If you were to sit in a quiet room with no distractions and honestly answer the question — what is your number one priority in life — what would you say? It is the kind of question most of us prefer not to sit with too long, because the honest answer is often more complicated than we would like. Children, careers, spouses, finances: these things are not wrong in themselves, but God does not compete for position in our lives. He simply waits, with long-suffering patience, for us to return to Him as our first love. The widow of Zarephath had reached the end of everything. One last meal for herself and her son, and then nothing. When the prophet Elijah arrived with what must have sounded like an absurd request — give me food first, before you feed yourself and your child — her decision to obey was an act of profound, costly faith. She put the man of God first, and as a result, the flour and oil did not run out for the entire duration of the famine. Her obedience was not a transaction. It was trust. Matthew 6:33 captures the principle her life illustrated: seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Putting God first is not about earning blessings. It is about living in honest acknowledgment that everything we have comes from Him, and that He alone is worthy of the first and best of what we have to offer — our time, our finances, our attention, and our hearts. Today's Bible Verse "But seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you." — Matthew 6:33, KJV Ponder Today • God does not compete for first place — but He deserves it. Every good thing in our lives is a gift from Him. Giving Him priority is not a burden He imposes on us. It is the natural and right response to who He is and what He has done. • Obedience is the practical expression of putting God first. The widow of Zarephath's faith was demonstrated not in words but in action. Putting God first shows up in how we spend our mornings, our money, our time, and our attention. • Our motives for seeking God matter deeply. We do not put God first in order to receive blessing upon blessing. We put Him first because He gave His only Son for flawed, undeserving humans. Pure motives honor Him far more than calculated obedience. • Putting God first means removing compartmentalization from our lives. God is not meant to occupy one section of our schedule or one category of our budget. He is meant to be first in every area — no exceptions, no separation. • The goal is to hear "well done, good and faithful servant." True success in this life is not measured by what we accumulate but by whether we sought first His kingdom and His righteousness. That eternal perspective changes how we order our daily priorities. A Prayer for You Today Our Father and our God, thank You for Your goodness that extends from generation to generation. There is no one like You, and no one deserves the honor and glory that is Yours alone. Help me to put You first in every area of my life. May my love for You grow each day as I think of Your sacrifice. Remind me that You are always with me, so that when I win it is You, and when I stumble You are there. Help me to seek first the kingdom of God, and help me to die daily to my flesh so that I do not idolize myself or anything You have given me. Each day You give, I choose to honor You by making You first priority. In Jesus' name, Amen. [0:02] Speaker 1: Life Audio. Thank you for listening to your daily prayer,
[0:15] Speaker 1: where we help you find the words you need to
[0:18] Speaker 1: connect to your Father in Heaven. No matter what's happening
[0:21] Speaker 1: in your life today, you can trust that God wants
[0:23] Speaker 1: to hear from you. Right after this short word from
[0:26] Speaker 1: our sponsors, we'll pray through today's prayer to give God
[0:30] Speaker 1: first priority. A Prayer to give God First Priority written
[0:53] Speaker 1: by Kenisha Saunders Lyddy read by Leah Gerard. But seek
[0:59] Speaker 1: ye first the Kingdom of God and his righteousness, and
[1:03] Speaker 1: all these things shall be added. Unto you Matthew six
[1:07] Speaker 1: thirty three, if you were to take a break and
[1:12] Speaker 1: sit in a semidark room with no distractions, what would
[1:16] Speaker 1: you say is your number one priority in life? Let
[1:21] Speaker 1: me remind you, while you think that the God we
[1:26] Speaker 1: serve is very jealous when things or others are given
[1:30] Speaker 1: priority over him, I'm so thankful that I serve a
[1:35] Speaker 1: God who is long suffering and patient. He sees the
[1:40] Speaker 1: evil on the earth and the believers losing their first
[1:45] Speaker 1: love for him. However, He's just waiting for everyone to
[1:50] Speaker 1: come to repentance. So what did you come up with?
[1:55] Speaker 1: Who or what is the first priority in your life.
[2:01] Speaker 1: I know many may say their children, careers, or spouses
[2:07] Speaker 1: take first place if we were to be honest, But
[2:10] Speaker 1: God doesn't compete with anything or anyone, and he really
[2:16] Speaker 1: shouldn't have to. I reminded of the widow of Zaraphath,
[2:21] Speaker 1: who only had enough to feed her and her son
[2:24] Speaker 1: one more time. She knew they were going to die
[2:28] Speaker 1: after they'd eaten, because they'd have nothing left. It was
[2:32] Speaker 1: extremely difficult for widows in those days without a kinsman redeemer,
[2:37] Speaker 1: so I'm sure she had already run out of hope
[2:40] Speaker 1: when the prophet Elijah came to her with his absurd idea.
[2:44] Speaker 1: It would have been great to read her thoughts. However,
[2:47] Speaker 1: I think her first thought must have been, this prophet
[2:50] Speaker 1: has to be insane. Yet she quietly explained to the
[2:55] Speaker 1: prophet why she couldn't respond the way he desired. Although
[3:00] Speaker 1: her decision, we see her faith was evident in what
[3:04] Speaker 1: she knew of the prophet in his God. The widow
[3:08] Speaker 1: of zarah Fath obeyed God and put the Man of
[3:11] Speaker 1: God first, and as a result of her obedience, the
[3:16] Speaker 1: flower and oil lasted during the whole famine. She placed
[3:21] Speaker 1: God first, and God took care of her and her
[3:23] Speaker 1: son until the famine was gone. If she had disobeyed God,
[3:28] Speaker 1: she and her son wouldn't have made it through the famine.
[3:32] Speaker 1: Obedience is key to putting God first, simply because it's
[3:36] Speaker 1: what He requires and what he deserves. This should be
[3:41] Speaker 1: the heart of every believer to live in a way
[3:44] Speaker 1: that puts God first in our lives. To give God priority,
[3:49] Speaker 1: one must set aside time to pray, to read God's word,
[3:53] Speaker 1: to fellowship with fellow believers, and to live a life
[3:56] Speaker 1: of worship. And we must all do this to the
[3:59] Speaker 1: extent that it's clear to others that God is first.
[4:03] Speaker 1: When we wake in the morning, we shouldn't do anything
[4:05] Speaker 1: before breathing a word of prayer to the giver of life.
[4:09] Speaker 1: He should be on our mind when we wake, and
[4:11] Speaker 1: the last thing we think of before we sleep when
[4:15] Speaker 1: it comes to our finances. I know this is easier
[4:18] Speaker 1: said than done, because as I'm typing this prayer, I'm
[4:21] Speaker 1: stuck in a financial predicament and wondering how I can
[4:25] Speaker 1: continue to put God first. I know what I have
[4:29] Speaker 1: is from Him, and I can only give back a
[4:32] Speaker 1: portion of what He's blessed me with. But as things
[4:35] Speaker 1: get harder, and money seems to outweigh the things we
[4:39] Speaker 1: need to put first in our lives. Will my faith
[4:42] Speaker 1: and trust in Jesus stand the test? The widow of
[4:46] Speaker 1: Zarah fth was obedient, but we don't know her motives
[4:50] Speaker 1: for her obedience. Was it so that she and her
[4:53] Speaker 1: son would live? Or was it because she trusted in
[4:57] Speaker 1: the God she had heard many stories about We put
[5:01] Speaker 1: God first because he gave up his only son for
[5:04] Speaker 1: mere flawed humans. We don't put him first because we
[5:08] Speaker 1: want to receive blessings upon blessings. Our motives should be
[5:13] Speaker 1: pure to seek to know God and share in everything
[5:17] Speaker 1: He offers us. As believers, maybe go through this life
[5:22] Speaker 1: wanting to put God first. May our lives show to
[5:26] Speaker 1: both believers and unbelievers alike that God is first, that
[5:31] Speaker 1: He is our priority in this life because the goal
[5:34] Speaker 1: is to hear well done, thou good and faithful servant.
[5:38] Speaker 1: The goal is to receive crowns to place them at
[5:42] Speaker 1: God's feet, because He is worthy of all praise and honoration.
[5:48] Speaker 1: I believe that to be truly successful in this life
[5:51] Speaker 1: is to seek first the Kingdom of God and his righteousness.
[5:55] Speaker 1: When we choose to put God first in all we
[5:58] Speaker 1: do and there is no compartmentalization in our lives. Let's pray,
[6:07] Speaker 1: our Father and our God, thank you for your goodness
[6:10] Speaker 1: to me that extends from generation to generation. What an
[6:14] Speaker 1: awesome God you are. There is no one like you,
[6:17] Speaker 1: and no one deserves the honor and glory that is
[6:20] Speaker 1: yours and yours alone. Thank you God for your unfailing
[6:25] Speaker 1: love and your kingdom that's a part of man's story.
[6:29] Speaker 1: May your kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven. Father,
[6:33] Speaker 1: I come before you today asking that you would bless
[6:37] Speaker 1: the one saying this prayer. Help me to put you
[6:40] Speaker 1: first in every area of my life. May my love
[6:44] Speaker 1: for you grow each day as they think of your sacrifice.
[6:48] Speaker 1: Remind me, o, Lord that you are always with me,
[6:52] Speaker 1: so that when I win, it is you, and when
[6:55] Speaker 1: I stumble, you are there. Father, help me to seek
[7:00] Speaker 1: the kingdom of God. I asked that you help me
[7:03] Speaker 1: to die daily to my flesh so that I don't
[7:06] Speaker 1: idolize myself or anything you've given me. This is a
[7:10] Speaker 1: new day to serve you, and each day you give
[7:14] Speaker 1: I promise to honor you by putting you first and
[7:17] Speaker 1: making you a priority in my life. I pray that
[7:22] Speaker 1: all the things you have for me would be added
[7:25] Speaker 1: unto me in Jesus' name. Amen. Your Daily Prayer is
