[0:00] A Bonjour AB avenue I learned French with Alexa for another
[0:04] podcast. Now this series is quite simple.
[0:08] You're going to hear a small text based on a fun fact about
[0:13] me Alexa Polidoro. Now, if you learned it here just
[0:18] because the algorithm took it here, you may not know who I am,
[0:22] but I'm a French teacher, Alexa Polidoro from Learn French with
[0:26] Alexa. Now stick with us, OK, because
[0:29] you're going to do an exercise, a listening exercise.
[0:34] I'm going to run you through some grammar as well as we go
[0:37] along. Let's listen to another fun fact
[0:39] about me. Alexa Politoho.
[0:42] I'm going to ask you a question after the first reading of this
[0:45] text and maybe a second question if we've got time.
[0:49] Listen very carefully. Equity attentive MO Noel
[0:55] Gallagher Busave le chanteur de groupe de Roc Oasis EMOI Avon
[1:01] shows and coma Eno SE NI PA montalon musical male rosmo nu
[1:08] parte Jean le meme anniversaire SE tadir le vant northeast par
[1:14] Contra no El Gallagher a quetron de prize que Moi bizarme SE to
[1:21] silla that Danny Versaire de John Fitzgerald Kennedy.
[1:27] OK, this is another fun fact about me.
[1:30] As you know, this whole series of the podcast is all about fun
[1:33] facts about Alex Apolidoro. Not that people care, but I
[1:37] thought I would use that as a subject for my text.
[1:40] Anyways, here's the first question.
[1:44] Can't ask just Winnie. Com means when.
[1:48] Can't ask just Winnie. Now juh swiney is the way.
[1:54] In French we say I was born. Bizarrely, we're using sui am I
[2:00] am born. So you may wonder, but why when
[2:03] I say I was born in French we say I am born?
[2:07] That's because the verb net to be born is used in a passe
[2:13] composite, as in the past tense with the auxiliary verb to be.
[2:18] And when we do a pasi compose, we use an auxiliary verb in the
[2:23] present tense and we add a past participle.
[2:27] I've lost you, haven't I? Well, let me rewind now.
[2:32] Je means AI, si means AM northeast N EE in that case is
[2:39] born and northeast Here is a past participle of the verb
[2:44] netre net, which is considered as a movement verb.
[2:49] Weirdly and all the movement verbs are using the auxiliary to
[2:55] be in the basic composite. So can't translate it by I was
[3:01] born. No, can't do that in French.
[3:04] You have to say I am born and weirdly, and this is a fun fact,
[3:09] not about me, but when you use to die, it is also constructed
[3:18] the same way. So if you wanted to say I I am
[3:25] dead or I died, not that you would ever do that because you'd
[3:29] be dead, but imagine I died. It would be I am dead.
[3:36] OK, so GE three more because the verb is more here and Maurier is
[3:43] also considered like a movement verb and therefore in the passe
[3:46] composite is used with the auxiliary verb ETR.
[3:51] OK, so in order to answer this question, can't ask contesques
[3:56] just when was I born? Listen to the text one more
[4:00] time. Listen very carefully.
[4:03] Noel Gallagher Mousavi le chanteur du groupe de Roc Oasis
[4:08] ET Moi avoir en chosen coma Eno SE EPA montalon musical MI le
[4:14] rosmo nu parta Jean le meme anniversaire SE tadier le vant
[4:20] noff me par contr no El Gallagher a quatrone de plus
[4:25] cumois bizarre MO SE tosi la de de niversa de John Fitzgerald
[4:29] Kennedy, Right. Can you answer?
[4:33] When I was born, Did you hear that in a text?
[4:36] Yeah. Le van Neve me the 29th of May,
[4:42] but we said the 29th May le vent northeast may see la dat de mun
[4:48] naniversaire. It's my birthday, the date of my
[4:52] birthday. Can you tell me when yours is
[4:55] kele la dat de votre anniversaire?
[4:59] So to answer this question, you would say la dat de mun
[5:03] naniversaire ay, and whenever your birthday is.
[5:08] Now here's the second question esque Noel Gallagher a Prussian
[5:14] como. Is Noel Gallagher younger than
[5:18] me? Now listen really carefully and
[5:21] tell me we Oh no Noel Gallagher Mousavi le chanteur de groupe de
[5:28] Roc Oasis EMOI avoin chosen coma Eno SE EPA Montano musical mala
[5:34] rosmo nu parte Jean le Mani versaire southeast a die
[5:38] relevante nafme a contr Noel Gallagher a catron de preuss que
[5:44] Moi bizarmo SE to silla DA de niverse de Jean Fitzgerald
[5:49] Kennedy. OK, so to answer esque Noel
[5:52] Gallagher E Preuss Jean que Moi. Is Noel Gallagher younger than
[5:57] me now? Preuss Jean que more young than
[6:03] preview que would be more old than now.
[6:07] This is called a comparative OK plus plus adjective and then CU
[6:13] OK and if you had more plus adjective and then CU it will be
[6:18] less than now. Can you answer whether Noel
[6:24] Gallagher is younger than me or not?
[6:27] Well, in the text that say Noel Gallagher are Catron de plus CU
[6:35] MO, what does that mean? Noel Gallagher is 4 years older
[6:44] than me ILA Catron four years more than me ILA Catron de Prix
[6:49] Comois. OK, when you're going to give
[6:52] your age, you don't say I am for example 35.
[6:58] You would say in French I have 35 years, so JE Tran St. con.
[7:05] So the same goes for well, he is 4 years older.
[7:09] You would say he has four year more than you Don Quix Ella
[7:15] catron de Proust catois or quinoa For me in that case, to
[7:21] answer the question, is Noel Gallagher younger a Persian
[7:25] quinoa then you would say no. Noel Gallagher a preview Quetois
[7:33] Elie preview is older by four years.
[7:37] OK, so this is quite difficult. OK, fun fact, Noel Gallagher was
[7:43] born in 1967. That tells you my age.
[7:46] Now if you've listened to the text, I am not going to reveal
[7:51] my age unless you're very good at maths.
[7:55] Well, you don't need to be very good at maths to work out how
[7:58] old I am, OK? Anyway, we're going to read it
[8:03] one more time, OK, with the translation to help you a bit
[8:07] more, and that should become much clearer.
[8:11] Noel Gallagher, Mousavi Le Chanter, the group the rock
[8:15] Oasis. So Noel Gallagher, you know, the
[8:19] lead singer of the rock band Oasis, the group the rock EI Moi
[8:26] avoir in shows and comma. So Noel Gallagher and I and me,
[8:31] we have nu savant unchos en coma.
[8:35] One thing in common, No SE northeast par montalon musical
[8:40] and no, it's not my physical talent.
[8:44] You know, Malo Rosmo, unfortunately, Malo Rosmo nu
[8:49] parte Jean le meme anniversaire. We share the same birthday sita
[8:55] dia, which means Levant neuf may Levant neuf may the 29th of May
[9:03] Noel Gallagher a Catron de Prisco noir.
[9:07] Noel Gallagher is 4 years older than me.
[9:11] Now remember what I've said, when you give your age you need
[9:14] to use avoir. So je Trinton, I'm 30 years, J
[9:21] Sanconto I'm 50 years and so on. OK?
[9:24] Do not say je suis Sanconto, je suis ton doesn't work in French.
[9:29] OK? Now Noel Gallagher is 4 years
[9:32] older than me, OK? Bizarre.
[9:37] Strangely, bizarrely. OK, so to see like that Danny
[9:41] Verser de John fits the old Kennedy, I can't say it.
[9:46] It is Also John fits the old Kennedy's birthday.
[9:49] OK, and Latoya Jackson by by the way, just in case, you know, you
[9:57] want to know, we did some research on who, what famous
[10:01] person was born on the 29th of May, right?
[10:05] So we've read that text, we've listened to it three times, OK,
[10:10] and we've translated it. OK, Now what I want to emphasize
[10:14] on 2 words, Malorosmo and Bizarmo.
[10:18] Now Manor rousman means unfortunately and bizarman means
[10:22] strangely or bizarrely. Now these are called adverbs of
[10:26] manner. OK?
[10:28] And the way we create those we have to do 2 things.
[10:33] Take an adjective Manor, which is unhappy.
[10:37] OK, in order to form Manor rousman, what we've done is that
[10:42] we take Manor Roux, the masculine adjective form, put it
[10:46] into its feminine adjective form, which is malorose, and all
[10:51] we need to do afterwards is add more malorose MO, unfortunately.
[10:57] And so we do the same for bizarre MO.
[10:59] Bizarre is the adjective, it is bizarre.
[11:03] The feminine adjective for bizarre is bizarre because it
[11:06] ends with an E anyway, and we add more bizarre MO.
[11:11] Now, can you form an adverb using rapid?
[11:15] Rapid, that means fast. Now rapid, this adjective, what
[11:21] would be rapidly or fast, rapid de Mont, exactly.
[11:27] OK, you get it. I cover how to form in great
[11:31] detail the adverb of manner, and I also run through tons of
[11:37] different adverbs as well in my complete French course Learn
[11:41] French with Alexa, which you can find at Learn French with
[11:44] alexa.com. And if you don't know who I am,
[11:47] I am the YouTube Alexa Polidoro from the very popular YouTube
[11:54] channel Learn French with Alexa. That's it for me.
[11:57] Au revoir abiento bisu bisu.
