[0:01] Speaker 1: I sure will. Good morning, everybody. You are listening to
[0:07] Speaker 1: The Voice. Come on, dig me now. One and only
[0:10] Speaker 1: Steve Harvey got a radio show. Yeah, man. Steve Harvey
[0:15] Speaker 1: got a radio show. Trying to do something with it too, man.
[0:19] Speaker 1: You know, I was having a conversation the other day
[0:23] Speaker 1: with a young person. And they were telling me how
[0:27] Speaker 1: they felt that their life was stuck. that their life
[0:30] Speaker 1: was in a rut, that they, uh, didn't know what
[0:35] Speaker 1: to do next. And one of the things that was
[0:38] Speaker 1: causing them, uh, this sadness or this depression, I mean,
[0:42] Speaker 1: they're really, really into something right now. One of the
[0:45] Speaker 1: things that was causing it, um, was the fact that, um,
[0:49] Speaker 1: they had made a list of things they wanted to
[0:53] Speaker 1: accomplish by a certain age. And, um, They just had
[0:59] Speaker 1: a birthday recently and they were looking at the list
[1:06] Speaker 1: and the list hadn't been fulfilled. And because that list
[1:11] Speaker 1: hadn't been fulfilled, they were really, really sad about it.
[1:18] Speaker 1: You know, one of the things that they had on
[1:21] Speaker 1: the list was marriage, kids, And I don't know everything
[1:27] Speaker 1: else that was on the list, but that was one
[1:29] Speaker 1: of them. And because she had reached a certain age
[1:33] Speaker 1: and she wasn't married and she didn't have the kids
[1:36] Speaker 1: and she had just celebrated her birthday, she's gone into
[1:40] Speaker 1: this mode of sadness where it's really, really taken a
[1:45] Speaker 1: toll on her. And as I was learning about her situation,
[1:52] Speaker 1: I was thinking about it. And I just wanted to
[1:56] Speaker 1: share this with you all this morning that one of
[1:59] Speaker 1: the things about making a list about what you want,
[2:02] Speaker 1: which I happen to be a proponent of, I do
[2:04] Speaker 1: it myself. I have people have dream boards. I have
[2:08] Speaker 1: a goal sheet. I have I've been doing it for years.
[2:11] Speaker 1: It's a wonderful way to set goals and to keep
[2:16] Speaker 1: it in front of you as a constant reminder. And
[2:18] Speaker 1: I always go over this goal list every day. You know,
[2:21] Speaker 1: I mean, I go over it all the time, every day.
[2:25] Speaker 1: Sometimes I miss a day here and there, but mostly
[2:28] Speaker 1: every day I pull my goal sheet out and I
[2:30] Speaker 1: look at it, I read it. So I was going
[2:32] Speaker 1: to these rallies and I was learning about, you know,
[2:35] Speaker 1: people who were successful and how they kept their mind
[2:38] Speaker 1: right and positive. And one of the things I learned
[2:40] Speaker 1: was to make these dream boards, these lists, these goal sheets.
[2:44] Speaker 1: And in making a goal sheet, and you make the
[2:48] Speaker 1: sheet according to what you want. Think about one thing.
[2:53] Speaker 1: When you made your goal sheet about what you wanted,
[2:57] Speaker 1: does your goal sheet have on it? What God wants
[3:00] Speaker 1: from you? Did you ask in any of this? What
[3:04] Speaker 1: was his wheel in your life? You know, look, man,
[3:08] Speaker 1: what we want oftentimes is, is, is, is not what
[3:11] Speaker 1: he wants for us. And you know, if, If you're
[3:15] Speaker 1: fighting against what you were created for, if you're fighting
[3:18] Speaker 1: against his will, I mean, what do you want to happen? See,
[3:24] Speaker 1: don't be so hard on yourself when you look at
[3:25] Speaker 1: your goal sheet and you look at what you've not become,
[3:29] Speaker 1: what you thought was a great idea. Don't be so
[3:32] Speaker 1: hard on yourself because you just made a minor mistake,
[3:35] Speaker 1: as do most people. We oftentimes make our goals and
[3:38] Speaker 1: set our goals up without ever considering what is it
[3:41] Speaker 1: that God wants from us. We keep talking about what
[3:44] Speaker 1: we want without ever finding out or knowing what it
[3:47] Speaker 1: is God wants for us. Well, guess what, man? Maybe
[3:51] Speaker 1: you fighting against the grain. Maybe you just a salmon
[3:53] Speaker 1: heading upstream. That's a tough fight upstream. Not all salmons
[3:57] Speaker 1: get up to the spawning grounds. You know, some of
[3:59] Speaker 1: them don't make it upstream, you know, but all of them,
[4:03] Speaker 1: nearly all of them, except the ones that's killed by prey.
[4:05] Speaker 1: When they spawn, they go out to the ocean. That's cool.
[4:08] Speaker 1: Cause you going, cause you going with the grain, you
[4:11] Speaker 1: going downstream, you going with the flow. That's, but, but
[4:15] Speaker 1: when it's time to go against the grain, It's tough.
[4:18] Speaker 1: And a lot of us have just been going against
[4:20] Speaker 1: the grain for all of these years. But you know what? Listen, man,
[4:24] Speaker 1: I did it. I know a lot of people who
[4:26] Speaker 1: did it. Very few people get it right from the
[4:29] Speaker 1: very beginning. Man, you got to stumble through life sometimes.
[4:33] Speaker 1: Sometimes you got to fall through life. You got to
[4:36] Speaker 1: make a lot of mistakes, man. But these mistakes are
[4:39] Speaker 1: not failures. You know, when you fail at something, don't
[4:41] Speaker 1: look at it as a failure. Don't look at yourself
[4:43] Speaker 1: as a failure because you're 30 and your goals ain't
[4:46] Speaker 1: reached that you had on your list. That was your list.
[4:50] Speaker 1: What about the things that's going right? Stop looking at
[4:53] Speaker 1: what you're not. Take some time out and thank God
[4:56] Speaker 1: for what you are. How about the fact that you
[4:58] Speaker 1: keep waking up to be 30? You know, you get
[5:01] Speaker 1: depressed about these birthdays. You really want to throw yourself
[5:03] Speaker 1: in some depression. Miss a birthday. You really got a
[5:07] Speaker 1: problem now. Look at where you are. You keep reaching birthdays.
[5:11] Speaker 1: That's a glorious blessing. You keep waking up. You got
[5:15] Speaker 1: your health. You've accomplished something. Something on your list is done.
[5:19] Speaker 1: People spend too much time on the negative side and
[5:22] Speaker 1: you just throwing yourself into depression. So what you wanted
[5:25] Speaker 1: to be married by a certain age and you wanted
[5:27] Speaker 1: to have kids. Okay, cool. You could have done all
[5:29] Speaker 1: that with the wrong person. There's a blessing in not
[5:33] Speaker 1: being married to the wrong person. There's a blessing in
[5:36] Speaker 1: not having kids and nobody to help you raise them.
[5:38] Speaker 1: There's a blessing in that, man. You're talking to somebody
[5:41] Speaker 1: who can tell it to you. You can marry the
[5:43] Speaker 1: wrong person if you want to. I'm telling you, you're
[5:46] Speaker 1: going to be up in some mess you can't count on.
[5:48] Speaker 1: So instead of being angry because you're not married, you
[5:52] Speaker 1: don't have kids. Why don't you thank God, the man?
[5:54] Speaker 1: Maybe he spared you from some misery here. Maybe you
[5:56] Speaker 1: could have married the wrong person. Maybe you'd have kids
[5:59] Speaker 1: and you're not really ready to be a mother or
[6:01] Speaker 1: a father. You got to look at the upside, man.
[6:03] Speaker 1: Quit looking at what you don't have. Take some time
[6:06] Speaker 1: to thank God for what you do have. When you
[6:09] Speaker 1: do that, you make more room for blessings to flow
[6:11] Speaker 1: into your life. I'm not saying how God thinks because
[6:15] Speaker 1: I really don't know. But I'm telling you, if a
[6:19] Speaker 1: person comes to me and I always give a person
[6:21] Speaker 1: something and they never appear grateful or they never say
[6:24] Speaker 1: thank you, please know you can quit coming to me. Now,
[6:28] Speaker 1: I don't know that's how God works because I've gone
[6:32] Speaker 1: back to him several times without being grateful or thanking him.
[6:35] Speaker 1: And he's filled my basket up again. So I really
[6:39] Speaker 1: think he's not like that. But I can't make the
[6:41] Speaker 1: call for sure. But I think at one point in time, me,
[6:46] Speaker 1: just me talking, I'd be a little ticked off at
[6:49] Speaker 1: somebody who was always taking, taking, taking and never showing
[6:53] Speaker 1: any gratitude. At one point in time, I would just
[6:56] Speaker 1: stop the flow of the take. You know, you just
[6:59] Speaker 1: you can't take no more from me. That's what I
[7:01] Speaker 1: would do. Now, I'm not calling it like that because
[7:04] Speaker 1: I ain't him, but I know he's merciful. He's full
[7:07] Speaker 1: of goodness and he and he'll forgive you again. And
[7:10] Speaker 1: thank God he does that because he's shown up done
[7:12] Speaker 1: it for me. But wow, man, take some time out
[7:15] Speaker 1: today and be grateful for what you have. Stop complaining
[7:18] Speaker 1: about where you not and think about where you are
[7:21] Speaker 1: and then take it from there. And the next time
[7:23] Speaker 1: you make a list. Make sure on that list you
[7:26] Speaker 1: have God's will. What does he want for you? God create,
[7:30] Speaker 1: give everybody a gift and a talent. Some of us
[7:32] Speaker 1: never apply gifts and talents. We head off in another direction.
[7:36] Speaker 1: Then you wonder why your life ain't where it's supposed
[7:38] Speaker 1: to be. Have you ever thought about what God gifted
[7:41] Speaker 1: you to do? Have you ever thought about doing that? Skip,
[7:43] Speaker 1: skip what you want. I wanted to play in the NBA,
[7:46] Speaker 1: but I got to tell you something. At dribbling and
[7:49] Speaker 1: shooting and running all at one time was throwing me
[7:52] Speaker 1: off a little bit. You know, they just, So I'm
[7:55] Speaker 1: doing what I do. It's pretty cool. You can look
[7:57] Speaker 1: at it that way, okay? You're listening to the Steve
[8:00] Speaker 1: Harvey Morning Show.
