[2:33] Speaker 3: so much. You're so welcome. So if anybody. If tis now,
[2:37] Speaker 3: the time is now? If not now, when? Yeah?
[2:39] Speaker 4: Yeah it Taylor Jin can read who our Dear Friend?
[2:45] Speaker 4: I love your dear friend.
[2:48] Speaker 2: This is a book that feels like a glass of
[2:50] Speaker 2: water when you are parched. Thank you for writing it.
[2:53] Speaker 3: That's such a great.
[2:54] Speaker 4: Oh do you open it up to the dedication?
[2:57] Speaker 3: Oh no, oh yeah, let's let's let's just start it
[2:59] Speaker 3: with I brought the book. Then we've got hot pink pages.
[3:05] Speaker 4: Yeah, it's actually so beautiful. I've never book.
[3:08] Speaker 3: Why don't you read the dedication? Okay, I see it.
[3:12] Speaker 3: This book is dedicated to Becca.
[3:21] Speaker 4: Oh get that.
[3:23] Speaker 3: Falling in love with you has been the most rewarding
[3:26] Speaker 3: adventure of my life. Thank you for letting me share
[3:29] Speaker 3: a small ember of it. That's beautiful. Thank you so much. Yeah,
[3:38] Speaker 3: she loves it.
[3:38] Speaker 1: Starting strong, being like having a book dedicated to you
[3:42] Speaker 1: is like, that's so nice.
[3:43] Speaker 3: What better gift to receive?
[3:44] Speaker 4: Romantic? Yeah, she just like popped it in my face
[3:47] Speaker 4: one day and I was like, what.
[3:50] Speaker 5: I wanted to surprise her, but there was enough surprises
[3:53] Speaker 5: and she was going through a lot with surprise, so
[3:57] Speaker 5: I just was like, here, check this out.
[4:02] Speaker 2: Shall we talk about where do we begin the book
[4:04] Speaker 2: the concept of it, your your journey of writing.
[4:08] Speaker 3: Yeah, dear, what year did this begin?
[4:14] Speaker 5: Well, it's been years in the making. And I guess
[4:16] Speaker 5: we could start off with like, I'm a huge Pride
[4:18] Speaker 5: and Prejudice fan and I love period pieces, which is lol,
[4:22] Speaker 5: because Becca is not like a crazy period piece fans
[4:26] Speaker 5: my favorite.
[4:27] Speaker 3: So like, when she's out of town, I'll like binch Watch,
[4:29] Speaker 3: like you know, all the period pieces like Bridgerton. Yeah, yeah,
[4:32] Speaker 3: I love Bridgerton.
[4:33] Speaker 5: Yeah, I love I love anything with a really uncomfortable wardrobe,
[4:36] Speaker 5: you know what I mean. But so my dream was
[4:41] Speaker 5: to tell our story like our.
[4:44] Speaker 3: Use our meet cute as like the inspiration.
[4:46] Speaker 5: And as I was putting it together, it was interesting
[4:49] Speaker 5: because I was like, oh my gosh, Like my goal
[4:52] Speaker 5: in life is to create hopeful queer content, and there's
[4:56] Speaker 5: no way for this to end hopeful if it's in
[5:00] Speaker 5: like the actual like reality of the Victorian era. And
[5:04] Speaker 5: so as I was, you know, developing the story, I realized, Oh,
[5:10] Speaker 5: what if I do this like hyperreality kind of hyperrealism
[5:13] Speaker 5: thing where you can be queer, like you can be gay,
[5:17] Speaker 5: you can get married to a man or a woman,
[5:19] Speaker 5: but women are still not equal, and so two gay
[5:22] Speaker 5: men can inherit land and continue the family line, but
[5:25] Speaker 5: two gay women cannot, and so there's still pressure to
[5:28] Speaker 5: have you know, a son or an air to you
[5:32] Speaker 5: know leave.
[5:32] Speaker 3: So it is set in eighteen hundreds, but like a
[5:35] Speaker 3: in like a hyperreality.
[5:36] Speaker 5: Yeah, Like the short burst of the summary is I
[5:41] Speaker 5: think Pride and Prejudice meets Little Women set in a
[5:44] Speaker 5: queer hyperreality where men are where queer people can exist,
[5:48] Speaker 5: but women aren't equal.
[5:50] Speaker 3: Hyper reality is like not reality.
[5:52] Speaker 5: It's like it's excuse, It's like we're there's still carriages
[5:55] Speaker 5: and like the whole thing. But it's like, what if
[5:58] Speaker 5: I just kept asking myself if I was myself who
[6:01] Speaker 5: I am today and I lived in the Victorian era,
[6:04] Speaker 5: how would I exist and how would I thrive? And
[6:06] Speaker 5: how would I move about falling in love and like
[6:10] Speaker 5: having relationships and what would that look like if you
[6:12] Speaker 5: could just be openly a lesbian during that time.
[6:16] Speaker 3: So the two characters in this book is it Freya
[6:20] Speaker 3: is that you? Or is that Becca? That's inspired by Becca?
[6:23] Speaker 4: Okay?
[6:24] Speaker 3: And then Ivy is you?
[6:25] Speaker 1: Yes?
[6:26] Speaker 4: Okay?
[6:26] Speaker 1: So Ivy and Freya Ivan. If you're familiar with your
[6:30] Speaker 1: love story Haley and Becca. Right, well, we see it
[6:33] Speaker 1: mirrored in these characters there.
[6:35] Speaker 5: I was thinking about that there, yes, yes, yes, and no,
[6:39] Speaker 5: like I obviously hype of reality. Well, still, our love
[6:45] Speaker 5: story wasn't in the Victorian era, so things have to change.
[6:48] Speaker 5: But basically the story that I think most scrubbers have
[6:50] Speaker 5: heard is like when we met at Chateau Marmont.
[6:53] Speaker 3: Right, right, like trying to set Haley up with your vacancy.
[6:56] Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, the.
[6:57] Speaker 5: First time we met, and and and we got drinks
[7:01] Speaker 5: at chateau and my friend kept sending women over to
[7:05] Speaker 5: the table.
[7:05] Speaker 3: Did you hear about this we were getting do you
[7:08] Speaker 3: know us?
[7:09] Speaker 4: That's a really good part of the story that I
[7:11] Speaker 4: don't know if we've we've probably told it.
[7:13] Speaker 3: We can tell the story.
[7:14] Speaker 5: But basically that specific moment in our life, I basically
[7:21] Speaker 5: made a Victorian era version of that. And that's kind
[7:24] Speaker 5: of like the catapults of their relationships. So let's go
[7:28] Speaker 5: to the reality real So reality real quick is.
[7:32] Speaker 3: Reallysed for reality part. The reality part of.
[7:37] Speaker 5: It is is that obviously, back when I met at
[7:40] Speaker 5: No Vacancy and she was trying to set me up
[7:43] Speaker 5: with her younger sister.
[7:44] Speaker 3: Yes, and then the three of you were supposed to
[7:46] Speaker 3: get drinks together.
[7:49] Speaker 5: Like a group of people, and so we were going
[7:52] Speaker 5: to get drinks and she tells the story beout her
[7:55] Speaker 5: but we basically I was.
[7:57] Speaker 3: Panicked and I was like, oh my gosh, she's like
[7:59] Speaker 3: this famous person.
[8:00] Speaker 5: I have to like find this like bougie place to
[8:02] Speaker 5: take her because I don't really like go out to
[8:04] Speaker 5: get drinks. And so I called my friend. She ended
[8:06] Speaker 5: up being at the Chateau Marmm. She's like, i'll, you know,
[8:09] Speaker 5: give you a table. And so we met at chateau
[8:11] Speaker 5: and we spoke. We I mean, we hung out for
[8:14] Speaker 5: like four to six hours. We shut the place down.
[8:17] Speaker 5: But as we were getting our drinks and getting to
[8:20] Speaker 5: know each other, a woman comes up to the table
[8:23] Speaker 5: and she goes, why haven't you called me back? And
[8:26] Speaker 5: I look at her like deer in a headlight, like
[8:28] Speaker 5: what are you talking about. She's like, you've never called
[8:31] Speaker 5: me back, Like I'm really upset with you. And Becca's
[8:33] Speaker 5: staring at me and I'm like, oh my god. And
[8:36] Speaker 5: she walks away and I look at back and I'm like,
[8:38] Speaker 5: I literally don't know this person, Like I do not
[8:40] Speaker 5: know this person. An hour later or whatever it was.
[8:44] Speaker 5: Another girl comes up and I was like, why do
[8:46] Speaker 5: you call me back? And so my friend who had
[8:48] Speaker 5: set me up for the take the drinks, she was.
[8:51] Speaker 1: Doing it with me.
[8:53] Speaker 3: No, she's trying you look good. Maybe maybe it was
[8:55] Speaker 3: bad firing with Becca because she was like, oh my gosh,
[8:59] Speaker 3: she's a place.
[9:01] Speaker 4: And so setting her up with my sister, I'll show her.
[9:06] Speaker 4: So it was.
[9:07] Speaker 5: It was a wild moment where these like women kept
[9:10] Speaker 5: coming up to the table. But anyway, so that moment
[9:13] Speaker 5: in our life was I kind of like brought into this.
[9:19] Speaker 3: Book, how Ivy and Freya?
[9:21] Speaker 5: Yes, yes, And I guess getting into the book more
[9:25] Speaker 5: just to set up the scene. So Ivy again hyperreality
[9:30] Speaker 5: in the sense of like America's more progressive than Europe
[9:34] Speaker 5: at this time and England, and so Ivy and her
[9:37] Speaker 5: brother Prescott from America, they moved to England to find
[9:42] Speaker 5: him a wife because the only way to guarantee his
[9:45] Speaker 5: inheritance is to marry a woman in England, because our
[9:49] Speaker 5: father was from England. And so we meet the Talent
[9:52] Speaker 5: sisters and there's a bunch of sisters and a couple
[9:55] Speaker 5: of them are queer, and there's this character named Freya
[9:59] Speaker 5: and is one of the few sisters left to marry,
[10:05] Speaker 5: and so she has a lot of pressure to marry
[10:08] Speaker 5: a man because they need to continue the family line.
[10:12] Speaker 3: And so that's kind of the setup.
[10:13] Speaker 5: And so we go to England to kind of set
[10:16] Speaker 5: him up with one of the town sisters and then
[10:19] Speaker 5: my character ends up falling.
[10:20] Speaker 3: In love with her. How does it end.
[10:23] Speaker 4: You'll have to prove the buyer.
[10:27] Speaker 2: It doesn't end, but maybe that season two or book two, yeah,
[10:32] Speaker 2: book the sequel.
[10:34] Speaker 3: Yeah. So yeah, So that's kind of the setup of
[10:36] Speaker 3: of the story.
[10:37] Speaker 5: So it's like loosely based off of our meet cute
[10:40] Speaker 5: and then obviously it's been really you know, Beca's been
[10:42] Speaker 5: able to tell our story a lot, and so this
[10:45] Speaker 5: was kind of my way of telling my experience through
[10:49] Speaker 5: the character's eyes of Ivy and navigating you know, meeting
[10:55] Speaker 5: you know, these sisters and Freya and like having my
[10:58] Speaker 5: world turn up side down. And she's like this sapphog
[11:01] Speaker 5: poet in the Victorian era, and so she's like this
[11:05] Speaker 5: known lesbian poet, and so the younger sister like knows
[11:09] Speaker 5: of her. Like, so I was trying to find like
[11:10] Speaker 5: little things to like have little throwbacks. But but Yeah,
[11:15] Speaker 5: it's really fun.
[11:17] Speaker 3: It's really fun, and it's three hundred pages.
[11:21] Speaker 5: I think the fonts it's hya so the font you know,
[11:23] Speaker 5: it's a quick read why young adults, oh.
[11:29] Speaker 3: Words, So I appreciate, but yeah, it does have to
[11:33] Speaker 3: spoiler alert.
[11:34] Speaker 5: It does have a hopeful ending. And for me growing up,
[11:38] Speaker 5: all of our queer representation ended in like suicide or
[11:43] Speaker 5: death or like in love and like really having to
[11:47] Speaker 5: hide our relationship celebrated exactly. And so I was really
[11:51] Speaker 5: inspired by the concept of, like, Okay, what if you
[11:54] Speaker 5: could be gay, but you're still not equal as women,
[11:57] Speaker 5: and you're still struggling to to thrive in an economy
[12:02] Speaker 5: in a world, and so what does that look like
[12:05] Speaker 5: and how do you find your joy and happiness? When
[12:09] Speaker 5: maybe I also liked the idea of like, you know,
[12:12] Speaker 5: I think everyone can, whether you're queer or not, anyone
[12:15] Speaker 5: can relate to this love story because I think every
[12:18] Speaker 5: single person is born with parents who have expectations of
[12:22] Speaker 5: who they're going to end up with, right, whether it's
[12:24] Speaker 5: your religion, whether it's your culture, whether it's your background,
[12:27] Speaker 5: and it always it's always gonna be challenging to navigate
[12:32] Speaker 5: regardless of those expectations and the disappointments, and so I
[12:36] Speaker 5: also really loved having just something so relatable in that
[12:40] Speaker 5: sense where you can pick this up and read it
[12:42] Speaker 5: and see yourself in it, and sometimes you know, the
[12:44] Speaker 5: happy ending isn't like everything works out. The happy ending
[12:48] Speaker 5: is like, we're going to figure this out together and
[12:51] Speaker 5: we're going to like persevere through the hardships.
[12:55] Speaker 1: I do think it's super relatable, you know, stepping outside
[12:58] Speaker 1: of the queer community, like I was saying, I also
[13:01] Speaker 1: experienced some of that, Like I never thought in a
[13:02] Speaker 1: million years I would end up.
[13:04] Speaker 3: With a divorced Jewish dad, you know what I mean.
[13:08] Speaker 3: And so it's just I think it is going to
[13:11] Speaker 3: be really relatable to a lot of people.
[13:12] Speaker 2: Yeah, I think the whole concept is like, outside of
[13:16] Speaker 2: being queer, there's so many other things that people navigate
[13:20] Speaker 2: to be together and that they have to go through
[13:23] Speaker 2: with family or expectations or whatever that leads to that
[13:26] Speaker 2: decision of are we doing this together or are we
[13:29] Speaker 2: gonna wonder what if for the rest of our lives?
[13:32] Speaker 2: Like take obviously this is focused on queer a queer
[13:35] Speaker 2: love story, but I do think a lot of people
[13:38] Speaker 2: can resonate with like differences of religion and beliefs everything.
[13:43] Speaker 4: You're going on a book tour, I am, I'm not going.
[13:46] Speaker 3: To Ye, it's a big deal. Not everybody gets a
[13:55] Speaker 3: book tour.
[13:55] Speaker 5: This is my first book tour because my last the
[13:59] Speaker 5: last book that came out, Girls Like Girls, I was
[14:01] Speaker 5: already on tour, like for my music tour, and so
[14:04] Speaker 5: I was doing these like meet and greets every night,
[14:06] Speaker 5: and so I didn't really get to do an official
[14:08] Speaker 5: book tour. So this is like my first one, which
[14:10] Speaker 5: I'm really excited. We're going to New York, Chicago, Berkeley,
[14:15] Speaker 5: and then we ended in LA.
[14:17] Speaker 3: Yeah, we should go to the LA one. You should
[14:19] Speaker 3: definitely if you know, if you're in town, you should
[14:21] Speaker 3: come to the LA. What days the one is it?
[14:23] Speaker 3: The Barnes and Noble the Grove.
[14:24] Speaker 2: November seventh is lah, November six is Berkeley, Wednesday November
[14:30] Speaker 2: fifth is Chicago, and Tuesday November fourth is New York City.
[14:33] Speaker 3: Nice.
[14:34] Speaker 2: Ye, So if all of our scrubbers, we know that
[14:38] Speaker 2: y'all be showing up for things, So if y'all are
[14:41] Speaker 2: in the area any.
[14:42] Speaker 4: Of these dates, yeah, I'll be.
[14:45] Speaker 5: I think I think the scrubbers have like a one
[14:48] Speaker 5: up reading this book because they know they know much
[14:50] Speaker 5: about relationship, and so I think like it's going to
[14:54] Speaker 5: have like this Easter egg energy for them. I'm really
[14:57] Speaker 5: excited to hear their thoughts on it, because I'm really
[15:01] Speaker 5: really proud of this book and this has been something
[15:03] Speaker 5: I've been wanting to do for a really long time.
[15:05] Speaker 3: And yeah, you should be so proud.
[15:09] Speaker 1: Thank you.
[15:10] Speaker 5: Staring at it, it's like gorgeous, Like it has like
[15:14] Speaker 5: hints of Wicked colors, but like we love Wicked, so
[15:16] Speaker 5: there you go.
[15:17] Speaker 3: I didn't make that until now. There are different shades.
[15:21] Speaker 2: Number two, I mean, movie number two is coming out.
[15:24] Speaker 2: There's a lot of pink and green.
[15:25] Speaker 3: There's a lot of pink and green energy right now.
[15:44] Speaker 2: When you write stories, are you already conceptualizing TV or
[15:51] Speaker 2: movie when you're when you're working on the I know
[15:53] Speaker 2: the answer.
[15:55] Speaker 3: Yes, we didn't rehearse this by the no no, no, no,
[15:59] Speaker 3: This is all I know.
[16:00] Speaker 5: She's gonna ask no, Like I you know, Girls Like
[16:03] Speaker 5: Girls obviously was like a ten year journey into getting
[16:06] Speaker 5: the film green lit, And a lot of the reason
[16:10] Speaker 5: why I got green lit was because I, you know,
[16:13] Speaker 5: made girls and Girls into a ya and then became
[16:15] Speaker 5: a New York Times.
[16:16] Speaker 3: Best seller, and so that helped push So a lot
[16:18] Speaker 3: of these.
[16:18] Speaker 1: Like films and television shows you're seeing a lot of
[16:21] Speaker 1: them are inspired by books, and that seems to be
[16:24] Speaker 1: the best path forward for Hollywood and quotations for IP.
[16:28] Speaker 1: And so when I was developing this story and writing
[16:32] Speaker 1: this story, I one hundred percent was thinking, like.
[16:35] Speaker 3: I would love for this to be a TV show,
[16:37] Speaker 3: or like it'd have to be a.
[16:38] Speaker 5: Really long movie if it was a movie, like I
[16:40] Speaker 5: need like two and a half hours kind of vibe
[16:43] Speaker 5: because they're just so much like Juicy, you know, stories
[16:47] Speaker 5: and plots. But I would love to make it into
[16:51] Speaker 5: a TV show and then maybe like the next season,
[16:53] Speaker 5: you follow another character. Oh there's another really cool place
[16:56] Speaker 5: in the book called the Bridge, which is like the
[16:59] Speaker 5: West Hollywood of.
[17:02] Speaker 3: You know, the Victoria era exactly.
[17:05] Speaker 5: And so once a month, like they all meet at
[17:07] Speaker 5: the Bridge and like everyone just gets to celebrate and
[17:10] Speaker 5: like there's like boats, and it's really like a magical
[17:14] Speaker 5: like the parade.
[17:15] Speaker 3: Yeah, like just like kind of like a Pride.
[17:18] Speaker 5: Night, but like once a month and everyone comes together,
[17:21] Speaker 5: and so you know, maybe in future seasons I could
[17:23] Speaker 5: follow another character, But I just love world building, and
[17:28] Speaker 5: I was really excited to challenge myself more because like
[17:31] Speaker 5: Girls Like Girls was from like my youth, like high school,
[17:34] Speaker 5: and so it was really fun to get to be
[17:36] Speaker 5: inspired by the love that I have today and beyond,
[17:41] Speaker 5: and so that was like really cool to kind of
[17:44] Speaker 5: challenge myself a bit more, to see, like what would
[17:47] Speaker 5: it be like if Ray and Ivy like existed in
[17:49] Speaker 5: the Victorian era, and like what would happen?
[17:52] Speaker 3: What happened to us?
[17:53] Speaker 2: You mentioned your directorial debut, Girls Like Girls, coming out.
[18:00] Speaker 1: I haven't gotten an official date, but I'm hoping next year,
[18:04] Speaker 1: twenty six yes, and any day in that year, yes, hopefully.
[18:08] Speaker 3: Yeah, sooner than later.
[18:10] Speaker 2: When you wrote Girls Like Girls in twenty fifteen, or
[18:14] Speaker 2: you wrote it in twenty fourteen.
[18:16] Speaker 5: Relased the music video on twenty fifteen, and then I said,
[18:19] Speaker 5: didn't start writing till later, So.
[18:20] Speaker 2: No, I know, but I'm talking about the music video.
[18:22] Speaker 2: What the conceptual? Yeah, the Girls Like Girls conception. Yeah,
[18:26] Speaker 2: you were not in the video.
[18:29] Speaker 4: I was not on purpose. Yes, why.
[18:32] Speaker 3: I wasn't in.
[18:35] Speaker 5: The Girls Like Girls music video because I it was
[18:38] Speaker 5: like my coming out and so it was like my
[18:42] Speaker 5: half ass of coming out without putting my face on
[18:45] Speaker 5: it because I was nervous and.
[18:47] Speaker 1: So really yes, and so I was too scared. It's
[18:52] Speaker 1: so hard for me to picture that now, I know
[18:55] Speaker 1: I was like too scared.
[18:56] Speaker 5: But then like I had the amazing Stephanie Scott and
[19:00] Speaker 5: Kelsey Asville and they were the stars of the music video.
[19:05] Speaker 5: And so it was really cool to be able to
[19:07] Speaker 5: direct to the film for Girls Like Girls because I
[19:10] Speaker 5: was able to reclaim my space in that. And I
[19:14] Speaker 5: think that goes that's connected to not feeling represented in
[19:19] Speaker 5: the Victorian era, right, like growing up being like, oh
[19:21] Speaker 5: my gosh, I'll never book a role like in the
[19:23] Speaker 5: eighteen hundreds or like because of just what I look like.
[19:26] Speaker 5: And so I think going through this Girl's Like Girls
[19:29] Speaker 5: experience was a really beautiful, like full circle moment where again,
[19:34] Speaker 5: like you said, it's crazy, I was so scared to
[19:36] Speaker 5: put myself in the music video and like have my
[19:38] Speaker 5: face in it, and like that was terrifying for me.
[19:42] Speaker 3: How long was that process for you?
[19:44] Speaker 2: Like?
[19:44] Speaker 3: Were you okay? So you you knew that about yourself?
[19:47] Speaker 1: You said, I knew I was scared since I was
[19:49] Speaker 1: like five or six, but this was your half you
[19:51] Speaker 1: said half ass. I would say I was attached to
[19:55] Speaker 1: the song in the sense of, like, maybe if I
[19:58] Speaker 1: were to do it over again, I would have myself
[20:00] Speaker 1: in the video. So you were you said five six
[20:03] Speaker 1: when you knew yeah, yeah, yeah? And then when how
[20:06] Speaker 1: old were you when you like really put your face
[20:08] Speaker 1: and name and everything out?
[20:10] Speaker 5: Well, I mean that was twenty fifteen. Girls like girls,
[20:12] Speaker 5: I like, I was how old in the music video?
[20:14] Speaker 1: But it was like my song that I wrote because
[20:16] Speaker 1: I feel like I remember when you and Becca first
[20:18] Speaker 1: started dating. I was so I admired so much how
[20:23] Speaker 1: patient you were with Becca throughout that whole process, because
[20:26] Speaker 1: I was like, oh my gosh, Like if I were Haley,
[20:30] Speaker 1: I it would be so hard for me, like with
[20:32] Speaker 1: how you guys were doing things in the beginning. But
[20:34] Speaker 1: I was like, I think you obviously can relate to
[20:36] Speaker 1: what Becca was going through because you had your own
[20:38] Speaker 1: journey through it.
[20:39] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[20:39] Speaker 5: I mean we've had totally different upbringings, but I can
[20:42] Speaker 5: relate in the sense of, like, you're ready when you're ready, right,
[20:46] Speaker 5: you know, And it's really scary to like just know
[20:49] Speaker 5: who you are and then also be like what are
[20:51] Speaker 5: people going to say? And it's so crazy to look
[20:54] Speaker 5: at my career that like that Girls Like Girls in
[20:57] Speaker 5: twenty fifteen, me speaking my truth would finally be have
[21:02] Speaker 5: a whole career because I was like, this is who
[21:04] Speaker 5: I am, and then all of a sudden, I'm finding
[21:06] Speaker 5: all these people going, oh my gosh, I feel the
[21:08] Speaker 5: same way.
[21:09] Speaker 3: And that's why Girls Like Girls was so powerful.
[21:11] Speaker 5: It is because we don't get to see women be
[21:14] Speaker 5: together and like win and like thrive in culture and
[21:18] Speaker 5: in spaces, and so as soon as I started doing that,
[21:21] Speaker 5: I was like, oh my gosh, My whole purpose in
[21:23] Speaker 5: life is to create hopeful career content to kind of
[21:27] Speaker 5: fill you know, when I when I'm like building my
[21:30] Speaker 5: decks for like music videos, or even when I was
[21:32] Speaker 5: doing the film, when there's this thing called shot Deck
[21:36] Speaker 5: and you go on and you like, you know, it's
[21:39] Speaker 5: like it's kind of like a pinterest for like cinema, okay,
[21:42] Speaker 5: like a mood board, and you have such limited amounts
[21:46] Speaker 5: of films to choose from to be able to put
[21:48] Speaker 5: together a vision for like women loving women's stories. Oh interesting,
[21:54] Speaker 5: and so like my goal in life is to be
[21:56] Speaker 5: able to fill up that void. So when you go
[21:59] Speaker 5: on shot Deck, you're like, oh my gosh, do I
[22:01] Speaker 5: take this image? Or do I take this image right now?
[22:04] Speaker 5: You're just like, so, I mean, you have like so
[22:07] Speaker 5: few images to work with because there's so many, there's
[22:11] Speaker 5: very little. I mean, it took me ten years to
[22:13] Speaker 5: get Girls like Girls made. It's just two girls falling
[22:15] Speaker 5: in love and ends in hope, and that took ten years. Yeah,
[22:18] Speaker 5: and it's never been made before.
[22:20] Speaker 3: That's wild. Yeah, and it's twenty twenty five.
[22:23] Speaker 5: And so that was my goal with Where There's Room
[22:25] Speaker 5: for Us is like I wanted to be inspired by
[22:28] Speaker 5: our love story and then bring it into a even
[22:31] Speaker 5: bigger world and find a way to maybe hopefully get
[22:34] Speaker 5: this made to be brought on to our screen so
[22:36] Speaker 5: people can be like, oh my gosh, I look like her,
[22:39] Speaker 5: Like I can succeed in life, you know, just representation
[22:43] Speaker 5: as a whole.
[22:45] Speaker 3: Where did a title come from?
[22:47] Speaker 2: So?
[22:48] Speaker 3: Where there's room for us? The great question?
[22:52] Speaker 5: I think for me, it's always like creating space and
[22:56] Speaker 5: like wanting to have space.
[22:57] Speaker 3: And so I liked the idea of a title of
[22:59] Speaker 3: having some thing of like where there's room for us,
[23:01] Speaker 3: of like, like, even when.
[23:03] Speaker 5: There's space, how do we fill up that space, and
[23:06] Speaker 5: how do we thrive in that space and how do
[23:08] Speaker 5: we take ownership in that space.
[23:10] Speaker 1: It's really interesting when you said, like, I don't know
[23:13] Speaker 1: what you call it in the movie world, but you
[23:15] Speaker 1: the Pinterest thing and not having a shot deck, not
[23:17] Speaker 1: having the amount of images to choose from and stuff
[23:20] Speaker 1: like that's so that's just so crazy. I feel like
[23:23] Speaker 1: when I was I didn't really use Pinterest, but anytime
[23:24] Speaker 1: I would type in anything that I needed, it was like.
[23:26] Speaker 3: It was there, right there, right there. Yeah.
[23:28] Speaker 5: And so imagine like as creators and filmmakers and authors,
[23:32] Speaker 5: and it's like you're trying to create something that hasn't
[23:35] Speaker 5: existed yet, and then you're trying to it makes it
[23:38] Speaker 5: super challenging because you're trying to prove to companies and
[23:42] Speaker 5: studios and people with lots of money that your idea
[23:46] Speaker 5: is a good idea and it's never been done yeah,
[23:49] Speaker 5: or there's no proof of concepts. And like that's why
[23:52] Speaker 5: writing books has been like such a freeing moment for
[23:56] Speaker 5: me because I can just like do what I want
[23:59] Speaker 5: and take it wherever I want without anyone else yeah,
[24:02] Speaker 5: telling me, oh, we can't afford this scene, or we
[24:04] Speaker 5: can't afford this or we can't do it here. It's
[24:07] Speaker 5: like no, like I can have the place called the
[24:10] Speaker 5: Bridge with lanterns and boats and you know, like meadows
[24:14] Speaker 5: and lavender fields, like I can do it all. And
[24:17] Speaker 5: this has been the most freeing medium in my life.
[24:20] Speaker 4: I think, do you have a dream cast for where
[24:24] Speaker 4: that could do?
[24:26] Speaker 2: No?
[24:29] Speaker 3: What that would be the day. I don't have a
[24:34] Speaker 3: dream past because like it could take like I don't know.
[24:37] Speaker 2: I'm just saying if it were to get mad, if
[24:40] Speaker 2: it were to get made in the speedy sense next.
[24:44] Speaker 3: Year, I haven't thought about that. Actually, really, that's like
[24:48] Speaker 3: the first thing I thought about.
[24:49] Speaker 5: Well, I guess I don't. I'm very like, once I
[24:52] Speaker 5: have an idea, I have to do it and it
[24:54] Speaker 5: has to happen. And so I try to not lock
[24:57] Speaker 5: myself into an exact vision because once I do it,
[25:01] Speaker 5: like if I were to be like it needs to
[25:03] Speaker 5: be whatever Margo, Robbie or whatever, if it didn't happen,
[25:08] Speaker 5: it could never happen.
[25:10] Speaker 4: Yeah, well she has.
[25:16] Speaker 3: She had.
[25:19] Speaker 4: There good answer, just like we rehearsed.
[25:23] Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[25:25] Speaker 4: I feel like.
[25:26] Speaker 2: When we see like we obviously see you on the
[25:29] Speaker 2: podcast and people get to know you, but I do
[25:31] Speaker 2: feel like your social media you have really allowed people
[25:34] Speaker 2: to come in and see more of your personality.
[25:37] Speaker 3: Thank you. I'm trying.
[25:38] Speaker 2: Has that been challenging because I feel I have this
[25:41] Speaker 2: theory that people who are in the industry as like
[25:43] Speaker 2: actors or uh, celebrities, that there's this sense of need
[25:48] Speaker 2: to be perfect in terms of how they're presented. Did
[25:51] Speaker 2: you experience like I know that we've talked about you
[25:53] Speaker 2: experiencing that need of like everything needs to like be perfect.
[25:58] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[25:58] Speaker 5: I think, like, well, during the pandemic, I just like
[26:02] Speaker 5: I stopped posting a lot, and so it's taken like
[26:05] Speaker 5: years to kind of like get back because I used to,
[26:07] Speaker 5: like I mean when I was like fifteen, I was
[26:09] Speaker 5: like YouTube vlogging being likely and I'm getting on the
[26:13] Speaker 5: plane and here I am, And I don't know if
[26:16] Speaker 5: it's like getting older too. I also think like we
[26:19] Speaker 5: had such a private life for so long, so that
[26:23] Speaker 5: just like became like my normal and like my comfort.
[26:26] Speaker 5: But I am trying to like share more of like
[26:29] Speaker 5: my goofy side and me not being able to say
[26:33] Speaker 5: eyes yes if you've seen our TikTok. But I think
[26:38] Speaker 5: that's what was really fun about writing this book is
[26:40] Speaker 5: like kind of navigating, you know, it just have like
[26:45] Speaker 5: hints of my my perspective and my experience through this
[26:49] Speaker 5: book and like navigating entering a new space and meeting
[26:54] Speaker 5: someone that's like so different from me, and and finding
[26:59] Speaker 5: a way to just like make sure that we end
[27:01] Speaker 5: up together.
[27:02] Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't think.
[27:03] Speaker 2: I mean, we don't talk about it a lot, but
[27:05] Speaker 2: we had to navigate a lot of things in our relationship.
[27:09] Speaker 2: And we've been together, you know, seven and a half years,
[27:13] Speaker 2: and there's been so crazy, a lot of hardships and
[27:17] Speaker 2: navigating like really hard conversations not only with each other
[27:20] Speaker 2: but with other people, and Haley, I have to say, like,
[27:23] Speaker 2: through it all, I don't know anything different, but I
[27:25] Speaker 2: realized how fortunate I was to have a partner who
[27:28] Speaker 2: was so patient. And also there were a few things
[27:31] Speaker 2: where I may have been like I'm out, amout yeah yeah,
[27:37] Speaker 2: yeah yeah, And it really is a testament to how
[27:40] Speaker 2: much how much you love me and our relationship and
[27:44] Speaker 2: wanted to be with me, and how much I wanted
[27:47] Speaker 2: to be with you. But I'm glad, like there's you
[27:49] Speaker 2: know that you have a way of expressing that because
[27:51] Speaker 2: there was a lot of time in our life that
[27:54] Speaker 2: was private before we came out publicly that it was hard.
[28:00] Speaker 5: I mean I think when you're well, right back at you, babe,
[28:02] Speaker 5: because you could have also been like, see, yah, this
[28:06] Speaker 5: is too hard. But I think it goes back to like,
[28:09] Speaker 5: you know, you meet someone and like they might have
[28:13] Speaker 5: a totally different upbringing or they might have a totally
[28:15] Speaker 5: different religion or culture, and it's like you're navigating, Okay.
[28:20] Speaker 3: What are my boundaries?
[28:21] Speaker 5: Like what do I need in a partner, and like
[28:23] Speaker 5: can this person be come from a totally different world
[28:26] Speaker 5: than my world?
[28:27] Speaker 3: And like how do we meet?
[28:29] Speaker 5: And also it's kind of like in Us against the
[28:31] Speaker 5: World's kind of thing too, where it's like how do
[28:33] Speaker 5: you navigate your love and also navigate all the other
[28:36] Speaker 5: relationships that have expectations, whether it's family or friends, Like
[28:41] Speaker 5: people always have something to say, and so it's just
[28:43] Speaker 5: like navigating a new relationship, navigating all of all of
[28:48] Speaker 5: these people's like feelings and thoughts on your relationship, and
[28:52] Speaker 5: then like reclaiming your relationship and being like this is
[28:55] Speaker 5: our relationship and like if you're good, then I'm good,
[28:58] Speaker 5: and then the rest we'll figure out.
[29:01] Speaker 1: Yeah, I think there's something so beautiful about being with
[29:04] Speaker 1: someone like a partner that is from totally a different background,
[29:08] Speaker 1: because like I mean, I just I can't imagine being
[29:14] Speaker 1: with someone that's exactly or is exactly like me.
[29:17] Speaker 3: Well, it challenges you, It challenges you too, but.
[29:19] Speaker 1: It's such a beautiful thing to like learn and accept
[29:23] Speaker 1: and grow and like experience new things. And I don't know,
[29:27] Speaker 1: I just think it's like it's a beautiful way to
[29:30] Speaker 1: experience life.
[29:31] Speaker 5: Yeah, And I but I think it takes courage, Like
[29:34] Speaker 5: and I think we live in a society that encourages familiarity,
[29:38] Speaker 5: encourages sameness, right, and just being like, you know, that's
[29:44] Speaker 5: what's easy, right, And so it takes a lot of
[29:46] Speaker 5: courage to be like, oh I haven't thought of it
[29:49] Speaker 5: that way, or oh, like there's another way to live,
[29:51] Speaker 5: or oh there's another way to be centered, or there's
[29:53] Speaker 5: another way to think about this, and so you know,
[29:57] Speaker 5: but that takes strength and not being a narcissist. So
[30:04] Speaker 5: self awareness is really key, it is, it is.
[30:07] Speaker 1: Yeah, But so with narcissism, there's like a lot of
[30:09] Speaker 1: narcissists out there, and I think it's like.
[30:11] Speaker 5: Eighty twenty we're in a world of about eighty percent narcist.
[30:15] Speaker 3: Yes, and you guys are not in it, so congratulations.
[30:19] Speaker 2: Yeah, we work hard at that, not being narcissists. But yeah,
[30:22] Speaker 2: I feel like I'm just so proud of you. I'm
[30:25] Speaker 2: proud of us, I'm proud of our love and I'm
[30:27] Speaker 2: so I mean, reading your intro of all the things
[30:30] Speaker 2: you do is like it's it's so interesting because I'm
[30:34] Speaker 2: so familiar with it and I'm in it with you
[30:37] Speaker 2: and like the creativity and the process of it.
[30:40] Speaker 4: But when I when I'm reading it from this perspective,
[30:43] Speaker 4: I'm like, whoa, she does a lot. It's so impressive.
[30:47] Speaker 3: It really is so impressive. Like I'm.
[30:51] Speaker 1: Everything else aside just writing a three hundred page novel
[30:55] Speaker 1: is so hard, and I'm so proud of you, and
[31:00] Speaker 1: it looks beautiful and I do I want to manifest
[31:03] Speaker 1: and I hope that you that this can become like.
[31:07] Speaker 4: Your time New York. Yeah, there, Cellar.
[31:13] Speaker 3: But also I could see it becoming like a Netflix binge.
[31:17] Speaker 3: Yeah we a binge, we get another binge? Yeah, like
[31:20] Speaker 3: a girly pop binge.
[31:25] Speaker 1: Tanya will be directing it, Yeah, I could be in
[31:28] Speaker 1: charge of the soundtrack exactly.
[31:31] Speaker 2: Why so Tanya wrote a song and she wanted to
[31:36] Speaker 2: present it to you, but we're going to take a
[31:38] Speaker 2: break and we'll be right back, all right. So in
[32:00] Speaker 2: Monday's episode, Tanya was sharing a song that she has
[32:05] Speaker 2: written herself, and she performed a little snippet of it
[32:08] Speaker 2: on that podcast and then I thought, wow, you should
[32:12] Speaker 2: you should sing it, Na Haley, just to get any feedback.
[32:18] Speaker 2: And the floor is yours stle.
[32:21] Speaker 3: Where those room for us. It feels like there's a
[32:25] Speaker 3: sacrifice involved. Both parties have to sacrifice, sacrifice for love.
[32:34] Speaker 3: It's a thankless job.
[32:36] Speaker 1: You run off and do what you want, sacrifice for love.
[32:45] Speaker 3: But should the other one sacrifice too? Should it fades out?
[32:58] Speaker 5: That wasn't really beautifl and I loved that you were
[33:01] Speaker 5: staring into my eyes the entire time, no blinking necessary.
[33:06] Speaker 3: I feel like I'm on Like that felt intimate. Yeah,
[33:09] Speaker 3: thank you, Tanya. That was beautiful. You're welcome.
[33:13] Speaker 4: Well yeah, I mean would you turn your chair around? Yeah?
[33:16] Speaker 3: Absolutely? Yeah, absolutely, I'd be like, what is that song? Yeah? Wow,
[33:29] Speaker 3: we'll talk, Yeah, we'll talk people maybe yeah, viol violin
[33:34] Speaker 3: A violent version of that would be really lovely Victorian era, Yeah,
[33:38] Speaker 3: that would be absolutely stunning.
[33:45] Speaker 4: So we did get engaged almost four months ago.
[33:49] Speaker 3: Wow, that's wild. I know, time flies. Time flies when
[33:53] Speaker 3: you're having fun.
[33:54] Speaker 2: And the people are, you know, curious, Well they got
[33:58] Speaker 2: some curious. They're so curious about it's serious. What the
[34:02] Speaker 2: next plans are? Okay, the next steps?
[34:05] Speaker 4: I don't know if there's anything you'd want to share.
[34:07] Speaker 3: Oh, is there something you want to share?
[34:10] Speaker 4: I don't have anything to share.
[34:11] Speaker 3: I hope to be proposed to. You are going to
[34:16] Speaker 3: I'm relaxed now.
[34:19] Speaker 4: Oh, you're just relaxing too.
[34:21] Speaker 2: No.
[34:21] Speaker 5: I mean, like, you know, once you put a ring
[34:23] Speaker 5: on it, then we'll get the ball, get the ball
[34:26] Speaker 5: rolling on plans and stuff. But I've heard from many
[34:30] Speaker 5: people to have a long engagement because they said it's
[34:33] Speaker 5: like such an amazing like chapter and so you know,
[34:37] Speaker 5: I'm enjoying that. No, I'm really enjoying my fiance, I say.
[34:42] Speaker 5: And if you get to the end of the book,

[36:01] Speaker 5: Well, depending on the city, there's uh, there's met and
[36:05] Speaker 5: greets at every city, I believe, and then there's Q
[36:08] Speaker 5: and a's in a couple of the cities.
[36:10] Speaker 3: Uh. So that's what you should expect. Unfortunately, no like
[36:14] Speaker 3: concert performance, you know, no acoustic performance a recession.
[36:17] Speaker 5: Sorry, all right, I'm really excited. It's just like so
[36:22] Speaker 5: lonely online sometimes and so I'm so excited to see

[36:30] Speaker 5: my people.
[36:30] Speaker 4: Haley's very much needs social interaction.
[36:33] Speaker 3: I don't.
[36:34] Speaker 2: But she like if we are just in the house

[36:50] Speaker 1: to go to dinner or like a No, I need
[36:52] Speaker 1: to leave the house once a day. Yes, and Becca
[36:55] Speaker 1: could be in the house for three plus days with
[36:59] Speaker 1: seeing with no oxygen, no fresh air, and then nothing
[37:02] Speaker 1: stop outside.
[37:04] Speaker 3: Yeah, but you don't have to.
[37:06] Speaker 4: I don't have to, but I do.
[37:08] Speaker 3: It's crazy.
[37:08] Speaker 5: It is a really impressive thing, very like bare hibernation energy.
[37:16] Speaker 2: That's how I recover. But she gives a lot of
[37:18] Speaker 2: comfort from socializing. Yeah, like if I socialize, I need
[37:23] Speaker 2: to recover.
[37:24] Speaker 4: Yeah, if you got on.
[37:25] Speaker 3: A Friday, you best believe Saturday, Sunday, Monday, she done.

[37:31] Speaker 2: But she had to get up and go do something
[37:33] Speaker 2: and that was herding. She's fulfilled that she had an outing.
[37:36] Speaker 1: Yeah, I understand that I can't sit. I can't watch

[37:48] Speaker 1: watch daily. No, it's like something where you can't watch
[37:51] Speaker 1: TV during the day because it's no because you feel
[37:54] Speaker 1: bad because you should be like seizing the day.
[37:57] Speaker 5: Oh, I have that, but not a TV thing. I
[38:00] Speaker 5: just have that as like a baseline. Yeah, like I
[38:03] Speaker 5: have to go seize the day or like do something
[38:05] Speaker 5: like I cannot if I want. Even there's a show
[38:07] Speaker 5: that I love and I have the afternoon, I can
[38:09] Speaker 5: watch it at two pm. I will not watch until
[38:11] Speaker 5: like six. Really, yeah, it's sick we.

[38:23] Speaker 3: still have to have my outing.
[38:25] Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, yeah, I was speaking thinking about talking about
[38:29] Speaker 2: no acoustic performance because it's a recession. But are you
[38:32] Speaker 2: people I get dms all the time about you making
