[0:41] Speaker 5: All right, boys and girls, here we go on a
[0:43] Speaker 5: Washington State Beef Commission Football Friday. Big thanks to our
[0:46] Speaker 5: friends at Tito's Handmade Vodka. Could use some vodka after
[0:50] Speaker 5: watching this baseball team play this year, but maybe we'll
[0:53] Speaker 5: have some vodka. As part of a celebration, who knows,
[0:57] Speaker 5: by the end of the year again for our beloved
[0:58] Speaker 5: Seattle Seahawks. Joining us now to talk all things football,
[1:02] Speaker 5: college and pro, and who knows what else, our friend
[1:04] Speaker 5: Huey Millen.
[1:05] Speaker 4: How are you, man? I'm doing great.
[1:07] Speaker 6: Great to be with you. Yeah, man, lots going on.
[1:09] Speaker 6: Why don't we start with the Hawks? in Arizona.
[1:11] Speaker 5: I think this was a game that when people saw
[1:14] Speaker 5: the schedule, they said, well, that's a win. I mean, heck,
[1:18] Speaker 5: the Hawks have not lost a game in front of
[1:20] Speaker 5: a full house of fans in Arizona against the Cardinals
[1:25] Speaker 5: in 14 years. They lost in 2020 during the COVID year, Hugh.
[1:30] Speaker 5: And there was like 1,500 people. But then Sam Darnold
[1:33] Speaker 5: goes out and gets banged up in week one. Now
[1:35] Speaker 5: he's out for a couple weeks. And, oh, by the way,
[1:38] Speaker 5: the Cardinals beat the Chargers in week number one. So
[1:41] Speaker 5: where's your confidence level now for this game at Arizona Sunday?
[1:46] Speaker 7: I think it's going to be, you know, nip and tuck.
[1:49] Speaker 7: That's my sense. Even last year, remember, Sam Darnold had
[1:54] Speaker 7: to hit a go-route up the sideline doing jigba on
[1:56] Speaker 7: the right side.
[1:57] Speaker 4: Yep.
[1:58] Speaker 7: And then turn around on the same drive on the
[2:00] Speaker 7: left side to hit another go route. I mean, it
[2:04] Speaker 7: was almost balancing on a blade of a knife. So
[2:07] Speaker 7: I think that the Cardinals, you know, they've got a
[2:11] Speaker 7: few advantages. I'm not saying advantages over the Seahawks, but
[2:14] Speaker 7: advantages over their normal selves. They've got a new head coach, obviously.
[2:18] Speaker 7: So there's a little bit of juice in the locker
[2:20] Speaker 7: room about that. They're feeling really good about what happened
[2:23] Speaker 7: with the Chargers. They're sowing their oats for sure. And, um,
[2:27] Speaker 7: and they, you know, they probably feel like, uh, they're
[2:30] Speaker 7: going to take advantage of a backup quarterback. So, so
[2:33] Speaker 7: arguably you could say that the most important player on
[2:37] Speaker 7: the offense for Seattle, Sam Darnold, isn't going to play.
[2:40] Speaker 2: Right.
[2:41] Speaker 7: And, you know, you could certainly make a case for
[2:43] Speaker 7: several on the defense, but you could make a very
[2:46] Speaker 7: credible case for Nick Amon worry being the most, uh,
[2:50] Speaker 7: you know, important person on the defense, given everything that
[2:54] Speaker 7: he can do and, and what he allows Mike McDonald
[2:57] Speaker 7: to call and what have you. So, so yeah, I
[2:59] Speaker 7: think that there's some, some of those things start stacking
[3:02] Speaker 7: up and I think it finally equates to a, a
[3:05] Speaker 7: game that should be more competitive than we were thinking
[3:08] Speaker 7: all summer.
[3:08] Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean, it's kind of the backup bowl.
[3:10] Speaker 5: Like, I know that Jacoby is the starter for the
[3:13] Speaker 5: Cardinals out of training camp, but he's a career backup
[3:16] Speaker 5: for the most part, right? And now you've got Drew Locke.
[3:18] Speaker 5: And I just go back to last Wednesday's game, which
[3:22] Speaker 5: feels like forever ago.
[3:23] Speaker 6: My God, it was a week and a half.
[3:24] Speaker 5: And, I mean, if I'm the Seahawks, I'm like, hey,
[3:26] Speaker 5: we won, but guys, we went 42 minutes without scoring
[3:30] Speaker 5: a point last And oh, by the way, our defense had, what,
[3:33] Speaker 5: two or three drives where the opponent is in very
[3:36] Speaker 5: favorable situations, second and 20, third and 15, and they're
[3:41] Speaker 5: continuing to move the football. So to me, this should
[3:45] Speaker 5: be a totally driven team after the way they played
[3:47] Speaker 5: last Wednesday.
[3:49] Speaker 7: They should be. And yeah, I don't have in front
[3:51] Speaker 7: of me. We talked about in the postgame, there was
[3:53] Speaker 7: five different occasions where it was second or third and
[3:56] Speaker 7: long and the Patriots were able to convert. So they
[4:00] Speaker 7: got to clean that up. I think if there's one
[4:04] Speaker 7: aspect of the defense, they're so well coached and they
[4:08] Speaker 7: got great players at every level. Could they stand to
[4:11] Speaker 7: use a little bit more twitch? Is there a defensive end,
[4:13] Speaker 7: you know, a boy Moffay? Would that complete the ensemble?
[4:18] Speaker 7: Somebody like that? I mean, you saw Leonard Williams played
[4:23] Speaker 7: more reps at defensive end than he played a defensive tackle.
[4:27] Speaker 7: And I believe it was 27 reps at defensive end.
[4:32] Speaker 7: And so I think of the Seahawks being better when
[4:35] Speaker 7: he's playing as a defensive tackle in part because you
[4:39] Speaker 7: can run the stunts. Regardless of how athletic the quarterback is,
[4:44] Speaker 7: you can run the stunt where the end goes in,
[4:48] Speaker 7: the tackle goes out. Well, now the tackle assumes the
[4:51] Speaker 7: contained responsibility. So now you say, Leonard Williams, even though
[4:55] Speaker 7: you're lined up in a three technique, what have you,
[4:57] Speaker 7: once we call this stunt, You've got to make sure
[4:59] Speaker 7: the quarterback doesn't get outside of you. Well, there's a
[5:01] Speaker 7: lot of defensive tackles when you watch them on tape.
[5:04] Speaker 7: They've got no chance of providing contain. Leonard Williams is
[5:07] Speaker 7: big enough and athletic enough that he can be a
[5:11] Speaker 7: contain guy on those stunts. So there's a lot of
[5:14] Speaker 7: things that go into all this. I think Mike McDonald's
[5:18] Speaker 7: going to feel more content when he gets a little
[5:22] Speaker 7: bit healthier.
[5:23] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[5:23] Speaker 5: Well, I'm curious to see the kind of workload that
[5:26] Speaker 5: Jadarian Price gets for this game. I'm going back to
[5:30] Speaker 5: the Patriot game, and if I'm wrong, please correct me,
[5:32] Speaker 5: but he only had the 12 touches, 10 carries, and
[5:35] Speaker 5: two targets. I know people have talked about kind of
[5:38] Speaker 5: bringing him along slow, and I guess my question is why?
[5:42] Speaker 5: He was a first-round draft pick. He's by far and away,
[5:46] Speaker 5: seemingly on paper, your best running back. I think we
[5:49] Speaker 5: know how we feel about Helani and Emmanuel Wilson, right?
[5:53] Speaker 5: Why are we not letting this horse run?
[5:54] Speaker 7: Well, I just feel like they have done their research
[5:59] Speaker 7: and they've arrived at the conclusion that if you want
[6:02] Speaker 7: to take a guy that was averaging under 10 touches
[6:06] Speaker 7: per game, I think it was 9.6 or 9.8. It
[6:08] Speaker 7: was definitely under 10, barely, at Notre Dame per game
[6:14] Speaker 7: because he's backing up Jeremiah Love, obviously. And then now
[6:17] Speaker 7: you say, okay, now we're going to double it and
[6:19] Speaker 7: get up into the 19-20 range that that's a recipe
[6:23] Speaker 7: for a guy that's not going to be able to
[6:25] Speaker 7: deliver come December and January. He'll either be hurt or
[6:29] Speaker 7: he'll be worn out and he just won't have the juice.
[6:32] Speaker 7: So that's the argument. I'm not saying I make that argument.
[6:36] Speaker 7: I think reasonable minds could differ. I thought that they
[6:38] Speaker 7: should have used him more against the Patriots because you
[6:43] Speaker 7: got Drew Locke, like whatever the plan was, as soon
[6:47] Speaker 7: as Darnold goes down with the hip on the fourth
[6:49] Speaker 7: offensive play, then that whole game plan just gets wadded
[6:53] Speaker 7: up and thrown in the garbage. I mean, that's a
[6:55] Speaker 7: little bit of an exaggeration, but you've got to do
[6:58] Speaker 7: everything you can to make the best possible working environment
[7:03] Speaker 7: for your backup quarterback to win the game, regardless of
[7:07] Speaker 7: how that looks. Hey, we're going back to your training
[7:10] Speaker 7: camp plays, the ones that you have the most rep with.
[7:12] Speaker 7: And you said it's a battle of backups, but the
[7:15] Speaker 7: one thing, and I know you know this, but just
[7:17] Speaker 7: as a reminder, Jacoby Brissett, all off season, he was throwing,
[7:20] Speaker 7: you know, in those player run practices, he was stepping up,
[7:23] Speaker 7: taking the first rep. He was the one throwing to
[7:25] Speaker 7: Marvin Harrison.
[7:26] Speaker 5: Right.
[7:26] Speaker 2: Right.
[7:27] Speaker 7: You know, uh, Mark Gardner Minshew was throwing to, you know, uh, to, to,
[7:31] Speaker 7: you know, Devin DeVornay and the, the backup guy. So,
[7:34] Speaker 7: so the cohesion that you would expect from Jacoby Brissett
[7:38] Speaker 7: with the starters would be certainly greater than what you
[7:40] Speaker 7: expect with Drew Locke and these starters.
[7:42] Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, I guess my point is that he's
[7:44] Speaker 5: spent more games in the NFL, I think, as a
[7:47] Speaker 5: backup quarterback than he has a starting quarterback. Talking about
[7:50] Speaker 5: Jacoby Percet now. I mean, Drew Locke certainly has. There's
[7:53] Speaker 5: no question about that. Well, actually, he's played 102 games overall,
[7:55] Speaker 5: 66 of them. have been as a starter, but that's
[8:03] Speaker 5: just games he's played in. We're not even talking about
[8:05] Speaker 5: games he never appeared in and was holding a clipboard.
[8:08] Speaker 5: When I think of Jacoby Percet, I think of more
[8:10] Speaker 5: of a career backup than I do a starter, but
[8:13] Speaker 5: he does have 66 starts. He's got a 21-45 record
[8:17] Speaker 5: as a starting quarterback.
[8:19] Speaker 6: I mean, how much should we fear this guy?
[8:22] Speaker 5: I mean, if the Hawks can do to Drake May
[8:24] Speaker 5: what they've done the last eight quarters, you would think
[8:27] Speaker 5: they'd be able to have some success this Sunday in Arizona.
[8:31] Speaker 7: Well, I think he's feeling pretty confident. You know, they
[8:34] Speaker 7: executed their game plan. I mean, here we're talking about
[8:37] Speaker 7: the battle of the backups, the ranking for big time
[8:42] Speaker 7: throw percentage. Drew Locke comes out of the weekend. He
[8:46] Speaker 7: was number three in the NFL. What does a big
[8:49] Speaker 7: time throw mean?
[8:49] Speaker 4: What does that mean?
[8:50] Speaker 7: Well, it's a little bit subjective, but it's, you know,
[8:53] Speaker 7: pushing the ball down the field to a relatively tight window. And,
[8:57] Speaker 7: you know, just kind of what you would say, like, whoa,
[8:59] Speaker 7: that's a big time throw.
[9:00] Speaker 2: Right.
[9:02] Speaker 5: Is there actually a guy sitting there in an office
[9:06] Speaker 5: and they all look to him to see his reaction?
[9:08] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[9:09] Speaker 8: Yeah.
[9:09] Speaker 7: And you go to a holiday party and you're sharing
[9:11] Speaker 7: eggnog and you say, what do you do? And you go,
[9:13] Speaker 7: I tally big time throws. Sounds like a cool job.
[9:16] Speaker 6: All right.
[9:17] Speaker 5: Yeah, well, you know, going back to those defensive lapses,
[9:19] Speaker 5: so I got it in front of me. So the
[9:20] Speaker 5: second and 19 was the same drive as the Pritchett
[9:24] Speaker 5: interception that was tipped up by, what's his nuts, the
[9:28] Speaker 5: guy they brought from the practice squad. Come on, help
[9:30] Speaker 5: me out here. The guy that tipped the ball into
[9:32] Speaker 5: Pritchett's hand. Is it Thomas, Rodney Thomas? No, no, no,
[9:36] Speaker 5: Rodney Thomas, the safety, yeah, yeah. Yeah, Thomas. So that
[9:39] Speaker 5: was the Pritchett interception play, or drive. And then second
[9:42] Speaker 5: and 21, and third and 19, to fourth and nine,
[9:46] Speaker 5: where they converted on that. That was the final pick
[9:48] Speaker 5: of the game by Josh Jobe. So both of those
[9:51] Speaker 5: drives ended well, but you're wondering, like, what's going on?
[9:55] Speaker 5: And how much, honestly, looking back, do you feel those drives...
[10:00] Speaker 5: may have ended earlier if Nicky Manwari and or Ty
[10:04] Speaker 5: Okada were on the field?
[10:09] Speaker 7: I think that they're a much better defense with Nicky Manwari.
[10:13] Speaker 7: You know, he can just cover so much ground. He
[10:15] Speaker 7: can cover all personnel, you know, Big guys, quick guys,
[10:20] Speaker 7: strong guys, what have you. He can play out in
[10:24] Speaker 7: the slot. He can play in the box. Now, the
[10:27] Speaker 7: one thing, 3% of his plays were in the back
[10:31] Speaker 7: end as a safety. There's an S next to his name,
[10:35] Speaker 7: but that's only... They have that term in politics, a rhino.
[10:40] Speaker 7: He's a sign-o. He's a safety in name only. The
[10:45] Speaker 7: guy plays like a nickel... linebacker. Some people call that
[10:50] Speaker 7: the star, the nickel. If you walked up to Nick
[10:53] Speaker 7: Saban at an airport and you said, who's the best
[10:55] Speaker 7: star you've ever had? He would know exactly what you're
[10:58] Speaker 7: talking about. And so he plays that position. It's a
[11:00] Speaker 7: versatile position. And so I'm all in on Nicky Minori.
[11:06] Speaker 7: And it's almost like you don't even know the impact
[11:11] Speaker 7: that he has and how it reverberates to everybody else
[11:14] Speaker 7: because of all the things that he can do. You
[11:16] Speaker 7: can play You can play two high safety structures and
[11:19] Speaker 7: you could say, OK, balls on the left hash. You know,
[11:23] Speaker 7: we'll we'll put we will put Drake Thomas to the boundary.
[11:28] Speaker 7: But let's have Nick Amon worry to the field and
[11:30] Speaker 7: we'll play a coverage where both safeties are back and
[11:34] Speaker 7: he's got to stay. He's got a line on inside
[11:37] Speaker 7: shade of the slot receivers. And he's got to, first
[11:42] Speaker 7: and foremost, deny the slant from the slot receiver. That's
[11:45] Speaker 7: the number one thing that can kill him. But then
[11:48] Speaker 7: he's got to be able to match to the flat
[11:51] Speaker 7: any what's called new number two with the tight end
[11:54] Speaker 7: or the running back or a slot receiver. Anybody who
[11:58] Speaker 7: then goes to the flat, he's got to match that
[12:01] Speaker 7: in space with no help, depending on how the route
[12:04] Speaker 7: progression is going. And then all of a sudden you
[12:06] Speaker 7: freeze the tape and you go, that's a big strain there.
[12:10] Speaker 7: on a 220 pound linebacker, you know, safety, uh, to
[12:14] Speaker 7: be able to have him make those plays in space.
[12:17] Speaker 7: But then you let the video play out and you go, wow,
[12:19] Speaker 7: beautiful angle. Well, he, he hit the turbo bond button.
[12:22] Speaker 7: He got that guy on the ground and you know,
[12:24] Speaker 7: it's second and eight and that's a hell of a play. Like, and,
[12:27] Speaker 7: and so when I say there's an effect, Mike McDonald
[12:31] Speaker 7: could call that defense against that formation again on that
[12:34] Speaker 7: hash because, and then he could have everybody else, uh,
[12:38] Speaker 7: you know, you know, have their attention, uh, you know,
[12:41] Speaker 7: directed towards stopping everybody else. And you're saying, well, who's, who,
[12:44] Speaker 7: who's the big ask? Where's the big ask? Well, the
[12:46] Speaker 7: big ask is on number three, but he can handle it.
[12:49] Speaker 7: And so, um, so I think that his effect, it, it,
[12:54] Speaker 7: it's far more than what shows up in the, in the, uh,
[12:57] Speaker 7: in the box court. I absolutely agree. You know, convinced
[13:01] Speaker 7: in that, and you would be too if I could
[13:03] Speaker 7: just draw it up on a whiteboard and show you
[13:04] Speaker 7: some tape.
[13:05] Speaker 6: Oh, I believe you. I really do.
[13:07] Speaker 5: I didn't at first, but now I do. So what
[13:09] Speaker 5: about Drew Locke, right? Like, how much does the offense
[13:12] Speaker 5: need to change? How much do you need to maybe,
[13:15] Speaker 5: you know, give him access to a portion of the
[13:18] Speaker 5: playbook that maybe fits his skill, fits his talent on Sunday?
[13:24] Speaker 7: Well, let me get to that, but I'm going to
[13:26] Speaker 7: first say, I watched the entire tape of the chargers
[13:28] Speaker 7: offense against the Cardinal defense to see like what the
[13:32] Speaker 7: hell happened. And, uh, they've got a new coordinator and
[13:36] Speaker 7: Mike McDaniel, he comes over from the dolphins.
[13:38] Speaker 2: Right. Right.
[13:40] Speaker 7: And there were some of the goofiest ass ship going on,
[13:44] Speaker 7: on that, uh, on that. You don't have to dump it.
[13:48] Speaker 7: You know, there's, there's, there's, you know, there's some, some
[13:50] Speaker 7: ships are kind of goofy, uh, as they float along. So, um,
[13:54] Speaker 7: watching their formations. There was a number of times where
[13:58] Speaker 7: guys were five yards behind the line of scrimmage, but
[14:00] Speaker 7: they're outside of the core of the formation. And they're
[14:03] Speaker 7: running vertical routes. It takes them a second and a
[14:06] Speaker 7: half just to get to the line of scrimmage. That's dumb.
[14:08] Speaker 7: The way they go in motion and insert between the
[14:10] Speaker 7: guard and the tackle on a stretch. Then three guys
[14:14] Speaker 7: end up blocking one guy, and then the middle linebacker
[14:16] Speaker 7: comes flying through and nobody sees him. These crazy whirlybird formations.
[14:20] Speaker 7: So there's all kinds of stuff. I think Mike McDaniel...
[14:24] Speaker 7: the office coordinator was more concerned with impressing Jim Harbaugh
[14:29] Speaker 7: with his creativity than, than creating a game plan that
[14:32] Speaker 7: actually worked.
[14:33] Speaker 4: Wow.
[14:33] Speaker 6: That's a pretty heavy accusation, pal.
[14:35] Speaker 1: Wow.
[14:36] Speaker 6: How about that?
[14:36] Speaker 7: I'm not in his head.
[14:37] Speaker 6: I'm just saying, that's what it looks like.
[14:39] Speaker 4: Right.
[14:40] Speaker 8: Right.
[14:40] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[14:41] Speaker 7: And, and now a couple of things, let's, let's look
[14:45] Speaker 7: at it from the Cardinal perspectives. Cause we'll talk about
[14:47] Speaker 7: the chargers when on their game in October 4th, they're
[14:50] Speaker 7: playing the Cardinals this Sunday. So Mack Wilson, uh, the
[14:53] Speaker 7: middle linebacker, hell of a game. I mean, he knocked out, um, uh,
[14:58] Speaker 7: Oh God, uh, who McConkie, you know, on a ball
[15:01] Speaker 7: over the middle, uh, you know, just great play. Uh,
[15:04] Speaker 7: he was shooting gaps. And so, so.
[15:06] Speaker 6: Jersey, number one.
[15:07] Speaker 7: We're not used to seeing middle linebackers with number one,
[15:10] Speaker 7: but he's a guy. Ray Lopez, interior lineman. The guards
[15:15] Speaker 7: for the Chargers. Now, they have Slater on the one
[15:19] Speaker 7: side and then Alt on the other. The tackles for
[15:21] Speaker 7: the Chargers are elite. Their guards are just, whoa, really struggling.
[15:26] Speaker 7: And it was really difficult for the offense to run.
[15:32] Speaker 7: That's how bad the guards were for the Chargers.
[15:35] Speaker 4: So.
[15:36] Speaker 7: in like kind, you'd say, okay, how are we doing, uh,
[15:39] Speaker 7: at guard? You know, you got crazy ball on the
[15:40] Speaker 7: one side.
[15:41] Speaker 6: Um, and, and now Bradford may be out. It might be,
[15:44] Speaker 6: it might be Haynes.
[15:46] Speaker 7: If I'm in, am I, am I going to do
[15:48] Speaker 7: a football Friday with you? And I'm going to actually
[15:51] Speaker 7: express concern that Anthony Bradford might not play. Like, I
[15:54] Speaker 7: don't think that that's a bridge too far for me, but, um,
[15:58] Speaker 7: but the, you know, there, there may be some truth
[16:01] Speaker 7: to that. So let's watch on that. Um, you asked me, Dave,
[16:05] Speaker 7: What does Drew Locke have to do? First and foremost,
[16:08] Speaker 7: probably his involvement cost him eight points in terms of
[16:13] Speaker 7: the mechanics of being a quarterback. He's up the line
[16:16] Speaker 7: second and inches. You're at the three-yard line. He just
[16:18] Speaker 7: had a beautiful 14-yard run on, obviously, I think it
[16:23] Speaker 7: was after a penalty, so it must have been first
[16:26] Speaker 7: and 15. And then he's up there looking at his wristband,
[16:29] Speaker 7: and they get a delay game. The touchdown, which is
[16:32] Speaker 7: a beautiful touchdown, design structure by Brian Flory, he gets
[16:39] Speaker 7: the touchdown, and yet it's a legal motion.
[16:43] Speaker 6: To Cooper Cup, right.
[16:44] Speaker 7: To Cooper Cup, yeah. So he's got a– it was
[16:47] Speaker 7: a can play, and so you had Helani to the
[16:50] Speaker 7: right side, and you say, okay, can, can, can. So
[16:54] Speaker 7: now Helani's got to go to the left. Well, before
[16:56] Speaker 7: he sends Cooper Cup in motion or on his shift,
[16:59] Speaker 7: he's got to make sure Helani's set for a second. That, that,
[17:02] Speaker 7: that's mechanics that he would, he would just go, oh
[17:04] Speaker 7: my God, you know, if I did this in eighth grade,
[17:06] Speaker 7: I would, my coach would be upset and I'd be
[17:09] Speaker 7: more upset at myself. So yet this can happen in
[17:12] Speaker 7: an NFL game. When you're talking about all this stuff,
[17:14] Speaker 7: they weren't canning plays in eighth grade, likely, you know,
[17:17] Speaker 7: you know, so there's a lot on your plate. You're
[17:19] Speaker 7: thinking about stuff. There's, there's high volume and And you're
[17:23] Speaker 7: about to call a play you haven't practiced. Those were
[17:26] Speaker 7: all Sam Darnold's reps. So maybe you haven't practiced that,
[17:30] Speaker 7: at least with this personnel. And then next thing is
[17:33] Speaker 7: you commit a middle schooler's mistake and you don't let
[17:37] Speaker 7: guys get set and you get a touchdown callback in
[17:40] Speaker 7: both of those instances. The Seahawks kicked field goals instead
[17:43] Speaker 7: of scored the touchdowns. And so the Nets, you know,
[17:46] Speaker 7: eight points. So that could be a lot in this game.
[17:49] Speaker 6: Sure, totally. Well, let's come back. Let's talk some dogs.
[17:53] Speaker 5: I want to get your thoughts on all the hubbub
[17:55] Speaker 5: with Steve Sarkeesian and Holly Rowe at the Texas-Ohio State
[17:58] Speaker 5: game a week ago. More on the Cardinals game on Sunday.
[18:02] Speaker 5: And how much can we really take you, thank you,
[18:05] Speaker 5: from this game with Eastern tomorrow? More with Hugh Millen
[18:07] Speaker 5: next on 93.3 KJRFM. Now back to.
[18:13] Speaker 2: The Washington State Beef Commission's Football Friday with Softie and
[18:16] Speaker 2: Dick on your home for the NFL.
[18:19] Speaker 6: Sports Radio 93.3 KJR FM.
[18:26] Speaker 5: All right, we're back on a Washington State Beef Commission's
[18:29] Speaker 5: Football Friday. Football Fridays are brought to you by Washington's
[18:33] Speaker 5: Beef Farmers and Ranchers.
[18:34] Speaker 6: Beef, it's what's for dinner. You want to find out more,
[18:37] Speaker 6: get to the website.
[18:38] Speaker 5: Recipes and more, wabeef.org on the internet. A couple of
[18:42] Speaker 5: college football games, Huey in progress right now. Number 22,
[18:46] Speaker 5: Houston at Texas Tech, 9-0 late first quarter. Miami Wake Forest,
[18:52] Speaker 5: Darian Mensah has begun 15-15 for $ 1.
[18:56] Speaker 6: 43 and a couple touchdowns.
[18:58] Speaker 5: And the Hurricanes lead Jake Dickert and Wake Forest 14-7
[19:02] Speaker 5: mid-second quarter from Carolina. Before we get back to the Hawks,
[19:07] Speaker 5: I want to go back to the conversation we had, Hugh,
[19:10] Speaker 5: with Jed Fish at 4.30 a.m. I don't know if
[19:13] Speaker 5: you caught that or not, but I asked Jed Fish,
[19:15] Speaker 5: I want to get your response to this. If because
[19:17] Speaker 5: of where the run game is at right now, and
[19:21] Speaker 5: you know where the run game is at for you, Dub,
[19:22] Speaker 5: it's a big nothing burger right now. I want to
[19:25] Speaker 5: ask about whether or not he's considering playing maybe and
[19:29] Speaker 5: calling for more design runs from DeMond Williams. There was
[19:33] Speaker 5: also a story, Hugh, that came out a couple days
[19:35] Speaker 5: ago talking about NIL and how much teams are paying
[19:38] Speaker 5: their rosters in college football.
[19:40] Speaker 6: Uh, I got Jed's response to both those questions. Check
[19:43] Speaker 6: this out.
[19:44] Speaker 4: Are you comfortable calling more design runs for number one?
[19:48] Speaker 8: Um, Not yet, because I don't think any one of
[19:54] Speaker 8: us want to have the conversation about, you know, too
[19:57] Speaker 8: much exposure. I kind of like Ben Johnson's plan on
[20:01] Speaker 8: use Caleb. The way he used Caleb with, what, eight
[20:04] Speaker 8: scrambles for 100 yards?
[20:05] Speaker 2: Right.
[20:06] Speaker 8: And then maybe one or two design runs. I think
[20:08] Speaker 8: that's kind of more of what we're looking for. Patrick
[20:10] Speaker 8: Mahomes comes off of an ACL and scrambles in for
[20:13] Speaker 8: a touchdown, but that wasn't a design run. I think
[20:16] Speaker 8: with DeMond, there'll be some design runs. But for the
[20:19] Speaker 8: most part, we're going to continue to let him use
[20:21] Speaker 8: his feet to his advantage on scrambles.
[20:23] Speaker 4: All right, last one before you go. We've talked about NIL,
[20:25] Speaker 4: you and me, a lot.
[20:26] Speaker 3: The Athletic came out with a story, probably saw it yesterday,
[20:29] Speaker 3: on what college football teams are spending on They've got
[20:32] Speaker 3: UW 13th in the Big Ten and I believe 29th
[20:36] Speaker 3: out of 34 in the Big Ten and the SEC combined.
[20:40] Speaker 4: Do those numbers feel accurate to you?
[20:42] Speaker 8: Yeah, they might be a little high, but yeah, I
[20:44] Speaker 8: think they're accurate. It would probably be a little bit less,
[20:49] Speaker 8: I would guess, in the Big Ten, if that's what
[20:51] Speaker 8: the number is from what I understand. And yeah, I
[20:53] Speaker 8: had us about 30th in the Big Ten and SEC
[20:56] Speaker 8: combined out of the 34. So, you know, that's part
[20:59] Speaker 8: of this process. And that's real. We can't shy away
[21:02] Speaker 8: from it.
[21:03] Speaker 4: Right. Yeah, Jed, good stuff. We'll talk Saturday.
[21:05] Speaker 2: Thanks, man.
[21:05] Speaker 8: Appreciate it.
[21:06] Speaker 6: Hugh, you want to weigh in on that?
[21:07] Speaker 5: The first question about DeMond Williams, he says, no, we're
[21:10] Speaker 5: not going down that road yet because we don't want
[21:13] Speaker 5: to get the guy killed, number one. And then number two,
[21:16] Speaker 5: the article that came out yesterday or two days ago
[21:19] Speaker 5: talking about how much teams are paying their players.
[21:22] Speaker 3: Sure.
[21:22] Speaker 7: In that order, well, I do think it's interesting when
[21:25] Speaker 7: you asked him about the fourth down play at the
[21:29] Speaker 7: end of the second quarter against Washington State, and you
[21:33] Speaker 7: expressed your angst about being in shotgun on that. And
[21:38] Speaker 7: he said, well, we're going to stay in shotgun because
[21:41] Speaker 7: our quarterback is a threat to run, which is sound.
[21:46] Speaker 7: There's a hell of a lot of teams in college
[21:47] Speaker 7: football that feel the same way. But then it would
[21:51] Speaker 7: seemingly be somewhat at odds with the idea, okay, we
[21:54] Speaker 7: need to protect them. Now, I would say it's not–
[21:58] Speaker 7: all quarterback runs are not the same.
[22:01] Speaker 6: Correct.
[22:02] Speaker 7: If you run what's called Q power, you want to
[22:05] Speaker 7: pull the guard and you fit up in the B
[22:07] Speaker 7: gap and your quarterback is running straight downhill and he's
[22:10] Speaker 7: got linebackers from the inside, linebackers from the outside, safety.
[22:14] Speaker 7: That's a lot more of a pounding. But if you
[22:17] Speaker 7: put him in the shotgun– and let's say you put
[22:20] Speaker 7: trips to the right and the alley to the left
[22:23] Speaker 7: is kind of wide open, and then you say, okay,
[22:26] Speaker 7: read zone. You watch the defensive end from your left, Amon.
[22:30] Speaker 7: If he really closes that door like a door hinge,
[22:33] Speaker 7: that outside hip closes down, then you pull the ball,
[22:38] Speaker 7: keep it in the alley, you know, depending– make sure that,
[22:41] Speaker 7: you know, the safety's not coming down in some type
[22:43] Speaker 7: of rotation. But if you have an alley, just go–
[22:49] Speaker 7: take that alley, and now you're away from the major combat.
[22:53] Speaker 7: And then when the secondary comes to tackle you, if
[22:56] Speaker 7: you feel like you can't make a move and a
[22:58] Speaker 7: couple guys are converging on you, then just slide.
[23:00] Speaker 2: Right.
[23:01] Speaker 7: So I do think there's a way. Russell Wilson is
[23:04] Speaker 7: the best I've ever seen at protecting his body on
[23:06] Speaker 7: stuff like that. In the prime of his career, he
[23:09] Speaker 7: had no ego. And he was stockier than DeMond, but
[23:13] Speaker 7: not as quick and twitchy as DeMond. pretty damn twitchy,
[23:17] Speaker 7: but not demand twitchy. So I would be okay just saying, Hey, listen, uh,
[23:23] Speaker 7: the most important of the, you know, I'm, uh, you've
[23:26] Speaker 7: heard this saying, you know, the most important ability is availability.
[23:28] Speaker 7: We need you available.
[23:30] Speaker 2: Right.
[23:30] Speaker 7: But by the same token, Hey, if you, if that
[23:32] Speaker 7: light is bright green, take it.
[23:34] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[23:35] Speaker 7: Just protect your body.
[23:36] Speaker 6: And guess what?
[23:37] Speaker 7: Your body sliding is more important than getting a first down.
[23:40] Speaker 5: And then just real quick, I mean, just talking about
[23:43] Speaker 5: that shotgun play on fourth down that we talked about,
[23:46] Speaker 5: one question would be about the volume of plays, and
[23:50] Speaker 5: the other one would be just about the formation of
[23:53] Speaker 5: a particular situation.
[23:55] Speaker 8: Right.
[23:55] Speaker 5: Like, I mean, I'm not talking about running DeMond Williams 25,
[23:59] Speaker 5: 30 times a game, but I also don't like the
[24:02] Speaker 5: idea of him being in the option on fourth and
[24:05] Speaker 5: one from the goal line. And Jed does. Jed doesn't
[24:10] Speaker 5: want to run a more per se, but he does
[24:12] Speaker 5: like that particular formation in that particular situation.
[24:15] Speaker 2: Right.
[24:16] Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah.
[24:16] Speaker 7: Well, I mean, you know, for me, I've given a
[24:19] Speaker 7: lot of thought through the years and the decades. I mean,
[24:22] Speaker 7: I love the option to the weak side of the
[24:25] Speaker 7: formation because you're depending on the front. Let's say it's
[24:31] Speaker 7: an over front. The tackle comes down on the one
[24:33] Speaker 7: tech and then and he gets the will and if
[24:36] Speaker 7: he can get to the will. And let's say your
[24:38] Speaker 7: corner is in a press and your ex-receiver can just
[24:41] Speaker 7: run him off on a fade because the corner is
[24:44] Speaker 7: reading the fade and the strength of the defense is
[24:47] Speaker 7: going over to the trip side. And then you just
[24:51] Speaker 7: leave the end unblocked because, as I said, the tackle
[24:53] Speaker 7: to that side, he blocks down and then up on
[24:56] Speaker 7: the will.
[24:56] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[24:57] Speaker 7: All you have to do is option off the end.
[24:59] Speaker 7: And everybody says, well, you're doing it in the weak side.
[25:02] Speaker 7: This is the big asterisk. It's into the weak side
[25:05] Speaker 7: but away from the tight end.
[25:06] Speaker 4: Right.
[25:08] Speaker 7: That's the bigger point for me. I'll die on a
[25:10] Speaker 7: beach on that.
[25:10] Speaker 6: For example, the play in the Apple Cup, you would
[25:13] Speaker 6: have liked it if it was away from the tight end.
[25:15] Speaker 7: Everybody in the Apple Cup with Will Rogers said, into
[25:19] Speaker 7: the weak side. I didn't have a problem with going
[25:21] Speaker 7: to the weak side. I had a problem going to
[25:23] Speaker 7: the weak side where the tight end was also there
[25:26] Speaker 7: because it flattens the angle. You know, there's only 20
[25:28] Speaker 7: yards from the hash mark to the sideline, exactly 20 yards.
[25:32] Speaker 7: And so when you put that tight end, you're bringing
[25:34] Speaker 7: more bodies and you change it to a flatter angle
[25:37] Speaker 7: for the quarterback. He's got to attack the inside armpit
[25:41] Speaker 7: of the end man on the line of scrimmage, but
[25:43] Speaker 7: it's wider because that tight end is widened out. Sure.
[25:46] Speaker 7: Angles break down, the space breaks down, but, but yeah,
[25:49] Speaker 7: if a weak side, a quick option is, I love it.
[25:54] Speaker 6: Got it.
[25:54] Speaker 7: Again, based on, on, you know, the right front and
[25:58] Speaker 7: the right coverage, but that's why you set the formation
[26:00] Speaker 7: to the field and you run, run the, the, uh, the,
[26:03] Speaker 7: the speed option into the boundary. Um, yeah, those are,
[26:07] Speaker 7: that's good stuff.
[26:08] Speaker 5: Uh, Hey, before we get to some other random topics,
[26:11] Speaker 5: I want to talk about the LSU Ole Miss game tomorrow.
[26:14] Speaker 5: I'm sure you saw Lane Kiffin with this, uh, you know,
[26:17] Speaker 5: Tom foolery about Sam Leavitt and the, injury update and
[26:20] Speaker 5: then get your thoughts on what happened with Sark last
[26:22] Speaker 5: weekend in Austin.
[26:23] Speaker 6: But the question I asked Jed there about the NIL,
[26:26] Speaker 6: you know, I had him 29th. He's got him 30th.
[26:29] Speaker 5: We can haggle about the ranking, but either way, the
[26:32] Speaker 5: point is that UW is not where they need to be.
[26:34] Speaker 5: I mean, we're hanging out with teams like Northwestern, Rutgers,
[26:38] Speaker 5: Minnesota at the bottom of the conference. And if we
[26:41] Speaker 5: are going to talk about this two-conference Super League, they're
[26:45] Speaker 5: near the bottom of the SEC and the Big Ten combined.
[26:48] Speaker 5: So not surprising for me, Hugh, you and I have
[26:51] Speaker 5: talked about this, that we don't know exactly how fans
[26:54] Speaker 5: in this region would react to something like that when
[26:57] Speaker 5: they're asked to do more and play a bigger part financially.
[27:02] Speaker 5: There's a lot of money in this town, but a
[27:04] Speaker 5: lot of money in this town doesn't mean a lot
[27:05] Speaker 5: of money from sports fans that want.
[27:08] Speaker 6: To give it to UW. Those are two totally different things.
[27:11] Speaker 5: So how concerned were you when you saw that report
[27:14] Speaker 5: that came out two days ago?
[27:16] Speaker 7: Well, it's got to be better, right? But it's something
[27:19] Speaker 7: that I've said all along to you and others that–
[27:25] Speaker 7: it the whole structure of the Super League has never
[27:29] Speaker 7: made sense there's a there's a fundamental problem with the
[27:32] Speaker 7: scaffolding of that because you're taking all the teams the
[27:36] Speaker 7: idea of being you're taking all the teams that have
[27:39] Speaker 7: been successful because they are the ones that have the
[27:42] Speaker 7: market juice right and and and yet traditionally how did
[27:46] Speaker 7: they get to that position because they won all those
[27:49] Speaker 7: games you know USC had to win a lot of
[27:52] Speaker 7: games against Oregon State to you know and and and
[27:55] Speaker 7: cows and what have you. And Ohio state had to
[27:57] Speaker 7: beat Purdue a lot. And, you know, and Alabama had
[28:00] Speaker 7: to beat Vanderbilt a lot. So if all the teams
[28:02] Speaker 7: that are accustomed to winning, if they all join a conference, Well,
[28:07] Speaker 7: we know that half of them are going to be
[28:08] Speaker 7: losers after a decade or two decades, right? And then
[28:12] Speaker 7: now all of a sudden the fan base, they got
[28:13] Speaker 7: used to winning and giving at a level of expectation that, hey,
[28:18] Speaker 7: if I give, I'm going to see these results. Well,
[28:21] Speaker 7: half of them are not going to see those results.
[28:23] Speaker 7: And so that's related to the question that you're talking
[28:27] Speaker 7: about now. You also can say Jetfish, it's a narrow
[28:33] Speaker 7: line he's got to walk because– you know, in the
[28:36] Speaker 7: middle of a season, are people going to perceive that you're,
[28:39] Speaker 7: you're making excuses and the people I'm most concerned about
[28:43] Speaker 7: are the players, right. Uh, you know, that, Oh, coach
[28:45] Speaker 7: has already, you know, so, cause he would want to,
[28:49] Speaker 7: his message to his players is, Hey, we got the,
[28:53] Speaker 7: we got the horses right in this locker room to
[28:55] Speaker 7: go to the playoff. Like you're, you're trying to infuse, uh, uh, uh,
[29:00] Speaker 7: confidence in the team. And then, If you're saying then,
[29:04] Speaker 7: and I understand why he would say it. Would you
[29:05] Speaker 7: rather not have him admit that, that they're 30th? I
[29:08] Speaker 7: think there's an argument to be made there. Now, the
[29:11] Speaker 7: argument from his perspective is, hey, we got to nudge
[29:15] Speaker 7: some people and have them face reality. But there's an argument.
[29:20] Speaker 7: That's why I said it's a fine line he has
[29:22] Speaker 7: to walk. I understand the objective that he would have
[29:25] Speaker 7: to let everybody know that he's got one hand tied
[29:29] Speaker 7: behind his back. Everybody needs to know that. Um, but
[29:33] Speaker 7: then there's the other part of it is that, that
[29:38] Speaker 7: the players that that is probably inconsistent with the message
[29:44] Speaker 7: he's trying to sell his players. He's trying to tell
[29:47] Speaker 7: his players that he loves his players and that they
[29:50] Speaker 7: have all the juice they ever could need right there
[29:53] Speaker 7: in that locker room to make a run.
[29:54] Speaker 5: Well, the other side of that coin, I guess, is that, hey,
[29:57] Speaker 5: if you guys go out and kick ass and play well,
[29:59] Speaker 5: you might be in for a big raise over the
[30:00] Speaker 5: offseason because there's more money to be spent, apparently.
[30:03] Speaker 7: Jed's a smart guy, so I think if he can
[30:05] Speaker 7: work that angle, he'll do it.
[30:07] Speaker 5: Let's do this. I got to get a take from
[30:09] Speaker 5: you on this LSU Ole Miss game tomorrow. I got
[30:11] Speaker 5: to get a take from you on this Sark situation
[30:13] Speaker 5: with Holly Rowe. And, hey, by the way, it's a miracle.
[30:16] Speaker 5: Sam Levitt has drank the holy water. He has gone
[30:20] Speaker 5: from doubtful to questionable to now off.
[30:23] Speaker 6: The injury report.
[30:24] Speaker 5: He is starting tomorrow's game for LSU. This is what happens, Hugh,
[30:28] Speaker 5: when you have faith, okay? We're going to break, come back,
[30:30] Speaker 5: and talk about all of it next on 93.3 KJRFM.
[30:36] Speaker 1: This is Duke of Duke Seafood, and this hour is
[30:38] Speaker 1: brought to you by Duke Seafood. Why don't you make
[30:40] Speaker 1: it a Duke's night tonight? Reserve your table today at dukesseafood.com. Now,
[30:45] Speaker 1: back to Softie and Dick. on Sports Radio 93.3 KJR FM.
[30:50] Speaker 5: All right, well, we got a big one, Hugh, coming
[30:52] Speaker 5: up this weekend. Cardinal Seahawks Sunday, 125. It's the Emerald
[30:56] Speaker 5: Queen Casino Showroom Sportsbook for that bad boy. Tomorrow, though,
[31:00] Speaker 5: 430 LSU Ole Miss, Eastern UW 415.
[31:03] Speaker 6: But I got to get your thoughts, dude, on the.
[31:07] Speaker 5: LSU, excuse me, Texas-Ohio State game last weekend, but nothing
[31:11] Speaker 5: to do with the game. You saw the drama coming
[31:13] Speaker 5: out of the Sark interview, or lack thereof, with Holly
[31:16] Speaker 5: Rowe right at halftime. The ESPN taking their sweet-ass time,
[31:20] Speaker 5: and Sark had to go. He had the second-half prep
[31:23] Speaker 5: to get to, and I totally get that, man. These
[31:24] Speaker 5: guys can't wait around forever. ESPN really kind of owned
[31:28] Speaker 5: that and admitted that they were wrong about that, but
[31:30] Speaker 5: then post-game... you know, they go to him and I
[31:34] Speaker 5: don't know, he kind of flipped out and showed.
[31:36] Speaker 6: The horns and ran off to the locker room.
[31:38] Speaker 5: And then the AI video that came out of, you know,
[31:41] Speaker 5: Sark smacking Holly row across the face that Arch Manning
[31:44] Speaker 5: kind of had some fun with and people got mad
[31:46] Speaker 5: at him. He had to apologize for it. What'd you
[31:49] Speaker 5: make of that whole, the whole scene down there last week?
[31:52] Speaker 7: Well, I think Sark should have stayed and done the interview.
[31:56] Speaker 7: He's not the first coach to be, you know, wish
[31:59] Speaker 7: he could be celebrating and, and have to experience technical difficulties,
[32:03] Speaker 7: I'm sure. Now, as it pertains to Arch Manning, people
[32:08] Speaker 7: getting upset with him, I would just say, okay, so
[32:13] Speaker 7: what are we going to do? Let's work backwards. We're
[32:15] Speaker 7: going to draw the conclusion that Arch Manning condones violence
[32:21] Speaker 7: against women because he laughed at that AI. I'm sorry,
[32:27] Speaker 7: I don't make that connection. It's obviously fake. To me,
[32:33] Speaker 7: it would be, and we're kind of in this, we
[32:35] Speaker 7: have this brief window that for a couple of years now,
[32:39] Speaker 7: and we're in the window where AI is really just
[32:42] Speaker 7: a new thing. And people can do just about anything.
[32:47] Speaker 7: I mean, to me, this is not a hell of
[32:49] Speaker 7: a lot different than AI. You know, Wile E. Coyote
[32:52] Speaker 7: and Roadrunner came in in 1949 and TV was coming
[32:56] Speaker 7: in in the 50s. And so, you know, like if
[32:59] Speaker 7: you laugh at that, are you saying that you condone violence,
[33:03] Speaker 7: you know, pushing people off cliffs and anvils and all that? No, no,
[33:07] Speaker 7: it's obviously not real. And I would just say I
[33:10] Speaker 7: put it in another category. I've laughed at a racist joke.
[33:15] Speaker 7: And the person, the people that have told those jokes
[33:18] Speaker 7: are Richard Pryor. Eddie Murphy, Chris Rock, Dave Chappelle, Wanda Sykes,
[33:24] Speaker 7: et cetera. Like given a certain, you know, flair about it,
[33:30] Speaker 7: you know, they're the ones, they're telling jokes about black
[33:33] Speaker 7: people and black stereotypes. And they're trying to make us
[33:36] Speaker 7: white people laugh along with the black people. And so
[33:40] Speaker 7: I just think that there's a, some people are waking
[33:46] Speaker 7: up and they're dying to be offended. And I think
[33:49] Speaker 7: that the people that were on Arch Manning about this
[33:52] Speaker 7: are in that category. Now, if Arch Manning truly did
[33:57] Speaker 7: condone violence against women, that would be a big problem.
[34:01] Speaker 7: It'd be a big problem for Arch Manning, big problem
[34:03] Speaker 7: for Texas. I don't even think that should be stated.
[34:07] Speaker 7: But but to draw the conclusion that he does.
[34:10] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[34:11] Speaker 7: I think is kind of absurd based on all this.
[34:14] Speaker 7: And the problem is it takes our eye. There are
[34:17] Speaker 7: things that we all should unite to condemn and that
[34:21] Speaker 7: are truly offensive, and they're offensive for all the wrong
[34:24] Speaker 7: reasons because there's hate behind it. But when we water
[34:28] Speaker 7: down what offends us, then all of a sudden we
[34:31] Speaker 7: lose our capacity to unite against things that truly do
[34:35] Speaker 7: deserve our collective condemnation. And so I think this is
[34:39] Speaker 7: a silly scenario. Now, if I'm wrong, if somehow you're
[34:43] Speaker 7: going to give me other evidence that Arch Manning is
[34:46] Speaker 7: chauvinist or sexist or condones violence against women, I'll change
[34:50] Speaker 7: my tune.
[34:51] Speaker 4: Right.
[34:51] Speaker 7: But I'm not going to buy into the idea that
[34:53] Speaker 7: he condones violence against women because of an AI thing
[34:56] Speaker 7: that was obviously fake.
[34:58] Speaker 5: Well, tomorrow, LSU Ole Miss, and I got to tell you, man,
[35:01] Speaker 5: you know how they have like these heat maps where
[35:03] Speaker 5: they show you who's rooting for who across the country, whatever.
[35:06] Speaker 5: If there was a heat map across the country for
[35:09] Speaker 5: the LSU Ole Miss tomorrow, as far as who's rooting
[35:13] Speaker 5: for and against Lane Kiffin, the entire map would be
[35:17] Speaker 5: red except for one little white dot, and that's Baton Rouge, Louisiana,
[35:21] Speaker 5: rooting for Lane Kiffin tomorrow in this game with Ole Miss.
[35:25] Speaker 6: I've got to be honest with you.
[35:26] Speaker 5: We've got a game tomorrow with Eastern, so I'll be working,
[35:29] Speaker 5: but I can't wait to see the scene down there tomorrow.
[35:31] Speaker 7: Well, just think about the safety. there's, I can't wait.
[35:35] Speaker 7: Like what players are going to stand next to Lane Kiffin, man,
[35:39] Speaker 7: those LSU players like, Hey, Hey coach, you're on your own.
[35:43] Speaker 7: He's going to turn around coach. He's going to like, Whoa, Whoa.
[35:46] Speaker 7: Everybody's down at the 20 yard line hiding out, man.
[35:48] Speaker 7: Like the security, you know, I mean, look, if, if, if,
[35:54] Speaker 7: if we could have violence against political commentators, Charlie Kirk, right.
[36:02] Speaker 7: You know, the, I say that, but if you're in
[36:06] Speaker 7: charge of security, you have to, you have to work
[36:09] Speaker 7: with that level of, of concern.
[36:11] Speaker 4: Right.
[36:12] Speaker 2: Right.
[36:12] Speaker 7: And so, um, and now here's the other part about it, uh,
[36:15] Speaker 7: that we are all denouncing the NIL and paying players
[36:19] Speaker 7: and all this, and all this is this, this, this
[36:21] Speaker 7: crooked stuff and college football is going to hell in
[36:24] Speaker 7: the hand basketball.
[36:24] Speaker 6: Guess what?
[36:26] Speaker 7: Television. It's as popular as ever. There's 30 million people
[36:29] Speaker 7: watching Miami versus Indiana. And, and, Part of it is
[36:35] Speaker 7: every movie you've ever watched, now it doesn't necessarily have
[36:38] Speaker 7: a villain, but there's a conflict in every movie, right?
[36:42] Speaker 7: And Lane Kiffin is more than happy to be the
[36:48] Speaker 7: conflict in college football, to be the guy that everybody hates,
[36:53] Speaker 7: to be the guy that everybody has to overcome. It's
[36:55] Speaker 7: remarkable how comfortable he is in that position because he
[36:59] Speaker 7: just does things. over and over again that he knows
[37:02] Speaker 7: people are going to– like it's going to anger people
[37:04] Speaker 7: and piss people. And he just seems to relish it. Yeah,
[37:08] Speaker 7: but guess what the result is? Everybody's talking about him.
[37:11] Speaker 7: Everybody's talking about him. That's my point.
[37:14] Speaker 5: By the way, Hugh, just real quick because we've got
[37:16] Speaker 5: to run. Tickets for the Ole Miss game at Texas
[37:19] Speaker 5: on October 24th are $ 311 to get in the door.
[37:24] Speaker 5: Tickets for the LSU Ole Miss game tomorrow are $ 650.
[37:29] Speaker 4: To get in the door. There you go.
[37:30] Speaker 6: That's how crazy this game is. You've got to have
[37:32] Speaker 6: a conflict.
[37:33] Speaker 7: He's the conflict.
[37:33] Speaker 6: Listen, we've got to run. Great stuff, and we'll talk Monday,
[37:36] Speaker 6: all right?
[37:36] Speaker 8: All right.
[37:36] Speaker 6: Hugh Millen with us.
