[0:00] Speaker 1: Come on, I sure will. Good morning, everybody. You're listening
[0:07] Speaker 1: to The Voice. Come on, dig me now. One and
[0:11] Speaker 1: only Steve Harvey got a radio show today. I want
[0:17] Speaker 1: to just share something with you along your way. to
[0:25] Speaker 1: wherever it is you're trying to get to. You know,
[0:28] Speaker 1: everybody has a different definition for success. And I'm not
[0:33] Speaker 1: here to tell you what yours should be. I mean,
[0:34] Speaker 1: please pursue whatever you think success is. Aim as high
[0:39] Speaker 1: as you can, though. That's for sure. My father used
[0:44] Speaker 1: to say all the time, I'm sure you all have
[0:46] Speaker 1: heard it in different variations, but he used to always say,
[0:50] Speaker 1: aim for the moon. Just in case you miss, you'll
[0:52] Speaker 1: still be amongst the stars. Just say that to me
[0:55] Speaker 1: all the time. So that always was in me to
[0:59] Speaker 1: aim high. Now, he wasn't saying aim with the intent
[1:04] Speaker 1: to miss. He was just saying aim. In case you miss,
[1:09] Speaker 1: you'll still be amongst the stars if you aim for
[1:12] Speaker 1: the moon. But if you just aim for that first
[1:15] Speaker 1: flow window and you miss it, you know, usually run
[1:20] Speaker 1: into some type of wall and nothing happens. You slither down.
[1:24] Speaker 1: You know, in my book, Act Like a Lady, Think
[1:26] Speaker 1: Like a Man, I told people that men love three ways.
[1:29] Speaker 1: They profess, they provide, they protect. And that's the core
[1:33] Speaker 1: essence of a man's love. Well, there's some other P's
[1:37] Speaker 1: in life, too. The number one thing you have to
[1:41] Speaker 1: understand about trying to be successful. And I guess I
[1:47] Speaker 1: call this the four P's. I may come up with
[1:49] Speaker 1: five along the way. I don't know. I'm just talking
[1:52] Speaker 1: as it's given to me. So. I'm going to start
[1:55] Speaker 1: by saying that these are the four P's of success
[2:00] Speaker 1: that you have to get ready for. Number one is pressure.
[2:05] Speaker 1: A lot of it is applied by the circumstance of
[2:08] Speaker 1: what you're trying to go for and what you're trying
[2:10] Speaker 1: to do. But a lot of it also is self-imposed pressure.
[2:17] Speaker 1: It's what you put on yourself to make it. It's
[2:21] Speaker 1: a sense of urgency. It's a sense of necessity, but
[2:29] Speaker 1: pressure is the first thing I want you to be
[2:31] Speaker 1: ready for. And pressure comes in a lot of different forms,
[2:35] Speaker 1: but it's going to be pressured as an old saying
[2:37] Speaker 1: that pressure bust a pipe. See, that's why most people
[2:40] Speaker 1: turn around because of the pressure of trying to be successful.
[2:44] Speaker 1: I want you to get it in your mind that
[2:47] Speaker 1: is going to be a pressurized situation on your rise
[2:51] Speaker 1: to the top. Pressure. But understand that that is what
[2:56] Speaker 1: it is, is not going to change. That's it. Prepare yourself.
[3:01] Speaker 1: Get ready for there to be pressure. The second thing
[3:07] Speaker 1: I want you to understand is when you receive this pressure,
[3:10] Speaker 1: you have to persist. You got to stay at it.
[3:15] Speaker 1: You got to develop a doggedness. There's a song out.
[3:25] Speaker 1: It says, why must I feel like that? Why must
[3:29] Speaker 1: I chase the cat? Nothing but the dog in me.
[3:34] Speaker 1: That's a funny line in that song. Because really, I
[3:38] Speaker 1: was thinking about it one day. I was humming it.
[3:41] Speaker 1: And it occurred to me. It said, why must I
[3:45] Speaker 1: feel like that? Why must I chase the cat? Nothing
[3:49] Speaker 1: but the dog in me. And, you know, now you
[3:53] Speaker 1: could take it in the literal sense that cat chases
[3:56] Speaker 1: the dog because it's innately, it's in his spirit that
[4:00] Speaker 1: cats and dogs are a lot of times enemies. Now
[4:03] Speaker 1: people have pets and have proven that if you show
[4:06] Speaker 1: love on both sides, they can exist. And that happens too.
[4:09] Speaker 1: But naturally, innately, when your cat goes by a dog,
[4:13] Speaker 1: your dog don't recognize him. There's some barking going on.
[4:17] Speaker 1: I'm talking about just walking through the neighborhood or something. So,
[4:20] Speaker 1: but the reason that this dog, is so persistent towards
[4:26] Speaker 1: this cat. It just causes in him. It's innately in him.
[4:33] Speaker 1: And what I'm saying to you, just using that as
[4:36] Speaker 1: an analogy, is that you got to be persistent in
[4:44] Speaker 1: that you got to develop some dog in you now
[4:47] Speaker 1: because pressure takes some fighting back. See, if you don't
[4:51] Speaker 1: fight back against pressure, pressure busts the pipe. So what
[4:54] Speaker 1: you think it'll do to you? Pressure crack walls. Pressure
[4:58] Speaker 1: cause explosions. So if you don't fight back to hold
[5:02] Speaker 1: it in, you understand pressure does most people in. The
[5:07] Speaker 1: simple thing called pressure. The weight of what it feels
[5:12] Speaker 1: like to want to be successful every single day over
[5:15] Speaker 1: and over and over and over and over. It's just
[5:18] Speaker 1: too much pressure. people crack. You got to persist. You
[5:23] Speaker 1: have to persist. The thought of giving up can come,
[5:28] Speaker 1: but you got to get it out. You got to persist.
[5:32] Speaker 1: The next thing I want you to think about is
[5:37] Speaker 1: another something that I've been thinking about for years and
[5:40] Speaker 1: learned for years. It's called perseverance. To persist means to
[5:47] Speaker 1: to insist. The key word in persist is insist. You
[5:53] Speaker 1: must insist that this is going to happen. Now, the
[5:56] Speaker 1: persist I'm assuming means it's a proaction. It's some type
[6:00] Speaker 1: of proaction that you go towards it to make it persist.
[6:05] Speaker 1: You've got to be persistent. You've got to be constantly
[6:08] Speaker 1: at it. Insisting that it happens, you've got to be
[6:10] Speaker 1: constantly at it. But the next thing I want you
[6:13] Speaker 1: to remember is perseverance. Perseverance. Perseverance is important. Perseverance means
[6:18] Speaker 1: that when you've done your best, when you've persisted, when
[6:24] Speaker 1: you're fighting back against the pressure, perseverance simply means I'm
[6:29] Speaker 1: going to hang in here. If a crack come in
[6:33] Speaker 1: the pipe, I'm going to hang in there. If the
[6:36] Speaker 1: pipe busts, I'm going to keep going. If I got
[6:40] Speaker 1: to put duct tape, mud, whatever I got to put
[6:44] Speaker 1: on this thing, man, I'm going to use perseverance. I'm
[6:48] Speaker 1: going to stay with it no matter what. So we're
[6:52] Speaker 1: looking at the three things again. You got to understand
[6:56] Speaker 1: that it's going to be pressure, that you're going to
[6:58] Speaker 1: have to persist. Key word in persistence, insist. You have
[7:03] Speaker 1: to insist that no matter what the pressure is, I'm
[7:05] Speaker 1: going to stay with it. But the perseverance, if it
[7:08] Speaker 1: goes wrong, man, you got to get in there and
[7:12] Speaker 1: keep fighting. But then, Lord, have mercy. Nothing helps you
[7:17] Speaker 1: handle the three P's better than the fourth P. You
[7:20] Speaker 1: got to pray. You got to use prayer. You got
[7:24] Speaker 1: to talk to God. You got to use faith. You
[7:28] Speaker 1: got to have some conferences with him late at night,
[7:31] Speaker 1: early in the morning, in the middle of the afternoon,
[7:34] Speaker 1: when you're on the train, when you're driving. You got
[7:36] Speaker 1: to talk to God, man. You got to get yourself
[7:39] Speaker 1: some help along the way. Nothing is bigger than prayer.
[7:43] Speaker 1: There is nothing bigger than prayer. Prayer will help you
[7:46] Speaker 1: overcome the pressure. Prayer will help you stay persistent. And
[7:50] Speaker 1: Lord have mercy. Prayer will help you persevere. Them is
[7:53] Speaker 1: the four P's. God gave that to me. I'm passing
[7:58] Speaker 1: it on. You're listening to the Steve Harvey Morning Show.
