[0:00] Speaker 1: It's time for our weekly conversation with college football analyst
[0:04] Speaker 1: Petros Papadakis.
[0:05] Speaker 2: Not that I'm a smart guy, I'm stupid.
[0:07] Speaker 3: Brought to you by Sweet James Accident Attorneys. 41 yards!
[0:11] Speaker 3: If you're hurt.
[0:12] Speaker 1: In an accident, call Sweet James right away at 800-500-5200.
[0:17] Speaker 1: Sweet James will be sweet to you, but tough on
[0:19] Speaker 1: insurance companies that will bully you. Baruch Atah Adonai, Baruch
[0:26] Speaker 1: Atah Ushallah.
[0:29] Speaker 3: And now with Petros, here's Dave Softy Muller.
[0:32] Speaker 2: Losers.
[0:33] Speaker 3: All right, here we go, baby, on a busy Wednesday.
[0:36] Speaker 4: Normally at 4 o'clock, but wanted to give our buddy
[0:39] Speaker 4: here some time to get off the air, get in
[0:40] Speaker 4: the car, and exit Chavez Ravine. Because there is no chance,
[0:44] Speaker 4: no way, this guy would even remotely think about sticking
[0:47] Speaker 4: around for Game 3 of the NLCS.
[0:50] Speaker 3: Here he is, our buddy, Dave.
[0:52] Speaker 4: One half of the legendary, fabled Petros and Money Show
[0:55] Speaker 4: in Southern California. College football analyst, former USC superstar, one
[1:00] Speaker 4: damn fine Greek-American, my friend, husband of the year, father
[1:03] Speaker 4: of the month, Petros Papadakis.
[1:05] Speaker 3: Brought to you by.
[1:07] Speaker 4: How do I sound?
[1:11] Speaker 3: You sound terrible, to be honest with you. I'm sorry.
[1:13] Speaker 3: I cannot lie.
[1:14] Speaker 2: Really? Yeah, bad. It's bad. Like how bad is bad?
[1:20] Speaker 4: Scale of one to 10, 10 being the best one
[1:23] Speaker 4: being the worst.
[1:23] Speaker 3: I'd say it's a 1.73.
[1:26] Speaker 2: All right. I'll change to it. All right. All right.
[1:30] Speaker 2: How about this? Now I have the phone in my head.
[1:33] Speaker 3: Way better.
[1:33] Speaker 2: Yes.
[1:34] Speaker 3: Break the law. The hell with Bluetooth. The hell with
[1:36] Speaker 3: the wireless. Come on, man. Break the law.
[1:38] Speaker 2: There's cops everywhere. And it's places crawling with freaking five. Oh,
[1:42] Speaker 2: but I brought you my sweet James. The dense beard
[1:45] Speaker 2: of justice he can jump through for you if you've
[1:47] Speaker 2: ever been in a car accident or a motorcycle accident.
[1:50] Speaker 2: If a dog has ever bitten your ball, get those
[1:54] Speaker 2: ancient secrets in which you extract the mud from your...
[1:58] Speaker 2: Give him a call at 809-BILLION. That's 809-BILLION. Or switch it.
[2:04] Speaker 3: Yeah, your phone's already breaking up, man. It's not going
[2:06] Speaker 3: to work. Jack, so you want to jump on the
[2:08] Speaker 3: air and confirm that, by the way? No, it was
[2:09] Speaker 3: better the previous time. That was just because he was
[2:11] Speaker 3: pulling the phone away. Okay, so you want to go
[2:13] Speaker 3: back to the Bluetooth? Is that what you're telling me?
[2:15] Speaker 2: Why?
[2:15] Speaker 4: Because that just sounded terrible there. Your phone was breaking up, man.
[2:19] Speaker 4: It was awful.
[2:19] Speaker 3: I got like every 19th word.
[2:23] Speaker 2: Well, I'm in Chavez Ravine, for God's sake. I told
[2:25] Speaker 2: you we should have taped this.
[2:29] Speaker 4: That's not what you said, number one. And second of all,
[2:31] Speaker 4: we never tape. We're always live.
[2:33] Speaker 3: Wink, wink.
[2:33] Speaker 4: All right, let's jump into it. Let's jump into it.
[2:36] Speaker 4: All right, let's get what we can out of you.
[2:38] Speaker 4: All right, we'll just suck up as much as we
[2:41] Speaker 4: can here and then move on if it doesn't work.
[2:43] Speaker 2: Well, that doesn't feel good. That doesn't feel good at all. Well,
[2:46] Speaker 2: let's get what we can.
[2:47] Speaker 3: That's I don't know what to tell you, pal.
[2:49] Speaker 4: I want to just get to the gist of this
[2:51] Speaker 4: before your phone melts into your brain. UW got hammered
[2:57] Speaker 4: by Iowa Friday. Now they're heading to Purdue. Husky fans
[3:01] Speaker 4: are all worked up. Washington fans are all worked up.
[3:04] Speaker 3: Where do you make it what's happening here on Motley, man?
[3:08] Speaker 2: Well, I think they have a right to be worked up.
[3:10] Speaker 2: They have a right to be angry because every time
[3:14] Speaker 2: the team falters, the head coach starts to bitch about
[3:18] Speaker 2: the fact that he doesn't have any money. And his
[3:21] Speaker 2: message in the preseason had nothing to do with money.
[3:24] Speaker 2: It had to do with building a team and not
[3:27] Speaker 2: taking transfers and things like that. And then all of
[3:29] Speaker 2: a sudden things get a little rough during the season
[3:32] Speaker 2: and people are criticizing you and you have a problem
[3:35] Speaker 2: with your roster and you have a problem with the
[3:38] Speaker 2: amount of money that you were given to go get
[3:40] Speaker 2: your roster. You weren't saying anything like that when the
[3:43] Speaker 2: team was ranked and you were acting all cool. And
[3:45] Speaker 2: this goes back softly to the stuff we've talked about
[3:49] Speaker 2: for a long time. This is a guy that doesn't
[3:52] Speaker 2: have a magnetic personality. And he's very defensive and he's
[3:56] Speaker 2: a little bit sour and vinegary and snarky. And when
[4:00] Speaker 2: things go wrong, you really start to see that. And
[4:03] Speaker 2: it's not a good side. It's not a likable side.
[4:06] Speaker 2: And you're starting to see why a lot of those
[4:08] Speaker 2: Arizona football players didn't want to come with them to Montlake.
[4:12] Speaker 2: All right.
[4:13] Speaker 3: Well, okay.
[4:15] Speaker 4: That just paints a pretty terrible picture for UW football
[4:18] Speaker 4: right now.
[4:19] Speaker 3: No doubt.
[4:20] Speaker 2: I'm just glad that you could hear me. I'm just
[4:22] Speaker 2: glad that it was legible to a certain degree and understandable.
[4:26] Speaker 2: Thank you.
[4:26] Speaker 3: What was that? Your phone just broke up.
[4:29] Speaker 2: Don't you say, I don't know if it's working or not,
[4:31] Speaker 2: and you just torture me, and I'm tired of it.
[4:33] Speaker 3: I'm kidding.
[4:34] Speaker 4: Well, how do you handle the DeMond Williams story, right?
[4:36] Speaker 4: So he hurts his ribs against Iowa. Elijah Brown comes in,
[4:41] Speaker 4: looks good, but it's 27-3 when he came in. Defense
[4:46] Speaker 4: couldn't stop anybody. They had a really bad night against
[4:49] Speaker 4: the run, no doubt. And now Elijah's likely going to
[4:52] Speaker 4: start Friday against Purdue. Do you believe that you can
[4:56] Speaker 4: lose your job due to injury? And if Elijah Brown
[4:59] Speaker 4: plays well, should he continue to keep the job no
[5:01] Speaker 4: matter what the team is paying DeMond Williams?
[5:05] Speaker 2: I think DeMond Williams should have lost his job when
[5:07] Speaker 2: he tried to leave. And I know that it was
[5:11] Speaker 2: a desperate thing to keep him. And what happened in
[5:14] Speaker 2: the moment is what happened in the moment. But I
[5:17] Speaker 2: think looking back, most Washington people would agree that we
[5:22] Speaker 2: should have let this guy go. If somebody doesn't want
[5:24] Speaker 2: to be there, forcing them to stay, like any relationship
[5:28] Speaker 2: you've ever been in, is not a recipe for trust
[5:33] Speaker 2: and a recipe for success. And it certainly hasn't worked
[5:38] Speaker 2: for the rest of the team. And you said it yourself, Safi,
[5:41] Speaker 2: I think on a tweet, they played harder and more
[5:45] Speaker 2: alert and they surged. more physically for Elijah than they
[5:51] Speaker 2: did for DeMond. And that might not even be a
[5:54] Speaker 2: conscious thing for the players, for the offense, but it's
[5:59] Speaker 2: a different feel and it's a different guy. And it's
[6:02] Speaker 2: a guy who didn't try to betray the whole football
[6:04] Speaker 2: team in the middle of a funeral inside the athletic
[6:07] Speaker 2: department for a young person. So the tumult of the
[6:12] Speaker 2: offseason has followed Washington into this season. I'm not sure...
[6:17] Speaker 2: if there was a better way to handle it in
[6:19] Speaker 2: the moment that, you know, hindsight in these situations is
[6:23] Speaker 2: always a lot easier to criticize people. But I think that,
[6:27] Speaker 2: and the true personality of Jed fish have kind of
[6:31] Speaker 2: sunk this team before things even started. I mean, when
[6:34] Speaker 2: Jed fish is performing for the fan base and throwing
[6:39] Speaker 2: down his headset and acting like a petulant child, when
[6:43] Speaker 2: they can't get a yard against Washington state, and acting
[6:46] Speaker 2: like he's doing something and making some great statement. Well,
[6:50] Speaker 2: are you going to throw your headset when I was
[6:53] Speaker 2: running for eight yards a clip? Are you going to
[6:55] Speaker 2: get angry and get all pissy about that and yell
[6:59] Speaker 2: at the sideline person about that yet? Or are those
[7:02] Speaker 2: performances over and now you have to make excuses? I'm
[7:06] Speaker 2: telling you, this guy's media personality and the way he
[7:10] Speaker 2: tries to act by... poo-pooing the last moment and trying
[7:15] Speaker 2: to act like he never said what he said three
[7:17] Speaker 2: weeks ago is getting pretty tired. And I think the
[7:21] Speaker 2: people of Seattle have seen that.
[7:23] Speaker 4: Well, I think he inherited a really difficult situation. There's
[7:27] Speaker 4: no doubt about it with every offensive player walking away,
[7:30] Speaker 4: but it's also the transfer portal.
[7:32] Speaker 2: Era.
[7:33] Speaker 4: And I've said before, Petros, many times that if I
[7:35] Speaker 4: had money to spend, I'm spending it on the portal.
[7:38] Speaker 4: I'm going out and getting guys that have already been
[7:40] Speaker 4: coached up, right? I'm taking advantage of the fruits of
[7:43] Speaker 4: somebody else's labor. And Jed doesn't agree with that. He
[7:46] Speaker 4: wants high school guys. I mean, how would you build
[7:49] Speaker 4: a roster if you were in charge of one?
[7:51] Speaker 2: Tell us. Well, I think that nobody wants... However you're
[7:56] Speaker 2: going to build a roster, nobody wants to hear, I
[8:00] Speaker 2: need time anymore because of whatever they call the Signetti effect.
[8:05] Speaker 2: You look at what Bob Chesney's done at UCLA. Nobody
[8:10] Speaker 2: recognizes half of those players, more than half of those
[8:13] Speaker 2: players on the UCLA roster. And now that Nico Iamaleava
[8:19] Speaker 2: is out, the whole team... is unrecognizable. Yeah. But even
[8:24] Speaker 2: though they can't figure out the A clap, they play together.
[8:28] Speaker 2: They have a purpose. They play for each other. And
[8:31] Speaker 2: they play hard. And a lot of those guys never
[8:33] Speaker 2: knew each other last year. Some of them are coming
[8:36] Speaker 2: all the way from weird-ass places like Delaware and Virginia.
[8:41] Speaker 2: And suddenly they're here in what everybody thought was an
[8:43] Speaker 2: impossible football situation in Westwood. And look at what they've done.
[8:49] Speaker 2: Nobody wants to hear, look at what I inherited. I
[8:52] Speaker 2: don't have enough money. Nobody wants to hear those excuses anymore.
[8:56] Speaker 2: Inspire players and go out and win football games. Look
[9:00] Speaker 2: at what's happening right now in Corvallis. Right. Are they
[9:03] Speaker 2: sitting on a pot of gold like a leprechaun? No, no.
[9:06] Speaker 2: They have enthusiasm. They have belief. They have belief in
[9:10] Speaker 2: each other. And that's what we want to see when
[9:12] Speaker 2: we watch football games. We don't want to say, well,
[9:14] Speaker 2: this guy's getting paid this much and this guy's getting
[9:17] Speaker 2: paid this much. I enough to pay that guy. You're
[9:20] Speaker 2: a football coach. Go inspire the players and get them
[9:23] Speaker 2: to fight for you. That's why you get paid millions
[9:25] Speaker 2: of dollars not to act like some CEO who's been
[9:29] Speaker 2: stabbed in the back by a bunch of 18-year-olds. I'm
[9:32] Speaker 2: not buying it.
[9:34] Speaker 4: Petros Papadakis, who's not buying it, is with us on
[9:37] Speaker 4: the air. You mentioned Jamarcus Shepard.
[9:39] Speaker 2: I'm glad you understood me.
[9:41] Speaker 4: Well, I'm getting like every fourth word, but it's enough
[9:44] Speaker 4: to parse it together.
[9:44] Speaker 3: No, don't say that.
[9:45] Speaker 2: That's not cool. Don't say that. That's not cool.
[9:49] Speaker 4: You mentioned Jamarcus Shepard, our old pal, wide receiver coach
[9:53] Speaker 4: for Kalen, coach to Doonze, McMillan, Jalen Polk, all those
[9:57] Speaker 4: guys here at UW, and took them all way to
[10:00] Speaker 4: the college football national championship. Do you think he could
[10:04] Speaker 4: be one and done in Corvallis? I was looking at
[10:06] Speaker 4: his buyout. It's only about $ 6 million. If he leaves
[10:09] Speaker 4: after a year, somebody could cover that easily. Or do
[10:13] Speaker 4: you think he's going to maybe stick around? Because I
[10:15] Speaker 4: guess the question is, if you want Jamarcus Shepard, do
[10:18] Speaker 4: you have to act quick to get him?
[10:21] Speaker 2: That's a great question. And I mean, UW's interested in him, right?
[10:28] Speaker 2: And I'm sure Jonathan Smith is sad that the UW
[10:32] Speaker 2: window closed on him and he took the wrong job.
[10:35] Speaker 2: And I'm sure UW is probably at this point sad
[10:39] Speaker 2: that they hired Jed Fish instead because of the way
[10:42] Speaker 2: things have played out, especially this year. I love Shepard,
[10:47] Speaker 2: and I think he's a special coach. I don't know
[10:51] Speaker 2: what they can do in Corvallis to keep him. It's
[10:53] Speaker 2: a little unfortunate in that way, but watching that place
[10:56] Speaker 2: play And it's not like they had a great start,
[10:59] Speaker 2: but watching that place ignite with excitement because the guy
[11:02] Speaker 2: has an infectious attitude to lead is a great example
[11:06] Speaker 2: of what's not happening at USC, even though they just
[11:09] Speaker 2: won a big game at Penn State, what's not happening
[11:13] Speaker 2: at Washington. I mean, this guy has infected the community
[11:17] Speaker 2: a lot like Bob Chesney. But those guys that we're
[11:20] Speaker 2: talking about, Bob Chesney and Shepard, they're going to be
[11:23] Speaker 2: a couple of the hottest coaches in America down the stretch,
[11:26] Speaker 2: probably regardless of how the rest of the season plays
[11:30] Speaker 2: out for both teams. Yeah.
[11:31] Speaker 4: Hey, did you watch the Alabama-Georgia game on Saturday? Oh,
[11:34] Speaker 4: by the way, you see Kalen flip out in the
[11:35] Speaker 4: sideline there.
[11:37] Speaker 2: Yeah, you just cost us the game, he told that
[11:40] Speaker 2: guy a bunch of times over and over and over again. And,
[11:44] Speaker 2: you know, honestly, if you pay a guy millions of dollars,
[11:48] Speaker 2: I know they're only 19 years old and all, but
[11:50] Speaker 2: this is SEC football on the highest level and the
[11:54] Speaker 2: biggest stage, Alabama, Georgia. These guys all get paid at
[11:58] Speaker 2: least a million dollars who are out there. I mean,
[12:01] Speaker 2: the oldest... Freshmen are like 22 now. The guy Trent Mosley,
[12:06] Speaker 2: the great freshman for USC, is like 21 years old
[12:09] Speaker 2: or something. I don't care if you want to mother-eff
[12:11] Speaker 2: that guy a little bit on the sideline. He's not
[12:13] Speaker 2: a baby seal like the guy Jimmy Lake punched. I don't...
[12:17] Speaker 2: I don't... I don't care anymore if a guy gets
[12:22] Speaker 2: a little bit aired out on the sideline. I mean,
[12:24] Speaker 2: the long snappers making six figures, I don't want to
[12:27] Speaker 2: hear it anymore. I'm sorry you got butt hurt, Alabama player,
[12:30] Speaker 2: who did the personal foul. Wow.
[12:33] Speaker 4: Yeah, God bless Rocky Fuavai, by the way, from UW.
[12:39] Speaker 4: who took one to the noggin by Jimmy Lake. I
[12:42] Speaker 4: believe that was during the Oregon game, if I'm not mistaken.
[12:45] Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I got to be honest with you.
[12:47] Speaker 2: If Jimmy Lake didn't sock that guy, they might still
[12:50] Speaker 2: be trying to fire him over there.
[12:51] Speaker 3: What was that? Your phone broke up. I didn't get
[12:54] Speaker 3: that part.
[12:55] Speaker 2: Sorry.
[12:56] Speaker 3: Shut up!
[12:57] Speaker 2: Shut up!
[12:57] Speaker 4: Hey, are people fired up for the Dodgers, man? It
[13:01] Speaker 4: kind of feels like they're a little jaded down there.
[13:03] Speaker 2: What?
[13:04] Speaker 4: Maybe down 2-0, the apathy's starting to set in a
[13:07] Speaker 4: little bit.
[13:07] Speaker 2: What do you think? I just left Dodger Stadium. It's
[13:12] Speaker 2: a freaking zoo. Okay, good. I'm wrong. Everybody wants, I mean, look,
[13:17] Speaker 2: when the Dodgers play in L.A. when they're in the playoffs, everybody,
[13:21] Speaker 2: just like anywhere with Seattle, I'm sure it's the same,
[13:24] Speaker 2: though it doesn't happen very often with the Mariners, but
[13:27] Speaker 2: of course your experience with the Seahawks, I would tell you.
[13:31] Speaker 2: Everybody in the town, like even people at my sister's
[13:33] Speaker 2: yoga studio, who I don't even know if they speak English,
[13:37] Speaker 2: come up to me and ask me why they haven't
[13:39] Speaker 2: benched Otani. And it's like, oh my God. You know, people,
[13:42] Speaker 2: this time of year, everybody gets very much invested. But
[13:46] Speaker 2: the Otani thing is really interesting. I mean, here's a
[13:49] Speaker 2: guy that yesterday, half the fan base wants him benched
[13:54] Speaker 2: because he can't hit. And I don't think he's benchable.
[13:57] Speaker 2: I don't think... you can bench a guy that dictates
[14:00] Speaker 2: to the team like Otani does. So they had to
[14:04] Speaker 2: have like a whole press conference yesterday. And then Otani
[14:07] Speaker 2: spoke where he wasn't scheduled to, but I think he
[14:10] Speaker 2: wanted to take some of the slings and arrows of
[14:13] Speaker 2: outrageous fortune to the chest because his teammates are tired
[14:16] Speaker 2: of answering questions about him. We'll see how he performs tonight.
[14:20] Speaker 2: He's batting all the way down at six. Right. And
[14:23] Speaker 2: a great, a great Seattle native. Yeah. Like me, the
[14:29] Speaker 2: great Blake Snell has got to pitch the game of
[14:32] Speaker 2: his life. It's the game of his career for the Dodgers.
[14:36] Speaker 2: He did not pitch well in game two of the
[14:42] Speaker 2: last series. So let's see what he can do here
[14:45] Speaker 2: in the NLCS after Yoshi Yamamoto laid a very rare
[14:49] Speaker 2: playoff egg there. in the last one in Milwaukee. So
[14:53] Speaker 2: this is a must-win game tonight for the Dodgers, but
[14:56] Speaker 2: I wouldn't use the word apathy, Softy. Apathy is what
[14:59] Speaker 2: happens in Seattle with the Mariners.
[15:03] Speaker 3: What was that? Your phone broke up.
[15:06] Speaker 2: I'm saying we have a lot of angry Mexican fans.
[15:10] Speaker 3: Your sister owns a yoga studio? I didn't know that.
[15:14] Speaker 2: You didn't know that? I'm there every day.
[15:16] Speaker 3: I know that you do yoga.
[15:17] Speaker 2: It's an award-winning... It's an award-winning yoga studio, Kefi Yoga
[15:21] Speaker 2: in LaMita, Torrance, California. Okay. And you can look it up.
[15:26] Speaker 2: It's very famous. K-E-F-I. It has a Greek motif.
[15:31] Speaker 3: K-E-F-I.
[15:32] Speaker 4: Yeah, I knew that you were big into yoga. I
[15:33] Speaker 4: didn't know that your sister owned the studio. Would you
[15:36] Speaker 4: recommend yoga for me? I need to limber up a
[15:38] Speaker 4: little bit, man.
[15:38] Speaker 2: Seriously. I would recommend yoga for everybody. No one is
[15:42] Speaker 2: too old, too young, or too sick, or too... flexible
[15:48] Speaker 2: for yoga. Yoga is a breathing practice that helps you
[15:53] Speaker 2: regulate your body. And it also is a workout, but
[15:58] Speaker 2: it's like a mindfulness practice as well. And it's been
[16:03] Speaker 2: very good for me. I don't know if you recognize
[16:05] Speaker 2: this over the years, Safi, but I'm not exactly all there.
[16:09] Speaker 2: As a person. So, you know, I can I anything
[16:12] Speaker 2: I can do to help myself regulate is is welcome.
[16:15] Speaker 2: And yoga has been very good for me as an
[16:18] Speaker 2: old beat up football player. I think it's very good
[16:20] Speaker 2: for everybody. And I see the old people in yoga
[16:23] Speaker 2: class and they're standing up straight. Right. Yeah. And I
[16:26] Speaker 2: see so many people that I played football with around
[16:30] Speaker 2: and they're hunched. So I'm trying to be in the
[16:33] Speaker 2: yoga studio so I can stand up straight.
[16:35] Speaker 3: Yeah, that's me. I'm hunched. And I can barely even
[16:38] Speaker 3: touch my toes, and I'm still hunched. So I don't know.
[16:41] Speaker 3: Maybe next time I'm down there.
[16:44] Speaker 2: All the girls think you're a guy. You've got Marty
[16:47] Speaker 2: Feldman eyes.
[16:49] Speaker 4: Maybe next time I'm in L.A., we'll swing by the
[16:51] Speaker 4: Kefi Yoga Studio, and you can show me what's up.
[16:54] Speaker 3: Hey, where are you at this weekend.
[16:55] Speaker 2: By the way?
[16:56] Speaker 3: What are you doing?
[16:58] Speaker 2: I have the revival read. So I will be at Waco, Texas.
[17:02] Speaker 2: Baylor's pretty good.
[17:03] Speaker 3: Okay.
[17:05] Speaker 2: Baylor's four, four and one. And they're hosting our old friend,
[17:09] Speaker 2: Sonny Dykes and TCU. Okay. Who's having some trouble with
[17:14] Speaker 2: their offensive pro style transition. You know, it used to
[17:17] Speaker 2: be the whole big 12. It was a race to
[17:19] Speaker 2: see who could score 50. And now everybody's moving to
[17:23] Speaker 2: like a four down defense and a pro style offense
[17:26] Speaker 2: and try not to turn the ball over. So yeah,
[17:29] Speaker 2: kind of an interesting transition and I'm not being facetious
[17:34] Speaker 2: or anything. I've done this game in the past, Texas
[17:38] Speaker 2: Christian going to Baylor and the revival re and it
[17:42] Speaker 2: is doing Texas football. in Texas is a lot of fun.
[17:48] Speaker 2: And the way people, the way people treat you, just
[17:51] Speaker 2: the whole, the whole overall feeling and the fanfare around
[17:56] Speaker 2: the event of a football game is a pretty special
[17:59] Speaker 2: thing in the state of Texas, especially with two bigger
[18:02] Speaker 2: teams like TCU and Baylor have been pretty successful this century.
[18:06] Speaker 2: So I'm looking forward to it. It's a lot of fun.
[18:09] Speaker 3: Hey, before you go, you mentioned UCLA, Petros.
[18:12] Speaker 4: You saw where Dan Lanning is not going to punish,
[18:16] Speaker 4: what's his name, Bear Alexander, the defensive lineman. He said
[18:20] Speaker 4: he was trying to force a fumble on the play
[18:23] Speaker 4: that knocked out Nico during the game. And the guy's
[18:27] Speaker 4: punching him in the freaking throat, going for a fumble.
[18:31] Speaker 4: And Dan Lanning is not going to punish the guy.
[18:33] Speaker 4: Dan Lanning comes across sometimes as a major D-bag, by
[18:36] Speaker 4: the way. Did you think the guy should have been
[18:38] Speaker 4: suspended for punching Nico?
[18:41] Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah. I mean, if Nico's out for the year
[18:46] Speaker 2: because of a knee injury. Right. But it happened on
[18:49] Speaker 2: a play that he got punched in the neck, which
[18:51] Speaker 2: is kind of weird. Exactly.
[18:53] Speaker 1: Right.
[18:53] Speaker 2: Right. There is a little bit of a disconnect there,
[18:57] Speaker 2: but it was a very clear judo chop. Now, the
[19:01] Speaker 2: other guy was taking a swipe at the ball. then
[19:04] Speaker 2: bear did the same thing, but probably just a little late. Uh,
[19:09] Speaker 2: it looked intentional. I can understand why his coach is
[19:12] Speaker 2: defending him. Uh, It puts him in a very awkward position,
[19:18] Speaker 2: given the framing, which we've been talking about a lot
[19:21] Speaker 2: this year, with what happened with Dante Moore and the Coliseum.
[19:26] Speaker 2: I'm driving right by the LA Coliseum right now. How
[19:29] Speaker 2: about that? Where you were sweating it out just the
[19:32] Speaker 2: other day, Safi. I was. But I have to say
[19:36] Speaker 2: that Dan Lanning does a great job performing and being
[19:43] Speaker 2: that guy, quote-unquote, for the people that support Oregon football
[19:49] Speaker 2: and a lot of, I think a lot of what
[19:51] Speaker 2: he does, I don't think he's a person that doesn't
[19:54] Speaker 2: have integrity. I think he's a coach that has honor
[19:59] Speaker 2: and integrity. I really do. That's my impression. I don't
[20:01] Speaker 2: know him well, I've only covered a handful of their
[20:04] Speaker 2: games when he was there, but I liked the way
[20:08] Speaker 2: he's treated the Oregon program. A lot better than Willie
[20:11] Speaker 2: Taggart or Mario Cristobal. And I think a lot of
[20:15] Speaker 2: what he says and does is throwing red beat to
[20:18] Speaker 2: the Oregon fan base. Yes. I think this situation put
[20:23] Speaker 2: him in a tough spot. And... I mean, I don't
[20:27] Speaker 2: think he's dying on the hill of Bear Alexander as
[20:30] Speaker 2: a Saint, but I think that you could make an
[20:34] Speaker 2: argument that he was punching for the ball, but it
[20:37] Speaker 2: was late and it was egregious. Bob Chesney was right
[20:41] Speaker 2: when he says that, but if that's the hit that
[20:46] Speaker 2: took him out of the season and he's out for
[20:48] Speaker 2: the year, I don't understand how a judo chops of
[20:53] Speaker 2: the neck is what blew out your knee. That's, That's
[20:57] Speaker 2: the part of it that's a little bit of a disconnect.
[20:59] Speaker 2: for me. But Nico Amaliava, it's interesting. It's not like
[21:05] Speaker 2: he was, UCLA's been playing great, but it's not exactly
[21:08] Speaker 2: like he's been setting the world on fire this year
[21:13] Speaker 2: as the quarterback with their offensive transition. Maybe the threat
[21:17] Speaker 2: of his arm just because he's out there and throwing
[21:20] Speaker 2: the ball down the field has set up their run game,
[21:22] Speaker 2: but I'm not sure how different they're going to be
[21:25] Speaker 2: at home against Wisconsin with the other guy, Ty Dieffenbach.
[21:29] Speaker 2: He played at Cal Poly and never played at Pitt,
[21:32] Speaker 2: but he was there.
[21:33] Speaker 3: Well, you're right. Lanning plays to his base. There's no
[21:37] Speaker 3: doubt about it.
[21:37] Speaker 4: He plays to the fat-faced Oregon douches wearing North Face
[21:43] Speaker 4: vests in Eugene, and he does it very well.
[21:46] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[21:47] Speaker 3: Fat-faced, bearded Oregon douche, you know, in a North Face vest.
[21:51] Speaker 3: All right. Hey, we got through it. Great job with
[21:53] Speaker 3: the phone, man. Let's get back to the.
[21:55] Speaker 2: Don't forget about Patagonia.
[21:57] Speaker 3: Yeah, Patagonia, for sure. No doubt. And REI. You got
[22:00] Speaker 3: to include REI if you're in the PNW.
[22:02] Speaker 2: All right, man.
[22:03] Speaker 3: Great stuff.
[22:04] Speaker 2: Yeah, but you know, they are a little bit... They
[22:07] Speaker 2: wear less Tevas than the people of Seattle, and that's
[22:10] Speaker 2: always been a black mark on the people of Seattle
[22:13] Speaker 2: is those Teva sandals.
[22:16] Speaker 4: This isn't 1995 anymore, pal. You got to get up
[22:19] Speaker 4: here and walk around a little bit.
[22:20] Speaker 2: All right. Well, you walk around. There's still people at them.
[22:24] Speaker 2: Keep your eyes open, Softy. Look down at the ground.
[22:26] Speaker 2: You'll see.
[22:29] Speaker 4: As Morgan Freeman said, though, in Shawshank Redemption, who really
[22:32] Speaker 4: looks at another man's shoes? Doesn't happen very often. We'll
[22:36] Speaker 4: get out of here.
[22:37] Speaker 3: Good stuff. Enjoy the game tonight. We'll talk in a week, man.
[22:39] Speaker 3: Love you.
[22:42] Speaker 2: The fish.
[22:43] Speaker 3: See you, buddy. Petros Papadakis with us. We're going to break.
[22:47] Speaker 4: Text the modules, and then Kevin Harlan joins at 5
[22:50] Speaker 4: tonight right here on 93.3 KJRFM.
