Every new day arrives carrying the potential for disruption. A single phone call, an unexpected diagnosis, a notice at work, an accident — and a carefully laid plan can unravel before noon. Life will never be worry-free or perfectly manageable, and Jesus never promised it would be. What He did promise, on the night before His own crucifixion, is something far more durable than smooth circumstances: In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world. John 16:33 is bookended by two gifts. An offer of peace opens it, and an encouragement to take heart closes it. Between them sits the most honest acknowledgment in Scripture that trouble is simply part of life on earth. The messy parts, the stressors, the outcomes of illness and lack and worry and danger — these are ultimately in God's hands, not ours. Philippians 4:6-7 shows us the practical path from anxiety to that peace: prayer, petition, and thanksgiving, bringing our actual concerns before God rather than carrying them silently. Isaiah adds that the minds steadfastly fixed on God will be kept in perfect peace, because they trust in Him. Prayer does not instantly erase circumstances. But it casts our cares at the feet of Jesus, reframes our perspective, and makes room to receive the rest He has been offering all along: Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Today's Bible Verse "I have told you these things so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." — John 16:33, NIV Ponder Today • Jesus was honest about trouble before He offered peace. He did not promise a worry-free life. He promised that His peace would be available within the trouble, and that He has already overcome whatever we are currently facing. • The peace of God is accessed through prayer and thanksgiving, not through problem-solving. Philippians 4:6-7 does not tell us to figure out our anxious situations — it tells us to bring them to God. The peace that follows transcends our ability to understand or engineer it. • A steadfast mind is a protected mind. Isaiah 26:3 connects perfect peace directly to a mind that is fixed on God and trusting in Him. Where we anchor our attention during stressful seasons determines what we experience in them. • Prayer reframes perspective even when it does not change circumstances. Casting our cares at the feet of Jesus does not necessarily resolve the situation, but it unbundens the heart and restores the hope and clarity needed to keep walking in His will. A Prayer for You Today Dear Lord, I am feeling a lot of stress lately. There is always so much on my mind, more than I can handle on my own, and too many demands pulling at me from every direction. I know I am putting too much pressure on myself, but it is hard to juggle caring for my own health, loving the people in my life well, and meeting all my responsibilities at work and home. I know You have given me this one earthly life, and I want to live it gratefully, not begrudgingly. Please help me unload the worries that stress me out, and help me rest amid uncertainty, because I am certain You can work all things for good. Show me what You desire for my path. Give me the strength to do what You desire rather than what overloads and tears me down. Fill me with the reassurance of Your inexplicable peace. I give it all to You, Lord, with a thankful heart. I love You. Amen. Don't Miss an Episode If today's prayer helped you release what you have been carrying and receive the peace only God can give, we'd love to stay connected. [0:02] Speaker 1: Life Audio. Thank you for listening to your daily prayer,
[0:15] Speaker 1: where we help you find the words you need to
[0:17] Speaker 1: connect to your Father in Heaven. No matter what's happening
[0:20] Speaker 1: in your life today, you can trust that God wants
[0:23] Speaker 1: to hear from you. Right after this short word from
[0:26] Speaker 1: our sponsors, we'll pray through today's prayer for untangling from
[0:30] Speaker 1: the stress of worry. A Prayer for Untangling from the
[0:51] Speaker 1: Stress of Worry, written and read by Lea Gerard. I
[0:56] Speaker 1: have told you these things so that in me you
[1:00] Speaker 1: have peace. In this world you will have trouble, But
[1:04] Speaker 1: take heart, I have overcome the world John sixteen thirty three.
[1:11] Speaker 1: What an honor that we get to pray to a
[1:14] Speaker 1: God who's bigger than all of our worries anytime, any day,
[1:20] Speaker 1: even better every day. And even though each new day
[1:24] Speaker 1: we're given is surely full of rough or well laid plans,
[1:29] Speaker 1: we all know our desires can be thwarted by unexpected detours.
[1:35] Speaker 1: A day can be destroyed by a phone call, an accident,
[1:39] Speaker 1: a job notice, anything. This is because life will never
[1:43] Speaker 1: be worry free or perfect. Jesus assures us of this
[1:49] Speaker 1: in the heart of John sixteen thirty three, saying in
[1:52] Speaker 1: this world you will have trouble. Yet his statement is
[1:57] Speaker 1: bookended by an offer, and as he opens with an
[2:02] Speaker 1: offer of his peace within us, he closes with encouragement
[2:06] Speaker 1: to take heart because He's overcome the world. This means
[2:11] Speaker 1: the messy parts of life on earth are not entirely
[2:14] Speaker 1: up to us to figure out. Ultimately, the outcomes of illness, lack, stressors, worries, dangers,
[2:22] Speaker 1: and more are in God's hands. Jesus promised this peace
[2:28] Speaker 1: directly to his faithful disciples in the Upper Room on
[2:33] Speaker 1: the night before he was to be crucified. It's a
[2:37] Speaker 1: powerful reminder that no matter what we're facing or stressing over,
[2:42] Speaker 1: the peace of Jesus reigns victorious. This is why so
[2:47] Speaker 1: many biblical writers invite you to hand it over to
[2:50] Speaker 1: Him and free yourself from anxiety. How by prayer and thanksgiving.
[2:56] Speaker 1: Let's look at Philippians four six through seven. Do not
[3:00] Speaker 1: be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer
[3:04] Speaker 1: and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And
[3:08] Speaker 1: the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard
[3:13] Speaker 1: your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. This doesn't mean
[3:18] Speaker 1: that it's super simple to never let stress get the
[3:22] Speaker 1: best of you, or that by being a believer you
[3:25] Speaker 1: won't feel angst. I'm just suggesting that you can refill
[3:30] Speaker 1: yourself with the promises of Scripture when stress starts to
[3:33] Speaker 1: weigh or even break you down. While Isaiah was wrestling
[3:39] Speaker 1: with visions of a devastating global apocalypse, he reminds himself
[3:44] Speaker 1: and you of God's ability in Isaiah twenty six to three,
[3:48] Speaker 1: saying you will keep in perfect peace those whose minds
[3:52] Speaker 1: are steadfast because they trust in You. Throughout the proverbs
[3:58] Speaker 1: and psalms in the Old and New test stuments were
[4:00] Speaker 1: encouraged to trust in Him, pour out our hearts to Him,
[4:04] Speaker 1: and take refuge in Him through his son Jesus, God
[4:09] Speaker 1: says in Matthew eleven twenty eight, come to me, all
[4:13] Speaker 1: you who are weary and burdened, and I will give
[4:16] Speaker 1: you rest. Prayer won't instantly erase your circumstances, but it
[4:23] Speaker 1: can help you cast your cares at the feet of Jesus,
[4:27] Speaker 1: allowing you to reframe your perspective so that you can
[4:32] Speaker 1: unburden your heart and hold on to the hope you
[4:35] Speaker 1: have in Him. When worries escalade and distress, let them
[4:41] Speaker 1: all out to the God who knows you best. Then
[4:45] Speaker 1: you can receive the peace and rest you need to
[4:50] Speaker 1: keep walking in His will for you. Let's pray, Dear Lord,
[4:56] Speaker 1: I'm feeling a lot of stress lately. There's always either
[4:59] Speaker 1: so much my mind, more physical ailments than I can handle,
[5:03] Speaker 1: or too much on my calendar. I know I'm putting
[5:07] Speaker 1: too much pressure on myself, but it's hard to juggle
[5:11] Speaker 1: taking care of my own health, caring for those I love,
[5:14] Speaker 1: and meeting all my responsibilities at work and at home.
[5:18] Speaker 1: I know You've given me this one earthly life, and
[5:21] Speaker 1: I want to live it gratefully, not begrudgingly. So please
[5:26] Speaker 1: help me unload the worries that stress me out and
[5:29] Speaker 1: rest anyway amid uncertainty, because I'm certain you can work
[5:35] Speaker 1: all things for good. You can do more than any
[5:39] Speaker 1: of my striving. Show me, Lord, what you desire for
[5:43] Speaker 1: my path. Help me hear your will for me each day,
[5:48] Speaker 1: and please give me the strength to do what you desire.
[5:51] Speaker 1: Not whatever overloads or tears me down, Please fill me
[5:56] Speaker 1: with the reassurance of your inexplicable peace. I give it
[6:01] Speaker 1: all to you, Lord, with a thankful heart. I love you. Amen.
