[0:34] Speaker 2: All righty, boys and girls, here we go.
[0:37] Speaker 3: On a very, very, very, very, very busy Wednesday afternoon,
[0:40] Speaker 3: cracking hockey against the Maple Leafs. Yeah, coming up pregame 630,
[0:44] Speaker 3: face-off 7 o'clock right here on 93.3 KJRFM. But before then,
[0:49] Speaker 3: a chance to talk to one of the, let's face it,
[0:53] Speaker 3: I think more talented studio analysts in college football, color
[0:57] Speaker 3: analysts in college football. He is what they refer to
[1:01] Speaker 3: as an elite football mind at this level, former USC
[1:04] Speaker 3: football star. Greek-American legend, father of the month, husband of
[1:09] Speaker 3: the year, my friend, and a Trojan legend himself, Petros Papadakis.
[1:15] Speaker 4: Brought to you by... Sweet James, the dense beard of justice.
[1:20] Speaker 4: Nobody comes through like Sweet James. If you've ever been
[1:22] Speaker 4: in a car accident or a motorcycle accident, maybe you've
[1:25] Speaker 4: been bitten by a dog. Maybe you've been bitten by
[1:27] Speaker 4: a dog on your balls. Whatever has happened, Sweet James
[1:31] Speaker 4: knows the ancient secrets in which to extract... The money
[1:36] Speaker 4: you are owed. So give them a call at 809-000-000
[1:43] Speaker 4: or sweetjames.com.
[1:47] Speaker 2: Great to have you, pal. Great to be here, Softie.
[1:50] Speaker 2: What's the word?
[1:51] Speaker 4: How are you? How's life in the Northwest?
[1:53] Speaker 2: Good. Going to Lincoln Friday for the big game with
[1:56] Speaker 2: the Cornhuskers.
[1:57] Speaker 4: You're going to have a great time.
[1:58] Speaker 2: Nebraska?
[2:00] Speaker 4: Yeah, I know. I know where that is.
[2:02] Speaker 3: Land at 10 o'clock on Friday night, play the game
[2:05] Speaker 3: at 7, and get the hell out and go home.
[2:07] Speaker 2: I did a game there once. How'd that go? It
[2:10] Speaker 2: went really well.
[2:10] Speaker 4: It was Scott Frost. Okay.
[2:14] Speaker 2: Scott Frost, the former Nebraska. Did he win the Heisman
[2:16] Speaker 2: at Nebraska?
[2:18] Speaker 4: No.
[2:18] Speaker 2: That was Eric Crouch.
[2:20] Speaker 4: Yeah, he won the Heisman at Nebraska. But Frost was great.
[2:23] Speaker 4: Frost was a safety. He was a safety at Stanford.
[2:28] Speaker 1: And.
[2:29] Speaker 4: Was unhappy there. His older brother went to Stanford. He
[2:33] Speaker 4: is from Nebraska, a family of Huskers. And while he's
[2:36] Speaker 4: at Stanford and they're going like 500 back in the day,
[2:41] Speaker 4: they were winning at Nebraska championships under Tom Osborne and
[2:44] Speaker 4: all that. And he just did not like the vibe
[2:47] Speaker 4: at Stanford. And he said one night after spring football,
[2:50] Speaker 4: he heard a hustle and bustle in the hallway. And
[2:54] Speaker 4: it was after like a spring game where he had
[2:56] Speaker 4: played well. And he said, finally, you know, there's something
[2:59] Speaker 4: going on and went outside and he saw a bunch
[3:02] Speaker 4: of Indian kids or something playing human chess.
[3:05] Speaker 2: What?
[3:05] Speaker 4: He said, that's it. That's the last straw. And he
[3:08] Speaker 4: transferred back to Nebraska and had a great career as
[3:12] Speaker 4: the quarterback, though he was embroiled in the part of
[3:16] Speaker 4: the Lawrence Phillips controversy. Nothing that he did wrong, but
[3:19] Speaker 4: I believe that was his girlfriend. that Lawrence Phillips assaulted. Wow.
[3:23] Speaker 4: And then was able to play again.
[3:25] Speaker 2: Sheesh.
[3:25] Speaker 4: If you remember that whole thing. So yeah, Scott Frost,
[3:28] Speaker 4: he was the coach the last time I was at Nebraska.
[3:32] Speaker 2: Gotcha.
[3:32] Speaker 4: Now it's Matt Rule.
[3:34] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[3:34] Speaker 4: But it is a remarkable thing to watch that city transform.
[3:39] Speaker 4: I got there on like a Thursday night and watched
[3:42] Speaker 4: it transform through the game day and how many people
[3:46] Speaker 4: showed up. And that's the only time in my life
[3:48] Speaker 4: I went to a yoga class locally, just found a
[3:52] Speaker 4: morning yoga class on Saturday, and there were five or
[3:55] Speaker 4: six women in the class that all had T-shirts on
[3:57] Speaker 4: that said game day, which was shocking. You usually don't
[4:02] Speaker 4: get a real ardent football following at yoga, but it
[4:05] Speaker 4: was a fun experience and something I'll never forget. I
[4:09] Speaker 4: hope to get back there someday. But usually my games
[4:12] Speaker 4: are less impactful.
[4:13] Speaker 2: Yeah, we haven't.
[4:14] Speaker 3: I haven't been there since 1998, which I think was
[4:17] Speaker 3: the first year without Tom Osborne, if I remember correctly.
[4:21] Speaker 2: And first of all, Solich. Yeah, Solich.
[4:24] Speaker 3: I feel like an idiot confusing Eric Crouch for Scott Frost,
[4:27] Speaker 3: but you know.
[4:28] Speaker 4: Stupid idiot.
[4:28] Speaker 2: Whatever, it won't be though. Won't be the last time.
[4:31] Speaker 2: And we got destroyed.
[4:31] Speaker 4: They also had Tommy Frazier. Yes.
[4:34] Speaker 2: How many tackles could one man break? Remember that? The
[4:36] Speaker 2: Orange Bowl? Florida, yeah. Yeah. We got destroyed.
[4:41] Speaker 3: It was Jim Lambright was the head coach and Dick Baird,
[4:44] Speaker 3: our buddy Dick Baird, that guy right there.
[4:46] Speaker 4: Stupid.
[4:47] Speaker 3: Was coaching linebackers and we got hammered. And here we
[4:50] Speaker 3: are now almost 30 years later. And I hope that
[4:52] Speaker 3: Jed fish can walk out of there with a win,
[4:54] Speaker 3: but he's got to figure out who's playing quarterback. I mean,
[4:56] Speaker 3: you tell me, man, Elijah Brown goes to Purdue and
[4:59] Speaker 3: I know it's Purdue, but they look pretty good on offense.
[5:01] Speaker 3: Put up 38 through for three. I told you this
[5:04] Speaker 3: last week.
[5:05] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[5:06] Speaker 4: Should play with the kid that gets the most inspiration
[5:09] Speaker 4: for the offense.
[5:09] Speaker 2: They haven't announced it yet. They haven't said anything.
[5:12] Speaker 4: Why would they? There's no reason to do that because
[5:15] Speaker 4: there's a, a, the element of surprise involved and you
[5:19] Speaker 4: want Nebraska to have to prepare for both guys and
[5:22] Speaker 4: watch the tape on both guys incessantly. But I'd like
[5:25] Speaker 4: to talk more about Nebraska in the nineties. And then
[5:27] Speaker 4: we can get back to your stupid quarterback situation. Okay.
[5:31] Speaker 2: Go ahead.
[5:34] Speaker 4: You know, one of the worst things that ever happened
[5:37] Speaker 4: in the history of the sport of football in our lifetimes,
[5:42] Speaker 4: other than people dying and stuff is the fact that
[5:46] Speaker 4: that Nebraska fired Frank Solich.
[5:49] Speaker 2: Okay.
[5:50] Speaker 4: And maybe he was a drunk or something, but they
[5:53] Speaker 4: could have still hired somebody else that could have kept
[5:56] Speaker 4: that option going. When they hired Bill Callahan and cut
[6:00] Speaker 4: the head off of the most beautiful triple option in
[6:03] Speaker 4: the history of the world, they hurt college football badly.
[6:08] Speaker 4: And it was a time where the running quarterback or
[6:11] Speaker 4: any kind of quarterback that ran or the option was
[6:14] Speaker 4: very much frowned upon. in the NFL, and they lost
[6:17] Speaker 4: one recruit in particular, a guy named Tommy Zbikowski, who
[6:22] Speaker 4: we all remember played safety in the NFL and for
[6:25] Speaker 4: Notre Dame and was a prominent boxer and all of that. Well,
[6:29] Speaker 4: he was the best option quarterback in the country, and
[6:31] Speaker 4: he was committed to Nebraska. And they convinced him not
[6:35] Speaker 4: to go there because there's no future in the option
[6:37] Speaker 4: as a quarterback. So he went to Notre Dame, and
[6:41] Speaker 4: his career went from there, and that prompted Nebraska to say,
[6:44] Speaker 4: that's it. We have to evolve with the rest of football.
[6:48] Speaker 4: And I don't think they've had a great year since
[6:52] Speaker 4: that has happened. I think Pelini had them once in
[6:54] Speaker 4: the Big Ten championship game. I did that game. And
[6:58] Speaker 4: Matt Rule is battling and scuffling, but they're still not
[7:02] Speaker 4: over the hump. And it's a crazy thing to sort
[7:06] Speaker 4: of look back upon because I remember, I'm sure you
[7:09] Speaker 4: do too, the moment where Nebraska said, okay, we're not
[7:12] Speaker 4: doing this anymore. We're hiring this West Coast offense team.
[7:15] Speaker 4: dead piece of beef jerky coach named Bill Callahan. And
[7:22] Speaker 4: the whole thing collapsed and no one, not Mike Riley,
[7:27] Speaker 4: who we all love, not Scott Frost, who was great
[7:31] Speaker 4: when he was at UCF the first time around, not
[7:35] Speaker 4: even Matt rule, who I think is an excellent coach.
[7:38] Speaker 4: Nobody has been able to salvage what they were.
[7:43] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[7:44] Speaker 4: And it's because once you kill the option, once you
[7:47] Speaker 4: stop running it all year long, once you stop having
[7:51] Speaker 4: that as your culture, like we see with the academies,
[7:54] Speaker 4: you can't get it back. The old don't rub off
[7:58] Speaker 4: on the young. They just cut the tree off.
[8:00] Speaker 2: Right.
[8:01] Speaker 4: And it's one of the great travesties in the history
[8:03] Speaker 4: of football. So when you Washington types are watching that game,
[8:07] Speaker 4: you better thank your lucky stars.
[8:10] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[8:11] Speaker 4: And you're Northwestern God above that you don't have to
[8:15] Speaker 4: face that triple option or the real black shirts.
[8:17] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[8:18] Speaker 3: Well, they haven't had, they've only had three 10 when
[8:21] Speaker 3: Frank Solich went 58 and 19 and they fired him.
[8:24] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[8:25] Speaker 3: And he was 33 and 15 in the big 12.
[8:28] Speaker 3: I think it was right back in the day.
[8:29] Speaker 2: Yeah. Big 12.
[8:31] Speaker 3: And they've only had three 10-win seasons since. But now
[8:34] Speaker 3: they've got this Calandria kid, the transfer from UNLV.
[8:39] Speaker 2: He was at Virginia.
[8:40] Speaker 3: He's got like 2,000 total yards, 20 touchdowns, running around.
[8:45] Speaker 3: I hate playing running quarterbacks, and this guy can run.
[8:48] Speaker 4: He can run around to create. He's looking to throw, though.
[8:51] Speaker 4: He will run, and he can, but he's looking to throw.
[8:55] Speaker 4: And he's got a little Johnny Manziel in him, not
[8:58] Speaker 4: the a-hole part. But he's a fun player to watch
[9:02] Speaker 4: and move all around the field. And he kind of
[9:04] Speaker 4: has a little bit of four-wheel drive in him, backing up,
[9:07] Speaker 4: going forward, avoiding people, and then getting rid of the
[9:10] Speaker 4: ball down the field. And that part of it is dangerous.
[9:14] Speaker 4: He can also get himself in trouble in that way
[9:16] Speaker 4: as well, and I've seen it go bad for him.
[9:19] Speaker 4: But he's a good quarterback. He's better than anybody Washington has,
[9:23] Speaker 4: let's put it like that.
[9:24] Speaker 3: That's a low bar there, pal.
[9:26] Speaker 4: Yeah, well, he's a lot to contain.
[9:28] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[9:28] Speaker 3: I mean, you said that like you were trying to
[9:30] Speaker 3: be that, you know, make an insult there and get
[9:32] Speaker 3: under my skin.
[9:34] Speaker 2: No. I'm like, duh.
[9:35] Speaker 4: I think everybody understands that that's the truth. Good Lord, man.
[9:38] Speaker 4: But I think it's going to be tough to contain him.
[9:41] Speaker 4: They should beat you guys.
[9:42] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[9:43] Speaker 2: Hey, thanks again. How about what's going on down in Eugene, man?
[9:49] Speaker 2: Holy moly.
[9:51] Speaker 3: Dante Moore done for the year. You spend a gajillion
[9:53] Speaker 3: dollars on your roster. You go from number two in
[9:56] Speaker 3: the country to out of the poll.
[9:58] Speaker 2: Suck it, Ducks. How about that?
[10:01] Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, it's one thing to pay a football
[10:03] Speaker 4: player a whole bunch of money. It's another thing to
[10:06] Speaker 4: play a football player a whole bunch of money and
[10:08] Speaker 4: the season goes absolutely sideways. But you understand that as well,
[10:12] Speaker 4: don't you? Because that's what happened with your guy's quarterback.
[10:15] Speaker 2: Good Lord.
[10:15] Speaker 4: This time.
[10:16] Speaker 2: What is going on here?
[10:17] Speaker 4: Am I wrong to say?
[10:19] Speaker 2: Why all just the shots? Why?
[10:21] Speaker 4: It's not a shot.
[10:22] Speaker 2: Why?
[10:23] Speaker 4: I'm just being honest. Okay. You're ugly. I mean, it
[10:28] Speaker 4: sucks to pay a guy $ 20 million and he's not
[10:30] Speaker 4: going to play, you know?
[10:31] Speaker 2: Or whatever it is.
[10:32] Speaker 4: $ 5 million, $ 10 million. I don't know.
[10:34] Speaker 2: $ 20, $ 30, whatever.
[10:36] Speaker 4: I don't know. But it sucks. You're paying that guy
[10:39] Speaker 4: to sit there and wear a hoodie and have his
[10:41] Speaker 4: hair all on his face. That feels bad. It feels terrible.
[10:45] Speaker 4: And then you pay the backup and he goes out
[10:46] Speaker 4: there and throws 20 picks. And it's like, what are
[10:48] Speaker 4: we doing?
[10:50] Speaker 2: He's terrible.
[10:51] Speaker 4: Yeah, I think the attrition of the coordinators, something we
[10:55] Speaker 4: talked about after the Oklahoma State game, might have caught
[10:57] Speaker 4: up a little bit to Oregon having to replace Dillingham
[11:02] Speaker 4: and then another really good hire in Stein. And maybe
[11:06] Speaker 4: they don't have enough age on their roster, coaching-wise.
[11:10] Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
[11:11] Speaker 4: That's been some of the criticism. Somebody showed me a
[11:13] Speaker 4: stat where every 10 years, Oregon has a really down year,
[11:17] Speaker 4: like Mark Helfrich or Willie Taggart or somebody like that.
[11:21] Speaker 4: And I don't think it's the end of Dan Lanning.
[11:23] Speaker 4: I think there's a lot of disappointment. I think there
[11:26] Speaker 4: is some unrest just because Oregon is Oregon because of
[11:30] Speaker 4: one guy. And that's the Nike situation and Phil Knight.
[11:34] Speaker 4: And I'm sure he has it in place to where
[11:37] Speaker 4: even after he's gone, the spigot doesn't stop spraying money
[11:41] Speaker 4: all over them.
[11:42] Speaker 2: No question.
[11:44] Speaker 4: But at the same time, there is a sense of
[11:46] Speaker 4: urgency to win while he's alive. And he's pretty old.
[11:52] Speaker 4: So I understand that part of it. But I don't
[11:54] Speaker 4: think starting over at Oregon may be a little bit
[11:57] Speaker 4: of a tweak to the coordinator situation, which is something
[12:00] Speaker 4: they're already doing. But I don't think starting over is
[12:03] Speaker 4: the answer. But I think they better buckle up and
[12:07] Speaker 4: be happy to play in the Alamo Bowl or something
[12:09] Speaker 4: like that.
[12:10] Speaker 2: Well, you know who they have this weekend in Eugene?
[12:13] Speaker 2: Chip Kelly. Northwestern.
[12:14] Speaker 4: Northwestern and my guy Aiden Childs.
[12:17] Speaker 2: How about that?
[12:18] Speaker 4: Who's having a great comeback year. Former Oregon State Dynamo
[12:23] Speaker 4: crapped out at Michigan State with Jonathan Smith. And now
[12:26] Speaker 4: he's with Jerry Neuheisel and everybody's hero, Chip Kelly. And
[12:33] Speaker 4: whoever the head coach is, nobody even knows the head coach.
[12:35] Speaker 4: It's just Jerry and Jim Kelly. He's some white guy.
[12:38] Speaker 4: Why do you say Jerry Neuheisel like that, though? Jerry Neuheisel.
[12:43] Speaker 2: Because he's kind of a dork. Is he?
[12:45] Speaker 4: Well, yeah. Like a dork in that, like a bad
[12:48] Speaker 4: guy in an 80s movie type of dork.
[12:50] Speaker 2: His dad's on the show tomorrow. Yeah, tell him I
[12:52] Speaker 2: said hi.
[12:53] Speaker 4: Rick.
[12:54] Speaker 2: Yeah, I know who his dad is. Are you tight
[12:55] Speaker 2: with Rick?
[12:57] Speaker 4: We're not tight, but we get along quite well. He'll
[13:00] Speaker 4: come on the show if I ask him.
[13:02] Speaker 2: To, Softie. Not after I tell him you called his
[13:04] Speaker 2: son a dork.
[13:05] Speaker 4: Well, I think Rick probably knows that. Rick's a pretty
[13:07] Speaker 4: big dork, too, with his pear body. Tell Rick to
[13:11] Speaker 4: play us a song on the guitar. I gave my
[13:16] Speaker 4: love a cherry that had no stone. I gave my
[13:28] Speaker 4: love a chicken that had no bone.
[13:36] Speaker 3: Hey, how about your guy Lincoln down there in L.A.?
[13:42] Speaker 3: I'm the best for USC, and USC is the.
[13:46] Speaker 2: Best for me. Did you see that quote?
[13:49] Speaker 4: You're good enough, you're smart enough, and gosh darn it.
[13:53] Speaker 2: People like me. Stuart Smalley. Yeah.
[13:55] Speaker 4: Daily affirmation. You know, that's the more, that's the most
[13:59] Speaker 4: human I've seen him sound in years. Really?
[14:01] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[14:02] Speaker 4: I mean, that was, and then that's not even that human. Right.
[14:05] Speaker 4: So I don't understand why it's a week to week
[14:09] Speaker 4: situation at USC. I think this team basically showed their
[14:13] Speaker 4: true colors under this head coach when they lost to Tulane.
[14:16] Speaker 4: It is very first year and then turn things around
[14:20] Speaker 4: the next year with Caleb Williams being the number one
[14:22] Speaker 4: team in the country. and being nowhere near as good
[14:26] Speaker 4: as they were when they had a more Clay Helton-esque roster.
[14:30] Speaker 4: And it's not been any good since then. And you
[14:33] Speaker 4: could say, well, USC's okay, but that's not good enough.
[14:36] Speaker 4: The amount of money they've invested in this coach, what
[14:39] Speaker 4: they've given to this coach, they've hired him a GM
[14:42] Speaker 4: to introduce him to the high school coaches in town
[14:44] Speaker 4: because they didn't think that was important.
[14:45] Speaker 2: That is amazing. That is unbelievable.
[14:48] Speaker 4: Yeah, they had to hire a guy for a million
[14:50] Speaker 4: dollars to take him down to modern day and send
[14:53] Speaker 4: a margarita. And Carson, I'm serious.
[14:55] Speaker 2: Come on.
[14:56] Speaker 4: Yeah. I mean, they had to fire Grinch.
[14:59] Speaker 2: I'm not lying.
[15:00] Speaker 4: They had to fire Grinch and hire, uh, then, uh,
[15:04] Speaker 4: D and Lynn steal him from UCLA that he didn't
[15:07] Speaker 4: want to coordinate defense there anymore. So now it's Gary Patterson.
[15:11] Speaker 4: They've hired some of his friends. They fired some of
[15:14] Speaker 4: his friends. They've hired more of his friends. It's never ending.
[15:18] Speaker 4: And it's all down to one common denominator. The team
[15:22] Speaker 4: doesn't run the ball. Well, The team is terrible on
[15:25] Speaker 4: the road. They get punched in the mouth when they travel,
[15:28] Speaker 4: and it's clear how to beat them on the road.
[15:31] Speaker 4: The quarterback has not developed like he's supposed to under
[15:34] Speaker 4: a quarterback guru like Lincoln Riley, and it's not going
[15:39] Speaker 4: to be any different. It's not going to change because
[15:42] Speaker 4: he's shown you over and over year after year, regardless
[15:45] Speaker 4: of what he says, that this is who he is now.
[15:48] Speaker 4: Is there a buyout in place? Is somebody going to
[15:50] Speaker 4: be able to do something? I doubt it. The silver lining,
[15:53] Speaker 4: if you're a USC fan is, or you care about
[15:55] Speaker 4: Lincoln Riley, if you beat Ohio State with their backup quarterback,
[16:01] Speaker 4: you're playing at home where you play pretty well. If
[16:03] Speaker 4: you beat Indiana in Indiana with that defense, I don't know.
[16:10] Speaker 4: after Wisconsin just did what they did to you, and
[16:13] Speaker 4: then you'd have to beat UCLA, who's pretty darn good. Yeah. Like,
[16:16] Speaker 4: if you beat all those teams in Maryland, then you're
[16:18] Speaker 4: going to be in the college football playoff.
[16:20] Speaker 2: That's a lot of ifs, pal.
[16:21] Speaker 1: Right?
[16:22] Speaker 2: Well, I mean, that's what they have ahead of them. Yeah.
[16:24] Speaker 4: But, I mean, I don't think it's going to happen.
[16:27] Speaker 4: I think I've been telling you the same thing that
[16:29] Speaker 4: we've been looking at for years.
[16:30] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[16:31] Speaker 4: And it seems like it happens.
[16:33] Speaker 2: What are you doing, by the way? Did you just
[16:34] Speaker 2: fall over?
[16:35] Speaker 4: No, I just got up off a very squeaky chair. Ha, ha, ha.
[16:41] Speaker 2: I thought you fell off your chair and hit the deck.
[16:44] Speaker 1: No.
[16:44] Speaker 2: All right.
[16:46] Speaker 4: I'm done answering the question. I don't have any questions.
[16:49] Speaker 2: How about UCLA?
[16:50] Speaker 4: No, I'm done.
[16:50] Speaker 3: UCLA is the hot story, though, man. I mean, Chesney's
[16:53] Speaker 3: kind of making a mockery of this guy, isn't he,
[16:55] Speaker 3: a little bit?
[16:55] Speaker 4: Well, yeah, the framing in town. And it's really interesting, too,
[16:59] Speaker 4: like the media part of it. Because Lincoln Riley doesn't
[17:01] Speaker 4: let anybody talk to anybody. He's very churlish about that.
[17:06] Speaker 4: And the only time that people get to talk to
[17:08] Speaker 4: players is like the seven minutes he sits there after
[17:10] Speaker 4: the game with two guys flanking him. And the media
[17:13] Speaker 4: is very frustrated in town. They don't get to tell
[17:15] Speaker 4: any stories about USC, even though there's good stories. And
[17:19] Speaker 4: most of the time, you really just want to celebrate
[17:21] Speaker 4: these guys. And UCLA, conversely, I mean, they're not even
[17:24] Speaker 4: on our station. But if we call them and say, hey,
[17:27] Speaker 4: we want to talk to that Dieffenbach guy, they say,
[17:29] Speaker 4: what time? What time do you want him? We say, hey,
[17:32] Speaker 4: do you have a linebacker or something that's a good talker? Yeah,
[17:35] Speaker 4: what time? We want Chesney. What time you want him?
[17:39] Speaker 4: Coach would love to come on. I mean, they're giving
[17:41] Speaker 4: their players media training. It's like the opposite of what's
[17:45] Speaker 4: going on at USC, and it makes USC look even worse. Yeah,
[17:48] Speaker 4: they hit a little bit of a scheduling lottery, so
[17:51] Speaker 4: to speak. Joel Klatt used that term. UCLA has this year.
[17:56] Speaker 4: But they've also, I mean, I don't think any of us,
[17:59] Speaker 4: regardless of what their schedule is, looking at it before
[18:01] Speaker 4: the season started, none of us, saw what UCLA was
[18:05] Speaker 4: going to do, saw that coming. That maybe that they'd
[18:09] Speaker 4: be improved under Chesney, but undefeated Halloween weekend with Nevada
[18:14] Speaker 4: coming into town, going to be undefeated after Halloween in November,
[18:19] Speaker 4: none of us saw that coming. And it's been inspirational
[18:23] Speaker 4: to watch it happen and watch them try to wake
[18:25] Speaker 4: up that sleeping giant. And with that going on across town, yes,
[18:29] Speaker 4: it makes Lincoln-Riley look even worse.
[18:31] Speaker 3: What do you got planned for Saturday night? Taking the
[18:33] Speaker 3: kids out trick-or-treating? No, I got another national game.
[18:37] Speaker 4: I have Ohio State-USC on national radio, so I'm going
[18:40] Speaker 4: to go back over there and call that game.
[18:41] Speaker 2: Does Dana take them out, the kids?
[18:44] Speaker 4: Yeah, they just do their own thing. The neighborhood is
[18:46] Speaker 4: kind of like a real S-show on... halloween you know
[18:50] Speaker 4: there's a lot of people that come into the neighborhood
[18:52] Speaker 4: and do all kinds of stuff and everybody's got like
[18:54] Speaker 4: a giant blown up grim reaper some stupid ass skeleton
[18:57] Speaker 4: that looks like a giant and i just i despise
[19:00] Speaker 4: halloween i'm glad i'm doing a game.
[19:02] Speaker 3: That is the worst i think i don't know maybe
[19:04] Speaker 3: i'm in no position to talk about it because i
[19:06] Speaker 3: don't have any kids but no you don't i got
[19:08] Speaker 3: a fundamental problem with people that like get in the
[19:10] Speaker 3: car and drive like 20 neighborhoods over just to go
[19:13] Speaker 3: trick or treat.
[19:14] Speaker 4: Well some neighborhoods are more desirable for that and i
[19:17] Speaker 4: understand but and uh Yeah, but you're right. I mean,
[19:20] Speaker 4: it's a long-standing debate in the city of Los Angeles.
[19:24] Speaker 4: Is it cool to go to a different neighborhood and trick-or-treat? No.
[19:27] Speaker 4: Because that neighborhood is bougier than yours and they give
[19:29] Speaker 4: out whole Snickers bars.
[19:30] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[19:31] Speaker 2: No, it's not. It's not acceptable. Stay in your own neighborhood. No!
[19:35] Speaker 2: Do your own trick-or-treating.
[19:37] Speaker 4: Do you have candy and distribute it to the young fans,
[19:39] Speaker 4: the young fans of KJR?
[19:41] Speaker 2: No, we turn our lights off and act like we're
[19:43] Speaker 2: not home. I can see that. I won't even be here.
[19:48] Speaker 2: I'll be in Lincoln.
[19:49] Speaker 3: Like I said, apparently Huskies have no chance of winning,
[19:53] Speaker 3: according to you.
[19:53] Speaker 2: I didn't say that. You absolutely did say that.
[19:56] Speaker 4: I don't think you're going to win.
[19:58] Speaker 2: See? Alright, we gotta run. Good stuff.
[20:00] Speaker 3: I don't like your head coach doesn't inspire me. We'll
[20:03] Speaker 3: see what happens on Saturday. He might surprise you.
[20:05] Speaker 4: I called Steve Spurrier before the game. He said we
[20:07] Speaker 4: were going to win.
[20:11] Speaker 2: We got to go, man.
[20:12] Speaker 4: Bill Belichick said we win.
[20:19] Speaker 2: Have fun Saturday.
[20:21] Speaker 4: Thanks, Softie. Happy Halloween to all you and your wonderful listeners.
[20:24] Speaker 2: See you, buddy.
[20:25] Speaker 3: Petros Papadakis, Kevin Harlan joins at five. Coming up before
