[0:03] Speaker 1: This is the catch-up on three things by the Indian
[0:06] Speaker 1: Express and I'm Ichhar Sharma. Today is the 14th of
[0:13] Speaker 1: September and here are today's headlines. Starting with major news,
[0:18] Speaker 1: rebel Trinamool Congress TMC MP Jagdesh Chandra Barma Basunia on
[0:24] Speaker 1: Monday claimed that 17 of the 20 MPs who had
[0:27] Speaker 1: broken away from the opposition party and joined the Nationalist
[0:31] Speaker 1: Citizens Party of India, were ready to join the BJP
[0:34] Speaker 1: either before or after the Durga Pooja festivities. The NCPI
[0:39] Speaker 1: is a little-known outfit that these rebel MPs joined in
[0:43] Speaker 1: June before declaring their support for the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance. However,
[0:48] Speaker 1: other NCPI MPs said they were unaware of any such
[0:53] Speaker 1: plan and Abu Teher Khan, who is one of the
[0:56] Speaker 1: three Muslim MPs in the group along with Yusuf Pathan,
[0:59] Speaker 1: And Kalilur Rehman said they would neither join the BJP
[1:03] Speaker 1: nor support the NDA. In other major news, Union Home
[1:11] Speaker 1: Minister Amit Shah said yesterday that the Uniform Civil Code
[1:15] Speaker 1: UCC will be implemented in all 21 BJP-NDA-ruled states before
[1:20] Speaker 1: the 2029 Lok Sabha elections. Shah said in Mumbai, quote,
[1:25] Speaker 1: We have introduced the Uniform Civil Code in several states,
[1:28] Speaker 1: And I'm confident that in the 21 BJP-NDA rule states,
[1:32] Speaker 1: we will introduce the UCC before 2029. He cited the
[1:35] Speaker 1: abolition of Triple Talag as part of the government's effort
[1:39] Speaker 1: to provide equal rights to Muslim women. Meanwhile, the Insolvency
[1:47] Speaker 1: and Bankruptcy Board of India has proposed four key amendments
[1:51] Speaker 1: in the insolvency resolution process of personal guarantors to corporate
[1:55] Speaker 1: debtors for providing safeguards to the banks or creditors in
[1:59] Speaker 1: line with the protections already available under corporate insolvency resolution
[2:03] Speaker 1: process of a company. The board has proposed that any
[2:07] Speaker 1: creditor who is a related party of the guarantor shall
[2:10] Speaker 1: not get any voting right in approving the resolution plan.
[2:13] Speaker 1: Under the CIRP, a related party of a debtor company
[2:17] Speaker 1: has no right of voting in the Committee of Creditors,
[2:19] Speaker 1: which takes decisions on the resolution plan. In personal guarantor resolutions,
[2:23] Speaker 1: an associate is barred from voting. However, the definition of
[2:26] Speaker 1: associate is much narrower compared to the definition of a
[2:29] Speaker 1: related party, said the IBBI. In other major news, two
[2:38] Speaker 1: and a half months after 46-year-old Ramshay Jaiswal was arrested
[2:42] Speaker 1: for allegedly murdering eight men from Karve village in Chattisgarh's
[2:46] Speaker 1: Baloda Bazaar district, a report by the Forensic Science Laboratory
[2:50] Speaker 1: has confirmed at least five victims were poisoned. Two reports
[2:53] Speaker 1: are pending while forensic samples could not be collected in
[2:56] Speaker 1: one case where the victim was cremated. The village with
[2:58] Speaker 1: a population of over a thousand people noticed something was
[3:01] Speaker 1: off when men started dying one after another. The only
[3:04] Speaker 1: common link, they had shared a drink with the accused
[3:07] Speaker 1: of consumed liquor provided by him. The first death took
[3:10] Speaker 1: place on 7th February this year when Badri Patel, A
[3:13] Speaker 1: mason was found dead at his home by his daughter.
[3:16] Speaker 1: The last to die on 14 May was Mehtru Sahu.
[3:21] Speaker 1: Unable to grasp what's happening, villagers had called priests and
[3:24] Speaker 1: conducted prayers, but Mehtru's death finally made them suspicious of
[3:28] Speaker 1: the accused, Jaiswal. And in the end, in news from
[3:35] Speaker 1: the capital, Vijay Kumar, the 32-year-old, was at his gym
[3:38] Speaker 1: in Delhi's Fatehpur Beri area today. When a man asked
[3:42] Speaker 1: him to step out, when he did, two men wearing
[3:45] Speaker 1: helmets open fired, pumping more than a dozen bullets into
[3:49] Speaker 1: him and killing him on the spot. His family alleged
[3:51] Speaker 1: that his killing was the result of the rivalry between
[3:54] Speaker 1: two families, Arun Lohia and Ratan Lohia, who shared the
[3:57] Speaker 1: same last name. Last year, both houses saw two murders
[4:00] Speaker 1: in the span of a few months, allegedly at each
[4:02] Speaker 1: other's hands. Ratan and Arun were intercepted by armed men
[4:06] Speaker 1: in broad daylight before they were shot dead. Ratan was
[4:09] Speaker 1: Vijay's uncle. And with that, this was all for today.
[4:15] Speaker 1: This was the catch up on three things by the
[4:17] Speaker 1: Indian Express.
