[0:00] Speaker 1: Come on, Steve.
[0:02] Speaker 2: Come on.
[0:03] Speaker 1: Do your thing, Big Daddy. Uh-huh.
[0:06] Speaker 2: I sure will. Good morning, everybody. You are listening to
[0:09] Speaker 2: The Voice. Come on, dig me now. One and only,
[0:13] Speaker 2: Steve Harvey. Got a radio show. Man, oh, man, oh, man.
[0:19] Speaker 1: Wow.
[0:20] Speaker 2: I think about all the things God has done for me.
[0:23] Speaker 2: It's overwhelming at times. And I want everybody to have
[0:27] Speaker 2: that feeling and to share in that. feeling of completion
[0:31] Speaker 2: and satisfaction. And the only reason I got this and
[0:34] Speaker 2: it's the thousandth time I've said it is because I
[0:38] Speaker 2: formed a relationship with my.
[0:39] Speaker 1: Creator, period. That's it. That's it. I can't tell you
[0:44] Speaker 1: anything else.
[0:45] Speaker 2: You know, I've always had a strong work ethic. My
[0:48] Speaker 2: father put that in me. My father's conversation with me
[0:52] Speaker 2: growing up was always constantly about work hard, don't be lazy,
[0:56] Speaker 2: be a man, do what you say you're going to do, yada, yada, yada, yada, yada. Man,
[1:01] Speaker 2: I was so tired of my father at times. I
[1:02] Speaker 2: was going, man, what is with this dude right here? Man,
[1:06] Speaker 2: every time we have a conversation, it's got to be
[1:08] Speaker 2: about work. It's got to be about, you know, man,
[1:12] Speaker 2: doing your best, trying hard, you know, working, being honest,
[1:16] Speaker 2: do what you say you're going to do. But that
[1:18] Speaker 2: was his mission. I can't tell you how much I
[1:22] Speaker 2: appreciate that now. I can't even put it into words
[1:26] Speaker 2: when I think about my old man and what he
[1:30] Speaker 2: was to me. And I just, man, I'm so grateful
[1:35] Speaker 2: for that balance I had in my life. And then
[1:37] Speaker 2: my father was a fighter. He fought on the weekends.
[1:42] Speaker 2: You know, my father used to come home with his
[1:46] Speaker 2: clothes tore off of him. He put a fresh shirt
[1:49] Speaker 2: on and he'd go back. My mom used to talk
[1:51] Speaker 2: about my father fighting all the time. Slick, why are
[1:53] Speaker 2: you always fighting? You know, a little bit of that
[1:57] Speaker 2: rubbed off on me, too. You know, that kind of
[1:59] Speaker 2: got into me, and I didn't understand that either. But
[2:02] Speaker 2: then on the same turn, my mother was a Sunday
[2:05] Speaker 2: school teacher for 40 years, so her conversation was never
[2:08] Speaker 2: about fighting or anything. It was all about love and
[2:11] Speaker 2: understanding and doing unto others as you would have them
[2:14] Speaker 2: do unto you. My mom was a Sunday school teacher,
[2:16] Speaker 2: so I I learned about faith. I had to go
[2:18] Speaker 2: to Sunday school, prayer meeting, Bible study, young people meeting,
[2:22] Speaker 2: choir rehearsal. You know, I was a church man so
[2:25] Speaker 2: much I was actually looking at there's got to be
[2:28] Speaker 2: an alternative to this. You know, I was a little
[2:32] Speaker 2: kid even. I was thinking at one point maybe I
[2:34] Speaker 2: ought to look in hell because there's got to be
[2:36] Speaker 2: something cooler than this going on every day. It got
[2:40] Speaker 2: that crazy for me. But the balance between those two
[2:43] Speaker 2: people created who I am today. And I want you
[2:47] Speaker 2: to understand that the things that you are in your
[2:50] Speaker 2: past have helped create who you are today if you
[2:54] Speaker 2: view it the right way. Everything that has happened to
[2:58] Speaker 2: you in your past has happened to you for a
[3:01] Speaker 2: reason and is usually for the good if you view
[3:06] Speaker 2: it that way. But if you, on the other hand,
[3:10] Speaker 2: are a type of person who can't move forward, because
[3:14] Speaker 2: you are allowing your past to stop you from having
[3:17] Speaker 2: your future, then you, my friend, are doing a disservice
[3:22] Speaker 2: to your life.
[3:24] Speaker 1: You are not honoring God's blessings.
[3:27] Speaker 2: You are not taking advantage of the gain, knowledge, wisdom,
[3:32] Speaker 2: and experience of your life. Example, if you are a
[3:38] Speaker 2: woman and you are always talking, about a former relationship,
[3:45] Speaker 2: what he did to me. If he had not did
[3:48] Speaker 2: this to me, I wouldn't be in this place today.
[3:53] Speaker 2: I thought I had a man. Now I ain't got
[3:56] Speaker 2: no man. Ah, la, la, la, la, la. If I,
[4:01] Speaker 2: you know, he came along and I was doing just swell.
[4:05] Speaker 2: He just came in and he just lied to me.
[4:08] Speaker 2: He lied to me. Now he did this to me.
[4:11] Speaker 2: Then he cheated. Then he left. All of that that
[4:15] Speaker 2: you're saying can very well be true. Have you thought
[4:21] Speaker 2: that maybe, maybe somewhere in God's infinite wisdom that he
[4:29] Speaker 2: knew that you had made a mistake in picking him anyway?
[4:35] Speaker 2: Maybe he knew you had made a mistake in saying
[4:38] Speaker 2: yes or I do to him anyway, or come on,
[4:42] Speaker 2: move in. And so what he did was based on
[4:49] Speaker 2: your decision now to say, yes, I do. Or come on,
[4:53] Speaker 2: let's move in together. That was your decision. So you
[4:55] Speaker 2: ain't go to him about this one. You made this
[4:58] Speaker 2: decision based on that decision and all the negative things
[5:03] Speaker 2: that started happening.
[5:05] Speaker 1: He allowed you to get away from it.
[5:08] Speaker 2: Now, how you got away from it is always not
[5:11] Speaker 2: the choice of ours. See, you stuck on the fact
[5:15] Speaker 2: that he left, that he walked out. But let me
[5:18] Speaker 2: share this with you. When he was there, how good
[5:21] Speaker 2: was he to you? How good was he for you? See,
[5:25] Speaker 2: you got to look at the blessing. The blessing is
[5:30] Speaker 2: now you are on your own. Now you walk in
[5:34] Speaker 2: your house. Ain't nobody in there with a disruptive spirit.
[5:37] Speaker 2: Now you go home. You could take your clothes off,
[5:40] Speaker 2: walk around like you want to. Now you go home.
[5:44] Speaker 2: You can sit down and look at TV or catch
[5:47] Speaker 2: your breath if you want to. Your kids don't have
[5:51] Speaker 2: to see y'all arguing all the time. Have you looked
[5:55] Speaker 2: at the blessing in it? But now if you're going
[5:58] Speaker 2: to keep looking at the negative, then guess what? Now
[6:01] Speaker 2: you can't move forward because you keep allowing your past
[6:07] Speaker 2: to keep you from moving forward. If God has bought
[6:11] Speaker 2: you through it, why don't you move.
[6:13] Speaker 1: On from it? Look, you got through it. He gone.
[6:17] Speaker 2: He ain't coming back. He got somebody else. So you
[6:21] Speaker 2: gonna sit there and just keep tripping cause he gone
[6:23] Speaker 2: and he got somebody else. Hey, pick yourself up. Thank
[6:28] Speaker 2: God for the blessing. It didn't feel like a blessing
[6:31] Speaker 2: while you was going through it. And all the pain
[6:34] Speaker 2: of him leaving and the divorce and all that messed
[6:37] Speaker 2: you up.
[6:37] Speaker 1: Got it.
[6:38] Speaker 2: When you get through with all of that, you ain't
[6:40] Speaker 2: the first one been left. You ain't the first one
[6:43] Speaker 2: been divorced. You ain't the first one been in a
[6:45] Speaker 2: bad relationship.
[6:47] Speaker 1: Pick yourself.
[6:47] Speaker 2: Yourself up. Thank God for the blessing and move forward
[6:52] Speaker 2: in your life. Because maybe when you quit complaining, maybe
[6:57] Speaker 2: you'll find out that God has something in store for
[7:00] Speaker 2: you that he wants you to have, but he can't
[7:03] Speaker 2: give it to you if you ain't grateful. So God
[7:06] Speaker 2: gives you a blessing, but because you don't see it
[7:09] Speaker 2: as a blessing, you ain't grateful for it. Now, guess what?
[7:13] Speaker 2: You steady asking God to do something for you, but
[7:15] Speaker 2: you ain't thanking him for what he's done for you,
[7:18] Speaker 2: but you steady wanting him to do more.
[7:21] Speaker 1: How does that work? How does that work, man, that
[7:24] Speaker 1: he should keep.
[7:25] Speaker 2: On giving you things when you ain't even working with
[7:28] Speaker 2: the stuff he didn't gave you.
[7:31] Speaker 1: And I don't know.
[7:31] Speaker 2: And I'm just, I'm just using that one example that
[7:34] Speaker 2: could go for me and to vice versa and so
[7:37] Speaker 2: on and so forth. I'm just using that as an example. Now,
[7:40] Speaker 2: why I laid on that one so long, You have.
[7:43] Speaker 1: To take that up with God. That's all.
[7:45] Speaker 2: He ain't pointing fingers at nobody or nothing. Because I've
[7:48] Speaker 2: been guilty on both sides of the coin.
[7:51] Speaker 1: Who am I? But I'm just sharing with you what
[7:53] Speaker 1: I had to do.
[7:54] Speaker 2: I had to learn to stop allowing my past to
[7:58] Speaker 2: interfere with my future.
