[0:04] Speaker 1: I sure will. Good morning, everybody.
[0:13] Speaker 2: You are listening to The Voice. Come on, dig me now.
[0:16] Speaker 2: One and only, Steve Harvey. Got a radio show.
[0:19] Speaker 1: Man, oh, man, oh, man. How good is God to me?
[0:23] Speaker 2: And part of the mission and the reason that I
[0:26] Speaker 2: have a radio show is to become a sharer, more
[0:30] Speaker 2: and more of a sharer. You know, I used to
[0:34] Speaker 2: hear my mother say it to me all the time,
[0:36] Speaker 2: but God blesses you to become a blessing. And I
[0:39] Speaker 2: think the more you understand that about yourself, I think
[0:41] Speaker 2: the more blessings will flow your way. I think that
[0:45] Speaker 2: once you understand the principle that, you know, but it's
[0:50] Speaker 2: kind of tied together with some other scriptures, and I'm
[0:52] Speaker 2: not too knowledgeable about them, of course, as usual. but
[0:56] Speaker 2: I do know what I've heard, you know, and you know,
[1:00] Speaker 2: if you look at something simple as do unto others,
[1:02] Speaker 2: as you would have them do unto you, uh, wouldn't
[1:05] Speaker 2: you want somebody to help you if you needed help?
[1:09] Speaker 2: I just know how to get it down there to
[1:11] Speaker 2: where I've been able to understand it. If, if, if
[1:15] Speaker 2: there's a scripture similar that says do unto others as
[1:19] Speaker 2: you would have them do unto you, or that's, you know,
[1:24] Speaker 2: in a prayer, Would not you want somebody to help
[1:28] Speaker 2: you if you needed help? You've heard you reap what
[1:35] Speaker 2: you sow. Do you understand that if you sow discord,
[1:40] Speaker 2: that discord is going to come your way? That if
[1:44] Speaker 2: you hate, hate going to come your way. If you
[1:47] Speaker 2: blog nothing but negative comments about people, your life will
[1:51] Speaker 2: be filled with negativity. If all you do is talk
[1:55] Speaker 2: about people, then guess what? Somebody got to turn that
[1:58] Speaker 2: gun around and talk about you. See, it just stands
[2:03] Speaker 2: to reason. So what I've learned in my life and
[2:06] Speaker 2: through all the trials and tribulations that I've had is
[2:10] Speaker 2: to take those lessons and share them with people in
[2:14] Speaker 2: case you ain't heard it from somebody else. See, sometimes,
[2:18] Speaker 2: and the reason it seems like I'm redundant at times
[2:22] Speaker 2: is which I am. is because I'm always trying to
[2:25] Speaker 2: find a different way to say the same thing.
[2:28] Speaker 1: Because it's a funny thing, man. You got to hear
[2:31] Speaker 1: it a certain way for it to click with you.
[2:35] Speaker 1: How many times.
[2:36] Speaker 2: Have I heard a saying and then I heard it
[2:40] Speaker 2: a different way that it clicked with me?
[2:45] Speaker 1: You know, I've heard this saying right here.
[2:48] Speaker 2: Remember this now. Everybody's not happy for you. We've all
[2:52] Speaker 2: heard that, right? Everybody's not happy for you. Well, that's
[2:57] Speaker 2: very simple. I don't need no explanation. That simply means
[3:01] Speaker 2: of all the people, you know, or do not know
[3:04] Speaker 2: when something happens to you and you celebrating it, everybody
[3:08] Speaker 2: not going to join in on the celebration.
[3:11] Speaker 1: That's all that is. But then you take it one
[3:14] Speaker 1: step further.
[3:15] Speaker 2: My father used to say something to me all the time.
[3:17] Speaker 1: He said, son, everybody come with you. Can't go with you.
[3:20] Speaker 1: I didn't get that when I was 15. Everybody come
[3:23] Speaker 1: with you, can't go with you. He said, you're going
[3:25] Speaker 1: to lose some of these friends you got along the way.
[3:28] Speaker 1: But I don't care where you get in life. Know
[3:31] Speaker 1: this right here. Everybody can't go with you.
[3:34] Speaker 2: If you are constantly trying to improve yourself, you constantly
[3:38] Speaker 2: have to take assessment of the people around you. Because
[3:42] Speaker 2: if you are going to continue to go and continue
[3:44] Speaker 2: to grow, then guess what? You got to have people
[3:47] Speaker 2: that's on the go and willing to grow. Or else,
[3:51] Speaker 2: guess what? You're going to learn a valuable lesson. You know,
[3:56] Speaker 2: the late boxing promoter Butch Lewis. I was talking with
[4:00] Speaker 2: Butch Lewis one time. And man, what a good brother, man.
[4:04] Speaker 2: He said every successful man is doing what I call
[4:08] Speaker 2: he got rope work to do. He got rope work
[4:11] Speaker 2: to do. He got to put in work on rope.
[4:15] Speaker 2: And I'm sitting there listening to Butch Lewis and all
[4:18] Speaker 2: the money he had made and all the people's lives
[4:20] Speaker 2: he had changed and all of the moves he was making.
[4:22] Speaker 2: and his incredible skills as a negotiator on behalf of
[4:26] Speaker 2: some very, very wealthy people. He was just an amazing
[4:30] Speaker 2: man with no education, but he read everything. Butch Lewis
[4:33] Speaker 2: read all the papers, all the periodicals. That brother knew everything.
[4:38] Speaker 2: He said, you got to put in rope. And I
[4:41] Speaker 2: was sitting there listening. He said, here's the analogy, little brother.
[4:45] Speaker 2: He said, you are on rope. There's a thick rope
[4:49] Speaker 2: you have on no shirt. You have on some tattered clothes.
[4:53] Speaker 2: You have on no shoes. Your shorts is cut off
[4:56] Speaker 2: just below the knee and they tatted. You got dirt
[5:00] Speaker 2: on you and you're sweating. There's this huge, huge raw
[5:04] Speaker 2: rope over your shoulder. There's burn marks on all of
[5:07] Speaker 2: your shoulder connected to that rope is a wagon. That
[5:11] Speaker 2: wagon has all your weight on it, all your responsibilities,
[5:16] Speaker 2: all the people you're responsible for, all your children, your wife,
[5:21] Speaker 2: your family members, your employees, your coworkers, your friends. They
[5:27] Speaker 2: all on that wagon, man. They just sitting there. He's
[5:30] Speaker 2: saying what you got to do is you got to
[5:32] Speaker 2: pull that wagon up the hill. Now, only thing with
[5:35] Speaker 2: it is can't nobody help you pull your wagon. You
[5:39] Speaker 2: pull your wagon alone. He say now what you can
[5:42] Speaker 2: do along the way of pulling your wagon is you
[5:45] Speaker 2: can find yourself a good wife, a good woman. He
[5:49] Speaker 2: said that what that woman does is she get down
[5:51] Speaker 2: off the wagon. She find you while you pull it.
[5:54] Speaker 2: She put water on you while you pull it. She
[5:56] Speaker 2: put stuff in your mouth while you pull it. She
[5:59] Speaker 2: kick rocks out the way while you pull it, but she,
[6:02] Speaker 2: but she pulling for you, but she is equally as
[6:05] Speaker 2: important as you are on the pool of the rope.
[6:08] Speaker 2: He said, you hear me clearly now, young soldier. He said,
[6:10] Speaker 2: now I get this here. He says, people on your wagon.
[6:14] Speaker 2: that you're responsible for, but you want the people on
[6:17] Speaker 2: your wagon to help you get your wagon to the top.
[6:21] Speaker 2: So what you hope is that they got their foot
[6:23] Speaker 2: hanging over the side, pushing. They got one leg over
[6:27] Speaker 2: the back, or maybe both legs over the back, pushing.
[6:31] Speaker 2: They might have their butt on the wagon, but they
[6:33] Speaker 2: push you with both legs, their back facing your back.
[6:36] Speaker 2: Maybe some of them facing you, but one of them
[6:38] Speaker 2: got a left leg hanging over trying to push. And
[6:40] Speaker 2: you hope that all them people on the wagon you
[6:43] Speaker 2: pulling is back there at least trying to help the
[6:46] Speaker 2: wagon get to the top of the hill. Here goes
[6:48] Speaker 2: your problem, though. Everybody ain't pushing. Everybody ain't pulling. Everybody
[6:55] Speaker 2: ain't kicking rocks out the way. You got some people
[6:58] Speaker 2: on your wagon that's just laying on the wagon. Drinking lemonade,
[7:02] Speaker 2: looking at you, talking about how long it's taking you
[7:05] Speaker 2: to get your wagon up to the top, looking at you,
[7:08] Speaker 2: talking about why this wagon's so slow. Then when you
[7:11] Speaker 2: start picking up speed, they want you to pull harder,
[7:15] Speaker 2: you to pull faster, you to pull more. Then they
[7:18] Speaker 2: want you to throw what you done earned on the
[7:20] Speaker 2: way up the hill back down the wagon so they
[7:22] Speaker 2: can have more.
[7:23] Speaker 1: But guess what? They ain't helping you get more.
[7:25] Speaker 2: But they got a sense of entitlement that since you
[7:28] Speaker 2: got more, they should have more.
[7:30] Speaker 1: Everybody come with you, can't go with you.
[7:33] Speaker 2: Sometimes you got to kick the people off the wagon
[7:36] Speaker 2: that ain't pushing and pulling and say, hey, man, I'm sorry.
[7:39] Speaker 2: I thought I could do this with you and I
[7:41] Speaker 2: thought you was going with me. But it's clear to
[7:44] Speaker 2: me you ain't nothing but dead weight. And it ain't
[7:46] Speaker 2: my responsibility to carry dead weight anymore. I have carried
[7:50] Speaker 2: you as long as I have to carry you. You
[7:52] Speaker 2: are no longer my responsibility. I'm responsible for my family,
[7:56] Speaker 2: my wife, my children. I'm not responsible for you. You
[8:00] Speaker 2: got to get off my wagon because I'm a man
[8:02] Speaker 2: on rope. I'm on a mission, baby.
[8:03] Speaker 1: I'm pulling. You're listening to the Steve Harvey Morning Show.
