## Transcript

[0:00] Speaker 1: Bob Harris is an analyst at Football Guys and host
[0:02] Speaker 1: at Sirius XM Fantasy. He previously did work for well
[0:05] Speaker 1: over two decades with football diehards. He's a Fantasy Sports
[0:09] Speaker 1: Writers Association Hall of Famer. He's my Peloton buddy, and
[0:12] Speaker 1: he's just one of the best people in the fantasy
[0:14] Speaker 1: football industry.
[0:15] Speaker 2: These are his late round perspectives.
[0:29] Speaker 1: I interviewed Austin Eckler for the show last week for,
[0:32] Speaker 1: for perspectives. And there's the, you know, like I had
[0:34] Speaker 1: never talked to him before, you know, it was the
[0:36] Speaker 1: first time chatting and stuff like that.
[0:38] Speaker 2: And there's a sense of like, it's not uneasiness.
[0:40] Speaker 1: It's just the, the anxiety of you wanting to make
[0:43] Speaker 1: sure that things go a certain way or that you
[0:46] Speaker 1: say the right things or that you can, you connect
[0:48] Speaker 1: in some way.
[0:49] Speaker 2: Right.
[0:50] Speaker 1: There's something just so nice about a perspectives week when
[0:53] Speaker 1: it's a friend and when it's someone I've done plenty
[0:55] Speaker 1: of shows with that I talk to, you know, and that's, that's,
[0:58] Speaker 1: that's you, Mr.
[0:59] Speaker 3: Harris.
[0:59] Speaker 2: I'm very excited to have this, to do this show.
[1:02] Speaker 4: I always enjoy the invite.
[1:04] Speaker 3: And by the way, Austin Eckler was, was all over
[1:07] Speaker 3: the fantasy nation thing in Vegas a couple of weeks ago.
[1:11] Speaker 3: interviewing people, doing interviews, super accessible, super nice, super knowledgeable,
[1:16] Speaker 3: really great guy. It was a really good event. I
[1:20] Speaker 3: hope they grow it and make it better. But Austin
[1:22] Speaker 3: Eckler was a highlight for pretty much everyone. And I
[1:24] Speaker 3: think he felt the same about all of us.
[1:26] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[1:27] Speaker 1: It's one of the, it's, you know, it's rare where like,
[1:29] Speaker 1: it's not an, cause sometimes you get athletes and you
[1:31] Speaker 1: get like celebrities and such that are like, you know,
[1:34] Speaker 1: they're just kind of going through the motions because they're
[1:35] Speaker 1: trying to push something or get something out there.
[1:37] Speaker 2: He, he genuinely care.
[1:39] Speaker 1: You know, I talked about it to him a little
[1:40] Speaker 1: bit afterwards and stuff like he genuinely cares. Like you
[1:43] Speaker 1: can tell that he genuinely cares. I think that's a really,
[1:45] Speaker 1: really important part to all of that.
[1:47] Speaker 4: And he understands the game.
[1:48] Speaker 3: I think that's always been the fascinating part to me
[1:50] Speaker 3: of going back to, you know, the early two thousands
[1:52] Speaker 3: when I, you know, we were doing the fantasy sports publications, magazines,
[1:56] Speaker 3: We really started getting into the player interviews and leaning
[1:58] Speaker 3: into them.
[1:59] Speaker 4: And some of these guys were like, really got it.
[2:01] Speaker 4: Like Larry Johnson, I can.
[2:02] Speaker 3: Remember just going, man, this fantasy football is what makes
[2:05] Speaker 3: a Raiders fan a Larry Johnson fan.
[2:09] Speaker 4: And he got it, and others did too.
[2:10] Speaker 3: Sean Alexander, Priest Holmes thought, man, maybe after I'm done playing,
[2:14] Speaker 3: I could get into this. And Latanian Tomlinson, of course.
[2:17] Speaker 3: Totally understood what we were all about and still does.
[2:20] Speaker 3: It's just always good getting that connection with people who
[2:23] Speaker 3: kind of get what we're doing.
[2:25] Speaker 4: Not all of them did.
[2:26] Speaker 3: Jake Plummer would like you to know, among others. But yeah,
[2:31] Speaker 3: that was always interesting to see how they viewed us,
[2:33] Speaker 3: you know, knowing how we view them.
[2:35] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[2:35] Speaker 2: I got to ask you, have you gotten your Peloton
[2:36] Speaker 2: ride in today?
[2:38] Speaker 3: I've not yet today. It's going to be a nighttime thing.
[2:40] Speaker 3: I'm starting to drift into the evenings more. The late
[2:43] Speaker 3: night schedule on work is kind of keeping me from
[2:46] Speaker 3: the early morning ride.
[2:48] Speaker 4: But I will not miss, as you know.
[2:50] Speaker 2: Yeah, I know. I see you on there all the time, man.
[2:52] Speaker 2: You're crushing it.
[2:53] Speaker 1: All right, let's get straight into some of the stuff
[2:56] Speaker 1: that's been going on in the fantasy football world.
[2:59] Speaker 2: We're now done with one week.
[3:00] Speaker 1: We kind of learned a little bit, but probably think
[3:02] Speaker 1: that we learned more than we actually did yesterday. Because
[3:05] Speaker 1: it's usually how this stuff goes. So we're in this
[3:07] Speaker 1: weird spot where we want to react, but we don't
[3:09] Speaker 1: want to overreact. So my question to you to kick
[3:11] Speaker 1: things off is, what are you looking for early on
[3:14] Speaker 1: in the season, whether it be week one, week two,
[3:16] Speaker 1: to sort of help that balance of being reactive, but
[3:20] Speaker 1: not reacting too much and going crazy because you drafted
[3:24] Speaker 1: a lot of Jalen Waddle and he was horrible in
[3:25] Speaker 1: week one.
[3:26] Speaker 4: Right, right. That's the biggest battle, right?
[3:28] Speaker 3: And I mean, you'll see these people fever dropping all
[3:31] Speaker 3: kinds of players week one. First, watch your waiver wire,
[3:35] Speaker 3: see who's getting dropped because people will do the craziest,
[3:38] Speaker 3: most unexpected things. I think that the things that I
[3:40] Speaker 3: noticed in week one was the scoring.
[3:42] Speaker 4: It was great. Sunday's games averaged 53.3 points. Crazy. It
[3:47] Speaker 4: was off the charts.
[3:49] Speaker 3: Monday night came up a little short with 41 points,
[3:50] Speaker 3: but six games on Sunday saw at least 60 combined points.
[3:54] Speaker 4: And one of them set a new bar. Thank you, Bears.
[3:56] Speaker 4: Thank you, Panthers.
[3:56] Speaker 3: 96 points. Highest scoring week one game in NFL history.
[3:59] Speaker 3: So it appears the offenses are ahead of the defenses.
[4:04] Speaker 3: So again, week one is a big fat liar.
[4:06] Speaker 4: We all know this, right? Like we are going to
[4:08] Speaker 4: see things that don't persist.
[4:09] Speaker 3: But some of the things that I generally think of,
[4:13] Speaker 3: and I try to remind my audience all the time is,
[4:16] Speaker 3: is September is the new August, right?
[4:21] Speaker 4: We're playing a game based on a game That's.
[4:23] Speaker 3: Designed to be volatile, to have variants, to have unexpected outcomes.
[4:27] Speaker 4: It's not a bug. That's a feature.
[4:29] Speaker 3: That's the desired outcome for the NFL. And, you know,
[4:32] Speaker 3: you have to mentally deal with the fact that every,
[4:35] Speaker 3: you know, the best, your, your great process, making the
[4:39] Speaker 3: best decisions is not going to lead to the best
[4:41] Speaker 3: outcomes every week.
[4:42] Speaker 4: It's just not how this works.
[4:43] Speaker 3: And so once you realize this and like, look, we
[4:46] Speaker 3: want to have control and I want to say we
[4:47] Speaker 3: have control, but it's like a NASCAR driver saying, The
[4:50] Speaker 3: minute that car starts spinning, you'll hear them all say
[4:51] Speaker 3: the same thing. Well, at that point, I'm just a passenger, right?
[4:54] Speaker 3: Once the kickoff happens, we're just passengers. We've made our decisions.
[4:58] Speaker 3: We've made logical choices. We've looked at all the numbers.
[5:00] Speaker 3: We've reviewed everything we can, but we're not calling plays.
[5:03] Speaker 3: We're not throwing passes. We're not blocking for anybody. We're
[5:05] Speaker 3: not taping ankles. Our control ends, and we just have
[5:08] Speaker 3: to sit back and watch. I think that's one of
[5:10] Speaker 3: the frustrating and exhilarating things about this game.
[5:14] Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that the point about how much scoring
[5:17] Speaker 1: there was in week one, I actually took a step
[5:19] Speaker 1: back and I was texting a couple of folks in
[5:21] Speaker 1: the industry. I have a text thread with our main
[5:25] Speaker 1: event team that we had drafted. It's me, Silva, Davis Maddock,
[5:28] Speaker 1: Pat Thorman, and Rich Rebar. So the five of us,
[5:30] Speaker 1: we do a main event team every year together. And
[5:32] Speaker 1: then we have a text thread where we're just texting about,
[5:34] Speaker 1: you know, life, fantasy football, et cetera. And we were
[5:37] Speaker 1: all texting about the high scoring nature of week one.
[5:39] Speaker 1: And then I started thinking about it because I didn't really,
[5:41] Speaker 1: you know, I'm like, yeah, cool. It was a high
[5:42] Speaker 1: scoring week one.
[5:43] Speaker 2: That's fun. But I actually, I took a step back
[5:46] Speaker 2: and I thought about the idea that I.
[5:48] Speaker 1: Like when this happens, when there's more usable pieces in
[5:51] Speaker 1: fantasy football, more because when, you know, like last year,
[5:55] Speaker 1: even year before that, whatever, you know, when, when you
[5:57] Speaker 1: get quarterback injuries or you get these different offenses that
[6:01] Speaker 1: are maybe leaning a bit, a little bit more run heavy,
[6:03] Speaker 1: whatever the case may be, you get more inefficiency on
[6:05] Speaker 1: offense and you only get, let's say, five to eight
[6:09] Speaker 1: like legitimate legitimate game breaking players in fantasy football it
[6:14] Speaker 1: makes the game less interesting right yes because because i
[6:17] Speaker 1: mean look when you're doing weekly rankings last year i
[6:19] Speaker 1: remember when i was doing the weekly rankings last year
[6:21] Speaker 1: uh i would get to wide receiver and i'm like
[6:23] Speaker 1: these guys after the eighth wide receiver everyone sucks it's
[6:26] Speaker 1: the same guy over and over again you know And
[6:28] Speaker 1: so like, I'm hoping that this sticks to some degree
[6:32] Speaker 1: more so than what we had maybe the last couple
[6:34] Speaker 1: of years, because now it's not just, oh, you won
[6:36] Speaker 1: your fantasy championship.
[6:37] Speaker 2: Did you have Bijan Robinson or not?
[6:38] Speaker 4: Okay.
[6:39] Speaker 2: You didn't. Okay.
[6:39] Speaker 1: You didn't win, you know, or you didn't have Chris
[6:41] Speaker 1: McCaffrey last year, whatever the case may be. I just
[6:43] Speaker 1: think it's better for the game in general. When you
[6:46] Speaker 1: get more of these offenses doing these things, we just
[6:48] Speaker 1: have to hope that, you know, if the bears drop
[6:50] Speaker 1: another 59 burger, it's not Kalief Raymond with the, with
[6:53] Speaker 1: the 30 plus percent target share.
[6:54] Speaker 2: And we get guys that were actually using it. Yeah, exactly.
[6:57] Speaker 4: The donut did not taste good.
[7:00] Speaker 2: No, that did not. Did not at all.
[7:01] Speaker 1: So I guess leading into that, you know, we just
[7:04] Speaker 1: did months and months of prep, you know, getting into
[7:08] Speaker 1: this season.
[7:08] Speaker 2: What do you think was the most surprising revelation in
[7:11] Speaker 2: week one?
[7:13] Speaker 3: The most surprising or most satisfying because i've been banking
[7:16] Speaker 3: on it but it's the it's back to the future
[7:18] Speaker 3: jj the future back the true feature running backs you
[7:22] Speaker 3: know like look there was a period where the zero
[7:24] Speaker 3: running back strategies and hero running back strategy made sense
[7:27] Speaker 3: we saw more people drafting doubling up on running backs
[7:30] Speaker 3: in the first two rounds or certainly in the first
[7:32] Speaker 3: three rounds and it paid off you look at the
[7:34] Speaker 3: guys that are getting you know the carries we want
[7:37] Speaker 3: like Again, we go back to the variance and volatility.
[7:40] Speaker 4: What are the things that I control?
[7:41] Speaker 3: Well, I can't actually control it, but I can count
[7:44] Speaker 3: on certain volume or at least certain anticipated volume. Christian
[7:47] Speaker 3: Caffrey would like you to know not everyone gets it
[7:49] Speaker 3: every week. But for the most part, those roles are pretty–
[7:53] Speaker 3: they're pretty reliable. And I think as that list of
[7:56] Speaker 3: players grows, I mean, we can add David Montgomery to
[7:58] Speaker 3: the list this year to, you know, Jameer Gibbs, Derrick Henry,
[8:03] Speaker 3: Jonathan Taylor, Bijan Robinson, Kenneth Walker.
[8:06] Speaker 4: Welcome to the club.
[8:09] Speaker 3: So Ashton Gentry turning into the thing. Turns out maybe
[8:13] Speaker 3: his stance was OK, Chip Kelly. Please take that into
[8:15] Speaker 3: account in future jobs.
[8:17] Speaker 2: I mean, yeah.
[8:18] Speaker 3: And again, I mean, we could take that all the
[8:19] Speaker 3: way down. I mean, Brees Hall got the workload that
[8:22] Speaker 3: you would expect. And, you know, all the talk coming
[8:24] Speaker 3: to see, we're going to get 300 months. Well, we
[8:26] Speaker 3: heard that last year, too, and it wasn't. And he
[8:28] Speaker 3: had the most carries of his career last year. I
[8:29] Speaker 3: think it could be even bigger this year. because they'll
[8:32] Speaker 3: add some more receptions. Yandre Swift got pretty much a
[8:35] Speaker 3: featured role, even with Kyle Monunga chipping in big time
[8:38] Speaker 3: in this game. It was a huge rushing game for
[8:40] Speaker 3: the Bears. But, I mean, I just think that feature-level
[8:42] Speaker 3: outcomes are becoming more prominent. And some of the guys
[8:46] Speaker 3: who fell short, James Cook, Devon A.
[8:48] Speaker 4: Chan, Omarion Hampton, Quinshawn Jenkins.
[8:51] Speaker 3: You know, even then you'd expect the roles to at
[8:54] Speaker 3: least normalize them a little bit, except Quinshawn.
[8:56] Speaker 4: Duncan's going to have a little bit of a struggle
[8:58] Speaker 4: with that offense. Yeah.
[8:59] Speaker 5: Yeah.
[8:59] Speaker 2: The way the offense performed for sure. For sure.
[9:02] Speaker 1: But yeah, I mean, I think too, you know, it
[9:04] Speaker 1: goes back to, I write about this in the draft
[9:06] Speaker 1: guide every year where, you know, at running back, you
[9:08] Speaker 1: generally have to spend.
[9:09] Speaker 2: Money to make money.
[9:10] Speaker 4: Right.
[9:10] Speaker 1: And all the guys you just mentioned, Bob, are guys
[9:13] Speaker 1: that we drafted in the first three or four drafts.
[9:15] Speaker 2: You know, absolutely.
[9:16] Speaker 4: Javante Williams, I left off my list. Right.
[9:18] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[9:19] Speaker 2: Javante had had one of the best receiving games of
[9:21] Speaker 2: his career. You know, the great Cam Scadaboo. Yes.
[9:24] Speaker 1: Yes.
[9:24] Speaker 4: So much disrespect.
[9:25] Speaker 3: So like some of the guys, you know, you think
[9:27] Speaker 3: about all your flag plants, the guys that you know,
[9:29] Speaker 3: you know how I do this.
[9:31] Speaker 4: I talk about, you know, talk to my audience, my readers,
[9:34] Speaker 4: you know.
[9:35] Speaker 3: I think i'm telling them happy stories about the players
[9:37] Speaker 3: i want to draft right yeah and i tell them
[9:38] Speaker 3: sad tales of woe when it comes to players i
[9:40] Speaker 3: want to dial back on but the happy stories i've
[9:42] Speaker 3: been spinning on cam scadabo and deandre swift the week
[9:45] Speaker 3: one was super satisfying uh realizing it's temporary and nothing
[9:49] Speaker 3: you know kind of have a little humility in this
[9:51] Speaker 3: jj i think that's the the key to all this
[9:53] Speaker 3: is understanding that lack of control we have but seeing
[9:55] Speaker 3: some of those things come to fruition and, David Montgomery
[9:58] Speaker 3: was another one that you're, you know, that we all
[10:00] Speaker 3: call ourselves, man, Joe Mixon was running back 10 on
[10:03] Speaker 3: a points per game basis in this similar role. There's
[10:06] Speaker 3: some running back one weeks here for, for David Montgomery and,
[10:09] Speaker 3: you know, a little red zone luck like we saw
[10:11] Speaker 3: last week and we'll get more of those.
[10:13] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[10:14] Speaker 2: Yeah, for sure. That's a really, really good thing to
[10:17] Speaker 2: point out.
[10:18] Speaker 1: And I do think that so far, you know, of
[10:20] Speaker 1: course the other thing to remember too, is that of
[10:23] Speaker 1: course we're looking at small samples, but with the running
[10:25] Speaker 1: back position in general, The idea of zero RB would
[10:30] Speaker 1: come more to fruition week 10, week 11, you know,
[10:34] Speaker 1: as the season goes on, this is very early to
[10:37] Speaker 1: say that this is definitively, you know, the way that
[10:40] Speaker 1: would go, but you're right. Like you look at some
[10:42] Speaker 1: of the workloads, you look at the performances from some
[10:44] Speaker 1: of these guys, the better the offenses are.
[10:47] Speaker 2: Going to perform, the more we're going to see the
[10:49] Speaker 2: random David Montgomery three touchdown performance.
[10:52] Speaker 4: For sure.
[10:53] Speaker 3: And, you know, for guys like Derrick Henry, you know,
[10:55] Speaker 3: who obviously defying all the odds, you know, he's going
[10:59] Speaker 3: to be 33 before the last game of the season.
[11:01] Speaker 4: Right.
[11:02] Speaker 3: Two hundred and fifty pounds still hits 20 miles an
[11:04] Speaker 3: hour on the regular. You know, I'm looking I keep
[11:06] Speaker 3: my next gen stats speed page open because of Matt
[11:10] Speaker 3: Wallman will tell you that's like my centerfold of my.
[11:13] Speaker 4: Of my pornographic stat life.
[11:16] Speaker 3: He's always ranks highly there, but, but you know, that
[11:19] Speaker 3: offense in general, that offensive environment. Now, I mean, Declan
[11:21] Speaker 3: Doyle has had the receiver schemed up nicely to.
[11:24] Speaker 4: Have big games. Hello, say flowers. Lamar Jackson got done.
[11:28] Speaker 3: And, and so again, one more, we should stress this
[11:31] Speaker 3: like every 30 seconds. We're right until we're wrong and
[11:34] Speaker 3: vice versa. And that can change at the drop of
[11:37] Speaker 3: a hat, right? So injuries, attrition, just general circumstance, anything
[11:42] Speaker 3: can change this. But you get these signs of the
[11:44] Speaker 3: things that you hoped for. And part of this, JJ,
[11:47] Speaker 3: you know how I like to roll. I like to,
[11:48] Speaker 3: you know, a big part of my process is what
[11:51] Speaker 3: does the team want to happen? They tell us this
[11:53] Speaker 3: through their draft capital they expend, the money they spend
[11:55] Speaker 3: in free agency, the moves they make, the coaches they hire.
[11:59] Speaker 3: We know what the desired outcomes are in most cases.
[12:01] Speaker 3: And that should be part of your process is understanding
[12:04] Speaker 3: what the teams want, what the coaches involved have tendencies
[12:07] Speaker 3: towards and trying to play into those tendencies.
[12:11] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[12:11] Speaker 1: Well, you just mentioned that we're going to be wrong
[12:13] Speaker 1: a lot as, as we both know, we've, we've been,
[12:15] Speaker 1: you and I have been wrong. I mean, look, you,
[12:17] Speaker 1: you've been doing it even longer than me, literal thousands
[12:20] Speaker 1: of times, right? Like, yes, like quite literally thousands of
[12:23] Speaker 1: last week, last week alone. Um, so clearly a preseason
[12:28] Speaker 1: take that you had going into the season, uh, is
[12:31] Speaker 1: shaky right now after one week of games. And I'm
[12:34] Speaker 1: curious of what is that preseason take that, you know,
[12:38] Speaker 1: probably didn't go right in week one that you're now actually, again,
[12:41] Speaker 1: small sample size caveat, but you are maybe a little
[12:44] Speaker 1: bit concerned about moving forward.
[12:47] Speaker 4: I feel like I speak for many fantasy analysts when
[12:49] Speaker 4: I say.
[12:49] Speaker 3: Jonathan Brooks, come on, man. You know, I think there
[12:53] Speaker 3: was a big drive and you saw the push in
[12:54] Speaker 3: ADP where he went from, you know, like when he
[12:57] Speaker 3: was going into 10th 8th to 10th round it was
[13:00] Speaker 3: a great opportunity right here's a guy that potentially if
[13:03] Speaker 3: he turns into the thing the panthers drafted would be
[13:06] Speaker 3: could be a league winning kind of player yeah right
[13:09] Speaker 3: chuba hover has other ideas dave canales is going to
[13:11] Speaker 3: ride the hot hand we've seen that in the past
[13:14] Speaker 3: and right now it's chuba hovered i think this could
[13:16] Speaker 3: change right but i i guess you know if i
[13:17] Speaker 3: want to extend that out it's all the ambiguous backfields
[13:20] Speaker 3: uh investing in the cheaper pieces so far is not
[13:24] Speaker 3: Kenneth Gainwell, Rashad White. Chris Rodriguez got a lot of work,
[13:29] Speaker 3: but he didn't do a lot with it. And Basil Tootin,
[13:31] Speaker 3: to me, looked clearly like he's on the verge of
[13:34] Speaker 3: doing some things. So I think some of those where
[13:37] Speaker 3: I tend to go for the cheaper options, it's not
[13:40] Speaker 3: looking great at the moment.
[13:41] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[13:41] Speaker 1: No, that's a good one to call out. I do wonder,
[13:44] Speaker 1: are you... Is there some sense of optimism with the
[13:46] Speaker 1: Jonathan Brooks stuff that it was based off of the
[13:50] Speaker 1: groin or whatever? I mean, they were being really weird
[13:52] Speaker 1: about what that injury actually was. So everyone's just like,
[13:55] Speaker 1: you know, it's a private parts type injury or whatever.
[13:57] Speaker 1: But like, is there some optimism because of that?
[14:01] Speaker 3: Yeah, there's optimism because it wasn't the knee. You know,
[14:05] Speaker 3: when we heard it, the first thing we heard was
[14:07] Speaker 3: just he was dealing with soreness. And I said, would
[14:09] Speaker 3: that be knee soreness? Because that's not good. And when
[14:11] Speaker 3: I found out it wasn't, I mean, I'm sorry for
[14:13] Speaker 3: your groin, sir, but. Also, glad it wasn't your knee. So, yes,
[14:16] Speaker 3: there's a great deal of hope. He still has that
[14:18] Speaker 3: opportunity to turn into the guy they drafted him to be.
[14:21] Speaker 3: And we saw it alternate at times last year. Rico
[14:23] Speaker 3: Dowdle came on strong, had that historic three-game stretch last year.
[14:28] Speaker 3: But that's part of the concerns is that coaching staff
[14:32] Speaker 3: is more than willing to go back and forth with
[14:35] Speaker 3: the guy they want. And talking over the– since Chuba
[14:38] Speaker 3: Hubbard emerged as the lead back there a couple years ago,
[14:42] Speaker 3: The thing that struck me, the word I keep hearing
[14:44] Speaker 3: about his running style is violent. Every beat writer I've
[14:47] Speaker 3: talked to has mentioned it. I hear Dave Canales use
[14:49] Speaker 3: that word. So they're all getting it from him. And
[14:51] Speaker 3: so Tuba Hubbard offers something that they really like. And
[14:55] Speaker 3: so that's something you have to keep in mind here.
[14:57] Speaker 3: But Brooks still looks like the more well-rounded, more dangerous,
[15:00] Speaker 3: breakaway guy. Although Tuba was a track star in college.
[15:04] Speaker 3: He fell back in Canada. So he was a sprinter.
[15:08] Speaker 3: But I don't think he has the same kind of
[15:09] Speaker 3: elusiveness that Jonathan did.
[15:11] Speaker 4: Jonathan Brooks does. So yes, I'm still holding out hopes there.
[15:14] Speaker 2: Yeah, it was kind of interesting.
[15:15] Speaker 1: So I do the Becoming a Best Ball Bro podcast
[15:18] Speaker 1: series in the feed during the summer, during best ball season.
[15:21] Speaker 1: And one of the things that my co-host Rich Ryan
[15:24] Speaker 1: and I talked about for the final month of the season,
[15:27] Speaker 1: of the best ball drafting season, was the fact that like,
[15:30] Speaker 1: so a lot of people listening to this, 90% plus
[15:33] Speaker 1: probably didn't play a ton of best ball or maybe
[15:35] Speaker 1: didn't even notice some of the trends that were going
[15:37] Speaker 1: on in best ball. Best ball is even more reactionary
[15:40] Speaker 1: than what we see in regular season long leagues, right?
[15:43] Speaker 1: Part of it is because season long is mostly just
[15:45] Speaker 1: drafted in August, so there's not as much of a
[15:47] Speaker 1: time frame where you can see these players shift and
[15:50] Speaker 1: move in ADP so much. But one of the crazy,
[15:53] Speaker 1: crazy things was that last year I faded Chuba Hubbard.
[15:57] Speaker 1: I think that he's fine, but it's not someone that
[15:59] Speaker 1: I'm going to... be so totally investing because I don't
[16:02] Speaker 1: think that there's like elite talent there with Hubbard, right?
[16:05] Speaker 5: Right.
[16:05] Speaker 1: And the crazy thing in best ball is that, yes,
[16:07] Speaker 1: we saw the shift, as you noted, in season-long drafts, right?
[16:11] Speaker 1: Where Jonathan Brooks was going ahead of Chuba and, you know,
[16:13] Speaker 1: it was... But there was still like some tightness there
[16:15] Speaker 1: from an ADP perspective.
[16:16] Speaker 2: You know, it was still.
[16:18] Speaker 1: Dude, best ball, like over on DraftKings, Jonathan Brooks ended
[16:21] Speaker 1: up being like a round six pick at times. And
[16:24] Speaker 1: Chuba would be going in round 11. Like it was wild.
[16:27] Speaker 4: So it was almost reversed from the early part.
[16:31] Speaker 3: And so, you know, and look, once it flips like
[16:34] Speaker 3: that in best ball, I am filthy with Chuba Hubbard
[16:38] Speaker 3: shares now as well as Jonathan Brooks.
[16:39] Speaker 4: So it's a little easier. And you're right, it is
[16:41] Speaker 4: super reactionary.
[16:42] Speaker 3: Although I was in drafts in August where, you know,
[16:46] Speaker 3: uh mike washington jr suddenly left into the fourth round
[16:49] Speaker 3: you know people trying to leverage momentary situations and and
[16:53] Speaker 3: i think look i i love the way you're in
[16:55] Speaker 3: drafts and people go up and get their guy yeah
[16:58] Speaker 3: right like you can see people who are drafting like
[16:59] Speaker 3: that i know that's the guy i gotta.
[17:00] Speaker 4: Watch out for that's a girl i gotta watch out for.
[17:02] Speaker 3: That that person who is who is out there aggressively
[17:06] Speaker 3: moving and who understands that adp is where people are
[17:09] Speaker 3: being drafted not when you have to draft them And
[17:12] Speaker 3: I think you see that more prominent in high stakes,
[17:15] Speaker 3: more prominent for the San Francisco 49ers. It just struck me.
[17:17] Speaker 3: They're the high stakes players of the NFL. They see
[17:20] Speaker 3: guys they want. They don't care what ADP says.
[17:23] Speaker 4: They just go grab them.
[17:26] Speaker 1: Fortunately for them, they have a good manager, a.k.a. Kyle Shanahan,
[17:30] Speaker 1: because a lot of those picks historically have not been
[17:33] Speaker 1: the best.
[17:34] Speaker 2: That they've gone after and reached.
[17:36] Speaker 1: But it looks like so far, look, I do think
[17:38] Speaker 1: that early on and right now, I do think that
[17:42] Speaker 1: The Kalon Black investment looks fine. I don't know if
[17:44] Speaker 1: he's going to be a stud, but I think he
[17:45] Speaker 1: looked good in week one. And then obviously, Stribling is hurt.
[17:49] Speaker 1: We're not going to see him for 10 weeks, if
[17:51] Speaker 1: not more. But it looked like that was going to
[17:54] Speaker 1: work out.
[17:54] Speaker 3: The fit, the opportunity seemed, the fit, the size, the speed,
[17:58] Speaker 3: the downfield blocking, all those things that are Shanahan characteristics
[18:02] Speaker 3: he's looking for. He likes those things. And Trey Sermon notwithstanding,
[18:07] Speaker 3: as you mentioned, not all those guys work out.
[18:09] Speaker 4: Right? So yeah. So yeah.
[18:11] Speaker 1: Ty Davis price, uh, Joe Williams, like we go on
[18:15] Speaker 1: and on with some of these, uh, 49 shots. I
[18:18] Speaker 1: want to ask then what a preseason take of yours
[18:20] Speaker 1: that looks wrong right now from like a result standpoint
[18:23] Speaker 1: that you're just not worried about whatsoever. So before, you know,
[18:26] Speaker 1: Jonathan Brooks, you were worried about a little bit just
[18:28] Speaker 1: based on what we saw week one. Maybe there's some concern,
[18:31] Speaker 1: but a take that you had or that you felt
[18:34] Speaker 1: and then week one happens and you know, maybe they
[18:37] Speaker 1: didn't perform very well, but you're like, yeah, they'll be fine.
[18:40] Speaker 3: I think there was a bunch of them, JJ. I mean,
[18:42] Speaker 3: like Brooks would probably be one of them. I still
[18:44] Speaker 3: think I'm going to be okay on that, right? Like,
[18:46] Speaker 3: I don't think it's going to be a disaster. I
[18:48] Speaker 3: still think Kenneth Gainwell is going to have some run.
[18:51] Speaker 3: I still think Christian McCaffrey is a league winning player.
[18:53] Speaker 3: I think week one was an anomaly. I think that's
[18:56] Speaker 3: maybe the one. So I had him ranked as running
[18:58] Speaker 3: back three, but honestly. My argument was, if you thought
[19:01] Speaker 3: he was going to play 17 games, is there really
[19:03] Speaker 3: a big argument that he would, you know, like you
[19:05] Speaker 3: could say, yeah, I prefer Jameer Gibbs or B. John Robinson,
[19:08] Speaker 3: but if you knew he was going to play and
[19:11] Speaker 3: have his role, you would have drafted him like that.
[19:13] Speaker 4: I think the role will return.
[19:14] Speaker 3: I think that's one that people are going to be
[19:16] Speaker 3: very worried about, but maybe some people will dial back.
[19:18] Speaker 3: I think the Derrick Henry, I was... you know, I
[19:21] Speaker 3: was not out on him. So I think people who
[19:23] Speaker 3: were out on him are going to be worried. Jordan Mason,
[19:26] Speaker 3: I'm worried about now because he's hurt. I had him,
[19:29] Speaker 3: you know, leaping ahead of Aaron Jones. Week one wasn't
[19:32] Speaker 3: promising in that regard as it was, but then the
[19:36] Speaker 3: thumb injury, he's going to miss a month and that
[19:37] Speaker 3: kind of, you know, puts the kibosh on that. And
[19:40] Speaker 3: Quinshawn Junkins, I think the player is good. I think
[19:43] Speaker 3: the role is going to be great. I hope Shador
[19:46] Speaker 3: Sanders gets in there because I think that's the only
[19:47] Speaker 3: hope this offense is going to get slightly better.
[19:49] Speaker 4: And it's the only thing I hope. I hope it's
[19:51] Speaker 4: cheap JJ. I like to indulge myself.
[19:53] Speaker 2: Yeah, no, I'm with you.
[19:54] Speaker 1: I mean, the thing with Quinn Sean, you know, I
[19:56] Speaker 1: wasn't very high on him just from a situation standpoint, obviously,
[19:59] Speaker 1: you know, I don't think there was like a ton
[20:01] Speaker 1: of analysts that were like pounding the table for Judkins
[20:03] Speaker 1: necessarily this off season.
[20:05] Speaker 4: Right price though.
[20:06] Speaker 2: He was fine enough. Yeah. Yeah.
[20:08] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[20:09] Speaker 1: But I will say I'm very interested to see how
[20:13] Speaker 1: much receiving work and negative game script work he might,
[20:15] Speaker 1: end up seeing with Dylan Sampson out. Now, Raheem Sanders
[20:19] Speaker 1: ended up seeing that this past week, and that's concerning.
[20:22] Speaker 1: I was looking at the splits in the second half
[20:25] Speaker 1: last week, and Sanders basically had a 40% snapshot in
[20:28] Speaker 1: the second, which is a big problem for Judkins, for sure.
[20:31] Speaker 2: So that would be my biggest concern at this point.
[20:33] Speaker 3: If I was worried about somebody not, you know, like
[20:35] Speaker 3: I was, you know, say I'm, I'd love to think
[20:37] Speaker 3: that Harold Fann is going to rebound, but I don't
[20:38] Speaker 3: know that he will because that offensive environment.
[20:40] Speaker 4: Right.
[20:41] Speaker 3: And also Casey Concepcion gets a lot of those similar
[20:44] Speaker 3: kind of targets to him. And Denzel Boston gives them
[20:47] Speaker 3: a viable downfield threat at the same time.
[20:49] Speaker 4: So they don't need to push that.
[20:50] Speaker 3: I guess the one that everyone's probably looking at is
[20:51] Speaker 3: the Chargers had huge expectations against the Arizona Cardinals. Mike
[20:55] Speaker 3: McDaniel's first game. I'll remind you, he got off to
[20:57] Speaker 3: a slow start in Miami as well. So I think,
[21:01] Speaker 3: I think the Chargers are going to be fine.
[21:03] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[21:03] Speaker 1: I mean, does it not feel like the Raiders Patriots
[21:06] Speaker 1: game last year?
[21:07] Speaker 2: The week one game?
[21:07] Speaker 4: Yeah. A little bit.
[21:09] Speaker 2: Kind of feel that way.
[21:10] Speaker 4: I do.
[21:10] Speaker 1: I do have a little bit of concern about their
[21:11] Speaker 1: like interior offensive line.
[21:13] Speaker 4: That's the problem.
[21:14] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[21:14] Speaker 2: That's, that's definitely an issue, but.
[21:16] Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, it's hard to do all the research
[21:19] Speaker 1: we did over the last five months.
[21:22] Speaker 3: And think that Tyler Bionish is going to be the
[21:25] Speaker 3: reason it all collapses.
[21:27] Speaker 1: Yeah, it feels like it's just a little bit, you know,
[21:30] Speaker 1: sometimes teams show up and sometimes teams don't. And sometimes
[21:33] Speaker 1: there's a bad game. Not only that, but the Chargers
[21:35] Speaker 1: offense was a lot better when Ladd McConkie was active
[21:37] Speaker 1: in that game. When he left, that's when things really,
[21:39] Speaker 1: really went to the crapper.
[21:41] Speaker 3: Also, I mean, it goes back to what I said
[21:43] Speaker 3: at the top of the program. The NFL would prefer
[21:45] Speaker 3: us to get those kind of outcomes every week and
[21:48] Speaker 3: they go out of their way to facilitate them. And kudos,
[21:51] Speaker 3: by the way, to Michael Flohr. I had zero expectations there.
[21:55] Speaker 3: for the Arizona Cardinals. I thought they did a really
[21:57] Speaker 3: good job and they had a great game plan. I
[21:59] Speaker 3: thought a lot went right for the Arizona Cardinals as
[22:02] Speaker 3: much as it went wrong for the chargers. Yeah.
[22:03] Speaker 1: I mean, I was basically lower than market on all four,
[22:06] Speaker 1: the big four Arizona guys this year.
[22:08] Speaker 2: I mean, how dare you? Yeah, I know. I know.
[22:11] Speaker 3: I was on love. I, there's no, I don't know
[22:13] Speaker 3: if I have any shares of love that were running
[22:15] Speaker 3: back 13 price. I may have got some when he dipped,
[22:18] Speaker 3: when the ankle sprain happened. Now, now the Michael Wilson shares,
[22:22] Speaker 3: you will, You'll find him on pretty much every roster.
[22:25] Speaker 4: It was irresistible.
[22:26] Speaker 1: I sat there and I'm like, Trey McBride ran 120
[22:30] Speaker 1: more routes than any other tight end last year. Trey
[22:32] Speaker 1: McBride ran 100 more routes than any other tight end
[22:34] Speaker 1: since 2016. I mean, it was crazy last year, the
[22:37] Speaker 1: amount of volume he had. So I'm like, I'd much
[22:39] Speaker 1: rather just go the Bowers route than McBride.
[22:42] Speaker 4: Me too. I was the same.
[22:43] Speaker 1: And then McBride sees crazy usage in week one. So naturally,
[22:46] Speaker 1: you know, people are blowing me up, deservedly so. I
[22:49] Speaker 1: was wrong so far about Trey McBride. But then, like,
[22:51] Speaker 1: you know, I couldn't really get behind Marvin Harrison Jr.
[22:53] Speaker 1: just because we haven't really seen. And then with the
[22:55] Speaker 1: Michael Wilson stuff, I'm like, this kind of feels like
[22:58] Speaker 1: a profile that's like Jerry Judy from last year, you know, where.
[23:02] Speaker 2: His splits were so good in a pass-heavy offense with
[23:04] Speaker 2: a backup quarterback, Jameis Winston.
[23:06] Speaker 4: Jameis Winston couldn't look at it. anywhere else right.
[23:08] Speaker 1: Right and his numbers look so much better when the
[23:11] Speaker 1: injuries happen Michael Wilson without Marvin Harrison Jr. Jerry Judy
[23:14] Speaker 1: without Cedric Tillman that season it was a very like
[23:17] Speaker 1: there was a lot of parallels there but you know
[23:19] Speaker 1: the new coaching staff could could definitely change things and
[23:21] Speaker 1: make things better there that was the difference between what
[23:24] Speaker 1: we saw at the Browns year over year but again
[23:26] Speaker 1: I do look at that week it's funny you bring
[23:28] Speaker 1: up Arizona because I've kind of had these thoughts in
[23:29] Speaker 1: my mind I haven't really shared them on the podcast
[23:31] Speaker 1: or anything like that We look at what happened with
[23:34] Speaker 1: Arizona's offense in week one. No one was like unbelievable.
[23:37] Speaker 1: I mean, Kendrick Bourne was involved, obviously, front of the show.
[23:40] Speaker 1: I got to interview him.
[23:41] Speaker 4: He's great. I've been in a league with him. I've
[23:44] Speaker 4: been in a league with him.
[23:45] Speaker 1: Does he not have the greatest energy of anyone you've
[23:47] Speaker 1: ever met?
[23:48] Speaker 4: He's a wild man, and he makes some interesting picks.
[23:50] Speaker 1: Yeah, I bet. So here's my general vibes take of Arizona.
[23:57] Speaker 1: And this is where I love late round perspectives because
[23:59] Speaker 1: this is where I can just kind of throw stuff
[24:01] Speaker 1: out there and then let someone react. It's not like
[24:05] Speaker 1: a full-fledged, thought-out take. But with Arizona in week one,
[24:10] Speaker 1: Trey McBride had a very, very high target share. more
[24:14] Speaker 1: like higher than what he even saw last year. So
[24:15] Speaker 1: I don't think that that's going to maintain. I think that,
[24:17] Speaker 1: you know, it was a great game for him, but
[24:19] Speaker 1: at the same time, likely a little bit matchup based
[24:22] Speaker 1: and likely just, you know, a good game for McBride, right?
[24:25] Speaker 1: If Kendrick Bourne is involved in some way in this offense,
[24:29] Speaker 1: he's not going to see what he did in week one,
[24:31] Speaker 1: week in and week out, right? That's why we're not
[24:32] Speaker 1: recommending him as like a, you know, a pick up
[24:35] Speaker 1: in most 12 team leagues. But if he's involved in
[24:38] Speaker 1: some way as kind of their primary slot and the
[24:40] Speaker 1: guy that can play in that 11 personnel, that is
[24:43] Speaker 1: probably not good news for the pass catchers in that
[24:47] Speaker 1: offense in general, because you're going to like, there's already
[24:50] Speaker 1: sort of some limit, natural limitation that you're going to
[24:52] Speaker 1: see in Arizona. And if Trey McBride is going to
[24:55] Speaker 1: get a decent chunk and then obviously, you know, Michael
[24:58] Speaker 1: Wilson might get his, but, but like Marvin Harrison jr.
[25:00] Speaker 1: Did nothing in week one, right? Like low target share
[25:04] Speaker 1: barely was looked at.
[25:06] Speaker 2: That's not going to happen.
[25:06] Speaker 1: I'm not the biggest fan in the world, but that's
[25:09] Speaker 1: not going to happen week in and week out. So
[25:10] Speaker 1: my fear with Arizona right now is that we're looking
[25:13] Speaker 1: at week one and we're like Trey McBride league winner.
[25:16] Speaker 5: Sure.
[25:16] Speaker 2: It might be, he might do the same thing he
[25:17] Speaker 2: did last year and just dominate. It's always a possibility.
[25:20] Speaker 1: I'm still a little bit skeptical because I don't know
[25:21] Speaker 1: if the route volume, especially if they play well defensively,
[25:24] Speaker 1: if that route volume is going to be there for him.
[25:26] Speaker 4: Right.
[25:27] Speaker 1: And so if it goes game by game to some
[25:29] Speaker 1: degree from like a game planning standpoint, I'm I'm just envisioning,
[25:32] Speaker 1: and if Kendrick Bourne is involved, and then if they
[25:34] Speaker 1: get Jeremiah Love more involved as a receiver, you know,
[25:37] Speaker 1: as the season goes on, is it going to be
[25:40] Speaker 1: a rollercoaster of frustration from a fantasy football perspective with
[25:44] Speaker 1: these players in this offense? That's kind of my, I'd
[25:47] Speaker 1: almost like rather see Arizona have been down by 20
[25:51] Speaker 1: points in the late second quarter, and then just do
[25:54] Speaker 1: the formula that worked for them last year from a
[25:56] Speaker 1: fantasy perspective, which was, we're going to throw the ball
[25:58] Speaker 1: a lot, and we're going to be fine doing so,
[26:01] Speaker 1: and that's going to be great from a fantasy football perspective.
[26:03] Speaker 3: Yeah, I felt like that was for a minute low-key
[26:05] Speaker 3: Jacoby Brissett slander. I wasn't going to stand for it, but.
[26:07] Speaker 4: I think you qualified it. No, Jacoby Brissett's fine. He's fine.
[26:12] Speaker 4: I think you qualified it well there. I'm like you.
[26:17] Speaker 3: Just in general, I don't want to pay what I
[26:19] Speaker 3: call the historic premium for a player coming off a
[26:21] Speaker 3: season like Trey McBride where he outscored the second tight
[26:24] Speaker 3: end by, what, 105, 102 points or something ridiculous like that.
[26:28] Speaker 3: I didn't want to pay for that, but I felt
[26:30] Speaker 3: like the world saw it the same because Bowers was
[26:32] Speaker 3: going ahead of him. I kind of agree with all that.
[26:37] Speaker 3: Marvin Harrison Jr. has kind of been lost to me.
[26:40] Speaker 3: I think Michael Wilson has been the guy I've been
[26:42] Speaker 3: focused on. He was cheaper in drafts. He was the
[26:44] Speaker 3: cheapest piece of this offense, not named Tyler Algier, of
[26:47] Speaker 3: the passing attack. There are concerns for me. Jacoby Brissett
[26:52] Speaker 3: doesn't get to go 1-11 this year.
[26:53] Speaker 4: Right.
[26:54] Speaker 3: You know, I mean, that's he's not going to get
[26:56] Speaker 3: that long of a leash. But, you know, the start
[26:58] Speaker 3: was great and maybe he's an ideal fit. But I
[27:00] Speaker 3: think Michael Wilson in that Z role, you know, the
[27:02] Speaker 3: Puka Nakua role seems like it's a it's a good
[27:05] Speaker 3: fit for him. And also the chemistry he has built
[27:08] Speaker 3: in with Brissette, you know, kind of sold me. But
[27:11] Speaker 3: I'm with the Jeremiah Love thing, though. I just thought
[27:13] Speaker 3: he was ridiculously high priced. I mean, running back 13 when,
[27:17] Speaker 3: you know, I mean, Tyler Algier.
[27:19] Speaker 4: Maybe they didn't know they were going to get Jeremiah
[27:21] Speaker 4: Love when they signed to Tyler Altier. But they've known
[27:23] Speaker 4: for a while.
[27:24] Speaker 3: And if you talk to the people who cover that
[27:26] Speaker 3: team on a daily basis, all of them will tell
[27:27] Speaker 3: you the same thing. Tyler Altier is not going away.
[27:30] Speaker 3: And we've heard it as recently as last week. Mike
[27:33] Speaker 3: LaFleur saying, yeah, I don't want any of my backs
[27:35] Speaker 3: getting all the carries. I mean, nobody needs to do that.
[27:38] Speaker 3: And so we're going to see a split. But that said,
[27:40] Speaker 3: I mean, when you watch Jeremiah Love– he is going
[27:43] Speaker 3: to be very good.
[27:43] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[27:44] Speaker 2: He looks very good.
[27:44] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[27:45] Speaker 5: Yeah.
[27:45] Speaker 4: He's going to be a very good player.
[27:46] Speaker 2: We've seen it.
[27:46] Speaker 1: Even, even Bijan Robinson rookie season had the really back 17.
[27:50] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[27:51] Speaker 2: Had very frustrating usage.
[27:52] Speaker 1: I mean, and we all just sat there and blamed
[27:54] Speaker 1: Arthur Smith, but you know, these guys, if you look
[27:57] Speaker 1: at history and you look at how rookie running backs
[28:00] Speaker 1: perform versus ADP expectation, it's gotten a little bit more
[28:03] Speaker 1: difficult for them to beat expectation because that expectation just
[28:06] Speaker 1: continues to be rising, right?
[28:08] Speaker 3: Clyde Edwards-Hilaire had the ADP rocket strapped to his backside.
[28:12] Speaker 4: Ashton Gentry last year. I mean, the list is long.
[28:14] Speaker 1: And I've done a lot of the rookie analysis and
[28:17] Speaker 1: it's very clear based on that analysis that wide receiver
[28:20] Speaker 1: is the position that you want to attack more from
[28:22] Speaker 1: a rookie perspective than running backs in season long because
[28:24] Speaker 1: those are the guys that are beating expectation. Whereas rookie
[28:27] Speaker 1: running backs to me are more neutral in totality. Like
[28:30] Speaker 1: when you look at how they've performed against expectation. It's
[28:33] Speaker 1: not that they're like bad picks, but they're just not
[28:35] Speaker 1: exceptionally good picks either.
[28:36] Speaker 2: So you don't need to seek out.
[28:38] Speaker 1: And I think oftentimes the way the market has, has
[28:40] Speaker 1: worked recent seasons is that you get kind of this
[28:43] Speaker 1: group thing, hive mind thing going. And I fell for
[28:46] Speaker 1: it a little bit from like a Travion Henderson perspective
[28:48] Speaker 1: last year, you know, and I told myself a story
[28:51] Speaker 1: that wasn't rational enough from like a receiving perspective with
[28:54] Speaker 1: Travion Henderson. And I've definitely learned my lesson there, but
[28:57] Speaker 1: I felt a similar way with, with Jeremiah love where
[28:59] Speaker 1: I'm like, I got to probably just draft Javante Williams
[29:03] Speaker 1: ahead of, you know, just get like a safer if
[29:05] Speaker 1: I'm going to go or even Brees Hall, right? If
[29:07] Speaker 1: I'm going to go, if I'm going to go that, yeah,
[29:09] Speaker 1: if I'm going to go that route, didn't really go
[29:11] Speaker 1: that route that frequently just because I wanted the wide
[29:13] Speaker 1: receivers in that three to five, round three to five range.
[29:16] Speaker 1: But it was, it was a very, it's a very
[29:18] Speaker 1: interesting team for me to follow because again, like, expectation wise.
[29:22] Speaker 1: I mean, even this week, they don't have a high
[29:23] Speaker 1: team total, you know.
[29:25] Speaker 2: Week in and week out.
[29:25] Speaker 1: We're going to see, yeah, we're going to see a
[29:27] Speaker 1: sub 20 point team total for Arizona. And yet they
[29:31] Speaker 1: had four guys going in the single digit rounds of
[29:33] Speaker 1: these drafts. And so, yeah, but I mean, to, to
[29:35] Speaker 1: your Michael Wilson point, you know, I was too low
[29:38] Speaker 1: on him probably. And, and I, I now like, I
[29:40] Speaker 1: like him straight. Like I had Marvin Harrison jr. Ranked
[29:42] Speaker 1: ahead of him.
[29:43] Speaker 2: This summer.
[29:44] Speaker 1: Not like I was drafting Marv though. Uh, but now
[29:47] Speaker 1: I have in my rest season rankings, I, I, I
[29:49] Speaker 1: made the switch, you know, I just, I don't want to,
[29:51] Speaker 1: I think there's going to be more of that rollercoaster
[29:53] Speaker 1: with Marv than there's going to be with Michael Wilson
[29:55] Speaker 1: more than likely, even though I do think blanket statement,
[29:58] Speaker 1: there's going to probably be the rollercoaster of the Arizona
[30:01] Speaker 1: Cardinals offense in general.
[30:02] Speaker 3: I think you just highlight something we all have to
[30:04] Speaker 3: do and we all have to be mindful of. I
[30:05] Speaker 3: wrote for Sports Illustrated back in the early 2000s and
[30:08] Speaker 3: Peter King was still there. And Peter King said, you know, like,
[30:10] Speaker 3: do you, someone asked, do you root for stories? And
[30:13] Speaker 3: he goes, or do you root for teams? He said, no,
[30:15] Speaker 3: we root for our stories. And we build these narratives.
[30:18] Speaker 3: I mentioned, you know, we tell ourselves these happy stories
[30:20] Speaker 3: and sad tales of woe to pick or not pick players.
[30:24] Speaker 3: The best analysts, best fantasy players are the ones who
[30:28] Speaker 3: know when it's time to divorce themselves from the narratives
[30:30] Speaker 3: they've so carefully crafted over time and they want to
[30:34] Speaker 3: dearly hold on to and root for you know patience
[30:37] Speaker 3: is a virtue but also there comes a point where
[30:39] Speaker 3: you just have to realize what you've said or what
[30:40] Speaker 3: you've done is wrong and it's not working and the
[30:43] Speaker 3: faster you acknowledge that and move past it and uh
[30:46] Speaker 3: the better off you're going to be uh when it
[30:48] Speaker 3: comes time for your playoff.
[30:50] Speaker 1: And admittedly, just from a human nature standpoint, it's a
[30:53] Speaker 1: lot easier for me to be like, yeah, I wasn't
[30:56] Speaker 1: really high on Marv entering the season, and so I
[30:58] Speaker 1: can bump him down even more because it's not like
[31:00] Speaker 1: I'm holding on.
[31:00] Speaker 2: I do think anyone listening to this should.
[31:03] Speaker 1: Understand that we're all people that are just people that have...
[31:07] Speaker 1: a mindset of, of course we want to be right.
[31:10] Speaker 1: You know, of course we're doing this and would love
[31:12] Speaker 1: to just get everything correct. And it's, it's not the
[31:14] Speaker 1: easiest thing to always detach yourself from that. You know, it's, it's,
[31:17] Speaker 1: it's not the simplest thing to just be like, Hey,
[31:20] Speaker 1: thousands of people that I'm talking to, I was really
[31:23] Speaker 1: wrong about this.
[31:23] Speaker 2: I'm a moron, you know, but you.
[31:25] Speaker 3: Have to, as a fantasy, you just, you have to,
[31:28] Speaker 3: I think, you know, I mean, you're so process driven
[31:30] Speaker 3: and I think that's the key. Like, We think of ourselves,
[31:33] Speaker 3: you know, we should think of ourselves as part of
[31:35] Speaker 3: the audience, right? Everyone in the audience has made the
[31:38] Speaker 3: same mistakes we have. They understand the mistakes. They are
[31:40] Speaker 3: not here to hammer us for them. What they're here
[31:43] Speaker 3: to do is to learn from the processes and how
[31:47] Speaker 3: we adjust and adapt and overcome when we're wrong. I
[31:50] Speaker 3: think it's just as important as being right all the time.
[31:52] Speaker 2: It's a great point.
[31:53] Speaker 4: Let's be right all the time. But, you know, I've
[31:54] Speaker 4: been doing this 35-ish years now, and here's what I've learned.
[31:58] Speaker 4: Predicting the future is tricky business. Yes.
[32:01] Speaker 2: Yes. Very tricky. That's profound though.
[32:04] Speaker 1: I mean, it's a really good point to make that
[32:06] Speaker 1: I've thought about this too, is like when you go
[32:08] Speaker 1: online and you see people that are like, why don't you,
[32:11] Speaker 1: not to me necessarily, but they'll say this to other
[32:14] Speaker 1: analysts and they'll scream and say.
[32:16] Speaker 2: Why are you only talking about the things that you
[32:18] Speaker 2: got right?
[32:18] Speaker 1: Or they appreciate when I go out on the show
[32:21] Speaker 1: and I'm like, hey, I was wrong about this thing.
[32:23] Speaker 1: And then I sit back and I'm like, why is
[32:26] Speaker 1: it that people are appreciating the humility of it, like,
[32:30] Speaker 1: should it really matter that much?
[32:31] Speaker 2: And I think there's two things going on.
[32:33] Speaker 1: One is that there are obnoxious analysts out there that
[32:36] Speaker 1: are just victory lapping all the time. And so naturally,
[32:38] Speaker 1: you know, you want to kind of hit back and
[32:39] Speaker 1: be like, this is really obnoxious and you got to
[32:41] Speaker 1: admit when you're wrong. But I think that the other
[32:43] Speaker 1: thing is what you just talked about, where people want
[32:46] Speaker 1: to hear where things kind of go south because then
[32:48] Speaker 1: you can get better.
[32:49] Speaker 2: And a good.
[32:49] Speaker 4: And why?
[32:50] Speaker 5: Yes.
[32:50] Speaker 3: Right.
[32:50] Speaker 1: And a great example of that is the, like the
[32:52] Speaker 1: Travian Henderson thing for me last year is like the
[32:56] Speaker 1: thing that I overstated last way too much with henderson
[32:59] Speaker 1: was this assumption that he would see a high target
[33:01] Speaker 1: share but then you look back and i remember halfway
[33:03] Speaker 1: through the season i went back and i did more
[33:04] Speaker 1: research and i'm like wait a second rookie running backs
[33:07] Speaker 1: just naturally just don't see high target shares like they
[33:09] Speaker 1: almost never see and that was the problem that i
[33:11] Speaker 1: had with jeremiah loves assumptions where they were like oh
[33:14] Speaker 1: he'll see a 13 target share because tyler algier doesn't
[33:16] Speaker 1: catch passes well it's like i mean he did tyler
[33:19] Speaker 1: algier was kind of a complete back.
[33:20] Speaker 2: Coming out of college and then he did by you
[33:22] Speaker 2: and stuff you know what i mean.
[33:23] Speaker 1: So like It wasn't as simple as, you know, and
[33:26] Speaker 1: I think I'm not saying that this is going to
[33:28] Speaker 1: go one way or another. I was I wasn't like
[33:30] Speaker 1: massively undervalued on love. I even have him on some teams.
[33:33] Speaker 1: But as you noted, when he would fall to the
[33:35] Speaker 1: right spot. But I do think that hearing that process,
[33:39] Speaker 1: that understanding of. of where things might have gone south.
[33:42] Speaker 1: That's why I do that episode on the things I
[33:44] Speaker 1: got wrong every single year, because I.
[33:46] Speaker 2: Want to get better. I want to be better for
[33:48] Speaker 2: people that are listening to the show.
[33:49] Speaker 1: Like I care about fantasy football and doing well for,
[33:52] Speaker 1: as an analyst for other people.
[33:54] Speaker 5: Right.
[33:54] Speaker 3: I think, you know, people do have like I'm on
[33:57] Speaker 3: the radio at 20 hours a week. I do live
[34:00] Speaker 3: streams and you're answering a lot of questions. You're giving
[34:01] Speaker 3: a lot of advice. I spend every Sunday curled up
[34:04] Speaker 3: in a little ball. You want your outcomes, you know,
[34:10] Speaker 3: all the advice you've given people. But, you know, a
[34:13] Speaker 3: couple of things just spinning off that right is, you know.
[34:16] Speaker 3: Being the first to say you're wrong before everyone else
[34:18] Speaker 3: gets a chance is probably your best course of action
[34:21] Speaker 3: in this business. But also using it to explain the why.
[34:26] Speaker 3: Here's what happened. And again, I mentioned at the top,
[34:30] Speaker 3: the right decisions don't always lead to the right outcomes.
[34:33] Speaker 3: It's part of the game. And the variance is something
[34:36] Speaker 3: you have to explain. The volatility is something you have
[34:38] Speaker 3: to explain to people. But I think when I think
[34:41] Speaker 3: about it and I answer questions, Many, many questions every week.
[34:44] Speaker 4: A lot of questions. And all of them are a
[34:47] Speaker 4: variation of one thing. Am I crazy too?
[34:50] Speaker 3: Like to some degree or another, right? The people are,
[34:53] Speaker 3: they want permission to do something that they feel is
[34:55] Speaker 3: risky or whatever. And you talk them through it, you know,
[34:58] Speaker 3: and I'm not saying, you know, no, that's a, well,
[35:00] Speaker 3: I will tell them when it's crazy because sometimes it is.
[35:02] Speaker 2: Sometimes it is, yeah.
[35:03] Speaker 3: Sometimes it is, but mostly, no, it's not crazy, but
[35:05] Speaker 3: here's what you need to happen. Here's what you're, when
[35:07] Speaker 3: you go with this, here's what you're expecting to happen.
[35:10] Speaker 3: Here's what the outcomes you need to make that thing happen.
[35:14] Speaker 4: And I think, you know, we should give our audience credit.
[35:18] Speaker 3: I've always felt this, like our audience feels like they
[35:21] Speaker 3: could do our job every bit as good as us,
[35:24] Speaker 3: were it not for some quirk of fate or something,
[35:26] Speaker 3: they probably would be.
[35:27] Speaker 4: And they maybe will be right.
[35:28] Speaker 3: I mean, if you're playing fantasy football and you're steeped
[35:30] Speaker 3: in the subject enough to be watching podcasts like this
[35:32] Speaker 3: or listening to me on the radio every day or
[35:34] Speaker 3: reading my work.
[35:35] Speaker 4: At Football Guys, you're an expert. Sorry. Just accept it,
[35:40] Speaker 4: you know? And, and that doesn't mean like, you know,
[35:42] Speaker 4: like we bounce ideas off each other. We're all out
[35:46] Speaker 4: there talking. What do you think about this? You know,
[35:47] Speaker 4: what do you think about that?
[35:48] Speaker 5: All right.
[35:49] Speaker 3: Am I too high here? You know, and you doing
[35:51] Speaker 3: the same thing with us is just basically the same
[35:53] Speaker 3: thing to me. So I think it's kind of all
[35:55] Speaker 3: a big community, but that, that whole notion that, that,
[35:58] Speaker 3: you know, you can be both right and wrong on
[36:01] Speaker 3: a single player in the same season. That's going to
[36:02] Speaker 3: be very helpful. It gives you all these hopes, you know,
[36:05] Speaker 3: like I'm not wrong yet.
[36:07] Speaker 2: Yes, yes, yes, exactly.
[36:09] Speaker 4: I do.
[36:09] Speaker 2: I do love the mantra though. Never wrong. Just early.
[36:11] Speaker 2: You know, that's, that's always a good one. That's always
[36:14] Speaker 2: the best.
[36:15] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[36:16] Speaker 1: All right, let's get into some individual players. So these
[36:18] Speaker 1: are these are players who performed.
[36:20] Speaker 2: Well in week one.
[36:22] Speaker 1: And I want to see where you're at with these
[36:24] Speaker 1: guys versus other players that might be considered close to
[36:28] Speaker 1: them in like rest of season rankings. Or, you know,
[36:31] Speaker 1: maybe you they were drafted ahead of these guys literally
[36:34] Speaker 1: two weeks ago. And then this one game might change
[36:37] Speaker 1: or you just felt this way before the season, but
[36:39] Speaker 1: it might have changed the way that you're viewing them now.
[36:41] Speaker 2: So Let's start with Jalen Coker.
[36:44] Speaker 1: And the first, the first player I want to compare
[36:46] Speaker 1: Jalen Coker to is Cortland Sutton.
[36:51] Speaker 4: So I have not been a Coker head until very recently.
[36:54] Speaker 4: I'm a newly minted.
[36:55] Speaker 2: Nice.
[36:56] Speaker 4: You're welcome. You're welcome.
[36:58] Speaker 3: And thank you for some of the input that I
[37:00] Speaker 3: got from you as a reader of the data dump.
[37:02] Speaker 3: I can tell you there was some information in there
[37:04] Speaker 3: this week that was great. But also before that, like,
[37:07] Speaker 3: you know, small victory lap, a mini victory lap, you know,
[37:09] Speaker 3: the pregame shows on Sirius did a couple hits and
[37:12] Speaker 3: on my show. I went with the Jalen Coker anytime
[37:16] Speaker 3: touchdown to plus 300.
[37:18] Speaker 4: Great matchup.
[37:19] Speaker 3: But I started looking at the numbers before that. I'm going,
[37:22] Speaker 3: what have I been missing here? Here's what I've been missing.
[37:23] Speaker 3: And the thing that you pointed out, of course, in
[37:25] Speaker 3: the data dump, 16 points per game going back to
[37:28] Speaker 3: the last eight games, including the playoffs. He's just been
[37:32] Speaker 3: a vital part of this offense. If you think Bryce
[37:35] Speaker 3: Young is taking a step forward, and he may. I mean,
[37:38] Speaker 3: he alternately steps forward and back pretty regularly. But it's
[37:42] Speaker 3: been two good games in a row now. We go
[37:44] Speaker 3: back to the Rams game. So that's a good sign.
[37:47] Speaker 3: But yeah, I'm in on Coker now.
[37:50] Speaker 4: And I think.
[37:51] Speaker 3: This is a tough one because I've been in on
[37:54] Speaker 3: Courtland Sutton and I don't want to overreact to the
[37:56] Speaker 3: week one devastation of this offense. And I think they'll
[38:00] Speaker 3: right the ship. But Jalen Waddell is there. I'm probably
[38:03] Speaker 3: going to stick with Sutton, but this one's very close
[38:05] Speaker 3: for me.
[38:06] Speaker 2: I think I'm Coker.
[38:07] Speaker 1: I mean, I think my rest season rankings have Coker
[38:09] Speaker 1: over Sutton. So that's you being close.
[38:11] Speaker 4: It's very close.
[38:12] Speaker 2: Yeah, totally get it. How about versus Marvin Harrison Jr.?
[38:15] Speaker 2: I feel like I know where.
[38:15] Speaker 4: This might go.
[38:16] Speaker 3: All day long.
[38:17] Speaker 4: Coker all day long. Okay. Marvin Harrison Jr. is dead
[38:20] Speaker 4: to me. I'm sorry.
[38:20] Speaker 2: And then here's another interesting one. What about Chris Godwin
[38:22] Speaker 2: versus Jalen Coker?
[38:23] Speaker 3: Man, I had a lot of high hopes for Chris Godwin.
[38:25] Speaker 3: I think Coker's probably the better play right now.
[38:28] Speaker 4: Okay.
[38:29] Speaker 3: Okay.
[38:29] Speaker 2: Let's move on to Isaiah Likely.
[38:32] Speaker 1: So first off, it's funny because Likely did this literally
[38:36] Speaker 1: a year ago, right?
[38:37] Speaker 4: He did. Exactly. Against Kansas City. Yeah.
[38:39] Speaker 5: Yeah.
[38:40] Speaker 1: The difference being obviously that you know, Mark Andrews was
[38:43] Speaker 1: there and there's another tight end that was sort of
[38:46] Speaker 1: in the way. You know, likely peripherals were definitely there
[38:49] Speaker 1: in week one. There's a lot of data. You know,
[38:51] Speaker 1: he was initially in the draft guide as a target.
[38:53] Speaker 1: I had to change it just because the market kind
[38:55] Speaker 1: of caught up and I was at Mark. Like I
[38:56] Speaker 1: have likely it just I wasn't like so far ahead
[38:59] Speaker 1: that I had to call him out. But if you
[39:01] Speaker 1: look at previous season's slot rate for tight ends and
[39:04] Speaker 1: previous season averaged at the target, but slot rate in particular,
[39:06] Speaker 1: there's a lot of predictive value in that. And Likely
[39:09] Speaker 1: obviously had a lot of that going for him. But
[39:11] Speaker 1: where are you at with Likely right now? And the
[39:12] Speaker 1: first guy I want you to compare him to is
[39:14] Speaker 1: Harold Fannin.
[39:15] Speaker 4: I'm in on Likely right now.
[39:17] Speaker 3: And part of this is everything you just said, but
[39:19] Speaker 3: also over the course of the summer, I will talk
[39:21] Speaker 3: to multiple beat writers. I probably talk to 10 or
[39:24] Speaker 3: 15 beat writers every week. one-on-one, and get to ask
[39:27] Speaker 3: them the questions I want. And every Giants beat writer
[39:30] Speaker 3: I talk to said, man, the connection here, you guys
[39:32] Speaker 3: are going to go nuts over with Dart and Likely.
[39:35] Speaker 3: And maybe Malik Navers, as he gets up to speed,
[39:37] Speaker 3: will be a limiting factor at some point.
[39:39] Speaker 4: That wouldn't surprise me.
[39:40] Speaker 3: But thinking that Isaiah Likely is the second-leading receiver on
[39:45] Speaker 3: this team is probably– pretty reasonable approach.
[39:47] Speaker 4: I like him an awful lot.
[39:48] Speaker 3: I feel I have way more confidence in his situation
[39:51] Speaker 3: than I do in Harold Fannin's right now. Harold Fannin's
[39:53] Speaker 3: a great player, maybe a better player than Isaiah, likely,
[39:56] Speaker 3: but he's not in a better situation.
[39:57] Speaker 4: Right now, I'm back. I'm dialed back on him.
[39:59] Speaker 1: Yeah, look, I don't know Isaiah Likely's mom, and I
[40:02] Speaker 1: did meet Harold Fannin's mom last year at the Fantasy
[40:04] Speaker 1: Football Expo.
[40:05] Speaker 2: So if I were to power rank moms, I would
[40:07] Speaker 2: be putting Harold Fannin's.
[40:09] Speaker 1: Mom ahead of Likely's. I do have Isaiah Likely ahead
[40:11] Speaker 1: of Harold Fannin rest of the season. How about Dallas Goddard,
[40:14] Speaker 1: who also had.
[40:15] Speaker 2: A great week one versus Isaiah Likely?
[40:17] Speaker 4: Yes, Isaiah Likely ahead of Dallas Goddard. Dallas Goddard, you know,
[40:20] Speaker 4: his 2025 was built on a.
[40:23] Speaker 3: On a pile of unexpected touchdowns and maybe it happens again,
[40:26] Speaker 3: but I'm not betting on that.
[40:27] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[40:28] Speaker 2: Washington's also been horrible, horrible against tight ends. All right, then.
[40:32] Speaker 2: All right.
[40:32] Speaker 1: We're going to, we're going to take a step up
[40:33] Speaker 1: then Tyler Warren versus Isaiah.
[40:36] Speaker 4: Likely.
[40:37] Speaker 3: I'm probably going to stick with Tyler Warren, but it's a,
[40:39] Speaker 3: it's a harder decision than it should be.
[40:41] Speaker 2: Yeah, it is.
[40:42] Speaker 4: It is.
[40:42] Speaker 1: No, I'm not, I don't disagree, especially, you know, you
[40:45] Speaker 1: get Alec Pierce looking healthy, like, you know, he had
[40:48] Speaker 1: a limited snap share, but he was still getting better.
[40:50] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[40:50] Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean, there's a lot of players there that
[40:52] Speaker 2: they got to, got to get the ball to with
[40:54] Speaker 2: Keenan Allen there now.
[40:55] Speaker 3: So they don't got to get the ball to Keenan
[40:57] Speaker 3: Allen or Josh Downs. I mean, they can, but they
[41:00] Speaker 3: don't have to, it's going to be with the money.
[41:02] Speaker 3: He tells us it's going down at Pierce for sure.
[41:04] Speaker 3: That's another one of those where the desired outcome is,
[41:06] Speaker 3: is painfully clear because michael pitman is not there and
[41:09] Speaker 3: and alex pierce is very rich and if you have
[41:12] Speaker 3: hopes for this offense though i think part of what
[41:15] Speaker 3: needs to happen here is we need to see some
[41:17] Speaker 3: semblance of the offense we saw last year when daniel
[41:19] Speaker 3: jones was healthy i think the first eight games he
[41:21] Speaker 3: averaged what 32 points a game uh and it slid
[41:23] Speaker 3: down you know after the fibula thing to 28 points
[41:26] Speaker 3: and it was still good jonathan taylor was running back
[41:29] Speaker 3: two during.
[41:30] Speaker 4: That first stretch.
[41:32] Speaker 3: And Warren was tight end four when that offense was
[41:35] Speaker 3: hitting on all cylinders. I'd like to give that a
[41:37] Speaker 3: chance to see if it could happen again. But it's, again,
[41:39] Speaker 3: closer than it should be.
[41:40] Speaker 2: Yeah, no, no, I'm with you.
[41:42] Speaker 1: I have Tyler Warren ahead of likely, but it is,
[41:44] Speaker 1: it is, uh, you know, likely definitely like, it's one
[41:47] Speaker 1: of those things where there are players like Parker Washington's
[41:50] Speaker 1: another one.
[41:50] Speaker 2: Well, actually we can talk about him right now.
[41:52] Speaker 1: Parker Washington's on this list, but Parker Washington's one of
[41:55] Speaker 1: those players where, you know, I was high on him
[41:57] Speaker 1: entering the season, you know, ahead of market. I really
[41:59] Speaker 1: liked what, you know, there were trends that definitely favored
[42:02] Speaker 1: what he did second half of last year and how
[42:04] Speaker 1: that translates the next year.
[42:05] Speaker 4: All of that. Right.
[42:07] Speaker 1: But yeah, When you look at my rest of season rankings,
[42:10] Speaker 1: he saw a big jump from where he was in
[42:12] Speaker 1: my redraft rankings.
[42:13] Speaker 2: And some might call that irrational.
[42:16] Speaker 1: But to me, it's sort of like a more obvious
[42:19] Speaker 1: extreme example than the Isaiah Likely one where we have
[42:22] Speaker 1: these ideas in our head of like, Okay, well, if
[42:24] Speaker 1: this thing happens, like if Jacksonville runs heavier, has heavier personnel,
[42:29] Speaker 1: more tight ends, fewer wide receivers on the field, but
[42:32] Speaker 1: Parker Washington is one of those wide receivers that's not
[42:34] Speaker 1: rotating out as much, then all of a sudden you
[42:36] Speaker 1: can see a wide receiver one season happening for Parker Washington, right?
[42:41] Speaker 1: From a usage standpoint in week one, we more or
[42:43] Speaker 1: less saw that happen. You know, they ran so heavy.
[42:46] Speaker 1: They had a lot of two tight, like a lot
[42:47] Speaker 1: more two or fewer wide receivers on the field. And
[42:50] Speaker 1: then Washington did his thing. So I'm curious if you
[42:53] Speaker 1: feel the same way about like, you know, making that
[42:55] Speaker 1: jump based on one game because the priors were at
[42:58] Speaker 1: least there and you just wanted to year over year
[43:00] Speaker 1: confirmation to some degree or if you are still a
[43:03] Speaker 1: little bit like just a little bit worse understandably so
[43:06] Speaker 1: like it's it's still risky to be like all in
[43:09] Speaker 1: on Parker Washington there's still a risk involved in doing
[43:11] Speaker 1: that but to me I was pleasantly surprised not surprised
[43:16] Speaker 1: pleasantly satisfied, let's say, by what happened in week one.
[43:20] Speaker 4: All of that, yes. And all the, you know, the
[43:22] Speaker 4: role going.
[43:23] Speaker 3: Back to last year is super important, but also the
[43:25] Speaker 3: things I've been hearing all summer long. Of course, my
[43:28] Speaker 3: co-host on Sirius, Mike Dempsey, is in the building. He's
[43:30] Speaker 3: working there every day. If you wanted to draft Parker
[43:33] Speaker 3: Washington and you draft with Mike Dempsey, you better get
[43:36] Speaker 3: up early, kids.
[43:38] Speaker 4: He's been all over.
[43:39] Speaker 3: And I think the guys that cover, you know, the
[43:41] Speaker 3: group of people to cover the team has been all
[43:43] Speaker 3: on this as well. Look, this is an ascended offense.
[43:46] Speaker 3: We saw last year Trevor Lawrence dominate the last eight
[43:49] Speaker 3: games of the season. He's quarterback one. He has all
[43:51] Speaker 3: the pieces, but he doesn't seem to agree with all
[43:54] Speaker 3: of them. So Brian Thomas jr. So Parker Washington, to me,
[43:57] Speaker 3: it looks like the guy that they've been trying to pay.
[44:00] Speaker 3: All the signs are there.
[44:01] Speaker 4: Everything.
[44:01] Speaker 3: The numbers that you mentioned, all the narratives tie it together.
[44:05] Speaker 3: I think he's right there. I'm just curious.
[44:06] Speaker 4: Where do you have him in your rest of season rankings?
[44:08] Speaker 1: I think he's like a high end wide receiver too,
[44:10] Speaker 1: right now, like in that like 14 area for me
[44:12] Speaker 1: or something like that.
[44:14] Speaker 3: So I was going to, you know, we're going to
[44:16] Speaker 3: talk bold predictions here, I know. So my bold prediction
[44:18] Speaker 3: was Parker Washington wide receiver one at the end of
[44:20] Speaker 3: the season. I'm going to let that go. I'm going
[44:22] Speaker 3: to throw it out now and do a different one.
[44:25] Speaker 3: But I think that's possible. I truly believe that he
[44:28] Speaker 3: is capable of that in this offense, right?
[44:31] Speaker 4: Right.
[44:31] Speaker 3: That's part of the equation is look at where this
[44:33] Speaker 3: offense is going, where it's been and where it's going.
[44:36] Speaker 3: It seems to still be on the rise and Liam
[44:39] Speaker 3: Cohen in year two. I mean, they're just tweaking, fine tuning,
[44:42] Speaker 3: getting things better.
[44:42] Speaker 4: I like a lot of what I see there.
[44:44] Speaker 3: All right.
[44:45] Speaker 1: So then I'll ask you a few players of who
[44:47] Speaker 1: you would like, you know, Parker Washington versus this guy.
[44:49] Speaker 2: We'll start with Garrett Wilson.
[44:51] Speaker 4: I still like Garrett Wilson more.
[44:53] Speaker 2: Okay. How about Devante Smith?
[44:55] Speaker 4: Probably still Devante Smith.
[44:58] Speaker 2: And then here's one that, That will break people's brains.
[45:02] Speaker 2: Drake London.
[45:04] Speaker 4: I'll take right now Parker Washington.
[45:06] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[45:08] Speaker 3: Until Michael Penix is back in the mix, until we
[45:10] Speaker 3: see Michael Penix play, once Michael Penix is back in,
[45:13] Speaker 3: what we saw last year over the nine games they
[45:15] Speaker 3: played together was phenomenal.
[45:17] Speaker 2: Exactly.
[45:18] Speaker 4: Right? The workload. I talked about it at the top.
[45:22] Speaker 4: What are we drafting? Well, we're drafting roles and volume.
[45:25] Speaker 3: That's Drake London with Michael Penix is the epitome of
[45:28] Speaker 3: roles and volume for a wide receiver. So, yeah, it'll
[45:31] Speaker 3: be Drake London– If when Michael Penix is back, you know,
[45:36] Speaker 3: we're still mad at Anthony Richardson for tapping his helmet.
[45:38] Speaker 4: And I just heard Michael Penix telling me, yeah, I'm
[45:40] Speaker 4: not right. I'm not quite ready yet, coach. No, not yet.
[45:43] Speaker 1: I remember doing some looking into the splits with Michael
[45:48] Speaker 1: Penix and Drake London last year on like a per
[45:50] Speaker 1: route run basis and such.
[45:51] Speaker 2: And it's actually just wild.
[45:53] Speaker 1: It is how insane Drake London has been with Michael
[45:56] Speaker 1: Penix and without Michael Penix throughout his career.
[45:58] Speaker 2: Like it's just, it's literally night and day.
[46:01] Speaker 1: So we are, if you, if you're a Drake London
[46:03] Speaker 1: bag holder, if you have them on your team, you
[46:05] Speaker 1: gotta be just crossing your fingers and praying to the
[46:07] Speaker 1: fantasy football gods that Michael Penix is able to play
[46:10] Speaker 1: sooner rather than later.
[46:10] Speaker 2: Cause it makes a dramatic, dramatic difference.
[46:13] Speaker 1: But yeah, like looking at my rest season rankings right now,
[46:15] Speaker 1: I have a Parker Washington sitting at wide receiver and 14.
[46:22] Speaker 2: Rest of season.
[46:22] Speaker 1: He's right below Devante Smith. I do have, I have
[46:26] Speaker 1: him over Garrett Wilson rest of season.
[46:27] Speaker 2: Okay.
[46:28] Speaker 4: Fair. Yeah.
[46:29] Speaker 1: If you want to be even more bullish in that,
[46:31] Speaker 1: totally understand if you're a little bit scared, like I
[46:33] Speaker 1: think this can go in a lot of different directions.
[46:34] Speaker 1: I just, I'm at the point where I'm believing in
[46:36] Speaker 1: the talent and believing in what we're seeing.
[46:37] Speaker 3: See, I have a problem, and everyone who listens to
[46:40] Speaker 3: me knows this. If you're not going to make me
[46:41] Speaker 3: write down the list and show it to you, I'm
[46:43] Speaker 3: going to fit 30 guys in my top 12.
[46:45] Speaker 2: Yeah, right, right, exactly. Yes, exactly.
[46:48] Speaker 1: That's when people come back and they're like, why do
[46:50] Speaker 1: you have this guy ranked right here? And I'm like, well,
[46:51] Speaker 1: tell me who you want to have ranked ahead or
[46:53] Speaker 1: below him. Right, there's only that many spots.
[46:55] Speaker 4: I can't do it.
[46:56] Speaker 2: Right, right. How about David Montgomery?
[47:00] Speaker 1: So you mentioned him a little bit earlier, so I'm
[47:02] Speaker 1: curious where you're at with Montgomery, and then we'll talk
[47:05] Speaker 1: about some other guys to compare him to.
[47:07] Speaker 4: I've been all in.
[47:07] Speaker 3: The day that they traded for him, I wrote, he's
[47:09] Speaker 3: a solid running back, too, with running back one weeks.
[47:13] Speaker 3: built into the built-in because there's going to be red
[47:15] Speaker 3: zone luck and we saw it week one i don't
[47:17] Speaker 3: think any of that changes there was a brief period
[47:19] Speaker 3: so the narrative was built all off season and man
[47:21] Speaker 3: they are building this offense a smash mouth offense around
[47:25] Speaker 3: montgomery a guy they think can do it all as
[47:28] Speaker 3: a receiver as well as a runner and uh and
[47:31] Speaker 3: they're going to lean into that defense and all those
[47:33] Speaker 3: things then we got a little bit of a a
[47:35] Speaker 3: little bit of a woody mark spike there in late
[47:37] Speaker 3: august and it made people nervous i don't know if
[47:39] Speaker 3: it I'm trying to remember if it dropped in Montgomery's
[47:42] Speaker 3: ADP a little. He was pretty steady around running back
[47:44] Speaker 3: 19 or 20. I felt like that was a really
[47:47] Speaker 3: good price for him. Not a huge discount, but about
[47:49] Speaker 3: the right price. And you would probably have weeks where
[47:51] Speaker 3: you felt like you really got a great deal. I
[47:54] Speaker 3: think that's right where he's at.
[47:55] Speaker 5: Yeah.
[47:55] Speaker 1: I mean, look, every week for my draft guide, I
[47:57] Speaker 1: would pull my rankings versus ADP, right? So consensus ADP,
[48:01] Speaker 1: I'd take it from ESPN to yahoo and cbs and
[48:05] Speaker 1: then that would kind of dictate if i should call
[48:07] Speaker 1: out a guy as a target or avoid and every
[48:11] Speaker 1: week i'm like why is david montgomery like rb25 on
[48:14] Speaker 1: this platform or why is he you know like it
[48:16] Speaker 1: was a little bizarre because even if you weren't overly
[48:19] Speaker 1: bullish on the talent or over it was very clear
[48:21] Speaker 1: there was at least some situation there i am you
[48:23] Speaker 1: know he did see like week one woody marks did
[48:25] Speaker 1: play a decent amount of snaps to be fair but
[48:28] Speaker 1: it does seem like you know montgomery's gonna at least
[48:30] Speaker 1: be the goal line guy and like you said we
[48:32] Speaker 1: should feel good about just their general philosophy so let's
[48:35] Speaker 1: go one by one here david montgomery versus travis hn
[48:38] Speaker 1: in week one or the artist formerly known as etn
[48:42] Speaker 1: If they're going.
[48:42] Speaker 3: To turn this into a three-way split, and the great
[48:46] Speaker 3: Kendrick Miller, let's not overlook the great Kendrick Miller.
[48:49] Speaker 4: The Saints told us what they wanted. Yeah. with $ 13
[48:52] Speaker 4: million a year over the next four years for Travis A.
[48:54] Speaker 3: Chan. They're not acting like that. But also I had
[48:57] Speaker 3: concerns coming in. That was not a good run blocking
[48:59] Speaker 3: unit last year. And Travis A. Chan, whatever success he's had,
[49:03] Speaker 3: like he's not a powerful guy. He's not like a
[49:06] Speaker 3: bulldozer at the goal.
[49:09] Speaker 4: Line, any of those things. So I have concerns here.
[49:12] Speaker 4: I would probably feel more comfortable with the consistency of
[49:15] Speaker 4: David Montgomery.
[49:16] Speaker 5: Yep.
[49:16] Speaker 2: I have Montgomery ahead right now too. This one's more
[49:18] Speaker 2: difficult for me.
[49:20] Speaker 4: Me.
[49:20] Speaker 2: Bucky Irving versus David Montgomery.
[49:23] Speaker 4: After week one. So it's funny because I was not
[49:26] Speaker 4: drafting Bucky Irving.
[49:26] Speaker 1: I wasn't very high on Irving either. That was probably
[49:28] Speaker 1: one of my big... If I'm looking back at like...
[49:31] Speaker 1: I made him a soft fade. He wasn't a hard
[49:34] Speaker 1: fade for me, but I had him in the same
[49:36] Speaker 1: tier with Montgomery and stuff, but I was concerned.
[49:39] Speaker 2: The only thing that I'm still waiting to see is
[49:41] Speaker 2: what happens when Sean Tucker's active.
[49:43] Speaker 4: Correct. There's a three-way split there. We'll see.
[49:46] Speaker 3: It was a great matchup week one, though. I know
[49:48] Speaker 3: the Bengals made all kinds of improvements and added the
[49:51] Speaker 3: middle of the defensive line, Allen and Lawrence and all that, but...
[49:54] Speaker 3: But still, last year was one of the most generous
[49:57] Speaker 3: defenses to running backs. And so I feel like maybe
[50:00] Speaker 3: Bucky Irving caught a break. So I was out on
[50:02] Speaker 3: him in draft season. But I do a weekly call
[50:05] Speaker 3: him in and out where I try and leverage the
[50:07] Speaker 3: projections and pick guys to overperform. And he was one
[50:10] Speaker 3: of the guys I picked to overperform because of the matchup.
[50:13] Speaker 3: And the early season, I think he can handle it.
[50:15] Speaker 3: And again, I'm not one of those people who says, oh,
[50:18] Speaker 3: 200-pound running backs can't. Can't be great. Jameer Gibbs would
[50:21] Speaker 3: argue they can. And so Bucky Irvin's rookie year would
[50:24] Speaker 3: stay the same. But he's like, what, 192 pounds? Is
[50:27] Speaker 3: he built for that full load? And so they bring
[50:29] Speaker 3: in these other– bring in Kenneth Gainwell.
[50:33] Speaker 2: Who was what?
[50:34] Speaker 4: Running back seven from week 11 on last year. I mean,
[50:38] Speaker 4: you know, he was pretty, pretty productive player. It hadn't
[50:41] Speaker 4: been before that.
[50:42] Speaker 3: So I get it, but, but yeah, I had lots
[50:44] Speaker 3: of reasons to dial back, but I think week to week,
[50:46] Speaker 3: there are going to be huge games for Bucky Irving
[50:47] Speaker 3: when the matchup favors them and maybe the circumstances, but
[50:50] Speaker 3: in general, I feel like David Montgomery would be again,
[50:53] Speaker 3: the more consistent play.
[50:55] Speaker 1: And then I'm really curious about your take based on
[50:56] Speaker 1: what we talked about earlier with Jeremiah love versus David Montgomery.
[51:00] Speaker 4: I think, you know, here i'll fall back on that
[51:04] Speaker 4: well it depends on your roster construction there.
[51:06] Speaker 5: You go the fantasy analyst cop out baby uh talking
[51:12] Speaker 5: to some of the people howard balzer has been covering
[51:14] Speaker 5: the nfl for a thousand years like me and talked
[51:17] Speaker 5: to him a fair amount and you know like he
[51:18] Speaker 5: said at some point he said yes there's going to
[51:20] Speaker 5: be tyler out here but but jeremiah love is is
[51:23] Speaker 5: a different level it's like something uh vinnie bonce young york.
[51:26] Speaker 4: Told me about when when when uh.
[51:29] Speaker 3: Ashton Genting got hurt. Mike Washington is not Ashton Genting, right?
[51:32] Speaker 3: So there are players that are a different level. David
[51:35] Speaker 3: Montgomery is not Jeremiah Love. He's not at that tier.
[51:39] Speaker 3: I think the roles are what sets them apart. So
[51:41] Speaker 3: this one's really close to me. I'm probably still going
[51:43] Speaker 3: to lean Montgomery for now until I see the roles
[51:46] Speaker 3: normalize for Love and see where he ends up.
[51:49] Speaker 2: Yeah, I think all three are interesting. I would rank
[51:52] Speaker 2: the four that we said just for additional context because
[51:56] Speaker 2: I do think it's just interesting. There's no right answer here.
[51:59] Speaker 1: I would go love Irving-Montgomery-A-Chan with Irving and Bucky and
[52:04] Speaker 1: Montgomery being very, very close.
[52:07] Speaker 4: I think that's good rest of season.
[52:09] Speaker 3: I'm thinking more in the moment and probably that's skewing
[52:11] Speaker 3: me a little bit because I feel more comfortable with
[52:13] Speaker 3: where Montgomery's at in the moment. But looking, if I
[52:16] Speaker 3: step back, I think you probably have it about right.
[52:19] Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, for sure.
[52:20] Speaker 1: All right, let's do quickly. We already talked about Chuba Hubbard,
[52:22] Speaker 1: but I am curious if you would go. Let's look
[52:25] Speaker 1: at this from a rest of season lens. Chuba or
[52:29] Speaker 1: Blake Corum?
[52:31] Speaker 4: Chuba.
[52:31] Speaker 2: Okay, Chuba or Quinshawn Judkins?
[52:36] Speaker 4: Chuba.
[52:37] Speaker 2: Chuba or Jadarian Price?
[52:40] Speaker 5: Uh.
[52:41] Speaker 4: At some point, I mean, does he not get some
[52:43] Speaker 4: goal line? Does he not work?
[52:45] Speaker 3: At some point, does George Alani become less a thing
[52:48] Speaker 3: in those situations?
[52:50] Speaker 4: I would like to lean Price here.
[52:52] Speaker 1: Yeah, I would lean Price there, too. I think the
[52:53] Speaker 1: Judkins one is interesting. It's close. Yeah, I'm probably Judkins
[52:57] Speaker 1: just because there's the hope of that belt. I'm still
[53:01] Speaker 1: worried about Jonathan Brooks digging into Chuba Hubbard's workload. You know,
[53:04] Speaker 1: like I still think that could be a thing.
[53:05] Speaker 5: All right.
[53:06] Speaker 1: And then the last one is DeAndre Swift, who also
[53:08] Speaker 1: had a big week one game. So we'll go DeAndre
[53:11] Speaker 1: Swift versus Kyron Williams.
[53:13] Speaker 3: DeAndre Swift over the world. No, that's a very close one.
[53:15] Speaker 3: I mean, so I'm a huge DeAndre Swift guy. I've
[53:17] Speaker 3: been howling about the prospects all year. And realizing last
[53:23] Speaker 3: year was, again, another performance, a running back 14 performance,
[53:27] Speaker 3: heavily reliant on touchdowns.
[53:30] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[53:30] Speaker 3: Glad that he got three to start the season. But
[53:32] Speaker 3: I feel like there's room for more for him as
[53:35] Speaker 3: a receiver. If you look back to his last year
[53:38] Speaker 3: in Detroit with Ben Johnson, he had 70-ish targets, I
[53:41] Speaker 3: want to say. If they can bump that number up
[53:43] Speaker 3: again this year and also let him run, I think
[53:45] Speaker 3: he's going to have a very good season. So I'm
[53:48] Speaker 3: probably pushing the envelope on this one and overstating the
[53:50] Speaker 3: case here if I say Swift.
[53:53] Speaker 4: So I will say not Swift.
[53:54] Speaker 1: Okay, how about Swift or Brees Hall then?
[53:58] Speaker 4: I've been in a breeze halls. Another one there. They're
[54:00] Speaker 4: so dead. I think I had them 13 and 14
[54:02] Speaker 4: coming into the season.
[54:03] Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean, yeah, probably.
[54:06] Speaker 1: What about, what about Amari and Hampton versus Deandre Swift?
[54:09] Speaker 1: Are you, are you panicking hitting that panic button with,
[54:12] Speaker 1: with Hampton after one week?
[54:14] Speaker 3: Again, I don't want to believe that Tyler Biatis is
[54:16] Speaker 3: the key to anybody's entire finish. So I think they'll
[54:20] Speaker 3: get things straightened out. But there's reasons for concern there.
[54:23] Speaker 3: You know, part of the concern with Swift is obviously
[54:26] Speaker 3: Kyle Monongai. And they're probably getting into games where they
[54:28] Speaker 3: throw the ball a heck of a lot. I hope
[54:30] Speaker 3: he still has a role in there. I'd probably lean
[54:32] Speaker 3: Hampton here, too.
[54:33] Speaker 2: All right. A few more things before I let you go.
[54:36] Speaker 1: I want a buy candidate and a sell candidate for
[54:39] Speaker 1: you from you after one week of games.
[54:43] Speaker 3: I don't like to sell anybody. I'm like not an
[54:45] Speaker 3: early season mover. If I was selling right now, I'd
[54:48] Speaker 3: probably be selling like maybe a Chuba Hubbard if I
[54:51] Speaker 3: thought I could get away with it or Bucky Irving.
[54:53] Speaker 4: One of the ambiguous backs that really succeeded.
[54:56] Speaker 1: Chuba was the sell on 15 transactions this week. So
[54:58] Speaker 1: I'm with you.
[54:59] Speaker 4: I haven't read that yet, but it's in my inbox.
[55:01] Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[55:02] Speaker 2: So I agree. I agree with the Chuba.
[55:04] Speaker 1: Is there anyone that you would aggressively be buying right now?
[55:08] Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm probably going to be aggressively buying... If someone's
[55:12] Speaker 4: willing to give up on Jalen Waddle, I'll be looking
[55:15] Speaker 4: for guys like that. I think the Denver offense is
[55:16] Speaker 4: going to be way better than it ended up. J.K.
[55:18] Speaker 3: Dobbins is a guy that I've been in on all year.
[55:20] Speaker 3: I think they're going to run the ball better. I
[55:22] Speaker 3: still think he's the lead piece there. I don't know
[55:23] Speaker 3: that I'm going to be out actively trying to acquire him,
[55:26] Speaker 3: but I don't have concerns. I would be trying to
[55:28] Speaker 3: acquire a Waddle, however. And anybody in Los Angeles, if
[55:32] Speaker 3: anyone gets nervous... and drops anybody in Los Angeles, Clinton
[55:35] Speaker 3: Johnston would be like, I would love to be able
[55:37] Speaker 3: to pick up Clinton Johnston.
[55:38] Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah.
[55:39] Speaker 2: I like those call-outs.
[55:40] Speaker 4: All right.
[55:41] Speaker 1: One more thing. Give me a bold prediction. It could
[55:45] Speaker 1: be moving forward or just for week two. You know,
[55:48] Speaker 1: dealer's choice here.
[55:48] Speaker 3: It was, well, Parker Washington and wide receiver one week
[55:51] Speaker 3: two for sure, but probably for the rest of the season.
[55:53] Speaker 4: But I already kind of said that one. So I'm
[55:55] Speaker 4: going to go with Matthew Golden leading the Green Bay
[55:56] Speaker 4: Packers in receptions this year.
[55:58] Speaker 2: I love that.
[55:59] Speaker 1: I mean, I, I feel like I've been out. So
[56:01] Speaker 1: my journey with Matthew Golden has been very interesting. I wasn't,
[56:03] Speaker 1: wasn't really, you know, I was maybe like at market
[56:06] Speaker 1: with him or so during draft season. So I have
[56:08] Speaker 1: him on some teams, not like overwhelmingly. So I didn't
[56:10] Speaker 1: really like him as a prospect coming out for sure.
[56:13] Speaker 1: So I wasn't really high on him last year. But
[56:15] Speaker 1: that week one, I'm very high on the Packers passing it.
[56:18] Speaker 2: They can't run block at all.
[56:20] Speaker 1: And obviously they have less of a rotation with their
[56:22] Speaker 1: wide receivers. Jordan Love is a good quarterback. He's been
[56:25] Speaker 1: really good in like EPA per play and such over
[56:27] Speaker 1: the last couple of years. I just think there's a
[56:28] Speaker 1: very real chance we see more volume and passing volume
[56:31] Speaker 1: in that offense in general, Matthew Golden's usage in week one, his,
[56:34] Speaker 1: we have a expected fantasy points formula that Brandon Gadula
[56:38] Speaker 1: had built for late round fantasy football. Matthew Golden's expected
[56:42] Speaker 1: PPR points in week one was second at wide receiver
[56:45] Speaker 1: behind only Aminra St.
[56:46] Speaker 4: Brown.
[56:47] Speaker 1: And it's wild. I'm doing my weekly rankings. I'm like
[56:50] Speaker 1: 10 wide receiver spots ahead of the market with Matthew golden,
[56:52] Speaker 1: my rest of season rankings. I think he's like a
[56:54] Speaker 1: firm high end wide receiver three right now, if not.
[56:57] Speaker 4: Higher, you know, I'm thinking a wide receiver too. Yeah. Yeah.
[57:01] Speaker 1: I mean like when you look at like where, cause
[57:03] Speaker 1: like right now in my, my rest of season, like
[57:06] Speaker 1: I have him right next to like Devante Adams, Roma Dunzey,
[57:10] Speaker 1: you know, like, in that area of wide receivers, pretty deep.
[57:14] Speaker 1: So it's, you know, it's tough to like really push
[57:17] Speaker 1: them up into like the, the, the legit, you know,
[57:19] Speaker 1: like the, like I saw a waddle ahead of them
[57:21] Speaker 1: for instance, and such, but I.
[57:22] Speaker 4: Like to say wide receiver gives us room for error, right?
[57:24] Speaker 3: Like, you know, it is so deep that if you
[57:26] Speaker 3: miss on a guy, there's going to be someone there
[57:28] Speaker 3: to pick up the slack.
[57:29] Speaker 4: But I don't like, I don't think we're missing on
[57:31] Speaker 4: love or golden.
[57:33] Speaker 3: And I think, you know, again, listening to talking to
[57:36] Speaker 3: the beat writers there, this was something that they like, three,
[57:40] Speaker 3: four different beat writers all said the same thing independently,
[57:42] Speaker 3: just asking, who's going to leave this team and receive it?
[57:44] Speaker 4: It's going to be Matthew Golden.
[57:46] Speaker 3: And I like, if I thought there was a quarterback
[57:48] Speaker 3: in Cleveland, I would be super edgy and say something
[57:52] Speaker 3: really cool about Denzel Boston.
[57:54] Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[57:54] Speaker 1: I mean, I still think that him and Concepcion could
[57:57] Speaker 1: be fine from a volume standpoint if they hit those
[57:59] Speaker 1: negative game scripts pretty frequently.
[58:00] Speaker 2: So we'll see there.
[58:01] Speaker 1: But yeah, the Golden stuff was interesting preseason because it
[58:06] Speaker 1: was very clear he was going to get an opportunity, right?
[58:08] Speaker 1: A chance to, prove it and the priors that i
[58:11] Speaker 1: had were he didn't do anything year one he didn't
[58:14] Speaker 1: look very great in year one either and his prospect
[58:17] Speaker 1: profile wasn't very strong and it's very rare to see
[58:19] Speaker 1: that kind of profile then blow up in year two
[58:22] Speaker 1: and like really you know ironically we did see it
[58:24] Speaker 1: from like the kind of like a davante adams kind
[58:27] Speaker 1: of trajectory right where it was just like horrible at
[58:29] Speaker 1: first and then It kind of comes together. It really
[58:32] Speaker 1: came together for him. And so typically we don't see
[58:35] Speaker 1: this profile do well, nine out of 10 times, you know,
[58:38] Speaker 1: maybe even 95 out of a hundred times.
[58:42] Speaker 2: But at the same time, it was very clear he
[58:43] Speaker 2: was going to get that shot.
[58:45] Speaker 4: Right.
[58:45] Speaker 3: And this is where we get to factor in what
[58:47] Speaker 3: the team's desired outcome.
[58:48] Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly.
[58:49] Speaker 3: Told us last year when they drafted him in the
[58:51] Speaker 3: first round, something they hadn't done with a wide receiver
[58:53] Speaker 3: in my entire adult lifetime.
[58:54] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[58:55] Speaker 5: Yeah.
[58:56] Speaker 1: So, you know, it's a, it's a, a player that
[58:59] Speaker 1: I didn't think I'd be sitting. I, every show I
[59:01] Speaker 1: feel like this week, I've said something about guys, this Matthew.
[59:05] Speaker 2: Golden thing looks like it's for real.
[59:07] Speaker 4: It is for real.
[59:07] Speaker 1: The market is not reacting in a way where it's
[59:11] Speaker 1: for real. And I'm very bullish on what... I mean,
[59:14] Speaker 1: I loved Christian Watson entering the year. It was way
[59:17] Speaker 1: higher than marking on him. But... The golden stuff looks
[59:19] Speaker 1: like it's very, very legitimate. So I love that you
[59:22] Speaker 1: called him out. But Bob, this was great. I always
[59:24] Speaker 1: love chatting with you. You bring so much wisdom to
[59:26] Speaker 1: this show that lacks it. So if you could, let
[59:30] Speaker 1: everyone know where they can find you and all the
[59:31] Speaker 1: great stuff you're working on this season.
[59:33] Speaker 3: You can mostly find me reading J.J. Zacharyson's work. I'm
[59:37] Speaker 3: an avid consumer.
[59:38] Speaker 4: You can catch me.
[59:39] Speaker 3: Well, you can't miss me on Sirius XM Radio. I'm
[59:42] Speaker 3: on Fantasy Radio, Monday through Friday, 8 to 10, Sunday morning,
[59:45] Speaker 3: the pregame show, 11 to 1 with Jeff Manns. Saturday nights,
[59:48] Speaker 3: three hours on the Fantasy Channel and NFL Radio.
[59:51] Speaker 4: It's a simulcast, people. It's all technological.
[59:54] Speaker 3: And so I'm there all the time at Football Guys,
[59:56] Speaker 3: my weekly column, Fantasy Notebook, out every Thursday, coming out today.
[1:00:00] Speaker 3: I talk a lot about the feature backs that we
[1:00:03] Speaker 3: discussed earlier, my In-N-Out column on Saturdays, and my live
[1:00:06] Speaker 3: stream on Saturdays.
[1:00:08] Speaker 4: I love having the people come talk to me.
[1:00:10] Speaker 3: I spend an hour, ask anything, we just sit around
[1:00:13] Speaker 3: and discuss, just like what we did here today. Just
[1:00:16] Speaker 3: kind of talk about situations, circumstances, and what we think,
[1:00:18] Speaker 3: and my On the Hot Seat videos come out every Wednesday.
