Keep winning! Two-time Emmy and Three-time NAACP Image Award-winning, television Executive Producer Rushion McDonald interviewed Coach Kay Thompson. Shared her journey from corporate layoffs and financial hardship to becoming a seven-figure business coach and digital revenue strategist. The conversation focused on helping professionals, entrepreneurs, and subject matter experts identify, package, and monetize their knowledge through digital assets, AI-powered tools, courses, and online education. Her core message was simple: most people are sitting on valuable expertise they have never recognized as a business opportunity. Purpose of the Interview The interview was designed to: • Educate listeners on how to turn expertise into income. • Show entrepreneurs how to create scalable digital assets. • Demonstrate how AI can help organize and monetize knowledge. • Inspire professionals to build additional income streams beyond their jobs. • Share Coach Kay's personal story of resilience and entrepreneurship. • Promote financial independence through ownership, education, and innovation. Key Takeaways 1. Your Knowledge Has Value Many people underestimate the value of their experience because it feels routine to them. Coach Kay believes that knowledge gained through work, education, and life experiences can be packaged into products that help others solve problems. Examples include: • E-books • Online courses • Workshops • Membership programs • Digital toolkits • AI-powered resources 2. Stop Trading Time for Money One of her strongest messages was that entrepreneurs often get paid only when they are actively working. Creating digital assets allows people to earn income without constantly exchanging hours for dollars. 3. Serve the Person You Used to Be Coach Kay encourages clients to teach the lessons they've already learned. The fastest path to building a business is often helping someone overcome a challenge you've already solved yourself. 4. AI Creates New Business Opportunities She discussed how artificial intelligence can help entrepreneurs organize their expertise, create content, develop digital products, and scale their businesses more efficiently. 5. Adversity Can Become Opportunity Before becoming an entrepreneur, Coach Kay worked in banking. After being laid off, she faced major financial setbacks, including bankruptcy, eviction, and repossession. Those experiences motivated her to build a business that she owned and controlled. 6. Multiple Income Streams Are Essential She stressed the importance of developing additional sources of revenue outside a traditional job and making productive use of time outside working hours. 7. Marketing and Mentorship Matter Coach Kay introduced her "M&M Method": • Mentorship • Marketing She believes entrepreneurs need both guidance and visibility to grow successfully. 8. Organic Marketing Still Works Rather than relying heavily on paid advertising, she attributes much of her success to: • Authentic storytelling • Live social media engagement • Relationship building • Consistent content creation 9. Build Impact, Not Just Attention She repeatedly emphasized creating meaningful change for others rather than focusing solely on personal recognition. 10. Continuous Learning Is Critical Despite her success, Coach Kay described herself as a lifelong student who invests in mentorship and education to continue growing personally and professionally. [0:34] Speaker 1: My guest is a digital revenue strategist, seven-figure business coach,
[0:38] Speaker 1: and business architect specializing in development, monetization, and scaling of
[0:43] Speaker 1: digital assets. She works with professionals, entrepreneurs, and subject matter
[0:48] Speaker 1: experts to transform their knowledge into structured revenue-generating ecosystems. Please
[0:53] Speaker 1: welcome to Money Making Conversations Masterclass, Coach Kay Thompson. How
[0:57] Speaker 1: you doing, Coach Kay Thompson?
[0:58] Speaker 2: I'm doing good. How you feeling?
[1:00] Speaker 1: I'm feeling good. You know, like I said, I've never
[1:03] Speaker 1: been in an athletic or sporting arena. That's why you
[1:07] Speaker 1: use the word coaches. But in the world of motivation,
[1:11] Speaker 1: in the world of strategies, financial planning, coach seems to
[1:14] Speaker 1: be popping up more and more. Why are you called
[1:17] Speaker 1: Coach Kay Thompson?
[1:18] Speaker 2: Absolutely. Because my whole goal is to track and shift performance.
[1:22] Speaker 2: increase better behavior, right? So I want you to really
[1:25] Speaker 2: have a good outcome, a transformation, right? When we think
[1:28] Speaker 2: about the good coaches, even in the sporting world with
[1:31] Speaker 2: Kobe Bryant and all the big ones, they had somebody
[1:33] Speaker 2: who improved them from zero to a hundred. And so
[1:37] Speaker 2: that's what my goal is to take that person from
[1:39] Speaker 2: where I find them and shape them and mold them
[1:41] Speaker 2: and give them a better transformation.
[1:43] Speaker 1: Okay. Now, what is the steps to that? Because like
[1:45] Speaker 1: I said, I laid out a lot of things. I
[1:47] Speaker 1: talk about You know, you work for professionals, entrepreneurs. Let's
[1:51] Speaker 1: talk about professionals.
[1:52] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[1:52] Speaker 1: How do you work with professionals?
[1:54] Speaker 2: Absolutely.
[1:54] Speaker 1: Coach Kate Thompson.
[1:55] Speaker 2: So I like to help entrepreneurs, right, take their zone
[1:58] Speaker 2: of genius or even professionals in the careers. take their
[2:01] Speaker 2: zone of genius and turn their brilliance into bank, right?
[2:04] Speaker 2: A lot of the times we have so much wisdom
[2:07] Speaker 2: on the inside of us. And because it's normal for us,
[2:10] Speaker 2: we don't think that anybody else could benefit from it
[2:13] Speaker 2: because we do it every day. But you have so
[2:15] Speaker 2: many individuals who are three steps behind you who could
[2:19] Speaker 2: take your zone of genius and hit the ground running
[2:21] Speaker 2: with it.
[2:23] Speaker 1: Now, entrepreneurs.
[2:24] Speaker 2: Yeah. So entrepreneurs, unfortunately, they only get paid for one thing,
[2:28] Speaker 2: what they do, not what they know.
[2:30] Speaker 1: Right.
[2:30] Speaker 2: So every time they go to make another dollar, they're
[2:33] Speaker 2: usually trading their time for it. But what if I
[2:36] Speaker 2: could show you a better way to no longer trade
[2:38] Speaker 2: your time for money and use the knowledge, the expertise,
[2:41] Speaker 2: your skill set to turn it into a course, an e-book,
[2:44] Speaker 2: a class? So now you can expand yourself without having
[2:48] Speaker 2: to be in so many different rooms.
[2:50] Speaker 1: You know, it's really interesting hearing you talk because, you know,
[2:53] Speaker 1: with AI, people have told me, Rashawn, you can convert
[2:56] Speaker 1: these podcast interviews into... E-books.
[3:00] Speaker 2: Yes.
[3:00] Speaker 1: Yeah, e-books. Of course, Rashawn McDonald is so busy. And
[3:05] Speaker 1: I'm just understanding how you function in a person's life.
[3:08] Speaker 1: Not saying I'm going to do that, but hearing a
[3:10] Speaker 1: person like Rashawn or people like me who have these
[3:14] Speaker 1: podcasts out there with their video audio. And you did
[3:17] Speaker 1: mention the word e-book. How can we translate that into
[3:20] Speaker 1: a revenue generator?
[3:21] Speaker 2: Absolutely.
[3:21] Speaker 1: With your services.
[3:22] Speaker 2: Yeah. So I have my coach KGPT, right? So what
[3:25] Speaker 2: I decided to do was use artificial intelligence to take
[3:28] Speaker 2: all of my zone of genius, my formulas, my frameworks,
[3:31] Speaker 2: put it all in one place. So that entrepreneurs will
[3:34] Speaker 2: be able to have a little hub that they can
[3:36] Speaker 2: always kind of go to. So you have so much
[3:39] Speaker 2: knowledge inside of you. If you put that in an
[3:41] Speaker 2: actual e-book, now the person, like I said, three steps
[3:44] Speaker 2: behind you would be able to take some of the
[3:46] Speaker 2: things that are already inside of you and be able
[3:48] Speaker 2: to hit the ground running with it because they may
[3:50] Speaker 2: not be able to have access to you directly. But
[3:52] Speaker 2: if you did have a digital asset and I. I'm
[3:55] Speaker 2: strong on the word asset because to me, asset means
[3:58] Speaker 2: it makes me income past, present, future, right? It's not
[4:01] Speaker 2: just a product. It's something that people need right now.
[4:04] Speaker 2: And so now that you have that on your website
[4:06] Speaker 2: or when you do a speaking engagement, you get off
[4:09] Speaker 2: the stage from a webinar or a speaking engagement. Now
[4:12] Speaker 2: you have something to be able to make you passive
[4:14] Speaker 2: income without you physically having to be there for it.
[4:16] Speaker 1: Now, is this mailbox income or this income that you
[4:19] Speaker 1: physically have to show up to generate?
[4:21] Speaker 2: No. So I like the literal passive income. So we
[4:24] Speaker 2: don't physically have to always show up for it because
[4:26] Speaker 2: you could be sitting in this chair right now. Somebody
[4:29] Speaker 2: is on your website from one of your amazing past
[4:31] Speaker 2: interviews that you've done. And now they see you have
[4:34] Speaker 2: a couple of steps and an e-book, a class or
[4:36] Speaker 2: a course. And you could be making additional revenue sitting
[4:38] Speaker 2: here talking to me.
[4:39] Speaker 1: You know, it's really hard. I hate. turn these interviews
[4:43] Speaker 1: into Rashawn McDonald self-help courses. But I'm just, I guess
[4:48] Speaker 1: I'm at a point where I look at my life,
[4:50] Speaker 1: you know, people will say, Rashawn, somebody needs to do
[4:52] Speaker 1: a documentary about you. But I know, and I take
[4:55] Speaker 1: all that, you know, with a lot of respect, you know, and,
[4:59] Speaker 1: but I also know that there's, and I'm always talking
[5:02] Speaker 1: about people generating money, but sometimes you can't even, you
[5:05] Speaker 1: look in the mirror, you don't see you as that person.
[5:08] Speaker 1: How do you get a person to, to see the
[5:11] Speaker 1: opportunities when they come to you, Coach K Thompson.
[5:14] Speaker 2: Absolutely. So I like to do a little fact finding, right?
[5:18] Speaker 2: I want to know what your experience are, what your
[5:20] Speaker 2: accolades are, what courses, classes, what have you already taken?
[5:23] Speaker 2: Because some of that stuff that's already inside of you, again,
[5:26] Speaker 2: could help the person three steps behind you. So a
[5:28] Speaker 2: lot of my entrepreneur clientele who comes to me, they
[5:30] Speaker 2: may not have hit that six figure or seven figure mark.
[5:33] Speaker 2: So I tell them the quickest way for you to
[5:35] Speaker 2: do that is to service the person you once were.
[5:37] Speaker 2: So let's try to figure out where you have come from.
[5:39] Speaker 2: What are your genius at? What are you really smart at?
[5:42] Speaker 2: What are you naturally really good at that the person, again,
[5:45] Speaker 2: three steps behind you could benefit from? Let's start there.
[5:48] Speaker 2: So even if we have a professional, let's say they've
[5:50] Speaker 2: been in HR for the past 15 years. let's take
[5:54] Speaker 2: your resume, remove all of the personal stuff, throw it
[5:57] Speaker 2: in a Chedgy PT and get them to dissect where
[6:00] Speaker 2: you're really good at for the past 15 years. You
[6:03] Speaker 2: got to know something, right? And what if everything that
[6:07] Speaker 2: Chedgy PT.
[6:07] Speaker 1: So, you're saying, this is really interesting.
[6:09] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[6:10] Speaker 1: So, you're saying, Well, you know, everything's tied to keywords.
[6:15] Speaker 1: And so if you develop a reputation or buzzwords or brand,
[6:21] Speaker 1: then you said, take that, drop it in the chat
[6:24] Speaker 1: GPT and do what?
[6:26] Speaker 2: Get chat GPT to analyze that information and ask chat GPT,
[6:30] Speaker 2: where am I good at? Show me some of the
[6:33] Speaker 2: things that I could help other people with because you
[6:36] Speaker 2: do it all the time. So you're so amazing. You
[6:38] Speaker 2: don't even know it. And it's somebody who can help
[6:41] Speaker 2: you or somebody who needs your help just in the
[6:43] Speaker 2: things you already do. For example, you're a great interviewer.
[6:47] Speaker 2: How many people want to know how to become a
[6:48] Speaker 2: great interviewer? Right. What is your frequently asked questions? I
[6:52] Speaker 2: tell people to start at what do somebody always ask
[6:55] Speaker 2: you for? They always want to pick your brain about it.
[6:57] Speaker 2: Now you can put it into a digital asset and
[6:59] Speaker 2: they can pick a payment for it.
[7:01] Speaker 1: Please don't go anywhere. We'll be right back with more
[7:03] Speaker 1: money making conversations. Masterclass. Now I need for you to
[7:07] Speaker 1: do me a favor. Right now, to follow or subscribe
[7:10] Speaker 1: to Money Making Conversations, it's free. And you can find
[7:13] Speaker 1: it on the iHeartRadio app, Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or wherever
[7:18] Speaker 1: you get your podcasts. Please do me a favor. Follow
[7:22] Speaker 1: or subscribe Money Making Conversations. Welcome back to Money Making
[7:28] Speaker 1: Conversations Masterclass with me, Rashawn McDonald. You know, Great advice.
[7:34] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[7:35] Speaker 1: I'm the wrong nude. Okay. And I said because of
[7:40] Speaker 1: the fact that, you know, it's just that, you know,
[7:45] Speaker 1: I've been called a renaissance man.
[7:46] Speaker 2: Mm-hmm.
[7:47] Speaker 1: And then just a year ago, I started posting my
[7:51] Speaker 1: cooking videos.
[7:52] Speaker 2: Yes, I saw.
[7:54] Speaker 1: And so now I'm just finally, it's a year anniversary.
[7:57] Speaker 1: I've done it for a year.
[7:58] Speaker 2: Very good.
[7:59] Speaker 1: I do it like a month and stop and all
[8:00] Speaker 1: that stuff.
[8:01] Speaker 2: Okay.
[8:01] Speaker 1: So I'm really trying to... grow a line of consistency
[8:05] Speaker 1: as some people have approached me about doing a TV show. Again,
[8:08] Speaker 1: that's an opportunity. But when I come to you, Coach
[8:11] Speaker 1: Kate Thompson, the reason I guess I have you on
[8:14] Speaker 1: the show, there are a lot of people like me.
[8:17] Speaker 1: You know, they're walking revenue generating brands and don't see it.
[8:22] Speaker 1: And so walk us again through the steps of, let
[8:28] Speaker 1: me ask you this, you know, Do you recruit? As
[8:34] Speaker 1: a revenue generating strategy, do you contact people?
[8:38] Speaker 2: I don't contact people. I don't contact people. So I'm
[8:41] Speaker 2: big on social media, right? As most of us are.
[8:44] Speaker 2: So a lot of my entrepreneurial clientele, my professional clientele,
[8:46] Speaker 2: they find me off of social media, right? So we're
[8:49] Speaker 2: having real conversations in real time. I like going live.
[8:52] Speaker 2: I like to get inside of your head right then
[8:54] Speaker 2: and there and alter your current way of thinking. So
[8:57] Speaker 2: now we can start to get somewhere very quickly, right?
[9:00] Speaker 2: Most entrepreneurs, again, they only make money doing one thing.
[9:04] Speaker 2: Most professionals, they only make money doing one thing. But
[9:06] Speaker 2: how can I get you to see how much money
[9:08] Speaker 2: you're leaving on the table so we can fill in
[9:10] Speaker 2: the revenue gap?
[9:11] Speaker 1: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Okay. Now, here's a couple of questions I
[9:13] Speaker 1: want to ask that you... brought to my attention. How
[9:17] Speaker 1: to turn expertise into digital income without quitting your job first.
[9:22] Speaker 2: Yes. So we love the nine to five. There's nothing
[9:25] Speaker 2: wrong with that, right? But what are you doing from
[9:27] Speaker 2: five to nine? Because if you only have one income,
[9:29] Speaker 2: you're already close to losing, unfortunately, right? So the name
[9:32] Speaker 2: of the game is to have multiple streams of income.
[9:34] Speaker 2: So from five to nine, instead of the Netflixing and
[9:36] Speaker 2: chilling or whatever we are doing, how can we take
[9:40] Speaker 2: those precious hours that we can never get back because
[9:42] Speaker 2: time is more valuable than money how can we make
[9:44] Speaker 2: something that can bring us extra revenue? And the first
[9:47] Speaker 2: thing is we got to brainstorm. We got to get
[9:50] Speaker 2: clear on a, who are we wanting to help? Right.
[9:53] Speaker 2: What big problem can we solve? And is it high
[9:55] Speaker 2: in demand? Right. If it's a necessity, if it's highly
[9:58] Speaker 2: sought after, if it, has a sense of urgency, people
[10:01] Speaker 2: want the solution to that problem very quickly. So let's
[10:05] Speaker 2: get to that first.
[10:06] Speaker 1: Okay, cool. Now before, because we all, I always tell
[10:09] Speaker 1: them when I get my backstory before I You know,
[10:12] Speaker 1: my degrees in mathematics, minor in sociology, worked at IBM,
[10:16] Speaker 1: started telling jokes. That's what made me leave IBM.
[10:19] Speaker 2: Okay.
[10:19] Speaker 1: Deaf, comedy gym, all that stuff. Uh-huh. So, what were
[10:22] Speaker 1: you before Coach Kay Thompson?
[10:24] Speaker 2: Yeah. So, I was in the 9 to 5 corporate
[10:28] Speaker 2: America world, right? And they decided to let me go.
[10:30] Speaker 2: And at that point, I said, I never want.
[10:32] Speaker 1: To let somebody.
[10:37] Speaker 1: What was, were you surprised?
[10:39] Speaker 2: Very surprised. So it was a layoff, right? And so
[10:42] Speaker 2: when they decided.
[10:42] Speaker 1: To- You said that really quick, very surprised.
[10:44] Speaker 2: Very surprised. And when they decided to lay us off,
[10:47] Speaker 2: I was already two paychecks away from poverty anyway. Right, right, right.
[10:49] Speaker 1: Right?
[10:50] Speaker 2: So once that happened, whole world crashed, right? Bankruptcy hit,
[10:53] Speaker 2: eviction hit, repossession hit, whole nine yards. I don't have
[10:57] Speaker 2: a college degree and I don't come from a family
[10:59] Speaker 2: of entrepreneurs. So when I decided to do this, it
[11:01] Speaker 2: was literally just me and my Lord and Savior guiding
[11:05] Speaker 2: me through this process. And so it was very hard
[11:08] Speaker 2: and difficult. But for a long time, I used to
[11:11] Speaker 2: ask myself, well, why is this happening to me?
[11:12] Speaker 1: What were you doing before you got laid off? What
[11:14] Speaker 1: were you doing?
[11:14] Speaker 2: Yeah. So I was working at SunTrust Bank, now they're Truist.
[11:18] Speaker 2: And I was in their repo department. So I was
[11:20] Speaker 2: taking calls. You're kind of getting repoed. We coming to
[11:23] Speaker 2: get it. You got to make a payment. And I
[11:25] Speaker 2: was like, I'm talking to the same people that I
[11:27] Speaker 2: am because I'm already, again, two paychecks away from poverty. Right.
[11:30] Speaker 2: It just highlighted so many things for me in that moment.
[11:33] Speaker 2: And when they let me go, it wasn't a thing of, okay, well,
[11:36] Speaker 2: when can I find another job? It's like, well, how
[11:38] Speaker 2: can I build something that belongs to me that nobody
[11:41] Speaker 2: can take from?
[11:42] Speaker 1: Okay, so you get laid off. Let me ask you this.
[11:45] Speaker 1: Before you got laid off, what did your social media
[11:52] Speaker 1: look like?
[11:53] Speaker 2: It was pretty non-existent. It was only for friends and family.
[11:56] Speaker 2: My daughter was three at the time. So I was posting,
[11:59] Speaker 2: you know, little crate, beautiful pictures and videos of her.
[12:02] Speaker 2: But of course I didn't have that entrepreneur background. So
[12:05] Speaker 2: it was none of that. It was just all friends, family,
[12:09] Speaker 2: loving on each other. That was it.
[12:11] Speaker 1: Okay. So you laid off, right? Yeah. Before we, this
[12:14] Speaker 1: is way before you became coach.
[12:16] Speaker 2: Okay.
[12:16] Speaker 1: Cool.
[12:17] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[12:17] Speaker 1: Before the financial revenue generated and all that stuff. So what,
[12:23] Speaker 1: You did not feel sorry about you? You weren't, oh,
[12:26] Speaker 1: woe is me?
[12:27] Speaker 2: No, no, no. Because at woe is me, you can
[12:31] Speaker 2: only be there for so long. I tell people all
[12:32] Speaker 2: the time, you got to get out of your feelings.
[12:34] Speaker 2: There's no money in there. I had a three-year-old at
[12:36] Speaker 2: the time that I had to figure it out with, right?
[12:39] Speaker 2: And so before I got into the digital world, I
[12:41] Speaker 2: started as a service-based entrepreneur, right? So I became a
[12:45] Speaker 2: self-taught makeup artist. And so I started doing makeup artistry
[12:49] Speaker 2: and I started using Facebook Live to get my business out.
[12:52] Speaker 2: Not my business, but to get my skill set out there.
[12:55] Speaker 2: And that's where the entrepreneurial... world kind of started because
[12:58] Speaker 2: then people were reaching out to me for weddings and
[13:02] Speaker 2: proms and all of that good stuff. And then when
[13:04] Speaker 2: the celebrities started coming in, it was, oh, well, who
[13:06] Speaker 2: can do my makeup? And so the city I was in, Richmond, Virginia,
[13:10] Speaker 2: started tagging me, right? So I've done Cardi B, Remy Ma,
[13:13] Speaker 2: Tamar Braxton. I mean, I've done a lot of individuals.
[13:16] Speaker 2: And so at that point I said- See, you need
[13:19] Speaker 2: to stop now.
[13:20] Speaker 1: You just can't run through those names.
[13:21] Speaker 2: Well, I'm telling you. Can you at least.
[13:23] Speaker 1: Let us hear the names so I can pop a
[13:25] Speaker 1: picture up on the screen?
[13:26] Speaker 2: Okay? I did do those individuals.
[13:30] Speaker 1: Say them again, but slowly and confidently. Okay.
[13:34] Speaker 2: So I've done Cardi B, Tamar Braxton, Lil Mo, Remy Ma. Okay.
[13:41] Speaker 2: I've done Bernice Burgos. She is a big influencer as well.
[13:45] Speaker 2: I did Chris Brown's mom. I did her lashes. She's
[13:47] Speaker 2: not a big makeup person, but I did do her
[13:49] Speaker 2: lashes one time. And so those are the individuals that
[13:52] Speaker 2: I started my entrepreneurship journey with.
[13:55] Speaker 1: OK, so that's makeup.
[13:56] Speaker 2: That's makeup.
[13:57] Speaker 1: Now, how did you slide over to this side of
[14:00] Speaker 1: the game?
[14:00] Speaker 2: Yes. So makeup is beauty industry in itself. There's much
[14:06] Speaker 2: different levels to it. Right. So I was doing lashes.
[14:08] Speaker 2: I became a brow tattoo artist as well. OK, so
[14:11] Speaker 2: I was licensed in the state of Virginia and then
[14:13] Speaker 2: COVID hit. Right. So when COVID hit, the world shut down.
[14:18] Speaker 1: Including you.
[14:18] Speaker 2: Including me. And it made me realize at that point
[14:22] Speaker 2: that if the only time I get paid is when
[14:23] Speaker 2: I'm present, that's a problem. So now I was like, okay,
[14:27] Speaker 2: we know what? I want to start to do digital things, right?
[14:30] Speaker 2: Digital classes and things like that. So the first thing
[14:33] Speaker 2: I started to do was teach digitally. And so I
[14:36] Speaker 2: had individuals coming in and purchasing my digital classes. And
[14:39] Speaker 2: I'm like, okay, this is dope. And I started making
[14:41] Speaker 2: more money teaching what I do than doing what I do.
[14:44] Speaker 2: Eyes opened up again.
[14:45] Speaker 1: Now, when you say digital class, what are these classes?
[14:48] Speaker 1: This was not the makeup, right?
[14:50] Speaker 2: No, this wasn't the makeup. So I started advancing into
[14:52] Speaker 2: other things. So lash classes.
[14:55] Speaker 1: Oh, okay.
[14:56] Speaker 2: Yep. Body contouring was a big thing. I used to
[14:58] Speaker 2: sell waist trainers. I tell everybody... I didn't sell everything
[15:01] Speaker 2: with my body. OK, trying to put food on the table.
[15:05] Speaker 2: And when COVID hit, we had to adjust. And so
[15:09] Speaker 2: that's where that kind of that world kind of came in.
[15:11] Speaker 2: And so I started saying, you know what? I want
[15:14] Speaker 2: to teach other entrepreneurs to take what they know, put
[15:16] Speaker 2: it in a class course e-book so they can sell
[15:19] Speaker 2: it as well. Because most entrepreneurs are shackled to a
[15:21] Speaker 2: business that we started for freedom. And now we got
[15:23] Speaker 2: fatigued because you got a business you can't escape from.
[15:27] Speaker 1: Stay with us. More Money Making Conversation Masterclass coming up next.
[15:35] Speaker 1: Welcome back to Money Making Conversation Masterclass hosted by me,
[15:38] Speaker 1: Rashawn McDonald. Let's get back into it. So that was
[15:42] Speaker 1: in Richmond, Virginia.
[15:43] Speaker 2: Yes.
[15:44] Speaker 1: Now you're based now in Charlotte.
[15:45] Speaker 2: I am.
[15:46] Speaker 1: So the brand that you brought that you have in
[15:48] Speaker 1: Charlotte is what we're talking about, the Coach K Thompson.
[15:51] Speaker 2: Yes.
[15:51] Speaker 1: Okay. Now, Let's talk about how that developed because you
[15:56] Speaker 1: talked about makeup. You're talking about everything we've talked about
[15:59] Speaker 1: so far has been strictly makeup.
[16:01] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[16:01] Speaker 1: Okay. How were you confident enough to branch out of
[16:05] Speaker 1: that without fear?
[16:06] Speaker 2: Yeah. So you're always going to have a little bit
[16:09] Speaker 2: of fear, but the faith has to override that.
[16:11] Speaker 1: Right.
[16:12] Speaker 2: Face of a mustard seed is what we need.
[16:14] Speaker 1: And.
[16:14] Speaker 2: Proverbs tell us clearly that life and death is in
[16:16] Speaker 2: the power of the tongue, which you say will come
[16:18] Speaker 2: into fruition. So I started speaking life over that situation
[16:21] Speaker 2: that led me to where I am today, because without that,
[16:24] Speaker 2: I wouldn't be where I am. Right. And so 2020
[16:27] Speaker 2: was COVID. Right. I moved to Charlotte 2023, the end
[16:33] Speaker 2: of 2023. And so I was already dabbling in the
[16:35] Speaker 2: digital world. And so because I am digital, I can
[16:38] Speaker 2: kind of go and come wherever and, you know, make
[16:41] Speaker 2: money or generate revenue without having to be in one place.
[16:44] Speaker 2: And so I wanted to start off in another city.
[16:46] Speaker 2: And so I decided to do Charlotte, North Carolina, because
[16:49] Speaker 2: I have a daughter and I didn't want to go
[16:50] Speaker 2: too far from her. She was still in high school
[16:52] Speaker 2: at the time. She just graduated. She just turned 18. Congratulations.
[16:55] Speaker 2: Thank you. And she's into the digital world now.
[16:57] Speaker 1: Is she into social media? Okay, she is.
[16:58] Speaker 2: Yeah. So she has, she wanted to be faceless. So
[17:01] Speaker 2: she's created AI avatars, right? To represent somebody that she admires, right?
[17:08] Speaker 2: But it's not her. And so she wanted to conceal
[17:11] Speaker 2: her identity, making revenue. And I said, okay, well, you
[17:13] Speaker 2: can create this beautiful girl. She's fictitious, right? All AI.
[17:17] Speaker 2: But she generates my daughter real income. Real revenue.
[17:21] Speaker 1: She's using an AI clone.
[17:22] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[17:24] Speaker 1: Beautiful. You know, because, you know, it's great hearing that
[17:28] Speaker 1: because my daughter... She is falling in love with AI.
[17:32] Speaker 1: She's an AI audio engineer. And AI is a prominent
[17:37] Speaker 1: use in our company because you can't get left behind.
[17:39] Speaker 1: And I will also tell you, I use AI all
[17:43] Speaker 1: the time when writing letters. I write it out and
[17:46] Speaker 1: I go to AI and go rewrite. And it helps
[17:50] Speaker 1: me out and it helps my presentation. So don't run
[17:52] Speaker 1: from AI. understand the value of AI. But I think
[17:55] Speaker 1: that you had a question that I think maybe hit
[17:57] Speaker 1: home with me that I want to ask. It's about
[18:00] Speaker 1: the revenue gap. Yeah. Why high-performing professionals like me are
[18:04] Speaker 1: still under-earning?
[18:06] Speaker 2: Two things. I don't know if this applies to you,
[18:08] Speaker 2: but I call it my M & M method, right?
[18:10] Speaker 2: So you know M & M is chocolate. We don't
[18:12] Speaker 2: have it. We go through a little withdrawal, right? We
[18:15] Speaker 2: start to feel it, right? With entrepreneurs, when they don't
[18:18] Speaker 2: have their M & M, which is a mentorship in marketing,
[18:22] Speaker 2: the revenue starts to decline because the goal is to
[18:25] Speaker 2: have somebody, a mentor, who can help you get to
[18:29] Speaker 2: where they are, right? You can't do it alone. Of course,
[18:32] Speaker 2: we also need capital and things like that, but capital
[18:34] Speaker 2: can only get you so far if you don't have systems, technologies, mentors,
[18:38] Speaker 2: a community, things like that. So we're missing, as entrepreneurs,
[18:42] Speaker 2: that M & M method. We got to have good marketing,
[18:45] Speaker 2: knowing who we're talking to, who our target audience is,
[18:47] Speaker 2: getting our message very clear, and then make sure we
[18:50] Speaker 2: have a mentor who can help guide us That's another
[18:53] Speaker 2: reason why I created the Coach K GPT because so
[18:55] Speaker 2: many entrepreneurs sit in confusion all day long. They let
[18:59] Speaker 2: hours go by staring at a blank screen. They don't
[19:01] Speaker 2: know what to post, what to say, what digital product
[19:04] Speaker 2: to create. And the Coach K GPT puts that all
[19:07] Speaker 2: together for them and gets them their answers in seconds,
[19:10] Speaker 2: not centuries.
[19:11] Speaker 1: And you built the Coach K GPT through?
[19:16] Speaker 2: Chat GPT.
[19:18] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[19:18] Speaker 2: So ChetGPT, of course, is the Mecca, right? But you
[19:21] Speaker 2: can have GPTs on there. So we have Canva and
[19:25] Speaker 2: all these different apps on there. So me and my brother,
[19:27] Speaker 2: his name is Anthony Thompson. He's the brains behind that.
[19:30] Speaker 2: I just gave him all of my zone of geniuses,
[19:33] Speaker 2: all the classes and courses that I've ever done, things
[19:35] Speaker 2: like that. We put that in there. So it's a
[19:38] Speaker 2: one stop shop.
[19:40] Speaker 1: Okay. So what is your brother's background?
[19:42] Speaker 2: Yeah. So my brother, he's awesome at what he does.
[19:45] Speaker 2: A lot of things that he does is self-taught.
[19:48] Speaker 1: Right. So I'm just loving this conversation. because you're reaping
[19:52] Speaker 1: success without a college education. I'm not saying that's a
[19:55] Speaker 1: good thing or a bad thing. Let me just slow
[19:57] Speaker 1: down here. You are a go-getter, self-taught, and self-motivated. Yes.
[20:00] Speaker 1: Strong in faith. Yes. Your daughter, same skill set?
[20:14] Speaker 2: Yes.
[20:14] Speaker 1: Same, the four I just said? Absolutely. Your brother?
[20:17] Speaker 2: Same thing.
[20:18] Speaker 1: Okay. What's your ultimate goal?
[20:21] Speaker 2: Really expansion. I want to be able to grow mentally, spiritually,
[20:25] Speaker 2: and emotionally, but I also want to be able to
[20:28] Speaker 2: expand my territory so I can help more individuals, more entrepreneurs,
[20:31] Speaker 2: because there's a huge gap. Everybody wants to be impressive.
[20:33] Speaker 2: Nobody wants to be impactful. Right. So how can we
[20:36] Speaker 2: take what we know and impact the masses? That's what
[20:39] Speaker 2: I want to do. It's all about expansion at this point.
[20:41] Speaker 1: I'll be I got to bring up the grants that
[20:43] Speaker 1: you have. You have five grants that you're putting out
[20:46] Speaker 1: under your umbrella. Why are you giving them out? Not
[20:49] Speaker 1: saying that that's a bad thing.
[20:51] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[20:51] Speaker 1: But as a strategy with you.
[20:53] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[20:53] Speaker 1: What you do. Yeah. And I've learned that so far.
[20:56] Speaker 1: Talk to me. Yeah.
[20:57] Speaker 2: So the Vision to Victory grant is something I decided
[21:00] Speaker 2: to give to entrepreneurs. So we're going to do five
[21:03] Speaker 2: $ 1, 000 grants. Because when I first started as an entrepreneur,
[21:06] Speaker 2: I had just filed bankruptcy. So nobody giving me a
[21:08] Speaker 2: whole lot of money. Right. But I needed certain things,
[21:11] Speaker 2: certain softwares, inventory, different things like that. And I said, well,
[21:14] Speaker 2: you know what? Let me at least grant somebody their
[21:16] Speaker 2: first thousand dollars. Maybe they need a new computer or
[21:19] Speaker 2: some new software, some inventory for their business so that
[21:22] Speaker 2: they can get started because so many of us are
[21:25] Speaker 2: missing that one piece. And I was like, you know what?
[21:28] Speaker 2: I want to be the person just to kind of
[21:29] Speaker 2: help a couple people. Yeah.
[21:32] Speaker 1: And how do they apply?
[21:33] Speaker 2: Yes. So the kthompsonfoundation.org is where they can apply at.
[21:38] Speaker 2: So we actually just had our first event, which was
[21:41] Speaker 2: a back-to-school drive. Because I'm a single mom.
[21:43] Speaker 1: In Charlotte?
[21:44] Speaker 2: That was in Richmond, my hometown.
[21:45] Speaker 1: Oh, went back to hometown. Yeah, went back to hometown.
[21:48] Speaker 1: So you went back to Richmond. I did. What was
[21:51] Speaker 1: the whole, did you partner with people? What was it?
[21:54] Speaker 2: I did not. So I called it the Future Leaders Day, right?
[21:57] Speaker 2: Because our children are our future leaders, right? And so
[21:59] Speaker 2: we gave away a hundred book bags full of supplies,
[22:02] Speaker 2: gift cards and things like that because I was a
[22:04] Speaker 2: single mom too, right? So I know what it feels
[22:06] Speaker 2: like to get these babies prepared for school and not
[22:08] Speaker 2: have everything. And so that was the first thing that
[22:11] Speaker 2: we did. And then we also doing the Vision and
[22:12] Speaker 2: Victory Grant to help entrepreneurs too.
[22:15] Speaker 1: You know, we put a lot on faith. You know,
[22:17] Speaker 1: we do put a lot of respect that, you know,
[22:19] Speaker 1: but the hard work comes in there. Planning comes in there.
[22:22] Speaker 1: Activation comes in there.
[22:23] Speaker 2: Yes.
[22:24] Speaker 1: Let's talk about the hard work. How and why? Yeah.
[22:29] Speaker 2: So everything is hard, right? We always say working a
[22:33] Speaker 2: nine to five is hard, being an entrepreneur is hard,
[22:35] Speaker 2: but choose your heart. Which one is gonna be a
[22:37] Speaker 2: little bit more rewarding to you? The one that the
[22:39] Speaker 2: individual cannot take away from you, right? And one of
[22:41] Speaker 2: the biggest things that working in the nine to five
[22:45] Speaker 2: world taught me was I have to build something for me.
[22:49] Speaker 2: So the hard work comes in where I'm gonna work
[22:52] Speaker 2: hard for somebody else and make them millions, or I
[22:53] Speaker 2: can work hard for me and make me millions. Which
[22:56] Speaker 2: one am I going to do?
[22:57] Speaker 1: Right.
[22:58] Speaker 2: And we have to get to the point where we
[23:00] Speaker 2: don't question what hard work looks like. We just need
[23:03] Speaker 2: to get it done because either way you're going to
[23:05] Speaker 2: be working hard. So I really feel as though not
[23:08] Speaker 2: just hard work, but smart work. Right. Because if I
[23:12] Speaker 2: want to generate revenue as quickly as I can, then
[23:17] Speaker 2: I need to figure out ways that I can do
[23:19] Speaker 2: that without taking a whole bunch of my time. Because
[23:21] Speaker 2: if it takes you eight hours to make a thousand
[23:23] Speaker 2: and me two hours to make a thousand, which way
[23:26] Speaker 2: are we going to go? Right. I'm going to go
[23:28] Speaker 2: with the two-hour way, right? And that's where digital assets
[23:31] Speaker 2: come in at because now you have something that runs
[23:33] Speaker 2: on autopilot without you, again, having to be present for it.
[23:37] Speaker 1: Now, the key of all this is the marketing. Get
[23:40] Speaker 1: the word out. Yes. What role do you play, Coach
[23:43] Speaker 1: Kate Thompson?
[23:45] Speaker 2: So I teach people how to be able to market
[23:47] Speaker 2: themselves in a way that's natural and organic.
[23:49] Speaker 1: Right.
[23:50] Speaker 2: I don't want you trying to be anybody else but you.
[23:52] Speaker 1: Right.
[23:53] Speaker 2: Because who you are, your natural energy and essence is
[23:56] Speaker 2: going to attract.
[23:56] Speaker 1: So you don't want to do no paid media.
[23:58] Speaker 2: We can do paid media, but I'll be completely honest
[24:01] Speaker 2: with you. My seven figures was generated organically because I
[24:05] Speaker 2: like to be able to connect to people in real time.
[24:07] Speaker 2: So I go on live all the time. I have
[24:09] Speaker 2: real conversations right then and there. We're having thought provoking
[24:12] Speaker 2: conversations right then and there. And then at the end,
[24:15] Speaker 2: If you want to become a student of mine or
[24:17] Speaker 2: a client of mine, then so be it, right? I
[24:19] Speaker 2: know that paid advertisement is amazing, but if you cannot
[24:23] Speaker 2: master the organic, if you throw money at the page,
[24:26] Speaker 2: you're going to end up losing money because you don't
[24:28] Speaker 2: know what's working, what messaging is going to be good.
[24:30] Speaker 2: So I like the organic route first, and then you
[24:33] Speaker 2: can move into the page.
[24:35] Speaker 1: Tell me this, Coach K. Tell me, when did you
[24:36] Speaker 1: become an expert in this? Mm-hmm.
[24:40] Speaker 2: I want to say I became an expert in this
[24:41] Speaker 2: when I started to make six figures a month, not
[24:45] Speaker 2: six figures a year. That was a game changer for
[24:48] Speaker 2: me because that let me know that something that I'm
[24:50] Speaker 2: doing is actually working. And then when I started to
[24:53] Speaker 2: give my frameworks to my entrepreneurial clients, they started to
[24:56] Speaker 2: get real results as well. Just from the knowledge and
[25:00] Speaker 2: the expertise that I had. So I made so many
[25:03] Speaker 2: mistakes that they don't have to now because I'm giving
[25:05] Speaker 2: it to them up front. Right. I have one of
[25:08] Speaker 2: my clients. She's 59 years old. Amazing woman.
[25:11] Speaker 1: Yes.
[25:12] Speaker 2: And she's generated multiple six figures this year already sitting
[25:16] Speaker 2: at home.
[25:17] Speaker 1: Right.
[25:18] Speaker 2: Another one of my students, she has a medical carrier business.
[25:21] Speaker 2: She was already getting her own contracts. Now she teaches
[25:24] Speaker 2: other people how to get contracts. So instead of her
[25:27] Speaker 2: making money in the physical aspect, she's also making money
[25:29] Speaker 2: in the digital aspect. So now she's getting paid for it.
[25:32] Speaker 2: Not just what she do, but what she knows.
[25:34] Speaker 1: Right. Again, a couple of more questions before I let
[25:36] Speaker 1: you go. Yeah. Building generational wealth. We always hear that
[25:39] Speaker 1: a lot, especially on social media, especially on YouTube.
[25:42] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[25:43] Speaker 1: Through digital products. And I love the fact that, see,
[25:46] Speaker 1: I have a lot of people that come on and
[25:47] Speaker 1: do finance. You're talking about, look, like we just talked
[25:51] Speaker 1: about the podcast, turning it into my podcast and the eBooks.
[25:55] Speaker 1: You are a visionary from a standpoint of being able
[25:58] Speaker 1: to take opportunities and generate revenue. Yes. what skill set
[26:04] Speaker 1: are you working to make that happen for you? Yeah.
[26:07] Speaker 2: So my voice, right?
[26:09] Speaker 1: I have.
[26:11] Speaker 2: Started to master the way I communicate because the better
[26:13] Speaker 2: way you, you know, the more, the more you can
[26:15] Speaker 2: speak or the better way you can speak, you can
[26:18] Speaker 2: impact the masses that way.
[26:20] Speaker 1: Right.
[26:20] Speaker 2: So I want to be able to communicate. And then
[26:22] Speaker 2: I'm also doing my research. I'm always the student. I'm
[26:25] Speaker 2: never the master. So I'm always learning from other individuals
[26:28] Speaker 2: as well. And I've paid up to five figures just
[26:31] Speaker 2: in mentorship of other individuals who are higher than me.
[26:34] Speaker 2: So I'm always learning. I'm always trying to evolve for sure.
[26:37] Speaker 1: So based in Charlotte now.
[26:39] Speaker 2: Yes.
[26:40] Speaker 1: Hometown's Richmond. Yes. Daughter just graduated from high school. Yes.
[26:44] Speaker 1: She's in the AI game.
[26:45] Speaker 2: She is.
[26:45] Speaker 1: Your brother's in the AI game.
[26:47] Speaker 2: He is.
[26:48] Speaker 1: And so you are in the what game?
[26:53] Speaker 2: I will say I'm in the AI game too, but
[26:56] Speaker 2: I'm also in the, I want you to make money
[26:59] Speaker 2: from what you know game, right? So I want you
[27:02] Speaker 2: to be able to take, again, your wealth, your experience,
[27:05] Speaker 2: your knowledge, your expertise, And create assets off of that
[27:09] Speaker 2: that can pay you past, present, future, here, now, and forever.
[27:12] Speaker 1: How do they get in touch with you, Coach?
[27:14] Speaker 2: Yeah. So I have my website, createtocamas.com. I'm also on- Again, Ms.
[27:20] Speaker 1: Fast Talker. What is it?
[27:23] Speaker 2: Www.createtocamas.com. I'm also on social media, Instagram. I am K Thompson,
[27:32] Speaker 2: just the letter K, T-H-O-M-P-S-O-N. And yeah, that's where they
[27:36] Speaker 2: can find me.
[27:36] Speaker 1: And one more time about the grants.
[27:38] Speaker 2: Yes. So the Vision to Victory grant is going to
[27:41] Speaker 2: be running for the month of August. We're going to
[27:43] Speaker 2: announce the winner on September 11th. And I'm looking for
[27:47] Speaker 2: five entrepreneurs to give $ 1, 000 to go towards their either
[27:52] Speaker 2: aspiring to be an entrepreneur or they are an entrepreneur.
[27:56] Speaker 2: A couple questions that I'm asking, and then I'm going
[27:58] Speaker 2: to announce the winner on September 11th.
[28:00] Speaker 1: Well, first of all, congratulations. You know, your story is great.
[28:05] Speaker 1: Thank you. It's great because it becomes a big what if.
[28:11] Speaker 1: What if you didn't get laid off? We're not sitting
[28:14] Speaker 1: here talking. And I really do believe with all my
[28:17] Speaker 1: heart I'm talking to a very unique and special individual.
[28:20] Speaker 1: Thank you. And that's why it's refreshing to hear this conversation. And,
[28:26] Speaker 1: you know, I'm going to tell you, you know, stereotypes
[28:30] Speaker 1: are ugly and you are crushing them.
[28:33] Speaker 2: That's the goal.
[28:34] Speaker 1: And thank you. Thank you for coming on Money Making Conversations.
[28:37] Speaker 2: Absolutely. Thank you for having me. This has been awesome.
[28:40] Speaker 1: Thank you for listening to this episode. Now I need
