Feeling trapped in a job that feels meaningless, draining, or toxic is one of the most common and quietly suffocating experiences in modern life. The daily grind of a difficult workplace can feel remarkably like a prison sentence. And Joseph — sold into slavery by his own brothers, taken to a foreign land, falsely accused, and thrown into prison for a crime he did not commit — knew that feeling better than almost anyone in Scripture. What is remarkable about Joseph is not that he endured injustice. It is that he did not merely survive it. In a prison, with every human reason to complain and do the bare minimum, Joseph served with such faithfulness and excellence that the warden put him in charge of the entire facility. God was right there in the prison with him, and through Joseph's faithful witness, pagan jailers could see that something different and good was at work in this man's life. The same principle applies to every believer in a difficult workplace today: your job may not be your dream job, but it is your current mission field. When the perspective shifts from "I have to go to work" to "I get to be a witness," the most challenging work tasks take on eternal significance. Working hard, being honest, refusing gossip, staying calm under pressure, and treating others with kindness are not small things. They are a testimony to a God who is worth seeking, and they can inspire the people around you to do exactly that. Bible Verse "But while Joseph was there in the prison, the LORD was with him; he showed him kindness and granted him favor in the eyes of the prison warden." — Genesis 39:20-21, NIV Ponder Today • God is right there with you in your difficult workplace — just as He was with Joseph in prison. You have not been abandoned to this environment. You may have been strategically placed there because the people around you need to see God's love through you. • Joseph thrived in prison not by tolerating it, but by serving faithfully within it. Excellence and integrity in difficult circumstances are not naive — they are powerful testimonies to the reality of God's goodness working through an ordinary life. • Changing your perspective from employee to witness changes everything. When the focus shifts from what you get out of your job to what God wants to do through you there, frustration gives way to purpose and the work takes on eternal significance. • Your current job is your current mission field. It may not be where you want to be long-term. But right now, the people you work beside every day need to see God's love — and you are the one God has placed there to show it. • Working hard, staying honest, and treating others with kindness are acts of witness. When coworkers see something different and positive in the way you work, they notice. And that noticing can become the beginning of their own journey toward God. A Prayer for You Today Dear God, some days it is incredibly hard to go to work. It is easy to feel frustrated, undervalued, and trapped. Please forgive me for the times I have complained and lost sight of Your bigger picture. Help me to see my work not just as a job, but as my current assignment from You. I want to be a witness, not just an employee. Even when the environment around me is stressful, remind me that You are right here with me, just as You were with Joseph in prison. Give me the strength to give You my best work. Let Your kindness flow through my words and actions. Help me to love the coworkers who are hard to love, honor my superiors, and bring peace into stressful situations. May the people I work with see something different and positive in me and be inspired to seek You themselves. I commit all of my work to You and trust that You are using me for Your eternal purposes. Thank You, God. Amen. Want More? 🎉 We're excited to introduce The Good Word, a new way to receive weekly biblical wisdom and encouragement right in your inbox. Join our community today:…

[0:02] Speaker 1: Life Audio. Thank you for listening to your daily prayer,
[0:15] Speaker 1: where we help you find the words you need to
[0:18] Speaker 1: connect to your Father in Heaven. No matter what's happening
[0:21] Speaker 1: in your life today, you can trust that God wants
[0:24] Speaker 1: to hear from you. Right after this short word from
[0:27] Speaker 1: our sponsors, we'll pray through today's prayer to work as
[0:31] Speaker 1: a witness, not just an employee. A Prayer to work
[0:52] Speaker 1: as a witness, not just an employee, written by Whitney Hoppler,
[0:57] Speaker 1: read by Leah Gerard. Joseph's master took him and put
[1:03] Speaker 1: him in prison, the place where the King's prisoners were confined.
[1:08] Speaker 1: But while Joseph was there in the prison, the Lord
[1:12] Speaker 1: was with him. He showed him kindness and granted him
[1:16] Speaker 1: favor in the eyes of the prison warden Genesis thirty nine,
[1:20] Speaker 1: twenty through twenty one. It's easy to feel trapped by
[1:25] Speaker 1: your current workplace. If you feel stuck in a job
[1:28] Speaker 1: that feels meaningless, draining, or even toxic, you might wonder
[1:32] Speaker 1: if your daily work in an environment like that even
[1:35] Speaker 1: matters to God. Feeling stuck in a difficult workplace can
[1:40] Speaker 1: feel a lot like a prison sentence. Genesis chapter thirty
[1:44] Speaker 1: nine shows that Joseph knew exactly what it felt like
[1:47] Speaker 1: to be trapped in a miserable workplace. He was sold
[1:51] Speaker 1: into slavery by his own brothers, taken to a foreign place,
[1:55] Speaker 1: and forced to work as a servant. Then he was
[1:58] Speaker 1: falsely accused of rape by Potiphar's wife after he refused
[2:02] Speaker 1: her attempts to seduce him. Even though he didn't commit
[2:07] Speaker 1: a crime, Joseph is thrown into prison. Joseph endured so
[2:13] Speaker 1: much injustice that he had many reasons to give up
[2:17] Speaker 1: or complain and do the bare minimum just to survive.
[2:20] Speaker 1: But the Bible tells us that in those terrible circumstances,
[2:25] Speaker 1: God was right there in prison with him. Joseph didn't
[2:30] Speaker 1: just survive his captivity. He actually thrived so much by
[2:36] Speaker 1: staying faithful to God that the prison warden put him
[2:40] Speaker 1: in charge of the entire facility. Joseph understood a powerful truth.
[2:46] Speaker 1: Serving as a witness for God is important wherever we are.
[2:52] Speaker 1: Even if you feel like you're working in a prison,
[2:55] Speaker 1: God is inviting you to change your perspective and see
[2:58] Speaker 1: yourself as a witness, not just an employee. When you
[3:02] Speaker 1: view your job as just employment, your focus is entirely
[3:06] Speaker 1: on what you get out of it, your paycheck, your benefits,
[3:09] Speaker 1: and your comfort. If the environment is challenging for you,
[3:13] Speaker 1: it affects your attitude, making you feel stressed and stuck.
[3:18] Speaker 1: But when you change your perspective and view your job
[3:22] Speaker 1: as a witness, your focus shifts to what God wants
[3:26] Speaker 1: to do through you in your job. That opens up
[3:31] Speaker 1: lots of important possibilities and encourages you that your work
[3:35] Speaker 1: is part of fulfilling God's purposes for your life. Joseph
[3:41] Speaker 1: worked with such excellence and integrity that his pagan jailers
[3:44] Speaker 1: could see there was something different and positive about him.
[3:49] Speaker 1: They recognized God at work in Joseph's life. In your
[3:54] Speaker 1: own work, everything you do to serve as a faithful
[3:57] Speaker 1: witness to God will be a powerful way of sharing
[4:00] Speaker 1: others the reality of God's goodness. Working hard, being honest,
[4:06] Speaker 1: refusing to participate in gossip, staying calm under pressure, and
[4:11] Speaker 1: treating others with respect and kindness will show your coworkers
[4:15] Speaker 1: that you work for a good God. People will then
[4:19] Speaker 1: be inspired to seek God on their own. If you
[4:24] Speaker 1: feel stuck or unappreciated in your job right now, take
[4:28] Speaker 1: comfort in knowing that God is right there with you
[4:31] Speaker 1: at work every day. You can notice God's presence with
[4:36] Speaker 1: you when you reach out to God in prayer. God
[4:39] Speaker 1: hasn't abandoned you in this workplace. In fact, God may
[4:43] Speaker 1: have strategically placed you there because people you work with
[4:47] Speaker 1: need to see God's love, and they can see that
[4:51] Speaker 1: through your faithful service as a witness. Your current job
[4:55] Speaker 1: might not be your dream job, but it's your current
[4:58] Speaker 1: mission field. When you change your mindset from thinking I
[5:02] Speaker 1: have to go to work too, I get to be
[5:04] Speaker 1: a witness. You can see that even your most challenging
[5:08] Speaker 1: work tasks have eternal significance. Trust that God is using
[5:12] Speaker 1: this season to shape your character, build your endurance, and
[5:17] Speaker 1: shine His light through you to a world that desperately
[5:23] Speaker 1: needs it. Let's pray, Dear God. I confess that some
[5:29] Speaker 1: days it's incredibly hard for me to go to work.
[5:33] Speaker 1: It's easy for me to feel frustrated, undervalued, and trapped
[5:36] Speaker 1: in this job. Please forgive me for the times I've
[5:40] Speaker 1: complained and lost sight of your bigger picture. Please change
[5:44] Speaker 1: my perspective. God, help me to see my work not
[5:48] Speaker 1: just as a job, but as my current assignment from You.
[5:52] Speaker 1: I want to be a witness, not just an employee.
[5:55] Speaker 1: Even when the environment around me is stressful, remind me
[5:59] Speaker 1: that you're right here with me, just as you were
[6:02] Speaker 1: with Joseph in prison. Give me the strength to give
[6:06] Speaker 1: you my best work. Let your kindness flow through my
[6:09] Speaker 1: words and my actions. Help me to love the co
[6:13] Speaker 1: workers who are hard, to love, to honor my superiors,
[6:17] Speaker 1: and to bring peace into stressful situations. May the people
[6:22] Speaker 1: I work with see something different and positive in me
[6:26] Speaker 1: and recognize your work in my life, so they'll be
[6:29] Speaker 1: inspired to seek you themselves. I commit all of my
[6:34] Speaker 1: work to you, and I trust that you're using me
[6:38] Speaker 1: for your eternal purposes. Thank you God, Amen. Your Daily
