[0:00] Speaker 1: Scrubbing In with Beca Tilly and Tanya rad and iHeartRadio
[0:04] Speaker 1: and two times People's Choice Award winning podcast.
[0:10] Speaker 2: Hello everybody, Happy Thanksgiving.
[0:12] Speaker 3: Happy Thanksgiving. We're scrubbing in. You've gobbling some turkey down
[0:22] Speaker 3: right now.
[0:23] Speaker 2: We have so much food today, Like it's going to
[0:27] Speaker 2: be in the kitchen.
[0:28] Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm gonna be I'm gonna be gobble gobble, gobbling.
[0:31] Speaker 4: Fucking we have so much food right now.
[0:35] Speaker 2: This very moment, I meant for our Thanksgiving feast?
[0:40] Speaker 4: What God, what are you providing for the people?
[0:43] Speaker 3: Because you're hosting so like you have the table, You've
[0:46] Speaker 3: done all the setup, yes.
[0:47] Speaker 4: But what else?
[0:48] Speaker 2: Let me tell you a little something about the setup.
[0:51] Speaker 4: Tell me about the setup.
[0:52] Speaker 1: We do not have setup for thirty people. No, yeah,
[0:56] Speaker 1: no we don't. So we have to rent every time
[0:59] Speaker 1: we do these types of things. Very normal, I know,
[1:03] Speaker 1: but like not even like the plates or like any
[1:04] Speaker 1: like we don't have any of that stuff.
[1:06] Speaker 2: So we order all that stuff.
[1:07] Speaker 1: But then also thinking about all the drinks that you're
[1:10] Speaker 1: gonna have, like we're gonna have sparkling apple cider for
[1:12] Speaker 1: the kids, and like all the like juices and like
[1:15] Speaker 1: getting all that stuff together. And then like all the
[1:17] Speaker 1: autment for like the pies, making sure we have ice
[1:20] Speaker 1: cream and like what is that?
[1:24] Speaker 2: It's like stuff that goes with things.
[1:26] Speaker 4: Yeah?
[1:27] Speaker 2: Is that right?
[1:27] Speaker 5: She is correct?
[1:29] Speaker 1: Like so like we have pumpkin pie, but you can't
[1:33] Speaker 1: have pumpkin pie without vanilla ice cream. Oh, so, like
[1:36] Speaker 1: you know what I mean, like making sure we have
[1:37] Speaker 1: all the little things that we need to go with everything.
[1:43] Speaker 1: And then we did potlock style, so basically everybody's bringing
[1:45] Speaker 1: a dish, and then Robbi and I kind of just
[1:47] Speaker 1: like filled in the holes of what we were missing.
[1:49] Speaker 4: What holes are you all filling?
[1:51] Speaker 1: Mashed potatoes stuffing? What that's a big hole? Stuffing and.
[2:00] Speaker 6: Juice?
[2:00] Speaker 4: No, those are not holes to fill in. Those are
[2:04] Speaker 4: the main courses.
[2:05] Speaker 1: Yeah, well we just kind of said, like pot luck,
[2:06] Speaker 1: bring whatever you want. So we just let people just
[2:09] Speaker 1: whatever they wanted, their favorites, and then we just kind.
[2:11] Speaker 2: Of yeah, luckily nothing really no repeat, no repeats.
[2:16] Speaker 1: Yeah, we have like a sweet potato cast role, We've
[2:18] Speaker 1: got turkey, We've got rice, persian rice, veggies, grilled veggies, salad,
[2:23] Speaker 1: mac and cheese, a bloody merry bar pot roast, yeah.
[2:28] Speaker 3: Che che Yeah, I guess we're doing the same thing,
[2:32] Speaker 3: like everyone's kind of bringing different things, and.
[2:35] Speaker 2: Then what are you guys doing? Are you doing the turkey?
[2:37] Speaker 4: I'm doing no.
[2:38] Speaker 3: Well, so Hailey's making a roast, we're doing her sister's
[2:40] Speaker 3: doing a turkey, and then Hailey's doing like a pot roast.
[2:43] Speaker 4: Yeah, and then I'm doing sweet potato cast roll and
[2:46] Speaker 4: then I provide it.
[2:47] Speaker 3: So I didn't hear you list rolls or bread, y'all
[2:50] Speaker 3: don't do rolls or bread.
[2:51] Speaker 2: Oh my mom is making like a Serbian.
[2:55] Speaker 1: Bread basically, okay, So it's like it's almost like a
[2:57] Speaker 1: little croissant, but it's not even like a cross.
[3:00] Speaker 2: And then there's cheese inside and some of them have
[3:02] Speaker 2: meat inside.
[3:02] Speaker 4: Oh delicious.
[3:04] Speaker 3: So Hailey's family never had bread like rolls or anything,
[3:07] Speaker 3: no bread dish, and that was my favorite part of
[3:10] Speaker 3: the meal growing up because I would dip the.
[3:13] Speaker 4: Roll in the mask.
[3:16] Speaker 3: So one year I was like, do you think it's
[3:18] Speaker 3: okay if I just bring some rolls for the for everyone?
[3:22] Speaker 4: And Haley's like, yeah, of course, And her brother was like, Becca,
[3:25] Speaker 4: this is a great addition.
[3:27] Speaker 3: This really adds And I was like, I'm so happy
[3:30] Speaker 3: to bring this to you. So I provide the rolls
[3:33] Speaker 3: for bread, and then I do slee potato crass roll
[3:36] Speaker 3: and then Haley does is doing roast, and then she
[3:38] Speaker 3: makes a cranberry sauce.
[3:40] Speaker 2: Yes, yeah, yeah.
[3:42] Speaker 3: So I should probably get those ingredients today.
[3:47] Speaker 2: Yes, yes, that's the whole thing, like it's like.
[3:50] Speaker 1: And then we also have like his dad's making grablocks,
[3:54] Speaker 1: like homemade grab blocks.
[3:55] Speaker 4: I don't know what that is.
[3:56] Speaker 2: It's like salmon. It's it's like.
[4:00] Speaker 5: It's actually the official grab box. It's a Nordic dish
[4:04] Speaker 5: consisting of salmon that is cured using imix of salt, sugar,
[4:06] Speaker 5: and dill.
[4:07] Speaker 2: Yeah, it's like locks.
[4:10] Speaker 4: Oh okay, it's basically just like locks. Gotcha.
[4:12] Speaker 1: And then we have a charcooterie board and lots of dessert.
[4:18] Speaker 1: So oh, I can actually say it now because it's
[4:21] Speaker 1: not spoiler because we didn't want to spoiler for our guests.
[4:24] Speaker 1: But we took this photo of the first Thanksgiving and
[4:27] Speaker 1: we put all of our family spaces on top of
[4:30] Speaker 1: the people at the in the photo, so we like
[4:35] Speaker 1: photoshopped all of our faces onto it.
[4:37] Speaker 4: Really funny.
[4:37] Speaker 1: Wow, So it's a surprise, and so we put it
[4:40] Speaker 1: on a cake. So everybody will like see their their
[4:43] Speaker 1: faces around like our and we put like the Yadagar's
[4:47] Speaker 1: first Thanksgiving.
[4:47] Speaker 2: So it's like, oh, that's cute.
[4:49] Speaker 4: That's a very couple. Yeah, how exciting.
[4:52] Speaker 2: Yeah, it's cute.
[4:53] Speaker 4: It's really funny. What are y'all doing? Easton?
[4:55] Speaker 5: We go up to uh in northern California, where my
[4:58] Speaker 5: parents are and where we spend things, even with my
[5:01] Speaker 5: mom's side of the family. It's really big. And we
[5:04] Speaker 5: rented out the community center, oh Gustine, California, and we'll
[5:10] Speaker 5: be hanging out there and we don't bring a dang thing.
[5:13] Speaker 5: Sometimes we bring a dessert, Allison and I. But because
[5:15] Speaker 5: we're coming from La we get to be like the
[5:17] Speaker 5: Hollywood people that don't Yeah.
[5:19] Speaker 1: What would you bring, like if something goes on a plane,
[5:21] Speaker 1: like yeah, maybe rolls.
[5:26] Speaker 5: Yeah. But we go up like a few days before
[5:29] Speaker 5: and hang out with my mom and stuff like that.
[5:31] Speaker 2: It's all fun.
[5:32] Speaker 1: You know what this makes me like think of though
[5:35] Speaker 1: back in the day, like my parents just would do Thanksgiving,
[5:39] Speaker 1: like they would just make everything themselves, no pot luck,
[5:43] Speaker 1: Like are we weaker as a generation?
[5:46] Speaker 2: Like I mean, yes, okay.
[5:49] Speaker 3: All around, all right, yes, Well, growing up was so
[5:53] Speaker 3: funny for me because unless we went to our extended
[5:56] Speaker 3: family Thanksgiving, we didn't really like the true Thanksgiving food
[6:01] Speaker 3: like as kids, so my parents would just make what
[6:03] Speaker 3: we liked, like it would be like a meal that
[6:07] Speaker 3: we didn't eat a lot, but something that we loved,
[6:10] Speaker 3: and that would be our Thanksgiving. So as an adult,
[6:13] Speaker 3: I appreciate Thanksgiving food and I go, I go for it,
[6:17] Speaker 3: you know. But as a kid, I didn't want like
[6:20] Speaker 3: dry turkey or.
[6:21] Speaker 2: Oh my gosh.
[6:22] Speaker 1: As a kid, there's no better bite than a little
[6:27] Speaker 1: turkey dipped in mashed potatoes dipped in cranberry sauce.
[6:31] Speaker 4: Yeah, those three together is like dynamic.
[6:35] Speaker 1: Man, It's like getting a rice crispy treat on a Tuesday.
[6:39] Speaker 3: But you funny enough, I do have to argue that
[6:42] Speaker 3: in terms of turkey, you have to dip it in
[6:45] Speaker 3: something or have great like.
[6:46] Speaker 2: The moisture oil on top, just.
[6:51] Speaker 4: Drink it and all. Yeah, Sam, what are you all doing?
[6:57] Speaker 7: I'm going to my boyfriend's dad's for Thanksgiving this year?
[7:01] Speaker 4: Is that also in Northern Californa?
[7:03] Speaker 2: Yes, we actually will be right around the corner we're.
[7:05] Speaker 4: In moment, head to the community.
[7:08] Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, Actually I'm gonna invite us right now. I
[7:19] Speaker 2: do love this time of year.
[7:20] Speaker 4: It's great.
[7:21] Speaker 2: Yeah, is the best?
[7:23] Speaker 3: What do you think is the most overrated Thanksgiving food?
[7:27] Speaker 1: So I have an answer to this, but I feel
[7:28] Speaker 1: like you guys are gonna hate it?
[7:31] Speaker 4: Should we wait?
[7:32] Speaker 2: You should break?
[7:35] Speaker 6: I'm so hungry.
[7:57] Speaker 2: We're back.
[7:59] Speaker 1: My least favorite things giving food and something that I
[8:02] Speaker 1: probably will not touch or never put on my plate.
[8:05] Speaker 4: Me too, Me too?
[8:07] Speaker 6: WHOA? Like?
[8:08] Speaker 2: What is it?
[8:09] Speaker 1: Just stuff like mush stuff like mushed bread bread.
[8:15] Speaker 5: I didn't get into it until like the last five
[8:17] Speaker 5: or six years, but I love it now.
[8:19] Speaker 6: What's in it? Though?
[8:20] Speaker 3: It's like like every time I have it, there's new
[8:24] Speaker 3: ingredients and I'm like, I'm people just going mix.
[8:29] Speaker 5: It's like wet bread and onions and celery.
[8:32] Speaker 2: Right, guy? Sounds good to me, but I don't know.
[8:37] Speaker 3: I always put some on my plate and I eat
[8:39] Speaker 3: it to be respectful of whoever brought it. But it's
[8:42] Speaker 3: just not my It's like such a thing that is
[8:46] Speaker 3: hyped up around Thanksgiving that I personally don't feel the
[8:50] Speaker 3: passion for.
[8:51] Speaker 1: And you know what, I've never tried sweet potato casserole. Wow,
[8:56] Speaker 1: never in my life.
[8:57] Speaker 4: That's what I make every year. You would love it.
[8:59] Speaker 2: You're gonna try it.
[9:00] Speaker 1: My sister in law's sister is that's what she's bringing
[9:03] Speaker 1: to our Thanksgiving.
[9:04] Speaker 2: So I'm gonna you love the parents.
[9:06] Speaker 4: Who play from Delilah.
[9:07] Speaker 6: You're gonna love.
[9:08] Speaker 2: I love and marshmallows.
[9:10] Speaker 4: Yeah, you're gonna love it.
[9:11] Speaker 2: I know it's basically a healthy rice Chrispy treat.
[9:13] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[9:13] Speaker 2: I know, I'm like shocked.
[9:15] Speaker 1: I haven't, but it's like, never been at my Thanksgiving table.
[9:18] Speaker 1: It was never an option.
[9:19] Speaker 4: Wow, I'm so happy you're going to try it this year.
[9:22] Speaker 2: Yeah, thank you.
[9:22] Speaker 4: I really load on the marshmallows.
[9:24] Speaker 2: Like I think some people are like, oh, it's.
[9:26] Speaker 3: Really good, and they're probably just like so yeah, but
[9:29] Speaker 3: I love it. What is Are you gonna drink? Are
[9:33] Speaker 3: you going to be drinking or drinking?
[9:36] Speaker 2: I think I'm gonna be dry dry. I think we'll see.
[9:39] Speaker 4: Okay, what would you drink if you had to drink?
[9:42] Speaker 1: I like to enjoy wine on Thanksgiving? Nothing like read hard,
[9:46] Speaker 1: probably red a little red with the turkey.
[9:48] Speaker 2: Yeah he's right. Do you all have?
[9:51] Speaker 3: I just you know, nothing's better to me with Thanksgiving food.
[9:54] Speaker 4: Minnesota. The salt washed down.
[10:01] Speaker 2: Not do you know what's so funny?
[10:07] Speaker 6: Though?
[10:07] Speaker 1: When I'm craving like I like on Sunday at Sabrina's concert,
[10:10] Speaker 1: I was craving a ginger ale, Like all I wanted
[10:13] Speaker 1: was a ginger ale, insane And when that craving hits me,
[10:17] Speaker 1: there's nothing that tastes better.
[10:20] Speaker 2: Yeah, so I understand.
[10:22] Speaker 3: Yeah, well, a ginger ale on a plane with pretzels,
[10:26] Speaker 3: it's delightful.
[10:28] Speaker 1: I drink a lot of ginger ales on planes too, Yeah,
[10:30] Speaker 1: to calm my system.
[10:32] Speaker 4: Why did it ca your system? Yeah?
[10:34] Speaker 2: Because you get NASA on planes? Oh oh yeah yeah yeah.
[10:37] Speaker 3: Sh we talk about what you sent me when you
[10:39] Speaker 3: were arrived at my home for those Sabrina Carpenter concerts.
[10:43] Speaker 1: So I when the weather is rainy and cold, I no,
[10:48] Speaker 1: that's actually false.
[10:49] Speaker 2: I et this all the time.
[10:51] Speaker 4: What's happening.
[10:54] Speaker 1: I had a dinner that just like wasn't sitting in
[10:56] Speaker 1: my stomach right, and like I drove to Becca's house,
[10:59] Speaker 1: and Becka drove to the concert and I had so
[11:02] Speaker 1: such bad gas. I was like, I'm just warning you
[11:04] Speaker 1: right now, like, and I'm sorry because it's raining outside's
[11:07] Speaker 1: there's no.
[11:08] Speaker 4: If I get stuck in this. But I think chamber,
[11:11] Speaker 4: I can't roll the window.
[11:13] Speaker 1: Very toxic to hold them in, Like, I don't think
[11:15] Speaker 1: it's good to hold them in.
[11:18] Speaker 4: Yeah, I think you're right.
[11:19] Speaker 2: Yeah. So but it was back up.
[11:21] Speaker 1: Was lucky because by the time I got to her house,
[11:22] Speaker 1: I started burping. So I was like, I think it's
[11:24] Speaker 1: coming out the other end.
[11:25] Speaker 4: Now I was not.
[11:27] Speaker 2: I was.
[11:27] Speaker 3: I still had defeed Phoebe and she was sitting in
[11:29] Speaker 3: her car, So I was like, just sit in your
[11:31] Speaker 3: car and do what you need to do and I'll
[11:34] Speaker 3: let you know when I'm coming outside. Don't don't bother
[11:36] Speaker 3: coming into the house. But she goes, I have bad news,
[11:40] Speaker 3: and I was like, oh no. And she goes, I
[11:42] Speaker 3: have gas and I go like farts.
[11:45] Speaker 2: I'm like, no, yeah, I gas in my car.
[11:47] Speaker 4: Well that's a conversation that we have a lot. Yeah,
[11:49] Speaker 4: the gas in the car thing. Yeah, I don't know.
[11:52] Speaker 2: Yeah, you never know what.
[11:53] Speaker 3: But she she kept it respectful.
[11:57] Speaker 2: I was very respectful. Yeah, thank you.
[11:59] Speaker 3: Oh my other question about Thanksgiving, This was always a
[12:03] Speaker 3: conversation growing up. So when we'd go to extended families,
[12:07] Speaker 3: it felt like I needed to put on a fit,
[12:10] Speaker 3: like I wasn't just going to show up in sweats.
[12:12] Speaker 3: I was like, I'm decking out my unlimited to fits. Yeah,
[12:17] Speaker 3: and now obviously we're hosting this year, so I'll probably
[12:20] Speaker 3: be a little more dressed up, but still want to
[12:22] Speaker 3: be comfortable because we're just at the house.
[12:24] Speaker 4: What is your plan for fits?
[12:28] Speaker 2: Since it's today, I should know.
[12:30] Speaker 4: Right, what are you putting on.
[12:34] Speaker 2: Sweats?
[12:36] Speaker 1: No, we used to do the same because when we
[12:38] Speaker 1: were when I was a kid, our things even was
[12:39] Speaker 1: just like my immediate family, so there was no more
[12:42] Speaker 1: like you know, no more than really like ten of us.
[12:44] Speaker 6: Ever.
[12:45] Speaker 1: But every time we host, we get like a little
[12:47] Speaker 1: we do, like get a little bit more dressed up.
[12:50] Speaker 2: But I think it's gonna be cold this year.
[12:51] Speaker 1: I'll probably wear like pants and a pufferuffer best, No,
[12:58] Speaker 1: like a sweater or like maybe a sweater dress O cute. Yeah,
[13:03] Speaker 1: but yeah, we do like take it up.
[13:06] Speaker 4: But do the guests dress up? Is it expected or
[13:08] Speaker 4: do they just naturally dress up?
[13:10] Speaker 2: That's a good question.
[13:12] Speaker 1: My family's a little more low key, so they're but yeah,
[13:16] Speaker 1: everybody kind of shows up looking good.
[13:17] Speaker 4: What about y'all?
[13:19] Speaker 7: I used to do also do the Thanksgiving fit where
[13:22] Speaker 7: it was like you had to wear your best, Like
[13:23] Speaker 7: I don't know, sweater they're like skirts. I feel like
[13:26] Speaker 7: skirts and tights were in the next you know, but
[13:28] Speaker 7: now I feel like I've given up and I don't
[13:31] Speaker 7: care because I also realized that the all lot of
[13:32] Speaker 7: the time we would host things gonna get my house
[13:34] Speaker 7: and it was just family coming over, and I'm like,
[13:36] Speaker 7: why am I.
[13:37] Speaker 2: I it's a lot.
[13:41] Speaker 7: Yeah, so it's reverted to like sweats. Sweat sets, I
[13:44] Speaker 7: feel like are the standard now?
[13:46] Speaker 4: Yeah, what's the dress code at the community.
[13:49] Speaker 5: Center, the Gustine Community Center? Okay, uh, the pride of
[13:54] Speaker 5: the same one, Qing Valley. We do like business casual, like.
[13:58] Speaker 2: Oh wow, that's elevated.
[14:00] Speaker 5: Yeah, so everyone dresses like this sportster like we were
[14:04] Speaker 5: like jeans and a in an Abercrombie sweater.
[14:07] Speaker 2: Yeah we do. We have a lot of jeans.
[14:09] Speaker 5: Yeah, like a button up shirt no tie.
[14:11] Speaker 2: Yeah that's business casual.
[14:13] Speaker 6: Yeah.
[14:14] Speaker 5: Oh like an untucked short sleeve button up shirt or
[14:18] Speaker 5: along sleeve tucked in to do that. But we're not
[14:22] Speaker 5: wearing like dress shoes like there you know you're gonna
[14:23] Speaker 5: see some some renders, some orthotics, some new balance.
[14:30] Speaker 2: Definitely wearing your athotics.
[14:33] Speaker 6: Wow.
[14:34] Speaker 3: Well, it sounds like everyone's in for a wonderful Thanksgiving.
[14:38] Speaker 4: Damn, you know.
[14:39] Speaker 3: And I have to say, if you're out there and
[14:40] Speaker 3: you're like, I don't have family near, or I'm not
[14:43] Speaker 3: in a good place with family, or you feel alone.
[14:45] Speaker 3: I had Thanksgiving one year by myself. I made my
[14:48] Speaker 3: favorite meal for myself, I watched TV all day by myself,
[14:52] Speaker 3: and I had a wonderful day. I had some sadness
[14:55] Speaker 3: in the moment of thinking I'm supposed to be with
[14:58] Speaker 3: people in celebrating, but I was content and I realized
[15:02] Speaker 3: I was able to do things that I loved and
[15:06] Speaker 3: was like, hopefully next year I have a different experience.
[15:09] Speaker 4: But I'm just want to let you know if you're alone,
[15:12] Speaker 4: you're not alone.
[15:13] Speaker 3: And just because things look different than how maybe they've
[15:17] Speaker 3: looked in the past, or how it's supposed to look
[15:19] Speaker 3: on social media, and what you see like, you are alive,
[15:24] Speaker 3: You're loved, and I hope you at least get to
[15:27] Speaker 3: have one of your favorite meals.
[15:29] Speaker 2: Yeah and well said Becca.
[15:32] Speaker 3: With that, that is the end of our Thanksgiving special.
[15:36] Speaker 2: Happy Thanksgiving. We are thankful for all of you. We
[15:40] Speaker 2: love you so so much.
[15:41] Speaker 1: Could not be more thankful grateful, appreciative. We love you,
[15:45] Speaker 1: love you, love you, and hope you get to spend
