[0:54] Speaker 2: Alright, normally 4 o'clock to 5 o'clock, but we gotta
[0:58] Speaker 2: pivot a little bit here on the radio show because
[1:01] Speaker 2: apparently Greg has things that are more important than us, Mario,
[1:04] Speaker 2: to get accomplished this afternoon, so.
[1:06] Speaker 3: I got a job, man.
[1:07] Speaker 2: We have accommodated our friend here and am willing to
[1:12] Speaker 2: give you a little bit of leeway here. Don't get
[1:13] Speaker 2: used to it, pal. Appreciate that. Because you are Greg Lewis,
[1:16] Speaker 2: by the way. Mario's getting whole days off and all that.
[1:19] Speaker 2: They sweat me about doing this a little harder. Well,
[1:22] Speaker 2: we got to bust your balls about something, right? So anyway,
[1:24] Speaker 2: it's great to have everybody here. Normally at 4 o'clock,
[1:27] Speaker 2: we'll go 3 to 4 with the Husky Honks. Brought
[1:29] Speaker 2: to you by our friends at Frost Brewed Coors Light.
[1:31] Speaker 2: As the Huskies come close. But cannot close the deal
[1:35] Speaker 2: against USC on Saturday night at a hot Coliseum, losing 25-21.
[1:39] Speaker 2: Got a chance to win the game late in the
[1:42] Speaker 2: fourth quarter. DeMond Williams takes a sack on third down
[1:45] Speaker 2: and then throws into quadruple coverage, it felt like, on
[1:48] Speaker 2: fourth down.
[1:49] Speaker 3: And the corner of the end zone, and USC gets
[1:51] Speaker 3: the win.
[1:51] Speaker 2: The Huskies now 3-2 overall, 0-2 in the Big Ten.
[1:55] Speaker 2: Jed Fisk drops to 0-4 versus ranked teams on the road,
[1:59] Speaker 2: and the Huskies now are kind of in it, right?
[2:01] Speaker 2: I mean, they got to get going here. They got
[2:03] Speaker 2: Iowa in town on Friday. obviously followed by a trip
[2:07] Speaker 2: to West Lafayette next Friday, a bye, and then Nebraska
[2:10] Speaker 2: on Halloween before we get to Penn State, Indiana, Oregon
[2:14] Speaker 2: coming through here in November.
[2:16] Speaker 3: So why don't we go around the room?
[2:18] Speaker 2: Mario, we'll start with you, okay, because you're not the
[2:21] Speaker 2: one making demands on this show today. We'll start with
[2:24] Speaker 2: you and get your thoughts on what you saw from
[2:25] Speaker 2: the Coliseum on Saturday.
[2:27] Speaker 3: Well, the first thing I think about is we ran
[2:29] Speaker 3: the ball.
[2:30] Speaker 4: I think we were even, almost even, 33 and 34
[2:33] Speaker 4: pass run, something like that. But that was great. I
[2:36] Speaker 4: thought we came out. DeMond Williams, I thought he did
[2:41] Speaker 4: a great job. He looked like he was competing. He
[2:44] Speaker 4: didn't play a great game, but he looked like he
[2:46] Speaker 4: was trying to compete. But the bottom line for offense
[2:49] Speaker 4: is like, again, we were one for 12 on third
[2:52] Speaker 4: down conversions.
[2:53] Speaker 3: I don't know what the problem is. I don't know
[2:55] Speaker 3: what we can do.
[2:56] Speaker 4: But if you calculate that, I think we're two for
[2:59] Speaker 4: 22 in two games. So we have to be under 30%
[3:02] Speaker 4: on third down.
[3:04] Speaker 5: 29%.
[3:04] Speaker 3: They're 130th in the country. Oh, yeah. See? And that's
[3:10] Speaker 3: a big, big problem.
[3:11] Speaker 4: And I don't want to keep getting on a coach,
[3:12] Speaker 4: but I think we have to do something with our offense.
[3:15] Speaker 4: When you can't convert on third downs, there's a big problem.
[3:20] Speaker 4: And I think when we were at practice, we always
[3:22] Speaker 4: had third and short, third and longs. He has no
[3:25] Speaker 4: creativity whatsoever on third down. And the last play of
[3:29] Speaker 4: the game is just... for us on offense, was very disappointing. Like,
[3:32] Speaker 4: we didn't have to go in the end zone. We
[3:34] Speaker 4: could have just got the first down. We still had time.
[3:37] Speaker 4: Throw it short. Do something. Gave up five sacks. Defensively,
[3:41] Speaker 4: we did enough to win, but we're still not causing
[3:45] Speaker 4: any turnovers or.
[3:46] Speaker 3: Getting any sacks.
[3:47] Speaker 4: I think in the last two games, we've gotten one
[3:49] Speaker 4: interception and one sack in both of our games. We
[3:52] Speaker 4: had some guys making some plays, but just not enough
[3:56] Speaker 4: to win the game.
[3:57] Speaker 2: Yeah, well, when we say they're 130th, by the way, Greg,
[3:59] Speaker 2: in third down percentage, there's 138 teams in FBS. So
[4:04] Speaker 2: they are very close to the bottom in that regard.
[4:06] Speaker 2: But give us your take on what you saw Saturday. Yeah,
[4:08] Speaker 2: I'll start there.
[4:09] Speaker 6: I mean, in order to be successful in third down,
[4:11] Speaker 6: you've got to have yourself in a favorable position.
[4:14] Speaker 3: And the problem right now is there are too many
[4:16] Speaker 3: third and longs.
[4:18] Speaker 6: Medium long to long, and that is not a recipe
[4:20] Speaker 6: for being really good on third downs. They're not having
[4:24] Speaker 6: a lot of success on first and second down, and
[4:26] Speaker 6: that puts you behind the eight ball. Now you're in
[4:29] Speaker 6: a situation where DeMond Williams has to do what he's
[4:32] Speaker 6: not great at, and that is drop back and throw
[4:35] Speaker 6: the ball down the field medium to long in order
[4:38] Speaker 6: to you know, convert on those downs, right?
[4:41] Speaker 3: And what happens?
[4:42] Speaker 6: The defense now can pin their ears back, knowing that
[4:45] Speaker 6: they're going to have to throw and they can come
[4:47] Speaker 6: after him. And we have not had a lot of
[4:49] Speaker 6: success the last two weeks protecting DeMond Williams. Five sacks
[4:53] Speaker 6: this week, seven last week. So it's really what's happening
[4:56] Speaker 6: on first and second. Then your quarterback has to do
[4:58] Speaker 6: what he's not good at. You're not going to convert
[5:01] Speaker 6: a lot of third downs. What has to happen is
[5:03] Speaker 6: we have to figure out how to be more successful
[5:06] Speaker 6: earlier in the possession, earlier in the set of downs
[5:09] Speaker 6: so that we can convert those third and twos and
[5:12] Speaker 6: third and threes. I was excited this week that they
[5:14] Speaker 6: decided to run the football a little more. Doesn't mean
[5:17] Speaker 6: that we necessarily averaged a ton of yards per carry,
[5:19] Speaker 6: but we had the threat of run, which gave them
[5:22] Speaker 6: the opportunity to do things that we were asking and
[5:25] Speaker 6: to Coach Fish's credit. I didn't know if he was
[5:29] Speaker 6: going to be versatile enough. You know, we question, we
[5:32] Speaker 6: ask the question, not question him, but ask the question.
[5:35] Speaker 6: Will he be versatile enough to run demand more? Will
[5:38] Speaker 6: he be versatile enough to sprint out, roll out, do
[5:41] Speaker 6: those kinds of things? And the creativity with the trick plays.
[5:45] Speaker 6: I know that has reeks of desperation, but I'm going
[5:48] Speaker 6: to say this. If what I'm doing is not working,
[5:51] Speaker 6: then I'm going to try something different. So I think
[5:54] Speaker 6: the coach came in with the right mentality, with the
[5:56] Speaker 6: right attitude, the right type of game plan. And it
[6:00] Speaker 6: had us with a 21 to 10 lead, folks. We
[6:03] Speaker 6: were leading the game in the third quarter, 21 to 10. probably,
[6:08] Speaker 6: even though we weren't just blowing it out, because like
[6:10] Speaker 6: you just said, Mario, we were not converting third downs,
[6:13] Speaker 6: but we were in a position to score points, position
[6:16] Speaker 6: to win, and we gave DeMond the chance to do
[6:19] Speaker 6: stuff that he's good at. The touchdown to Decker DeGraff,
[6:22] Speaker 6: that was a sprint out. I mean, he got the snap,
[6:24] Speaker 6: and he sprinted out.
[6:25] Speaker 3: To the right.
[6:26] Speaker 6: Decker DeGraff came across the formation. The ball was thrown
[6:29] Speaker 6: on time, on target. Decker DeGraff turned it up the field.
[6:32] Speaker 3: I'm going to say this.
[6:33] Speaker 6: That play right there told me everything I needed to know. USC,
[6:37] Speaker 6: was not enthusiastic on saturday usc gave us the opportunity
[6:41] Speaker 6: to win they saw the effort on that touchdown their
[6:43] Speaker 6: team was not we had a chance to win that
[6:45] Speaker 6: game because usc did not come out fired up but
[6:48] Speaker 6: i'm gonna tell you what as much as i saw
[6:51] Speaker 6: improvement from damon i saw improvement from the coaches everybody
[6:55] Speaker 6: i think you know had some great things going that
[6:58] Speaker 6: one single play where Daman was under pressure, double clutched it,
[7:03] Speaker 6: ended up fumbling. It was like USC was a person
[7:07] Speaker 6: laying on the ground in distress, cardiac arrest, can't breathe.
[7:11] Speaker 6: And that play was like we did CPR. And we
[7:14] Speaker 6: gave USC life. And they got excited after that play.
[7:18] Speaker 6: And they scored 15 unanswered points, including that scoop and score.
[7:21] Speaker 6: And that, I know there's all kinds of things that
[7:24] Speaker 6: happen during a football game that lead to a win
[7:26] Speaker 6: or loss.
[7:27] Speaker 3: But that gave them life.
[7:28] Speaker 6: That got them excited because they did not– I watched
[7:31] Speaker 6: the first three quarters of the game. They were not excited.
[7:34] Speaker 6: They weren't playing hard. Their quarterback didn't look like himself.
[7:36] Speaker 6: Nobody in the USC uniforms looked like they cared about
[7:39] Speaker 6: that game until that moment. And that's the type of
[7:43] Speaker 6: thing that cannot happen. Again, is it any one person's fault?
[7:48] Speaker 3: Maybe not.
[7:49] Speaker 6: But I say this, when we're drop back passing demands
[7:53] Speaker 6: in the pocket and we're under pressure, the ability to
[7:56] Speaker 6: have anything happen good really isn't there. And that's really
[8:00] Speaker 6: what we have to figure out. How do we keep
[8:02] Speaker 6: out of those situations? And so for me, it was
[8:05] Speaker 6: a game, Softie, that we could have won. We should
[8:08] Speaker 6: have won.
[8:09] Speaker 3: And until that particular play, we were probably going to win.
[8:12] Speaker 5: Yeah.
[8:13] Speaker 2: Well, the words could have been used a lot on
[8:16] Speaker 2: this show in the first five games. Could have blown
[8:18] Speaker 2: out Wazoo. Could have blown out Utah State. Could have
[8:21] Speaker 2: beaten Minnesota. Could have beaten USC. I mean, this is
[8:24] Speaker 2: why coaches get paid a lot of money. It's why
[8:26] Speaker 2: you pay a quarterback $ 4 million to close that little gap. Right.
[8:30] Speaker 2: For those edges that Mike McDonald talks about chasing with
[8:33] Speaker 2: the Seahawks. I mean, you mentioned up 21 to 10
[8:36] Speaker 2: and then you go the final 28 minutes and 30
[8:38] Speaker 2: seconds without scoring. You go fumble, touchdown, punt, punt and
[8:41] Speaker 2: then turnover on down. So I don't know. I mean,
[8:44] Speaker 2: it's it's interesting that I'm not saying you're wrong to
[8:47] Speaker 2: take that angle about DeMond that he competed against.
[8:50] Speaker 3: And I agree with that.
[8:51] Speaker 2: But if that's what we're looking at in year three
[8:54] Speaker 2: with this guy, we thought we'd be talking about a
[8:56] Speaker 2: Heisman Trophy candidate by now. We thought we'd be talking
[8:59] Speaker 2: about a Big Ten honors candidate. And now we're giving
[9:02] Speaker 2: him credit for going out and competing, which he did,
[9:04] Speaker 2: for sure.
[9:05] Speaker 3: And he's tough as hell. I mean, if there's anything
[9:07] Speaker 3: you can't say.
[9:08] Speaker 2: About Neiman, you can't say he's not tough. But that's
[9:11] Speaker 2: not what this team was looking for this year, to
[9:13] Speaker 2: say that a quarterback was competing. That's the kind of
[9:16] Speaker 2: stuff you say about a 3-2 football team.
[9:18] Speaker 3: Yeah, that's exactly what you say. Yeah.
[9:20] Speaker 4: And I and I said last year, even the year before,
[9:24] Speaker 4: I said this guy is going to be must see TV.
[9:26] Speaker 4: And that's what I thought. But Greg all did.
[9:28] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[9:28] Speaker 4: But Greg said it like if we have to win
[9:31] Speaker 4: with DeMond dropping back and passing.
[9:34] Speaker 3: We're always going to lose. That's not his strength. His
[9:36] Speaker 3: strength is playmaking.
[9:38] Speaker 4: And yes, at this point in time, the record that
[9:41] Speaker 4: we have and the way the season's looking, I'm looking
[9:43] Speaker 4: at him, watching him trying to compete and break tackles
[9:46] Speaker 4: and made a nice little fourth down pass to Lawson.
[9:49] Speaker 4: Like those are the things, like I'm saying, at least
[9:51] Speaker 4: he's out there competing. But I don't know if we
[9:54] Speaker 4: have the weapons. We definitely weren't as talented as USC.
[9:58] Speaker 4: And once we did turn the ball over, once he fumbled,
[10:01] Speaker 4: the game was over. They were excited and they came
[10:03] Speaker 4: to play. And that's when their talent took over.
[10:05] Speaker 3: I'll say this, though.
[10:06] Speaker 6: The one thing that you can't give people is the
[10:08] Speaker 6: will to play, the will to complete, compete, the will
[10:10] Speaker 6: to keep going. When things like this happen and things
[10:14] Speaker 6: get tough, there are people who give up. I'm telling you,
[10:16] Speaker 6: USC had given up after last week's game until something
[10:20] Speaker 6: weird happened. And so I do give them credit for
[10:23] Speaker 6: that because we can't put that in them, right? So
[10:25] Speaker 6: now you got to go to practice and figure out
[10:28] Speaker 6: what plays do we call? Where can we be successful?
[10:31] Speaker 6: Who's going to give that extra effort? That play that
[10:32] Speaker 6: DeMond made on that fourth down to complete that pass
[10:35] Speaker 6: to Lawson, right? That is the type of stuff that
[10:38] Speaker 6: we're going to need to see more of that instead
[10:41] Speaker 6: of the double clutch fumble return for a.
[10:44] Speaker 3: Touchdown, right?
[10:45] Speaker 6: We had two wide receivers, two, catching football. Lawson and
[10:49] Speaker 6: Roebuck said, we're going to go out and do whatever
[10:51] Speaker 6: we can. We need everybody to have that attitude. But
[10:55] Speaker 6: those guys didn't give up. I think the defense, for
[10:58] Speaker 6: all intents and purposes, gave up 19 points to one
[11:00] Speaker 6: of the best offenses in the country.
[11:03] Speaker 3: Did they have the excitement? Maybe not. But still, they competed. Now,
[11:07] Speaker 3: I will say this about our defense.
[11:10] Speaker 6: USC averaged 3.1 yards per carry or something like that.
[11:14] Speaker 3: 3.3, right?
[11:14] Speaker 6: Doesn't sound like a lot, right? But They only ran
[11:19] Speaker 6: the ball on third and two, third and one, third
[11:21] Speaker 6: and three. So they typically got a first down because
[11:25] Speaker 6: our defense is in the right spots. The game plan
[11:28] Speaker 6: looks good. They're not playing with the leverage that I
[11:31] Speaker 6: think they need to play with. They're standing up. and
[11:33] Speaker 6: trying to tackle standing up and make arm tackles. As
[11:36] Speaker 6: a running back, you try to arm tackle me, you
[11:38] Speaker 6: might as well forget it. You're not going to arm
[11:40] Speaker 6: tackle me. I'm just saying that's the type of mentality
[11:43] Speaker 6: most running backs, bigger backs have. And so we got
[11:46] Speaker 6: to play with better leverage on the defensive front. I
[11:48] Speaker 6: like almost everything about the defense, but on the defensive line,
[11:51] Speaker 6: the defensive front, they got to play with better leverage
[11:54] Speaker 6: so that on those third and twos, we are able
[11:57] Speaker 6: to get off the field and make them punt the ball.
[11:59] Speaker 2: Unfortunately, with the offense being as mundane as it is,
[12:03] Speaker 2: you need more from the defense to start winning games.
[12:05] Speaker 3: It almost feels like it's unfair.
[12:07] Speaker 6: They had 10 minutes more time of possession than the
[12:10] Speaker 6: Huskies did.
[12:10] Speaker 2: They had two drives in the second half that totaled
[12:13] Speaker 2: 15 minutes.
[12:13] Speaker 5: Yeah.
[12:14] Speaker 2: That means two drives took up an entire quarter of
[12:16] Speaker 2: the second half by USC. It was game over.
[12:18] Speaker 3: They're probably tired after being on the field so long. Exactly.
[12:21] Speaker 3: Too many three and outs. Too many turnovers.
[12:23] Speaker 2: You need to put the ball in great spots for
[12:25] Speaker 2: your offense. This defense needs to babysit the offense, Mario.
[12:28] Speaker 3: And they still only gave up 19 points.
[12:29] Speaker 4: We need playmakers on defense. Again, in the last two weeks,
[12:33] Speaker 4: we got one interception and one sack. If somebody's going
[12:36] Speaker 4: to throw the ball that much, you've got to have
[12:38] Speaker 4: more sacks. You've got to put more pressure on the quarterback,
[12:40] Speaker 4: and you've got to cause these turnovers. We're not doing that.
[12:43] Speaker 4: And that's the same thing if you look back the
[12:45] Speaker 4: whole time Coach Fish has been here. We haven't been
[12:48] Speaker 4: great at getting pressure on the quarterback, and we haven't
[12:50] Speaker 4: been great at creating turnovers.
[12:51] Speaker 2: Well, okay, so let's talk about that because clearly the
[12:54] Speaker 2: number one issue with this football team is the offense.
[12:56] Speaker 7: Right?
[12:57] Speaker 3: I mean, special teams has actually been pretty damn good.
[12:59] Speaker 3: Hunter green is amazing.
[13:00] Speaker 2: You got, you got old faithful pin and balls at
[13:02] Speaker 2: the one yard line. I mean, no problems there. Defense overall,
[13:06] Speaker 2: no problems, right? It's the offense clearly. So what is
[13:09] Speaker 2: the issue? Is it just simply put the play of
[13:12] Speaker 2: the quarterback? Is it the maturation of the quarterback? Is
[13:15] Speaker 2: it the play caller? Is it the offensive line? Now
[13:18] Speaker 2: we're talking about making changes. You guys have heard about this.
[13:20] Speaker 2: We might see John Mills start at left tackle on
[13:22] Speaker 2: Friday night versus Iowa.
[13:23] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[13:24] Speaker 2: And we all saw that coming. Like we all love
[13:25] Speaker 2: Cody green, but he's 18. So he's going to struggle.
[13:28] Speaker 2: And now Lennon Hatchett may come back and play in
[13:30] Speaker 2: the game on Friday. Cody may play some guard on Friday.
[13:34] Speaker 2: So play calling, personnel, the quarterback play, decision making.
[13:38] Speaker 3: He's too short. You saw that on the sack fumble.
[13:40] Speaker 2: He's got Cade Eldridge wide open, wide open for a
[13:43] Speaker 2: gigantic game to his right and doesn't see him. Or
[13:46] Speaker 2: he can't get over a defender and a referee, so
[13:49] Speaker 2: he hangs onto the ball and he hangs onto it
[13:51] Speaker 2: too long. By the time he was ready to let
[13:52] Speaker 2: it go, it was too late. The offensive line can't
[13:55] Speaker 2: block for an hour. So what is the core problem, Greg,
[13:58] Speaker 2: with this offense?
[13:59] Speaker 3: You just said about six cores. This is a six-core problem.
[14:02] Speaker 3: Name the biggest core, the biggest problem. In your mind
[14:06] Speaker 3: is what? Because I'll throw this out there real quick.
[14:07] Speaker 3: I got two. All right, go ahead.
[14:09] Speaker 4: The two is the offensive line. They haven't been playing great.
[14:12] Speaker 4: And the second is the play calling. I just flat
[14:15] Speaker 4: out believe that you have to figure out ways to
[14:18] Speaker 4: get your playmakers the ball. DeMond is the third problem
[14:21] Speaker 4: because I don't think he's going to go first, second,
[14:23] Speaker 4: and third read. He has something in his mind of
[14:26] Speaker 4: who he wants to go to.
[14:28] Speaker 3: And he's going to go there. But there's no excuse
[14:32] Speaker 3: for two for 22. Two for 22. I'm sorry.
[14:36] Speaker 4: Yeah, two for 22. Two for 22 in two weeks.
[14:39] Speaker 4: You have to go to the play caller and the quarterback.
[14:42] Speaker 4: But the play caller should have some calls in his
[14:45] Speaker 4: back pocket that are going to get you a first down.
[14:48] Speaker 4: There's no way you can tell me one call. Third down,
[14:51] Speaker 4: you're going to get a first down against Minnesota. And
[14:54] Speaker 4: one third down, you're going to get against USC.
[14:57] Speaker 3: That's impossible. It has to go to the play caller.
[14:59] Speaker 6: I agree that if you fix those two things, you
[15:01] Speaker 6: fix the majority of the problem, if that's a way
[15:04] Speaker 6: to answer your question, Softy.
[15:05] Speaker 3: Because I think the offensive line is struggling.
[15:08] Speaker 6: DeMond Williams is under a great amount of pressure anytime
[15:11] Speaker 6: he drops back in the pocket.
[15:13] Speaker 3: So what do you do then?
[15:14] Speaker 6: If they're not going to be able to really sustain that,
[15:17] Speaker 6: then you've got to call plays that get him out
[15:19] Speaker 6: of the pocket. that get him away from the offensive line,
[15:21] Speaker 6: that get him outside before they can rush up the
[15:25] Speaker 6: field and make him step up, which doesn't work that
[15:27] Speaker 6: well unless he's going to run.
[15:29] Speaker 3: So, yes, you've got to fix those two things. The
[15:30] Speaker 3: offensive line's got to play better.
[15:32] Speaker 6: There's got to be play calls that fit DeMond better
[15:34] Speaker 6: in order for that to really improve.
[15:38] Speaker 3: I mean, our third down percentage is atrocious.
[15:40] Speaker 2: Terrible.
[15:41] Speaker 3: There's no other way you can say it.
[15:42] Speaker 5: 130th.
[15:42] Speaker 3: Yeah, there's no other way you can say it. The
[15:45] Speaker 3: only thing worse is 132nd. 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th,
[15:48] Speaker 3: and 8th. You know where they were a year ago,
[15:50] Speaker 3: by the way?
[15:50] Speaker 5: 10th.
[15:50] Speaker 3: They've gone from 10th to 130th in college football. They've
[15:52] Speaker 3: gone from 17th in scoring to 87th. 10th to 130th
[15:53] Speaker 3: in third down. 7th to 88th in red zone. 58th
[15:54] Speaker 3: to 126th in rushing. They've gone from 38th to 84th
[15:56] Speaker 3: in total offense. I mean, this is unbelievable. Yeah.
[16:09] Speaker 6: And that's what I say, it's not a one-person thing
[16:11] Speaker 6: because we need better running backs to be able to
[16:13] Speaker 6: take some pressure off of the young man. We need
[16:16] Speaker 6: better receivers to get separation. Although last year, I'm not
[16:19] Speaker 6: so sure Denzel Boston got a ton of separation, but
[16:21] Speaker 6: you could just throw it up to him because he
[16:23] Speaker 6: was big and strong enough to get it. So you
[16:24] Speaker 6: had a different type of weapon at wide receiver line.
[16:27] Speaker 6: So it's all of those things, but I think if
[16:29] Speaker 6: you fix the two, what we just called the core problems,
[16:33] Speaker 6: if you get the offensive line playing better and you
[16:35] Speaker 6: get better play calls for DeMond, it will definitely improve
[16:37] Speaker 6: that percentage.
[16:38] Speaker 2: Well, why don't we come back and talk about some
[16:40] Speaker 2: changes they can make? Obviously, there's other issues with this
[16:43] Speaker 2: football team. And let's face it, I mean, there's chatter, right?
[16:46] Speaker 2: That's what this show has really been all about is chatter.
[16:49] Speaker 2: DeMond Williams was asked about it today at a press conference.
[16:51] Speaker 2: We can play that clip for you coming up next
[16:53] Speaker 2: segment about the criticism that's out there. There's people, frankly,
[16:56] Speaker 2: wondering if Washington wants DeMond Williams back. as their starting
[17:00] Speaker 2: quarterback for next year. I got people hitting me up
[17:02] Speaker 2: on social media asking for Elijah Brown to play and
[17:06] Speaker 2: get a driver, too. We'll come back and talk about
[17:07] Speaker 2: all of it. Husky Hawks brought to you by our
[17:09] Speaker 2: friends at Frostbrood Coors Light. Normally 4 to 5. We'll

[18:07] Speaker 3: the fourth time that's happened to me today, by the way.
[18:09] Speaker 3: I don't know what's going on. Turn off the ringer, folks.
[18:12] Speaker 3: You're in the broadcast booth. Turn it off.
[18:15] Speaker 2: Where's my dick bear drop, by the way? I've got
[18:16] Speaker 2: to find that because this is an appropriate time. Don't
[18:18] Speaker 2: yell in the press box. No, this is an appropriate
[18:20] Speaker 2: time to play this.
[18:20] Speaker 8: Do it.
[18:21] Speaker 3: There you go. Sorry, it's my fault. Anyway, what do
[18:24] Speaker 3: we got?
[18:24] Speaker 2: So normally three to four with a Husky honk or
[18:26] Speaker 2: four to five, but we're doing three to four today.
[18:28] Speaker 2: Greg Lewis, Mario Bailey with you talking Husky football. So
[18:32] Speaker 2: let's let's go back to the demand thing for a second.
[18:34] Speaker 2: I mean, it's just the nature of the game, the
[18:36] Speaker 2: way the actual game is set up. quarterback is going
[18:39] Speaker 2: to take a lot of the blame when things are
[18:41] Speaker 2: going poorly.
[18:42] Speaker 3: And he's got more impact, right?
[18:44] Speaker 2: He influences the game way more than any position in
[18:46] Speaker 2: any other sport outside of maybe a starting pitcher in baseball.
[18:50] Speaker 2: DeMond Williams was asked today about the criticism he's getting
[18:54] Speaker 2: and how he's dealing with it.
[18:56] Speaker 5: When this team loses, always the quarterback is the first
[18:59] Speaker 5: guy to hear about it from the critics. And I
[19:01] Speaker 5: think Jed was talking a little bit about it yesterday.
[19:04] Speaker 5: Do you completely shut down and just... stay completely away
[19:08] Speaker 5: from that or do you even look at it what
[19:10] Speaker 5: people are saying criticizing.
[19:11] Speaker 9: You yeah I mean uh you know people gonna say
[19:14] Speaker 9: whatever they want to say um regarding games and whether
[19:16] Speaker 9: I play good or bad so you know uh for
[19:18] Speaker 9: me it's just trying to you know stay on my
[19:20] Speaker 9: own my own two feet right here at 10 toes
[19:22] Speaker 9: and understand who I am as a person and not
[19:24] Speaker 9: let you know whatever other people want to say about
[19:26] Speaker 9: me um determine who I am as a person so
[19:28] Speaker 9: I just go into it every day just trying to
[19:30] Speaker 9: be myself and So going to the next week, I
[19:32] Speaker 9: understand it's a new opportunity. It's a new challenge for
[19:35] Speaker 9: me to be great.
[19:35] Speaker 2: Okay. Let's face it. There's a couple of obvious factors here.
[19:39] Speaker 2: When the year began, he was starting behind the eight
[19:41] Speaker 2: ball to begin with because of what happened back in January.
[19:44] Speaker 2: I mean, everybody knows about it. Tried to quit the
[19:47] Speaker 2: team and turned a lot of people off and lost
[19:49] Speaker 2: a lot of fans. Mistakes, obviously, turnovers. Numbers are way down.
[19:54] Speaker 2: The overall percentages are way down. I got people hitting
[19:56] Speaker 2: me up talking about whether or not we should give
[19:58] Speaker 2: Elijah Brown a couple of drives. I mean, does that
[20:02] Speaker 2: sound ridiculous to you guys to maybe clear his head
[20:05] Speaker 2: and maybe give the Huskies a little bit of a
[20:08] Speaker 2: change of pace at quarterback?
[20:09] Speaker 6: Or is that nonsense to you? That is nonsense with
[20:13] Speaker 6: a capital N to me. I'm not saying DeMond is
[20:15] Speaker 6: lighting the world on fire. I'm sure he would want
[20:18] Speaker 6: his performance to improve. But to all of a sudden
[20:21] Speaker 6: think that you're going to go to the guy who
[20:23] Speaker 6: gets less reps in practice, the guy who has– Play
[20:27] Speaker 6: major college football in a lesser division and not had
[20:31] Speaker 6: success is all of a sudden going to come in
[20:34] Speaker 6: here and take over this team and be able to
[20:37] Speaker 6: do something that he hasn't had the opportunity to prepare
[20:41] Speaker 6: to do. Day in and day out, I don't think
[20:43] Speaker 6: is right. But I also think from DeMond's perspective, both
[20:47] Speaker 6: things are true. Yes, there's criticism. Yes, you deserve criticism.
[20:50] Speaker 6: But I could care less. You can criticize me all
[20:52] Speaker 6: you want. And the fans have the right to do that.
[20:55] Speaker 6: And that's what they're going to do. That's why they're fans.
[20:56] Speaker 6: They're fanatics. But as a player, you have to be
[20:59] Speaker 6: able to block that out. You have to be able
[21:01] Speaker 6: to go out and not play and worry about the criticism.
[21:05] Speaker 6: You got to try to make plays. You got to
[21:07] Speaker 6: try to get better. You got to try to improve
[21:09] Speaker 6: regardless of what's happening on the field. Your job is
[21:12] Speaker 6: to get better every day and to try to put
[21:14] Speaker 6: this team in a better position to win. So I
[21:17] Speaker 6: think DeMond Williams is strong enough to do that. Personally,
[21:20] Speaker 6: I don't think the chatter and the criticism will bother him.
[21:24] Speaker 6: He's still got to play better, right? He's still got
[21:26] Speaker 6: to get better, but I don't think the criticism is
[21:27] Speaker 6: going to bother him.
[21:28] Speaker 4: Mario?
[21:29] Speaker 3: It's nonsense for now.
[21:30] Speaker 4: But it might not be nonsense two weeks from now.
[21:34] Speaker 6: Backup quarterback's everybody's best friend until he has to play.
[21:36] Speaker 5: Sure.
[21:37] Speaker 4: Well, I feel the same way I felt when DeMond
[21:40] Speaker 4: was the backup quarterback. And I was like, let him
[21:42] Speaker 4: get in. The season's over. What are we playing for? Like,
[21:45] Speaker 4: let this young man get in. And if we were
[21:48] Speaker 4: to lose the next two games and we lost to
[21:50] Speaker 4: Purdue and– Iowa, then I would definitely say, you know,
[21:53] Speaker 4: get this young man in for a series or two.
[21:56] Speaker 4: And like we keep saying, DeMond's weakness really is drop-back passing,
[22:00] Speaker 4: but his coach's favorite thing is drop-back passing. So if
[22:04] Speaker 4: you want to give a young man a series or
[22:06] Speaker 4: two and see what he can do, if we lose
[22:09] Speaker 4: in the next two weeks, yes, then I believe so.
[22:13] Speaker 3: Completely... Different comparison.
[22:15] Speaker 6: You're not comparing apples to apples there because Elijah Brown
[22:17] Speaker 6: is not going to be your quarterback of the future.
[22:19] Speaker 6: So you don't leave and go away from DeMond Williams
[22:22] Speaker 6: to come back to Elijah Brown, who next year is
[22:24] Speaker 6: not going to be your starting quarterback regardless. The season
[22:27] Speaker 6: is not over until it's actually over. I'm going to
[22:30] Speaker 6: try to win every freaking football game I can win,
[22:32] Speaker 6: and I'm going to try to put my team in
[22:34] Speaker 6: the best position possible. to do that week in and
[22:36] Speaker 6: week out. What I think you were saying back two
[22:39] Speaker 6: years ago, and we gave you a lot of credit
[22:40] Speaker 6: for this, Mario, is DeMond Williams is the future of
[22:43] Speaker 6: this place. And right now we're not winning at all.
[22:46] Speaker 6: And he gives us a better chance to win. I
[22:48] Speaker 6: don't think Elijah Brown gives us a better chance to win.
[22:51] Speaker 6: I've seen him play the last couple of years down
[22:52] Speaker 6: at Stanford. And, you know, I'm not, again, nothing against
[22:56] Speaker 6: that young man. He's a backup quarterback for a reason.
[22:59] Speaker 6: And it's not because he's young and he's inexperienced and
[23:02] Speaker 6: he still needs to learn how to play college football.
[23:04] Speaker 3: There's different types of backup quarterbacks. All things are equal.
[23:07] Speaker 3: But you're saying the season is not over till it's over.
[23:09] Speaker 3: It's not. And I get that.
[23:10] Speaker 2: Then why did they go away from Will Rogers to
[23:12] Speaker 2: DeMond Williams in 2020? I just said that he gave
[23:16] Speaker 2: us a better chance to write in. I'm saying he's
[23:18] Speaker 2: a younger and the future of the program.
[23:21] Speaker 3: I'm saying apples, apples, oranges, oranges. I don't care.
[23:25] Speaker 4: If we were to lose the next two games, then
[23:28] Speaker 4: that means we've lost like four in a row. And
[23:30] Speaker 4: you give another young man a few series to see
[23:33] Speaker 4: and see what we have. We're not just going to
[23:35] Speaker 4: keep riding DeMond all the way and lose five in
[23:38] Speaker 4: a row. So I don't think I'm comparing anything.
[23:41] Speaker 3: It'll make it worse.
[23:42] Speaker 4: No, I'm not making it worse. I'm telling you, you
[23:45] Speaker 4: let somebody else get in there and see what they
[23:47] Speaker 4: can do. If you let this young man lose four
[23:49] Speaker 4: games in a row, then we need to see something else.
[23:51] Speaker 2: So we're all in agreement we're not doing that yet, right?
[23:54] Speaker 2: We're talking about let's see how things go, and if
[23:55] Speaker 2: things become a complete.
[23:57] Speaker 3: And total disaster. I wouldn't do it at all.
[23:58] Speaker 2: Then maybe we can talk about giving the guy maybe
[24:00] Speaker 2: a serious.
[24:00] Speaker 3: Let's get to fact or fiction right now. We're set

[24:50] Speaker 3: Michael Penix. Yeah, that guy.
[24:52] Speaker 8: No, a guy that I actually don't like. Hottest guy
[24:54] Speaker 8: on planet Earth is Brock Purdy. You know the kryptonite
[24:57] Speaker 8: to Brock Purdy?
[24:58] Speaker 3: Seahawks defense. Mike McDonald. That's right.
[25:00] Speaker 8: Mike McDonald's the kryptonite to Brock Purdy. Brock Purdy is
[25:03] Speaker 8: 2-4 all-time against Mike McDonald with an average stat line
[25:07] Speaker 8: of 19 for 29, 202 yards. He has six touchdowns,
[25:11] Speaker 8: nine interceptions and a 75 passer rating all time against
[25:15] Speaker 8: Mike McDonald's defense. And the 49ers have scored 16 points
[25:19] Speaker 8: a game against Mike McDonald defenses at Baltimore and Seattle.
[25:23] Speaker 8: Give me the under 47 and a half.
[25:26] Speaker 7: All right.
[25:27] Speaker 8: San Francisco does not score more. I can't guarantee you the.
[25:30] Speaker 3: Hawks are going to win.
[25:31] Speaker 5: Right.
[25:32] Speaker 8: San Francisco's not scoring more than 21 points in this game.
[25:34] Speaker 2: All right, we're taking the under. What's the number again?
[25:36] Speaker 3: 47 and a half. 47 and a half. God, that
[25:38] Speaker 3: seems high. Holy moly. I like it.
[25:40] Speaker 2: Let's go with the under 47 and a half in
[25:43] Speaker 2: the Seahawks-Niners game. You like it, text in fact. You
[25:46] Speaker 2: hate it, text in fiction. Don't forget, Dick started off 0-6.
[25:49] Speaker 2: He's now won two in a row.
[25:51] Speaker 3: It's a winning game. street all right it.

[26:52] Speaker 2: the worst uh defensive pass interference call that was In
[26:55] Speaker 2: the history of college football, he's getting yanked down by
[26:58] Speaker 2: a USC defender. And, guys, I'm on the sideline looking
[27:01] Speaker 2: right up the sideline towards the Husky bench, and the
[27:03] Speaker 2: line judge threw the flag right in front of me,
[27:06] Speaker 2: did not see the yank because all he saw was
[27:08] Speaker 2: Dylan Robinson's back. He was totally out of position to.
[27:12] Speaker 3: Make the call.
[27:12] Speaker 2: So anybody want to call anybody out for a great
[27:15] Speaker 2: game on defense?
[27:16] Speaker 6: I actually gave it to Rayshon Clark because he led
[27:19] Speaker 6: the team in tackles, nine tackles. I think he only
[27:21] Speaker 6: got beat on the pass once. So he was in
[27:23] Speaker 6: solid coverage. When your name's not called very much as
[27:25] Speaker 6: a secondary guy, you had a good game. And then
[27:28] Speaker 6: on top of that, you got nine tackles.
[27:30] Speaker 2: Right, nine tackles, eight solo in a TFL for Rashawn Clark.
[27:34] Speaker 3: Yeah, that's where I would go. If I don't go him,
[27:36] Speaker 3: then you know where I go. Old Faithful.
[27:38] Speaker 5: Yeah.
[27:39] Speaker 3: Old Faithful. Yeah, Ray Sean played a great game. By
[27:41] Speaker 3: the way, Alex McLaughlin is well aware that you call
[27:44] Speaker 3: him Old Faithful.
[27:45] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[27:45] Speaker 3: And he loves it, by the way, just so you know. Oh,
[27:47] Speaker 3: he's the man. Never change.
[27:49] Speaker 2: Well, Iowa, coming to town, first time since 1963 that
[27:53] Speaker 2: Iowa's been here. You know a thing or two about
[27:54] Speaker 2: playing in Iowa?
[27:56] Speaker 6: Mario and I both do. The last time I walked
[27:58] Speaker 6: off the field against IRL. 142 yards rushing.
[28:02] Speaker 2: With no ACL, by the way.
[28:06] Speaker 6: Way more than what Nick Bell had. He had a touchdown, though.
[28:09] Speaker 6: Mark Brunel, you still owe me two touchdowns. Every time
[28:12] Speaker 6: we got inside the 10-yard line, we would run option,
[28:14] Speaker 6: and Mark Brunel still ain't pitched that damn football.
[28:17] Speaker 2: Still!
[28:18] Speaker 3: I should have had two touchdowns and Rose Bowl MVP.
[28:21] Speaker 3: So me and Mark were preparing for the next season. Exactly.
[28:26] Speaker 3: We don't even got a touchdown in that game. We
[28:28] Speaker 3: had two, thank you. They thought of you as Elijah Brown.
[28:31] Speaker 3: That was my Rose Bowl, man. They thought you were
[28:32] Speaker 3: Elijah Brown. Like, why give the guy the ball? I
[28:34] Speaker 3: was not going to be here next year.
[28:37] Speaker 6: 140-something yards, did all the work, and he would get
[28:40] Speaker 6: down to the goal line and couldn't get the football.
[28:42] Speaker 3: He threw me a couple.
[28:43] Speaker 2: Here comes Iowa with the 8th best scoring defense in
[28:47] Speaker 2: the country against the 87th best scoring offense. Here comes
[28:51] Speaker 2: Iowa with the 25th best total defense in the country
[28:53] Speaker 2: against the 84th best offense in the country. Here comes
[28:57] Speaker 2: Iowa with the 33rd best third down defense in football
[29:00] Speaker 2: against the 130th best third down offense in football. And
[29:04] Speaker 2: here comes Iowa with the 32nd best rushing D against
[29:07] Speaker 2: the 126th best rushing D. in college football we know
[29:12] Speaker 2: what they'll try and do though and that's run the
[29:15] Speaker 2: ball down your throat you got to get them in
[29:17] Speaker 2: situations where they have no choice but to throw the
[29:19] Speaker 2: ball on third down the defense has to win this
[29:22] Speaker 2: game right.
[29:22] Speaker 6: What i was going to say is is you have
[29:24] Speaker 6: 38 years worth of film right on iowa they do
[29:27] Speaker 6: the same thing over and over and over again the
[29:30] Speaker 6: last time we played iowa down there i don't think
[29:32] Speaker 6: they threw a pass in the second half of the
[29:33] Speaker 6: football game our defense is a little better than that
[29:36] Speaker 6: salty i don't think they'll be able to accomplish that
[29:38] Speaker 6: feat what i do think though, is Iowa's defense played
[29:42] Speaker 6: kind of toe-to-toe with Ohio State last week for the
[29:46] Speaker 6: first half until Ohio State started opening up and doing what?
[29:49] Speaker 6: Throwing the ball down the field to Jeremiah Smith. We
[29:51] Speaker 6: don't have a Jeremiah Smith, and we don't have a
[29:53] Speaker 6: Julian Sane. So we're going to have to come up
[29:55] Speaker 6: with a structured game plan that allows us, again, to–
[29:59] Speaker 6: figure out how to.
[30:00] Speaker 3: Score 28 points.
[30:01] Speaker 6: I mean, I think the first team to 28 in
[30:03] Speaker 6: this game will end up being victorious. And so the
[30:06] Speaker 6: Huskies have, like I said, they also got 30 years
[30:09] Speaker 6: of film watching Iowa's defense. They're not going to do
[30:12] Speaker 6: anything different than they've done the last several years. So
[30:15] Speaker 6: you've got plenty of things on tape to watch and
[30:18] Speaker 6: see how to exploit this defense. I like the things
[30:21] Speaker 6: that the Huskies did with the reverses and the halfback passes, although...
[30:26] Speaker 6: When you put the wide receiver in the backfield, as
[30:28] Speaker 6: a defense, I'm going to know something's up. Hopefully, Brian
[30:32] Speaker 6: Bonner can throw the ball so they don't have to
[30:34] Speaker 6: make it that obvious because I think Iowa's defense is
[30:37] Speaker 6: really aggressive. I think they do come downhill. They do
[30:41] Speaker 6: like to bring their safeties in the box. They do
[30:43] Speaker 6: like to stop the run. If you're going to get them...
[30:46] Speaker 6: a cutback type of play, a let them over pursue
[30:49] Speaker 6: type of play or reverse those kinds of things. So
[30:52] Speaker 6: I like the fact that our offense is ready to
[30:53] Speaker 6: be created.
[30:54] Speaker 2: Yeah, we were there, by the way, at that game
[30:56] Speaker 2: with some of the worst Chinese food.
[30:58] Speaker 3: No, let's not start. That was Mario's choice of restaurants.
[31:01] Speaker 4: Why do you always start with the Chinese food?
[31:03] Speaker 3: I started with the pizza. Mario ate Chinese food in college.
[31:05] Speaker 3: You guys ate it.
[31:06] Speaker 5: Ha!
[31:07] Speaker 3: You guys ate the food. Well, of course we were starving.
[31:10] Speaker 4: The pizza, you didn't even finish the pizza. You know,
[31:12] Speaker 4: if Greg doesn't finish the pizza, it has to be
[31:15] Speaker 4: some of the worst pizza you've ever had.
[31:17] Speaker 3: I don't even like pizza. It was bad. Thank you.
[31:21] Speaker 3: I was very disappointed in the food. in iowa can
[31:25] Speaker 3: we talk about the game.
[31:26] Speaker 7: I don't know i don't know what we did wrong
[31:28] Speaker 7: we got beat up well you remember and then jed
[31:31] Speaker 7: kind of went berserk on fourth down yeah remember that
[31:34] Speaker 7: he went forward on fourth and two from his own
[31:36] Speaker 7: 37 yeah fourth and four from his own 30 yeah
[31:39] Speaker 7: fourth and.
[31:39] Speaker 2: 11 from the iowa 49 got stuffed on all three
[31:41] Speaker 2: of them that led to 17 points for iowa and
[31:44] Speaker 2: they won the game 40 to 16 kade mcnamara threw
[31:46] Speaker 2: 14 times in that game and i will put up
[31:49] Speaker 2: 40 points.
[31:50] Speaker 4: It's the same thing. It's really no creativity when we
[31:52] Speaker 4: need it the most. And Greg said it like they're
[31:55] Speaker 4: just going to come do what they did to us
[31:57] Speaker 4: last year in Iowa. They're going to try and run
[31:59] Speaker 4: it down our throats. And what we're going to need
[32:01] Speaker 4: to do is we're going to have to score some points.
[32:03] Speaker 4: We have to score points. If not, I think they
[32:06] Speaker 4: will try and run it. I think our defense is good.
[32:08] Speaker 4: But I think Iowa's one of those people that aren't
[32:11] Speaker 4: going to change what they do. And they'll run, run,
[32:14] Speaker 4: and run some more.
[32:14] Speaker 6: Did they throw a pass in the second half of
[32:16] Speaker 6: that game at all? I feel something crazy. Like one pass.
[32:19] Speaker 6: It was almost like that Michigan game a few years
[32:21] Speaker 6: earlier where Michigan didn't throw the entire second half.
[32:23] Speaker 2: Yes, they did throw a pass in the second half.
[32:26] Speaker 2: I'm seeing one right here from Cade McNamara. At least one.
[32:28] Speaker 2: But see, I disagree. I think this is a 21-17,
[32:29] Speaker 2: 21-14 type game. on Saturday night or Friday night.
[32:34] Speaker 6: I don't disagree, but I'm saying 28 points would definitely win.
[32:38] Speaker 3: Sure, for sure. 28 with these two teams is like 70, right?
[32:42] Speaker 2: But, I mean, again, can they run the ball? Can
[32:45] Speaker 2: they be more than one-dimensional? against this defense. Iowa is
[32:50] Speaker 2: 32nd in the country against the run. 33rd against third
[32:54] Speaker 2: down percentages. 25th in defense. 8th in scoring defense. They are,
[32:59] Speaker 2: I believe, 18th in sacks this year. They're very good
[33:02] Speaker 2: on defense.
[33:03] Speaker 3: It ain't gonna be easy.
[33:04] Speaker 2: So did you see anything from Brian Bonner? Clearly they
[33:08] Speaker 2: have listened to you. They're done with Trey Cooley.
[33:11] Speaker 3: Thank you. I mean there's nothing going on there with
[33:13] Speaker 3: Trey Cooley.
[33:13] Speaker 2: My respects to Trey Cooley. Unless somebody gets hurt. Did
[33:17] Speaker 2: you see enough? That'll Bonner to make you think that
[33:19] Speaker 2: they can run the ball against a premier defense like Iowa?
[33:22] Speaker 6: Well, I think they have a running back that can
[33:24] Speaker 6: do it as long as the offensive line does their part.
[33:27] Speaker 6: I think Brian Bonner showed me some patience. He showed
[33:29] Speaker 6: me the ability to find the hole. He missed one
[33:32] Speaker 6: or two, but that's going to happen. He's still a
[33:34] Speaker 6: young guy. He put his head down. He's Fell forward.
[33:38] Speaker 6: He ran strong. He ran confidently. That's the thing with
[33:40] Speaker 6: running backs, man. You got to get their confidence. If
[33:42] Speaker 6: you only allow the guy to get four and five
[33:44] Speaker 6: carries here and there, he's still thinking, I'm a high
[33:47] Speaker 6: school player. I don't go against guys this big, and
[33:50] Speaker 6: I'm not getting hit. But now he's taking those hits.
[33:52] Speaker 6: He's had success. He's going to go out there and
[33:54] Speaker 6: run confidently. So if the offensive line does their job,
[33:58] Speaker 6: I think Brian Bonner is good enough. I'm not saying
[34:00] Speaker 6: he's Napoleon Kaufman or Corey Dillon, but, you know, he
[34:03] Speaker 6: might be a Greg Lewis where he can get four
[34:05] Speaker 6: or five, six yards when it's there. So I think
[34:08] Speaker 6: he can be a really effective player.
[34:10] Speaker 3: Well, go ahead, Mario.
[34:11] Speaker 4: I think if you give him a chance, just what
[34:13] Speaker 4: we talked about last week, give this young man a chance.
[34:15] Speaker 4: I think if we do have the Iowa mentality and
[34:18] Speaker 4: we're going to run it no matter what and give
[34:20] Speaker 4: this young man the ball, he averaged like 4.7 yards
[34:23] Speaker 4: a carry.
[34:23] Speaker 3: He can do the same.
[34:24] Speaker 2: Well, the story came out a while ago. Hank Brown,
[34:26] Speaker 2: the starting quarterback for Iowa, has an AC joint sprain
[34:29] Speaker 2: that came out of the Ohio State game, and he
[34:31] Speaker 2: may not play in this game for Iowa.
[34:33] Speaker 3: I feel bad, man.
[34:34] Speaker 9: Dang.
[34:35] Speaker 2: And they got a guy, their backup, Jeremy Heklinski, is
[34:39] Speaker 2: the backup quarterback who came in against Ohio State, would
[34:41] Speaker 2: get the start if Hank Brown cannot go.
[34:43] Speaker 3: So fine by me, right? I mean, no problem, man.
[34:46] Speaker 6: We need whatever help we can get. I need their
[34:49] Speaker 6: offensive guards and tackles to not be able to play.
[34:50] Speaker 6: How about the entire defensive line? How's that sound?
[34:53] Speaker 2: All right, 2 o'clock pregame show.
[34:55] Speaker 3: What are you doing Friday, by the way?
[34:57] Speaker 6: I'm the honorary captain. So I'm going to talk to
[34:59] Speaker 6: these guys and get them fired up. So when they
[35:00] Speaker 6: win against Iowa, I want you guys to give me
[35:03] Speaker 6: all the credit, Mario Bailey.
[35:05] Speaker 7: They win.
[35:05] Speaker 3: I want you to make sure I get the credit.
[35:08] Speaker 3: If they lose Friday? Then they got to keep getting better. Okay.
[35:12] Speaker 2: So let me ask you this. So we switched the
[35:14] Speaker 2: show today to accommodate you.
[35:15] Speaker 5: Yes.
[35:16] Speaker 2: You're going to miss the second hour of Friday's pregame
[35:18] Speaker 2: to accommodate you.
[35:19] Speaker 3: Yes. What else you want? Anything else? I want Mario
[35:21] Speaker 3: to not get two weeks off every year. Okay.
[35:25] Speaker 2: Are you going to tell the team in your little
[35:27] Speaker 2: pregame speech that you had a baby in college?
[35:30] Speaker 3: Yeah. You know what you– I'm not even going to
[35:32] Speaker 3: say it.
[35:35] Speaker 6: I'm sure there are guys on that team who got babies.
[35:40] Speaker 3: Give them the Greg Lewis warning. I had a baby
[35:44] Speaker 3: in college. All right. We'll see you Friday at 2.
[35:46] Speaker 3: All right. On campus for the pregame show. We're going
[35:50] Speaker 3: to break.
[35:50] Speaker 2: John Wilder joins us at 5. Mike Benton will join
[35:53] Speaker 2: us from Climate Pledge Arena before the Kraken and Knights
[35:56] Speaker 2: coming up around 545 tonight before faceoff at 640 on
[35:59] Speaker 2: 93.3 KJRFM.
[36:00] Speaker 3: Go Dogs.
