[0:00] Speaker 1: All right, guys, here we are last break of the day.
[0:02] Speaker 1: Thank you to our Steve Harvey Nation for always riding
[0:06] Speaker 1: with us. We appreciate you so much. We love you, Steve.
[0:10] Speaker 2: I know my close remarks today is because I want
[0:16] Speaker 2: to say something to public figures, I being one of them,
[0:21] Speaker 2: you all being one of them, and I just want
[0:24] Speaker 2: to remind you of some things that we have to
[0:28] Speaker 2: constantly be aware of. And because of social media, everybody
[0:33] Speaker 2: has to be aware. Now. It used to just be
[0:37] Speaker 2: for the famous, but no, because of social media, because
[0:41] Speaker 2: you can post anything you want and you can comment
[0:45] Speaker 2: on any post you want. When you're famous and you're
[0:49] Speaker 2: in the public eye and you make a public comment
[0:53] Speaker 2: or statement, you have to be ready for the scrutiny,
[0:58] Speaker 2: the ridicule, the critics, anything you got. You gotta expect
[1:03] Speaker 2: it all because you are a public figure and you
[1:06] Speaker 2: made the statements publicly. Now, when you make a mistake publicly,
[1:13] Speaker 2: as I have, and I have made some major mistakes
[1:17] Speaker 2: in my life, you all have bore witness to a
[1:20] Speaker 2: lot of them. I mean, man, and social media don't
[1:25] Speaker 2: let you forget. They don't let you forget every now
[1:28] Speaker 2: and then you could be doing something else, and they're there.
[1:30] Speaker 2: Are you think we forgot about when you said the
[1:32] Speaker 2: wrong name and miss Universe with your stupid blankety blank. No,
[1:38] Speaker 2: I'm not a stupid person, So that goes in one
[1:42] Speaker 2: ear and out the next. I made a mistake. It
[1:44] Speaker 2: is what it is. I explained it to the young
[1:47] Speaker 2: lady that I made a mistake with Miss Columbia. I
[1:50] Speaker 2: apologized to her father and I and I didn't do
[1:53] Speaker 2: anything publicly until I said it to her. I made
[1:58] Speaker 2: a lot of mistakes. I remember one time this gentleman
[2:01] Speaker 2: called in and he was berating me about something. We
[2:03] Speaker 2: got into an argument back and forth, and then he
[2:06] Speaker 2: said he was from Flint, and then I made I'm
[2:09] Speaker 2: just messing with him, So I made something about the
[2:11] Speaker 2: water he drinking. Well, they ate me alive for that,
[2:15] Speaker 2: and I took it. But I came on the radio
[2:17] Speaker 2: and I apologized because I made a mistake and I
[2:21] Speaker 2: shouldn't have said it that way because a lot of
[2:23] Speaker 2: people in Flint were suffering. So I made a mistake,
[2:26] Speaker 2: so I had to apologize. And then after that I
[2:29] Speaker 2: sent a bunch of water to Flint to try to
[2:32] Speaker 2: make good. Because I'm not a mean spirited person. I
[2:35] Speaker 2: just I should have said it. But when you are
[2:38] Speaker 2: a public figure and you make a mistake, you got
[2:41] Speaker 2: to take ownership. You have to take ownership because look, man,
[2:46] Speaker 2: the public we are especially blacks, because once again we
[2:51] Speaker 2: are the group of people who are responsible for the
[2:55] Speaker 2: actions of one another. We are held to a different
[2:59] Speaker 2: code of ethic, a different set of morals, a different
[3:02] Speaker 2: set of expectations by one another. Because so very few
[3:05] Speaker 2: of us slip through the cracks to reach a level
[3:08] Speaker 2: of prominence that those that help support us get there,
[3:14] Speaker 2: they feel a part of the journey, or they feel
[3:16] Speaker 2: like you're on something. Now. Is it always fair? No,
[3:18] Speaker 2: it's not, but it is what it is. And you know,
[3:22] Speaker 2: of late, we've watched a lot of famous people say
[3:25] Speaker 2: some stuff and I feel for these people because they
[3:31] Speaker 2: don't understand. But you have to take accountability. You know,
[3:36] Speaker 2: my brother Stephen a smith man. You know the difficulty
[3:43] Speaker 2: in watching him try to I don't even know if
[3:48] Speaker 2: he's trying to fix it, but to explain it. My
[3:53] Speaker 2: best advice to anybody is you got to take accountability.
[3:57] Speaker 2: My approach to this whole thing would have just been
[3:59] Speaker 2: to say, hey, you know what, I messed up? You're right.
[4:02] Speaker 2: I made some mistakes. I owe somebody an apology. I
[4:06] Speaker 2: would have started with them, sisters. I would have just
[4:09] Speaker 2: made it and just say, look, man, y'all forgive me.
[4:11] Speaker 2: Charge it to my head, not to my heart. I
[4:14] Speaker 2: blurted it out, I was out of line. Blah blah
[4:16] Speaker 2: blah blah blah, and then and then begin to work
[4:19] Speaker 2: your way back. But I don't know that when you
[4:24] Speaker 2: make statements and uh, deal hugely, who is my dear brother?
[4:29] Speaker 2: Of course deal hugly said, what black person has to
[4:34] Speaker 2: explain that they were raised in a black family? You
[4:39] Speaker 2: know what? That's true? And Shirley says something off the
[4:43] Speaker 2: air we were talking that was so funny and she
[4:47] Speaker 2: was so serious, because Shirley said she gets tired of
[4:51] Speaker 2: being disparaged as a black woman. Carl has said the
[4:54] Speaker 2: same thing. She gets tired of seeing black women get
[4:58] Speaker 2: raked over the colds, and then if it's from a
[5:02] Speaker 2: black man, it hurts even more because man, black women
[5:06] Speaker 2: do so much to hold it together for so many
[5:10] Speaker 2: people behind the scenes. And Shirley says something, when you
[5:15] Speaker 2: say you were raised bout black women, we all got mothers.
[5:21] Speaker 2: Shirley said, pimps got mamas, and that was so funny
[5:27] Speaker 2: because pimps got mamas, but they still drug dealers got mamas,
[5:32] Speaker 2: but they still deal drugs. My mother was a save
[5:36] Speaker 2: born again Christian Holy ghost Field five baptized Pentecostal Sunday
[5:42] Speaker 2: school teacher. You know how much I did counter to
[5:47] Speaker 2: everything she taught me. I counted everything she told me.
[5:53] Speaker 2: But you gotta take accountability, and we gotta do better
[5:56] Speaker 2: by these sisters out here. Man, we as black men,
[6:00] Speaker 2: have an obligation to stand up and uphold our sisters
[6:05] Speaker 2: that are in these high positions. You can't be a
[6:07] Speaker 2: man in another high position. And then five these sisters
[6:11] Speaker 2: that's got high positions and you showk file at that. No, really,
[6:15] Speaker 2: they don't deserve it. They deserve better. We have to
[6:19] Speaker 2: do more except that own up to that part. And
[6:23] Speaker 2: let's get on with it now. If you ain't gonna
[6:25] Speaker 2: do that, good luck to you. Good luck to you.
[6:28] Speaker 2: It's gonna be a rough ride back. Well, y'all have
[6:31] Speaker 2: a great day today. Talk to God. He hats a
[6:34] Speaker 2: little love to hear from him. Just talking to me
[6:36] Speaker 2: ain't gonna work.
[6:36] Speaker 1: Out for you.
