[0:00] Speaker 1: Come on.
[0:00] Speaker 2: Do your thing, Big Daddy. I said, uh-huh. I sure will.
[0:05] Speaker 1: Good morning, everybody. You all listening to The Voice. Come on,
[0:09] Speaker 1: dig me now. One and only, Steve Harvey. Got a
[0:12] Speaker 1: radio show. I feel it's necessary to explain what I
[0:15] Speaker 1: say in the morning because somebody asked me, what do
[0:18] Speaker 1: you mean by that when you say that in the morning?
[0:21] Speaker 1: When I say, uh-huh, it's in response to David Hollister
[0:26] Speaker 1: opening the song by saying, go ahead, Big Daddy.
[0:30] Speaker 2: Go ahead.
[0:30] Speaker 1: I said, uh-huh, I sure will. Then I say, good morning, everybody,
[0:35] Speaker 1: because I was raised that way. You're supposed to speak
[0:37] Speaker 1: when you come in the room. I'm coming in y'all's room,
[0:41] Speaker 1: whether it's your bedroom, the room in your house, your car,
[0:45] Speaker 1: your office, you know, wherever you're at. I come in
[0:47] Speaker 1: the room, I got to speak. So I say, good morning, everybody.
[0:51] Speaker 1: You are listening to the voice. And then I got
[0:54] Speaker 1: to introduce myself because as a performer, I always felt
[0:58] Speaker 1: my best when I was introduced. Why would you walk
[1:01] Speaker 1: out on stage and nobody introduce you? You can't get
[1:04] Speaker 1: a round of applause. It's just, it's horrible. So I say,
[1:07] Speaker 1: you are listening to the voice. One and only Steve Harvey.
[1:12] Speaker 1: Come on, dig me now. Now that's old school. I
[1:15] Speaker 1: got that. But that's, I was, once again, dig me
[1:18] Speaker 1: now is I want you to feel what I'm about
[1:21] Speaker 1: to say. That's all I'm saying. That's not a bragging thing.
[1:26] Speaker 1: You know, Y'all listening to the voice, one and only
[1:29] Speaker 1: Steve Harvey. Come on, dig me now. I'm just asking
[1:32] Speaker 1: you to feel what I'm saying in the morning because
[1:35] Speaker 1: it's part of a promise that I made to God. See,
[1:38] Speaker 1: a long time ago, I told God if he allowed
[1:41] Speaker 1: me to make it, that when I got there, I
[1:44] Speaker 1: would tell everybody I know how I did it. And
[1:48] Speaker 1: I wasn't going to shortcut it or shade him on it.
[1:50] Speaker 1: I said, if you allow me to make it, if
[1:53] Speaker 1: you give me the strength, the courage, the wisdom, You
[1:57] Speaker 1: gave me a gift. If you let me apply it,
[2:00] Speaker 1: don't destroy myself in the process. Forgive me for my
[2:04] Speaker 1: sins along the way. Continue to hold and rock me
[2:07] Speaker 1: when I need it. When I make it, I promise you, Lord,
[2:12] Speaker 1: when I get there, I will tell everybody how I
[2:15] Speaker 1: made it. Well, this started back in L.A. when I
[2:21] Speaker 1: got on the radio and I was making it OK.
[2:25] Speaker 1: I was doing OK. But I had to keep my
[2:28] Speaker 1: promise to God. My promise was, if you allow me
[2:31] Speaker 1: to make it, I'll tell everybody how I got there.
[2:36] Speaker 1: I have to tell you that every day, because if
[2:40] Speaker 1: it was not for that grace and mercy, I wouldn't
[2:43] Speaker 1: even be here able to fulfill my promise because I've
[2:46] Speaker 1: done enough dirt in my life, man, to not be worthy.
[2:51] Speaker 1: He could have easily walked away from me a long
[2:53] Speaker 1: time ago. Because I had sure walked away from him. See,
[2:58] Speaker 1: and I didn't walk away from him once. I walked
[3:01] Speaker 1: away from him a bunch of times. But guess what?
[3:05] Speaker 2: He forgave me a bunch of times.
[3:08] Speaker 1: I'm a living example of hundreds of chances. His forgiveness
[3:15] Speaker 1: and his mercy is available for everybody. It's the only
[3:19] Speaker 1: reason I get on this show every day. It's the
[3:21] Speaker 1: only reason I have the blessings that's coming my way.
[3:24] Speaker 1: It's the only way that things that keep happening in
[3:27] Speaker 1: my life, man, that I have no explanation for. It's
[3:32] Speaker 1: because of his grace and mercy. See, anytime something good
[3:36] Speaker 1: happens in my life and I can't explain it, that's
[3:39] Speaker 1: usually him. He exhibits to me. Remember, I'm a forgiving God, man.
[3:46] Speaker 2: Remember. So when you fall, Steve, don't lay down there.
[3:49] Speaker 2: Don't you lay down there.
[3:50] Speaker 1: Don't you let the devil fool you that because you
[3:53] Speaker 1: did made some mistakes that you ain't that you can't
[3:56] Speaker 1: do it because everybody going to make them.
[3:59] Speaker 2: There's none perfect. No, not one. So get up. Keep moving.
[4:03] Speaker 2: Keep pushing. Step on.
[4:06] Speaker 1: What you laying there for? Your daddy didn't raise you
[4:09] Speaker 1: that way. Look, man, my father was just about manhood.
[4:13] Speaker 1: I'm going to just tell you. My daddy never had
[4:15] Speaker 1: a conversation with me about church. He beat me for
[4:18] Speaker 1: not going, but, you know, a couple times, but He
[4:22] Speaker 1: wasn't about that.
[4:22] Speaker 2: It wasn't his message. That was my mama's job.
[4:25] Speaker 1: My mama taught me about being saved, about loving the Lord,
[4:28] Speaker 1: about giving your life, about the teachings of Jesus Christ.
[4:32] Speaker 1: My mama was a Sunday school teacher. So I got
[4:35] Speaker 1: all of that from her. My old man ain't had
[4:37] Speaker 1: none of that for me. My old man talked to
[4:39] Speaker 1: me about one thing all day long, hardworking manhood. And
[4:43] Speaker 1: you're going to get that if you don't get nothing
[4:44] Speaker 1: else from me. He gave that to me. So I
[4:47] Speaker 1: got it. See, so my father used to say, excuse
[4:51] Speaker 1: my language, but you ain't going to sit there like
[4:52] Speaker 1: no little punk up in here. You ain't doing what
[4:54] Speaker 1: you finna do. You finna get up and go do
[4:56] Speaker 1: what you supposed to do. Now stop all that whining
[4:59] Speaker 1: like some little punk and go on and get to moving.
[5:01] Speaker 1: That's how my father talked to me. Now I'm just
[5:02] Speaker 1: telling you real. It worked for me, though. And before
[5:06] Speaker 1: you start emailing me, that had nothing to do with
[5:08] Speaker 1: homosexuality at all. It's just that was his term for
[5:12] Speaker 1: a man not acting like a man.
[5:15] Speaker 2: That's all it was.
[5:16] Speaker 1: It was not a gay reference at all. I want
[5:18] Speaker 1: you to understand that before you start emailing me. So
[5:21] Speaker 1: my daddy wasn't calling. That was not a sexual reference
[5:23] Speaker 1: for him. My father talked to us. That's what he meant.
[5:26] Speaker 1: I knew exactly what he meant. He couldn't have meant
[5:28] Speaker 1: nothing else. He didn't even know nothing about that. My
[5:30] Speaker 1: old man clueless when it comes to that right there.
[5:34] Speaker 1: When I was getting down and feeling bad about myself,
[5:37] Speaker 1: my old man, he.
[5:38] Speaker 2: Taught me this toughness, man. He gave me this grit,
[5:41] Speaker 2: this doggedness, this go to work and work hard.
[5:44] Speaker 1: That's why today when God does bless me with something,
[5:47] Speaker 1: he ain't got to worry about me not working hard.
[5:51] Speaker 1: Cause that's in me. And when I get tired, I
[5:55] Speaker 1: ask that same God for strength to keep on doing
[5:58] Speaker 1: so I can do the blessings he got for me.
[6:01] Speaker 1: So when you ask me, how are you going to
[6:03] Speaker 1: do all this, Steve Harvey?
[6:04] Speaker 2: I don't know. I ain't got to figure that out.
[6:08] Speaker 1: All I got to do is show up with the
[6:10] Speaker 1: same amount of faith I've been showing up with. God
[6:12] Speaker 1: handled the rest of it. See, y'all, let me tell
[6:16] Speaker 1: you something. I don't see how you do it.
[6:18] Speaker 2: I don't either. Can I get you? Hey, man, newsflash.
[6:21] Speaker 2: Let me hear.
[6:22] Speaker 1: I don't see how you doing all SD.
[6:24] Speaker 2: You doing this. You doing that. You know, can I
[6:26] Speaker 2: tell you something? I don't either.
[6:28] Speaker 1: I just wake up with the faith, man, and trusting
[6:31] Speaker 1: that if he going to bless me with it, he
[6:33] Speaker 1: must be going to show me a way how to
[6:34] Speaker 1: get it done.
[6:35] Speaker 2: See, I ain't tripping on that part.
[6:37] Speaker 1: See, once you take yourself out the how to business,
[6:41] Speaker 1: you can go on and get with it. But see,
[6:44] Speaker 1: if you're going to trip yourself out with the how to,
[6:46] Speaker 1: you can't think like God can think. You can't figure
[6:48] Speaker 1: like God can figure. So now you sitting up in
[6:51] Speaker 1: here going, Lord, I want this to happen for me.
[6:53] Speaker 1: Then I don't know how I'm going to.
[6:55] Speaker 2: Do all that. Well, guess what?
[6:57] Speaker 1: You in the way now. See, now you in the way.
[7:00] Speaker 1: Because see, God ain't ask you to figure out how to.
[7:03] Speaker 1: He said, ask and believe. Then he said, faith without
[7:08] Speaker 1: works is dead. That's my solution. That's the concoction that
[7:13] Speaker 1: I'm functioning on. All I got to do is accept
[7:17] Speaker 1: the blessing, keep the faith, be willing to work and believe.
[7:22] Speaker 1: God can do anything but fail. Why would God bring
[7:26] Speaker 1: me this far to leave me? Why would he bring
[7:30] Speaker 1: you this far to leave you? So why I get
[7:35] Speaker 1: up every morning? I have no choice. I gots to
[7:39] Speaker 1: get up in here and rap. When I'm running late, man,
[7:41] Speaker 1: I try to plow through here. Sometimes I don't make it, man.
[7:44] Speaker 1: I got to do a rerun. But I plow through here. Because, man, Steve,
[7:47] Speaker 1: you're going to run out of something to say. No,
[7:49] Speaker 1: I'm going to just keep thanking him. Now, you can't
[7:51] Speaker 1: run out of that, can you? Because you owe him that.
[7:53] Speaker 1: Matter of fact, when I get through talking, I really
[7:56] Speaker 1: ain't thanked him enough.
[7:57] Speaker 2: You're listening to the Steve Harvey Morning Show.
