[0:01] Speaker 1: As part of our nonstop coverage of the NFL. They
[0:04] Speaker 1: are NFL champions. The Seattle Seahawks have won Super Bowl XLVIII.
[0:09] Speaker 1: This is Softee's weekly visit with Kevin Harlan. He was
[0:13] Speaker 1: like a pinball, banging off bodies. A 23-yard catch and run.
[0:17] Speaker 1: Brought to you by the Emerald Queen Casino.
[0:19] Speaker 2: Always entertaining.
[0:21] Speaker 1: The ball free.
[0:22] Speaker 2: Picked up by Nolosu. Seattle has scored on another turnover.
[0:26] Speaker 1: Come down to the beautiful EQC Sportsbook to bet, watch,
[0:29] Speaker 1: and win all season long. And the Seattle Seahawks have
[0:33] Speaker 1: won Super Bowl 60 in pretty dominating fashion. On Sports
[0:38] Speaker 1: Radio 93.3, KJR FM.
[0:42] Speaker 3: Well, you know, like the leaves falling off the trees,
[0:45] Speaker 3: like the sunset happening earlier as the days go by,
[0:49] Speaker 3: there's always signs, there's always markers that football season is
[0:53] Speaker 3: here and on the way. And the first conversation that
[0:57] Speaker 3: we get to have every single fall Well, our friend
[1:00] Speaker 3: Kevin Harlan is one of them for me.
[1:02] Speaker 2: It is absolutely my honor, my pleasure.
[1:05] Speaker 3: Jackson, I was able to have breakfast with Kevin this morning,
[1:08] Speaker 3: and you should have seen the guy. He was like
[1:10] Speaker 3: a rock star. I mean, it was like one of
[1:13] Speaker 3: the Beatles staying at the hotel. People coming by for
[1:16] Speaker 3: photos and autographs and well-wishers. Unbelievable how much pull and
[1:21] Speaker 3: how big a deal this guy really is, and we've
[1:23] Speaker 3: got him every single Wednesday at 5 o'clock.
[1:26] Speaker 2: Once again, courtesy of our friends at the Emerald Queen Casino.
[1:29] Speaker 2: How are you, man?
[1:32] Speaker 1: When I hear your voice, I think of a new
[1:34] Speaker 1: season and all the fun conversations we'll have here for
[1:37] Speaker 1: the next handful of months. And what better place to
[1:40] Speaker 1: begin than in the home of the Super Bowl champion
[1:44] Speaker 1: Seattle Seahawks. It's exciting to be here. Love seeing you
[1:47] Speaker 1: this morning. Can't wait to get tonight going.
[1:50] Speaker 3: Yeah, well, let's start right there. Let's talk about this
[1:53] Speaker 3: football team because... Outside of the names like Elway, Brady,
[1:57] Speaker 3: and Mahomes, we don't see many quarterbacks. We don't see
[2:00] Speaker 3: many football teams go back-to-back. I mean, this might be
[2:03] Speaker 3: the hardest thing to do, Kevin, right, in professional sports,
[2:06] Speaker 3: and that's win consecutive Lombardis in the NFL. Why or
[2:10] Speaker 3: why not will this Seahawks football team, you think, be
[2:13] Speaker 3: able to pull that off?
[2:15] Speaker 1: Well, they've got new guys. We know that. I think
[2:19] Speaker 1: Mike has done a great job in framing this season.
[2:23] Speaker 1: in terms of what it could be and not what
[2:26] Speaker 1: has been. You never want to let go of the
[2:30] Speaker 1: components that made you what you were last year. You're
[2:35] Speaker 1: always striving to evolve and improve and ascend. And that's
[2:39] Speaker 1: the way John is wired when he builds the team
[2:41] Speaker 1: and the way Mike is wired when he constructs his
[2:45] Speaker 1: camp in his offseason and now going into week one
[2:49] Speaker 1: against the team he faced, you know, not that long
[2:51] Speaker 1: ago in the Super Bowl. So... You've got energetic, thought-provoking
[2:57] Speaker 1: minds that lead the way, and you've got your core,
[3:04] Speaker 1: and the core, as we've seen, has been tied up
[3:08] Speaker 1: financially now with new contracts, record-setting, historically high contracts that
[3:14] Speaker 1: sends a great message to the rest of the team
[3:18] Speaker 1: that this is just the beginning of of what they
[3:22] Speaker 1: conceive as a long run. And I love that philosophy.
[3:27] Speaker 1: I love the fact they've paid them. They deserve the money.
[3:31] Speaker 1: And my guess is that people are sleeping on this team.
[3:35] Speaker 1: Everyone's talking Rams. Some people in the AFC are talking Houston.
[3:42] Speaker 1: Buffalo clearly is a team that everybody's got in the
[3:44] Speaker 1: tip of their tongue. My view is on this team
[3:48] Speaker 1: as a defending champion, Yes, you've got the pressure and
[3:51] Speaker 1: all the things that you've got to circumvent to get
[3:54] Speaker 1: back to where you were. Can you find the same motivation?
[3:59] Speaker 1: Can you find the same things that prodded you last
[4:02] Speaker 1: year that can do the same, if not more, this year?
[4:06] Speaker 1: You know, that's the great thing about this sport is
[4:08] Speaker 1: that you're always evolving, and that's what the Seahawks have
[4:11] Speaker 1: been at the forefront of.
[4:13] Speaker 3: Well, and if they're going to do it, you know, look,
[4:15] Speaker 3: I mean, they'll either have to replicate what they did
[4:18] Speaker 3: a year ago with the league's number one defense, number
[4:20] Speaker 3: three scoring offense, or, as you know, have a dynamite
[4:24] Speaker 3: year from their quarterback. And I'm just, you know, Kevin,
[4:26] Speaker 3: I'm curious what your thoughts are on Sam Darnold. The numbers,
[4:30] Speaker 3: the stats don't blow up a box score maybe the
[4:33] Speaker 3: way other quarterbacks.
[4:34] Speaker 2: Do, but he's a freaking winner. I mean, the guy's 31-7.
[4:38] Speaker 2: If you include the.
[4:39] Speaker 3: Playoffs, in his last 38 games, there's only four quarterbacks
[4:43] Speaker 3: on the NFL Top 100 that are ranked higher than him,
[4:46] Speaker 3: and that's Allen, Stafford, May, and Patrick Mahomes. So what
[4:50] Speaker 3: is the perception right now, you think, across the league?
[4:53] Speaker 2: What's your perception of Sam Darnold?
[4:56] Speaker 1: Well, the perception is that what they thought coming out
[5:00] Speaker 1: of USC was correct and that it had to be
[5:04] Speaker 1: the right environment for to get him to where he
[5:07] Speaker 1: is now, where he began with the Vikings, won the
[5:10] Speaker 1: 14 games, the 14 wins last year with the Hawks.
[5:15] Speaker 1: He's won that number of games. Only one other quarterback
[5:18] Speaker 1: has done it back-to-back seasons, Brady, and no one's ever
[5:21] Speaker 1: done it with a new team like he did. So
[5:24] Speaker 1: he has trudged his way from a slow beginning to
[5:30] Speaker 1: really having an appreciation of what it takes to be
[5:33] Speaker 1: a champion. He is surrounded by... the right kind of
[5:37] Speaker 1: people around him. They've molded the offense even more to
[5:40] Speaker 1: what he does well. His offensive line is terrific, better
[5:45] Speaker 1: than even last year, I think. And he just has,
[5:50] Speaker 1: and I say better because they're a year into it,
[5:52] Speaker 1: another year together. That is an incomparable thing when you
[5:58] Speaker 1: look at why offensive lines work. It's maybe not one
[6:02] Speaker 1: guy or two guys. They're such a collective team. that
[6:05] Speaker 1: another year with the success they've had, the same five
[6:09] Speaker 1: guys are coming back. That is a luxury few, if any,
[6:13] Speaker 1: teams have in this league except the Hawks. And that's
[6:17] Speaker 1: a defending champion bringing back all five starters. Like, it's
[6:21] Speaker 1: an amazing thing. And the player of the year on offense.
[6:24] Speaker 1: And a quarterback who's won 28 games, you know, for
[6:27] Speaker 1: the last two years. I think it's the turnover thing
[6:31] Speaker 1: that will continue to be the question that people have.
[6:34] Speaker 1: And rightly so. It's there. And something that he knows.
[6:39] Speaker 1: But let me put it to you this way. If
[6:41] Speaker 1: you're not attempting to push the envelope a little bit
[6:45] Speaker 1: and know you're going to have those moments, I don't
[6:48] Speaker 1: know that you want a quarterback who's too safe. You
[6:50] Speaker 1: want a quarterback who's aggressive. And I think they've got
[6:53] Speaker 1: that in this guy.
[6:54] Speaker 3: Well, this NFC West is a juggernaut, man. I mean,
[6:57] Speaker 3: I feel like a lot of people are just throwing
[6:58] Speaker 3: the Niners out and saying they're not going to be
[7:01] Speaker 3: a factor, which I think is crazy.
[7:02] Speaker 2: They won 12 games a year ago.
[7:04] Speaker 3: These three teams, the Hawks and Rams and Niners combined,
[7:07] Speaker 3: won 38 games last season. I know the Niners got
[7:10] Speaker 3: blown apart in Week 17, hammered by the Hawks in
[7:13] Speaker 3: the divisional round, so there might be a gap, obviously.
[7:16] Speaker 3: between the two of them, but the Rams go out
[7:19] Speaker 3: and get Jalen Watson, they get McDuffie, and we thought
[7:22] Speaker 3: that was a lot. Then they go out and get
[7:24] Speaker 3: Miles Garrett, and we thought that was a lot. Then
[7:26] Speaker 3: they go out and get Aaron Donald. I mean, it's unbelievable.
[7:28] Speaker 3: So they're putting this super team together in L.A. I mean,
[7:32] Speaker 3: would you call the Rams the heavy favorite to win
[7:34] Speaker 3: the West? Because Vegas certainly thinks they are.
[7:37] Speaker 1: Well, getting out of this division becomes the number one goal.
[7:40] Speaker 1: I mean, how can you survive what is the most
[7:44] Speaker 1: treacherous division ever? in football closely followed probably by either
[7:49] Speaker 1: the AFC West or the NFC North. I mean, the
[7:52] Speaker 1: division strength in some of these divisions in the league
[7:56] Speaker 1: led by the NFC West is just incredible. And so
[8:00] Speaker 1: navigating your own division becomes, you know, job one. How
[8:04] Speaker 1: do we get out of here? How do we navigate this?
[8:08] Speaker 1: And then whatever else the league throws at us with
[8:10] Speaker 1: the schedule is what we've got to deal with. So
[8:13] Speaker 1: the Rams have made some significant additions, and I would
[8:19] Speaker 1: say that you've got to put them in that conversation.
[8:23] Speaker 1: But to have two teams that are favored in the
[8:26] Speaker 1: conference in the same division that will play each other
[8:29] Speaker 1: twice is just mind-boggling to me. But that's what we got,
[8:35] Speaker 1: and it's not going to go away. So iron sharpens iron.
[8:40] Speaker 1: I see this making all the teams in this division better.
[8:45] Speaker 1: Even the Cardinals, who have got, you know, not much
[8:48] Speaker 1: going for them and clearly are a couple years away,
[8:51] Speaker 1: but have got some playmakers now, and they're high on
[8:54] Speaker 1: their running back. The rookie out of Notre Dame loves.
[8:57] Speaker 1: They've got the best tight end in football. You know,
[9:00] Speaker 1: even they are beginning to make some strides with a
[9:03] Speaker 1: brand-new head coach. So the division remains strong. That's job
[9:07] Speaker 1: one is surviving what you face twice a year and
[9:12] Speaker 1: trying to survive that. And listen, operating the way the
[9:16] Speaker 1: Seahawks are as a defending champion every week, regardless where
[9:21] Speaker 1: they play, who they play, they've got the big bullseye
[9:25] Speaker 1: on their back. And contending with that mentally every week,
[9:28] Speaker 1: getting everybody's best punch, that can take a toll. But
[9:34] Speaker 1: I think this team is mentally strong enough to handle
[9:36] Speaker 1: that but every week they're going to get everybody's best shot.
[9:40] Speaker 3: The expert analysis of kevin harlan provided every wednesday by
[9:44] Speaker 3: our friends at the emerald queen casino uh and you
[9:47] Speaker 3: mentioned the rams and hawks they're playing each other twice
[9:49] Speaker 3: in the last three weeks by the way christmas day
[9:52] Speaker 3: and then week 18 i mean it's going to be
[9:54] Speaker 3: freaking nuts man with these two teams get together but
[9:57] Speaker 3: talk about donald for a second i mean he's not
[9:59] Speaker 3: going to australia he's 35 he hasn't played in two
[10:02] Speaker 3: years um i don't know i mean i thought the
[10:05] Speaker 3: rams were gonna be damn good even before they went
[10:07] Speaker 3: out and got miles garrett even before they went out
[10:10] Speaker 3: and got aaron donald so how much does the donald thing.
[10:13] Speaker 2: Kind of move the needle for you kevin.
[10:17] Speaker 1: I think he's going to be used situationally. When he
[10:22] Speaker 1: was in his prime and playing and winning these Defensive
[10:26] Speaker 1: Player of the Year awards and the All-Pro team and
[10:28] Speaker 1: all the things, the decorated career that he had, you know,
[10:35] Speaker 1: he was an every-down guy. Now I think that changes
[10:39] Speaker 1: a bit. Number one, they've got to reacclimate him to
[10:43] Speaker 1: the league and the punishment and just what it is now.
[10:47] Speaker 1: And he is as great as that position has ever seen,
[10:51] Speaker 1: but he's been gone for a couple years. And things change.
[10:57] Speaker 1: Body changes. Your mind changes. And getting him up to
[11:01] Speaker 1: speed is going to be job one. And I can
[11:04] Speaker 1: see not taking him all the way there. That does
[11:06] Speaker 1: him no good. He may have played ten plays. And
[11:10] Speaker 1: I don't know that it's worth sending him all the
[11:12] Speaker 1: way across the world to play ten plays. they're going
[11:16] Speaker 1: to get a lot out of him. I think it'll
[11:18] Speaker 1: be more substitutional, but I think he'll be a factor,
[11:23] Speaker 1: and they want to keep him fresh. They're dealing with
[11:25] Speaker 1: a 35-year-old guy. But listen, defensive linemen seem to play
[11:30] Speaker 1: multiple years more than a lot of other positions. I'm
[11:35] Speaker 1: not sure what it is, but we've got a lot
[11:37] Speaker 1: of guys in this league, Garrett being one of them,
[11:40] Speaker 1: that have had long careers, and I think Donald– has
[11:44] Speaker 1: good years, good plays, good games left in him. He
[11:48] Speaker 1: may not be what he once was, but every once
[11:50] Speaker 1: in a while he's going to be as good as
[11:52] Speaker 1: he used to be, and that's going to be fun
[11:54] Speaker 1: to watch. Plus, mentally, for the team to bring in
[11:59] Speaker 1: a legend like that does nothing but fortify your effort
[12:03] Speaker 1: and reveal even more the goal of what you've got
[12:06] Speaker 1: set for this season. You get Garrett, you get McDuffie
[12:10] Speaker 1: in the deal with the Chiefs, and then you go
[12:12] Speaker 1: out and maybe the greatest interior defensive lineman this league
[12:16] Speaker 1: has ever seen, and here he is now back with us,
[12:20] Speaker 1: a couple years removed, still in great physical shape, mentally
[12:23] Speaker 1: ready to go, and playing beside Garrett. It's amazing. So
[12:27] Speaker 1: the mental aspect of him coming back, I think, can
[12:32] Speaker 1: never be ignored.
[12:33] Speaker 2: Yeah, Kevin Harlan's with us.
[12:35] Speaker 3: And, Kevin, there's obviously going to be a lot of
[12:37] Speaker 3: potential bounce-back stories this year. No bigger than in Kansas City.
[12:41] Speaker 3: I mean, you've got the Broncos and Chiefs. We'll have
[12:43] Speaker 3: the game for you on KJR on Monday night from
[12:46] Speaker 3: Arrowhead Stadium.
[12:48] Speaker 2: I don't know, man.
[12:49] Speaker 3: What are we looking at? I mean, Mahomes coming off
[12:51] Speaker 3: the injury. Kelsey's obviously getting long in the tooth. Do
[12:55] Speaker 3: the Chiefs have one more magical run in them to
[12:58] Speaker 3: a championship, or are the glory days for Reed and
[13:02] Speaker 3: Mahomes and Kelsey behind them?
[13:06] Speaker 1: Well, I'm not sure what Kelsey is going to bring,
[13:09] Speaker 1: but I think getting the Super Bowl MVP in the
[13:12] Speaker 1: backfield is going to be huge. I think they're going
[13:15] Speaker 1: to put Patrick under center more. They want to run
[13:18] Speaker 1: the ball. They want to protect his knee. And we
[13:21] Speaker 1: all know, and just history would tell you, that the
[13:24] Speaker 1: first year back after a major knee injury is never
[13:28] Speaker 1: quite as good as you hope, maybe better than it
[13:32] Speaker 1: probably has been in the past. But I don't know
[13:35] Speaker 1: that he'll be necessarily himself. You know, one of the
[13:39] Speaker 1: great things, tools he had was he ran the ball well.
[13:43] Speaker 1: He was athletic and kind of like Gumby out there, right?
[13:47] Speaker 1: You could bend him. He could move in ways that would,
[13:50] Speaker 1: you know, alter tackle attempts and stuff. He just seemed
[13:54] Speaker 1: to really have that bullet in his holster. And I
[14:00] Speaker 1: think that is going to really be curtailed. And he's
[14:05] Speaker 1: not going to have that aspect of his game in
[14:09] Speaker 1: full bloom this year. It may happen later in the season,
[14:13] Speaker 1: but to begin with, no. And they begin against Denver.
[14:15] Speaker 1: I think Denver is the team to beat in the
[14:17] Speaker 1: AFC myself. I think they're phenomenal. They're on par with
[14:22] Speaker 1: the Rams. and with the Seahawks, I think Denver is
[14:25] Speaker 1: a phenomenal team. Phenomenal.
[14:27] Speaker 3: Why more so than Houston or maybe Buffalo, you think?
[14:31] Speaker 1: I think the quarterback is in his third year. I
[14:33] Speaker 1: think they're better at running back. They've got Waddle in
[14:35] Speaker 1: a deal with Miami. Their defense has been number one
[14:40] Speaker 1: the last two years in sacks. They're only stronger this year.
[14:45] Speaker 1: Their offensive line, they've spent a lot of money on
[14:47] Speaker 1: their offensive line. It's as good as Seattle's offensive line.
[14:51] Speaker 1: I just think they are a Super Bowl team in waiting.
[14:55] Speaker 1: But they've got to get out of the division. That
[14:57] Speaker 1: means they've got to beat the Chiefs, and they've got
[14:59] Speaker 1: to get by the Chargers. And those are two tough opponents.
[15:02] Speaker 1: I don't think it's as difficult a division as the West,
[15:06] Speaker 1: the NFC West, but I think it's just a hair underneath,
[15:10] Speaker 1: but it will be treacherous. But I think the Broncos
[15:13] Speaker 1: are the team in the AFC, and I'm not going
[15:15] Speaker 1: to deviate my feeling that the Seahawks are the team
[15:18] Speaker 1: in the NFC again. Hmm.
[15:20] Speaker 3: Well, a Seahawks-Denver rematch would be tasty, Super Bowl XLVIII.
[15:24] Speaker 3: We all want to know what happened that day when
[15:26] Speaker 3: the Broncos got slaughtered. So that was the matchup a
[15:29] Speaker 3: lot of people thought we'd see until Bo Nix went
[15:31] Speaker 3: down with the injury a year ago. But Kevin Harlan's
[15:33] Speaker 3: with us. He's got national radio tonight for Seahawks in
[15:36] Speaker 3: New England coming up across the street in a matter
[15:39] Speaker 3: of minutes. And, Kevin, I don't do this very often,
[15:41] Speaker 3: but our server at Breakfast Peg says, wants me to
[15:45] Speaker 3: ask you about the Vikings. Big Vikings fan. You got
[15:48] Speaker 3: Kyler Murray as the QB1. You got Carson Wentz backing
[15:53] Speaker 3: him up, and JJ's the number three.
[15:55] Speaker 2: So our friend Peg, who was just completely enamored.
[15:58] Speaker 3: I got to tell you, I thought she was seeing, like,
[16:00] Speaker 3: Paul McCartney, for crying out loud, Mick Jagger at the hotel.
[16:04] Speaker 2: She wants to know what you think about Minnesota.
[16:08] Speaker 1: You know, I'm okay on Minnesota. I think the division's
[16:12] Speaker 1: pretty open. I think everyone's got their eyes on the Bears.
[16:16] Speaker 1: I think if the Packers get Micah Parsons that they
[16:19] Speaker 1: traded for a year ago and coming off a blown knee,
[16:23] Speaker 1: if he's like he was, my money may be on
[16:26] Speaker 1: Green Bay. I don't know about Murray, and already out
[16:30] Speaker 1: of Minnesota, we're hearing that Kyler Murray is, you know,
[16:35] Speaker 1: the question that is kind of circulating, how much time
[16:40] Speaker 1: is he putting in on that game plan, in that playbook? Like,
[16:46] Speaker 1: where is his mind at? This is the big complaint
[16:49] Speaker 1: in Phoenix, and it's beginning to seep back into the
[16:53] Speaker 1: storyline in Minnesota. And clearly J.J. McCarthy, to get beaten
[16:58] Speaker 1: out by this guy, I think tells you all you
[17:00] Speaker 1: need to know about where McCarthy is and maybe what
[17:03] Speaker 1: a blown pick that could have been for the Vikings.
[17:05] Speaker 1: They've got one of the great receivers in football. They've
[17:08] Speaker 1: got a couple guys on defense that are noteworthy players
[17:12] Speaker 1: that you've got to watch. I'm okay. I'm a Viking.
[17:17] Speaker 1: There's so many unknowns about it, but it begins with
[17:19] Speaker 1: a quarterback, and so far the results are kind of eh.
[17:24] Speaker 1: And now you've got this other narrative about is he
[17:28] Speaker 1: putting in enough time? Is he the first guy there?
[17:32] Speaker 1: and the last guy to leave, or when the meeting ends,
[17:34] Speaker 1: does he close up the book and head to the
[17:36] Speaker 1: car and take off, and does he just get in
[17:38] Speaker 1: a minute before the meeting starts? That's not what the
[17:41] Speaker 1: top quarterback for a team's got to be. He's got
[17:43] Speaker 1: to be like Sam or like any of the other
[17:48] Speaker 1: good ones in the league. They lead by example. Watch
[17:51] Speaker 1: what I do and how I do it, and I'm
[17:54] Speaker 1: not sure that Murray is that kind of guy, and
[17:57] Speaker 1: that'll be an interesting story to follow as the year
[17:59] Speaker 1: goes on.
[18:00] Speaker 3: Yeah, they got three number one first-run draft picks in
[18:04] Speaker 3: their quarterback room. Kyler Murray was number one, Wentz was
[18:08] Speaker 3: number two, and J.J. McCarthy was a top half of
[18:11] Speaker 3: the first round. So it's unbelievable the draft capital that
[18:14] Speaker 3: they have just sitting there, not from them, obviously, but
[18:16] Speaker 3: sitting there in their draft room. But we mentioned Buffalo earlier,
[18:20] Speaker 3: and my God, it would be a shame, Kevin, wouldn't it,
[18:22] Speaker 3: if Josh Allen never got to play in a Super Bowl?
[18:25] Speaker 2: McDermott out, Joe Brady in.
[18:28] Speaker 3: What do you think year one looks like under Joe
[18:31] Speaker 3: Brady with Josh Allen, man?
[18:33] Speaker 2: I don't know.
[18:33] Speaker 1: And they're going to Houston, I think, this weekend. Correct.
[18:37] Speaker 1: And Houston is just dynamite. Houston is just a shade
[18:42] Speaker 1: maybe below Denver, and the difference might be a quarterback
[18:47] Speaker 1: and a couple other spots. But Houston is so good. God,
[18:51] Speaker 1: are they good. I'm a little concerned. You know, I
[18:57] Speaker 1: like McDermott. I thought he set the right tone. I
[19:01] Speaker 1: think they had trouble getting that coordinator thing settled. And
[19:04] Speaker 1: then Brady came in and seemed to reconnect and do
[19:07] Speaker 1: the things he needed to do. And now he's the
[19:10] Speaker 1: head coach. I don't know. They're a good team. I
[19:15] Speaker 1: don't put them with Denver. And I don't know if
[19:18] Speaker 1: I even put them with Houston. But they're up there,
[19:21] Speaker 1: clearly in the top five. In the AFC, but I
[19:25] Speaker 1: don't know. I'm not sure.
[19:27] Speaker 2: Well, listen, I know you've got to run in a
[19:28] Speaker 2: few minutes and get on the air.
[19:29] Speaker 3: How many years now is this with Westwood One calling
[19:32] Speaker 3: the NFL games?
[19:35] Speaker 1: Overall in the league, I started Monday Night Football in
[19:39] Speaker 1: 09 and started NFL play-by-play in 85. So that means
[19:44] Speaker 1: I'm old. But thankfully I've got friends like you that
[19:50] Speaker 1: buy breakfast and make me laugh and make me energized
[19:53] Speaker 1: about the season. So beginning the year in Seattle with
[19:57] Speaker 1: you this morning was the perfect scenario, and I can't
[20:01] Speaker 1: wait to get the season started.
[20:03] Speaker 3: Yeah, well, let me get a couple more, one more
[20:06] Speaker 3: really on the Seahawks before you go.
[20:08] Speaker 2: I was.
[20:08] Speaker 3: Talking earlier today, I had a conversation with Neil Kosla.
[20:12] Speaker 3: who is Vinod and Neera Khosla's son. They are the
[20:16] Speaker 3: new owners of the Seahawks. And for all I know,
[20:18] Speaker 3: you'll meet them tonight. They're going to be in the stands.
[20:19] Speaker 3: The last time they were here, because, you know, Vinod
[20:22] Speaker 3: was a minority investor, Kevin, in the Niners. They were
[20:25] Speaker 3: here in Seattle last year watching the Niners get destroyed
[20:29] Speaker 3: in the division round, and now they're rooting for the
[20:31] Speaker 3: Seahawks in week one against New England. There are some
[20:34] Speaker 3: nervous fans. It's the first time in 30 years that
[20:37] Speaker 3: an Allen will not own the Seahawks. What's your message?
[20:41] Speaker 3: What's your thought on a new era for ownership here
[20:44] Speaker 3: in Seattle?
[20:45] Speaker 1: Well, the Allen run was historically good. They spent money,
[20:51] Speaker 1: the stadium, the leadership, to let the football people do
[20:55] Speaker 1: their job was their credo. And they didn't ask, why
[21:02] Speaker 1: do you do this? They asked, how can I help?
[21:04] Speaker 1: What can I do to make it better? And Pete
[21:06] Speaker 1: Carroll experienced it. John Schneider has experienced it. And now
[21:11] Speaker 1: with Mike, the same thing is going. I mean, that
[21:14] Speaker 1: was a historic and coveted ownership. And my guess is,
[21:21] Speaker 1: my hope is, if this group is the same way,
[21:24] Speaker 1: I think the blueprint has been laid for a successful
[21:28] Speaker 1: NFL ownership. Few teams, few organizations have had the run
[21:32] Speaker 1: the Seahawks have had over these many decades. So I
[21:36] Speaker 1: would like to think they're going to have the playbook
[21:38] Speaker 1: in front of them that the Allen family wrote, and
[21:42] Speaker 1: they're going to follow it as closely as they can
[21:44] Speaker 1: and look for enhancements as the world evolves. But always say,
[21:49] Speaker 1: how can we help? What do you need? How can
[21:52] Speaker 1: we make this better? And let the football people do
[21:55] Speaker 1: their job. The football people are not going to that
[21:57] Speaker 1: family anymore. and saying, hey, I've got some ideas how
[21:59] Speaker 1: you can make more money. No, they're staying in their lane.
[22:04] Speaker 1: Everybody needs to stay in their lane. That is proven
[22:09] Speaker 1: NFL ownership.
[22:12] Speaker 3: Can you imagine Schneider goes to Vinod Khosla? Hey, man,
[22:15] Speaker 3: I got a tip on a stock. I got a
[22:19] Speaker 3: tip on a nice investment for you. Can I have
[22:21] Speaker 3: $ 20 billion? Hey, Kevin, you're the man. Great stuff. It's
[22:26] Speaker 3: awesome to hear your voice. Awesome to see you. I
[22:29] Speaker 3: don't know why you keep doing it, but you keep
[22:30] Speaker 3: agreeing to come back with us every single year and
[22:33] Speaker 3: talk NFL with us on Wednesdays. And I know you
[22:35] Speaker 3: don't do a lot of these things around the country,
[22:37] Speaker 3: and we are damn lucky to have you. I love
[22:41] Speaker 3: you like a brother. And we are damn lucky to
[22:43] Speaker 3: have you. Can't wait to keep this thing going every
[22:46] Speaker 3: Wednesday during the season, man.
[22:48] Speaker 1: Love you, Dave. Thanks for having me on. It's my
[22:50] Speaker 1: privilege to join you every week. And this great station
[22:54] Speaker 1: in this incredible community following the world champions. I mean,
[22:59] Speaker 1: this is where everybody wants to be. And can't wait
[23:03] Speaker 1: to get there and get this game going tonight. I'm
[23:04] Speaker 1: in the press box right now. Stadium is coming alive.
[23:08] Speaker 1: What a scene and what a great city. And thank
[23:11] Speaker 1: you for having me on again.
[23:13] Speaker 2: You're the best. Kevin Harlan with us, courtesy of the
[23:15] Speaker 2: Emerald Queen.
[23:15] Speaker 3: We'll let him go and get ready for the call
[23:18] Speaker 3: of the Seahawks and the Patriots on national radio.
[23:20] Speaker 2: We'll get a break. We're live at Jimmy's.
[23:22] Speaker 3: Don't forget, Hugh and Dick have the 12th-man postgame show
[23:25] Speaker 3: after tonight's Seahawks game.
[23:27] Speaker 2: What do you say we talk some dogs?
[23:29] Speaker 3: Michael Switzer, man, offensive line coach for UW, not thrilled
[23:33] Speaker 3: at all with the performance of the Hogs up front
[23:35] Speaker 3: versus the Cougars on Sunday.
[23:37] Speaker 2: Hear from him. We'll talk some Huskies next on 93.3 KJRFM.
