## Transcript

[0:04] Speaker 1: This is the catch up on three things by the
[0:06] Speaker 1: Indian Express and I'm Ichha Sharma. Today is the 23rd
[0:13] Speaker 1: of September and here are today's headlines. Starting with major news,
[0:18] Speaker 1: the Election Commission of India's special intensive revision, which began
[0:22] Speaker 1: in Bihar in June 2025, an otherwise routine cleanup of
[0:26] Speaker 1: the rolls has struck more than 13 crore names of
[0:29] Speaker 1: the draft voter rolls in 30 states and union territories.
[0:33] Speaker 1: This has put the election commission at the centre of
[0:35] Speaker 1: intense public debate over its role in deciding who gets
[0:39] Speaker 1: to vote and who doesn't. An investigation by the Indian
[0:42] Speaker 1: Express reveals that questions were raised on these very issues
[0:45] Speaker 1: within the three-member election commission itself. Time and again, through
[0:49] Speaker 1: much of this same period, by two of the three
[0:52] Speaker 1: election commissioners, Sukbir Singh, Sandhu and Vivek.
[0:55] Speaker 2: Joshi, no less.
[1:01] Speaker 1: In other major news, while the BJP's 13-day Nasha Punjab
[1:05] Speaker 1: Yatra has entered its second leg, the anti-drug campaign is
[1:10] Speaker 1: fast becoming.
[1:11] Speaker 2: a multi-cornered political contest.
[1:13] Speaker 1: The Shiromani Akali Dal has launched a woman-led anti-drug campaign,
[1:18] Speaker 1: even as the ruling Aam Aadmi Party and the principal opposition, Congress,
[1:23] Speaker 1: have castigated the previous BJP-SAD alliance and the Centre's handling
[1:27] Speaker 1: of drug trafficking. The BJP's four simultaneous yatras, which began
[1:31] Speaker 1: on 18th September, will culminate in Jalandhar on 30th September. Meanwhile,
[1:41] Speaker 1: a day after the Indian Express reported that two of
[1:43] Speaker 1: its three members had objected on record at least 14
[1:46] Speaker 1: times in 10 months to decisions taken without their knowledge,
[1:49] Speaker 1: the Election Commission of India today acknowledged the notes but
[1:52] Speaker 1: described them as part of its decision-making process. It did
[1:55] Speaker 1: not respond to the specific concerns raised by the two commissioners.
[2:03] Speaker 1: In other major news, making national headlines, the father of
[2:05] Speaker 1: Nandan Yadav, one of the key accused in the alleged
[2:08] Speaker 1: molestation and harassment case, of two minor students in Jammu
[2:11] Speaker 1: has been arrested in connection with an alleged murder case,
[2:14] Speaker 1: police said. The accused, identified as Ganori Yadav, was arrested
[2:18] Speaker 1: in a case registered in connection with a double murder
[2:21] Speaker 1: dating back to 3rd April 2003. A total of 11
[2:25] Speaker 1: people were named in the case, of whom Ganori Yadav
[2:28] Speaker 1: was the only accused who had remained outside jail.
[2:31] Speaker 2: While the others were out on bail, a police source said.
[2:38] Speaker 1: And in the end, in news-making global headlines, the Global
[2:40] Speaker 1: South may be in the front row of global crisis,
[2:43] Speaker 1: but it is in the back row of decision-making.
[2:45] Speaker 2: External Affairs Minister S.J.
[2:47] Speaker 1: Shankar said in New York on Tuesday, calling for greater
[2:50] Speaker 1: solidarity among developing countries of the region. Speaking at the
[2:53] Speaker 1: high-level meeting of like-minded Global South countries and friends on
[2:57] Speaker 1: the sidelines of the 81st United States General Assembly, S.J.
[3:00] Speaker 1: Shankar said that the meeting is taking place at a
[3:02] Speaker 1: time of considerably global uncertainty. And with that, this was
[3:10] Speaker 1: all for today. This was the catch-up on three things
[3:12] Speaker 1: by the Indian Express.
