[0:00] Speaker 1: Come on. Uh-huh. I sure will.
[0:05] Speaker 2: Hey, good morning, everybody. You're listening to The Voice. Come on,
[0:09] Speaker 2: dig me now. One and only Steve Harvey. Got a
[0:12] Speaker 2: radio show. I've been saying it like that since I
[0:15] Speaker 2: got it, too.
[0:16] Speaker 1: All right.
[0:18] Speaker 2: I got a good one for you today. Yesterday, the
[0:20] Speaker 2: other day, I was talking to you about the most
[0:23] Speaker 2: effective weapon available to us as human beings, I think,
[0:26] Speaker 2: is prayer. I think prayer... Helps us in so many ways.
[0:31] Speaker 2: But right now, what I want to do is I
[0:34] Speaker 2: want to show you how prayer pays off.
[0:37] Speaker 1: I want to show you what good it can do
[0:39] Speaker 1: for you. Even me. I use it every day. And
[0:43] Speaker 1: the days I don't use it, I feel it.
[0:47] Speaker 2: You know, the days that I go, you know, without
[0:49] Speaker 2: talking to him as much, I notice it.
[0:51] Speaker 1: I feel it. I feel a certain kind of way.
[0:54] Speaker 1: You know, that.
[0:56] Speaker 2: Doubt starts slipping in again. That uneasy feeling of uncertainty
[1:00] Speaker 2: slips in again. That wondering what I'm going to do
[1:03] Speaker 2: starts slipping in again. It happens to me. It happens
[1:06] Speaker 2: to everybody, man, I think. I really, really do. You know,
[1:09] Speaker 2: people would just keep it real with each other. Stop
[1:12] Speaker 2: being this Christian, this Superman, because you ain't.
[1:16] Speaker 1: You ain't. There's a scripture that says there's none perfect. No,
[1:22] Speaker 1: not one. That's everybody. That covers all of us, don't it?
[1:27] Speaker 2: So sometimes I think we're a little too hard on
[1:30] Speaker 2: each other with that, too, seeing as how we're not perfect.
[1:34] Speaker 2: We immediately want to just, oh, man, you just want
[1:38] Speaker 2: to kill when we find somebody do something wrong. It's
[1:40] Speaker 2: better if we go public. Everything go public now because
[1:43] Speaker 2: of social media. But anyway, I just want to talk
[1:46] Speaker 2: to you about how prayer pays off. It's called ROI
[1:50] Speaker 2: in money. People got money, call it ROI, so return
[1:54] Speaker 2: on investment. People are always looking for a return on investment.
[1:58] Speaker 2: You know, nobody in business really gives you money without
[2:02] Speaker 2: understanding the return on investment. They don't even give monies
[2:06] Speaker 2: to charities unless they think it can do something with
[2:09] Speaker 2: the bottom line. A lot of companies work like that.
[2:12] Speaker 2: I found that out myself. Sad, but it is true.
[2:16] Speaker 2: So since everything is expected to work on a return
[2:20] Speaker 2: on investment, I assume because we're human beings. So since
[2:23] Speaker 2: we are human beings, whether you're in business or not,
[2:27] Speaker 2: you're still in the business of living. I think when
[2:31] Speaker 2: you pray, you should expect a return on your investment.
[2:36] Speaker 1: You talked to him.
[2:38] Speaker 2: You spent time opening up to him. You bowed your
[2:41] Speaker 2: head to him. You humbled yourself. You got on your knees.
[2:47] Speaker 2: I mean, but really, we're talking God here. So really,
[2:49] Speaker 2: what you're doing ain't really about nothing. Be honest with you.
[2:51] Speaker 2: The little bit that you do do on his behalf,
[2:55] Speaker 2: it just pales in comparison with what he does. But
[2:58] Speaker 2: let's just say you want to call yourself invested. Well,
[3:02] Speaker 2: let me show you how it pays off. This is because, see,
[3:05] Speaker 2: for me, this is for me now. Prayer pays off
[3:08] Speaker 2: in different ways. That's what I had to learn. See,
[3:11] Speaker 2: I was praying, but I was asking him specifically for
[3:14] Speaker 2: what I wanted. I had the audacity, though, to turn
[3:18] Speaker 2: around and tell him how to do what I wanted.
[3:21] Speaker 1: That's amazing, man.
[3:22] Speaker 2: I can't tell you how many blessings I blocked coming
[3:24] Speaker 2: my way by putting my faith in what I said
[3:28] Speaker 2: I wanted and how I wanted him to do it.
[3:31] Speaker 2: I want you to give me this. I want that
[3:34] Speaker 2: person to go away. I want this person to accept
[3:38] Speaker 2: everything you say. Then I want to go over here
[3:41] Speaker 2: and I want this deal to happen like this. And
[3:43] Speaker 2: I want that person to just step aside and let
[3:47] Speaker 2: me through. And then I had it mapped out. God
[3:51] Speaker 2: must have been chuckling really hard. He had to be going, boy,
[3:55] Speaker 2: I made you to be funny, but boy, you funny now.
[3:57] Speaker 2: So you're going to tell me how to do it.
[3:59] Speaker 2: And you've all heard this right here. If you want
[4:01] Speaker 2: to make God laugh, tell him your plan. Well, that's
[4:04] Speaker 2: what I did. And that's how we pray a lot
[4:06] Speaker 2: of times. We pray and we pray in the prayer.
[4:09] Speaker 2: We're telling him how to work it out. Well, here's
[4:14] Speaker 2: the deal. This is what I've learned. Prayer pays off
[4:17] Speaker 2: in different ways. There's a different return of my investment
[4:20] Speaker 2: when I pray. See, sometimes when I'm praying for something,
[4:25] Speaker 2: a situation to dissolve itself or go away, sometimes I
[4:30] Speaker 2: get courage out of the prayer. Prayer provides me courage.
[4:35] Speaker 2: That's just to go on and look at it, I guess.
[4:40] Speaker 1: Face it.
[4:41] Speaker 2: Then sometimes when I'm praying about a situation, sometimes prayer
[4:47] Speaker 2: gives me hanging power. Sometimes, man, it just I look
[4:51] Speaker 2: up and I'm just handling it better. Sometimes prayer gives
[4:55] Speaker 2: you laugh it off power. Sometimes, man, you just got
[5:00] Speaker 2: to laugh it off. Whatever, man, you trip it. Do
[5:06] Speaker 2: you know what that is? If you could do that?
[5:10] Speaker 1: You know, sometimes it gives you a show of strength, power.
[5:16] Speaker 2: Sometimes prayer allows you to have the appearance that you
[5:19] Speaker 2: got it all together. Nobody got to know the whirlwind,
[5:24] Speaker 2: the tornado, the hurricane that's swirling in your life. You
[5:28] Speaker 2: standing over there like the eye of the hurricane. And
[5:30] Speaker 2: it's all swirling around you, but you standing there like
[5:33] Speaker 2: the eye. You just as calm. That's what prayer does.
[5:37] Speaker 2: So when you pray, man, It builds up a lot
[5:40] Speaker 2: of things in you. You know what it's done for me?
[5:43] Speaker 2: Prayer has built up character in me. It's made me
[5:46] Speaker 2: have more character because I'm able to stand stronger on
[5:50] Speaker 2: the things I say because I've been praying. Because I've
[5:54] Speaker 2: been asking God for all of those return of investments.
[5:57] Speaker 2: I've been asking God for courage. I've been asking God
[6:01] Speaker 2: for hanging that power. I've been asking him to give
[6:03] Speaker 2: me the power to walk away. I've asked him to
[6:06] Speaker 2: give me ignored power. I've asked him to help me
[6:08] Speaker 2: laugh it off. I've asked him to show me strength.
[6:11] Speaker 2: But you know what I was doing? I was really praying,
[6:13] Speaker 2: not really for them things, be real with you. I
[6:16] Speaker 2: was asking him to help me. Lord, help me.
[6:19] Speaker 1: You ever done that? You ever asked God for help
[6:21] Speaker 1: and then all of a sudden a list of these
[6:23] Speaker 1: things show up?
[6:24] Speaker 2: See, sometimes how you want the problem to be solved
[6:27] Speaker 2: ain't the best way. There's a lesson to be learned
[6:29] Speaker 2: when we make mistakes. And sometimes you got to stay
[6:32] Speaker 2: in that fire and you got to learn that lesson.
[6:35] Speaker 2: But guess what, though? When you come out of it,
[6:38] Speaker 2: you're going to be better for it. You're going to
[6:40] Speaker 2: know more about it.
[6:41] Speaker 1: Come on, y'all. Pray. He's solid. His word is true.
[6:44] Speaker 1: It lasts forever.
[6:45] Speaker 2: He do what he say he going to do now
[6:48] Speaker 2: all day, all night. 24 seven. He do it all day,
[6:53] Speaker 2: all night. And then some more. His word don't ever change.
[6:56] Speaker 2: It's true. It works for me. It worked for you.
[7:00] Speaker 2: It worked for Jake's. It worked for old steam. It
[7:03] Speaker 2: worked for Kirk Franklin. It worked for Paula white. It
[7:07] Speaker 2: worked for Billy Graham. It worked for mother Teresa. It
[7:11] Speaker 2: worked for Gandhi. It worked for princes, Arabs. It worked, man.
[7:17] Speaker 2: It worked for you. What you waiting for? Why don't
[7:21] Speaker 2: you put prayer in your game? Watch what happened to you.
[7:24] Speaker 2: You sitting in that jail cell and you struggling with
[7:26] Speaker 2: it and they telling you blood in blood out. You
[7:29] Speaker 2: can't get in you.
[7:30] Speaker 1: That's foolishness, man. What you mean? God can get you
[7:33] Speaker 1: out of anything.
[7:35] Speaker 2: Look, man, if you done read your Bible, he done
[7:37] Speaker 2: got some people out in some sticky situations. I don't
[7:39] Speaker 2: know what you're talking about. If Daniel was in the
[7:41] Speaker 2: lion's den and Jonah was in the belly of the whale,
[7:44] Speaker 2: what you talking about? You just sitting in a cell
[7:46] Speaker 2: with some dudes around you talking about what they going
[7:48] Speaker 2: to do. Man, you got to be real. God can't
[7:50] Speaker 2: nothing do nothing. Nobody can't nobody do nothing to you.
[7:54] Speaker 2: God won't give you the strength to handle. Prayer changes things, man.
