[0:00] Speaker 1: Come on. Uh-huh. I sure will. Good morning, everybody. You
[0:07] Speaker 1: are listening to The Voice. Come on now. Dig me.
[0:11] Speaker 2: One and only Steve Harvey. Man, got a radio show.
[0:15] Speaker 2: What God doing, y'all? Huh?
[0:17] Speaker 1: What he doing? What he doing in your life? He
[0:19] Speaker 1: doing something. He moving. He working. Don't lose your patience, though. See,
[0:24] Speaker 1: I did that before. Don't lose your patience.
[0:28] Speaker 2: Don't get so sick of waiting that you take matters
[0:32] Speaker 2: into your own hands. Don't do that. Boy, you're blowing it.
[0:37] Speaker 2: Listen to me. You're listening to somebody who's done it
[0:40] Speaker 2: that way. I had a dream. I had a vision.
[0:44] Speaker 2: I had some hope. I had some faith. I had
[0:46] Speaker 2: some aspirations. But I got a little impatient waiting on it.
[0:51] Speaker 2: So I tried a couple other things.
[0:52] Speaker 1: Move it along.
[0:54] Speaker 2: But I can't tell you how I messed it up.
[0:56] Speaker 2: Then I messed it up then because God gave me
[0:58] Speaker 2: the power of decision. What I had to do was
[1:00] Speaker 2: then after I took matters into my own hand, messed
[1:04] Speaker 2: it up. Now, guess what? He still got something for me.
[1:08] Speaker 2: But now I got to fix all the mistakes. Now
[1:10] Speaker 2: I got to straighten them out. I got to I
[1:12] Speaker 2: got to suffer some consequences. I got to pay for
[1:15] Speaker 2: my transgressions, all of that.
[1:17] Speaker 1: All of that.
[1:18] Speaker 2: It's got to go down. You can't do something wrong
[1:22] Speaker 2: and not pay for it. You call it karma, call
[1:26] Speaker 2: it whatever you want to call it. Every action has
[1:29] Speaker 2: an equal and opposite reaction.
[1:31] Speaker 1: Every action.
[1:34] Speaker 2: If it just stays sunny all the time, you might
[1:36] Speaker 2: think it's cool, but there's going to be a reaction
[1:38] Speaker 2: to it.
[1:39] Speaker 1: Ain't no dark, ain't no shade, ain't no break, ain't
[1:42] Speaker 1: no rain. Going to be hard if it's just sunny
[1:45] Speaker 1: all the time. Vice versa.
[1:47] Speaker 2: So you need you need the opposite. You need the
[1:51] Speaker 2: darkness so you can get your break from that sun.
[1:54] Speaker 2: You need the rain so you can nourish the roots.
[1:57] Speaker 2: So that sun, it can soak up the sun and
[2:00] Speaker 2: get the benefit of the sun. If you don't get
[2:02] Speaker 2: the opposite, you got a problem, man. And it happens
[2:05] Speaker 2: throughout nature. It happens throughout your life. Don't think that
[2:09] Speaker 2: you can do wrong and not have to pay for that.
[2:14] Speaker 2: What you think this is, man? We think, man, because
[2:17] Speaker 2: we made a decision that we think is best for us.
[2:20] Speaker 2: And no matter how it affect nobody else, we got
[2:22] Speaker 2: the right to make that call.
[2:24] Speaker 1: No, you don't.
[2:25] Speaker 2: Whoever is telling you that whoever's misguiding you into the
[2:28] Speaker 2: gang life, telling you, yeah, man, you need to be
[2:31] Speaker 2: this way to be down with us. I tell you what,
[2:33] Speaker 2: get yourself stuck on Chuck with that gang. See how
[2:35] Speaker 2: many of them be there for you. Oh, they'll go
[2:38] Speaker 2: around the corner with you and start shooting. But, okay,
[2:41] Speaker 2: when it's time to do some time and they can
[2:44] Speaker 2: lessen their sentence, you're going to get that time. They're
[2:46] Speaker 2: going to point their finger dead at you. I watch
[2:48] Speaker 2: 48 Hours all the time, man. I watch Lock Up
[2:51] Speaker 2: Raw all the time. All the time, man. All the time.
[2:55] Speaker 2: Ain't no real cold dudes out there just holding to
[2:57] Speaker 2: the mantra and sticking to it.
[3:00] Speaker 1: Even the mob turn stateside evidence, go fed, all that.
[3:04] Speaker 2: Now, we in the hood, we didn't create this ignorant
[3:06] Speaker 2: mess called no snitching with that ignorant mess.
[3:09] Speaker 1: You don't even understand. No snitching was created by criminals
[3:12] Speaker 1: as a code of honor.
[3:14] Speaker 2: If you do dirt and you get busted doing the dirt,
[3:17] Speaker 2: don't bring my name up if I was with you.
[3:19] Speaker 1: That's a code of honor amongst the thieves.
[3:21] Speaker 2: Now, so many code of honor thieves that came out
[3:24] Speaker 2: of prison ain't got no honor. They done bought their
[3:26] Speaker 2: stuff back to the street. Now, it's all in the neighborhood.
[3:28] Speaker 2: No snitching. No snitching. You got to be crazy. That's
[3:32] Speaker 2: for people who disobey the law. That's who people have
[3:35] Speaker 2: made a code of honor amongst themselves as thieves. Hey, man,
[3:38] Speaker 2: if you get busted, don't drag me down with you.
[3:41] Speaker 2: Just do your time. Oh, man, you can't bring that
[3:44] Speaker 2: stuff out here to me. I'm a law abiding citizen. Dog,
[3:47] Speaker 2: I'm trying to live right over here, man. I don't
[3:49] Speaker 2: want no crack house up street from my mama's house.
[3:52] Speaker 2: I'm trying to do right out here, man. You can't
[3:54] Speaker 2: do wrong and expect wrong not to come to you.
[3:57] Speaker 2: You got to make a decision every day to do right.
[4:00] Speaker 2: That guy ain't got no protection from you on dirt.
[4:02] Speaker 2: You got what you got coming. You made a decision.
[4:07] Speaker 2: You go down there to get some, you might get got. See,
[4:11] Speaker 2: we got to, come on, I'm talking to so many
[4:14] Speaker 2: men out here right now. I should have said that
[4:16] Speaker 2: in the beginning, but my conversation kind of got away
[4:19] Speaker 2: from me. I was going to talk to you about
[4:20] Speaker 2: something else this morning, but this just owe me, man,
[4:22] Speaker 2: because our communities, man, it's just going to the pot, man,
[4:26] Speaker 2: because ain't nobody caring about nobody else. Don't nobody care
[4:31] Speaker 2: when they see that young dude over there doing wrong.
[4:33] Speaker 2: Look at them fools over there. Man, go over there
[4:34] Speaker 2: and talk to one of them. Pull them to the side, man.
[4:38] Speaker 2: You might not be able to approach the group, but
[4:40] Speaker 2: you can approach an individual. Come here, young man. Let
[4:43] Speaker 2: me talk to you. I saw you the other day. Man,
[4:45] Speaker 2: you look like you got something going on in your life.
[4:47] Speaker 2: What's happening with you? Let me talk to you, man.
[4:49] Speaker 2: Let me share something I learned. I was doing what
[4:51] Speaker 2: you was doing. You know, it's like Tommy did a
[4:54] Speaker 2: prank phone call one time as a limo driver. And
[4:58] Speaker 2: the dude, the prank was he called this limo company
[5:01] Speaker 2: to ask this limo driver to take him to this
[5:05] Speaker 2: location late at night. And the limo driver got a
[5:09] Speaker 2: young business. He going, yeah, OK, I got you. I
[5:11] Speaker 2: don't normally work like that. But how long you need?
[5:13] Speaker 2: He said for just about an hour. He said, well,
[5:15] Speaker 2: I'm going to charge you for the full three, though,
[5:17] Speaker 2: because a three hour minimum. Tommy told him now I
[5:20] Speaker 2: just need it for one hour. He said, OK, I'll
[5:22] Speaker 2: give you a break. Young man, you're trying to do
[5:24] Speaker 2: something where you want to go. He gave an address.
[5:27] Speaker 2: The man stopped writing. He said, that's a bank. He said, yeah.
[5:31] Speaker 2: He said, you want to go to the bank at
[5:33] Speaker 2: 1230 at night? He said, yeah. And I'm going to
[5:36] Speaker 2: be in for a few minutes. And when I come
[5:39] Speaker 2: out that bank, I need for you to flow it.
[5:42] Speaker 2: That to do with the limo. He stopped writing. He said,
[5:45] Speaker 2: hold on. Hold on, man. You want me to take
[5:49] Speaker 2: you to a bank 1230 at night? You're going to
[5:52] Speaker 2: be in there for a few minutes and you're going
[5:54] Speaker 2: to come out and you want me to floor it.
[5:57] Speaker 2: He said, sir, I don't do stuff like that. He said,
[5:59] Speaker 2: you got the wrong company. He said, what made you
[6:01] Speaker 2: call here? He said, hey, man, don't worry about that.
[6:03] Speaker 2: You a limo company. You just drive. He stopped and
[6:06] Speaker 2: took the time out. He said, young man, let me
[6:09] Speaker 2: tell you something. He said, I've been down before. I've
[6:12] Speaker 2: been locked up before. It ain't pretty. He said, that's
[6:16] Speaker 2: what's wrong with you young people today. Instead of going
[6:18] Speaker 2: to get a job trying to work your way, you
[6:20] Speaker 2: always looking for some fast money. He said, I'm going
[6:22] Speaker 2: to tell you what I already know. Don't go down
[6:24] Speaker 2: there messing with them people's money like that because they
[6:26] Speaker 2: love that money way more than they love you. And
[6:29] Speaker 2: they're going to do something to you down there. Now,
[6:30] Speaker 2: you stop this foolishness. And I'm not carrying you nowhere.
[6:34] Speaker 2: But I'm going to take a little bit of time
[6:36] Speaker 2: out to tell you something. Don't go down here messing
[6:39] Speaker 2: with these people's money because it ain't going to go good.
[6:42] Speaker 2: They're going to take care of their business when it
[6:43] Speaker 2: comes to that money. Tommy kept insisting to this man
[6:46] Speaker 2: to pick him up in the limo. It was a
[6:47] Speaker 2: prank phone call. But the point I'm making is the
[6:50] Speaker 2: man took our time. He could have just hung the
[6:52] Speaker 2: phone up. But you know what he said? He said,
[6:54] Speaker 2: hold up, young man. Let me hip you to something.
[6:57] Speaker 2: Because the brother had been locked up before. He said, no, no, no. See,
[7:00] Speaker 2: I've done that when I was young. Now I'm going
[7:02] Speaker 2: to stop and I'm going to take some moment out
[7:03] Speaker 2: to tell you I'm up here working, man, trying to
[7:05] Speaker 2: earn an honest living. I ain't going back down there
[7:08] Speaker 2: because I don't. They make you eat what they want
[7:10] Speaker 2: you to eat. You don't want the food. You've got
[7:12] Speaker 2: to get up when they say get up. You've got
[7:13] Speaker 2: to stay where they say stay. Live with who they
[7:15] Speaker 2: say live. He said, man, you don't want that. And
[7:18] Speaker 2: he just tried to talk the young man out of it.
[7:21] Speaker 2: You can change a young man's mind with a conversation.
[7:24] Speaker 2: A conversation can change a young man's mind. Most of
[7:27] Speaker 2: these young men that are misguided ain't having conversations with
[7:30] Speaker 2: real men.
[7:32] Speaker 1: They just not having them.
[7:33] Speaker 2: And it's up to us who know what manhood is,
[7:36] Speaker 2: is to start delivering the message. The problem that we
[7:39] Speaker 2: have in our communities, we can solve ourselves. It didn't
[7:42] Speaker 2: escalate it to a point because we who are men
[7:45] Speaker 2: won't stop on our corporate climb and our day-to-day making
[7:48] Speaker 2: money and trying to ball out. We won't stop and
[7:51] Speaker 2: grab some of these young soldiers and tell them the
[7:53] Speaker 2: truth about manhood.
[7:55] Speaker 1: That's the real deal, okay? So I went down to
[7:57] Speaker 1: where they came from. You're listening to the Steve Harvey
[8:00] Speaker 1: Morning Show.
