The headlines of the day by The Indian Express

## Transcript

[0:04] Speaker 1: This is the catch up on three things by the
[0:06] Speaker 1: Indian Express and I'm Ichha Sharma. Today is the 30th
[0:13] Speaker 1: of September and here are today's headlines. Starting with major news,
[0:18] Speaker 1: a passenger on board the Israel-bound FlyDubai flight that made
[0:22] Speaker 1: an emergency landing in Saudi Arabia described chaotic scenes to
[0:26] Speaker 1: Channel 12. They said, we heard screams on the plane,
[0:30] Speaker 1: then they opened the cockpit and we saw blood. and
[0:32] Speaker 1: someone had stabbed the pilot with a pocket knife, the
[0:36] Speaker 1: unnamed woman told the network via text message. It is
[0:40] Speaker 1: believed that a violent altercation developed between the two pilots. Meanwhile,
[0:49] Speaker 1: concertina wire atop tall walls that prevent outsiders peeking in,
[0:53] Speaker 1: CCTV cameras keeping a 360-degree watch and multiple old and
[0:58] Speaker 1: torn notices of the NIA. The house that Goldie Brar
[1:02] Speaker 1: once lived in stands out from its middle-class colony along
[1:06] Speaker 1: Kotkapura Road in Muktsar City. The neighbourhood with several retired
[1:11] Speaker 1: police officers is aware and wary. Police sources said they'd
[1:15] Speaker 1: suspect that Goldie keeps a watch on the house via
[1:17] Speaker 1: CCTV cameras from wherever he is. Where he is is
[1:21] Speaker 1: a million-dollar question. Literally. That's the award the FBI announced
[1:26] Speaker 1: this week for information leading to Goldie's arrest, having said,
[1:29] Speaker 1: just added his name to its list of 10 most
[1:33] Speaker 1: wanted fugitives. He's identified in the list as Satinder Jeet Singh,
[1:37] Speaker 1: the formal name that few here now remember Goldie by.
[1:45] Speaker 1: In other major news, Union Minister and Lok Jan Shakti
[1:48] Speaker 1: Party Ram Vila's chief, Chirag Paswan's increasingly pointed criticism of
[1:54] Speaker 1: the functioning of the BJP-led NDA government in Bihar over
[1:57] Speaker 1: law and order appears to be part of a larger
[2:00] Speaker 1: political strategy rather than just a series of off-the-cuff remarks.
[2:05] Speaker 1: The LJPRV, the sixth largest ally of the BJP-led NDA
[2:09] Speaker 1: at the centre, with five MPs, is seeking to remind
[2:12] Speaker 1: the BJP that allies are expected to support, not submit. Meanwhile,
[2:20] Speaker 1: the Bhagirath Pura water contamination incident that claimed the lives
[2:24] Speaker 1: of at least 35 persons was not the result of
[2:27] Speaker 1: a single act of negligence, but the cumulative consequence of
[2:31] Speaker 1: failures at different stages over several decades. The Judicial Commission
[2:35] Speaker 1: has concluded while giving a clean chit to two former
[2:38] Speaker 1: high-ranking Indore Municipal Corporation commissioners. The commission also red-flagged the
[2:43] Speaker 1: fact that crucial documents it had sought had disappeared, something
[2:47] Speaker 1: that required a separate investigation. And in the end, we
[2:54] Speaker 1: take a look at an Indian Express investigation that talks
[2:57] Speaker 1: about how a showpiece government initiative to make funds available
[3:02] Speaker 1: to emerging private companies engaged in deep tech research has
[3:06] Speaker 1: hit pause after the only agency selecting beneficiaries decided to
[3:10] Speaker 1: stop inviting applications because it hasn't received the money needed
[3:14] Speaker 1: to proceed after one round of funding. On Tuesday, the
[3:18] Speaker 1: Technology Department Board, a statutory body under the Department of
[3:22] Speaker 1: Science and Technology, issued a notice on its official website
[3:26] Speaker 1: informing that invitations for funding would be closed after this
[3:29] Speaker 1: month due to administrative reasons. And with that, this was
[3:36] Speaker 1: all for today. This was The Catch-Up on Three Things
[3:38] Speaker 1: by The Indian Express.
