## Transcript

[0:02] A listener production.
[0:04] First kick, first goal.
[0:05] Oatry in slow motion, Scott Pendleton.
[0:08] Stand still for the great one.
[0:11] Welcome to the Record Breaker.
[0:16] How big this football club is.
[0:18] And they've got three changes.
[0:20] Lockie Sullivan and Will Hayes and Ed Allen go out.
[0:23] Six All-Australians for Penderbridge.
[0:25] Game 429 against Fremantle.
[0:28] Four games to the record.
[0:29] Penderbridge is so clever against a youngster and then takes off.
[0:32] All the Fremantle are going to do it for a second consecutive week.
[0:37] They are going to come from behind and win at the Adelaide Oval.
[0:43] This time against Collingwoods.
[0:48] Welcome to Melbourne Airport everyone.
[0:49] The time is 9.45am.
[0:50] It's currently here, six feet.
[0:53] All right, just driving back from the airport.
[0:58] Post last night's game against the Dockers.
[1:02] It's a...
[1:04] Yeah, it was a tough game.
[1:05] Felt like we did so much right.
[1:08] Conditions were pretty wild out there with the wind and the rain.
[1:13] Yeah, walk away disappointed with the result, but optimistic with how we played, how we set the game up, how we defended.
[1:20] And I rate Freo really highly.
[1:22] I think they're going to be a top four side or have the ability to be a top four side with the list that they've got.
[1:27] a short turnaround again for us so it's just yeah a lot of recovery the next 48 hours with sauna hot baths uh ice baths red light therapy go for a ride flush the legs out have a swim later tonight as well just to get you know the blood moving again and make sure i eat really well you know support your body as best as you can and then yeah straight back on the horse and really optimistic for um for thursday night against the blues which will be a um yeah a really big game
[1:58] Hello, great man.
[1:59] It is 4.30 on Tuesday, the 14th of April.
[2:03] So this Thursday night, you are up for game number 430, and you are playing Carlton, the arch rival, who I can see you've played 33 times for 25 wins, no draws, and eight that we won't even mention.
[2:17] Always such a big build-up for this game in the media and seemingly inside the football club, the great rivalry between you and the Blues.
[2:25] So is there more to this game?
[2:26] Are they enemies or is it just another game of football for you?
[2:31] You might see a few extras here.
[2:33] Not the young and old now out here.
[2:35] Just a leg.
[2:36] Daybos.
[2:37] This is where he got his best.
[2:38] Let it go.
[2:39] Dale Thomas just got hit.
[2:41] He's tied down.
[2:42] Nowhere near the ball.
[2:43] He can't get up, Josh Fraser.
[2:45] He's been KO.
[2:46] Now Buckley's just inquiring here his well-being or whether he knew it in his golf.
[2:51] He's been unbelievable from Dave.
[2:53] He is up goal There are spot buyers everywhere at the moment There are three separate, four separate Old occasions It's 4.32 On Tuesday We've just finished main training Heading home to the fam No there is, there's more in it For sure I didn't know that was my record so that's a pretty decent record I'll take that every day of the week
[3:21] I just love beating them.
[3:23] I feel like, especially in the crowd and the supporter base, they both don't get along.
[3:27] You can definitely feel that energy.
[3:29] No matter where they are or we are on the ladder, I feel like there's always a bit of extra.
[3:34] In that, you could bet your bottom dollar there'll be, you know, some sort of scuffle or a little bit of push and shove early on.
[3:42] Yeah, can't wait.
[3:43] We love Gather Round, but we love the MCG even more.
[3:46] I've got a minute now, Scott Pendlebury, veteran of the Collingwood Football Club.
[3:50] Scott, game 430.
[3:51] It's so many, it's hard to wrap your head around.
[3:54] But when you rock up today to the MCG and it's Carlton and Collingwood, do you still get those nerves of excitement and the sense that you're playing in a huge blockbuster match?
[4:03] Yeah, every time you play Carlton, it's obviously a big game.
[4:05] And, you know, the crowd's got to be massive.
[4:07] You're at the MCG.
[4:08] It's always in a marquee time slot.
[4:10] All going to plan for you.
[4:12] Do you need another break in the next month or is it full-forward your head to this record?
[4:16] I'm not saying I'm the same as him, but I like what LeBron James said.
[4:19] He's like, I go to bed available and I wake up questionable.
[4:22] I tell my teammates a lot of time, I go to sleep available and I wake up goutful.
[4:27] Yeah, get through this and see how I feel tomorrow.
[4:31] Game 430 against Carlton.
[4:33] Three games to the record.
[4:34] Penelope continues the banter of shares.
[4:37] They'll go into the halftime break with the lead again.
[4:40] They've done this a lot this year, and then the problem's come.
[4:43] So Carlton lead it, as they have plenty of times this season, at halftime by 14 points.
[4:49] Scott Pendlebury has had 12 disposals.
[4:51] He is playing incredibly the great champion, game number 430 tonight, Scott Pendlebury.
[5:00] So he's only a couple behind the great Boomer Harvey.
[5:02] He's in front of the likes of Tuck, Burgoyne, Bartlett and Fletcher.
[5:06] And, Jordy, when you play for that long, statistics come your way.
[5:10] He just completed his 2000th tackle, Scott Penelbury, 2001 now.
[5:15] So he leads all comers in the history of the game since that particular stat has been recorded.
[5:20] The sixth-high rated player in the AFL this year.
[5:24] So at the age of... What is he, Howie?
[5:28] 49.
[5:28] He's still continuing to have a huge say.
[5:31] Even tonight, he's still having a huge say on the game.
[5:34] What a start.
[5:36] 21st year in the AFL at the top level.
[5:37] It's just extraordinary.
[5:38] Squeezed it in.
[5:40] Look on Michael Voss' face.
[5:41] He's got to be thinking to himself, not again.
[5:43] This time Lipinski doesn't miss.
[5:46] It's happening again for Carter.
[5:47] He's grounded on Dacos Island.
[5:49] He can be the miracle man for the Blues.
[5:51] Free kick.
[5:53] Off the footy.
[5:54] It's against Josh Dacos.
[5:59] And it's going the way of Byrne, who will probably kick.
[6:02] 15 on the clock to tie it up.
[6:05] Guys, he must be five minutes behind.
[6:09] The biggest moment in his career, I dare say the biggest moment in his life, the young man.
[6:16] He missed one earlier on.
[6:19] Yeah, this is where you've just got to clear your head.
[6:22] Taylor Byrne with a chorus of boos.
[6:27] Sire him.
[6:30] to tie it up, and he does not!
[6:35] Misses!
[6:36] I did see you go straight up to Young Burns.
[6:37] What did you say?
[6:38] Oh, I just said, don't worry about it, man.
[6:40] Put yourself in that situation so many more times and you'll nail them.
[6:42] And yeah, you don't like seeing somebody shattered like that.
[6:45] So, you know, I like seeing guys try and take that opportunity and, you know, he was the man in the arena just then.
[6:53] Right, it is.
[6:57] 10.33 on Thursday night.
[7:00] Rather than you sending me a message, mate, I thought I'd come and have a chat with you in the rooms because 430 games in, I guess this is why you still play footy.
[7:06] Yeah, it was unbelievable out there.
[7:09] Felt confident at three-quarter time if we could actually kick the ball to our forwards properly, we might score.
[7:14] So the crowd was electric.
[7:16] So 21 years in...
[7:19] Does it still provide the same buzz?
[7:20] There's 85,000.
[7:21] There's a bloke who had a shot after the siren to tie it up.
[7:25] I wish people could see you now, and you've got a smile on your face, and you've still got that buzz about you.
[7:30] Oh, absolutely.
[7:30] It's rare.
[7:31] If I didn't have the buzz or motivation, I would have stopped years ago.
[7:34] Yeah, there's nothing better than game day.
[7:37] This part of the year is the easy part.
[7:38] You just get to compete.
[7:39] You get after it.
[7:40] And, yeah, it's amazing.
[7:42] I never take for granted playing Collingwood Carlton in front of however many that was there tonight.
[7:48] When you started 21 years ago, it was you.
[7:50] Now it's you, Alex, and the family.
[7:51] You've got your young bloke here, so he's been out the back in the rooms.
[7:55] Yeah, they both come straight in the rooms.
[7:57] They grab a soft drink.
[7:59] They're well and truly at home.
[8:00] Usually the change room is just full of all the kids trying to drink Pepsi or lemonade or...
[8:05] But that's, I guess that's another element, Scotty.
[8:07] For everyone that has a family out there, the fact that you can take your kids into a professional sporting room and they know these blokes like they're their friends, does that add something extra to it?
[8:17] Oh, it's amazing, yeah.
[8:18] I feel like I've had more fun...
[8:20] in footy since the kids have been here and everyone's kids and just all being a part of it because you know you know there's always so many kids in the song and having a good time and it makes it feel like what everyone grows up in you know country footy clubs where you know when you win it's it's the whole town turns up so it's really cool so what is your night from here on it it's 20...
[8:41] 5 to 11.
[8:41] Yeah, I'll take my time from here and we'll have a team meeting now and then me and the kids will walk back to the footy club from here and I'll do some ice baths and stuff back there and the kids will run around and play basketball, have a kick at the footy and then go home, have a feed, get the kids to bed and then I'll jump in the sauna for maybe like half an hour, just have a bit of a sweat, jump in the ice bath and then hopefully fall asleep around 1.30 or 2 o'clock.
[9:06] That's a hardcore ice bath at 1.30.
[9:09] To this point...
[9:10] In this particular series, we haven't broached the record.
[9:14] I haven't sent you any messages about it.
[9:15] I haven't asked you to talk about it.
[9:16] But now, it's game 4.30.
[9:18] So, you're two away from equaling the record, three away from potentially breaking it.
[9:24] Do you start to think about it, mate, or is it a game that's taught you so much it's literally one game at a time?
[9:30] I'd be lying if I said it's just one game at a time.
[9:32] I've got an eye to it because there's so much planning the club's done around it and how they want it to look.
[9:38] So we've just tried to be really organised, so then it allows me, once we've got our ducks in a row there, that I actually can just focus on week by week.
[9:44] And the club's been amazing, liaising with the family and organising, but when you've got 100 people potentially coming down to watch the game, you can't just let them know three days out.
[9:53] So I feel like we're organised, but I'm able to put that to the side and train well, prepare well and still go out there and perform.
[10:01] Enjoy your game at 4.30 for what it is.
[10:04] Mate, it's great to see you here with your kids in the rooms and after 21 years enjoying it as much as you can and you're off the hook, mate.
[10:10] You don't need to send us a WhatsApp tonight.
[10:12] There'll be no 2am voice memo.
[10:14] The long kick in Houston who will play on Houston.
[10:18] He's a beautiful long kicker.
[10:20] Very kind of you to join us, mate, the morning after a late night as well.
[10:23] What's on the agenda for you on a typical recovery day?
[10:26] Well, it's funny you ask that.
[10:27] Scott Pendle, we asked him to go for a ride at 6.30am this morning.
[10:30] So I went for a ride down to Mordialic with him just to get the ball rolling with the recovery, which was good.
[10:36] There was a little bit of wind, though, so that got the legs going.
[10:39] I love it.
[10:40] Beatrice, I hope you're on the Giant like Pendle's is.
[10:43] Yeah, I was on the Giant.
[10:44] We both got a Giant, which is good.
[10:47] Yeah, I'm looking forward to a few more rises, penalties.
[10:50] He seems to keep the body in good nick, so hopefully it works for me as well.
[10:56] Scotty, how are you, mate?
[10:57] Sun shining.
[10:57] It is Tuesday the 23rd of April, 3.15pm, just at school pick-up.
[11:02] You know the drill.
[11:03] Anzac Day this Saturday.
[11:06] Hard to keep track of your statistics, but since you debuted, from what I can gather, you haven't missed one.
[11:10] So I reckon you've played 19...
[11:13] Update for you, 12 wins, 6 losses and 1 famous draw.
[11:17] So to you, what is the day like to play in?
[11:20] Everything that happens beforehand, the match, the crowd...
[11:30] Roto, it's April 21, 3.30, just heading home from training straight to the basketball stadium.
[11:38] I coach my daughter's under sevens basketball team, so it's their first season.
[11:43] So my main responsibility is making sure they know which way they're going.
[11:47] But it is a lot of fun watching the girls run around and celebrate when they get a goal or anything like that.
[11:53] There has been a few handstands on the court, cartwheels, all that sort of stuff.
[11:57] So as you can imagine, it's quite a bit of chaos coaching the girls.
[12:02] Anzac Day, it reminds me of a prelim final, to be honest.
[12:06] I know it's clichéd, but it literally doesn't matter where Essendon are or where Collingwood are on the ladder.
[12:12] Just the noise, the energy, playing in the daytime.
[12:16] Incredible atmosphere underway on Anzac Day.
[12:18] The first goal for Collingwood and the first goal for Essendon.
[12:21] Everyone's going off their heads.
[12:23] Looks good off the boots.
[12:24] Essendon's first.
[12:25] I can just sense the energy, you know, when you go out for a warm-up, there's so many people already there, you know, an hour and a half before the game, which isn't normal.
[12:32] I feel like both supporters really get behind the day, and it's obviously got so much history in it.
[12:38] I'll never forget my first year going, and I obviously didn't play my first one, but I remember watching Daisy Thomas.
[12:46] It was in my draft.
[12:50] Foot race now, Thomas is going to win it.
[12:53] Beautiful pick up from Thomas.
[12:55] And around he goes, right foot shot.
[12:56] Have a listen to this.
[12:59] Oh, the Pies fans go absolutely nuts.
[13:03] Just thinking how special it would be to get the opportunity one day to play.
[13:07] And in my second year, I was lucky enough to go out there and play.
[13:09] And you definitely feel the occasion.
[13:12] And Mick Malthouse used to speak about it a lot, that he always would look to players and how they'd perform, especially early in their career.
[13:19] on the bigger stage and he reckons he could tell a lot about a player if they were made of the right stuff with how they performed under the brightest lights.
[13:25] You can't hide.
[13:26] There's absolutely no place to hide on Anzac Day.
[13:30] It's either victory or disgrace.
[13:32] You don't want to disgrace your teammate, don't disgrace your unit.
[13:35] Don't disgrace yourself.
[13:37] That opportunity, when it comes... Yeah, Anzac Day is definitely one that's just super special and I'm really fortunate to be able to play in so many of these games and also they're the hardest ones.
[13:49] The people come from left, right and centre asking for if you've just got one spare ticket for them.
[13:53] So you've got to manage the ticket expectations pretty early.
[13:58] Secondly, best on ground for you three times.
[14:01] So you alongside James Hurd, the only footballers from either club to have won the Anzac Day medal three times.
[14:08] What does that mean to you and your family?
[14:11] Thanks, mate.
[14:12] The Anzac Day medal for 2010 goes to the Collingwood player, Scott Pendlebury.
[14:20] And then to his medal last year, Scott Pendlebury.
[14:23] And the winner of the Anzac Day medal is Scott Pendlebury of the Collingwood Footy Club.
[14:33] Winning the Anzac medal, it's probably not something that you go out there obviously trying to do, but to be able to play well on the day, to me, it means a lot.
[14:42] Whether that's you get the medal or you're just able to contribute to the team and do what the team needs and play your role and some.
[14:48] So, yeah, I've been lucky enough to have an alright history so far in Anzac Day games and hopefully I can continue that this year and do my bit for the side and we can get another win.
[15:00] Cheers.
[15:02] Thursday the 23rd of April, it's 5.52.
[15:05] I wandered into the Triple M commentary box, and who's trying to steal my job?
[15:09] But the star of the series, Scotty Penbury, is wandered in here next to Jay Clark.
[15:13] What are you doing in here?
[15:14] Learning the ropes, mate.
[15:16] Jay-Z's chaperoned me up here and see how it goes behind the glass.
[15:20] So it is the Western Bulldogs senior.
[15:21] So you're doing specials tonight, mate?
[15:23] Yeah, doing specials with these guys.
[15:24] So I've done a little bit with Seven already this year.
[15:27] And, yeah, it's my triple M. Well done to the umpire, too.
[15:30] Yeah, stopping play, the way that he landed then.
[15:33] I did.
[15:33] Wow.
[15:34] It didn't look good, did it?
[15:35] Nah.
[15:35] When you see one of your teammates go down and knocked out or really injured, it does really rattle you.
[15:41] And it would be interesting now to see how they respond for the rest of this quarter, the rest of the game.
[15:46] You're going to win the ball back and go wide.
[15:48] You're just allowing Sydney time to set their defense again and you're not putting any pressure on them.
[15:54] I think for them, a lot of it's come down to they've had a bit of injury in-game, having to shuffle the magnets.
[15:59] The defensive side of his game has been...
[16:01] noticeable tonight.
[16:02] How many tackles has he had tonight?
[16:04] Yeah, he's laid seven tackles.
[16:06] How have you found it when you've been doing it?
[16:07] You obviously have a real perspective on the game.
[16:11] Yeah, I enjoy doing the footy from behind, you know, on the other side of the fence.
[16:14] It's, yeah, it's certainly a lot easier sitting up in the seats.
[16:17] So,
[16:18] Yeah, brought in a nice bag of treats for everyone from Leaf in Elwood and good friends of mine, and everyone's dipping into the bag, which is most important.
[16:25] It's called Pendle's Recovery Potion.
[16:27] It looks like it's somehow related to you.
[16:29] Well, I'm just trying to put a bit of muscle on you.
[16:31] See how we go.
[16:31] So there's the siren and a huge win, 11 goals, 66 points for 70.
[16:34] Swans over the dog.
[16:39] Righto, just walking into the KGM Centre, which is the home of the Collingwood Football Club.
[16:46] Olympic Boulevard just near the MCG.
[16:48] So as much as we've been focused on Scott and what he's trying to achieve on field, off field there's a tremendous responsibility and a tremendous amount of organisation going on behind the scenes from Collingwood.
[17:03] So it is a perfect celebration for their champion, both for what's involved in the day, the commercial realities of it all.
[17:12] the emotional side of it, the business side of it.
[17:14] This is an enormous undertaking.
[17:16] So the man in charge of the Collingwood Football Club is a former premiership player with the Pies.
[17:21] His name is Craig Kelly.
[17:24] He's the CEO.
[17:24] He's known as Ned.
[17:25] And we'll go and have a chat with him about what the Pies are up to.
[17:32] Craig, what does this mean?
[17:34] Hold on, hold on, hold on.
[17:35] Ned, please, we're not that formal.
[17:37] I was just trying to make the fans at the start.
[17:39] You'd just be nice to me, please.
[17:41] Ned, what does an occasion of this significance mean to the Collingwood Football Club?
[17:47] To be able to do this for Scott, for his family, for the fans and the members who have seen way more of his footy than a lot of us in this building, it's just a great celebration of a one-club approach.
[18:01] So as I said, obviously a lot going on, a lot of work for Collingwood to get this spot on for Scott, for his family, for the Collingwood members, for the AFL community.
[18:15] Further to this, Collingwood have really kindly let us and in turn you into some of their meetings discussing the best way forward for various issues.
[18:26] So you're about to hear again from Craig, Ned, the CEO, alongside Chris Larkin, the executive GM of commercial and merchandise, as they plot their way through.
[18:36] the best approach on a whole range of topics.
[18:40] Potential clashes with some other home and away games.
[18:42] Where are you at with that?
[18:43] Yeah, we went through with Scotty last week, just the roadmap of all the ins and outs and what he does or does not want as per the licensing agreement.
[18:52] And Scott's peeled it right back, which has been good.
[18:54] So we submitted the paper back into the AFL last week.
[18:57] So we've got wine, which is his passion.
[18:59] Okay, that's enough.
[19:00] Stop.
[19:01] Tommy, stop.
[19:02] No, you need to stop right there.
[19:04] We can't give away...
[19:06] commercial sensitivities at this point.
[19:09] Some of this stuff you're not allowed to hear as yet.
[19:12] We'll continue more of this conversation next Friday on episode three where it will be at a point where basically you are allowed to hear it.
[19:24] So on we go.
[19:25] But no more of that at the moment, please, Tommy.
[19:29] Now, on the subject of wines, Pendles has a very tasty wine business called Elite Estate Wine, through which he's previously done some really cool limited release wines around real career milestones.
[19:40] All releases, pay attention here, all releases have sold out sharpish.
[19:45] Now, the latest wine is the SP433 Record Breaker, which is a Yarra Valley Pinot Noir, if you don't mind, a Pinot Noir, which is made at Earring Station, which is actually, I like this, the place where Scotty proposed to Alex.
[20:00] Hmm.
[20:01] Isn't that nice?
[20:02] We do enjoy a good love story here on the Howie Games.
[20:05] Anyway, I digress.
[20:06] A portion of every sale of the SP433 record breaker goes to My Room Children's Cancer Charity, where Scott has been a long-time ambassador.
[20:15] You, at the moment, can still get the SP433 at eliteestatewine.com.au.
[20:22] That's eliteestatewine.com.au.
[20:24] The link is in the show notes.
[20:31] 6, 7, this is Anzac Day morning.
[20:35] Fresh as can be.
[20:37] Oh, that's cold.
[20:38] This is breakfast for me.
[20:41] I'll always have coffee and overnight I would switch it in the fridge and I'll get out once I've whipped it up.
[20:49] So, game day coffee, only coffee for the day.
[20:53] It's always a triple shot latte.
[20:56] I've been up since six.
[20:59] Jumped in my pool, barefoot walk outside on the grass.
[21:04] It's safe to say that a lot of questions throughout the week.
[21:08] Do you get excited to play in this game?
[21:10] I think today's my 19th, but yeah, safe to say I couldn't sleep from six because I'm bloody excited to play.
[21:22] to the record.
[21:23] So Pendlebury.
[21:23] Pendlebury pulls it out.
[21:24] Pendlebury.
[21:25] It looks like everyone around him slows down.
[21:26] He's an angelist.
[21:27] I mean, how many accolades can we give Scott Pendlebury?
[21:30] Love him.
[21:31] He deserves every single one of them.
[21:33] I'm there for 38-year-old.
[21:33] His all-time record, Scott Pendlebury, is 42 disposal.
[21:36] He's going to crap that.
[21:37] Could he break his one-on-one with Roberts?
[21:40] Here it is!
[21:43] The biggest ever win for Collingwood on Anzac Day.
[21:49] But all attention is on Scott Pendlebury.
[21:52] A career-high 43 disposals.
[21:54] We salute you, Scotty.
[21:56] Ageless, timeless, peerless.
[22:01] Scott Pendlebury.
[22:02] It's a bit weird.
[22:02] I've been watching him play for 15 years and now I get to play with him and he's still just absolutely dominating.
[22:07] I think he gets disrespected a little bit by opposition.
[22:09] They let him run around.
[22:10] One way, then the other.
[22:13] There's Pendlebury in space.
[22:14] That's 430 odd games of experience about knowing two possessions ahead of play.
[22:19] He's a legend of our game, a legend of our footy club and every time we watch him perform we're just in awe and we're all just so happy for him kicking that goal away.
[22:25] The greatest of Collingwood greats seals the perfect Pendlebury game with a goal.
[22:34] He's probably flown under the radar, had with a season he has had so far.
[22:41] Hello, Scotty.
[22:42] It is 6.06pm on Saturday, the 25th of April, the evening of Anzac Day.
[22:48] Big win.
[22:48] He's doing it in sleep, Scott Pendlebury.
[22:52] Never retire, Scott.
[22:53] You've won your fourth Anzac Day medal.
[22:55] Congratulations.
[22:57] Extraordinary, mate.
[22:58] For the fourth time, it's Scott Pendlebury.
[23:01] Take us through the day.
[23:02] Take us through the game.
[23:03] Well played.
[23:06] All right, it's the morning after Anzac Day, up at 6.30.
[23:13] Jax has got footy today at 8 o'clock, so down to Shane Warne Oval to watch the mighty Sandringham Zebras.
[23:21] I think I'm the umpire escort today, so I'll don the high-vis jacket and make sure the umpires get looked after, and then get a bit of recovery and relax for the day.
[23:31] Amazing day yesterday.
[23:32] It's always really special.
[23:34] I'm not lost on me either how important the day is and what an opportunity we get to play football.
[23:40] in front of that many people.
[23:41] It changes a little bit from the first time, obviously the first time you do it, it's all new and it's all a little bit surreal to be standing there in front of 90,000, I think after 19 times, there's a level of comfort out there that you know how it all works and know what happens and I would say the nerves are still there, the minute silence, all that sort of stuff that everyone talks about is still just amazing and if anything, it's probably the excitement
[24:06] In me, that is still, you know, amazing to just be so excited to play and you feel like you're 21 again with just that, you know, enthusiasm to get out there and mix it up and get into the game.
[24:16] And we spoke about it before the game, but it's always a grind in the first quarter and first half just because there's so much emotion.
[24:23] And we don't like to say it, but you feel like everyone's giving...
[24:27] a little bit extra, a little bit more on that day.
[24:29] And, you know, it sort of played out that way that, you know, I was really tired at halftime, but then we're able to open up a little bit in the second half and control the game, put a good score on the board and defend them really well.
[24:41] So it was a nice day to walk away.
[24:43] It was our first day of the game for the year as well.
[24:45] So it was nice to finish the game and be able to walk back with the family and
[24:50] go home and just sit on the couch and put the feet up and sit there and watch some other games of footy and just chill out and relax.
[24:56] And it was certainly an amazing win.
[24:58] And as for winning the Anzac Day medal, you know, I'm not a massive sort of reflector and things like that, but I was definitely special to share that with the kids.
[25:10] They're old enough now and they've heard about what it is and seeing their face.
[25:14] You know, Jax was so excited when I put the medal on his neck and he got to wear it for a little bit
[25:22] Just a quick second one for you.
[25:25] I know you obviously have tremendous self-confidence, which is a requirement for any athlete, but did you think you had a performance of this level still in you?
[25:34] Thank you, mate.
[25:37] Well, I'm an athlete, so we always have a healthy ego and I think we always...
[25:44] believe in ourselves and what we can do.
[25:46] So I suppose not in terms of getting 43 possessions and stuff like that.
[25:53] I probably didn't think I had one of those days in mid.
[25:56] There's number 40 for Penelope.
[25:59] 41.
[25:59] Here we go, 42.
[26:02] The crowd are riding every disposal, and he doesn't miss again.
[26:06] It's a maestro.
[26:08] Perfect.
[26:09] I definitely feel like this season as well that I can impact games with or without the ball through the role that I play.
[26:16] And probably a key indicator for me is when I get the ball in hand, I still feel really comfortable at the level getting through traffic, making the right decision.
[26:30] It's not so much about the raw numbers, it's about what I'm doing with the footy.
[26:33] So, you know, 43 possessions is just the number, but, you know, are you using the ball well?
[26:38] Are you having score involvements?
[26:44] It's a bit like the metres gained stat.
[26:46] Everyone loves metres gained and, you know, 700 metres gained today, but...
[26:50] I've always been the belief of, you know, you want effective metres gained.
[26:54] There's no point having 700 metres gained if you're kicking the ball back to the opposition and they're going back and taking, you know, just as much back.
[27:00] So efficiency, things like that, which I think I've been pretty good with for the year, for the first six games I've played.
[27:06] I feel like my disposals, efficiency's been high, low turnovers, high score involvement.
[27:12] So, yeah, I definitely feel like, yeah, I'm making an impact and it was nice to...
[27:18] Kick a couple of goals, the kids always into me to kick some goals and do some celebration.
[27:22] Pendlebury directly in front, 25 metres out.
[27:26] When you think this day could not deliver any more joy for Collingwood.
[27:32] They swing the champion forward.
[27:34] He draws a free kick.
[27:36] He lines them up.
[27:40] To answer your question, I still feel like I can well and truly impact games at a high level, at AFL level.
[27:48] Pendlebury, left foot snap.
[27:50] Little hand pass, Pendlebury.
[27:51] Look at the rolls, Royce.
[27:51] Superstar's got Pendlebury.
[27:57] That is it for episode two of the Pendlebury Diaries record breaker.
[28:01] In episode three, next Friday, spread the word about the show, by the way, so more of your mates can get involved in what's going on here.
[28:08] Episode three, next Friday, what actually happens behind the scenes in the week leading up to the record.
[28:15] Just having a laugh, though.
[28:17] The huge job that club has undertaken.
[28:19] Anyone who's involved in any premiership or helping Scott get on the ground, we're trying to make sure they get into that room.
[28:25] The history of the record, which trust me is fascinating.
[28:28] Kevin Bartlett, who played his 337th game to beat the record held by John Rantel and set earlier this year.
[28:35] And what is happening on field.
[28:38] Didn't sort of see that coming, which is not nice.
[28:41] plus whatever else happens in real time between now and next Friday when episode three drops.
[28:47] Do not forget the link in the show notes to the SP433 record breaker, Pinot Noir.
[28:53] Until next Friday with episode three of the Pendlebury Diaries record breaker, peace and love.
