[0:32] Speaker 1: be interesting, useful, and fun. Let's open up those phone
[0:36] Speaker 1: lines at triple eight Rich one oh one. That's eight
[0:40] Speaker 1: eight eight seven four to two four one zero one.

[1:01] Speaker 1: we've got a packed show this week. We've got some
[1:03] Speaker 1: great guests. YouTube tech creator and a friend of the show,
[1:07] Speaker 1: Brian Tong, will help break down Apple's big iPhone seventeen announcements.
[1:11] Speaker 1: And yes, there's gonna be a lot of Apple talk
[1:13] Speaker 1: in this show because they announced a lot of stuff
[1:15] Speaker 1: this week. Then we've got Apple's vice president of worldwide
[1:19] Speaker 1: iPhone Product Marketing, Kayenne Drantz. She's going to join me
[1:23] Speaker 1: to talk about the big iPhone seventeen announcements as well
[1:25] Speaker 1: from Apple standpoint. And then later in the show, we've
[1:28] Speaker 1: got Daniel Green of Fay Travel Insurance. He's gonna explain
[1:32] Speaker 1: how tech is transforming travel insurance with app based claims,
[1:37] Speaker 1: instant reimbursements, and AI powered twenty four to seven support. Now,
[1:44] Speaker 1: for those of you that do follow me on Instagram,
[1:46] Speaker 1: you know that I posted I was involved in a
[1:48] Speaker 1: pretty serious car accident this week. Thank you for all
[1:52] Speaker 1: of the messages, all of the well wishes, all of
[1:55] Speaker 1: the thoughts, and I mean I spent the whole day
[1:58] Speaker 1: on my phone just replying to as many as I could.
[2:02] Speaker 2: Thank you for that.
[2:03] Speaker 1: I will I don't want to make the whole show
[2:05] Speaker 1: about that, but I will give an update on that
[2:08] Speaker 1: a little bit later in the show. But just know
[2:10] Speaker 1: that I am very happy to be here with you today,
[2:13] Speaker 1: and I'm very happy for you to you know, for
[2:17] Speaker 1: all the response that you gave me. I mean, it
[2:19] Speaker 1: really really did make me feel special. So thank you.
[2:22] Speaker 2: That is not lost to me.
[2:24] Speaker 1: All right, let's talk about apple big announcement this week.
[2:28] Speaker 1: I call this the super Bowl of Tech because basically,
[2:33] Speaker 1: anyone who's everyone, everyone who's anyone in the tech world
[2:37] Speaker 1: makes their way up to Coopertino, myself included, to see
[2:41] Speaker 1: what this is all about. So we're talking a bunch
[2:44] Speaker 1: of creators, media influencers. They all want to be there,
[2:48] Speaker 1: and Apple invites a large swath of folks. It is
[2:51] Speaker 1: a select group, but if you don't know how these
[2:54] Speaker 1: things work, they basically send an invitation out to their
[2:56] Speaker 1: event about two weeks before it happens, and people just scramble,
[3:01] Speaker 1: you know. They book their hotel room, they book their flights.
[3:03] Speaker 1: They want to be there. If you're invited to this,
[3:06] Speaker 1: I would be curious how many people say no to
[3:09] Speaker 1: going to the Apple event, because just to experience it
[3:11] Speaker 1: is pretty neat, and I've been to a lot of events.
[3:14] Speaker 2: Apple does the best. I mean, they really really do.
[3:17] Speaker 1: There's a little breakfast before you kind of mingle with people.
[3:21] Speaker 1: People line up to be first to get to the keynote.
[3:24] Speaker 1: Then there's a keynote in what's called the Steve Jobs Theater,
[3:27] Speaker 1: and then after the keynote, there is a hands on area.
[3:30] Speaker 1: Now these have changed a little bit because of COVID.
[3:32] Speaker 1: Before everything was live. So if you look back at
[3:35] Speaker 1: the old days of iPhone announcements, any Apple announcement, everything
[3:39] Speaker 1: was demoed live on stage. That does not happen anymore.
[3:43] Speaker 1: Now Tim Cook comes out, he welcomes everyone, and then
[3:46] Speaker 1: they roll the videotape and it's this slickly produced production
[3:50] Speaker 1: that you can watch on YouTube live. But if you're
[3:53] Speaker 1: in person, you're basically watching it on a giant screen,
[3:57] Speaker 1: but you know with all the other people, you're experiencing
[3:59] Speaker 1: it live. But the benefit of being there in person
[4:02] Speaker 1: versus YouTube is that after the keynote is over, there's
[4:05] Speaker 1: a hands on area, and so you go in that
[4:08] Speaker 1: hands on area and that's when you get to see
[4:10] Speaker 1: your first glimpse at these new devices.
[4:12] Speaker 2: And they're all there.
[4:13] Speaker 1: They've got a bunch of Apple people working there to
[4:16] Speaker 1: kind of help you and understand what's new, what's different.
[4:19] Speaker 1: And it is a scramble, I mean, you know, these
[4:23] Speaker 1: folks are just trying to post, you know, theirs stuff, instantly,
[4:26] Speaker 1: trying to shoot all the different angles. Everyone's trying to
[4:28] Speaker 1: be creative and the name of the game is just
[4:30] Speaker 1: to get your video out first so that you can
[4:32] Speaker 1: capture those early views. And then after all of that,
[4:36] Speaker 1: there's a bunch of breakout sessions. So if you are
[4:39] Speaker 1: invited to these things, you get to kind of talk
[4:42] Speaker 1: to the people that really work on these products very intimately,
[4:46] Speaker 1: like the people that make the iPhone all the different things,
[4:49] Speaker 1: and so you get to talk to them and really
[4:51] Speaker 1: understand sort of whatever's behind the headlines.
[4:55] Speaker 2: So it's really really fun.
[4:56] Speaker 1: I've been going to them for fifteen years now, and
[4:59] Speaker 1: every single time Apple does this a little bit more,
[5:02] Speaker 1: and it's they open up themselves just a little bit
[5:05] Speaker 1: more to sort of letting us inside the whole world
[5:10] Speaker 1: of Apple.
[5:10] Speaker 2: Every year it's a little bit more anyway. So what
[5:12] Speaker 2: do we have this year?
[5:13] Speaker 3: All right?
[5:13] Speaker 2: We've got three main.
[5:15] Speaker 1: Models, iPhone seventeen, the iPhone Air that's the new one,
[5:19] Speaker 1: and the iPhone seventeen Pro, and that of course comes
[5:23] Speaker 1: in two sizes, the Pro and the Pro Max. So
[5:25] Speaker 1: if you want to think about it another way, there
[5:27] Speaker 1: is no Plus model this year. The Air is replacing
[5:31] Speaker 1: the Plus model, So the iPhone seventeen comes in one size.
[5:34] Speaker 1: The iPhone Air comes in one size. iPhone seventeen is
[5:37] Speaker 1: about I think it's a I got to look at
[5:39] Speaker 1: the I'm.
[5:39] Speaker 2: Gonna get through there.
[5:40] Speaker 1: Hold on six point three inch screen, that's right, and
[5:42] Speaker 1: then iPhone Air is a six point five inch screen.
[5:45] Speaker 1: Then the iPhone seventeen Pro has two screen sizes six
[5:48] Speaker 1: point three and six point nine. So if you want
[5:51] Speaker 1: the largest phones, you got to go with the Air
[5:53] Speaker 1: or the Pro Max. Let's talk about the Air first,
[5:58] Speaker 1: since this is Apple's brand new model, Apple's thinnest phone ever,
[6:02] Speaker 1: just five point six millimeters thin. Yes, it is super thin.
[6:06] Speaker 1: It's got a six point five inch screen, like I said,
[6:09] Speaker 1: and it is thin.
[6:11] Speaker 2: It's light.
[6:12] Speaker 1: You do sacrifice a couple of features for this thinness,
[6:15] Speaker 1: and that is namely the camera. You're only getting one
[6:18] Speaker 1: forty eight megapixel lens, so there's no ultra wide, there's
[6:21] Speaker 1: no dedicated telephoto lens. That doesn't mean that you can't
[6:24] Speaker 1: zoom in. Apple says you get two times optical quality zoom,
[6:28] Speaker 1: which means they have enough megapixels to sort of crop
[6:30] Speaker 1: in and still get a really good two X shot.
[6:34] Speaker 1: But beyond that, it's going to be digital only zoom.
[6:36] Speaker 1: And they talked a lot about this phone and the
[6:38] Speaker 1: durability of this device, and even showed us some of
[6:41] Speaker 1: the testing facilities or some of the ways they test
[6:44] Speaker 1: these devices for durability, and yeah, it's pretty durable. It
[6:49] Speaker 1: does come with the A nineteen Pro chip, which I
[6:52] Speaker 1: know means nothing to you, but that is their highest
[6:54] Speaker 1: end chip right now. So they had an option they
[6:56] Speaker 1: could have put in a lesser chip, but they know
[6:59] Speaker 1: they put in their highest end chip, the same one
[7:01] Speaker 1: that's in the iPhone seventeen Pro models, which is a
[7:04] Speaker 1: really good sign. So you're not sacrificing a ton with
[7:07] Speaker 1: this device, maybe just the extra camera lenses. Now, the
[7:11] Speaker 1: thing that people are wondering about is the battery life.
[7:14] Speaker 1: Is the battery life going to be good on this
[7:16] Speaker 1: iPhone Air because it's super thin As we found out
[7:19] Speaker 1: on Samsung's Galaxy S twenty five Edge, battery life not
[7:23] Speaker 1: so great because it's too thin and the battery is
[7:26] Speaker 1: really small. Now in the iPhone, Apple does not give
[7:28] Speaker 1: you the battery sizes in millionp hours, So we don't
[7:32] Speaker 1: know what it is just yet until someone cracks this
[7:34] Speaker 1: thing open and looks at it. But we do know
[7:36] Speaker 1: that Apple is a pro at managing battery life, and
[7:41] Speaker 1: so they swear that the battery life is going to
[7:43] Speaker 1: be really good on here, but we'll see. But they
[7:45] Speaker 1: did come out with a magnetic battery pack that's nice
[7:47] Speaker 1: and thin and light that attaches to the back. So
[7:50] Speaker 1: who's this for. This is for someone that wants something
[7:52] Speaker 1: that's sleek, that's different. I mean, it really is an
[7:55] Speaker 1: amazing device, but it's not necessarily for the photography buffs
[7:59] Speaker 1: out that's going to start at one thousand dollars for
[8:02] Speaker 1: a two hundred and fifty six gigabyte model. That is
[8:06] Speaker 1: the new storage baseline for all of their models, all right. Now,
[8:10] Speaker 1: for the iPhone seventeen, this is a six point three
[8:13] Speaker 1: inch screen and the big upgrade here is one hundred
[8:17] Speaker 1: and twenty hurtz refresh rate. This is something that we
[8:20] Speaker 1: have wanted on the base level iPhone for many many years.
[8:23] Speaker 1: They call it promotion. It's been available on the higher
[8:25] Speaker 1: end models, it's been available on androids. Now it is
[8:28] Speaker 1: finally on the iPhone seventeen entry level model, which is
[8:31] Speaker 1: a huge upgrade. That means when you're scrolling, when you're
[8:35] Speaker 1: watching movies, everything's going to look buttery smooth, and yeah,
[8:39] Speaker 1: promotion it's going to look much more professional, much more
[8:42] Speaker 1: higher end than before. The other thing they added is
[8:44] Speaker 1: in anti glare coating. We first saw this on the
[8:47] Speaker 1: Galaxy S twenty five Ultra. It just makes the screen
[8:50] Speaker 1: so much easier to read in bright light. So this
[8:53] Speaker 1: phone is going to be much more premium than past
[8:56] Speaker 1: entry level models. You do get two lens this year,
[8:58] Speaker 1: the Ultra wide lens and again that same sort of
[9:02] Speaker 1: two x optical zoom quality lens that the iPhone Air has.
[9:07] Speaker 1: Then they also have a new selfie camera. This is
[9:10] Speaker 1: across all the models. It is now an eighteen megapixel
[9:14] Speaker 1: square sensor. What does that mean. It means you can
[9:17] Speaker 1: hold the phone any way you want, horizontal or vertical,
[9:21] Speaker 1: and it will automatically adjust based on how many people
[9:24] Speaker 1: are in the frame. So it uses AI to see
[9:26] Speaker 1: if it's one person in the frame, if it's a
[9:28] Speaker 1: group of people in the frame, if it's two people,
[9:31] Speaker 1: and it will make the photo. There's four ways you
[9:34] Speaker 1: can take it. You can take it horizontal, you can
[9:36] Speaker 1: take it vertical, you can take it just solo, which
[9:39] Speaker 1: is more close in, or you can take a wide
[9:41] Speaker 1: group shot and the AI is going to adjust all
[9:43] Speaker 1: of that for you no matter how you're holding the phone,
[9:46] Speaker 1: but you also have the option of adjusting that yourself. Now,
[9:50] Speaker 1: the processor here is slightly lower tier. It's not the
[9:53] Speaker 1: A nineteen Pro, it's just the A nineteen, but still
[9:56] Speaker 1: going to be plenty powerful for everyday use.
[9:58] Speaker 2: They did add faster.
[9:59] Speaker 1: Wire less charging, which is really nice. Your phone's gonna
[10:02] Speaker 1: charge up faster again. Two hundred and fifty six gigabytes
[10:05] Speaker 1: of base storage. This phone starts at eight hundred dollars.
[10:10] Speaker 1: It comes in five colors. You've got lavender, you've got
[10:12] Speaker 1: missed blue, you've got sage, you've got white, you've got plaque.
[10:16] Speaker 1: All Right, I'm gonna take a break. We're gonna talk
[10:19] Speaker 1: about the iPhone seventeen Pro when we come back. That's
[10:22] Speaker 1: the powerhouse phone, the one that I really like. It's
[10:25] Speaker 1: available in two sizes, and it's got Apple's biggest battery ever.
[10:30] Speaker 1: We'll talk more about the colors you can get in,
[10:32] Speaker 1: including a brand new cosmic orange right here on rich
[10:36] Speaker 1: On Tech. If you want to get me a call
[10:37] Speaker 1: eighty to eight rich one oh one eighty eight seven
[10:40] Speaker 1: four to two four one zero one. This is rich
[10:43] Speaker 1: On Tech. All right, iPhone seventeen pro. This is the
[10:55] Speaker 1: Powerhouse available in two sizes, six point three and six
[10:58] Speaker 1: point nine, so you get your choice smaller or large,
[11:01] Speaker 1: and it's basically the same features across the board. It's
[11:05] Speaker 1: got this new design on the back, so this two
[11:08] Speaker 1: tone back design which has a ceramic glass square, so
[11:14] Speaker 1: they moved sort of all the stuff up to the
[11:16] Speaker 1: top of the phone, and the camera they call it
[11:18] Speaker 1: the camera plateau now is at the top of the phone,
[11:21] Speaker 1: and it's not just a square anymore. It sort of
[11:23] Speaker 1: goes across the whole back of the top there. This
[11:27] Speaker 1: also has the biggest battery ever in an iPhone. Apple
[11:30] Speaker 1: is claiming up to two more hours of video playback.
[11:32] Speaker 1: I mean, it already did really well, but more battery
[11:35] Speaker 1: life is always going to be better. And they said
[11:37] Speaker 1: that they got that more battery life because they moved
[11:39] Speaker 1: so many of the components to the top of that device.
[11:42] Speaker 1: They filled almost the entire back with the battery. And
[11:44] Speaker 1: then they've got this new vapor chamber cooling system. We've
[11:47] Speaker 1: heard of this term before with Samsung, not so much
[11:51] Speaker 1: with Apple, but now they're making a big deal out
[11:53] Speaker 1: of it because there is vapor chamber, which basically takes
[11:57] Speaker 1: the heat from the center of the phone andipates it
[12:00] Speaker 1: out to the edges of the phone so that it
[12:03] Speaker 1: can cool off quicker. So during heavy gaming, video editing,
[12:07] Speaker 1: anytime you're using your phone a lot, it should remain
[12:09] Speaker 1: cooler under pressure, as I say. And then you've got
[12:12] Speaker 1: the best camera system on the iPhone available. You've got
[12:16] Speaker 1: a triple forty eight megapixel camera system. Now it's weird
[12:20] Speaker 1: because the optical zoom is now down to four times.
[12:23] Speaker 1: It used to be five times, but now you can
[12:25] Speaker 1: actually zoom optical quality up to eight times.
[12:29] Speaker 2: So what does that mean.
[12:30] Speaker 1: It just means that the camera captures more information now.
[12:35] Speaker 1: So Apple is getting a better zoom than they did before,
[12:39] Speaker 1: even at the higher zoom levels, if that makes sense.
[12:44] Speaker 1: And the top of the line zoom now is forty
[12:46] Speaker 1: times digital zoom versus twenty five before.
[12:50] Speaker 2: So you know, still testing this stuff.
[12:52] Speaker 1: So we're gonna see if the camera photos are better,
[12:55] Speaker 1: but I am assuming they are because Apple definitely steps
[12:57] Speaker 1: it up a notch every year. Also, this has the
[13:01] Speaker 1: top tier a nineteen pro chip. The storage again starts
[13:05] Speaker 1: at two hundred and fifty six gigabytes. The price did
[13:07] Speaker 1: go a little bit higher. So it now starts at
[13:08] Speaker 1: eleven hundred dollars, which is one hundred dollars higher than
[13:11] Speaker 1: last year, but you're getting double the storage, so I
[13:14] Speaker 1: guess you can justify it there. Now, the Promax they
[13:17] Speaker 1: have a massive two terabyte version at two thousand dollars.
[13:22] Speaker 2: That is a lot, but you can store a lot
[13:25] Speaker 2: on that phone.
[13:25] Speaker 1: Colors Cosmic orange is the headlining color. Not for me,
[13:29] Speaker 1: but you know if you like that color, go ahead.
[13:31] Speaker 1: Deep blue is the one that I really like. And
[13:33] Speaker 1: then they have a silver which is kind of just
[13:35] Speaker 1: their standard silver white color.
[13:37] Speaker 2: So across the.
[13:37] Speaker 1: Lineup, no matter which phone you get this year, you're
[13:40] Speaker 1: getting that anti reflective display, which is going to be
[13:42] Speaker 1: a nice edition. You're getting the one hundred and twenty
[13:45] Speaker 1: hrtz refresh rate, which is going to be standard on
[13:47] Speaker 1: all phones.
[13:48] Speaker 2: That's a nice edition.
[13:49] Speaker 1: The redesigned selfie camera, eighteen megapixel square censor, you're getting that.
[13:54] Speaker 1: Apple made a point to say people took five hundred
[13:57] Speaker 1: billion selfies on the iPhone last year. And then you're
[13:59] Speaker 1: getting two hundred and fifty six gigabytes of storage across
[14:03] Speaker 1: the board, no more one hundred and twenty eight gigabytes
[14:06] Speaker 1: entry level. So if you're thinking of upgrading, this is
[14:09] Speaker 1: a pretty good year for the upgrades.
[14:11] Speaker 2: So which one do you want?
[14:12] Speaker 1: The iPhone Air Ultra Thin, You're gonna probably trade a
[14:15] Speaker 1: little bit in battery life, a little bit in camera.
[14:17] Speaker 1: iPhone seventeen gonna be the sweet spot for most people.
[14:19] Speaker 1: You get great features at eight hundred dollars iPhone seventeen Pro,
[14:23] Speaker 1: you get the best battery, you get the best cameras,
[14:26] Speaker 1: the most powerful processor. It's going to be more expensive,
[14:28] Speaker 1: but that's for people that really want the best of
[14:31] Speaker 1: the best. So Apple did a great job this year,
[14:34] Speaker 1: and to be quite honest, you know, I would argue
[14:38] Speaker 1: that at this point the gap between iPhone and Android, like,
[14:42] Speaker 1: Apple has fixed almost all of the issues that Android
[14:45] Speaker 1: people had with Apple, you know, the refresh rate and
[14:48] Speaker 1: the camera and this, and the widgets and that, and
[14:51] Speaker 1: so it's really become a device that's in some ways
[14:54] Speaker 1: better than Android because you have such a great amount
[14:58] Speaker 1: of people using this device, and the apps and accessories
[15:02] Speaker 1: are just unmatched. You can't get that many apps and
[15:06] Speaker 1: accessories for the Android side of things. So it's just
[15:08] Speaker 1: a really good package altogether. All right, let's see if
[15:13] Speaker 1: we can answer Carmen's question in Hollywood.
[15:16] Speaker 4: You're on with Rich Yes, good morning, thank you for
[15:19] Speaker 4: taking my call. I have a problem on my Google Docs.
[15:25] Speaker 2: Okay, I create.
[15:27] Speaker 4: I have a lot of a lot of folders, okay, Google.
[15:31] Speaker 4: But lately I figured it out one Google doc and
[15:35] Speaker 4: it was okay. And the last two days I tried
[15:40] Speaker 4: to open Google Dolls and let me open. He doesn't
[15:43] Speaker 4: say why, and it's nowhere I can go to click.
[15:48] Speaker 4: I don't see anywhere to go. What I did is
[15:51] Speaker 4: to finally, after I was playing on it, I ended
[15:55] Speaker 4: up copying and paste into a new for them staying
[16:00] Speaker 4: folder and then I left her thinking that it was
[16:03] Speaker 4: going to be okay. But when I try to see
[16:06] Speaker 4: it again, it happens the same. So there's no way
[16:10] Speaker 4: for me to open, and there's no way for me
[16:12] Speaker 4: to sink anymore. And it says you can be able
[16:15] Speaker 4: to sink anymore and sebord.
[16:18] Speaker 1: Okay, sounds like you're out of storage. So Google Docs
[16:21] Speaker 1: is completely cloud based. You got to free up your
[16:24] Speaker 1: storage that you can save and create new documents. So
[16:27] Speaker 1: go to one dot Google dot com, tap where it
[16:31] Speaker 1: says storage and you'll go into Google Drive and you'll
[16:35] Speaker 1: see it says cleanup space. And you want to go
[16:38] Speaker 1: into your Google Drive and get rid of some of
[16:40] Speaker 1: those big folders, those big documents. It will show you
[16:44] Speaker 1: your large files just to lead a couple of those
[16:46] Speaker 1: and hopefully Google Docs should work again. Also great shortcut
[16:50] Speaker 1: to know docs dot new Docs dot new will create
[16:54] Speaker 1: a new document instantly in Google Docs. Everything saved quickly
[16:57] Speaker 1: to the cloud. That's probably what your problem is. Eighty
[17:00] Speaker 1: eight Rich one oh one eighty eight seven four to
[17:02] Speaker 1: two four one zero one. Joining me now is Brian Tong,
[17:11] Speaker 1: tech creator on YouTube and he was one of the
[17:15] Speaker 1: people at the Apple event along with myself.
[17:17] Speaker 2: Brian, Welcome to the show.
[17:19] Speaker 5: Thanks for having me Rich Happy, happy to be here
[17:21] Speaker 5: always man.
[17:22] Speaker 1: So let's talk about the event. You were there, what
[17:25] Speaker 1: was your initial impression.
[17:27] Speaker 5: Well, I think going into it initially we were I
[17:30] Speaker 5: feel like, going into it, maybe because we hear a
[17:32] Speaker 5: lot of the rumors, we're like, it'll it'll be a
[17:34] Speaker 5: hull hum. You're like little incremental improvements. And I think
[17:37] Speaker 5: the improvements were still incremental, but at the same time,
[17:40] Speaker 5: I think they definitely impressed us with the design and
[17:43] Speaker 5: engineing of the air A lot of people can see
[17:47] Speaker 5: pictures of it, you can see videos of it. Until
[17:49] Speaker 5: you actually hold this thing in your hand, it's going
[17:52] Speaker 5: to hit different. And once you do, I think that's
[17:54] Speaker 5: gonna instantly change a lot of minds or make their
[17:57] Speaker 5: buying decision a lot harder than they expected to. So
[18:01] Speaker 5: the air really stood out from just an engineering and
[18:03] Speaker 5: design perspective, even when we've seen a thin phone from
[18:06] Speaker 5: Samsung already Apples is it hits different? Overall though, I
[18:10] Speaker 5: think it was nice upgrades across the line, and I
[18:13] Speaker 5: think the biggest takeaway, the sleeper of this entire announcement
[18:16] Speaker 5: is the iPhone seventeen, the base model entry level has
[18:20] Speaker 5: become my number one recommendation for anyone who's thinking of
[18:24] Speaker 5: upgrading a phone.
[18:25] Speaker 1: Now, yeah, I mean that's the thing. They finally put
[18:29] Speaker 1: the finishing touches on every device across the lineup. Like
[18:32] Speaker 1: there used to be some sacrifices if you went with
[18:35] Speaker 1: the standard iPhone, and now that you're getting the promotion,
[18:39] Speaker 1: which is at higher refresh rate, the faster charging, the
[18:44] Speaker 1: better camera, the selfie camera. It's really now just a
[18:47] Speaker 1: choice of like how much do you want to spend,
[18:49] Speaker 1: what features do you want, like, what's a priority to you,
[18:52] Speaker 1: because the iPhone Air is also really compelling as long
[18:56] Speaker 1: as the battery life you know, works out. I'm not
[18:58] Speaker 1: sure on that part just yet, but as long as
[19:00] Speaker 1: that's a good thing. I mean, they really loaded that
[19:04] Speaker 1: with the features that you might not have expected, like
[19:06] Speaker 1: the pro chip, the pro display, Wi Fi seven, I mean,
[19:11] Speaker 1: all these different things that they just really did a
[19:13] Speaker 1: nice job on, except for the camera, but that's to
[19:16] Speaker 1: be expected. You know, no one's figured out how to
[19:18] Speaker 1: put a really good camera lens or triple lenses on
[19:22] Speaker 1: a device that thing yet not yet.
[19:24] Speaker 5: And it's gonna happen, right This is just the first
[19:27] Speaker 5: iteration of this design. Also just you know, in a way,
[19:31] Speaker 5: Apple kind of reclaiming a little bit of its juice
[19:34] Speaker 5: to say, hey, we've heard that people don't really consider
[19:38] Speaker 5: us on the same level of design as we used
[19:40] Speaker 5: to be. I think the iPhone era has reinvigorated that conversation,
[19:44] Speaker 5: like okay, okay, Apple's still here and this is going
[19:47] Speaker 5: to most likely lead to other products in the future,
[19:50] Speaker 5: and really just the design language that we expect to
[19:52] Speaker 5: see moving forward. But to your point, it's a really
[19:55] Speaker 5: compelling lineup from a standpoint of before, when someone would
[19:59] Speaker 5: ask me what phone to consider, I would kind of
[20:02] Speaker 5: not point them in the direction of the base model
[20:04] Speaker 5: at all, just because when you talk about the sacrifices,
[20:06] Speaker 5: the screen basically was not a modern display compared to
[20:09] Speaker 5: what every other phone manufacturer had. We harped an Apple
[20:12] Speaker 5: for not having a one hundred and twenty herz refresh rate.
[20:15] Speaker 5: Now it's here, so we can't complain about it anymore, and
[20:17] Speaker 5: now you have that. I look at how most people
[20:20] Speaker 5: use their phone. Do most people really need need tell
[20:25] Speaker 5: a true optical telephoto lens and go up to the
[20:28] Speaker 5: pro Do they need to shoot the highest level fidelity
[20:31] Speaker 5: of video that professional cinematographers use in pro resra? The
[20:35] Speaker 5: answer is no. But before I used to lean you
[20:38] Speaker 5: might want to look at the pro. Now no, I'm saying,
[20:41] Speaker 5: let's talk about what the seventeen does. And then if
[20:45] Speaker 5: you want to maybe take a more adventurous and want
[20:50] Speaker 5: to go with maybe a high level design, look at
[20:52] Speaker 5: the air knowing there's a couple sacrifices, but it's still
[20:54] Speaker 5: a pro level phone. And then if you really want
[20:57] Speaker 5: all the pro features, go to the iPhone pro level.
[21:00] Speaker 5: So I don't say this every year, but this is
[21:03] Speaker 5: one of the more compelling lineups that Apple has from
[21:05] Speaker 5: a purchasing decision. Yeah, we've seen before.
[21:09] Speaker 1: Totally agree with that, because, yeah, I used to push
[21:11] Speaker 1: people towards the Pro models just because it would smooth
[21:14] Speaker 1: over anything that might not be so good on the
[21:17] Speaker 1: seventeen or the entry level model without exactly explaining why.
[21:21] Speaker 1: Like I knew that the refresh rate, but it's really
[21:23] Speaker 1: tough to explain to someone like, oh, this has a
[21:26] Speaker 1: lesser refresh rate, Like what does that mean to the
[21:28] Speaker 1: average person. I can see it, you can see it,
[21:31] Speaker 1: but then when the average person's now using it, it's like, oh, wait,
[21:33] Speaker 1: this feels just as premium as the top of the
[21:36] Speaker 1: line phone. And the anti reflective I think is a
[21:40] Speaker 1: nice addition as well. I think the two hundred and
[21:42] Speaker 1: fifty six gigabytes of base storage is also a huge improvement.
[21:47] Speaker 1: And the fact that they didn't really raise prices, especially
[21:50] Speaker 1: on the iPhone seventeen. I mean, the air is brand new,
[21:53] Speaker 1: but they kept it under a thousand bucks, which is
[21:54] Speaker 1: pretty incredible. And then the seventeen Pro we got a
[21:57] Speaker 1: little price bump, but you know that's be expected because
[22:00] Speaker 1: they did raise the storage on that one as well. So, uh,
[22:04] Speaker 1: like you said, I think of very compelling your what
[22:07] Speaker 1: colors are? Well, let me ask you about the selfie camera.
[22:10] Speaker 1: What do you think about that? Because I'm not convinced.
[22:13] Speaker 5: You're not You're not convinced. So I'm gonna tell you
[22:15] Speaker 5: this rich out of when I left the keynote, I
[22:18] Speaker 5: thought that was the most compelling feature of the entire announcement.
[22:23] Speaker 5: And it seems subtle, right. This is something that when
[22:27] Speaker 5: I look at when Apple announced this ability to hold
[22:30] Speaker 5: your selfie camera in this portrait vertical position. But now
[22:33] Speaker 5: this camera has versatility where it can auto detect or
[22:37] Speaker 5: you can do it manually to now change it to
[22:39] Speaker 5: landscape without you physically rotating that phone awkwardly reaching for
[22:43] Speaker 5: the camera button, fiddling with it just to get a
[22:47] Speaker 5: shot of your entire family all in one spot. This
[22:50] Speaker 5: is one of those sil I don't want to call
[22:52] Speaker 5: it silly, but quality of life improvements that I think
[22:55] Speaker 5: rich give me, give me a two weeks or a
[22:59] Speaker 5: month with you on that. I'm gonna I think you're
[23:01] Speaker 5: gonna come back to me, Like Brian, that feature is
[23:03] Speaker 5: actually pretty cool. It's I love it. I love it.
[23:08] Speaker 2: I'm still not convinced.
[23:09] Speaker 1: I hold my phone as I always have horizontally for
[23:12] Speaker 1: selfies for many, many years. I actually don't think I've
[23:15] Speaker 1: ever taken a selfie vertically.
[23:17] Speaker 5: Hold on, ever, we're talking about social media on.
[23:20] Speaker 1: You never, no, I'll yes, I'll square it off. I
[23:24] Speaker 1: know I will always. And it's funny because I watch
[23:27] Speaker 1: people struggle. Now I see what you're saying, because I
[23:30] Speaker 1: do watch people struggle to take a selfie vertically to
[23:33] Speaker 1: fit everyone in the frame. So I have no doubt
[23:35] Speaker 1: that Apple knew that, and that's why they made it
[23:38] Speaker 1: so that it automatically pulls back, adjust the framing and
[23:41] Speaker 1: fits more people in that front facing lens even when
[23:44] Speaker 1: you are vertically holding your phone. And that's great, and
[23:47] Speaker 1: I think for people that take a selfie that way,
[23:49] Speaker 1: it's going to be an amazing, welcome edition. For me,
[23:53] Speaker 1: because I take my selfies the other way. There's really
[23:56] Speaker 1: almost no benefit to this new feature because I'm so
[23:59] Speaker 1: used to holding my phone that way anyway, and that's
[24:01] Speaker 1: my preference. So I've tried already, you know, with a
[24:05] Speaker 1: little bit of hands on time to like take it vertically,
[24:08] Speaker 1: and it's a struggle. But it's again, it's different for me,
[24:11] Speaker 1: but again I think for people that are already taking.
[24:13] Speaker 2: It that way, it will be better.
[24:15] Speaker 5: This is what reminds me and you and I come
[24:17] Speaker 5: from a similar generation of when I refused, I admiantly
[24:22] Speaker 5: refused this idea of vertical video.
[24:25] Speaker 2: Oh yeah, of.
[24:25] Speaker 5: Course, unacceptable, unacceptable. But over time just the culture ended
[24:35] Speaker 5: up really adopting vertical video.
[24:37] Speaker 2: And why do they do it?
[24:38] Speaker 5: Really out of convenience, out of not having to turn
[24:41] Speaker 5: your phone, sacrificing some of the frame, but now reframing
[24:45] Speaker 5: photos and videos in a different way to you know,
[24:49] Speaker 5: compliment this convenience of just holding your phone there. So
[24:52] Speaker 5: that's I think that there's a little bit of that
[24:55] Speaker 5: in what you're saying right now.
[24:57] Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, we'll say you're right. Yeah, I can see that. No,
[25:00] Speaker 2: I know, and you're you're right.
[25:01] Speaker 1: I was against vertical video because I'm a TV guy
[25:04] Speaker 1: and I you know, horizontal videos how you shoot for TV.
[25:07] Speaker 1: But like you said, when we all first started getting phones,
[25:11] Speaker 1: you know, you'd flip it to the side. Now we're
[25:13] Speaker 1: just too lazy. It's like, no, I just want to
[25:14] Speaker 1: watch this this way that I'm holding my phone already
[25:16] Speaker 1: and it makes sense because you know, I get it
[25:18] Speaker 1: if you're watching a movie or something like that. Fine,
[25:21] Speaker 1: but okay, we'll see what happens there, all right, So
[25:23] Speaker 1: tell me, we've got about a minute left. Tell me
[25:25] Speaker 1: about the channel. What do you cover your podcast? All
[25:28] Speaker 1: that good stuff?
[25:29] Speaker 5: Just YouTube dot com, slash Briantong. You and I have
[25:32] Speaker 5: been cats in this game for a while. I'll cover
[25:34] Speaker 5: everything from Apple to Google, the Samsung, to the culture
[25:37] Speaker 5: of tech, maybe if it relates to pop culture, behind
[25:40] Speaker 5: the scenes at Disney, the NBA, and how the youth technology.
[25:43] Speaker 5: I'm just the tech fan. Feel so fortunate we've been
[25:45] Speaker 5: able to live and grow up and see this evolution.
[25:48] Speaker 5: It's incredible. And if you want to check it out,
[25:50] Speaker 5: YouTube dot com slash briantong.
[25:51] Speaker 3: Is where you go.
[25:52] Speaker 2: And you've got a podcast, got.
[25:54] Speaker 5: A podcast called the Applebits XL. We dive deep into
[25:57] Speaker 5: all things Apple and the greater tech cole and uh yeah,
[26:00] Speaker 5: you can find me and so you know we're doing everything.
[26:02] Speaker 5: Oh also ces hosting.
[26:04] Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I.
[26:05] Speaker 5: Don't like talking about myself, but you're making me talk
[26:06] Speaker 5: about myself. Cees also very fortunate to be able to
[26:10] Speaker 5: host that show with I justin so you know, if
[26:13] Speaker 5: you're in the tech space or you're new to it,
[26:15] Speaker 5: come on and check it out and I'll be nice
[26:17] Speaker 5: to you.
[26:17] Speaker 2: It's it's coming up.
[26:18] Speaker 1: I mean, you know, we're only in September, but it's
[26:20] Speaker 1: like I booked my hotel rooms now because you know,
[26:23] Speaker 1: you got it. It's coming up in January, one of
[26:26] Speaker 1: the biggest tech events of the year. All right, Brian Tong,
[26:28] Speaker 1: thanks so much for joining me. By the way, we
[26:31] Speaker 1: also have AirPods Pro three and Apple Watches. We didn't
[26:33] Speaker 1: even talk about them, but there's I still got to
[26:35] Speaker 1: get there. Still got a lot going on there. All right,
[26:38] Speaker 1: Brian Tong, thanks so much for joining me today.
[26:39] Speaker 2: Really appreciate it.
[26:40] Speaker 1: I'll link everything up all of Brian's socials on the
[26:43] Speaker 1: website rich on Tech dot TV. All right, coming up, Yes,
[26:47] Speaker 1: I'm going to tell you more about the Apple stuff,
[26:50] Speaker 1: AirPods Pro three. We've got three new models of the
[26:54] Speaker 1: Apple Watch, all updated this year.
[26:56] Speaker 2: We'll get to that.
[26:57] Speaker 1: And yes, I will give you an update on my
[27:00] Speaker 1: personal life this week. Yeah, I will talk about that
[27:04] Speaker 1: coming up right here on rich on Tech. First off,
[27:12] Speaker 1: let's talk about Apple Watch. So all three models got
[27:15] Speaker 1: an update this year. This is if you're thinking about
[27:17] Speaker 1: updating any of your Apple stuff upgrading, this is the
[27:20] Speaker 1: year to do it. Because Apple is firing on all cylinders.
[27:24] Speaker 1: They have upgraded just about everything that was the little
[27:27] Speaker 1: annoyances of all the products. It's all fixed. I mean really,
[27:30] Speaker 1: I'm not sure what they can do after this. So
[27:32] Speaker 1: all the iPhones are getting or the Apple Watch, they're
[27:35] Speaker 1: getting five G. So all the connectivity issues people had
[27:38] Speaker 1: with LTE gone five G now five G support. So
[27:42] Speaker 1: the se three this is the entry level Apple Watch.
[27:45] Speaker 1: It starts at two hundred and fifty dollars. It's got
[27:46] Speaker 1: a new chip inside, so it's gonna be faster, it's
[27:49] Speaker 1: got stronger glass so it's gonna be more durable, and
[27:52] Speaker 1: it now supports fast charging, so that means you can
[27:55] Speaker 1: charge this thing way faster, eight hours of use from
[27:58] Speaker 1: an eight minute charge, and then it's got the eighteen
[28:01] Speaker 1: hour battery life. So see, if you're looking for that
[28:03] Speaker 1: for your kids, that's the best model for the kids.
[28:07] Speaker 1: It always it hasn't always on display too for the
[28:09] Speaker 1: first time, which means you don't have to rotate your
[28:11] Speaker 1: wrist to see the screen. It's it's always on, So
[28:14] Speaker 1: that's gonna be great. Just make sure you go cellular
[28:16] Speaker 1: if you're getting it for your kids, if you want
[28:17] Speaker 1: to keep track of them and you know, not have
[28:19] Speaker 1: a phone nearby. Now, the series eleven, this is sort
[28:22] Speaker 1: of the standard you know Apple Watch that you think about.
[28:25] Speaker 1: They now have hypertension alerts built into this, so it
[28:29] Speaker 1: will alert you to possible high blood pressure patterns. No,
[28:33] Speaker 1: it's not taking a live reading. There's no cuff for calibration.
[28:36] Speaker 1: It just runs in the background and when it's checking
[28:38] Speaker 1: all your heart stuff, it's sort of looking for an
[28:41] Speaker 1: algorithm that says, uh, you might want to check for hypertension.
[28:45] Speaker 1: And so they expect to notify a million people this
[28:48] Speaker 1: year about hypertension that didn't even realize they had it
[28:51] Speaker 1: or possibly have it let's see. Of course, also has
[28:54] Speaker 1: the ECG, the irregular heart you know, rhythm notification, sleep apnea,
[28:59] Speaker 1: all that's stuff. And then it's got a bigger battery
[29:02] Speaker 1: now up to twenty four hours instead of eighteen because
[29:05] Speaker 1: they want you to sleep with this thing on. So
[29:06] Speaker 1: that's why the battery life is better. You can charge it,
[29:09] Speaker 1: wear it to bed, get through that eight hours of sleep.
[29:11] Speaker 1: Hopefully you're getting eight hours of sleep starting price three
[29:14] Speaker 1: ninety nine. There on the series eleven, also again with
[29:17] Speaker 1: five G. Then you've got the Ultra. This is kind
[29:20] Speaker 1: of the rugged, tough Apple Watch out there. It's got
[29:22] Speaker 1: a bigger screen thanks to thinner borders, so same case size,
[29:27] Speaker 1: now three D printed, which is wild. It's going to
[29:30] Speaker 1: be brighter outside. It's got new watch faces, which is fine.
[29:34] Speaker 1: But the big headline here is built in satellite connectivity.
[29:38] Speaker 1: So now you can satellite message for an emergency or
[29:43] Speaker 1: just through my message when you're out and about and
[29:44] Speaker 1: there's no cellular so that's wild. Let's see yeah, Apples,
[29:50] Speaker 1: this is their watch for they say, athletes and explorers.
[29:54] Speaker 1: So the other thing about the SE I wanted to
[29:56] Speaker 1: mention is that the let's see here. Oh, they're also
[29:59] Speaker 1: added a sleep score, so now it's going to score
[30:02] Speaker 1: your sleep too, which I mean, is just so much
[30:04] Speaker 1: going on with these watches. The Apple Watch SE, the
[30:07] Speaker 1: entry level model is also getting the ability to play
[30:10] Speaker 1: media through the speaker. So if you want to play
[30:12] Speaker 1: like a podcast just while you're on a walk or something,
[30:15] Speaker 1: or listen to the radio, whatever, you can just listen
[30:17] Speaker 1: right through the speaker that's on it all right. AirPods
[30:20] Speaker 1: Pro three these are a major update. So now they
[30:25] Speaker 1: have a new design with five eartip sizes and there's
[30:28] Speaker 1: foam inside, so they've got a much more secure fit
[30:31] Speaker 1: than before. Sound quality is better, noise cancelation is better,
[30:35] Speaker 1: and the transparency mode, which means you can hear the
[30:37] Speaker 1: people around you, doesn't sound as like mechanical. It sounds
[30:40] Speaker 1: now much more natural. They also have a live translation
[30:44] Speaker 1: feature that they've built in which basically, if someone is
[30:46] Speaker 1: talking to you in a different language, you can listen
[30:48] Speaker 1: in your ears in the language that you understand. And
[30:51] Speaker 1: I did get a demo of that. It worked nicely.
[30:53] Speaker 1: We'll see how that works in real life. They also
[30:55] Speaker 1: built in heart rate sensors into the AirPods themselves, so
[31:00] Speaker 1: you can track workouts without needing an Apple Watch. You
[31:03] Speaker 1: can go on a run, you can go on whatever
[31:04] Speaker 1: you want, and it's going to track fifty different types
[31:07] Speaker 1: of workouts. With just the air Pods Pro. You'll see
[31:10] Speaker 1: your heart rate and your calories burned, which is pretty
[31:13] Speaker 1: wild and the same price as before two hundred and
[31:16] Speaker 1: fifty dollars eight I mean.
[31:18] Speaker 6: Oh.
[31:18] Speaker 1: They also increase the sweat and dust resistance so again,
[31:22] Speaker 1: just some really really nice upgrades here.
[31:24] Speaker 2: I think Apple is just on a tear and.
[31:27] Speaker 1: At this point it's almost getting tough to catch up
[31:30] Speaker 1: to them because they've got so much capital, so much
[31:33] Speaker 1: engineering talent, and such a wide swath of people using
[31:39] Speaker 1: these products, and not to mention all the Apple stores
[31:42] Speaker 1: everywhere for service and support and sales. So it's getting
[31:45] Speaker 1: to the point where, yeah, the Android stuff is great,
[31:48] Speaker 1: and I've always loved Android and I think it's amazing.
[31:50] Speaker 1: But like Apple has a story now where you can
[31:54] Speaker 1: use your AirPods, you can use your Apple Watch, you
[31:55] Speaker 1: can use your iPhone, you can use your MacBook, you
[31:57] Speaker 1: can use your iPad. They all work really well together.
[32:01] Speaker 1: And by the way, there's a million and one accessories.
[32:03] Speaker 1: And by the way, if you need help, you can
[32:04] Speaker 1: go to a store. And by the way, if you
[32:06] Speaker 1: need software, you can download it. So it's gotten to
[32:08] Speaker 1: the point where it's just so good. I feel like
[32:11] Speaker 1: it's getting tough for rivals to catch up now. I
[32:14] Speaker 1: think the Pixel from Google is an amazing phone, the
[32:16] Speaker 1: Pixel ten. I've been using the Pixel ten pro XL
[32:20] Speaker 1: and it's amazing, but the video is nowhere near what
[32:24] Speaker 1: the iPhone does, and the accessories are nowhere near what
[32:27] Speaker 1: the iPhone has, and the speed is nowhere near what
[32:30] Speaker 1: the iPhone has. So again, it's just that they've done
[32:34] Speaker 1: a lot of stuff that's really good. And I think
[32:36] Speaker 1: this year I really have no qualms with almost anything.
[32:39] Speaker 1: So if you're thinking, like Rich, do I want to upgrade?
[32:42] Speaker 1: I think this is the year to do it all right,
[32:44] Speaker 1: So eighty eight Rich one oh one eighty eight seven
[32:48] Speaker 1: four to two four one zero one. Everything's linked up
[32:51] Speaker 1: on the website. This is episode number one thirty nine,
[32:55] Speaker 1: So if you go to Rich on tech dot TV,
[32:57] Speaker 1: you can get the show notes for episode one thirty
[32:59] Speaker 1: nine and everything I talked about is right there. You
[33:01] Speaker 1: can watch my stories from TV on all these things
[33:04] Speaker 1: I went hands on with all these gadgets, and all
[33:06] Speaker 1: my thoughts are there as well. I did want to
[33:09] Speaker 1: mention before the end.
[33:10] Speaker 2: Of the hour here.
[33:11] Speaker 1: So I was in a serious car accident this week
[33:13] Speaker 1: and it was scary. I was coming back from the
[33:16] Speaker 1: Apple event, I was going to work and you know,
[33:19] Speaker 1: as I always do every single day, and it was
[33:22] Speaker 1: just really really fast that it happened. It's just I
[33:27] Speaker 1: can't tell you what it feels like because it was
[33:30] Speaker 1: so fast, it was so loud, it was so jarring
[33:34] Speaker 1: that at the same time I knew what happened, and
[33:37] Speaker 1: I didn't know what happened. And of course the airbags
[33:40] Speaker 1: went off instantly, which just you know, adds to the situation.
[33:44] Speaker 2: My ears were ringing. It was at the.
[33:46] Speaker 1: Same time so loud and then so silent right after
[33:51] Speaker 1: because it was almost in the middle of the night
[33:52] Speaker 1: that this happened. And then I as soon as I
[33:55] Speaker 1: realized I was like in the middle of an intersection.
[33:57] Speaker 1: Of course, I was worried about another car coming at me,
[34:00] Speaker 1: and so I slid out of my car like it
[34:03] Speaker 1: was just like reflex at this point where I like
[34:05] Speaker 1: just found the door opened the door. When I realized,
[34:07] Speaker 1: I was like, you know, my limbs and everything were
[34:10] Speaker 1: all intact. I just you will go into autopilot, right
[34:14] Speaker 1: like my brain was just working on adrenaline and like instinct,
[34:19] Speaker 1: and so I opened up the door. I slid out
[34:21] Speaker 1: through the bottom of the door because all the airbags
[34:24] Speaker 1: were around me and those things are hard. By the way,
[34:28] Speaker 1: It's just a moment I will never ever forget. Being
[34:30] Speaker 1: in the darkness of the night and just it was
[34:32] Speaker 1: silent but this loud, crazy thing just happened anyway. Overall,
[34:38] Speaker 1: you know, I was bruised, I'm sore, I had cuts
[34:41] Speaker 1: on me, I was bleeding, ringing ears. My ears are
[34:43] Speaker 1: still ringing. Went to the er for hours getting checked out.
[34:46] Speaker 1: But my takeaway here is number one. I'm alive, and
[34:50] Speaker 1: I'm not kidding when I tell you I am surprised.
[34:54] Speaker 1: I'm here, to be honest. If you see the picture
[34:56] Speaker 1: I posted to my Instagram in my car, it is
[34:58] Speaker 1: just really, really bad.
[35:01] Speaker 2: This is my second chance at.
[35:02] Speaker 1: This world, and I'm going to make the most of
[35:05] Speaker 1: it because I cannot believe what happened and how quickly
[35:08] Speaker 1: life can change.
[35:10] Speaker 2: So just keep that in mind.
[35:12] Speaker 1: Eighty eight Rich one oh one eighty eight seven four
[35:15] Speaker 1: to two four one zero one. This is Rich on Tech.
[35:21] Speaker 1: Let's go to Jim in northern Arizona. Jim, you're on
[35:25] Speaker 1: with Rich.
[35:26] Speaker 6: Hey, Rich, i'd hi from Presco Valley again.
[35:29] Speaker 2: Hello, welcome back.
[35:30] Speaker 6: I'm so glad you're okay. That photo of your car
[35:33] Speaker 6: was something to see.
[35:34] Speaker 2: Boy, Yeah, something to be in too.
[35:37] Speaker 6: Yeah. I imagine. I currently use a password manager across
[35:42] Speaker 6: multiple Windows devices and iOS devices, and I'm getting more
[35:46] Speaker 6: and more prompts to switch to pass key, and I
[35:49] Speaker 6: wasn't quite sure how that would work across multiple devices,
[35:53] Speaker 6: Windows and PCs and iOS. And could I still use
[35:59] Speaker 6: my user idea password if I switched to it?
[36:02] Speaker 2: Good question.
[36:03] Speaker 1: So pass keys are the new way to log in
[36:07] Speaker 1: that uses sort of a digital handshake with the device
[36:11] Speaker 1: that you're on. It exchanges a little token and it
[36:14] Speaker 1: replaces the password. Now, I will tell you in my experience,
[36:17] Speaker 1: and I've set up a couple of these pass keys.
[36:20] Speaker 1: When they work, they're amazing. But here's the thing that
[36:23] Speaker 1: I've noticed, and a lot of these websites are pushing
[36:26] Speaker 1: hard for passkeys, and Jim, I think you're doing the
[36:28] Speaker 1: right thing by using a universal password manager that works
[36:32] Speaker 1: across all of your devices. Because many of the password managers,
[36:35] Speaker 1: like a bit Warden or a dash Lane or a
[36:38] Speaker 1: one password, a lot of them can handle pass keys.
[36:41] Speaker 1: But also your Windows computer can do pass keys, and
[36:45] Speaker 1: Chrome can do pass keys, and iOS can do passkeys.
[36:49] Speaker 1: So what I've noticed is that when the past key
[36:51] Speaker 1: prompt comes up, it's trying to ping all these different
[36:56] Speaker 1: ways of getting that pass key, because unlike a password,
[37:00] Speaker 1: you can have a pass key for different devices and
[37:02] Speaker 1: this is where it gets a little bit confusing. So
[37:06] Speaker 1: let's just use home Depot as an example. Let's say
[37:08] Speaker 1: you go to the home Depot website and it says, hey,
[37:10] Speaker 1: would you like to set up a pass key, and
[37:11] Speaker 1: you go sure. It puts a little piece of data
[37:15] Speaker 1: wherever you save that pass key, so it could be
[37:17] Speaker 1: on your Windows computer, it could be through your password manager,
[37:21] Speaker 1: it could be through your Apple computer, could be through
[37:23] Speaker 1: your iOS passwords app. So wherever you store that, it
[37:27] Speaker 1: stays there and then it's used the next time. So
[37:30] Speaker 1: not only could you use your password manager, but you
[37:32] Speaker 1: could also have a pass key on your phone. You
[37:34] Speaker 1: could also have a pass key on your laptop. You
[37:36] Speaker 1: could have a pass key on your tablet. And so
[37:40] Speaker 1: it gets a little confusing to use these, But I
[37:43] Speaker 1: guess my advice is to try it out with a
[37:46] Speaker 1: website that you don't really care about too much, like
[37:49] Speaker 1: a home Depot. Sorry home Depot, I mean, you know
[37:52] Speaker 1: what I mean. Any website that's just you know, you're
[37:54] Speaker 1: not not like your Google like. Maybe start with one
[37:56] Speaker 1: of these other websites just to get a flavor of it.
[37:59] Speaker 1: And once you set up the pass key, logging in
[38:01] Speaker 1: is pretty easy because however you typically log into your
[38:04] Speaker 1: computer is how you would authorize that pass key. So,
[38:09] Speaker 1: for instance, if you're on your phone and you try
[38:12] Speaker 1: to log in with a pass key and you use
[38:13] Speaker 1: a password manager, all you have to do is just
[38:15] Speaker 1: use face ide or your fingerprint reader for your to
[38:18] Speaker 1: open up your password manager and it would just exchange
[38:21] Speaker 1: that pass key. So you're not typing anything in, you're
[38:24] Speaker 1: not copying and pasting, it's not filling in a password.
[38:27] Speaker 1: And the beauty of past keys is that they're not
[38:31] Speaker 1: easily hacked because you can go to a phishing website
[38:35] Speaker 1: and copy and paste your password in there, or in
[38:38] Speaker 1: the worst case scenario, your password manager gets tricked and
[38:41] Speaker 1: it pasts that password in there and you log in
[38:44] Speaker 1: and next thing you know, they're stealing your information past key.
[38:48] Speaker 1: It's really, really almost nearly impossible for that to happen
[38:52] Speaker 1: because the website has to exchange a special token with
[38:58] Speaker 1: your password manager to get that pass key back, and
[39:01] Speaker 1: so it is much more secure in that aspect, and
[39:04] Speaker 1: there's no nothing to forget, there's nothing to remember. So
[39:07] Speaker 1: can you use pass keys in addition to your password? Yes,
[39:11] Speaker 1: So even if you use a pass key, you can
[39:13] Speaker 1: still log in with your old password the old fashioned way.
[39:16] Speaker 1: The thing that I've noticed that makes this a little
[39:19] Speaker 1: bit tricky is two factor authentication. So on my major websites,
[39:24] Speaker 1: of course, I have two factor authentication turned on. So
[39:29] Speaker 1: pass keys are supposed to be super smooth and seamless.
[39:33] Speaker 1: Where let's say you go to that home Depot website,
[39:36] Speaker 1: you log in, it says passkey, you tap pass key,
[39:39] Speaker 1: it pings your password manager, Your password manager asks you
[39:42] Speaker 1: for your face ID, You do your face ID, and
[39:44] Speaker 1: it sends that pass key to home Depot and you
[39:47] Speaker 1: get logged in. That's the way it should work, really
[39:49] Speaker 1: fast and easily. But if you have two factor authentication
[39:53] Speaker 1: set up, it's probably still going to text you that
[39:57] Speaker 1: code for two factor authentication, so it's still a little
[40:00] Speaker 1: extra step to log into those websites. So for me personally,
[40:06] Speaker 1: as much as I want to recommend past keys and
[40:08] Speaker 1: I think you should try them, and I do think
[40:09] Speaker 1: they're easy when they work, I'm not completely convinced just
[40:13] Speaker 1: yet in the ease of use for the average person
[40:16] Speaker 1: because it is a little confusing because literally, when I
[40:19] Speaker 1: go to certain websites, I'm not kidding. On my desktop computer,
[40:23] Speaker 1: my MacBook, I have my password manager pops up to
[40:26] Speaker 1: offer up the to save the pass key, then my
[40:29] Speaker 1: Chrome pops up to ask to save the pass key,
[40:33] Speaker 1: and then my MacBook offers to save the pass key
[40:36] Speaker 1: or to push the pass key through. So it's like
[40:39] Speaker 1: all these things kind of competing, and I think you'd
[40:41] Speaker 1: have to probably go into settings and make sure that
[40:43] Speaker 1: you turn off all these other ways of saving things.
[40:46] Speaker 2: But it's it's a little complicated.
[40:48] Speaker 1: So I guess the long answer, Jim is that try them,
[40:53] Speaker 1: see how they work out for you. Try them on
[40:55] Speaker 1: some low stakes websites. But I do have them set
[40:59] Speaker 1: up for a bunch of my Way websites that I
[41:01] Speaker 1: regularly log into, and when it works, it's amazing.
[41:04] Speaker 2: Because it's so fast and it's so easy.
[41:07] Speaker 1: But I just and I guess I don't want to
[41:09] Speaker 1: wish the two factor authentication away, but at the same time,
[41:12] Speaker 1: it is that extra layer of well, why is this
[41:15] Speaker 1: easier than just my password being entered? But I think
[41:18] Speaker 1: at the end of the day, the ease comes from
[41:21] Speaker 1: the fact that it's not easily phished. Nobody can say, hey,
[41:26] Speaker 1: can you tell me your pass key? It's just not
[41:28] Speaker 1: possible you can't verbally speak a pass key like you
[41:32] Speaker 1: can a password, and I think at that moment that's
[41:35] Speaker 1: what makes it way more secure for the average person
[41:39] Speaker 1: is you can't be tricked into sharing this pass key.
[41:42] Speaker 1: So Windows supports passkeys, Apple supports passkeys, Android supports pass keys,
[41:48] Speaker 1: one password, dash Lane, Bitwarden, you can do it all.
[41:51] Speaker 1: If you want to set a pass key up, go
[41:53] Speaker 1: to your website that you want to set it up
[41:55] Speaker 1: for log in the old fashioned way with your password.
[41:57] Speaker 1: Go to your account settings, look for passy. It's somewhere
[42:00] Speaker 1: in there. Tap create and make sure you save that
[42:04] Speaker 1: pass key in a place where you can retrieve it.
[42:07] Speaker 2: And it's not a big deal.
[42:08] Speaker 1: If you can't, like retrieve that passkey later, you can
[42:11] Speaker 1: still use your password to log in. I think there's
[42:13] Speaker 1: a little confusion there. And there is a website, this
[42:16] Speaker 1: Fido Alliance, which tells you all the different websites that
[42:20] Speaker 1: support passkeys, and it's a lot. I mean, I'm looking
[42:24] Speaker 1: through Adobe, Amazon, Bank of America, Best Buy, Bitwarden, BMW,
[42:31] Speaker 1: City Bank, CVS, Coinbase. I mean, these are just the
[42:35] Speaker 1: c's eBay. So if you want to try it on
[42:38] Speaker 1: one of these websites, go to this, I'll put this
[42:41] Speaker 1: in the show notes, this Fido Alliance passkeys directory. So again,
[42:45] Speaker 1: try it on a low stakes website. So go to
[42:48] Speaker 1: something like I said, like a home depot or an
[42:51] Speaker 1: eBay or a kayak and just set up a passkey
[42:53] Speaker 1: and see what the process is like, and then log
[42:55] Speaker 1: out and log back in and see if it makes
[42:58] Speaker 1: life a little bit easier for you. So according to this,
[43:02] Speaker 1: let's see, there's one hundred and fifty nine websites that
[43:07] Speaker 1: support this right now in their directory. There may be more,
[43:09] Speaker 1: but big companies like Verizon and Walmart are all this
[43:12] Speaker 1: to hear Yahoo, So again, try it out, see what
[43:15] Speaker 1: it's like. Good question, Jim, And yes, you can use
[43:18] Speaker 1: them across devices. My recommendation is to use them in
[43:23] Speaker 1: your password manager. Whatever you're using for your password manager,
[43:26] Speaker 1: that's where you want to set up and save your
[43:27] Speaker 1: pass keys. The one thing I do not recommend do
[43:31] Speaker 1: not use your pass word manager for your two factor
[43:34] Speaker 1: authentication codes. A lot of the password managers let you
[43:38] Speaker 1: also save two factor authentication codes for your websites.
[43:42] Speaker 2: Do not do that.
[43:42] Speaker 1: I don't recommend it because if someone was ever to
[43:45] Speaker 1: get in to your password manager. Now they not only
[43:48] Speaker 1: have your passwords, but they also have your two factor
[43:51] Speaker 1: authentication codes. So for that reason, I recommend a third
[43:55] Speaker 1: party two factor authentication code manager, and the one I
[43:58] Speaker 1: love is called Proton Authenticator. It has every single feature
[44:04] Speaker 1: that I want in a two factor authentication app, which
[44:08] Speaker 1: namely is if you want to use it locally on
[44:10] Speaker 1: your devices, you can, but if you want to use
[44:13] Speaker 1: it across all your devices, you can. If you want
[44:16] Speaker 1: to import keys from another.
[44:19] Speaker 2: App, you can do that.
[44:20] Speaker 1: If you want to export all of your codes to
[44:22] Speaker 1: another app you want to move you find something better
[44:24] Speaker 1: that comes along, you can do that. So Proton has
[44:27] Speaker 1: really made a slick authentication app that is completely free
[44:32] Speaker 1: and it does everything you need. Why is it free, Rich, Well,
[44:35] Speaker 1: because they want you to discover how amazing this app
[44:37] Speaker 1: is for free. And then you say, let me check
[44:39] Speaker 1: out what Proton's all about. I like what they're doing here,
[44:41] Speaker 1: I like the design. It's clean, it's slick, it's really
[44:44] Speaker 1: really well done. So let me see what else they offer.
[44:47] Speaker 1: And yes, they offer a whole bunch of other stuff.
[44:49] Speaker 1: They offer Proton pass which is their password manager, their
[44:52] Speaker 1: VPN mail which is super secure, drive calendar. So They've
[44:57] Speaker 1: got a whole bunch of stuff that they offer, and
[44:59] Speaker 1: it's that hey low effect. You go into Proton Authenticator
[45:02] Speaker 1: and next thing you know, using Proton mail, using Proton vpn.
[45:06] Speaker 1: That's the name of the game there. And I believe
[45:08] Speaker 1: Proton vpn actually has a free level too. I think
[45:10] Speaker 1: it's one of the few VPNs with a free level
[45:14] Speaker 1: of service. Proton Yeah, free vpn, one device, no ads,
[45:19] Speaker 1: no logs, unlimited and free forever. So if you're looking
[45:22] Speaker 1: for a free VPN, protonvpn dot com check it out.
[45:26] Speaker 2: All right, I'll link this all up on the website.
[45:28] Speaker 1: Rich on tech dot TV eight at eight seven four
[45:32] Speaker 1: to two four one zero one the website rich on
[45:35] Speaker 1: tech dot tv. More of your calls and the new
[45:38] Speaker 1: robotaxi option in Las Vegas coming up right after this,
[45:45] Speaker 1: let's go to Lisa in Long Beach.
[45:48] Speaker 2: You're on with Rich.
[45:50] Speaker 6: Hi.
[45:50] Speaker 7: Rich, I too had a car accident this year and
[45:54] Speaker 7: we're lucky to be alive. I'm glad i'm talking to you.
[45:57] Speaker 1: Well, I'm glad you're talking to me as well. Thank
[45:59] Speaker 1: you for that. What can I help you with?
[46:02] Speaker 7: Okay, so a simple question. I have a Pixel nine
[46:06] Speaker 7: pro I got it like in January. Ever since I've
[46:09] Speaker 7: had it, I've never seen it downloads an update because
[46:13] Speaker 7: it always stops in the middle and says you have
[46:16] Speaker 7: to start all over again connecting your wireless. And when
[46:20] Speaker 7: I look at my wireless connector, it always says saved,
[46:25] Speaker 7: check password and try again. Oh okay, and otherwise I
[46:30] Speaker 7: have I have unlimited wireless with AT and T, So
[46:35] Speaker 7: I'm totally confused of what is being downloaded. And I'm
[46:39] Speaker 7: at sixteen at Android sixteen. Isn't that where you're.
[46:42] Speaker 8: Supposed to be?
[46:43] Speaker 1: Yeah, that's Android sixteen. You're you're good there, Okay, So
[46:45] Speaker 1: a couple things here. Number One, it doesn't typically like
[46:50] Speaker 1: to download the software updates over cellular. It will in
[46:54] Speaker 1: a pinch, I believe, but it mostly wants Wi Fi
[46:56] Speaker 1: because they're usually pretty sizable. So it sounds like your
[47:01] Speaker 1: Wi Fi is not properly connected on this device. So
[47:05] Speaker 1: saved check password means that it's trying to use the
[47:09] Speaker 1: password and it's not working, and so it's actually not
[47:11] Speaker 1: connected to that Wi Fi network. And so what you
[47:14] Speaker 1: want to do is go into your settings. Okay, do
[47:18] Speaker 1: you want to follow alonger you on your phone?
[47:20] Speaker 7: Well, I'm on my sittings that I've done this like
[47:23] Speaker 7: ten times.
[47:24] Speaker 2: Okay password, Oh okay, well, let me let me walk
[47:28] Speaker 2: you through it.
[47:28] Speaker 7: If I try again just to see what's going on.
[47:30] Speaker 1: Okay, well, let me walk you through what I think
[47:32] Speaker 1: you should do, and then I'll give you a couple
[47:33] Speaker 1: of solutions that will probably fix this forever. But it
[47:37] Speaker 1: doesn't require throwing your phone out the window, all right.
[47:41] Speaker 1: So you go into your settings, you go to network
[47:43] Speaker 1: and Internet, and then it says internet wireless. You tap there,
[47:46] Speaker 1: and where you have your wireless connection you want to connect,
[47:50] Speaker 1: tap the little it looks like a little gear icon
[47:54] Speaker 1: and you want to forget the network completely, and that
[47:57] Speaker 1: way you are starting fresh.
[47:59] Speaker 2: With this network.
[48:00] Speaker 1: And then I would restart your phone and go back
[48:03] Speaker 1: in and connect to that network using that password. And
[48:05] Speaker 1: if it says you know, connected, then your password worked.
[48:10] Speaker 1: If it says problem, then that password is not working.
[48:12] Speaker 1: That's number one. And in the upper right hand corner
[48:15] Speaker 1: of your phone, you should see the five G or
[48:17] Speaker 1: four G replaced with a little WiFi indicator, so that
[48:21] Speaker 1: means that everything is working now. If that's not working,
[48:25] Speaker 1: the next level of what I would do is go
[48:27] Speaker 1: down into your.
[48:30] Speaker 2: Let's see system. I gotta find where this is.
[48:32] Speaker 1: Okay, system under settings and then there's something called reset options,
[48:36] Speaker 1: and there's an option called reset Bluetooth and Wi Fi,
[48:41] Speaker 1: and so I would do that, and that's going to
[48:43] Speaker 1: wipe all of your Wi Fi settings clean. It's going
[48:46] Speaker 1: to wipe all of your Bluetooth connections clean, and you're
[48:49] Speaker 1: going to have to re log in to your Wi
[48:51] Speaker 1: Fi networks no matter where you are, work, home, and
[48:54] Speaker 1: you're also going to have to reconnect your Bluetooth.
[48:56] Speaker 2: And if that.
[48:57] Speaker 1: Doesn't work, which by the way, should fix like ninety
[49:01] Speaker 1: nine point nine percent of problems that people have, you
[49:04] Speaker 1: can do what's called a factory reset. Now, with with
[49:08] Speaker 1: pixel phones, pretty much everything's backed up to the clouds.
[49:11] Speaker 1: You're not going to lose much data, if any at all.
[49:13] Speaker 2: You shouldn't.
[49:14] Speaker 1: But what you can do is that factory reset will
[49:18] Speaker 1: reset this phone back to the factory conditions. Any little bugs,
[49:21] Speaker 1: any little issues that are lingering, will all be cleaned
[49:24] Speaker 1: up and fixed. And in that way, you can then
[49:27] Speaker 1: reset your phone up. You're gonna have to log in,
[49:29] Speaker 1: you're gonna have to download all your stuff again, but
[49:31] Speaker 1: your phone should work. The other thing I would say
[49:34] Speaker 1: to do is there's something that people don't do on
[49:37] Speaker 1: the on the Android side of things, and there is
[49:41] Speaker 1: a let's see where is it here? Okay, I gotta
[49:45] Speaker 1: find it. They moved it a system and updates here
[49:47] Speaker 1: it is. So there's not only a security update a
[49:51] Speaker 1: system update on the Androids, but there's also a Google
[49:53] Speaker 1: Play system update, and so check for that one. That
[49:56] Speaker 1: one adds new features to your phone. I just checked
[49:58] Speaker 1: it online. I got a ninety three megabyte download. So
[50:01] Speaker 1: a lot of people think that there's just the software update,
[50:04] Speaker 1: but there's also what's called a Google Play System update
[50:07] Speaker 1: available on your Android. So if you're listening, you got
[50:09] Speaker 1: an Android, go into your settings right now and check
[50:12] Speaker 1: for this. This is where Google pushes out a lot
[50:15] Speaker 1: of their new features. So go into settings and then
[50:18] Speaker 1: you'll see where it says let's see here system No sorry,
[50:23] Speaker 1: Security and Privacy, and then it says system and updates,
[50:27] Speaker 1: and then you say Google Play System update.
[50:29] Speaker 2: Check for system update there, download and install.
[50:31] Speaker 1: It'll restart your phone and that adds new features to
[50:34] Speaker 1: your Android phone without a full system software update. So
[50:38] Speaker 1: on the Android phones, you've got three places to look
[50:41] Speaker 1: for software updates. Number one. The operating system that's called
[50:44] Speaker 1: your system update number two, New Google Features that's called
[50:48] Speaker 1: the Google Play System Update number three App updates that's
[50:52] Speaker 1: inside the Play Store, so three places. If you're having
[50:55] Speaker 1: any issues with your phone whatsoever, you always want to
[50:58] Speaker 1: download all those software ups dates, restart your phone, and
[51:01] Speaker 1: see if your phone works properly. Again, Lisa, it sounds
[51:05] Speaker 1: like the connection issue is just a mistaken password in
[51:08] Speaker 1: this instance, but it could also be that it's something's
[51:11] Speaker 1: just lingering from that Wi Fi connection and you need
[51:14] Speaker 1: to clean up that Wi Fi connection and it should
[51:17] Speaker 1: work better. Good question. Thanks for the call today. I
[51:20] Speaker 1: love the Pixel phones. They last seven years, seven years
[51:22] Speaker 1: of software updates. So don't think that because it's not working,
[51:26] Speaker 1: it's it's ruined forever. Believe me, you can just reformat
[51:29] Speaker 1: that phone. It'll work great. I know that's the last
[51:32] Speaker 1: ditch resort. You don't want to do that. You know,
[51:34] Speaker 1: first chance, you don't want to do that as the
[51:36] Speaker 1: first step. Thanks for the call, Lisa. Eighty to eight
[51:39] Speaker 1: rich one oh one eight eight eight seven four to
[51:41] Speaker 1: two four one zero one. If you're going to Las Vegas,
[51:45] Speaker 1: you have a new option for a ROBOTAXI Amazon's Zekes
[51:49] Speaker 1: self driving cars are now roaming the streets. Rides are
[51:53] Speaker 1: free because guess what, you are the beta tester, so
[51:56] Speaker 1: you can download the Zookes app on iOS and Android.
[51:59] Speaker 1: The vehicles have no steering wheel, no pedals, no driver's
[52:03] Speaker 1: seat inside. It's face to face to the other riders.
[52:07] Speaker 1: So again, these are now in Las Vegas. Zeokes zo
[52:12] Speaker 1: x look it up eight eight eight rich one O
[52:16] Speaker 1: one eight eight eight seven four to two four one
[52:18] Speaker 1: zero one rich On Tech. Back after this, Welcome back
[52:25] Speaker 1: to rich On Tech. Rich Demiro here hanging out with you,
[52:28] Speaker 1: talking technology at Triple eight rich one one eight eight
[52:32] Speaker 1: eight seven four to two four one zero one.
[52:35] Speaker 2: We will get back to the phone lines in just
[52:37] Speaker 2: a moment.
[52:38] Speaker 1: But first, while I was up at Apple, I had
[52:41] Speaker 1: the opportunity to interview Cayenne Rants. She is Apple's vice
[52:46] Speaker 1: president of worldwide iPhone product Marketing. She's talking all about
[52:50] Speaker 1: the big iPhone seventeen announcements, including Apple's thinnest iPhone yet.
[52:55] Speaker 1: Let's talk about the iPhone air al Ris is the
[52:58] Speaker 1: headline stealing thinnest phone yet from Apple. Didn't think it
[53:03] Speaker 1: could get any thinter So how much work went into
[53:06] Speaker 1: making this phone.
[53:06] Speaker 9: Oh my goodness.
[53:07] Speaker 10: Well, as you saw, we had to make a whole
[53:09] Speaker 10: bunch of rethinking as to how we were going to
[53:12] Speaker 10: do this design. And it is the thinnest iPhone ever,
[53:15] Speaker 10: but it's got that pro performance inside and it's unbelievably
[53:18] Speaker 10: thin and light.
[53:19] Speaker 9: You got to pick it up to feel it.
[53:20] Speaker 10: Yet it's really durable, right. We talked about how it's
[53:23] Speaker 10: more durable than any previous iPhone, and that includes our
[53:26] Speaker 10: choice and materials like titanium, some great engineering into being
[53:30] Speaker 10: able to put all the components in that top camera
[53:33] Speaker 10: plateau area to save even more room for battery life.
[53:36] Speaker 10: So k'all came together, I think explain.
[53:39] Speaker 1: That term camera plateau is the first time I heard it. Yes,
[53:42] Speaker 1: makes sense, like a little mountain on the phone.
[53:44] Speaker 10: It's that top cart where the camera lives, right, And
[53:47] Speaker 10: so for the first time, we've precision milled that out
[53:49] Speaker 10: and we're putting even more advanced technologies. In fact, the
[53:53] Speaker 10: A nineteen prochip lives in that top area for the
[53:56] Speaker 10: first time, and that's one of the reasons why we're
[53:59] Speaker 10: able to the great performance of the phone and still
[54:02] Speaker 10: retain a lot of great space for battery life and
[54:04] Speaker 10: everything else. One thing that if I didn't mention yet,
[54:07] Speaker 10: the pro motion display being across the lineup, that's a
[54:10] Speaker 10: great everyday benefit.
[54:11] Speaker 1: Can you explain that in like an average consumer term,
[54:14] Speaker 1: because it's like it's it's kind of a tough thing
[54:15] Speaker 1: to understand. What does that mean exactly that the promotion
[54:18] Speaker 1: display has come to the base model.
[54:20] Speaker 10: Yeah, so we've only typically had pro motion on our
[54:23] Speaker 10: pro models, so this year the first time it's going
[54:25] Speaker 10: to be.
[54:26] Speaker 9: On iPhone seventeen.
[54:27] Speaker 10: And so what that is is as you're scrolling through
[54:30] Speaker 10: content like you're looking.
[54:31] Speaker 9: In Safari on a website, you're reading something, it's.
[54:34] Speaker 10: Going to give you this really adaptively smooth refresh rate
[54:37] Speaker 10: even to follow how fast you're scrolling. And when you're
[54:40] Speaker 10: watching movies, it's going to match the frame rate needed
[54:43] Speaker 10: and so in some cases it can save battery life also,
[54:46] Speaker 10: but it looks great because you're scrolling.
[54:48] Speaker 9: It looks great on the eyes.
[54:50] Speaker 10: And the other great thing in addition to promotion is
[54:52] Speaker 10: all our displays are brighter, so you can get even
[54:55] Speaker 10: brighter content when you're outdoors, and we've added an anti
[54:58] Speaker 10: reflective coding to reduce that glare when you're outside and
[55:01] Speaker 10: your iPhone goes with you everywhere, and it's also three
[55:04] Speaker 10: times better resistance to scratching, which is a great everyday benefit.
[55:08] Speaker 1: As you can imagine, how does the average consumer decide
[55:11] Speaker 1: between the Air and another model of the iPhone at
[55:14] Speaker 1: this point?
[55:15] Speaker 10: Sure, well, I think one of the easiest things to
[55:17] Speaker 10: think about is, like I said, the iPhone Air has
[55:20] Speaker 10: that pro performance but in this thin and light design.
[55:23] Speaker 10: And so if you go in and you pick that
[55:24] Speaker 10: up and that really makes sense to you as the
[55:27] Speaker 10: phone you want, that's great. It still has an advanced
[55:29] Speaker 10: camera system on the back, and all the models this
[55:31] Speaker 10: year have that new center stage front camera selfie.
[55:34] Speaker 9: Experience, so that's the same across the board.
[55:36] Speaker 10: It still has great battery life, and like I said,
[55:39] Speaker 10: it's really durable.
[55:40] Speaker 9: Now, if you're someone who wants the.
[55:42] Speaker 10: Very best iPhone in the world, that would be the
[55:45] Speaker 10: iPhone seventeen Pro or the larger iPhone seventeen Promas we're
[55:48] Speaker 10: pushing performance, camera capabilities, battery life, everything to that very
[55:53] Speaker 10: top level. And if that's something that's important to you,
[55:56] Speaker 10: like you just want to capture every single possible photo,
[55:59] Speaker 10: every single phone length or zoom length, then the iPhone
[56:01] Speaker 10: seventeen pro might be the one for you.
[56:04] Speaker 1: Let's talk about that new selfie camera experience. Sure, it's
[56:07] Speaker 1: going to be a pretty big departure for many people
[56:09] Speaker 1: because you don't have to rotate your phone anymore. How
[56:12] Speaker 1: do you explain the innovation there?
[56:14] Speaker 10: Sure? Well, basically for a user, it just means you
[56:17] Speaker 10: can hold your phone really naturally in that portrait orientation,
[56:21] Speaker 10: and whether it's just you in the frame or suddenly
[56:23] Speaker 10: you've got three other people or more people in the frame,
[56:26] Speaker 10: the phone can automatically detect the faces using AI and it.
[56:30] Speaker 9: Will do like a virtual rotation of.
[56:32] Speaker 10: The phone for you using that innovative new square sensor,
[56:35] Speaker 10: and so that you can get actually four different composition
[56:38] Speaker 10: styles all by holding your phone in the same way.
[56:41] Speaker 10: So you just got a smile, You got a smile,
[56:43] Speaker 10: and your eyes will be right in the frame and
[56:45] Speaker 10: it's just.
[56:46] Speaker 9: Super easy to use.
[56:47] Speaker 1: Is there any sacrifice in terms of quality with the
[56:49] Speaker 1: photos because it's you know, different orientations.
[56:53] Speaker 10: Well, it is up to an eighteen megapixel output, so
[56:56] Speaker 10: it's it's got even higher resolution than before as the
[56:58] Speaker 10: max resolution output, and the quality is fantastic because with
[57:02] Speaker 10: our photonic engine, with our computation, photography, all the software
[57:05] Speaker 10: that we do, it's absolutely great quality, and like I said,
[57:08] Speaker 10: your videos get better.
[57:09] Speaker 9: So if you're doing FaceTime, you're going to stay stable in.
[57:11] Speaker 10: The frame and you've got like action mode type stabilization
[57:15] Speaker 10: when you're recording on the.
[57:16] Speaker 9: Front video too.
[57:17] Speaker 1: I test a lot of phones, a lot of different cameras.
[57:20] Speaker 1: The video on the iPhone is really incredible. The camera
[57:23] Speaker 1: is always something that delivers. So have there been improvements
[57:27] Speaker 1: this year in the camera and video quality that consumers
[57:30] Speaker 1: will notice?
[57:31] Speaker 10: Sure, while all the cameras have our latest camera systems
[57:33] Speaker 10: with the A nineteen or the A nineteen pro chip,
[57:36] Speaker 10: and we're always making improvements across the board, whether it's
[57:39] Speaker 10: color or tuning or things that we do just every
[57:41] Speaker 10: year to make things even better. And of course we
[57:44] Speaker 10: have a new ultra wide camera that's also high resolution
[57:47] Speaker 10: on iPhone seventeen this year, so your zero point five
[57:50] Speaker 10: shots and those wide fun perspectives, your macro photography is
[57:54] Speaker 10: going to get even.
[57:55] Speaker 9: Better detail and quality.
[57:56] Speaker 10: And then on the pros we also have this new
[58:00] Speaker 10: photo right it gets you the four x zoom and
[58:03] Speaker 10: all the way to eight x zoom and now your
[58:05] Speaker 10: digital zoom goes up to forty X, so you're gonna
[58:08] Speaker 10: get closer to the.
[58:08] Speaker 9: Action than ever before. And we talked about having.
[58:11] Speaker 10: Eight pro lens equivalents in your pocket with all the
[58:14] Speaker 10: different framing options. So there's a lot of great things,
[58:16] Speaker 10: but at the end of the day, you just have
[58:18] Speaker 10: to take a great photo because iPhone will help you
[58:20] Speaker 10: do that and you don't.
[58:21] Speaker 9: Have to think too much about it.
[58:23] Speaker 1: And when it comes to storing those photos, two hundred
[58:25] Speaker 1: and fifty six across the board, now that's right, that's
[58:27] Speaker 1: a that's a sizable increase, and I think for consumers
[58:30] Speaker 1: who are consumer, you know, taking so many photos and videos,
[58:34] Speaker 1: that's a pretty good thing.
[58:35] Speaker 9: Yeah, it's great.
[58:35] Speaker 10: And for iPhone seventeen it's two fifty six, which is
[58:38] Speaker 10: double last year storage capacity, but we kept the same
[58:41] Speaker 10: seven ninety nine starting price, so that's a great value.
[58:43] Speaker 10: And now with all the photos and videos you're taking,
[58:45] Speaker 10: as you said, you have more space to store them
[58:48] Speaker 10: on your phone.
[58:49] Speaker 1: You mentioned pricing, How important was it to keep pricing
[58:52] Speaker 1: similar and not you know, have these wild swings with pricing.
[58:56] Speaker 2: Did you put a lot of thought into that this year.
[58:58] Speaker 9: We put a lot of.
[58:58] Speaker 10: Thought into everything and We're really happy where we landed
[59:01] Speaker 10: with the pricing where it is. And the other great
[59:03] Speaker 10: thing is in the US, there's a lot of great
[59:05] Speaker 10: carrier offers and Apple offers. So Apple can offer up
[59:08] Speaker 10: to seven hundred dollars now and being able to go
[59:11] Speaker 10: into trade in an iPhone thirteen or newer and our
[59:14] Speaker 10: carrier partners they actually have up to eleven hundred dollars
[59:17] Speaker 10: off in credit when you trade in an iPhone thirteen
[59:19] Speaker 10: or newer in any condition, and you can go into
[59:22] Speaker 10: an Apple retail store for Apple Online to take advantage
[59:25] Speaker 10: of that too.
[59:26] Speaker 1: When it comes to that upgrade cycle, who do you
[59:28] Speaker 1: think is I know you want everyone's upgrade obviously, but
[59:31] Speaker 1: who do you think is ripe for an.
[59:33] Speaker 2: Upgrade at this point?
[59:33] Speaker 1: If you're rocking an iPhone thirteen fourteen, where do you
[59:37] Speaker 1: think that sweet spot is?
[59:38] Speaker 9: Well, it depends on you, of course, right.
[59:40] Speaker 10: We have people who upgrade every year just because they're
[59:42] Speaker 10: so excited to get the latest.
[59:44] Speaker 9: We know that, you.
[59:45] Speaker 10: Know, all the previous phones were fantastic and have great durability,
[59:48] Speaker 10: so we love that people are able to continue using them.
[59:51] Speaker 10: But if there's something that speaks to you, whether it's
[59:53] Speaker 10: the center stage, front camera, whether it's battery.
[59:55] Speaker 9: Life, whether it's the stunning new designs.
[59:57] Speaker 10: It's a great time with all these great offers to
[1:00:00] Speaker 10: come over and over and upgrade.
[1:00:02] Speaker 1: Now iOS twenty six is also going to launch, and
[1:00:05] Speaker 1: that's going to be a big upgrade for a lot
[1:00:07] Speaker 1: of people. What can they expect to see out of
[1:00:10] Speaker 1: that on their phone that they already have.
[1:00:12] Speaker 10: Sure, well, you have the same kinds of things that
[1:00:15] Speaker 10: you have. You know, some of the things have.
[1:00:17] Speaker 9: A beautiful new look.
[1:00:18] Speaker 10: We have new wallpapers, We have the spatial photos that
[1:00:21] Speaker 10: you can put on the wallpapers and your lock screens for.
[1:00:24] Speaker 9: Just this beautiful look.
[1:00:25] Speaker 10: You have this new looks with liquid glass where everything
[1:00:28] Speaker 10: looks just so seamless, and it goes great with our
[1:00:31] Speaker 10: all of our hardware capabilities as well.
[1:00:33] Speaker 9: And of course we have some updates coming for Apple Intelligence.
[1:00:36] Speaker 10: People have been already using the writing tools and clean up,
[1:00:39] Speaker 10: but now there's live translation, so you can do that
[1:00:41] Speaker 10: in messages, phone and FaceTime. There's enhancements of visual intelligence,
[1:00:45] Speaker 10: so now you can do more like searching for the
[1:00:47] Speaker 10: world around you, learning about places or objects, or adding
[1:00:50] Speaker 10: a poster to an event in your calendar, or using
[1:00:53] Speaker 10: your iPhone screen to search things up on Google or
[1:00:56] Speaker 10: on Etsy or other apps. So there's a lot of
[1:00:58] Speaker 10: great stuff in there, and we think people are going
[1:01:00] Speaker 10: to love that upgrade, and of course they all that
[1:01:02] Speaker 10: all comes with the new phones as well.
[1:01:04] Speaker 1: Any update on AI, some people say that Apple is
[1:01:07] Speaker 1: behind in this. They promise some things. Can you give
[1:01:10] Speaker 1: an update on when we're going to see that next
[1:01:11] Speaker 1: burst of AI features on the iPhone?
[1:01:13] Speaker 10: Well with I was twenty six coming next week with
[1:01:16] Speaker 10: some of the new ones that I mentioned, like the
[1:01:17] Speaker 10: visual intelligence updates, live translation. There'll be some more updates
[1:01:21] Speaker 10: as we go and you know, we talked about we're
[1:01:23] Speaker 10: working hard to bring even more updates as we go on.
[1:01:26] Speaker 10: And our strategy has always been to create something that's advanced,
[1:01:30] Speaker 10: but accessible and easy to use for everyone. So we
[1:01:32] Speaker 10: continue to embed it across our technologies to make it personal, private,
[1:01:36] Speaker 10: and easy to use and to meet you in your
[1:01:38] Speaker 10: everyday life, just in the app.
[1:01:40] Speaker 9: That you need.
[1:01:41] Speaker 1: And finally, I was looking at that iPhone Air. I
[1:01:44] Speaker 1: feel like if you put two of them together, it
[1:01:46] Speaker 1: can almost be a foldable phone. So is this the
[1:01:48] Speaker 1: precursor to something that Apple might be working on the future.
[1:01:51] Speaker 10: Well, I can't comment on the future, but I love
[1:01:53] Speaker 10: your imagination.
[1:01:55] Speaker 2: All right.
[1:01:55] Speaker 1: That was Kayanne Grants from Apple with more on the
[1:01:59] Speaker 1: new iPhones seventeen lineup eighty eight Rich one oh one
[1:02:02] Speaker 1: eighty eight seven four two four one zero one your
[1:02:05] Speaker 1: calls next, Jay, I see you've been.
[1:02:11] Speaker 2: Waiting for over an hour. You're on with Rich.
[1:02:13] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[1:02:14] Speaker 11: I'm glad you're okay from your car accident.
[1:02:16] Speaker 2: Thank you.
[1:02:18] Speaker 11: So my question is, so I I recently went from
[1:02:22] Speaker 11: a fourteen Promax. Who I'm sorry, fifteen Promacs. The battery
[1:02:27] Speaker 11: was I was using it so much that I was
[1:02:30] Speaker 11: going to just replace the battery, but my carrier basically
[1:02:34] Speaker 11: it was only an extra one hundred bucks to go
[1:02:36] Speaker 11: to the sixteen Promax. This was just just a couple
[1:02:39] Speaker 11: of months ago. Really liked the phone, obviously, It's great, battery,
[1:02:43] Speaker 11: life's great. Now I'm seeing all these great things about
[1:02:46] Speaker 11: the seventeen. I've got the you know, literally the last version,
[1:02:52] Speaker 11: And like the previous interviewer you were saying, was, you know,
[1:02:57] Speaker 11: they give a lot of money for these trade backs,
[1:02:59] Speaker 11: so it's really not that expensive. You know, I pay
[1:03:02] Speaker 11: for my phones out right, So I'm wondering in your opinion,
[1:03:05] Speaker 11: would it be worth it to just go ahead and
[1:03:08] Speaker 11: trade this thing in, And you know, with all this
[1:03:10] Speaker 11: new tech with the seventeen, to pull the trigger on that.
[1:03:13] Speaker 2: Well, let's take a look at what you're getting.
[1:03:15] Speaker 1: So first off, you're getting a faster processor, which of
[1:03:17] Speaker 1: course is always nice, but the sixteen is already fast.
[1:03:21] Speaker 1: The big change here is this new vapor chamber that
[1:03:23] Speaker 1: makes the phone stay cooler longer. So that's a nice thing,
[1:03:27] Speaker 1: especially if you're using your phone under any sort of
[1:03:29] Speaker 1: heavy video editing or gaming stuff like that. You've got
[1:03:33] Speaker 1: the brand new design, so if you like the new
[1:03:35] Speaker 1: design of the phone, it's got better scratch resistance on
[1:03:38] Speaker 1: the front and the back, which is nice. Let's see,
[1:03:41] Speaker 1: display is brighter, so you're going to get a brighter
[1:03:43] Speaker 1: display for that money. Longer battery life. So I don't
[1:03:47] Speaker 1: know about your sixteen Promax, but mine the battery life
[1:03:50] Speaker 1: has kind of taken a little hit in recent months,
[1:03:53] Speaker 1: so I'm really hoping that the seventeen Promac is going
[1:03:56] Speaker 1: to be better.
[1:03:56] Speaker 2: I don't know if you notice that or not.
[1:03:59] Speaker 11: Yeah, I had the battery, Like I said, I only
[1:04:03] Speaker 11: got it a couple months ago. The good thing I
[1:04:05] Speaker 11: do like about it is. It charges really.
[1:04:07] Speaker 2: Fast, yes, and you still get that yeah, I mean.
[1:04:10] Speaker 11: Look, yeah, the battery is huge to me.
[1:04:13] Speaker 1: Yeah, well, the battery is supposed to be the best
[1:04:14] Speaker 1: yet ever on the iPhone. It also has a faster
[1:04:19] Speaker 1: charging because now you can use a forty WAT adapter,
[1:04:21] Speaker 1: which is something that you know, many people may not
[1:04:24] Speaker 1: care about, but yeah, if you're trying to get a
[1:04:26] Speaker 1: faster charge, it does charge faster with a forty WAT adapter,
[1:04:28] Speaker 1: but you will need a new adapter before. I think
[1:04:31] Speaker 1: you need a thirty WAT. Now forty WAT for the fastest.
[1:04:34] Speaker 1: You get the new camera system, which of course Apple
[1:04:36] Speaker 1: is always pushing the envelope when it comes to the camera.
[1:04:39] Speaker 1: So you're gonna get the eight times total optical quote
[1:04:43] Speaker 1: quality zoom. And of course it takes in more light
[1:04:46] Speaker 1: because it's got a bigger sensor, so that's nice. The
[1:04:50] Speaker 1: front facing camera is going to be eighteen megapixels versus twelve.
[1:04:53] Speaker 1: You're also going to get to take it, you know,
[1:04:55] Speaker 1: vertical or horizontal. Let's see what else. The base storage
[1:04:59] Speaker 1: is now two fifty six. I'm not sure what you've
[1:05:00] Speaker 1: got on yours right now, but two fifty six is
[1:05:02] Speaker 1: the new base and it's got the new and one
[1:05:05] Speaker 1: chip inside which has Wi Fi seven, the latest Bluetooth,
[1:05:10] Speaker 1: and thread so you've got all that going on. So
[1:05:13] Speaker 1: I would say for a hundred bucks, Jay, I mean,
[1:05:16] Speaker 1: I think it's worth it personally because it sounds like
[1:05:19] Speaker 1: you're someone that's interested in the latest, greatest, and one
[1:05:22] Speaker 1: hundred dollars is really kind of.
[1:05:24] Speaker 2: A no brainer to me for having the latest technology.
[1:05:27] Speaker 11: Yeah, I think you're right.
[1:05:29] Speaker 2: I think I'm gonna pull the trigger on awesome. What
[1:05:31] Speaker 2: color are you gonna go with?
[1:05:33] Speaker 12: Uh?
[1:05:33] Speaker 11: Then I'm gonna go with the orange.
[1:05:34] Speaker 2: I'm from Tennessee's Oh nice.
[1:05:36] Speaker 1: I heard they're gonna they're gonna sell a lot of
[1:05:38] Speaker 1: these in Austin and I guess Tennessee.
[1:05:41] Speaker 11: There you go, Tennessee, Texas.
[1:05:43] Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, Texas. Okay, very cool. Well, Enjoy pre orders
[1:05:46] Speaker 1: are open, so you have that. And how much are
[1:05:48] Speaker 1: they gonna give you for old phone?
[1:05:50] Speaker 11: You know, well, they gave me for the fifteen Promax,
[1:05:53] Speaker 11: they gave me a grand, so oh my god, I'm
[1:05:55] Speaker 11: I'm assuming it's gonna be uh roughly the same. So
[1:05:58] Speaker 11: that basically I paid one hundred bucks and what they
[1:06:00] Speaker 11: make you pay for the tax on the phone, which is,
[1:06:03] Speaker 11: you know, an another seventy bucks, so it's to me
[1:06:06] Speaker 11: that's not But it was a no brainer for me
[1:06:09] Speaker 11: because the battery itself was going to be you know,
[1:06:11] Speaker 11: seventy eighty dollars to replace it.
[1:06:13] Speaker 2: So oh yeah, no.
[1:06:14] Speaker 1: I think this is no brainer. I think easy, easy
[1:06:16] Speaker 1: choice in your life right now. That's that's the easiest
[1:06:19] Speaker 1: choice you'll.
[1:06:19] Speaker 2: Make all year. All right, Jay, well, thanks so much.
[1:06:24] Speaker 2: Enjoy the new phone. Thank you, dickre all right, have
[1:06:26] Speaker 2: a great day.
[1:06:27] Speaker 1: Eighty eight rich one oh one eighty eight seven four
[1:06:30] Speaker 1: to two four one zero one.
[1:06:32] Speaker 12: Uh.
[1:06:32] Speaker 1: Let's see what Rebecca in Los Angeles has going on.
[1:06:37] Speaker 2: Rebecca, you're on with Rich Rich.
[1:06:39] Speaker 8: I enjoy watching you. I KTLA and I love your show.
[1:06:43] Speaker 8: Thank you. I'm calling because my friend lost his phone.
[1:06:47] Speaker 8: It's been missing since Thursday, and we don't know if
[1:06:51] Speaker 8: you had it on Wednesday, but for sure by Thursday
[1:06:53] Speaker 8: was gone. And I've tried to help him find it,
[1:06:56] Speaker 8: going the usual route using the Google Find my Phone,
[1:06:59] Speaker 8: or I called the carrier, Verizon to see if they
[1:07:03] Speaker 8: could help. And it was a Motorola Moto that's the
[1:07:08] Speaker 8: Moto G Play from twenty twenty three. So I called
[1:07:12] Speaker 8: Motorola and they weren't able to help to track it,
[1:07:16] Speaker 8: and I call I sort of went online and to
[1:07:20] Speaker 8: see if I could find like some companies or something
[1:07:24] Speaker 8: that might be able to help to track it. There
[1:07:27] Speaker 8: was one that I kind of put in the phone
[1:07:31] Speaker 8: number and it said it found it. But they were
[1:07:33] Speaker 8: asking for a service, and I wasn't sure, you know
[1:07:37] Speaker 8: how lemble.
[1:07:39] Speaker 2: They were No, don't do that, that's no.
[1:07:43] Speaker 1: The only way that I know to find a lost
[1:07:45] Speaker 1: Android is go to android dot com slash find.
[1:07:49] Speaker 2: He sounds like you already did that, right, I.
[1:07:52] Speaker 8: Think I did. Yeah, okay, so that I can track
[1:07:55] Speaker 8: because I know I went to the Google one to
[1:07:58] Speaker 8: find my phone one. So but you're saying Android, what
[1:08:01] Speaker 8: was the android?
[1:08:02] Speaker 1: Android dot com slash fined And you have to log
[1:08:07] Speaker 1: in with you know, his account and his Google account,
[1:08:12] Speaker 1: and if his phone was linked to his Google account,
[1:08:14] Speaker 1: which it's an Android, it should be, you can tap
[1:08:17] Speaker 1: on that phone and you will find the location. I
[1:08:22] Speaker 1: just did it for my Android, and it shows exactly
[1:08:24] Speaker 1: where it is right now.
[1:08:25] Speaker 2: It shows that it has.
[1:08:25] Speaker 1: Wireless service, the batteries at eighty two percent. You can
[1:08:29] Speaker 1: play a sound, you can secure the device. You can
[1:08:31] Speaker 1: factory reset it. But what do you are you do
[1:08:35] Speaker 1: you think this phone was stolen?
[1:08:37] Speaker 8: So if the battery was dead, do you think it
[1:08:39] Speaker 8: would still be able to track it?
[1:08:41] Speaker 2: It might give you the last known location.
[1:08:44] Speaker 8: So these things what we're looking for, That's what we
[1:08:47] Speaker 8: want to know is where was the last nine?
[1:08:49] Speaker 1: Let me let me look at a phone that I
[1:08:50] Speaker 1: haven't used in a long time. Let's see here, Let's
[1:08:54] Speaker 1: see if it gives me this one. So I'm checking
[1:08:57] Speaker 1: the old Google Pixel nine that I had, and it
[1:09:00] Speaker 1: says contacting device. So I'm not sure if it's going
[1:09:02] Speaker 1: to show me that last location. So that it just
[1:09:06] Speaker 1: just sort of depends. I guess if the phone is
[1:09:08] Speaker 1: still alive. Let's see, can you get the last Yeah,
[1:09:12] Speaker 1: I don't know if you can see it's saying contacting
[1:09:14] Speaker 1: device and it's taken a while. I know it's not
[1:09:18] Speaker 1: going to find it because that phone is nowhere to
[1:09:20] Speaker 1: be found at this point. But yeah, it would be
[1:09:23] Speaker 1: ideal if they showed you the last location, but it
[1:09:25] Speaker 1: may not. The other thing you can think about is
[1:09:27] Speaker 1: if you had like a tile device on there or
[1:09:29] Speaker 1: any other I'm trying to think of. Yeah, see it
[1:09:32] Speaker 1: can't reach the device, so it sounds like it may
[1:09:35] Speaker 1: not show the last known location on these things. It's
[1:09:38] Speaker 1: just kind of doesn't look like it's able to do that.
[1:09:40] Speaker 1: So if it's alive and battery, you might be able
[1:09:44] Speaker 1: to find it. But where does he think he left
[1:09:46] Speaker 1: it somewhere?
[1:09:48] Speaker 8: Yeah, he thinks maybe he lost it at work, because
[1:09:52] Speaker 8: we've tried calling the phone, you know, the usual call
[1:09:54] Speaker 8: of the phone, and we were listening around through through
[1:09:57] Speaker 8: the whole house and in the car and in the
[1:10:00] Speaker 8: i mean everywhere on the property. We were listening for
[1:10:03] Speaker 8: that phone and it didn't ring, and so, you know,
[1:10:06] Speaker 8: he thinks it might have fallen out at work, and
[1:10:09] Speaker 8: so we've been calling it over there. But you know,
[1:10:11] Speaker 8: at this point, we don't know if the battery was
[1:10:14] Speaker 8: dead or if it's an a location where they can't
[1:10:16] Speaker 8: hear it. Bringing.
[1:10:17] Speaker 1: Yeah, he did he have a tile or anything like
[1:10:19] Speaker 1: that attached to that phone, right, No, Okay, say that
[1:10:22] Speaker 1: could be another way or Life three sixty or some
[1:10:24] Speaker 1: of these things. Yeah, I mean, that's that's a tough one.
[1:10:27] Speaker 1: If you can't find it, it might be a total loss.
[1:10:30] Speaker 1: But that's the best way to do at that Android
[1:10:33] Speaker 1: dot Com slash fine day. I think you know, note
[1:10:35] Speaker 1: to Google last location. Let's include that right That would
[1:10:38] Speaker 1: help people if the battery goes dead, like you can
[1:10:41] Speaker 1: still find your phone eighty eight rich one oh one
[1:10:43] Speaker 1: eighty eight seven four to two four one zero one.
[1:10:49] Speaker 1: Customer satisfaction, Yes, the stuff you buy?
[1:10:53] Speaker 2: What do you like? What do you don't like?
[1:10:56] Speaker 1: This is a new study from ACSI their Household Appliance
[1:11:00] Speaker 1: and Electronics Study. I thought this was interesting, so as
[1:11:04] Speaker 1: consumers care less about flashy features and more about reliable
[1:11:08] Speaker 1: service when it comes to electronics and appliances, I would agree.
[1:11:12] Speaker 1: I bought just bought some washer and dryer, and you know,
[1:11:16] Speaker 1: my last one's lasted about ten years, maybe eleven, and
[1:11:21] Speaker 1: I'm hoping the same. And really I didn't look for like,
[1:11:24] Speaker 1: you know, AI and all this stuff in it, even
[1:11:25] Speaker 1: though I think it has it or Wi Fi.
[1:11:27] Speaker 2: But here's what the results are.
[1:11:30] Speaker 1: Overall satisfaction is study TV's at eighty two, PCs at
[1:11:34] Speaker 1: eighty one, appliances at eighty one, vacuums are at seventy nine.
[1:11:38] Speaker 1: The study finds customer service and reliability now matter as
[1:11:42] Speaker 1: much as innovation. I would one hundred percent agree with
[1:11:45] Speaker 1: that I want there to be customer service and I
[1:11:47] Speaker 1: want the thing to be reliable. I don't care if
[1:11:49] Speaker 1: it's got every feature known to mankind. If it doesn't
[1:11:52] Speaker 1: work and you can't get help when it doesn't work,
[1:11:54] Speaker 1: then what's the point.
[1:11:56] Speaker 2: So here are the brands.
[1:11:57] Speaker 1: We've got TVs, PCs, appliances, and vacummes, You're ready televisions.
[1:12:02] Speaker 1: Samsung still leads at an eighty three score. I'm guessing
[1:12:05] Speaker 1: these are out of one hundred, followed by high Sense
[1:12:08] Speaker 1: and Visio at eighty two. TCL jumps up the most.
[1:12:11] Speaker 1: They're up three percent. I've got a high Sense and
[1:12:14] Speaker 1: I absolutely love it. And I know Samsung's are good.
[1:12:18] Speaker 1: I mean all these TVs are great, TCL is great, Samsung,
[1:12:21] Speaker 1: I mean these are all solid, solid brands. PCs, Apple
[1:12:26] Speaker 1: slipped a little bit, HP took the top spot at
[1:12:29] Speaker 1: eighty three. Dell actually gained on the strength of its aipcs.
[1:12:34] Speaker 1: Desktops rate the highest to eighty four, tablets rate the
[1:12:37] Speaker 1: lowest at seventy seven. That's interesting. I'm guessing the tablets
[1:12:41] Speaker 1: rate the lowest because of all the Android tablets out
[1:12:45] Speaker 1: there that are very disappointing, and I think the because
[1:12:47] Speaker 1: the iPad. There's no way if it was just iPad
[1:12:49] Speaker 1: that would be that disappointing. All right, appliances, here's the
[1:12:52] Speaker 1: big one. Samsung and Whirlpool tie for first at eighty two. LG, Bosh,
[1:12:59] Speaker 1: electro Lux, and Hire are close behind. Bosh makes some
[1:13:02] Speaker 1: of the biggest gains. I know people love the Bosh brand.
[1:13:05] Speaker 1: I went with LG for mine because that's what I
[1:13:07] Speaker 1: had before and they worked, and so I just got
[1:13:09] Speaker 1: them again. I literally just searched for my model number
[1:13:12] Speaker 1: and got the new version like ten years later. And
[1:13:15] Speaker 1: we don't like them that much. So it's not that
[1:13:17] Speaker 1: I don't like them, they just they're like too modern now.
[1:13:20] Speaker 1: Like I guess we're so used to the old school machine.
[1:13:22] Speaker 1: Now we're like, this one's too modern, which is kind
[1:13:24] Speaker 1: of funny coming from me. But it's mostly my wife
[1:13:26] Speaker 1: that is complaining about it. She does most of the
[1:13:29] Speaker 1: laundryes she does more laundry than I do. Let's put
[1:13:32] Speaker 1: it that way. Vacuums Samsung number one at eighty two,
[1:13:38] Speaker 1: Shark number two at eighty one, Bissel and Dyson at
[1:13:41] Speaker 1: eighty and then Rumba at seventy eight. I will tell
[1:13:45] Speaker 1: you we bought a vacuum. I would never ever get
[1:13:48] Speaker 1: this vacuum. What a waste of money. None of those brands.
[1:13:52] Speaker 1: It was another brand. I'm not even gonna mention the
[1:13:53] Speaker 1: name because I don't want to slam them, but they were.
[1:13:56] Speaker 1: It's the biggest joke of a vacuum I've ever used
[1:13:59] Speaker 1: in my life.
[1:14:00] Speaker 2: I'm not kidding. It's just so bad.
[1:14:02] Speaker 1: And it came highly recommended from one of those review sites.
[1:14:06] Speaker 1: I won't mention which one either, but the thing is,
[1:14:09] Speaker 1: consumers want durable products, better repair service, and responsive support,
[1:14:14] Speaker 1: not just bells and whistles.
[1:14:16] Speaker 2: Let's go to Jerry in Mission va Ho. You're on
[1:14:20] Speaker 2: with Rich Hi.
[1:14:22] Speaker 6: Rich Hi.
[1:14:24] Speaker 12: I have an old tablet that died. It was an
[1:14:29] Speaker 12: A A seven and the battery is dead and there's
[1:14:34] Speaker 12: no bringing it back. So I ended up buying the
[1:14:37] Speaker 12: Galaxy A nine plus. And I know that they're the
[1:14:41] Speaker 12: bottom of the line of products, but that's okay. I
[1:14:44] Speaker 12: still love the Galaxy.
[1:14:46] Speaker 2: Okay, Well about the bottom of the line, this is
[1:14:48] Speaker 2: not it. This is fine. I mean it's you know,
[1:14:50] Speaker 2: it's a basic tablet, but it's fine.
[1:14:52] Speaker 12: They work great. Yeah, I love I'm a true fan. Okay,
[1:14:56] Speaker 12: So what happened is, since my old A seven and
[1:15:00] Speaker 12: is completely dead, how do I transfer my old WhatsApp
[1:15:05] Speaker 12: to the Galaxy A nine. I haven't been successful because
[1:15:10] Speaker 12: I'm using an old phone number that I no longer use.
[1:15:13] Speaker 12: It's invalid. I can't get it to work. They want
[1:15:16] Speaker 12: me to use a QR code to transfer it.
[1:15:20] Speaker 2: Yeah, you're not going to be able to.
[1:15:22] Speaker 11: You're not.
[1:15:22] Speaker 1: You're not gonna be able to because you know what, WhatsApp,
[1:15:25] Speaker 1: everything's encrypted, and so unless you had a backup of
[1:15:29] Speaker 1: this on a separate cloud like Google Drive or something
[1:15:33] Speaker 1: like that, you're not going to be able to decrypt
[1:15:36] Speaker 1: these messages without your previous device because as far as
[1:15:41] Speaker 1: I know, because WhatsApp is very very strict with security,
[1:15:44] Speaker 1: and that's what people love about it is that it's
[1:15:47] Speaker 1: not easily broken into. It's not people can't read your messages.
[1:15:52] Speaker 1: WhatsApp can't read your messages. So it's called end to
[1:15:55] Speaker 1: end encrypted, which means there is a lot of security.
[1:15:58] Speaker 1: And it's not like a tipic cool messaging app where
[1:16:01] Speaker 1: everything is stored on their servers and they just download
[1:16:05] Speaker 1: that back to your device. A lot of this is
[1:16:07] Speaker 1: kept in a separate place that is super secure, and
[1:16:11] Speaker 1: only you have the key to that, and by not
[1:16:14] Speaker 1: having that other device, you don't have the key anymore,
[1:16:17] Speaker 1: and so therefore you can't really get access to these.
[1:16:19] Speaker 1: Now I could be wrong about all that, but I
[1:16:22] Speaker 1: don't think I am, and so I don't. I don't
[1:16:25] Speaker 1: know if there's another way to get these messages. Do
[1:16:27] Speaker 1: you need those messages from before you do?
[1:16:30] Speaker 12: Well? I don't need the mess Well, the pictures are
[1:16:32] Speaker 12: on there there. What I really needed for is to
[1:16:34] Speaker 12: communicate with people while I'm in Europe to here in
[1:16:37] Speaker 12: the US. So should I open up a new WhatsApp account?
[1:16:40] Speaker 2: Yeah? I would?
[1:16:41] Speaker 1: I mean the thing is what so you can't log
[1:16:44] Speaker 1: in at all because it wants to verify you on.
[1:16:45] Speaker 2: An old device?
[1:16:47] Speaker 12: Correct, And they did, and you.
[1:16:48] Speaker 1: Don't have access And there's no small text that says verify.
[1:16:52] Speaker 2: Another way there is.
[1:16:55] Speaker 12: And it looks like I tried it whatever they wanted,
[1:16:57] Speaker 12: I couldn't. I couldn't do it. I'm going to keep trying.
[1:17:00] Speaker 12: I thought maybe that was an easier way.
[1:17:01] Speaker 2: Now, have you tried logging in on your phone?
[1:17:06] Speaker 12: It's not on.
[1:17:07] Speaker 11: On my phone.
[1:17:07] Speaker 12: This is all strictly on my tablet.
[1:17:09] Speaker 1: Well, right, But usually the way the tablet, it's try, okay,
[1:17:14] Speaker 1: try logging in on your phone using your information and
[1:17:17] Speaker 1: see if that helps.
[1:17:18] Speaker 2: Because it's a different phone number. Well oh, you're saying
[1:17:21] Speaker 2: it's a different number. Is completely different.
[1:17:23] Speaker 1: Yeah, well, look at the end of the day, if
[1:17:26] Speaker 1: you're if you're okay with losing the previous chats, then
[1:17:30] Speaker 1: I would just go onto your phone. Here's what I
[1:17:32] Speaker 1: would do. I would go onto your phone or your
[1:17:34] Speaker 1: tablet and sign up fresh with that phone number that
[1:17:36] Speaker 1: you have access to. And then once you do that,
[1:17:40] Speaker 1: I would go into the settings.
[1:17:42] Speaker 2: And you can't.
[1:17:43] Speaker 1: Let's see it says chats. Okay, Now the thing is
[1:17:47] Speaker 1: about the chats. Uh, there's settings, and I'm looking at
[1:17:51] Speaker 1: the iPhone and it says, let's see here, move chats
[1:17:54] Speaker 1: to Android, transfer chats to iPhone, chat backup.
[1:17:57] Speaker 2: So there's a chat backup and that's.
[1:18:00] Speaker 1: What you want to look at because that's where it
[1:18:02] Speaker 1: stores all of your chats in the cloud. And if
[1:18:05] Speaker 1: you're on iPhone, it uses iCloud. I think on Android
[1:18:08] Speaker 1: it uses I think it uses Google Drive. I got
[1:18:11] Speaker 1: to look at that. But yeah, WhatsApp is very is
[1:18:14] Speaker 1: very specific when it comes to security and how many
[1:18:18] Speaker 1: devices you can have logged in and how easy it
[1:18:20] Speaker 1: is to log in and where your messages are. I'm
[1:18:23] Speaker 1: just looking at you know, the just linking devices is
[1:18:27] Speaker 1: tricky on there because it all it's it's very very secure,
[1:18:31] Speaker 1: and that's the main thing is. This is why I
[1:18:33] Speaker 1: didn't use WhatsApp for a long time, because it was
[1:18:35] Speaker 1: tough to use it on multiple devices. That's gotten a
[1:18:37] Speaker 1: lot better now you can link up to four different
[1:18:40] Speaker 1: devices in addition to your primary phone. But it's very
[1:18:44] Speaker 1: very secure, and that's why you're having some trouble there.
[1:18:47] Speaker 1: But I would just go in and set up with
[1:18:49] Speaker 1: a fresh phone number. You've got that number anyway, That's
[1:18:51] Speaker 1: what people know now probably, so that's.
[1:18:54] Speaker 3: What I would do.
[1:18:56] Speaker 12: Number. That's not my new cell phone. I have a
[1:18:59] Speaker 12: Shell phone and that's not that number.
[1:19:02] Speaker 1: Wait, so you have hold on which which phone number
[1:19:05] Speaker 1: you're going to use to log in for the new account.
[1:19:07] Speaker 12: Well, you told me I need to start from scratch,
[1:19:09] Speaker 12: so I have to use my new cell phone.
[1:19:10] Speaker 1: Number and is the old But you don't have access
[1:19:13] Speaker 1: to the old number, right, No, that's yeah, So that's
[1:19:17] Speaker 1: going to be a problem anyway, because you're not You're
[1:19:18] Speaker 1: you're going to find it tough to log in no
[1:19:20] Speaker 1: matter what. So I would just start up fresh with
[1:19:23] Speaker 1: your new number and make sure you save all the information.
[1:19:25] Speaker 1: And once you set it up fresh, set up the
[1:19:28] Speaker 1: backup and make sure that you've got things backed up
[1:19:30] Speaker 1: to where you want them to be.
[1:19:32] Speaker 2: And then that way you won't lose your chats in
[1:19:33] Speaker 2: the future.
[1:19:35] Speaker 12: Thank you so much. I don't want to lose touch
[1:19:37] Speaker 12: with my all my buddies here in the US. So
[1:19:39] Speaker 12: thank you, all right.
[1:19:40] Speaker 2: Have a great trip, thank you, thank you so much.
[1:19:43] Speaker 2: Rich all right, Jerry really appreciate it. Thank you, thank
[1:19:46] Speaker 2: you all right.
[1:19:48] Speaker 1: Yeah, WhatsApp is uh. This is why back in the
[1:19:51] Speaker 1: day I really used UH. I switched. I. I started
[1:19:55] Speaker 1: to use for my group chats Telegram because it was
[1:19:58] Speaker 1: easier to log in on a whole bunch of devices,
[1:20:01] Speaker 1: and I knew because I test a ton of phones
[1:20:04] Speaker 1: that I needed that functionality. Now, I think WhatsApp is
[1:20:07] Speaker 1: way more secure than pretty much every The only more
[1:20:11] Speaker 1: secure messaging app is Signal, and the difference is Signal
[1:20:15] Speaker 1: does not collect any information or much less information about you,
[1:20:20] Speaker 1: whereas if you think about it, WhatsApp is owned by Meta,
[1:20:24] Speaker 1: which is Facebook Their whole game is data. So while
[1:20:27] Speaker 1: they keep your messages very private, they are collecting some
[1:20:30] Speaker 1: other metadata around you know, maybe your device or you
[1:20:34] Speaker 1: know where you're logging in from that kind of stuff.
[1:20:36] Speaker 1: Like there's just a little bit more data collection, not
[1:20:38] Speaker 1: about your messages. No one's looking at your messages. And
[1:20:41] Speaker 1: that's what people love about WhatsApp. It is end to
[1:20:43] Speaker 1: end encrypted, which means it is highly secure. No matter
[1:20:47] Speaker 1: who you're messaging with, nobody can see that message except
[1:20:50] Speaker 1: for you and the receiving party. No one can intercept it.
[1:20:54] Speaker 1: No one can read it, not even meta, not your phone,
[1:20:57] Speaker 1: not the other person's phone. In outside app, they can't
[1:21:00] Speaker 1: tap into that. So that's why people like WhatsApp. All right,
[1:21:04] Speaker 1: eighty eight rich one O one eighty eight seven four
[1:21:06] Speaker 1: to two four one zero one. But once again, if
[1:21:09] Speaker 1: you're using WhatsApp, go into your settings and make sure
[1:21:12] Speaker 1: you have your chat backup set up the way you
[1:21:14] Speaker 1: want it, Otherwise you're gonna lose those messages when you
[1:21:17] Speaker 1: switch to you in your device. All right, coming up,
[1:21:19] Speaker 1: we'll tell you how Spotify is adding a better audio
[1:21:22] Speaker 1: and how Gmail is helping you track your packages.
[1:21:28] Speaker 2: Let's go to Steve in Lake Forrest. You're on with Rich?
[1:21:32] Speaker 13: Hey, Rich, how you doing?
[1:21:33] Speaker 2: I'm doing? Well, what's up?
[1:21:35] Speaker 13: So I shoot video for a vertive prey rescue group
[1:21:42] Speaker 13: and so we rehabilitate hawks and falcons and ls birds
[1:21:48] Speaker 13: like that, and then we release them back into the wild.
[1:21:50] Speaker 13: So I'm using IPO sixteen pro with it's got a
[1:21:56] Speaker 13: five XU zoom on it. But as the bird flies away, yeah,
[1:22:03] Speaker 13: not able to track it for very long. So I
[1:22:07] Speaker 13: was just wondering, is there any thing on the Internet,
[1:22:11] Speaker 13: as far as artificial intelligence goes, that could follow the
[1:22:16] Speaker 13: bird pass the limitations of the camera.
[1:22:20] Speaker 2: Hmm, that's a good question.
[1:22:22] Speaker 1: I mean, the problem with that is that birds are
[1:22:25] Speaker 1: flying pretty fast and pretty far, very quickly, and so
[1:22:30] Speaker 1: unless you had some sort of tracker on that bird
[1:22:32] Speaker 1: that would relay to the camera like to track it,
[1:22:35] Speaker 1: that's going to be really tough. How far How long
[1:22:39] Speaker 1: are you shooting these birds for like with this phone, Well, from.
[1:22:43] Speaker 13: The moment they get released to the moment they're out
[1:22:47] Speaker 13: of sight. It varies, but it could be anywhere from
[1:22:52] Speaker 13: seven eight seconds to maybe twenty thirty seconds. If the
[1:22:56] Speaker 13: bird decides to fly up and write thermals or something
[1:23:01] Speaker 13: like that. You can you can track a little bit longer.
[1:23:05] Speaker 1: Well, I mean look the new the latest phones. I
[1:23:07] Speaker 1: mean you've got the zoom on, you know. And the
[1:23:10] Speaker 1: problem is, once you get really to the to far zoom,
[1:23:13] Speaker 1: it's really tough to keep that bird in the frame.
[1:23:16] Speaker 1: So it's not like it's not gonna be easy to
[1:23:19] Speaker 1: do that. So no matter what you're at, you said
[1:23:22] Speaker 1: you're on the iPhone fifteen, you said sixteen, okay, sixteen pro,
[1:23:27] Speaker 1: So you're talking your maximum zoom on that is five times, right,
[1:23:32] Speaker 1: I mean optical. If you want to go digital, you
[1:23:35] Speaker 1: can go up to twenty five times on that.
[1:23:38] Speaker 13: You know. I just got to sixteen growth, so I
[1:23:40] Speaker 13: haven't tried to do that yet.
[1:23:41] Speaker 1: Actually, you know what, let me look because the I'm
[1:23:43] Speaker 1: gonna look on this one, okay, oh okay, yeah, you're not. No,
[1:23:47] Speaker 1: you're not gonna be able to go up as far
[1:23:49] Speaker 1: with the with the video camera. Yeah, because the photo
[1:23:53] Speaker 1: you can go up to a higher zoom range than
[1:23:56] Speaker 1: the video and I'm looking at the pixel here, let's
[1:23:59] Speaker 1: see where they go up. On video you can go
[1:24:01] Speaker 1: up to twenty x zoom. So it really and then
[1:24:05] Speaker 1: I don't have the Samsung with me today. But the Samsung,
[1:24:08] Speaker 1: you know, has one hundred times zoom on the on
[1:24:10] Speaker 1: the camera. I mean, look, I think that the bottom line,
[1:24:14] Speaker 1: if you're gonna go, if you're gonna stick with the iPhone,
[1:24:16] Speaker 1: I think that the new iPhone is gonna give you
[1:24:19] Speaker 1: more zoom because it's got a longer range lens. I guess,
[1:24:23] Speaker 1: so you're gonna probably get a higher zoom rate on
[1:24:26] Speaker 1: the video there. The problem is keeping the bird in
[1:24:28] Speaker 1: the picture, I think is going to be the biggest challenge,
[1:24:30] Speaker 1: especially at the distance that you're doing that. When it
[1:24:34] Speaker 1: comes to AI, if you're talking about AI photos, then
[1:24:37] Speaker 1: the pixel would be the best because the pixel can
[1:24:40] Speaker 1: take a photo even at a hundred times and do
[1:24:44] Speaker 1: what's called AI it's called super red zoom, and it's
[1:24:48] Speaker 1: just incredible. It will take that picture and just polish
[1:24:51] Speaker 1: it with AI and you won't believe how good it looks.
[1:24:54] Speaker 1: You should see if anyone around you has the Pixel
[1:24:56] Speaker 1: ten pro and ask them to take a picture of
[1:24:58] Speaker 1: these birds from far away, and it's quite impressive what
[1:25:01] Speaker 1: it can do.
[1:25:02] Speaker 2: But that's not the video camera.
[1:25:05] Speaker 1: But the pixel does have a feature called video Boost,
[1:25:08] Speaker 1: which could work in this situation because video boost will
[1:25:12] Speaker 1: kind of stabilize your video and enhance the color, so
[1:25:16] Speaker 1: that could work. But overall, I think when it comes
[1:25:19] Speaker 1: to video on a smartphone, the iPhones do have the
[1:25:22] Speaker 1: best video. So I think for like everyday use and ease,
[1:25:25] Speaker 1: I think the iPhone's still going to be your best bet.
[1:25:28] Speaker 1: You could probably get slightly better zoom out of the
[1:25:31] Speaker 1: new iPhone seventeen than you can out of the sixteen.
[1:25:34] Speaker 1: So if you want to try for that when it
[1:25:36] Speaker 1: comes out, I don't have the exact numbers right now
[1:25:38] Speaker 1: because there's yeah, I gotta look that up, but that's
[1:25:44] Speaker 1: probably your best bet. But I don't think there's any
[1:25:46] Speaker 1: AI happening there. There's not really any AI that's going
[1:25:49] Speaker 1: to enhance it. And then if you go with like
[1:25:51] Speaker 1: a standard camera, you know, like a camera on a tripod,
[1:25:54] Speaker 1: there are some cameras that you can get that might
[1:25:56] Speaker 1: be better, but it's just gonna be It depends what
[1:25:59] Speaker 1: you're trying to do. But you know, you can get
[1:26:00] Speaker 1: a long lens, you can get zoom, you can you know,
[1:26:02] Speaker 1: do all that stuff, but that's going to get you
[1:26:04] Speaker 1: into the thousands of dollars when you talk about that equipment.
[1:26:07] Speaker 1: So Steve I wish there was an easy answer for you.
[1:26:10] Speaker 1: But I love what you're doing for sure. I think
[1:26:12] Speaker 1: it sounds awesome and I'd love to I'd love to
[1:26:15] Speaker 1: come out there at the Pixel ten. Email me maybe
[1:26:17] Speaker 1: I can come out and take some pictures. That'd be
[1:26:18] Speaker 1: kind of fun to take some pictures. I'm always testing cameras,
[1:26:22] Speaker 1: you know, so maybe I should come out there and
[1:26:24] Speaker 1: test some of these cameras that I've got and we
[1:26:26] Speaker 1: can see what they look like. Let's let's do that.
[1:26:27] Speaker 1: Email me at rich on tech just hello at richontech
[1:26:31] Speaker 1: dot TV. Thanks for the call today. Appreciate it. Gmail
[1:26:36] Speaker 1: is adding a new feature to help you track your packages.
[1:26:40] Speaker 1: So this is a new purchase tracking view. It takes
[1:26:42] Speaker 1: all your receipts and delivery updates and puts them into
[1:26:45] Speaker 1: one simple list. It'll still show those packages that are
[1:26:48] Speaker 1: arriving with within twenty four hours at the top of
[1:26:50] Speaker 1: your inbox. I personally don't really care for that feature,
[1:26:53] Speaker 1: but this is in the left hand menu. It's not
[1:26:55] Speaker 1: there just yet perhaps, but if you go to your
[1:26:58] Speaker 1: Gmail left hand menu, you'll see it'll say purchases and
[1:27:02] Speaker 1: you can see all your purchases in one place.
[1:27:04] Speaker 2: Coming up we're going to talk travel insurance and how
[1:27:07] Speaker 2: AI is changing that.
[1:27:13] Speaker 1: If you have Spotify, they are adding lossless audio. Yeah,
[1:27:16] Speaker 1: this is something that's been on the works for a
[1:27:18] Speaker 1: long time, so it's rolling out now. You will know
[1:27:21] Speaker 1: when you have it if you're a premium subscriber of Spotify.
[1:27:25] Speaker 1: Lossless basically means it higher audio quality, So it's gonna
[1:27:29] Speaker 1: stream up to twenty four bit forty four flack. I
[1:27:33] Speaker 1: don't even know how you say this, kill a Hurtz
[1:27:36] Speaker 1: higher quality than the standard, not the highest on the market.
[1:27:39] Speaker 1: But here's the deal. Bluetooth can't handle lossless audio in
[1:27:43] Speaker 1: for the most part, so you're gonna have to have
[1:27:45] Speaker 1: wired headphones or use speakers. So it's like all these
[1:27:48] Speaker 1: people have been waiting for this, but you're not even
[1:27:50] Speaker 1: be able to hear the difference on your on your
[1:27:51] Speaker 1: Bluetooth earbuts, Apple Music, Amazon Title, they all have better
[1:27:57] Speaker 1: audio quality than Spotify up to twenty four bit at
[1:28:00] Speaker 1: kill Hurtz Deezer.
[1:28:03] Speaker 2: Deezer is a little bit lower.
[1:28:05] Speaker 1: Spotify does not support spatial audio, Apple does.
[1:28:08] Speaker 2: Amazon does.
[1:28:10] Speaker 1: Premium users will see a lossless indicator in now playing
[1:28:13] Speaker 1: when you have it enabled. It's rolling out gradually. You'll
[1:28:15] Speaker 1: get a notification once it's available in your app. If
[1:28:18] Speaker 1: you want to turn it on, you can go to
[1:28:20] Speaker 1: your profile icon settings in Privacy media quality and you
[1:28:25] Speaker 1: can decide where you want.
[1:28:26] Speaker 2: To enable lossless audio.
[1:28:27] Speaker 1: I'll enable it even though I can't listen to it
[1:28:29] Speaker 1: for the most part, but hey, I want the highest quality,
[1:28:32] Speaker 1: all right?
[1:28:33] Speaker 2: Joining me now?
[1:28:33] Speaker 1: I thought this was an interesting conversation because I've I've
[1:28:37] Speaker 1: purchased travel insurance in the past. It's a pretty straightforward process.
[1:28:41] Speaker 1: Hopefully you never have to use it, but it's good
[1:28:43] Speaker 1: to have. Daniel Green is with FAY Travel Insurance, the
[1:28:47] Speaker 1: website with Fay dot com, and they're sort of bringing
[1:28:51] Speaker 1: travel insurance into the modern world. Daniel, did I get
[1:28:54] Speaker 1: that right?
[1:28:55] Speaker 3: Absolutely? Rich, Thanks very much for having me.
[1:28:57] Speaker 1: So, you know, travel insurance and some people think maybe
[1:29:01] Speaker 1: their credit card has it, maybe they don't need it.
[1:29:04] Speaker 2: What is you know, when do you need travel insurance?
[1:29:07] Speaker 2: Number one?
[1:29:09] Speaker 14: So, I think there are three times when people need
[1:29:12] Speaker 14: travel insurance. The most and the first, which we think
[1:29:16] Speaker 14: about all the time, is what happens if you get
[1:29:19] Speaker 14: sick on a trip. But I think one of the
[1:29:21] Speaker 14: consequences that a lot of people don't think about is
[1:29:24] Speaker 14: what if you get sick and.
[1:29:25] Speaker 3: Then you need to get home.
[1:29:26] Speaker 14: Sometimes traveling back with a broken leg means that that
[1:29:30] Speaker 14: economy class flight or that Spirit Airlines ticket might not
[1:29:33] Speaker 14: be enough to get you back. And sometimes people find
[1:29:36] Speaker 14: themselves in scenarios where they actually need a flying air
[1:29:39] Speaker 14: ambulance to get you home, and those things can run
[1:29:41] Speaker 14: into the hundreds of thousands of dollars really quickly.
[1:29:44] Speaker 3: So that's the first category. The second category is you
[1:29:47] Speaker 3: land at an airport.
[1:29:48] Speaker 14: And your bags. Don't It happens to you all the time.
[1:29:52] Speaker 14: I think one of the biggest things people don't think
[1:29:55] Speaker 14: about is the best thing that you can get at
[1:29:57] Speaker 14: that point in time is not necessarily my back for
[1:30:00] Speaker 14: all of your stuff that can happen in time. It's
[1:30:03] Speaker 14: just a few hundred dollars so that you can run
[1:30:05] Speaker 14: to even a walmart, get a toothbrush, change of clothes,
[1:30:09] Speaker 14: something to look after you until everything else arrives.
[1:30:12] Speaker 3: And the third category is all the little things.
[1:30:17] Speaker 14: All the big things that prevent you from going on
[1:30:19] Speaker 14: your trip in the first place. In this day and
[1:30:22] Speaker 14: age and with inflation, some of these vacations are costing
[1:30:26] Speaker 14: a small fortune. People are saving up, people are putting
[1:30:29] Speaker 14: real money into them, and if something goes wrong at
[1:30:32] Speaker 14: the last minute before you're supposed to travel, most providers
[1:30:36] Speaker 14: won't give you money back. Airlines are saying no refunds
[1:30:39] Speaker 14: if you're the one choosing not to travel. Funny how
[1:30:41] Speaker 14: it works the other way around and having insurance step
[1:30:44] Speaker 14: in and make you whole really can protect that investment
[1:30:47] Speaker 14: you've made in that trip of that vacation.
[1:30:50] Speaker 1: So I've purchased travel insurance once before I did an
[1:30:53] Speaker 1: international trip to Japan and they said you should probably
[1:30:57] Speaker 1: get travel insurance. It was a pretty straightforward process and
[1:31:00] Speaker 1: it was a lot less expensive than I thought it
[1:31:02] Speaker 1: was or would be. So how are you different? Like
[1:31:05] Speaker 1: what is Faye doing? That's differently? I know you guys
[1:31:07] Speaker 1: have an app. What's different than sort of the traditional
[1:31:10] Speaker 1: go online and find travel insurance.
[1:31:13] Speaker 3: So firstly, you can buy it through our app. You
[1:31:16] Speaker 3: can also buy it through our website.
[1:31:18] Speaker 14: I think a lot of people make the mistake of
[1:31:20] Speaker 14: either assuming that they have travel insurance via their credit
[1:31:23] Speaker 14: card but not actually looking at what that means, or
[1:31:26] Speaker 14: checking a box at the end of the purchase process
[1:31:29] Speaker 14: on airline website. Sometimes that only covers the airline ticket
[1:31:33] Speaker 14: and not all the other things that can happen. But
[1:31:36] Speaker 14: Fay tries to do two things to make your life
[1:31:38] Speaker 14: significantly better. The first is we provide value whether you
[1:31:43] Speaker 14: do or don't have a claim. As soon as you've
[1:31:45] Speaker 14: purchased insurance with us, we give you the option to
[1:31:48] Speaker 14: set up a virtual credit card in Apple Pay or
[1:31:51] Speaker 14: Google Pay so that we're able to either send you
[1:31:54] Speaker 14: money on your trip or even pay for things on
[1:31:56] Speaker 14: your behalf. You have a claim, we use the opportune
[1:31:59] Speaker 14: to start tracking your flights and putting information in about
[1:32:02] Speaker 14: your travel.
[1:32:03] Speaker 3: And one of the best.
[1:32:03] Speaker 14: Things we can do there is we can reach out
[1:32:06] Speaker 14: and tell you have a claim before you.
[1:32:07] Speaker 3: Know about it.
[1:32:08] Speaker 14: Oh wow, we detect that your flight is significantly delayed
[1:32:11] Speaker 14: or canceled.
[1:32:12] Speaker 3: Obviously terms and conditions apply.
[1:32:14] Speaker 14: We can be proactive in trying to get you back
[1:32:17] Speaker 14: on track and getting money out to you.
[1:32:20] Speaker 3: Pretty quickly, and I think that makes a huge.
[1:32:22] Speaker 14: Difference than having a PDF somewhere in your inbox, trying
[1:32:27] Speaker 14: to remember who you brought insurance from when you get
[1:32:29] Speaker 14: home and looking for all the receipts. We're all traveling
[1:32:33] Speaker 14: with our phones, we're using it every day of our travel.
[1:32:37] Speaker 3: Being able to already have your.
[1:32:39] Speaker 14: Phone in hand and take care of the insurance in
[1:32:42] Speaker 14: the moment where you need it makes.
[1:32:43] Speaker 3: A huge difference to your peace of mind and your time.
[1:32:47] Speaker 1: So you're really you're positioning almost as like a travel companion.
[1:32:50] Speaker 1: You don't want someone to just like you said, buy
[1:32:53] Speaker 1: this file it away and if you ever need it,
[1:32:55] Speaker 1: look again. You're saying like, hey, get this app on
[1:32:57] Speaker 1: your phone now, and it's your travel companion. Not only
[1:33:01] Speaker 1: are you going to get your insurance through here, but
[1:33:02] Speaker 1: you're also going to be able to track your flights.
[1:33:04] Speaker 1: You can get these reimbursements. Like you said, I love
[1:33:06] Speaker 1: the idea that you can add this card to your
[1:33:09] Speaker 1: Apple paste, that you can send that information or that
[1:33:12] Speaker 1: I guess reimbursement claim money instantly.
[1:33:15] Speaker 2: Is that done? Has that been done before?
[1:33:19] Speaker 3: So?
[1:33:19] Speaker 14: I do think some of these concepts have been around
[1:33:22] Speaker 14: for a while outside of the United States, but in
[1:33:26] Speaker 14: America we've gotten used to for far too long sax machines,
[1:33:30] Speaker 14: checks in the.
[1:33:31] Speaker 3: Mail, and really old school ways of doing business.
[1:33:35] Speaker 14: And I think we're one of the first to make
[1:33:37] Speaker 14: this technology that is a part of our everyday life
[1:33:41] Speaker 14: in almost every other aspect, So why can't it be
[1:33:44] Speaker 14: part of our insurance?
[1:33:45] Speaker 1: And what kind of stuff does travel insurance cover? I
[1:33:48] Speaker 1: mean you mentioned like you know, medical this and that,
[1:33:51] Speaker 1: like what you know? Do I need this for domestic
[1:33:54] Speaker 1: do I not?
[1:33:55] Speaker 3: So I think it's a good idea to have it
[1:33:57] Speaker 3: whenever you travel.
[1:33:58] Speaker 14: I think even when we talk about Medica all most
[1:34:01] Speaker 14: people have health insurance that the minute they get out
[1:34:04] Speaker 14: of state, there's all of a sudden copays, out of network, fees,
[1:34:09] Speaker 14: other things, and travel insurance can help bridge that gap.
[1:34:12] Speaker 14: But really there's three categories which we spoke about before.
[1:34:16] Speaker 3: There's your health, there's.
[1:34:18] Speaker 14: Your stuff, and there's the investment you made in the
[1:34:21] Speaker 14: trip in the first place. And I think one of
[1:34:24] Speaker 14: the additional benefits that a lot of people don't realize
[1:34:27] Speaker 14: can be found in travel insurance is many policies and
[1:34:30] Speaker 14: many states allow for the idea of trip in convenience
[1:34:33] Speaker 14: or traveling convenience payments, and those are situations where something
[1:34:38] Speaker 14: out of your control has gone wrong and you'll just
[1:34:41] Speaker 14: receive a little bit of money to make it better
[1:34:43] Speaker 14: without necessarily needing any additional receipts. So a lot of
[1:34:47] Speaker 14: insurance works that you need to pay for things and
[1:34:50] Speaker 14: then get the money claimed back. Or we can approve
[1:34:53] Speaker 14: certain categories of things that you can spend money on,
[1:34:55] Speaker 14: will pay for them with traveling convenience. If your flight
[1:34:59] Speaker 14: is delayed for a certain number of hours depending on
[1:35:01] Speaker 14: the state, you might just receive two hundred dollars sent
[1:35:03] Speaker 14: straight to your to that Fay credit card that you
[1:35:07] Speaker 14: can spend on anything you want at the airport, just
[1:35:10] Speaker 14: to take the thing out of how things have gone.
[1:35:12] Speaker 3: Wrong in your day.
[1:35:13] Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, the reason I brought you on the
[1:35:15] Speaker 1: show is because I like when things are done in
[1:35:17] Speaker 1: a modern way. And I'm looking at the app and
[1:35:19] Speaker 1: it just it seems like it's a it's much more
[1:35:22] Speaker 1: modern than the system that I use to purchase my insurance,
[1:35:25] Speaker 1: which this this is what I like. This is the
[1:35:28] Speaker 1: kind of stuff that I like, where it's all done
[1:35:30] Speaker 1: in the app. It looks like you can place your
[1:35:32] Speaker 1: claims through the app, you can chat through the app,
[1:35:34] Speaker 1: and I even noticed you you offer e sims as well.
[1:35:38] Speaker 3: So it's good for it's good for us, and it's
[1:35:40] Speaker 3: good for you as the customer.
[1:35:42] Speaker 14: So by by having connectivity, if something goes wrong, we'd
[1:35:46] Speaker 14: much rather be the ones to help you get on
[1:35:49] Speaker 14: your way and take care of you in the moment,
[1:35:51] Speaker 14: not find out, let's say, three weeks after you get home,
[1:35:55] Speaker 14: that you face the calamity.
[1:35:57] Speaker 3: It's much easier to say, how can we help?
[1:35:58] Speaker 6: Then?
[1:35:59] Speaker 14: Oh no, that's terrible. And the SIMS is part of that.
[1:36:03] Speaker 14: There are so many little things you need along the
[1:36:05] Speaker 14: way just to be connected to the internet. We take
[1:36:07] Speaker 14: it for granted, but not everyone's phone providers offer it,
[1:36:11] Speaker 14: and some of them that do, they're charging you outrageous
[1:36:14] Speaker 14: amounts of money per day and it just doesn't make sense.
[1:36:17] Speaker 1: Yeah, and they are pretty easy nowadays to set up.
[1:36:19] Speaker 1: When they work, they're amazing. I mean, in pretty much nowadays,
[1:36:22] Speaker 1: it's like a no brainer. They work really well most
[1:36:24] Speaker 1: of the time.
[1:36:25] Speaker 2: All right.
[1:36:25] Speaker 1: The website is with Faye dot com with Faye dot com.
[1:36:30] Speaker 1: Daniel Green, thanks so much for joining.
[1:36:32] Speaker 3: Me today, Rich Thank you very much for having me.
[1:36:34] Speaker 2: Really appreciate it. Bookmark that download the app.
[1:36:38] Speaker 1: I'm gonna use it for my next journey, that's for sure,
[1:36:40] Speaker 1: because I did feel more secure when I had my
[1:36:44] Speaker 1: travel insurance, especially on an international trip. I mean, you know,
[1:36:47] Speaker 1: you just you think about, like, hold on, what happens
[1:36:49] Speaker 1: if I get sick? Here what happens if I need
[1:36:51] Speaker 1: to get home fast. I mean, this is the kind
[1:36:53] Speaker 1: of stuff where this stuff will kick in and it
[1:36:55] Speaker 1: really help you out. So I'll put a link on
[1:36:57] Speaker 1: the website. Rich On Tech TV. All right, coming up?
[1:37:02] Speaker 1: Are we Is it already the end of the show?
[1:37:04] Speaker 1: Oh my gosh. All right, I'm gonna tell you how
[1:37:06] Speaker 1: my favorite frame is actually the first to earn a
[1:37:10] Speaker 1: calm TECHT certification.
[1:37:12] Speaker 2: I'll tell you about Pixel why it's.
[1:37:13] Speaker 1: The it's got a new fastest growing premium smartphone. And
[1:37:18] Speaker 1: we'll get to the feedbag right here on rich On Tech.
[1:37:24] Speaker 1: A couple stories to get to before the feedbag, which
[1:37:27] Speaker 1: is overflowing this week. I don't know if I can
[1:37:29] Speaker 1: get to all of it, but we will try. Or
[1:37:32] Speaker 1: this is my favorite digital frame. I just put one
[1:37:35] Speaker 1: of these in my living room and it is I
[1:37:37] Speaker 1: love it. I just love it. It's a digital frame.
[1:37:40] Speaker 1: It looks beautiful and you send photos from your phone
[1:37:44] Speaker 1: to the frame. But if you link up friends and family,
[1:37:46] Speaker 1: they can also send photos to that frame. So it's
[1:37:49] Speaker 1: all Wi Fi and it's great. I'm not kidding. Just
[1:37:53] Speaker 1: keep an eye on these frames. This is the absolute
[1:37:55] Speaker 1: best gift you can gift. You can give anyone, especially
[1:37:58] Speaker 1: a loved one. So if you have friends or family
[1:38:01] Speaker 1: across the miles, you can send a photo of your
[1:38:03] Speaker 1: kids from your phone to their frame.
[1:38:05] Speaker 2: It'll show up. It's pretty amazing. Anyway, I tell you this.
[1:38:08] Speaker 1: Because they now have it's calm Tech certified, which means
[1:38:12] Speaker 1: the frames you know, enhance your daily life without overwhelming it.
[1:38:16] Speaker 1: Certification came after an eighty one point evaluation by the
[1:38:19] Speaker 1: Calm Tech Institute. And it's privacy first. There's no ads,
[1:38:23] Speaker 1: there's no cameras, there's no distracting alerts, and it's got
[1:38:27] Speaker 1: auto light sensors. It turns off at night. And I
[1:38:31] Speaker 1: just absolutely love the Aura frame. It's positioned as technology
[1:38:35] Speaker 1: that feels ambient and supportive, not intrusive, and yes, I
[1:38:38] Speaker 1: agree with that.
[1:38:39] Speaker 2: So anyway, check them out. I love that thing. Pixel. Google.
[1:38:44] Speaker 1: Pixel is now the fastest growing premium smartphone brand in
[1:38:47] Speaker 1: the world. Counterpoint Research premium smartphone market grew eight percent
[1:38:53] Speaker 1: in the first half of twenty twenty five. Apple still
[1:38:55] Speaker 1: leads with a sixty two percent share. Samsung is second
[1:38:57] Speaker 1: at twenty percent. Huawei and show He also saw big growth,
[1:39:01] Speaker 1: but Google Pixel posted one and five percent year over
[1:39:05] Speaker 1: year growth. Sales doubled in the H one twenty five.
[1:39:10] Speaker 1: I guess that's H one.
[1:39:12] Speaker 3: Well what that means, you'll.
[1:39:13] Speaker 2: Probably figure it out later. I'll be like, oh, it'll
[1:39:15] Speaker 2: come to me.
[1:39:16] Speaker 6: Uh.
[1:39:16] Speaker 1: Anyway, Pixel nine was very positive, and so is the
[1:39:20] Speaker 1: Pixel ten. I think that Pixel is just doing a
[1:39:24] Speaker 1: really great job with their phones. I recommend them a lot,
[1:39:27] Speaker 1: but they've got some good competition this year from Apple.
[1:39:30] Speaker 1: All right, let's open up the feedback. These are the emails,
[1:39:33] Speaker 1: the comments, the questions that I get from you. Submit
[1:39:36] Speaker 1: yours at the website. Rich on tech dot TV. Diana
[1:39:38] Speaker 1: writes in a thanks thanks for telling me about AT
[1:39:41] Speaker 1: and T Senior discount. It saved me fifty dollars a month.
[1:39:44] Speaker 1: Sean writes in PC Mover from lap Link is an
[1:39:48] Speaker 1: app that can move everything from one PC to another,
[1:39:50] Speaker 1: including installed applications, but he says he's never personally used it,
[1:39:54] Speaker 1: but it's been around for years and Microsoft even recommends it,
[1:39:57] Speaker 1: so something to try out. I think that's in response
[1:39:59] Speaker 1: to the question we had about the person trying to
[1:40:01] Speaker 1: use their old programs on a new computer. Danny and
[1:40:04] Speaker 1: Charlotte writes in the person trying to use Office twenty
[1:40:07] Speaker 1: sixteen is probably running a thirty two bit version, while
[1:40:10] Speaker 1: newer PCs are sixty four bit, so that won't work,
[1:40:13] Speaker 1: although there is an outside chance it could run in
[1:40:15] Speaker 1: legacy mode. Think you can right click the shortcut on
[1:40:20] Speaker 1: your desktop and run it in that legacy mode. Garan
[1:40:23] Speaker 1: Sacramento gives another vote to LapLink to move programs and
[1:40:26] Speaker 1: settings to a new PC.
[1:40:27] Speaker 2: I've used it with limited success. Bonnie says. We're wondering
[1:40:31] Speaker 2: if a three D printer can help.
[1:40:33] Speaker 1: Us recreate cabinet drawer pulls since the manufacturers gone and
[1:40:37] Speaker 1: a machine shop can't fix them. Probably, I mean you
[1:40:41] Speaker 1: could three D print it. You'd have to take a
[1:40:42] Speaker 1: three D scan first, and then you'd have to three
[1:40:45] Speaker 1: D print it. So you'd have to find someone that
[1:40:47] Speaker 1: can do that. Find someone with a three D printer.
[1:40:49] Speaker 1: Maybe go to a local school, like a you know,
[1:40:52] Speaker 1: one of those community colleges or something with like some
[1:40:54] Speaker 1: sort of three D printing class, Or you can check
[1:40:57] Speaker 1: eBay for the original. I'm the blind caller who asked
[1:41:01] Speaker 1: about the metaglasses and straws. I'm a Denver native and
[1:41:04] Speaker 1: I know the city better than most. I used to
[1:41:06] Speaker 1: be a dispatcher at Quest and would love to someday
[1:41:08] Speaker 1: show you around. My mom was full blood of Italian,
[1:41:11] Speaker 1: so I know the best pizza, and there's a greasy
[1:41:13] Speaker 1: spoon in the suburbs with great pork chops. I also
[1:41:16] Speaker 1: want to say your newsletter is very informative and I
[1:41:18] Speaker 1: really enjoyed hearing your kids and your mom on the broadcast.
[1:41:20] Speaker 2: Well thank you, Russ. If I'm ever in Denver again, I'll
[1:41:23] Speaker 2: ring you up.
[1:41:24] Speaker 1: Donna writes in I'm trying to create a slideshow with
[1:41:26] Speaker 1: one hundred and fifty photos with Apple Music, but iMovie
[1:41:29] Speaker 1: has been really difficult.
[1:41:30] Speaker 2: I need it done fast.
[1:41:33] Speaker 1: I said you should try cap cut or Adobe Rush
[1:41:36] Speaker 1: because they're easier for this kind of project. Canva also
[1:41:40] Speaker 1: has a slideshow tool. You can try that. My tip
[1:41:43] Speaker 1: after editing for twenty five years or so, lay out
[1:41:45] Speaker 1: the music first, then drop the photos on top to
[1:41:49] Speaker 1: help you time it out and save time and frustration.
[1:41:53] Speaker 1: Clovis writes in last week of caller said their friend
[1:41:55] Speaker 1: had multiple phones hacked, and you said that really wasn't
[1:41:57] Speaker 1: possible without a third party app.
[1:41:59] Speaker 2: That's not necessarily true.
[1:42:00] Speaker 1: Routers and computers don't have the same level of encryption
[1:42:03] Speaker 1: as phones, and if a router is compromised, hackers could
[1:42:06] Speaker 1: potentially access other device on the network, including installed including
[1:42:09] Speaker 1: installing malware. Yes there's always that chance. Yes, that is
[1:42:14] Speaker 1: a possibility. I don't think it was probable in this circumstance.
[1:42:18] Speaker 1: Melissa writes in regarding hotel shampoo, many of us, especially women,
[1:42:22] Speaker 1: need sulfate free shampoo because of expensive hair treatment, so
[1:42:25] Speaker 1: we have to bring our own since most hotels don't
[1:42:27] Speaker 1: stock sulfate free options. Producer Adam is in today for Bobo.
[1:42:32] Speaker 1: He's got quite the lock of locks of hair, so
[1:42:36] Speaker 1: maybe he uses sul fight free. Amy in Paris writes
[1:42:40] Speaker 1: in I'm a third grade teacher starting my twenty seventh year.
[1:42:43] Speaker 1: Good for you, Amy, Oh my gosh. I used to
[1:42:46] Speaker 1: use an app called Doceri to take a picture of
[1:42:48] Speaker 1: a worksheet and write on my iPad while projecting it
[1:42:51] Speaker 1: for students. But the app is gone and my school
[1:42:53] Speaker 1: doesn't allow Apple devices. Apple TV won't work. I'm looking
[1:42:56] Speaker 1: for alternatives so I don't have to sit at my
[1:42:58] Speaker 1: desk with a document camera. Check out annotate dot net,
[1:43:02] Speaker 1: and then there's an app called Reflector. But if you
[1:43:05] Speaker 1: know an app, email me Hello at richon tech dot TV.
[1:43:08] Speaker 1: Let's help out. Amy in Paris. What works for you teachers?
[1:43:13] Speaker 1: Let's see here. Romaine in Greensboro, North Carolina rights and
[1:43:17] Speaker 1: I thought my Facebook was hacked because I kept getting
[1:43:20] Speaker 1: a login alerts from New Jersey and New York, even
[1:43:22] Speaker 1: after changing my password multiple times. Turns out the issue
[1:43:26] Speaker 1: was my VPN through McAfee. I turn it off just
[1:43:29] Speaker 1: before signing on. There's no problem. I enjoy the show.
[1:43:32] Speaker 1: Ah always Yeah. If you're having a problem ad blockers
[1:43:36] Speaker 1: and VPNs, turn them off. Nine times out of ten.
[1:43:39] Speaker 1: Your AD blocker or your VPN is keeping you from
[1:43:42] Speaker 1: being able to do something. Joseph in Saint Louis writes
[1:43:46] Speaker 1: in I listened to the podcast weekly during my ninety
[1:43:48] Speaker 1: minute walks and really enjoy your travel tips. It's critical
[1:43:51] Speaker 1: to take a picture of the odometer when picking up
[1:43:53] Speaker 1: and dropping off rental cars. For the second time in
[1:43:56] Speaker 1: two years, Budget build us for damage on a different rental.
[1:44:00] Speaker 1: In our case, the damage was logged at a certain number,
[1:44:02] Speaker 1: but our rental was at another number. Maybe they should
[1:44:04] Speaker 1: use AI to extract the odometer reading from photos. Interesting
[1:44:09] Speaker 1: Jackie writes in, I'm glad you covered Assurance Mobile trade
[1:44:12] Speaker 1: in findings, but I want to clarify one point. The
[1:44:15] Speaker 1: sixty percent increase was in the value returned to consumers,
[1:44:18] Speaker 1: not the volume of devices turned in. This highlights the
[1:44:21] Speaker 1: strong financial potential in the trade in market right now.
[1:44:26] Speaker 1: Thank you Jackie for clarifying that. Jim and Cedar Grove,
[1:44:29] Speaker 1: New Jersey, I know where that is, writes in I'm
[1:44:31] Speaker 1: still using quick in twenty thirteen to balance my checkbook.
[1:44:34] Speaker 1: I'm surprised it still works. I've been searching for an
[1:44:36] Speaker 1: open source replacement, but I'm not.
[1:44:38] Speaker 2: Sure what's safe.
[1:44:39] Speaker 1: I'd prefer free, but i'd also consider something with a
[1:44:42] Speaker 1: small purchase price. I would suggest checking out new Cash GnuCash.
[1:44:49] Speaker 1: It's a popular open source option for personal finance tracking.
[1:44:52] Speaker 1: I have not personally used it, but it is the
[1:44:54] Speaker 1: popular choice. I personally love Monarch Money. If you have
[1:44:59] Speaker 1: not tested that, tried out. It is paid, but it
[1:45:01] Speaker 1: is incredible. I don't know if it can balance your checkbook,
[1:45:04] Speaker 1: but it is really really great. Michael finally writes in
[1:45:08] Speaker 1: on your show, you said FE no longer stands for
[1:45:10] Speaker 1: fan edition, but I just watched Samsung's announcement, and they
[1:45:13] Speaker 1: still call it Fan Edition. Thanks for the clarification. Thanks
[1:45:17] Speaker 1: so much for listening. Next week TV expert Caleb Dennison.
[1:45:21] Speaker 1: There are so many ways you can spend your time.
[1:45:23] Speaker 1: I really do appreciate you spending it right here with me.
[1:45:26] Speaker 1: Please don't text and drive, not just for your safety,
