[0:00] Speaker 1: Come on. Do your thing, Big Daddy. Uh-huh.
[0:03] Speaker 2: I sure will. Good morning, everybody. Y'all listening to The Voice. Oh,
[0:09] Speaker 2: come on now, dig me. If you will, one and
[0:12] Speaker 2: only Steve Harvey.
[0:13] Speaker 1: Got a radio show.
[0:15] Speaker 2: You know, one of the things about being successful, and
[0:19] Speaker 2: I was sharing this just the other day with a
[0:23] Speaker 2: young man, and he asked me, he said, hey, man,
[0:27] Speaker 2: I just don't see how You get up that early
[0:30] Speaker 2: in the morning. I just don't see how, man, it
[0:34] Speaker 2: would kill me to get up this early in the morning. Well,
[0:37] Speaker 2: I sat there and I'm listening to it because it's
[0:39] Speaker 2: just a thousand times I've heard it, you know. And
[0:42] Speaker 2: my life is, you know, not too different from a
[0:45] Speaker 2: lot of people's lives. There's a lot of people out
[0:47] Speaker 2: there that rise early. And I just sit there, man,
[0:51] Speaker 2: because I mean, first of all, I'm grateful to be
[0:54] Speaker 2: able to have a job. I'm so grateful to be
[0:56] Speaker 2: able to do one. And several that I happen to
[0:59] Speaker 2: enjoy doing. I mean, you know, it's work. And it's
[1:02] Speaker 2: difficult at times. But, I mean, you know, I wanted this.
[1:05] Speaker 2: You know, you can't ask God for nothing. He didn't
[1:08] Speaker 2: give it to you. You didn't be mad that you
[1:09] Speaker 2: got it. It don't make no sense. The problem with
[1:12] Speaker 2: asking God for stuff is a lot of times we
[1:15] Speaker 2: asking for stuff, we don't really know what all it encompasses,
[1:18] Speaker 2: what all it really is. And I ask for this. Now,
[1:21] Speaker 2: along the way, I've gotten far more than I asked for.
[1:24] Speaker 2: I want you to do understand that. And, you know,
[1:28] Speaker 2: that's his grace at work in my life. But I
[1:31] Speaker 2: get up early and I go to work because I
[1:33] Speaker 2: do understand something that it.
[1:35] Speaker 1: Is not walking up to you.
[1:37] Speaker 2: Nobody walks up to people normally and just hand them
[1:40] Speaker 2: checks all the time and enough checks to sustain your
[1:44] Speaker 2: life and not only sustain it, but to have a
[1:46] Speaker 2: life that where you could enjoy and do some of
[1:49] Speaker 2: the things you want to do. I don't know the
[1:51] Speaker 2: person that walks out, hands out that money just to
[1:54] Speaker 2: be doing it. And then with a lifestyle where you can,
[1:58] Speaker 2: you know, give your kids a Christmas, you know, take
[2:01] Speaker 2: your family on vacation, you know, a year, once a year.
[2:04] Speaker 2: I don't know nobody passing out that kind of money.
[2:05] Speaker 2: So I get up early in the morning and I
[2:07] Speaker 2: get at it. I was taught to get up early
[2:10] Speaker 2: in the morning by my father because my father says,
[2:14] Speaker 2: ain't nothing going to come to you while you're laying there.
[2:17] Speaker 1: And you know what?
[2:18] Speaker 2: It's just true, man. It's just a little common sense.
[2:22] Speaker 2: Old people are smart, man. They've been around a long time.
[2:24] Speaker 2: You know some old fools out there, but you don't
[2:26] Speaker 2: have to deal with them. But old people are pretty smart, man.
[2:30] Speaker 2: They've learned a lot along the way. And waking up
[2:32] Speaker 2: early and getting out of it is one of them things.
[2:34] Speaker 2: And I ask everybody, man, to think about this scenario
[2:37] Speaker 2: of your life. If a day has 24 hours in it,
[2:41] Speaker 2: And let's just say you choose to sleep eight of
[2:44] Speaker 2: those hours because they tell you you need eight hours sleep.
[2:49] Speaker 2: So you sleep eight hours. That's a third of your
[2:52] Speaker 2: life asleep already. Just a third of your life is
[2:57] Speaker 2: spent asleep. If you go do eight hours a day. Now,
[3:01] Speaker 2: let's say you have a job that you work eight hours.
[3:04] Speaker 2: It is not the job of your dreams. It's not
[3:06] Speaker 2: your dream career, your dream profession. It's just the one
[3:09] Speaker 2: you took, like all of us, to get it started.
[3:12] Speaker 2: And then, like all of us, some of us end
[3:14] Speaker 2: up having to stay there because we've created these bills
[3:17] Speaker 2: because we check to check so we can't leave it
[3:19] Speaker 2: because we'll lose what we've worked for. So let's just
[3:22] Speaker 2: say you got a job that you go to work
[3:24] Speaker 2: to for eight hours. That's another third of your life.
[3:28] Speaker 2: That's two thirds of your life. Feel how you want
[3:31] Speaker 2: to feel about your two thirds. Well, I like sleep.
[3:33] Speaker 1: OK, cool. There's a scripture about that, too.
[3:35] Speaker 2: But now you spent two thirds of your life, one
[3:38] Speaker 2: on a job you don't care for if you're not
[3:39] Speaker 2: happy there or one that just pays the bills and
[3:42] Speaker 2: it's not your dream job or career.
[3:44] Speaker 1: Another third of your life is sleep. Oh, now let's
[3:46] Speaker 1: hold on.
[3:46] Speaker 2: Let's talk about the one hour of preparation that it
[3:49] Speaker 2: may take to get to the job. That's 17 hours.
[3:53] Speaker 2: Let's say your drive time. Let's say getting to your
[3:56] Speaker 2: job for the average person. It's anywhere between 30 to
[4:00] Speaker 2: an hour. That's an average of what it takes to
[4:03] Speaker 2: average person. Now, some people out there hustling way harder
[4:05] Speaker 2: than that. But let's just say your average is an
[4:07] Speaker 2: hour getting to work. You add another hour to that
[4:11] Speaker 2: going to work. You've now spent 18 hours out of
[4:16] Speaker 2: the 24 doing something different. That's either nonproductive, you're not
[4:21] Speaker 2: happy with, you're not pleased about, it's not your dream job,
[4:24] Speaker 2: it's not your dream profession, and the rest of the
[4:26] Speaker 2: time you sleep 18 hours. Now, you got to come
[4:29] Speaker 2: from the job. So let's just say it's another hour
[4:31] Speaker 2: to get back home. That's 19 hours. 19 hours out
[4:34] Speaker 2: of a 24-hour day. You now have five hours left
[4:37] Speaker 2: in your day. Oh, you watch TV two hours a day? Okay,
[4:41] Speaker 2: excuse me. Now you put two hours of TV on there.
[4:45] Speaker 2: You've just spent 21. You now have three hours left.
[4:48] Speaker 2: In the day to do something super productive for the
[4:53] Speaker 2: development of yourself and the future of your family and
[4:57] Speaker 2: your future as a person and what you can provide
[5:00] Speaker 2: for your family.
[5:01] Speaker 1: Oh, I need to chill. I need to smoke one.
[5:06] Speaker 2: Oh, I need some time at happy hour. Seem like
[5:10] Speaker 2: all I do is drive to work and go to work.
[5:13] Speaker 2: I'm gonna go out with the fellas, drink one. Okay,
[5:17] Speaker 2: let's say you spend two hours at happy hour. Nobody
[5:20] Speaker 2: go to a happy hour just for an hour. Let's
[5:22] Speaker 2: say you spend two hours at happy hour smoking or
[5:25] Speaker 2: some video games. Let's throw that in there. Two hours
[5:27] Speaker 2: of smoking, chilling, video games. That's 23 hours of your
[5:31] Speaker 2: day gone. Don't you see how your day slips away
[5:34] Speaker 2: from you? So why would you get up early? You
[5:38] Speaker 2: get up early to get a jump. You get up
[5:41] Speaker 2: early to produce, to plan, to become productive people. You
[5:46] Speaker 2: get up early in the morning to care about every
[5:48] Speaker 2: single minute of your day. You wake up early in
[5:51] Speaker 2: the morning because you have a plan, a mission. You
[5:55] Speaker 2: have something you want to accomplish. The earlier you get up,
[5:58] Speaker 2: the more time you have just for you to devote
[6:00] Speaker 2: to your plan. You map it out. You make some sense,
[6:03] Speaker 2: some emails, whatever it is you need to do to
[6:06] Speaker 2: get your dream on the way. Then you go get ready.
[6:10] Speaker 2: Then you get in your car and go to work.
[6:12] Speaker 2: Then you go to your job. But on your job,
[6:14] Speaker 2: instead of sitting at your lunch break, messing around with
[6:17] Speaker 2: a bunch of people laughing and talking about nothing, playing dominoes.
[6:21] Speaker 2: Why don't you take that hour to do some more
[6:22] Speaker 2: research to send out some more e-mails? to put some
[6:26] Speaker 2: feelers out there to see what can get you in
[6:28] Speaker 2: the place that you want to be. Then when you
[6:31] Speaker 2: get off, instead of driving straight home, why don't you
[6:34] Speaker 2: go somewhere in a meeting, you know, take in a
[6:37] Speaker 2: session with some people in a positive mental state, group
[6:39] Speaker 2: of people that get together and network for business, not
[6:42] Speaker 2: drink at happy hour. I said network for business. So
[6:46] Speaker 2: after you've done that eight that you don't really care
[6:48] Speaker 2: for on a job, you spend some more time pursuing,
[6:51] Speaker 2: looking into, researching, working towards, sending out some more applications,
[6:57] Speaker 2: putting in some more time to build your new app,
[7:00] Speaker 2: discussing some more networking ideas. Okay, that's your happy hour.
[7:04] Speaker 2: Then when you go home, instead of chilling, drinking one,
[7:07] Speaker 2: having a cold one, smoking one, playing a video game,
[7:11] Speaker 2: why don't you take that two hours and devote that
[7:14] Speaker 2: to that business idea you got, to that family that
[7:17] Speaker 2: you talk about you really want.
[7:19] Speaker 1: Spend some time with your children. Put something into them.
[7:22] Speaker 2: Do something, man, with all these precious hours that God
[7:26] Speaker 2: gives all of us in the course of a day.
[7:28] Speaker 1: Take advantage of every minute of that.
[7:31] Speaker 2: No human being has more than 24 hours a day,
[7:34] Speaker 2: including myself. But if you care about every single minute
[7:39] Speaker 2: of that day, you'll be amazed at how much you
[7:42] Speaker 2: could get accomplished in a 24 hour day. But you
[7:46] Speaker 2: can't get none of that happening because you sleep and
[7:49] Speaker 2: you chill it. And you smoking.
[7:52] Speaker 1: Okay.
[7:53] Speaker 2: What has that done for you, your family, or your future?
[7:57] Speaker 2: Care about every minute of your day.
[7:59] Speaker 1: You're listening to the Steve Harvey Morning Show.
