[0:25] Speaker 1: Now with Rick Neuheisel, here's Softie and Dick.
[0:28] Speaker 3: Okay, I would like to start off, by the way,
[0:30] Speaker 3: with some positive news. He's always telling me I start
[0:34] Speaker 3: off with a negative. I will now start off with
[0:35] Speaker 3: a positive. This is a man that is now 3-1
[0:38] Speaker 3: in his first four games on the air because he nailed,
[0:42] Speaker 3: and I mean nailed, Temple plus the points against Toledo
[0:46] Speaker 3: last week.
[0:47] Speaker 4: 3-1, 75%. You're on a roll, big boy. How are you, coach?
[0:52] Speaker 2: I am well, boys. How are you two? You ready
[0:55] Speaker 2: for the Golden Gophers?
[0:57] Speaker 5: Yes.
[0:57] Speaker 3: We are. We are ready for the Golden Gophers. I
[0:59] Speaker 3: just hope the Huskies are ready for the Golden Gophers.
[1:02] Speaker 3: We'll chat about them in a second. Hey, before we
[1:05] Speaker 3: get going here, I want to play a clip for you. Tennessee,
[1:09] Speaker 3: Texas this weekend, and apparently President Trump is going to
[1:13] Speaker 3: be at the game. I want to play a clip
[1:15] Speaker 3: from Steve Sarkeesian here. I don't know if you've heard
[1:18] Speaker 3: this or not.
[1:19] Speaker 4: I want you to.
[1:19] Speaker 3: Listen to this clip, and you tell me if you
[1:22] Speaker 3: ever had to deal with this when you were coaching
[1:24] Speaker 3: in college football.
[1:25] Speaker 4: Jackson, go ahead.
[1:26] Speaker 5: The one thing that you have to be aware of
[1:28] Speaker 5: when the president goes to any game is that anytime
[1:31] Speaker 5: he enters the stadium or leaves the stadium or changes
[1:34] Speaker 5: locations within the stadium, they cut all communication. So they
[1:38] Speaker 5: cut your headsets. They cut headsets to coaches. They cut
[1:42] Speaker 5: headsets to coach-to-player communication. So you have to have a
[1:46] Speaker 5: plan for that if and or when, and you get
[1:48] Speaker 5: no warning. So that just gets cut out. So you
[1:50] Speaker 5: have to have a plan for that to adjust if
[1:53] Speaker 5: and or when he If he comes in middle of
[1:55] Speaker 5: the first quarter or leaves in the fourth quarter or
[1:58] Speaker 5: decides he's got to use the restroom, whatever that looks like,
[2:01] Speaker 5: you've got to be prepared to have no comms for
[2:04] Speaker 5: a short amount of time.
[2:06] Speaker 4: Okay, so that makes no sense to me, Rick.
[2:08] Speaker 3: You're telling me that fourth quarter, 35-35, two minutes to go,
[2:11] Speaker 3: Texas has the ball. Steve Sarkeesian calling a play. All right,
[2:14] Speaker 3: I want blue right. And they just cut it.
[2:19] Speaker 4: How does that make any sense?
[2:22] Speaker 2: Well, hopefully the president is such a football fan that
[2:24] Speaker 2: he won't want to leave when it's 35-35. But that's
[2:29] Speaker 2: a first for me. I had not heard that before.
[2:32] Speaker 2: It makes total security sense. Okay. But it is a–
[2:40] Speaker 2: that's a mind number in terms of trying to figure
[2:43] Speaker 2: out just being ready for comms to drop. Hand signals,
[2:48] Speaker 2: here we come again.
[2:49] Speaker 4: Yeah, so what would you do, you and Arch?
[2:51] Speaker 6: I mean, would this be a meeting that you would
[2:53] Speaker 6: have ahead of time and like, okay, here's what we're
[2:55] Speaker 6: going to do and what would the plan, what would
[2:57] Speaker 6: the new Heisel plan be?
[2:59] Speaker 2: Well, you just go back to your old way of communicating, right?
[3:03] Speaker 2: You have hand signals. You can have a wristband that
[3:06] Speaker 2: the quarterback wears. You can have, you know, run in
[3:10] Speaker 2: a player. The old days we used to rotate receivers, right?
[3:14] Speaker 2: Maybe somebody would run in with the play and away
[3:16] Speaker 2: you go. So there's lots of ways to still communicate.
[3:20] Speaker 2: I remember Terry Donahue at UCLA used to hate having
[3:25] Speaker 2: signals because some fan invariably would say, they're reading your signals.
[3:30] Speaker 2: They know what you're doing. So that's why we would
[3:33] Speaker 2: just keep running receivers back in and forth.
[3:35] Speaker 3: Well, Rick Neuheisel is with us. And, Coach, I want
[3:38] Speaker 3: to ask you about one of your old teams that
[3:40] Speaker 3: you coached. You know, it seems like when we talk
[3:42] Speaker 3: about your ex-teams, we talk a lot about UCLA. We
[3:44] Speaker 3: talk a lot about UW. But we don't often mention
[3:47] Speaker 3: what happened in Colorado where you had great success as
[3:50] Speaker 3: a youngster. I think you were like 17 years younger
[3:52] Speaker 3: than I am now when you were coaching in Colorado,
[3:55] Speaker 3: which is still.
[3:56] Speaker 4: Weird to me.
[3:56] Speaker 3: But how about your guy, Deion, man? I mean, remember
[3:59] Speaker 3: that big win over TCU? That feels like 1,000 years
[4:00] Speaker 3: ago now. For Deion Sanders, he's throwing guys off the
[4:04] Speaker 3: team down there. The fans are getting impatient. How much
[4:07] Speaker 3: longer do you think primetime hangs out in Boulder?
[4:11] Speaker 2: You know, that's a great question. His health has been
[4:14] Speaker 2: an issue. But what he's done that I don't know
[4:17] Speaker 2: that can be done on any level of consistency is
[4:20] Speaker 2: he's recruited by the phone. He has not gone out
[4:24] Speaker 2: and created relationships with people before they get there. So
[4:28] Speaker 2: when they get there, he's kind of stuck with them.
[4:31] Speaker 2: And if they're not the kind of guys he thinks
[4:33] Speaker 2: that they should be, you're seeing what's happening. And you
[4:37] Speaker 2: just don't have that same glue that I think is
[4:41] Speaker 2: imperative to great football teams. When you walk out of
[4:45] Speaker 2: a locker room having just had a pregame talk, what's
[4:48] Speaker 2: the conversation after you leave? You've got to have those
[4:51] Speaker 2: leaders in there that are doing exactly. And it was
[4:54] Speaker 2: easier when it was his sons. or Suns in there.
[4:57] Speaker 2: Now you know who's behind you. But if you don't,
[5:00] Speaker 2: it's more troublesome. He's changed coordinators an awful lot. You know,
[5:05] Speaker 2: it'll be interesting to see if Deion. But that game
[5:08] Speaker 2: against Baylor is a monster game for both programs because
[5:12] Speaker 2: Dave Aranda needs it in the worst way, and obviously
[5:14] Speaker 2: so does Coach Prime.
[5:16] Speaker 4: Rick, what would have.
[5:17] Speaker 6: Your instruction been to North Carolina State quarterback C.J. Bailey
[5:22] Speaker 6: before he took that snap near his goal line with
[5:24] Speaker 6: six seconds left against Vandy on Saturday where he fumbled
[5:27] Speaker 6: it in the end zone.
[5:28] Speaker 4: And lost the game? And what would you have told.
[5:30] Speaker 6: Him in the locker room after that loss to try
[5:33] Speaker 6: to save his rest of his season?
[5:36] Speaker 2: Yeah, so there's two choices there. One is to build
[5:40] Speaker 2: a wing with a couple of tight ends to one side,
[5:43] Speaker 2: tell them to hold, and then you roll out. We
[5:46] Speaker 2: did this with Marcus Tuyasa-Sopo against Arizona State years ago,
[5:50] Speaker 2: and then you throw the ball as far out of
[5:52] Speaker 2: bounds as you can, as high as you can, because
[5:55] Speaker 2: the clock doesn't stop until the ball hits the ground.
[5:58] Speaker 2: And you can get seven seconds off. The clock showed six,
[6:01] Speaker 2: but that's risky when you're on the one-yard line. So
[6:04] Speaker 2: I wouldn't have done that. I would have done what
[6:07] Speaker 2: we would have taught, which is we're going to snap
[6:09] Speaker 2: at either Marcus or the punter. I think the punter
[6:12] Speaker 2: is safer. You put the punter back at the end
[6:15] Speaker 2: of the back of the end zone and then you
[6:16] Speaker 2: just hold and you build wings that just basically because
[6:20] Speaker 2: if you get a flag, the penalty is a safety.
[6:23] Speaker 2: You can give up the safety and you tell the
[6:25] Speaker 2: punter to hang in there until anybody gets close. And
[6:27] Speaker 2: then you step out of bounds with no one ever
[6:30] Speaker 2: touching you. I've never seen anybody say that it was
[6:33] Speaker 2: okay to tackle somebody because you can't practice that, especially
[6:37] Speaker 2: with your quarterback, and you can't sit there and take hits.
[6:41] Speaker 2: That's just putting the ball in a precarious position, and
[6:44] Speaker 2: obviously that was the case. It's an absolute nightmare for
[6:47] Speaker 2: Dave Dorn, who's a heck of a coach, and it's
[6:50] Speaker 2: a great win. I've never heard field goal block as
[6:55] Speaker 2: the call, and yet that was a genius call by
[6:57] Speaker 2: Clark Lee.
[6:58] Speaker 7: Yeah.
[6:59] Speaker 3: Rick Neuheisel with us, courtesy of Taco Time. Coach, I
[7:03] Speaker 3: know we got Minnesota Saturday, but I want to look
[7:06] Speaker 3: ahead just briefly to USC next weekend. Do you think
[7:11] Speaker 3: UW would have a better chance at victory against the
[7:14] Speaker 3: Trojans if they beat Oregon and they're all fat and
[7:16] Speaker 3: happy next Saturday?
[7:18] Speaker 4: Maybe they lose to Oregon, they're all pissed off next.
[7:21] Speaker 3: Saturday, or does this Saturday's game matter one iota for
[7:24] Speaker 3: UW's chances in the Coliseum next weekend?
[7:27] Speaker 2: Ideally, you'd have them fat and happy after a big
[7:32] Speaker 2: win over Oregon that kind of puts the nail in
[7:35] Speaker 2: the Oregon coffin for the CFP, at least for this fall,
[7:38] Speaker 2: especially if it were a one-sided victory, kind of like
[7:41] Speaker 2: that Oregon State game was. Although that wasn't a one-sided
[7:44] Speaker 2: on the scoreboard, it really was in the stat book.
[7:48] Speaker 2: I don't see that happening. I think so. I wouldn't
[7:51] Speaker 2: worry about it if I were Washington. What I'd be
[7:54] Speaker 2: worrying about if I were Washington is making sure that
[7:57] Speaker 2: I play fast because I watched Minnesota play on our
[8:01] Speaker 2: air the other day against Mississippi State, and they're not
[8:05] Speaker 2: fast enough to keep up with you defensively. That linebacker
[8:09] Speaker 2: level is not fast enough. So I got to play quick,
[8:13] Speaker 2: and I got to get balls into people's hands that
[8:16] Speaker 2: can go with it and see if I can't have
[8:19] Speaker 2: a big-time offensive day.
[8:21] Speaker 6: Well, the shootout of a game between USC and Oregon.
[8:24] Speaker 6: You can have one of these quarterbacks to go to
[8:26] Speaker 6: battle with in this game.
[8:27] Speaker 4: Which one are you taking?
[8:29] Speaker 2: I like them both, but I'm going to go with Dante.
[8:32] Speaker 2: I think Dante has more in the way of accuracy,
[8:38] Speaker 2: especially in a tight game. But I really like Jade Maiava,
[8:43] Speaker 2: and right now he's playing lights out. To me, though,
[8:47] Speaker 2: as much as the quarterbacks are going to be the story,
[8:50] Speaker 2: At the end of the day, when we look at
[8:51] Speaker 2: the statistics, it's going to be who was able to
[8:53] Speaker 2: run the ball. And I think Dan Lanning and his
[8:58] Speaker 2: new coordinator are more willing to run the ball if
[9:00] Speaker 2: they can. We saw Rutgers have some measure of success
[9:04] Speaker 2: last week. And I just don't know if Lincoln Riley
[9:07] Speaker 2: has the patience to do it. I think Lincoln's a
[9:10] Speaker 2: heck of a coach. But he ran for over 3,000
[9:14] Speaker 2: yards in each of the big-time seasons at Oklahoma. Since
[9:18] Speaker 2: he's been to USC, he's never run for 3,000. He
[9:22] Speaker 2: had 2,700 in Caleb's Heisman year, but since then it's
[9:26] Speaker 2: never been above 2,500. And in some of those years,
[9:29] Speaker 2: he's averaged five yards a carry. It's just kind of
[9:31] Speaker 2: like he feels like he needs to entertain rather than
[9:34] Speaker 2: just go win. And I just think that impatience is
[9:38] Speaker 2: going to cost him.
[9:40] Speaker 3: Coach, with the game on Saturday with Minnesota, talk to
[9:43] Speaker 3: us about Drake Lindsey, 6'5, 230. You know, Arkansas fans
[9:48] Speaker 3: are all pissed off because he's from Fayetteville, and they
[9:51] Speaker 3: didn't want him. And now he's in Minnesota, and Arkansas stinks.
[9:54] Speaker 3: So he's got that SEC blood in him. But, you know,
[9:57] Speaker 3: you mentioned with us, and I want to talk about
[9:59] Speaker 3: the quarterback too, but you mentioned last week, and I
[10:01] Speaker 3: don't know if you were maybe half sarcastic, you said,
[10:04] Speaker 3: let's go option football with DeMond Williams. Well, I asked
[10:06] Speaker 3: Jed Fish about calling more design runs for DeMond, and
[10:10] Speaker 3: he said no.
[10:11] Speaker 4: He said, we're not there yet.
[10:12] Speaker 3: He said, we don't mind the scrambles when things break down,
[10:16] Speaker 3: but we're not ready yet to call more design plays.
[10:18] Speaker 4: And it sounds like you might disagree with that.
[10:21] Speaker 2: Well, I just think it would open up the field
[10:25] Speaker 2: more for DeMott. It was a revelation that I didn't
[10:28] Speaker 2: realize was going to be part of the– offense as
[10:33] Speaker 2: we put in the beer with Marcus. But as it
[10:36] Speaker 2: opened up and we were able to run the ball
[10:39] Speaker 2: and help play a little defense with our offense, it
[10:42] Speaker 2: was incredible what happened in the back end and all
[10:45] Speaker 2: the opportunities that were created for all the receivers on
[10:49] Speaker 2: our team, the Chris Juergens of the world, the Wilbur
[10:51] Speaker 2: Hooks of the world. They were all down the field
[10:53] Speaker 2: making plays because you had to tackle the option every play,
[10:57] Speaker 2: whether we were running it or not. And I just
[11:00] Speaker 2: think that can be a weapon to get the running
[11:04] Speaker 2: game going so DeMond can be more back in balance.
[11:08] Speaker 2: You mentioned Drake Lindsey. He's a dropback guy. He's not
[11:11] Speaker 2: going to beat you with his legs. And for that reason,
[11:15] Speaker 2: if you can limit this running game, you can have
[11:18] Speaker 2: him back there. And this can be a big day
[11:19] Speaker 2: for the Husky pass rush.
[11:22] Speaker 6: Rick, how does Ole Miss refocus going into the Swamp
[11:26] Speaker 6: this week? It seems like a bit of a trap
[11:28] Speaker 6: game after what was, I mean, as emotional a regular
[11:31] Speaker 6: season win as you could probably ever have last week.
[11:35] Speaker 2: Yeah, that was a hell of a game. That was
[11:37] Speaker 2: big-time college football. And congratulations to Ole Miss for pulling
[11:42] Speaker 2: it out in front of all those hottie-tottie fans. Listen,
[11:47] Speaker 2: the guy, Pete Golding, this is going to, I think,
[11:49] Speaker 2: be his eighth-game coach. coaching he he's played or maybe
[11:54] Speaker 2: it's his seventh six straight six six of the seven
[11:59] Speaker 2: have been ranked opponents yeah so he's sitting there with
[12:03] Speaker 2: a chance to have a sixth uh win over ranked
[12:07] Speaker 2: opponents which to me is an incredible feat when you
[12:10] Speaker 2: start looking at it uh they have to stop jayden
[12:13] Speaker 2: baugh the running back is off to a fast start
[12:16] Speaker 2: and john sumrall will bloody your nose if he can
[12:19] Speaker 2: running the football That being said, put the game in
[12:23] Speaker 2: Aaron Filo, the Gator quarterback's hands. Make him beat you.
[12:27] Speaker 2: And if you get that game between Filo and Trinidad Chambliss,
[12:31] Speaker 2: I like Chambliss's chances.
[12:33] Speaker 7: Yeah.
[12:34] Speaker 4: Well, you know what? All that is nice and good.
[12:36] Speaker 4: And the analysis is good. But let's face it. There's
[12:39] Speaker 4: a real reason why we have you on this show
[12:41] Speaker 4: every single week. He's doing his job, too. And it's
[12:44] Speaker 4: the taco time pick of the week. He's doing his job.
[12:46] Speaker 3: My wife has a shoe habit that needs to be
[12:48] Speaker 3: fed every single week. I mean, the woman has about
[12:51] Speaker 3: 150 pairs of shoes. I don't know what Susan's doing
[12:53] Speaker 3: these days, but it's out of control.
[12:55] Speaker 4: All right? I'm going to go with a Chicken Caesar
[12:57] Speaker 4: soft taco.
[12:58] Speaker 2: Cheese the Imelda Marcos of KJR.
[13:00] Speaker 4: Is that what you're saying?
[13:02] Speaker 2: 100%.
[13:02] Speaker 3: I mean, I'm tripping over these things, Rick. It's unbelievable, man.
[13:06] Speaker 3: So I'm going with a Chicken Caesar soft taco. Last month,
[13:09] Speaker 3: last couple weeks for the Chicken Caesar soft taco. At
[13:12] Speaker 3: taco time, to go 4-1 and off to an 80% start.
[13:15] Speaker 4: Who do you like?
[13:18] Speaker 2: All right. I got my eye on that under in
[13:21] Speaker 2: the Michigan-Iowa game. Just a little sprinkle. I got... I
[13:26] Speaker 2: got my eye on the over. If Haas Haney plays
[13:28] Speaker 2: for Colorado State, I like the over in their game.
[13:32] Speaker 2: But I'm going with the team we just mentioned. I'm
[13:35] Speaker 2: going with Trinidad Chambliss. Give me three and a half
[13:38] Speaker 2: in the swamp. Listen, I can see Florida winning, but
[13:41] Speaker 2: I can't see them winning by more than a field goal.
[13:44] Speaker 2: but I'm taking Ole Miss. Give me those three and
[13:47] Speaker 2: a half, and I'll be happy all day long.
[13:49] Speaker 4: All right, Ole Miss minus the points.
[13:52] Speaker 3: It's going to be plus the points at Florida this
[13:54] Speaker 3: weekend on ABC at 1230.
[13:57] Speaker 4: Rick, great stuff. Love it. Go get them. We'll talk
[13:59] Speaker 4: in a week, man. Appreciate it, pal.
[14:01] Speaker 2: I look forward to it, boys. See you now.
[14:04] Speaker 3: All right, Rick Neuheisel, three and one so far, likes
[14:06] Speaker 3: Ole Miss and the three and a half at Florida.
[14:10] Speaker 3: This Saturday on ABC, let's get to Fact or Fiction,
[14:13] Speaker 3: brought to you by the Lucky Eagle right now.
[14:15] Speaker 4: We're set to go. Glad you're with us.
[14:17] Speaker 7: It's your shot at our weekly $ 1, 000 and the $ 10, 000
[14:22] Speaker 7: grand prize.
[14:23] Speaker 4: It's Fact or Fiction.

[14:29] Speaker 7: day feels lucky. Fact or Fiction is on. Sports Radio 93.3,
[14:33] Speaker 7: KJR FM.
[14:37] Speaker 4: All right, here we go.

[14:39] Speaker 3: and Hotel, where every day feels lucky.
[14:43] Speaker 4: Here's the deal every day on this show. We give

[14:45] Speaker 3: It's your chance to win 10,000 bucks. Most picks right

[14:51] Speaker 3: combined is going to win $ 10, 000, courtesy of the Lucky
[14:54] Speaker 3: Eagle Casino and Hotel, where every day feels lucky. Factor Fiction,
[14:59] Speaker 3: every day at 335, you get the game. All you
[15:01] Speaker 3: got to do is text, in fact, if you agree. Fiction,
[15:03] Speaker 3: if you disagree, you win. to 49451. It's very easy.
[15:07] Speaker 3: You don't even need a mouth to play. All you
[15:09] Speaker 3: need is thumbs. And if you have no thumbs, you
[15:11] Speaker 3: can use your mouth on the voice-to-text. It's very, very easy.
[15:15] Speaker 3: Anybody can do it.
[15:16] Speaker 4: Fact or fiction. Thursday, Dick Day, what do you got?
[15:19] Speaker 6: All right, well, I was thinking about going with the Chargers.
[15:22] Speaker 6: I think that's the right side. But there is a
[15:26] Speaker 6: reasonable chance that the Chargers just are a bad football team.
[15:29] Speaker 4: Sure.
[15:30] Speaker 6: So I veered off the Chargers, and I'm going back
[15:33] Speaker 6: to my team. I'm going back to my team that
[15:35] Speaker 6: I had at the beginning of the season. They're 0-2,
[15:38] Speaker 6: but they're three yards away from beating the Buffalo Bills
[15:40] Speaker 6: in week number one, and they're still over 50-50 chance
[15:43] Speaker 6: of making the playoffs, and that's the Houston Texans. Dave,
[15:48] Speaker 6: in 2023, they started 0-2. They made the playoffs. Last year,
[15:52] Speaker 6: they started 0-3, and they made the playoffs. This is
[15:56] Speaker 6: just a slow-starting team. They had their slow start, but
[15:59] Speaker 6: they know it's desperation time now. They are giving one
[16:02] Speaker 6: and a half at Indianapolis. Indy has allowed seven yards
[16:06] Speaker 6: of play. They have allowed 37 points per game, and
[16:09] Speaker 6: they are coming off a short week overtime heartbreaker against
[16:13] Speaker 6: Kansas City.
[16:14] Speaker 3: All right.
[16:15] Speaker 6: Give me the Houston Texans who have the best defense
[16:17] Speaker 6: on the field, certainly. And I think they might have
[16:19] Speaker 6: the best offense on the field as well in that game.
[16:22] Speaker 4: Houston minus one and a half at Indianapolis.
[16:26] Speaker 3: Your thing about them starting 0-3 and making the playoffs,
[16:29] Speaker 3: 0-2 making the playoffs, at some point they're going to
[16:31] Speaker 3: start 0-2 and not make the playoffs. Let's hope that
[16:33] Speaker 3: doesn't happen this year. They're giving a point and a half,
[16:36] Speaker 3: is that right?
[16:36] Speaker 4: So here's the thing. If the Colts lose this game,
[16:38] Speaker 4: they were 8-2 a year ago.
[16:41] Speaker 3: They will have lost 10 in a row since then
[16:43] Speaker 3: if they lose this game to the Texans on Sunday.
[16:45] Speaker 3: So we like Houston minus the point and a half
[16:48] Speaker 3: at the Colts on Sunday.
[16:50] Speaker 4: You like it, it's fact. You hate it, it's fiction.
[16:53] Speaker 4: To 49451.

[17:12] Speaker 3: from any correct pick on any show, and we give
[17:15] Speaker 3: somebody $ 1, 000.
[17:16] Speaker 4: So it's a pretty cool deal.
[17:17] Speaker 3: We're giving away $ 24, 000 total throughout the year with the contest.
[17:21] Speaker 3: Factor Fiction every day, 335 on our show today. We
[17:25] Speaker 3: like Houston, and I like it, by the way, Dick.
[17:27] Speaker 3: Minus the point and a half at the Colts. Get
[17:30] Speaker 3: the picks in now. Factor Fiction to 49451. We're going
[17:33] Speaker 3: to break a little fun with audio, and then Mike
[17:35] Speaker 3: Holmgren will join at 4 as we continue from the
[17:38] Speaker 3: 520 Bar and Grill on 93.3 KJRFM.
