[1:21] Speaker 1: got a special guest, so stay tuned for that. Well,
[1:25] Speaker 1: I've got some news to share about this very show.
[1:28] Speaker 1: This is the last time we will be heard in
[1:31] Speaker 1: Los Angeles without also being heard in New York City.
[1:36] Speaker 2: That's right.
[1:37] Speaker 1: Starting today, we are coast to coast, and I'd like
[1:40] Speaker 1: to give you a warm welcome thank you if you're
[1:43] Speaker 1: listening on our newest station seven to ten WOAR.
[1:47] Speaker 2: In New York City.
[1:50] Speaker 1: Now, this is especially significant for me personally because I
[1:55] Speaker 1: grew up in New Jersey exit one point fifty three
[1:59] Speaker 1: for those of you wondering. And not only did I
[2:01] Speaker 1: grow up on New York City radio stations, I've long
[2:05] Speaker 1: loved every aspect of radio. In fact, you can even
[2:09] Speaker 1: see the New York City skyline from the top of
[2:11] Speaker 1: the street where I grew up. I have always loved
[2:14] Speaker 1: New York City. I still do. I will share more
[2:17] Speaker 1: about my journey throughout the show. We've been doing this
[2:19] Speaker 1: show now for two years, originating from Los Angeles, and
[2:23] Speaker 1: when I got this show, the very first question I
[2:26] Speaker 1: asked the powers that be is will I be on
[2:29] Speaker 1: in New York City? And they said no. So it
[2:32] Speaker 1: took a few years, but we made it here we
[2:34] Speaker 1: are now. You might be shocked as a new listener
[2:37] Speaker 1: and even surprised at how simple this show is. Yeah,
[2:40] Speaker 1: there's not much to it. It's just a tech show
[2:42] Speaker 1: that helps people. That's it. It's not sensational. We're not
[2:46] Speaker 1: filled with rumors and speculation. But I guarantee you it
[2:49] Speaker 1: is informative, it's consumer focused, and it is approachable with
[2:54] Speaker 1: practical advice, real reviews, helpful tips, and of course your questions.
[3:00] Speaker 1: You are the best part of this show, day in,
[3:03] Speaker 1: day out, So thank you for listening. Let's kick it
[3:05] Speaker 1: off this week with Amazon. The company announced an event
[3:09] Speaker 1: in New York City, happening on February twenty sixth, So fittingly,
[3:14] Speaker 1: I thought that was pretty cool.
[3:15] Speaker 2: The day we're on in New York City.
[3:17] Speaker 1: So my invite says, join Amazon Devices on February twenty
[3:21] Speaker 1: sixth in New York City and see what's next.
[3:25] Speaker 2: So I thought that was pretty interesting. According to The Verge.
[3:27] Speaker 1: Though the website The Verge, they saw that there were
[3:30] Speaker 1: five different invite styles. They all said something a little
[3:33] Speaker 1: bit different. But if you string them all together, they
[3:37] Speaker 1: spell out Alexa.
[3:39] Speaker 2: Oops, I just said it. Whoops.
[3:41] Speaker 1: Apologies, They spell out alex A in the background.
[3:45] Speaker 2: So what does that mean.
[3:47] Speaker 1: That means that we are going to see smart home devices,
[3:51] Speaker 1: the next generation of Amazon's smart home devices, and get
[3:55] Speaker 1: a look at the next generation AI powered I'm gonna say,
[3:59] Speaker 1: alex A just to not activate all of your speakers
[4:01] Speaker 1: at home.
[4:02] Speaker 2: But here's the thing.
[4:03] Speaker 1: This is a big moment for Amazon because they were
[4:06] Speaker 1: super early to the voice assistant game, right like everyone,
[4:10] Speaker 1: when they got one of those speakers, those echo speakers
[4:12] Speaker 1: in their home. The magic of being able to just
[4:15] Speaker 1: call something up, just saying, hey, play this song, or
[4:17] Speaker 1: play this radio station, or turn on those lights or
[4:20] Speaker 1: turn off that or answer this question.
[4:23] Speaker 2: It was incredible.
[4:24] Speaker 1: I mean I remember, I literally remember the first time
[4:27] Speaker 1: that I heard one of these echo speakers. Not to
[4:29] Speaker 1: mention the sound, the audio quality was excellent as well.
[4:33] Speaker 1: But this was a kind of a new moment in life.
[4:36] Speaker 1: But since then, alex A has remained mostly the same.
[4:40] Speaker 1: It still answers basic questions. It's mostly used to set
[4:43] Speaker 1: timers and control smart home devices. Meanwhile, the likes of Chat,
[4:47] Speaker 1: GBT and all these other assistants have really been taken
[4:50] Speaker 1: to the next level. So Amazon needs to get this right.
[4:54] Speaker 1: They've got millions of devices in people's homes, and they're
[4:58] Speaker 1: kind of walking a fine line here. They still need
[5:00] Speaker 1: those devices, even with the new AI to work properly
[5:03] Speaker 1: and the way that people know and love. So they
[5:06] Speaker 1: still need to be able to turn on and off
[5:07] Speaker 1: the lights, but they need to have that added magic
[5:11] Speaker 1: of AI that doesn't mess all of this up.
[5:14] Speaker 2: Now.
[5:14] Speaker 1: Amazon actually first previewed the new ELECTSA there I go,
[5:18] Speaker 1: I said it again, the New Voice in twenty twenty three,
[5:21] Speaker 1: but it's been delayed and delayed and delayed ever since
[5:25] Speaker 1: then because they've been figuring out how to make this work.
[5:27] Speaker 1: Apparently it's not easy because AI has a mind of
[5:31] Speaker 1: its own and you say, hey, turn off the lights
[5:33] Speaker 1: in the backyard, it may have other things that it
[5:35] Speaker 1: wants to do. So again, it has to ride this
[5:38] Speaker 1: line of getting the core functionality right but also adding
[5:42] Speaker 1: new functionality that people are going to love. Now, there
[5:45] Speaker 1: are some rumors circulating out there that Amazon wants to
[5:49] Speaker 1: charge ten dollars a month or up to ten dollars
[5:52] Speaker 1: a month to use this new AI assistant.
[5:55] Speaker 2: We'll see.
[5:56] Speaker 1: So far, if history is our guide, every single AI
[6:00] Speaker 1: company has given folks a standard level of service for
[6:04] Speaker 1: free and then an added level of service for a
[6:08] Speaker 1: paid cost. So if you go on chat GBT, you
[6:11] Speaker 1: can use it as much as you want. You're getting
[6:13] Speaker 1: maybe not the best model out there, maybe you're not
[6:16] Speaker 1: getting the most usage that you can if you're paying
[6:19] Speaker 1: for chat gibt. And by the way, they're paid plans
[6:22] Speaker 1: or anywhere from twenty dollars to two hundred dollars a month.
[6:25] Speaker 1: Same thing with Claude, same thing with if you look
[6:28] Speaker 1: at Google, they've got Google Gemini. A lot of these
[6:31] Speaker 1: AI companies are still figuring out what's that nice mix
[6:35] Speaker 1: of paid and also free access. So again, February twenty sixth,
[6:40] Speaker 1: big event in New York City with Amazon. I will
[6:42] Speaker 1: be there and I will tell you all of the
[6:44] Speaker 1: updates that you need to know. In other news this week,
[6:48] Speaker 1: Apple taking on Evite. Can you believe that twenty five
[6:53] Speaker 1: years into evite they are still the king of party invites? Like,
[6:57] Speaker 1: when you get an invite to a party, chances are
[7:00] Speaker 1: it's arriving on Evite. And this thing looks like it
[7:03] Speaker 1: was locked in time, right, Like Evite still looks like
[7:07] Speaker 1: nineteen ninety eight is calling. And that's fine because it
[7:10] Speaker 1: does what you need, right, It gets you the information.
[7:13] Speaker 1: What do you need on a party invite? The address
[7:15] Speaker 1: and the date and an RSVP yes or no. That's
[7:18] Speaker 1: about it. There's not much we need from invites. So
[7:21] Speaker 1: evite you pick your little picture, you pick your little theme.
[7:24] Speaker 1: You know, we send out our Halloween party invite, you know,
[7:26] Speaker 1: through Evite. And the thing is, everyone has their information
[7:29] Speaker 1: in evite already, so you've got your contacts in there.
[7:33] Speaker 1: It's it's simple. You just put the names in and
[7:36] Speaker 1: you send out the invite. But now Apple said, you
[7:39] Speaker 1: know what, we see an opportunity here, so they came
[7:40] Speaker 1: out with the new app this week called Apple Invites. Fittingly,
[7:44] Speaker 1: it's very simple. You enter an event title, the date
[7:47] Speaker 1: and time, the location, and that's about it, and you
[7:50] Speaker 1: send it off. Now this looks much more modern, it's
[7:53] Speaker 1: much more slick looking. Of course it's iPhone only because
[7:56] Speaker 1: it's Apple. There's even a They did some smart thing
[8:00] Speaker 1: so for instance, when you put the date and time in,
[8:02] Speaker 1: it'll put the weather for that day. So if it's
[8:04] Speaker 1: an outdoor party or whatever, some people just like to
[8:06] Speaker 1: know what the weather is going to be, like how
[8:08] Speaker 1: to dress for the party. So they've got that built in.
[8:11] Speaker 1: There's even an option to create a shared album. This
[8:14] Speaker 1: is actually pretty smart because you know, with every party
[8:16] Speaker 1: there's always that issue of how do we share the
[8:18] Speaker 1: party picks and videos with all the other guests. So
[8:21] Speaker 1: now you can just upload them to this shared album
[8:23] Speaker 1: and people will see them. So the app makes a
[8:25] Speaker 1: lot of sense. You've already got your photos on your phone,
[8:28] Speaker 1: You've got your contacts on your phone, so it's nice
[8:31] Speaker 1: and easy to build an invite and send it through
[8:34] Speaker 1: this new app. They also did something kind of fun.
[8:36] Speaker 1: If your phone supports AI, you can use AI to
[8:39] Speaker 1: generate backgrounds for your invites, so that's kind of cool.
[8:43] Speaker 1: So it all works together, and Apple promises that this
[8:46] Speaker 1: will work with non Apple users, but we know the
[8:49] Speaker 1: process is not going to be perfect because they want
[8:51] Speaker 1: everyone to have an iPhone, right. So I tried sending
[8:55] Speaker 1: a link to myself and accessing it from a non
[8:57] Speaker 1: Apple device, and at first I couldn't really figure it out.
[9:00] Speaker 1: It kept like asking me to log in or verify
[9:04] Speaker 1: my address, So it seems like you have to confirm
[9:07] Speaker 1: your email address with a one time code before you
[9:09] Speaker 1: can RSVP to the invite. The other catch is that
[9:13] Speaker 1: you have to have a subscription. Yes, this is not
[9:16] Speaker 1: just anyone with an iPhone. You have to have a
[9:18] Speaker 1: subscription to iCloud Plus, which is basically if you're paying
[9:22] Speaker 1: for any sort of storage on the iPhone that will
[9:25] Speaker 1: get you access to this new app. And my pal
[9:28] Speaker 1: Jefferson Graham, he figured out that your iCloud storage cannot
[9:32] Speaker 1: be full or your invite won't go through, so that's another.
[9:37] Speaker 2: Little catch there. Now.
[9:38] Speaker 1: I think the app is great, it's slick, it's nice
[9:40] Speaker 1: to have an option outside of Evite, and I'm sure
[9:44] Speaker 1: many folks who have an iPhone will use this. But
[9:47] Speaker 1: Apple Invites breaks one of my general rules in life,
[9:51] Speaker 1: and that is I prefer to use apps and services
[9:54] Speaker 1: that work equally well across every platform and the two
[9:59] Speaker 1: main platforms iPhone and Android. So for me personally, I
[10:02] Speaker 1: like to download apps that work on iPhone and work
[10:06] Speaker 1: on Android.
[10:06] Speaker 2: I know we have this whole.
[10:07] Speaker 1: Big divide between the blue bubble and the green bubble,
[10:10] Speaker 1: and it's gotten better, but why contribute to that? Right? Like,
[10:14] Speaker 1: this app is going to be used by so many
[10:15] Speaker 1: people that have iPhones. All the Android people that get
[10:18] Speaker 1: these invitations are going to feel like, ah, I'm a
[10:20] Speaker 1: little bit left out because I'm Android. So there are alternatives.
[10:25] Speaker 1: You can use something called party full. In fact, party
[10:27] Speaker 1: full made a big, kind of a big deal about
[10:30] Speaker 1: this online because they said that app will kind of
[10:33] Speaker 1: rip them off a little bit. So party full works
[10:35] Speaker 1: with green and blue bubbles, you've got punch bowl, you've
[10:38] Speaker 1: got paperless posts, and of course if you want to
[10:41] Speaker 1: use evite you still can. All right, Coming up on
[10:44] Speaker 1: today's show, I'm gonna tell you about another app. This
[10:47] Speaker 1: is a great app. You have to download this if
[10:49] Speaker 1: you have a Windows PC. It's a little sluggish, a
[10:51] Speaker 1: little weird. Download this free app. I'll tell you about that,
[10:54] Speaker 1: But first it is your turn. Your calls coming up
[10:57] Speaker 1: next at eight eight eight rich one oh one eight
[11:00] Speaker 1: eight seven four to two four one zero one. Give
[11:03] Speaker 1: me a call if you have a question about technology.
[11:04] Speaker 1: My name is rich DeMuro and you are listening to
[11:08] Speaker 1: rich on Tech.
[11:09] Speaker 2: Welcome back to rich on Tech.
[11:10] Speaker 1: Rich DeMuro here hanging out with you talking technology at
[11:14] Speaker 1: triple A rich one oh one. That's eight eight eight
[11:17] Speaker 1: seven four to two four one zero one. The website
[11:20] Speaker 1: for the show richon Tech dot TV. If you want
[11:24] Speaker 1: show notes, you can find them there. Just hit the
[11:26] Speaker 1: light bulb at the top of the page. Let's go
[11:29] Speaker 1: to Diana. Diana, you're on with Rich. Welcome to the show.
[11:33] Speaker 3: Hi Rich, thank you for taking my call.
[11:36] Speaker 2: Absolutely.
[11:38] Speaker 3: The question is I'm very new to home security cams
[11:43] Speaker 3: and I recently bought a b Link Mini and set
[11:47] Speaker 3: it up, which was pretty simple, and so I guess
[11:52] Speaker 3: I expected it to be able to continuously stream, but
[11:57] Speaker 3: it seems like it streams for like five minutes and
[12:02] Speaker 3: then goes up and you have to keep clicking this
[12:06] Speaker 3: like a play button to have it stream five more minutes.
[12:10] Speaker 3: And I guess, So my question is I'd like to
[12:14] Speaker 3: have something that will just stream continuously that I don't
[12:18] Speaker 3: have to pay a monthly fee for. So are any
[12:21] Speaker 3: of the current popular home security cameras able to do that?
[12:28] Speaker 3: And then also I was wondering if there's any iOS
[12:31] Speaker 3: apps that will let you convert old iPhones into home
[12:38] Speaker 3: like security cameras.
[12:40] Speaker 1: Ooh there is, Oh gosh, I gotta get that. There
[12:44] Speaker 1: is a there is an app that lets you do that.
[12:47] Speaker 1: I got to find it here.
[12:49] Speaker 2: Let's see.
[12:52] Speaker 1: So, okay, so your first question number one, the blink cameras,
[12:56] Speaker 1: those are really not meant to live stream. Those are
[13:00] Speaker 1: like out of all of the security cameras. Think of
[13:03] Speaker 1: the name Blink, right, So those those were invented for
[13:07] Speaker 1: quick clips. And the whole technology behind Blink is the
[13:11] Speaker 1: battery life. And so with a couple of double A
[13:15] Speaker 1: or triple A batteries whatever those little cameras take, those
[13:18] Speaker 1: cameras can last up to like two years without changing
[13:22] Speaker 1: the batteries.
[13:23] Speaker 3: Oh, the cameras that I have is plug in, so
[13:25] Speaker 3: it's required.
[13:26] Speaker 1: Well so yeah, I mean and still but the but
[13:29] Speaker 1: the idea behind Blink has always been it is not
[13:32] Speaker 1: a live streaming camera.
[13:33] Speaker 2: It is a camera, okay.
[13:35] Speaker 3: And I'm not too concerned with recording capability or.
[13:39] Speaker 2: You just want to watch the camera.
[13:40] Speaker 3: Mainly, I'm looking for a home security that will just
[13:43] Speaker 3: stream continuously that I can monitor.
[13:45] Speaker 1: Yeah, so I mean that's pretty much almost any camera
[13:49] Speaker 1: I would take a look at, Diane. I think the Diane,
[13:52] Speaker 1: I think the best one for you would be a
[13:54] Speaker 1: UFI eu f Y eu F Y. And what people
[13:58] Speaker 1: love about these cameras is that there's no monthly fees
[14:02] Speaker 1: associated with them. So and you can also have local storage,
[14:05] Speaker 1: so you can start with one. You can you know,
[14:08] Speaker 1: live stream it as much as you want, and you
[14:10] Speaker 1: can store stuff on a hard drive as well.
[14:12] Speaker 2: They sell that.
[14:13] Speaker 1: The other camera, if you want something that's a little
[14:15] Speaker 1: bit cheaper, is the Wysecam w y Z, Wisecam Wyze
[14:24] Speaker 1: and those are great and you can live stream those
[14:27] Speaker 1: as well. So now, some of these cameras sometimes will
[14:32] Speaker 1: have a timeout depending on the device you're looking at
[14:34] Speaker 1: them on, so it kind of depends on and also
[14:37] Speaker 1: the setup, so like some of the Ring cameras may
[14:39] Speaker 1: do that as well. But you know, I'm looking at
[14:42] Speaker 1: my wise cam right now and basically, yeah, you just
[14:46] Speaker 1: load it up and you can watch it now. There
[14:48] Speaker 1: were some limitations at one point when we were trying
[14:50] Speaker 1: to watch this through a Google Home device, But on
[14:54] Speaker 1: my on my phone right here, I can watch it
[14:57] Speaker 1: as much as I want. It's not it's not timing out.
[14:59] Speaker 1: So that's Those are the two brands I'd recommend for
[15:01] Speaker 1: that uf EU f Y and Wyse, and the Wyse
[15:06] Speaker 1: is going to be a little bit cheaper. They're known
[15:07] Speaker 1: for like pretty inexpensive cameras. Now, when it comes to
[15:11] Speaker 1: converting an old phone into a security camera, the app
[15:17] Speaker 1: that you want is called Alfred a l FR ed
[15:20] Speaker 1: Alfred Camera, and this is available for both Android and iPhone.
[15:25] Speaker 1: Now again, of course you want to you know, if
[15:27] Speaker 1: you're going to do this, you want to wipe the
[15:28] Speaker 1: phone clean, start over fresh, and then install just this
[15:32] Speaker 1: app on the phone, because you do need to leave
[15:34] Speaker 1: your phone plugged in and also on the whole time
[15:38] Speaker 1: if it's going to work that way. But this is
[15:40] Speaker 1: a popular app, it's got a lot going on. Let's
[15:43] Speaker 1: see if it's when the last time they were updated.
[15:45] Speaker 1: I always like, whenever I'm looking at an app to
[15:47] Speaker 1: see if it's a good app, you want to check
[15:50] Speaker 1: the last time it was updated. So if it was
[15:52] Speaker 1: updated in the last six months or something like that,
[15:54] Speaker 1: then great. Now this one was updated January sixteenth, twenty
[15:57] Speaker 1: twenty five, so that one's going to be great on
[15:59] Speaker 1: the androidd side, on the iPhone side January twenty third,
[16:04] Speaker 1: twenty twenty five. So again, this is the website Alfred
[16:07] Speaker 1: Alfried Dot Camera. The other thing I like to look
[16:11] Speaker 1: at is if there are any in app purchases. So
[16:16] Speaker 1: on Google they don't necessarily show you if there are
[16:19] Speaker 1: in app purchases, but if you look up the app
[16:21] Speaker 1: on the App Store and you scroll down, it will
[16:24] Speaker 1: tell you if there are any in app purchases. And
[16:27] Speaker 1: I'm looking at the Alfred it does say Alfred Premium
[16:31] Speaker 1: five ninety nine twelve months twenty nine ninety nine. So
[16:34] Speaker 1: that tells me that you'll get a free level of
[16:38] Speaker 1: usage out of this app, and then you have to
[16:41] Speaker 1: pay if you want something a little bit above and
[16:43] Speaker 1: beyond that.
[16:44] Speaker 2: So but yeah, this is super easy to use.
[16:47] Speaker 1: It says you can set it up in three minutes
[16:49] Speaker 1: and twenty four to seven livestream, watch the video from anywhere,
[16:54] Speaker 1: and you can change. You can convert an old iPhone
[16:57] Speaker 1: or an old Android phone into a security cam. This
[17:01] Speaker 1: great question, Diana, Thanks for kicking off the show with that.
[17:03] Speaker 2: Do appreciate it.
[17:05] Speaker 1: Eight eight eight rich one O one eight eight eight
[17:08] Speaker 1: seven four to two four one zero one. The website
[17:11] Speaker 1: for the show richon Tech dot tv. If you want
[17:14] Speaker 1: links to anything I mentioned, just go there and look up.
[17:17] Speaker 1: This is show number one zero eight.
[17:20] Speaker 2: Coming up, we will.
[17:21] Speaker 1: Talk to a special guest, plus I'll tell you about
[17:24] Speaker 1: the app you need to download if you have a
[17:26] Speaker 1: Windows PC. Welcome back to rich on Tech. Rich Demiro
[17:30] Speaker 1: here hanging out with you, talking technology at Triple A.
[17:33] Speaker 1: Rich one O one. That's eight eight eight seven four
[17:37] Speaker 1: to two four one zero one. The website for the
[17:40] Speaker 1: show rich on Tech dot TV. You can send me
[17:43] Speaker 1: an email there by hitting contact, And if you want
[17:46] Speaker 1: to follow me on social media, I am at rich
[17:48] Speaker 1: on Tech on Instagram.
[17:51] Speaker 2: So did you know that.
[17:52] Speaker 1: Microsoft has a free PC optimization app? I downloaded this yesterday,
[17:58] Speaker 1: and you know, if your system is running kind of
[18:00] Speaker 1: messy or sluggish or whatever you think something's going on,
[18:04] Speaker 1: download this app. It's called Microsoft PC Manager. Now, don't
[18:09] Speaker 1: just go searching on Google for that, because if you do,
[18:12] Speaker 1: it's going to lead you to one hundred different programs
[18:14] Speaker 1: that may or may not be the right one. So
[18:17] Speaker 1: the website Pcmanager dot Microsoft dot com. There's many imposters
[18:23] Speaker 1: out there, but this basically is for Windows ten and eleven.
[18:27] Speaker 1: It's a free utility and it offers all kinds of
[18:31] Speaker 1: built in tools to improve the performance of your computer
[18:33] Speaker 1: and free upspace and it's it's quite good, so you
[18:37] Speaker 1: can boost PC performance. So there's like one click to
[18:40] Speaker 1: clean up and free UPRAM and disk space. You can
[18:43] Speaker 1: manage your storage by getting rid of big files. There's
[18:47] Speaker 1: a health checkup feature so you can find and fix issues,
[18:50] Speaker 1: scan for threats on your computer, and clear out junk files.
[18:53] Speaker 1: There's a pop up management toggle so you can reduce
[18:56] Speaker 1: ads and pop ups, and then there's a whole bunch
[18:59] Speaker 1: of stuff. There's a Internet speed monitoring in the taskbar
[19:01] Speaker 1: if you want to see how fast your internet is,
[19:04] Speaker 1: and some widgets as well. But I installed this yesterday.
[19:07] Speaker 1: It is free, it's simple, it's easy. It comes directly
[19:10] Speaker 1: from Microsoft. And again it's called Microsoft PC Manager, So
[19:14] Speaker 1: if your computer's acting a little wonky, you got Windows
[19:17] Speaker 1: ten or Windows eleven, download this app. The alternative is
[19:21] Speaker 1: called Sea Cleaner. That's been the one over the years
[19:23] Speaker 1: that a lot of folks like I think that was
[19:26] Speaker 1: just purchased by another company. But anyway, this one's right
[19:29] Speaker 1: for Microsoft and super easy to install. So there you
[19:32] Speaker 1: have it, rich on tech dot tv if you want
[19:34] Speaker 1: to link to that. All right, let's bring on special guest.
[19:37] Speaker 1: You know, I mentioned that this is the first show
[19:41] Speaker 1: that we are broadcasting in New York City, so I
[19:43] Speaker 1: figured i'd bring on a special guest who knows the
[19:46] Speaker 1: Tri State.
[19:47] Speaker 2: Area well, and it is none other than my mom.
[19:51] Speaker 1: Welcome to the show, Mom, Hi Richard, thank you.
[19:55] Speaker 2: My mom is the only one who calls me Richard.
[19:57] Speaker 1: By the way, after all these years, you are Jersey
[20:02] Speaker 1: born and you've lived there forever. First off, are you
[20:07] Speaker 1: excited that you can finally hear me on the airwaves
[20:10] Speaker 1: in New York City?
[20:12] Speaker 4: Oh?
[20:12] Speaker 5: Yes, I'm very excited. Yes, I really am.
[20:15] Speaker 2: Have you told any of your friends?
[20:16] Speaker 5: I'm even more excited that because it was your dream.
[20:20] Speaker 5: But what's your question?
[20:22] Speaker 1: Have you told any of your friends? More importantly, are
[20:24] Speaker 1: you spreading the word?
[20:27] Speaker 5: Yes? Of course I did. I told a lot of
[20:30] Speaker 5: my friends. Of course I was bragging.
[20:31] Speaker 2: Yes, okay, all.
[20:33] Speaker 1: Right, so I guess typically when I call you, I
[20:35] Speaker 1: ask how your tech is doing?
[20:36] Speaker 2: So how is everything? Is everything working in your home?
[20:42] Speaker 1: Yeah?
[20:43] Speaker 5: Everything is? What once in a while my phone doesn't
[20:46] Speaker 5: make a sound when I get a text or something.
[20:49] Speaker 2: So, oh, look at the time we got to go
[20:51] Speaker 2: all right, Well, thank you mom for joining me. Appreciate that. No, well,
[20:56] Speaker 2: you know that happens.
[20:57] Speaker 6: That good.
[20:58] Speaker 5: But the good news is when I stilled an entire
[21:02] Speaker 5: cup of coffee on my laptop that's working.
[21:07] Speaker 7: Oh you know, go figure.
[21:10] Speaker 1: I've dropped coffee on my computer several times, and you
[21:14] Speaker 1: know you got to let it dry.
[21:15] Speaker 2: Out.
[21:16] Speaker 1: My main advice is to let it dry out. So
[21:19] Speaker 1: now here's the other thing. I know your cellular service
[21:21] Speaker 1: because I help you with it. It costs like fifteen
[21:24] Speaker 1: bucks a month. Does it really cost that much?
[21:30] Speaker 5: I don't know. I pay for the whole year, so
[21:32] Speaker 5: I don't really know what it costs a month.
[21:34] Speaker 2: But I mean, you have service that's pretty you know,
[21:36] Speaker 2: it's like I think it's Mint Mobile, right, isn't that
[21:38] Speaker 2: what it is? Yeah?
[21:39] Speaker 1: And you tell your friends that I only pay this much,
[21:41] Speaker 1: like under three hundred a year, and they don't believe you.
[21:45] Speaker 5: Well, yeah, because they don't believe that I get everything
[21:48] Speaker 5: for that cost.
[21:49] Speaker 2: Well, you don't get everything.
[21:50] Speaker 1: I think you only had like four gigs of data,
[21:52] Speaker 1: but you know, it's still only fifteen dollars a month.
[21:56] Speaker 5: I've never used all the gigs.
[21:59] Speaker 2: I'm surprised with all that scrolling on Facebook and Instagram.
[22:03] Speaker 5: No, I've never used them all, so go figure. But no,
[22:07] Speaker 5: but I have everything. I mean, I have everything on
[22:10] Speaker 5: my phone. Everybody else does and it's fine.
[22:14] Speaker 1: Okay, here's my other question for you. Now, you were
[22:18] Speaker 1: a Netflix kling on for many years, so you were
[22:23] Speaker 1: you were in the sharing economy of your family member
[22:26] Speaker 1: mainly me and maybe some other siblings.
[22:29] Speaker 4: Uh.
[22:30] Speaker 1: Netflix broke that functionality. They said no more, no more sharing.
[22:35] Speaker 1: So how long did you go without Netflix?
[22:37] Speaker 2: And what was that like?
[22:40] Speaker 5: I guess I won't about how it would be a year,
[22:44] Speaker 5: maybe maybe more. But the weird thing is Netflix would
[22:49] Speaker 5: would I would get Netflix every so often for about
[22:52] Speaker 5: a week and then they.
[22:53] Speaker 3: Would take it away.
[22:55] Speaker 2: Wow.
[22:55] Speaker 1: Okay, so this kind of came and went, well, now
[22:59] Speaker 1: you have Netflix for real.
[23:01] Speaker 2: Do you know why?
[23:04] Speaker 5: Excuse me?
[23:05] Speaker 2: Do you know why you have Netflix for real right now?
[23:08] Speaker 8: Yes?
[23:08] Speaker 5: Because you got it for me.
[23:10] Speaker 2: Yes, that's right.
[23:11] Speaker 1: I finally decided that my mom was worth nine dollars
[23:14] Speaker 1: a month for the added account that you can add
[23:17] Speaker 1: onto Netflix. So after all these months, I felt guilty
[23:20] Speaker 1: and I said, you know what, I think. I think
[23:22] Speaker 1: I could swing the nine dollars a month for my
[23:25] Speaker 1: mom to have Netflix. And are you have you watched
[23:27] Speaker 1: all of Netflix yet or what? Are you making your
[23:30] Speaker 1: way through it?
[23:32] Speaker 5: I haven't watched all of it, No, but I mean
[23:36] Speaker 5: I do put it on usually at night.
[23:38] Speaker 1: Yes, okay, Well, don't let it get in the in
[23:41] Speaker 1: the in the way of this show, all right, So
[23:43] Speaker 1: before you go. I do have a couple of questions
[23:45] Speaker 1: for you, like a little a little New York area
[23:49] Speaker 1: quiz for you. Okay, you ready?
[23:51] Speaker 4: Oh?
[23:52] Speaker 5: I hope I have the answers.
[23:53] Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, first question?
[23:56] Speaker 1: What states are in the tri state area?
[24:01] Speaker 5: New Jersey, New York, and Connecticut.
[24:03] Speaker 2: That's right? Okay, you got that right.
[24:05] Speaker 8: Uh?
[24:05] Speaker 6: Oh, I thank god?
[24:07] Speaker 2: Bagel buttered or cream cheese for me?
[24:12] Speaker 4: Buttered?
[24:12] Speaker 2: Oh that's me too, okay. See, oh yeah, I.
[24:16] Speaker 5: Don't really like cream cheese.
[24:18] Speaker 7: I like butter.
[24:18] Speaker 2: Okay.
[24:19] Speaker 1: As a Jersey in, what do you think of Jersey Mikes?
[24:25] Speaker 9: Pretty good?
[24:26] Speaker 5: Actually, I have a gift card to Jersey Mics that
[24:28] Speaker 5: I won at work. I haven't used it yet because
[24:30] Speaker 5: I keep forgetting.
[24:31] Speaker 2: We'll get that sub on.
[24:34] Speaker 5: It's pretty good, okay.
[24:37] Speaker 2: Uh? And uh Bruce Springsteen or bon Jovi?
[24:42] Speaker 5: I was always more a bon Jovi girl.
[24:45] Speaker 2: That's putting it lightly. Mom.
[24:51] Speaker 9: Why Yeah, I.
[24:52] Speaker 5: Like bon Jovi better than Bruce Springsteen Okay, mainly because
[24:55] Speaker 5: he's he's very good looking? Can I say that?
[25:00] Speaker 1: And he Why couldn't you say that? You don't think
[25:03] Speaker 1: anyone's ever thought that?
[25:05] Speaker 10: Yeah?
[25:06] Speaker 5: And I preferred music more than Christein but I also
[25:11] Speaker 5: like Bruce Springsteen, all.
[25:12] Speaker 1: Right, and favorite food from down the shore. That's what
[25:16] Speaker 1: we call it. By the way, New Jersey. You go
[25:17] Speaker 1: down the shore, up the lake, down the shore into
[25:20] Speaker 1: the city. So what do you what's your favorite food
[25:23] Speaker 1: growing up?
[25:23] Speaker 5: My favorite food I don't know, maybe pizza and Core's
[25:30] Speaker 5: ice cream.
[25:30] Speaker 1: I thought you're gonna say Core's light. I was like, whoa,
[25:34] Speaker 1: mom is getting a little sloppy.
[25:35] Speaker 5: Now, no, that would be no, that would be a martini.
[25:40] Speaker 2: But oha, oh, just going straight for the hard stuff. Okay,
[25:43] Speaker 2: all right.
[25:44] Speaker 1: Any advice for me as I embark on taking on
[25:46] Speaker 1: New York City with this show.
[25:51] Speaker 5: Any advice I think, just be yourself because you're part Jersey,
[25:56] Speaker 5: you're part California, and I think you have the best
[25:59] Speaker 5: of world and I think you're going to do great.
[26:04] Speaker 2: Actually, all right, well, thank you mom, Love you have
[26:07] Speaker 2: a good day.
[26:09] Speaker 5: Okay, love you.
[26:10] Speaker 1: I hope that internet continues to work. Thank you, appreciate it.
[26:14] Speaker 1: Uh that is my mom. Thank you mom for joining me.
[26:17] Speaker 1: All right, coming up, we're going to talk more more
[26:22] Speaker 1: tech eight eight eight rich one O one eight eight
[26:25] Speaker 1: eight seven four to two four one zero one.
[26:27] Speaker 2: I see your calls. I see on.
[26:29] Speaker 1: Hold, we'll get to those in just a moment. Welcome
[26:32] Speaker 1: back to Rich on Tech. Rich DeMuro here hanging out
[26:34] Speaker 1: with you, talking technology at Triple eight. Rich one O
[26:39] Speaker 1: one eight eight eight seven four to two four one
[26:41] Speaker 1: zero one.
[26:42] Speaker 2: Let's go to Mark. Mark, you're on with Rich. Welcome
[26:45] Speaker 2: to the show.
[26:46] Speaker 4: Hello Rich. We're very sad you're leading La just when
[26:50] Speaker 4: we really need you.
[26:52] Speaker 2: I'm not leaving LA.
[26:53] Speaker 1: Everyone's saying that, I'm just it's it's an expansion. I'm
[26:56] Speaker 1: staying in LA. We are just now on in New
[26:58] Speaker 1: York City.
[26:59] Speaker 2: So okay, just to be clear, Yeah, thank you. I
[27:02] Speaker 2: know I missed that.
[27:03] Speaker 1: People got a little upset. I got a bunch of emails.
[27:06] Speaker 1: So no, I'm still here. What can I help you with?
[27:09] Speaker 8: So?
[27:09] Speaker 4: I have an orb Mesh system which was not cheap,
[27:14] Speaker 4: about two and a half years old, and I just
[27:16] Speaker 4: added a new satellite to it and it does not connect.
[27:20] Speaker 4: I called orb Tech support and they said that I
[27:24] Speaker 4: need to renew this is the security subscription for three
[27:29] Speaker 4: hundred and twenty nine dollars. Wow, So I did what
[27:34] Speaker 4: and it's not working?
[27:35] Speaker 2: Oh? Come on, no way, that sounds like a scam.
[27:38] Speaker 2: Are you sure? You dialed the right phone number.
[27:41] Speaker 4: Well, how did you get the number that you follow?
[27:46] Speaker 4: I mean they had my account, they had you know,
[27:49] Speaker 4: they they had access to the you know.
[27:52] Speaker 2: Orb app and three nine dollars for what for five years? Okay?
[27:58] Speaker 2: For five years? Okay?
[28:00] Speaker 1: Uh divided by five okay, sixty five dollars a year?
[28:03] Speaker 1: What do you get for that?
[28:05] Speaker 4: You get?
[28:06] Speaker 6: You know?
[28:06] Speaker 4: It's I guess that they're saying that the system doesn't
[28:09] Speaker 4: that MESH systems don't really work unless you actually have
[28:13] Speaker 4: their security package and then you get the.
[28:16] Speaker 2: Whole text from Now this sounds bogus. I would I
[28:19] Speaker 2: would request a refund.
[28:21] Speaker 4: Okay this, but the satellite's not working though.
[28:24] Speaker 1: Well, okay, so there's two things going on here. First off,
[28:26] Speaker 1: I'm looking at the So is this like netgear armor?
[28:29] Speaker 1: Is that what is called?
[28:30] Speaker 4: Okay, No, it's not the armor. They said, that's something different.
[28:34] Speaker 2: Okay, So what what did you subscribe to?
[28:36] Speaker 4: They're calling it the security system that comes with it.
[28:40] Speaker 4: You get two years when you buy it, and they're
[28:44] Speaker 4: saying that it well, the whole system doesn't work unless
[28:47] Speaker 4: you have the security on it.
[28:51] Speaker 1: M that's that sounds very I mean number one, I
[28:56] Speaker 1: would not I would not even the fact that this
[29:00] Speaker 1: little satellite is not working and connecting. That could be
[29:03] Speaker 1: related to maybe the age of the system, like the
[29:07] Speaker 1: because you have an older system that you're connecting a
[29:09] Speaker 1: new satellite to.
[29:10] Speaker 4: But but it is the satellite that's made to connect
[29:14] Speaker 4: to that system, which they told me, you know, this
[29:17] Speaker 4: is the one if you buy it new, but it's
[29:20] Speaker 4: definitely made to connect to your satellite, your system.
[29:24] Speaker 1: Okay, well, there's no way that you need a subscription
[29:28] Speaker 1: to connect this satellite. I just I don't believe that.
[29:31] Speaker 1: I have to do some more research, but okay, I
[29:33] Speaker 1: have So I have the eurosystem, and yes, they also
[29:36] Speaker 1: sell a subscription yearly, and the subscription gives you some
[29:40] Speaker 1: added things like extra security, you know, malware and that
[29:44] Speaker 1: kind of stuff.
[29:45] Speaker 4: Protection. It does all that. And I also do have
[29:47] Speaker 4: an Eero system at another place, and when I asked
[29:52] Speaker 4: them about it, they said, well, yeah, well the euro
[29:55] Speaker 4: comes with five years when you buy it, then you
[29:58] Speaker 4: have to add on years. You know, at that point
[30:00] Speaker 4: it's absolute all right, So you're saying that that's.
[30:03] Speaker 1: I'm saying that this is all This all sounds bogus
[30:06] Speaker 1: to me, Like I think they just sold you on
[30:08] Speaker 1: this subscription that you I don't think you need it, Like,
[30:11] Speaker 1: I'll be honest, the only reason why I do the
[30:13] Speaker 1: subscription on my my ero is because it blocks ads
[30:17] Speaker 1: across the network and it gives me some parental controls
[30:20] Speaker 1: that I want for my kids.
[30:22] Speaker 2: So does it.
[30:23] Speaker 4: Give me actual you know, security?
[30:26] Speaker 2: It it does?
[30:27] Speaker 1: I mean, it says it does. So, I mean it
[30:30] Speaker 1: probably does scan the the URLs and things. But if
[30:33] Speaker 1: you're using like a modern browser like Chrome, that's doing
[30:36] Speaker 1: that anyway. So I mean I think that you know, look,
[30:39] Speaker 1: it's one of these things. I think there's two things
[30:41] Speaker 1: going on here. Do you want to pay the three
[30:42] Speaker 1: twenty nine for the five years? I don't like the
[30:45] Speaker 1: sales tactics that they gave you, that says, And I
[30:48] Speaker 1: think you need to figure out why this this satellite
[30:51] Speaker 1: device is not connecting to the network, Like why is
[30:54] Speaker 1: it not adding it?
[30:54] Speaker 2: What?
[30:55] Speaker 1: What's the hold up? Like does it see it and
[30:57] Speaker 1: then it doesn't connect or does it not even see
[30:59] Speaker 1: it when you're trying to connect?
[31:02] Speaker 4: You know on the uh what's it called the network chart?
[31:06] Speaker 4: You know everything is green, that one is orange the
[31:10] Speaker 4: network map. And so but now they're working on it.
[31:14] Speaker 4: I mean, you know, they guy, they do call me
[31:16] Speaker 4: and they have someone assigned to it from Bangalore. But
[31:20] Speaker 4: I was suspicious when as soon as they did the network,
[31:24] Speaker 4: as soon as I paid, and they said that's going
[31:26] Speaker 4: to be it, and it didn't. And they said, well
[31:28] Speaker 4: it takes forty eight hours.
[31:29] Speaker 1: Oh come on, eight hours, Mark, I think I think
[31:32] Speaker 1: sold here. Did you check your credit card to see
[31:35] Speaker 1: where the charge came from?
[31:37] Speaker 4: Oh? Okay? And then and then the reason I'm doing
[31:42] Speaker 4: is because I have an R Low doorbell camera and
[31:44] Speaker 4: I have a house on lots of levels which is
[31:46] Speaker 4: having image trouble. So I figured that it was having
[31:50] Speaker 4: image trouble because of the distance between the R Low
[31:53] Speaker 4: camera and this and this satellite I have on like
[31:57] Speaker 4: a three or four story house.
[31:58] Speaker 2: That's probably true. Yeah, okay.
[32:01] Speaker 1: You know when the when the ring doorbells first came out,
[32:03] Speaker 1: everyone thought they were horrible because they thought they didn't work.
[32:06] Speaker 1: But it really it's just a Wi Fi was not
[32:09] Speaker 1: ready for that level of streaming outside the house.
[32:12] Speaker 8: Right.
[32:13] Speaker 1: So here's what I here's what I do, Mark. I mean,
[32:15] Speaker 1: you've got a couple of things going on here. Number one,
[32:17] Speaker 1: I would check to make sure that this charge was legitimate.
[32:20] Speaker 1: It says that they saw your your account and all
[32:22] Speaker 1: that stuff. They could have been making that up. It
[32:24] Speaker 1: sounds a little suspicious to me. I'm trying to find
[32:27] Speaker 1: and this is another issue with their with their subscription.
[32:30] Speaker 1: It's like I can't even see on their website what
[32:33] Speaker 1: this subscription costs. I mean, it's like it's so hidden
[32:37] Speaker 1: that I don't even Okay, So Neckgear Armor and then
[32:40] Speaker 1: Neckgear Pro Support, so there's a there are three different
[32:43] Speaker 1: subscriptions they have here, and I'm looking at compare plans,
[32:48] Speaker 1: and even when I look at the plan, it still
[32:50] Speaker 1: doesn't tell me how much it is. So I don't
[32:52] Speaker 1: like that. That is not very transparent, and you know
[32:55] Speaker 1: I don't so I don't like that tactic. And then
[32:59] Speaker 1: the thing not working I would do. I would do
[33:01] Speaker 1: a factory. First off, here's here's the order in which
[33:05] Speaker 1: I would do things. Number One, I confirm that you
[33:07] Speaker 1: were actually talking to Orby and Neckgear and make sure
[33:11] Speaker 1: that that charge came from them, So I check your
[33:13] Speaker 1: credit card, make sure that it's a legitimate charge from
[33:15] Speaker 1: that company. Number two, look at the services that you
[33:19] Speaker 1: get for that subscription. If you feel like it's reasonable,
[33:22] Speaker 1: keep it whatever. Number three, you got to figure out
[33:25] Speaker 1: why this little satellite is not connecting to your network.
[33:28] Speaker 1: And what I would do now that you have this subscription,
[33:31] Speaker 1: I would make sure you update the software on that satellite.
[33:34] Speaker 1: If you can't do that, disconnect it, factory reset it,
[33:38] Speaker 1: update the software on your whole network, and then try
[33:41] Speaker 1: to reconnect that little satellite and hopefully it should come
[33:44] Speaker 1: back to life and be on your network. But this
[33:46] Speaker 1: whole business of your your system won't work if you're
[33:49] Speaker 1: not paying for this subscription. As far as I know,
[33:52] Speaker 1: none of the Mesh networks work that way. But of
[33:56] Speaker 1: course the way of the world right now, everything everyone
[34:00] Speaker 1: wants a subscription, and so I understand that they're trying
[34:03] Speaker 1: to sell you on that. I don't necessarily think you
[34:05] Speaker 1: need that to make this work. But thanks for the
[34:09] Speaker 1: call mark appreciate it. Eight A eight rich one O
[34:11] Speaker 1: one eight eight eight seven four to two four one
[34:15] Speaker 1: zero one. Well, speaking of free, the Windows Intelligence Newsletter
[34:21] Speaker 1: had a good spot on free VPNs. So I know
[34:24] Speaker 1: everyone's looking for a VPN and there's a whole bunch
[34:27] Speaker 1: of them out there. I mean, there's so many paid
[34:29] Speaker 1: and free. But Chris Hoffman writing in this newsletter, Windows
[34:33] Speaker 1: Intelligence Newsletter said there's two that he recommends that he likes,
[34:37] Speaker 1: and he says these are two solid free VPN options.
[34:40] Speaker 1: Win Scribe wind Scribe, no speed throttling, full VPN experience,
[34:45] Speaker 1: limited to ten gigs a month, so if you just
[34:47] Speaker 1: need ten gigs, Winscribe is your is your VPN, and
[34:52] Speaker 1: then Proton. Proton VPN has no data cap, but the
[34:57] Speaker 1: free servers, he says, can be a little bit slower.
[35:00] Speaker 1: So if you're looking for a VPN for your Windows
[35:02] Speaker 1: computer or even your mobile device, these are two solid
[35:06] Speaker 1: free options, Winscribe and Proton VPN. I'll put a link
[35:10] Speaker 1: to this on the website rich on tech dot tv
[35:13] Speaker 1: And if you like Windows tips like that, Chris does
[35:16] Speaker 1: a great job and his Intelligence newsletter of highlighting that stuff.
[35:19] Speaker 1: I mean, do you need a VPN? You know, My
[35:22] Speaker 1: advice on the VPN typically is don't be checking your
[35:25] Speaker 1: financial and secure accounts outside of the house if you're
[35:29] Speaker 1: not using one, right, use a cellular connection on your
[35:32] Speaker 1: home PC if you're at a hotel something like that.
[35:34] Speaker 2: You know, there are times when you might want to
[35:36] Speaker 2: use a VPN.
[35:37] Speaker 1: Eight to eight Rich one O one eight eight eight
[35:39] Speaker 1: seven four to two four one zero one. This is
[35:42] Speaker 1: rich on Tech. Welcome back to rich On Tech. Rich
[35:45] Speaker 1: DeMuro here hanging out with you, talking technology at Triple
[35:49] Speaker 1: eight rich one oh one eight eight eight seven four
[35:53] Speaker 1: to two four one zero one. Hope you're having a
[35:57] Speaker 1: great day. The website for the show is rich john
[36:00] Speaker 1: Tech dot tv. Go there, hit the light bulb, you
[36:04] Speaker 1: can get the show notes, or you can hit contact
[36:07] Speaker 1: to send me an email. Got a bunch of emails
[36:10] Speaker 1: people saying I'm no longer gonna have this show in
[36:13] Speaker 1: Los Angeles.
[36:14] Speaker 2: That's not true.
[36:15] Speaker 1: I made a joke at the beginning of the show.
[36:17] Speaker 1: I said it was the last time you're gonna be
[36:19] Speaker 1: able to I said it was the last time you're
[36:21] Speaker 1: going to be able to listen to me in Los Angeles,
[36:25] Speaker 1: something like that, without it also being on in New
[36:26] Speaker 1: York anyway. So now we're on in both places and
[36:29] Speaker 1: other places as well. So but this is the first
[36:32] Speaker 1: day of New York City. So thanks for listening if
[36:34] Speaker 1: you're there, and if you're still with me in LA
[36:37] Speaker 1: which you should be hopefully, thank you for listening there
[36:39] Speaker 1: or anywhere else you might be.
[36:41] Speaker 2: Uh, let's see, let's go to the phones. Let's go
[36:43] Speaker 2: to Katie. Let's go to Katie. You're on with Rich. Katie.
[36:47] Speaker 2: Welcome to the show.
[36:49] Speaker 8: Hi, Rich.
[36:49] Speaker 3: How's it going.
[36:50] Speaker 2: It is going fantastic?
[36:53] Speaker 8: Oh good.
[36:53] Speaker 9: You know I said I love your show. At first,
[36:56] Speaker 9: I wasn't, you know, I just I've been listening to
[36:58] Speaker 9: Leo forever and I was like, I don't know about
[37:00] Speaker 9: this guy, but I really enjoyed the show.
[37:02] Speaker 1: Oh well, thank you. I've liked myself more over the
[37:05] Speaker 1: years too. I started out that way.
[37:07] Speaker 9: Yeah, I mean I have a question. You know, my
[37:09] Speaker 9: fiance and I were getting married pretty Stone, and there
[37:12] Speaker 9: are two different songs I want to play walking to
[37:15] Speaker 9: the altar and having the bridesmaid walk to the altar,
[37:18] Speaker 9: and I want to the two songs. I want to
[37:21] Speaker 9: get like at least fifteen to thirty or fifteen to
[37:24] Speaker 9: thirty seconds of each song and combine them. Is there
[37:28] Speaker 9: a website that's free I could do that.
[37:30] Speaker 6: Yes.
[37:31] Speaker 1: Well, first off, congrats on getting married. That's exciting.
[37:35] Speaker 9: Oh thank you, he's lucky.
[37:38] Speaker 1: I like the way you think Bobo is just shaking
[37:40] Speaker 1: his head. He's like, oh that's funny. Yeah, So congratulations,
[37:47] Speaker 1: And so you want to combine a couple songs. There's many,
[37:50] Speaker 1: many ways you can do this. There's a website that
[37:54] Speaker 1: will let you do it for free. I mean, the
[37:56] Speaker 1: free app that will let you do it is called Audacity,
[37:58] Speaker 1: but I'll be honest, I never even use that because
[38:02] Speaker 1: that's so complicated, even for me. So when I edit
[38:05] Speaker 1: my video, I or sorry, when I edit audio, I
[38:07] Speaker 1: do it all on Final Cut, which makes life a
[38:10] Speaker 1: lot easier, even though that's meant for editing video, but
[38:14] Speaker 1: it still works with audio.
[38:15] Speaker 2: But anyway, But the.
[38:16] Speaker 1: Website is audio mass dot co au d io mass
[38:21] Speaker 1: m a s S dot co. And this website you
[38:26] Speaker 1: can just drag and drop those songs in there dragon
[38:29] Speaker 1: you know, just go ahead and clip the parts that
[38:31] Speaker 1: you don't want. I'm just going through right now. It's
[38:33] Speaker 1: super super easy. It's all web based. It is like
[38:37] Speaker 1: the easiest possible thing. Even if you're a novice you
[38:39] Speaker 1: haven't used anything with audio editing. Just look at the waveforms,
[38:43] Speaker 1: clip the parts you want, drag the other one in
[38:45] Speaker 1: and then export it and you should be good to go.
[38:48] Speaker 9: Oh perfect, that sounds good. I was looking at apps
[38:50] Speaker 9: last night. I don't want to spend fifteen dollars or
[38:52] Speaker 9: you know, noney.
[38:54] Speaker 2: No, why spend money when you don't have to?
[38:56] Speaker 1: I mean, I mean, look, there are other apps that
[38:59] Speaker 1: can do this, like do you have an iPhone or Android?
[39:01] Speaker 9: An iPhone?
[39:02] Speaker 1: Okay, I mean there's so many ways you can do this.
[39:04] Speaker 1: I mean you could you can also just use a
[39:09] Speaker 1: well I guess I'm trying to think if one of
[39:10] Speaker 1: these video editing apps would also let you export into
[39:14] Speaker 1: an MP three version, which I don't know.
[39:17] Speaker 2: Usually they're just audio video.
[39:19] Speaker 1: But I would just use the website audiomass dot cou.
[39:22] Speaker 1: That's probably the easiest, simplest way to do it. So
[39:24] Speaker 1: I would do that. And if you if that doesn't, like,
[39:27] Speaker 1: if you need something that's more full featured, then I
[39:30] Speaker 1: would check out Audacity.
[39:31] Speaker 2: And that's completely free as well. It's open source, so
[39:34] Speaker 2: it open source it maybe okay, perfect that may not
[39:38] Speaker 2: be open source, but it's you can get it for free.
[39:40] Speaker 2: So okay, all right, Katie, Well, very exciting. When's the
[39:44] Speaker 2: big date? When's the when's the wedding? February twenty second
[39:48] Speaker 2: this year?
[39:50] Speaker 7: Yeah, this year?
[39:50] Speaker 2: Yeah, my gosh, I think I have something on that day.
[39:53] Speaker 2: Oh my god. I'll clear everything out. It's fine, I'll
[39:55] Speaker 2: figure it out.
[39:56] Speaker 9: Yeah, yeah, come on down.
[39:58] Speaker 2: All right.
[39:58] Speaker 1: Well, congratulations, have a great wedding day, and please email
[40:03] Speaker 1: me to let me know if that worked for you.
[40:04] Speaker 11: Okay, okay, thank you so much.
[40:07] Speaker 10: I really appreciate it.
[40:07] Speaker 2: All right, Thanks, have a great day.
[40:09] Speaker 1: Eighty eight rich one O one eight eight eight seven
[40:12] Speaker 1: four to two four one zero one. Skip from Aurora
[40:18] Speaker 1: writes in I'm looking to invest in headphones for commercial
[40:21] Speaker 1: flights and need some advice. Should I go with wired
[40:24] Speaker 1: or wireless? Also, do headphones typically come with adapters for
[40:28] Speaker 1: inflight entertainment or is that something I'd need to buy separately?
[40:32] Speaker 1: If so, what adapters do you recommend? Good question, Skip.
[40:36] Speaker 1: I do fly a decent amount, and I do have
[40:38] Speaker 1: one rule of flying, and that is I have never
[40:42] Speaker 1: watched a movie on the inflight entertainment ever, maybe once
[40:47] Speaker 1: in my entire life. But it's a rule of thumb
[40:50] Speaker 1: that I've done for so long that now I just refuse.
[40:54] Speaker 1: And I know I'm weird because of that, but I
[40:56] Speaker 1: like it because it's like one of those things where
[40:57] Speaker 1: you start and you can never stop, like you have
[40:59] Speaker 1: to keep doing it just so I can say this forever.
[41:03] Speaker 1: But if you must watch stuff, on the seat back,
[41:05] Speaker 1: and by the way, everyone else does except for me.
[41:09] Speaker 1: You should definitely get a good pair of noise canceling headphones,
[41:13] Speaker 1: and most of them are wireless, but a lot of
[41:16] Speaker 1: them do have a wired option. But I'm gonna give
[41:19] Speaker 1: you a couple of things that you should know. So
[41:21] Speaker 1: number one, Bluetooth headphones. I would get the noise canceling
[41:24] Speaker 1: and the Bluetooth because then you can use them with
[41:26] Speaker 1: everything else, right, you can use them with your smartphone,
[41:28] Speaker 1: your computer, whatever else you want to use these headphones with.
[41:31] Speaker 1: That's why I get the Bluetooth instead of a standard
[41:34] Speaker 1: pair of wired without Bluetooth. But most of the Bluetooth
[41:37] Speaker 1: actually come or a lot of them come with a
[41:39] Speaker 1: plug that you can plug them in as well. The
[41:42] Speaker 1: thing is to know is that some of them need
[41:44] Speaker 1: to be charged to actually work with the plug in.
[41:48] Speaker 1: So that's something to know. Like if you just bring
[41:49] Speaker 1: these things on the flight and they're the batteries dead,
[41:51] Speaker 1: you may not be able to listen, So always keep
[41:53] Speaker 1: them charged and the battery lasts forever for the most part.
[41:57] Speaker 1: But the two brands that I like are Bows and
[42:00] Speaker 1: so of course you know it's kind of a it's
[42:03] Speaker 1: a personal preference if you if you want those, you
[42:07] Speaker 1: know which one to get. But I think that those
[42:09] Speaker 1: two are known to be the best, and you know,
[42:13] Speaker 1: I've had both over the years, and I think they're
[42:14] Speaker 1: both excellent. I think that the bows are just so comfortable.
[42:18] Speaker 1: You pay a premium form obviously, but the Sony's you
[42:20] Speaker 1: can often find on sale. They might be a little
[42:22] Speaker 1: bit cheaper, and you know they're both gonna be great.
[42:25] Speaker 1: The other ones that I like that I would recommend
[42:29] Speaker 1: as well are the son Nos Ace And this is
[42:31] Speaker 1: our first pair of headphones from Sonos, but they are excellent.
[42:35] Speaker 1: Right now, they're even one hundred dollars off, they're three
[42:37] Speaker 1: hundred and fifty dollars, so they are expensive, probably more
[42:40] Speaker 1: than the Bow's and the Sony's, but they are really
[42:42] Speaker 1: comfortable and really good. And if you have a Sonos
[42:44] Speaker 1: system at home, they may work with that. So those
[42:47] Speaker 1: are my three choices for the headphones. Now, when it
[42:51] Speaker 1: comes to listening on the seatback, a lot of the
[42:54] Speaker 1: seatback entertainment systems still use a standard headphone jack instead
[42:58] Speaker 1: of Bluetooth. Some of the new planes do have bluetooth. Now,
[43:01] Speaker 1: I will tell you the one time I had a
[43:03] Speaker 1: plane that had the Bluetooth. I noticed there's something weird
[43:07] Speaker 1: about connecting AirPods to it. I don't know what it is,
[43:10] Speaker 1: but I notice people all the time have issues connecting
[43:13] Speaker 1: their AirPods to it. I don't know why. Even I did,
[43:15] Speaker 1: I could not get my AirPods to connect. Maybe they
[43:17] Speaker 1: came out with an update that fixes that. But the
[43:20] Speaker 1: thing I would recommend is called the Airfly adapter. So
[43:24] Speaker 1: Airfly from a company named twelve South. I think they
[43:28] Speaker 1: made their name on this Bluetooth transmitter device. It plugs
[43:31] Speaker 1: in matt It's a little tiny square box. It's tiny,
[43:34] Speaker 1: almost like a keychain dongle. You plug it into the
[43:37] Speaker 1: headphone jack on the seat pack, and that has a
[43:40] Speaker 1: Bluetooth transmitter that will now transmit that audio signal to
[43:45] Speaker 1: your headphone. So basically what I'm telling you is that,
[43:48] Speaker 1: for let's see, how much is this thing thirty five
[43:51] Speaker 1: to sixty bucks, you can use your headphones on any
[43:55] Speaker 1: plane no matter what.
[43:57] Speaker 2: And this Airfly if you get.
[43:59] Speaker 1: The the premium one, the Deluxe for sixty five bucks.
[44:03] Speaker 2: It even comes to that little adapter.
[44:04] Speaker 1: You know, sometimes the planes have that weird like two
[44:06] Speaker 1: prong headphone adapter. I don't know what that's all about,
[44:09] Speaker 1: but a lot of them do that. But that will
[44:12] Speaker 1: come with this Airfly as well. So again, Bose Sony
[44:16] Speaker 1: Sons for your headphones and then the Airfly adapter, and
[44:19] Speaker 1: you will be a frequent flyer skip and people will
[44:22] Speaker 1: think you are Yeah, they'll be asking you this question
[44:26] Speaker 1: next year. So good question, Thanks for the call, Thanks
[44:29] Speaker 1: for the email. Rather rich on tech dot tv. If
[44:32] Speaker 1: you want to send me an email, go to rich
[44:34] Speaker 1: on tech dot tv and up at the top you
[44:37] Speaker 1: can hit contact. If you want to send me an email,
[44:39] Speaker 1: you can hit the there's a light bulb icon if
[44:43] Speaker 1: you want show notes. This is episode one oh eight,
[44:46] Speaker 1: and if you hit the magnifying glass, that will actually
[44:48] Speaker 1: take you to a search function, which is really good.
[44:51] Speaker 1: If you can just remember one thing I said on
[44:53] Speaker 1: the show, type in that term and I'm telling you.
[44:55] Speaker 2: It will come up. It's really really good. No surprise here.
[44:59] Speaker 1: Security flaws found in deep Seek in their iOS app
[45:04] Speaker 1: now Secure, the mobile security firm found multiple critical security
[45:08] Speaker 1: and privacy vulnerabilities deep Seek. If you remember, is that
[45:13] Speaker 1: startup AI out of China. This was the top downloaded
[45:17] Speaker 1: app on both iPhone and Android millions of downloads. So
[45:21] Speaker 1: this came out about January twenty fifth, and you know,
[45:24] Speaker 1: people were trying it out seeing how it was compared
[45:26] Speaker 1: against chat GPT. I downloaded it, but you know, I
[45:30] Speaker 1: just did it mostly to test it out. I'm not
[45:32] Speaker 1: switching to deep Seek. I mostly wanted to see what
[45:34] Speaker 1: they were doing. But the findings from this now secure
[45:37] Speaker 1: mobile firm include unencrypted data transmission that means they're sending
[45:41] Speaker 1: whatever you write into this thing over the Internet without
[45:44] Speaker 1: encrypting it, weak encryption and other places insecure storage of
[45:48] Speaker 1: usernames and passwords, and extensive data collections. Some of the
[45:52] Speaker 1: data even went to byte Dance, which you know they
[45:55] Speaker 1: are the ones that own TikTok. So we knew that
[45:58] Speaker 1: this was going to be a problem with this app
[46:00] Speaker 1: deep Seek. I don't think necessarily they are an nefarious app.
[46:05] Speaker 1: But again, they put this thing together pretty quickly and
[46:07] Speaker 1: a lot of people started using it because wow, it's
[46:10] Speaker 1: the new thing, and how did they do this for
[46:12] Speaker 1: so cheap.
[46:12] Speaker 2: Well, now we know they probably cut a few corners,
[46:15] Speaker 2: So just.
[46:15] Speaker 1: Be aware if you're gonna use deep seek on your
[46:17] Speaker 1: phone that you know there could be some data leaks
[46:19] Speaker 1: there eighty eight rich one O one eight eight eight
[46:22] Speaker 1: seven four to two four one zero one.
[46:25] Speaker 2: Coming up, we're gonna talk more tech, more of your calls,
[46:28] Speaker 2: and we've got.
[46:29] Speaker 1: Joanna Stern from the Wall Street Journal right here on
[46:31] Speaker 1: rich on Tech. Welcome back to rich on Tech. Rich
[46:34] Speaker 1: Demiro here hanging out with you, talking technology at triple
[46:39] Speaker 1: eight rich one oh one. That's eight eight eight seven
[46:42] Speaker 1: four to two four one zero one. Well, thank you, Taylor,
[46:51] Speaker 1: you're so corney.
[46:52] Speaker 12: Uh.
[46:53] Speaker 1: We've got Bobo on the board. We've got Kim on
[46:55] Speaker 1: the phones. We've got me uh talking to you at
[46:59] Speaker 1: eight eight eight rich one on one. We've got the
[47:01] Speaker 1: website rich on Tech dot TV. This is the show
[47:05] Speaker 1: where I talk about the tech stuff I think you
[47:06] Speaker 1: should know about. So it's all the information throughout the
[47:10] Speaker 1: week that I distill and say this is the important stuff.
[47:13] Speaker 1: And then of course we have your questions. Uh, let's
[47:16] Speaker 1: get to one of those questions. Let's go to Adam.
[47:20] Speaker 1: Where are we Adam?
[47:23] Speaker 2: Adam, You're on with rich.
[47:26] Speaker 6: Hi, Rich Thanks for taking my call.
[47:29] Speaker 7: I had a question about a flash drive. I use
[47:34] Speaker 7: different flash drives for different reasons, usually because some because.
[47:41] Speaker 1: Of my work.
[47:42] Speaker 7: So if I have a client files, then I'm moving
[47:45] Speaker 7: from my home computer where I work from home to
[47:48] Speaker 7: a laptop if I'm on the road or whatever. I
[47:51] Speaker 7: use that flash drive for that client's file that I
[47:54] Speaker 7: work with. And so I have different flash drives that
[47:58] Speaker 7: I use, but one of my main one that I
[48:02] Speaker 7: used was to back up my old computer that died
[48:06] Speaker 7: a couple of years ago, and I took it to
[48:09] Speaker 7: Best Buy and they recovered the hard drive, but they
[48:13] Speaker 7: couldn't repair it. They put the hard drive, the contents
[48:17] Speaker 7: of that hard drive on the old computer onto a
[48:20] Speaker 7: flash drive, a PNY flash drive that they sold me
[48:25] Speaker 7: at Best Buys.
[48:26] Speaker 6: So I brought it home.
[48:27] Speaker 7: And it's been a couple of years and I still
[48:30] Speaker 7: had my old files on it, but I've transferred them
[48:32] Speaker 7: onto my new PC. However, I noticed that just a
[48:38] Speaker 7: couple of days ago, I was accessing something on that
[48:42] Speaker 7: pn Y flash drive and it said a Windows error
[48:48] Speaker 7: message came up that there was a problem with it,
[48:50] Speaker 7: and it asked me to repair it, and so I
[48:53] Speaker 7: said yes, I clicked yes, go repair it, and it did.
[48:58] Speaker 7: And I checked to see that the files were available,
[49:00] Speaker 7: and they were.
[49:01] Speaker 6: But my question to you is.
[49:05] Speaker 7: Should should I avoid p and Y flash drives. Should
[49:10] Speaker 7: I replace it or is it good now that Windows
[49:12] Speaker 7: fixed it? Or should I just get rid of it
[49:14] Speaker 7: and get a new one? Are they reliable?
[49:17] Speaker 6: What do you think?
[49:18] Speaker 2: Pn Y is fine?
[49:19] Speaker 1: I use pn Y sand Disc obviously is the other
[49:22] Speaker 1: big brand out there, but I would say yes, get
[49:25] Speaker 1: a new one. I would not trust this drive anymore
[49:28] Speaker 1: because the fact that there was some sort of corruption
[49:30] Speaker 1: on it means that that may happen again, and the
[49:33] Speaker 1: next time it happens, you may not be able to
[49:35] Speaker 1: recover this stuff. Now it sounds like you have these
[49:38] Speaker 1: files in a different place. Is that what I understood?
[49:42] Speaker 7: Yes, So it's interesting. The ones for the client files
[49:47] Speaker 7: that I keep on different flash drives to shuttle back
[49:50] Speaker 7: and forth. I do back them up on my PC,
[49:55] Speaker 7: but I keep them on their individual flash drives depending
[50:00] Speaker 7: on the client. And the funny thing is those I
[50:02] Speaker 7: got from Microcenter and I've never had a problem with them.
[50:06] Speaker 7: It was just the one that I had to back
[50:08] Speaker 7: up my computer at best Buy and the pn Y
[50:11] Speaker 7: they transfer onto my new computer. That's where I had
[50:14] Speaker 7: the problem with that.
[50:15] Speaker 2: PNY Well that could just be a fluke. I mean,
[50:18] Speaker 2: you know these things they make millions of them.
[50:20] Speaker 1: It could just be that you got a bad one,
[50:22] Speaker 1: or you know, maybe it got jostled around. There's some
[50:24] Speaker 1: sort of damage that that occurred there. But the bottom
[50:27] Speaker 1: line is, you know, we're talking about a fifty dollars
[50:29] Speaker 1: or less fix right to.
[50:31] Speaker 2: Have peace of mind.
[50:32] Speaker 1: And so I think that that's probably what I would do,
[50:36] Speaker 1: and I think I maybe go with you know, there's
[50:39] Speaker 1: if you're going to be moving this flash drive around
[50:41] Speaker 1: a lot, and most flash drives are kind of by
[50:44] Speaker 1: the nature of a flash drive, there's small and portable,
[50:46] Speaker 1: and people bring them around with them. I used to
[50:48] Speaker 1: keep on on my keychain. You know, I keep one
[50:51] Speaker 1: in my bag right here.
[50:52] Speaker 2: Let's see, let's see see what brand I have on
[50:54] Speaker 2: mind that I keep jostling around in my bag.
[50:58] Speaker 1: Oh, I guess I took it off my keychain. Well,
[51:00] Speaker 1: I'm glad I don't have one anymore. But I do
[51:02] Speaker 1: have hard drive. I've got a one one terabyte sand
[51:05] Speaker 1: disc hard drive that I carry around.
[51:07] Speaker 2: So I've got that.
[51:08] Speaker 1: But you know the reality is, I think, Adam, I
[51:11] Speaker 1: would just get a new drive. I would go with
[51:13] Speaker 1: a you know, like a sand disc. How much storage
[51:16] Speaker 1: do you need on this thing like a terabyte or less,
[51:19] Speaker 1: no much less, okay. So I mean if you're talking,
[51:22] Speaker 1: you know, one hundred and twenty eight two fifty six gigs,
[51:25] Speaker 1: you we're talking thirty to forty dollars. So I would
[51:28] Speaker 1: just for the peace of mind, I would just get
[51:30] Speaker 1: a new one and you know, wipe that old one
[51:33] Speaker 1: and just get rid of it. But that's what I
[51:36] Speaker 1: would do. Or you know, if you have these files
[51:38] Speaker 1: safe and sound somewhere and you know you want to
[51:41] Speaker 1: take a little bit of a gamble on the drive,
[51:43] Speaker 1: you can just continue to leave them on the drive.
[51:45] Speaker 1: But if you're using this drive day in, day out
[51:47] Speaker 1: for anything, I would definitely get a new one because
[51:50] Speaker 1: you just don't want to take a risk with these things.
[51:52] Speaker 1: And when these flash drives fail, you know, they fail
[51:55] Speaker 1: usually to a larger degree than some of the standard
[51:58] Speaker 1: hard drives that were used to you might be able
[52:00] Speaker 1: to recover some of the data. So once these things go,
[52:03] Speaker 1: could put that's pretty much it. So I would just
[52:06] Speaker 1: go on and go on Amazon or go to your
[52:08] Speaker 1: local store and just grab something new. And micro Center
[52:11] Speaker 1: you mentioned love that place, great great place. I was
[52:14] Speaker 1: in there for a story the other day and just
[52:17] Speaker 1: spent so much time in there because it was so cool.
[52:20] Speaker 1: Thanks for the call today, Adam, appreciate it. But yeah,
[52:22] Speaker 1: get a new drive. That's what I would do.
[52:26] Speaker 2: By the way.
[52:27] Speaker 1: So, since there are some of you listening for the
[52:30] Speaker 1: first time, and you may not know exactly who I am,
[52:33] Speaker 1: I have been reporting on technology for about gosh, fifteen
[52:39] Speaker 1: plus years, most of it in Los Angeles. I actually
[52:42] Speaker 1: used to work in New York City at CNET for
[52:44] Speaker 1: a bit, came out to Los Angeles and on the
[52:47] Speaker 1: local news there, and I do tech reports for the
[52:51] Speaker 1: City of Los Angeles, you know, for the news station
[52:53] Speaker 1: I work for. So if you want to see some
[52:55] Speaker 1: of those, you can go to the website rich on
[52:57] Speaker 1: Tech dot TV. Cover all kinds of fun stuff and
[53:01] Speaker 1: it's great. So and I'm here as well. All right,
[53:03] Speaker 1: coming up, we're gonna talk to Joanna Stern, a fixture
[53:07] Speaker 1: in the Wall Street Journal. She's gonna talk about AI
[53:10] Speaker 1: and some of her favorite gadgets coming up right here
[53:12] Speaker 1: on rich on Tech. Welcome back to rich on Tech.
[53:15] Speaker 1: Rich DeMuro here hanging out with you talking technology at
[53:19] Speaker 1: Triple eight rich one oh one eight eight eight seven
[53:22] Speaker 1: four to two four one zero one did you know
[53:25] Speaker 1: that Google Maps turns twenty this year?
[53:28] Speaker 2: Wow?
[53:29] Speaker 1: Two decades of Google Maps now. By the way, I
[53:33] Speaker 1: know this our first day in New York City. When
[53:34] Speaker 1: I lived in New York City, well, I lived in
[53:36] Speaker 1: New Jersey, but I worked in New York for a
[53:38] Speaker 1: couple of years. There was no such thing as the
[53:41] Speaker 1: maps that we know and love now. So when I
[53:44] Speaker 1: was there, this is really dating myself. I had to
[53:47] Speaker 1: use something called like HopStop. I think you have to
[53:49] Speaker 1: print out maps when you want to go on the
[53:52] Speaker 1: subway to like figure out where you were going. Anyway,
[53:55] Speaker 1: Google did a whole blog about all the most reviewed restaurants.
[53:59] Speaker 1: Cats Delicatessen, Sherman's Deli, Barbecue, Terry Blacks in Austin, The
[54:05] Speaker 1: Salt Lick also in Austin. Most reviewed destinations Metropolitan Museum
[54:11] Speaker 1: of Art, The Getty, Philadelphia Museum of Art, National Parks,
[54:15] Speaker 1: Grand Canyon, Yellowstone Zoos, San Diego Zoo, Smithsonian, and the
[54:21] Speaker 1: Bronx Zoo. World's largest attractions Superman Statue. Oh, I gotta
[54:25] Speaker 1: find out that one ball of twine that reminds me
[54:27] Speaker 1: of that movie Rocking Chair. Most photographed parks, Central Park,
[54:32] Speaker 1: Niagara Falls, Griffith Park and visitor attractions, Rockefeller Center, Statue
[54:37] Speaker 1: of Liberty, Navy Peer. Again, a lot of these things
[54:40] Speaker 1: in New York. I didn't plan it that way. I
[54:42] Speaker 1: just this is what Google said. But it makes sense,
[54:44] Speaker 1: right because so many people go there anyway, Google Maps
[54:47] Speaker 1: twenty if you can believe it.
[54:48] Speaker 2: Let's bring on our guest. Joanna Stern is the.
[54:52] Speaker 1: Excellent personal tech columnist at The Wall Street Journal, and
[54:57] Speaker 1: I believe well I know lives in the New York area.
[55:00] Speaker 2: Joanna, Welcome to the show.
[55:02] Speaker 10: Hey, how are you rich?
[55:04] Speaker 2: Good?
[55:04] Speaker 4: Now?
[55:04] Speaker 2: Were you born in New York, New Jersey or what?
[55:07] Speaker 12: I was born in New Jersey, lived in New York
[55:10] Speaker 12: for a long time, and now back in New Jersey.
[55:13] Speaker 2: So I love it. So how is my home state?
[55:17] Speaker 10: It's it's it. I would say it's doing great, but
[55:20] Speaker 10: it's cold. I think it's gonna be great. Tomorrow is
[55:23] Speaker 10: supposed to snow.
[55:24] Speaker 12: Okay, so yeah, we're gonna have some hopefully some weekend sledding.
[55:27] Speaker 12: But I can't say I'm not a little jealous.
[55:31] Speaker 10: Of where you live.
[55:32] Speaker 1: Well, it's been raining, so it's you know, But I
[55:34] Speaker 1: will tell you when I sled when I was sledding.
[55:37] Speaker 1: As a kid, we sled down this hill that literally
[55:40] Speaker 1: just like went right into a highway like this. Obviously,
[55:44] Speaker 1: like nowadays there's probably a fence and all that stuff,
[55:46] Speaker 1: but like when we were kids, it was just hey,
[55:47] Speaker 1: there's like less rules. So but we had I love
[55:49] Speaker 1: sledding when there was a snow day. All right, So
[55:52] Speaker 1: explain first off, what you do for the Wall Street
[55:55] Speaker 1: Journal if if people are not familiar, you write a
[55:57] Speaker 1: great column, but you do videos and stuff. So what's
[56:01] Speaker 1: your approach to technology?
[56:02] Speaker 2: Number one?
[56:03] Speaker 10: Yeah, that's about That's about right.
[56:06] Speaker 12: I write a column for the Wall Street Journal, but
[56:08] Speaker 12: I do not you know, my title is columnist, but
[56:10] Speaker 12: I would say I spend less time writing the column
[56:13] Speaker 12: and much more time out and about shooting videos and
[56:17] Speaker 12: doing some fun things on video.
[56:18] Speaker 10: But my approach is really the consumer first.
[56:21] Speaker 12: That I am out there testing and talking to the companies,
[56:26] Speaker 12: always advocating for the consumer, always thinking about do these
[56:30] Speaker 12: these tech products work well for us?
[56:32] Speaker 10: Which are the best to use?
[56:34] Speaker 12: Then often sometimes you know, investigating why things don't don't
[56:37] Speaker 12: work well. But that's where I enjoy this type of work.
[56:41] Speaker 12: It's just we're out there, we're using these things. And
[56:44] Speaker 12: the companies should give us more answers about the devices
[56:46] Speaker 12: and the products we're being given to use.
[56:49] Speaker 2: What about the hype of AI?
[56:51] Speaker 1: What do you make of AI at this point, because
[56:53] Speaker 1: now it's like, you know, everything is AI. I joke that,
[56:56] Speaker 1: you know, if you're coming, like it used to be
[56:58] Speaker 1: when you went to CES, the big consumer show, you know,
[57:00] Speaker 1: the big tech show in Las Vegas, I always joked
[57:03] Speaker 1: that they were in the process of adding Internet to everything,
[57:06] Speaker 1: including your coffee mug, which, by the way, this morning
[57:08] Speaker 1: I use an Ember mug, which does have, you know,
[57:10] Speaker 1: a connection to your phone. But now I joke that
[57:13] Speaker 1: everything has AI because it's just it has to. So
[57:17] Speaker 1: do you think there's too much hype on AI? And
[57:19] Speaker 1: do you think this is actually working for people?
[57:22] Speaker 12: I think there's a ton of hype, But I do
[57:24] Speaker 12: think it's one of the biggest moments we've experienced in
[57:27] Speaker 12: the tech industry in a long time. And you lived
[57:30] Speaker 12: through and we kind of covered it through it together.
[57:32] Speaker 12: The advent of mobile and how quickly the iPhone got better,
[57:36] Speaker 12: and how quickly Samsung and all these devices got better,
[57:38] Speaker 12: and how that changed the way we live.
[57:40] Speaker 10: I think that is absolutely where we're heading with AI.
[57:43] Speaker 12: I think, given what happened with mobile and everyone, you
[57:47] Speaker 12: just jumped on that, let's make an app. I mean
[57:49] Speaker 12: remember these days, the early days of apps, people are
[57:51] Speaker 12: making apps. You have a lighter on your phone. I
[57:54] Speaker 12: mean were there were all these.
[57:55] Speaker 10: Like yeah, nonsense whatever, nonsense type of things.
[57:59] Speaker 12: I mean, that's where we are with AI, and so
[58:01] Speaker 12: everyone's trying to get in, try to get a piece.
[58:04] Speaker 12: But I'm writing a book right now about the impact
[58:07] Speaker 12: of AI on my life for the for the next year,
[58:10] Speaker 12: starting in what was starting in January, I said, I'm
[58:13] Speaker 12: going to do as much of my life, as much
[58:15] Speaker 12: of the people and the products and the things I
[58:18] Speaker 12: do in life, I'm going to try to figure out
[58:20] Speaker 12: where AI can replace or augment or help.
[58:23] Speaker 2: Wait, what does that mean? Hold on, explain that.
[58:25] Speaker 10: I know.
[58:25] Speaker 1: Wait, like when you're going to dinner, deciding between two restaurants,
[58:28] Speaker 1: you just ask AI or what sure?
[58:31] Speaker 10: I'm doing stuff like that.
[58:32] Speaker 12: But I really think the deeper stuff is going to
[58:34] Speaker 12: come in the places where we interact with humans and
[58:37] Speaker 12: where we start to realize, wow, those humans are either
[58:39] Speaker 12: going to be replaced by AI or really working deeply
[58:43] Speaker 12: with AI. And one of the examples that this is
[58:45] Speaker 12: my first month on the book has been all about healthcare,
[58:48] Speaker 12: all about doctors and the way they're using AI. I'm
[58:51] Speaker 12: doing some really interesting stuff or I've seen a lot
[58:54] Speaker 12: of really interesting stuff on that.
[58:55] Speaker 1: You know.
[58:55] Speaker 12: I think there's a day that's going to come as
[58:57] Speaker 12: we're all going to go to the doctor and we're
[58:58] Speaker 12: going to realize, Okay, I'm really seeing a human, but
[59:01] Speaker 12: I'm also seeing some sort of robot or some sort
[59:03] Speaker 12: of bot here. And so I'm exploring all those types
[59:06] Speaker 12: of ways that A is going to infiltrate our lives.
[59:09] Speaker 12: That isn't just sitting in front of a computer and
[59:11] Speaker 12: talking to a chatbot.
[59:12] Speaker 2: I mean it's yeah, well that's the other thing.
[59:13] Speaker 1: It's like already starting with the chatbots where they're screening
[59:16] Speaker 1: you right, like if you need customer service for something,
[59:19] Speaker 1: it's like, well here, they push you to the chatbot
[59:21] Speaker 1: first that's AI obviously now, and then maybe it'll flick
[59:25] Speaker 1: you to an actual person later on down the road.
[59:28] Speaker 1: And I feel like with medicine that's going to happen too.
[59:30] Speaker 1: It's like they screen you like here, put on all
[59:32] Speaker 1: your stuff, like your symptoms whatever, and now the doctor
[59:35] Speaker 1: comes in with like a little bit of knowledge and
[59:37] Speaker 1: baseline understanding of what's going on before they talk to
[59:40] Speaker 1: you for twenty minutes.
[59:42] Speaker 10: Yeah, I mean, and.
[59:42] Speaker 12: I'm like, part of this is, of course I'm seeing
[59:44] Speaker 12: human doctors this here, but every time I go to
[59:46] Speaker 12: the doctor, I get test results, I'm running those through AI.
[59:49] Speaker 12: Some of those those doctors are already doing that. They're
[59:53] Speaker 12: using it at radiology, they're using in these places.
[59:55] Speaker 10: So I'm going all in. I'm using it in that way.
[59:57] Speaker 12: I'm going to be doing transportation of course, self drive
[1:00:00] Speaker 12: in cars, all of that education. I'm just kind of
[1:00:02] Speaker 12: going all in for a year to see where we're at.
[1:00:05] Speaker 1: And you had a chance to check out the Weaimos
[1:00:08] Speaker 1: self driving car, right, weren't you in La recently?
[1:00:11] Speaker 2: I was you tried that? Did you try the Weaimo
[1:00:15] Speaker 2: while you're out here?
[1:00:16] Speaker 10: I did? I did.
[1:00:17] Speaker 12: I spend quite a bit of time in Weimo's and
[1:00:19] Speaker 12: I'm going out to Phoenix soon to spend even more
[1:00:21] Speaker 12: time in them.
[1:00:23] Speaker 10: I mean, I should ask you, what do you think
[1:00:25] Speaker 10: you live around them?
[1:00:26] Speaker 2: Well?
[1:00:26] Speaker 1: I live around them, but yeah, so it's interesting they
[1:00:29] Speaker 1: don't necessarily work in my neighborhood, yet they work where
[1:00:32] Speaker 1: I work, and so I have taken one, but I
[1:00:34] Speaker 1: did take it in San Francisco, and the other day
[1:00:37] Speaker 1: I had the opportunity to take one, and I was
[1:00:39] Speaker 1: a little bit scared.
[1:00:39] Speaker 2: I was like, I don't know if I actually want to.
[1:00:41] Speaker 2: I think I'm just gonna drive myself. I don't know.
[1:00:43] Speaker 1: I mean, I but I have my car drive itself
[1:00:46] Speaker 1: a lot. So it's it's this weird thing of it's
[1:00:50] Speaker 1: all software and I feel like it should be better,
[1:00:53] Speaker 1: but I'm not sure.
[1:00:56] Speaker 10: So I'm with you.
[1:00:57] Speaker 12: I think there's a lot of spectrum on this. Right,
[1:01:00] Speaker 12: there's the cars that drive yourself that you have either,
[1:01:03] Speaker 12: I don't know if you have a Tesla.
[1:01:04] Speaker 10: Yeah, yeah, So look, you have.
[1:01:06] Speaker 12: A good chunk of self driving car software and there
[1:01:09] Speaker 12: autonomous software, and that is probably going to work in
[1:01:11] Speaker 12: some really good situations.
[1:01:13] Speaker 10: And of course we could get deep into that. But
[1:01:15] Speaker 10: then on the Waimo.
[1:01:16] Speaker 12: Side, I think it is it is really fascinating and
[1:01:19] Speaker 12: it really I've been telling everyone if you have the
[1:01:22] Speaker 12: opportunity to get in one of these, you.
[1:01:24] Speaker 10: Should do it.
[1:01:25] Speaker 12: It does feel so incredibly safe, especially in these cities
[1:01:29] Speaker 12: where these cars have been trained and have done the
[1:01:33] Speaker 12: same roots over and over and over again. I mean,
[1:01:37] Speaker 12: I truly feel like this was the most safe driver
[1:01:40] Speaker 12: I've ever been with. I did say and I pieced
[1:01:42] Speaker 12: there that it felt at times like it was like
[1:01:44] Speaker 12: my mom, it got a little nervous. But I think
[1:01:46] Speaker 12: it's in a good way in the sense of like, Okay,
[1:01:50] Speaker 12: it is cautious. It is always cautious in the intersections
[1:01:53] Speaker 12: that will make you feel nervous, but then once you
[1:01:55] Speaker 12: do it enough times, you're like, oh, yeah, this is
[1:01:56] Speaker 12: just how it approaches an intersection.
[1:01:58] Speaker 10: It wants to be incredibly safe.
[1:02:00] Speaker 12: But why I asked you is I think that some
[1:02:01] Speaker 12: of the funnier stories are about people who are living
[1:02:03] Speaker 12: in these spaces and just like.
[1:02:05] Speaker 10: Observing their odd behavior.
[1:02:07] Speaker 12: I also heard a story in LA And I was
[1:02:09] Speaker 12: in Davas a few weeks ago, and I was talking
[1:02:13] Speaker 12: to the company Serve, the Serve robotics that have the
[1:02:16] Speaker 12: little robots.
[1:02:17] Speaker 10: You've you've seen those around.
[1:02:18] Speaker 2: Your yeah, your area, of course, the delivery robots.
[1:02:21] Speaker 12: And I was asking him about this viral video of
[1:02:24] Speaker 12: the way moo that hit the serve robot.
[1:02:27] Speaker 10: Did you see that?
[1:02:28] Speaker 2: I did not see that, But that's funny too.
[1:02:30] Speaker 12: Hilarious because you're like, this is the future. The robots
[1:02:33] Speaker 12: just colliding in the streets.
[1:02:35] Speaker 2: That's amazing.
[1:02:38] Speaker 10: But yeah, I mean he.
[1:02:38] Speaker 12: Had a good explanation of why it probably happened, but yeah,
[1:02:42] Speaker 12: you're living in the future there.
[1:02:43] Speaker 1: In LA I'm amazed every time I see one of
[1:02:45] Speaker 1: those delivery robots that it's actually just working, and people
[1:02:49] Speaker 1: most of the time respect it. I mean, I know
[1:02:51] Speaker 1: they've been roughed up sometimes, but I mean it's just
[1:02:54] Speaker 1: it's like kind of sad.
[1:02:55] Speaker 2: It's like, this is just a little robot. Okay, so
[1:02:57] Speaker 2: I do to New.
[1:02:58] Speaker 12: York and New York here, and we're not going to
[1:03:00] Speaker 12: New York here because this is your your opening show.
[1:03:02] Speaker 12: But you know, we've still got regular grocery carts and
[1:03:06] Speaker 12: we're still yeah, we're.
[1:03:08] Speaker 10: Like nineteen ninety five. I would say, we're not so
[1:03:11] Speaker 10: far behind.
[1:03:12] Speaker 1: I'm wondering when, Yeah, like the self driving, if it
[1:03:15] Speaker 1: makes it to New York City, then we know it's
[1:03:16] Speaker 1: it's taken a it's reached a tipping point.
[1:03:18] Speaker 2: All right.
[1:03:19] Speaker 1: Before we run out of time here, I do need
[1:03:21] Speaker 1: to ask you some some Jersey and New York questions. So,
[1:03:24] Speaker 1: first off, ever pumped your own gas?
[1:03:27] Speaker 10: I live. I live in New Jersey. Of course I
[1:03:31] Speaker 10: grew up.
[1:03:31] Speaker 12: I go to other states thinking I need to pump
[1:03:34] Speaker 12: my own gas.
[1:03:36] Speaker 1: Well, you do pump in other states and New Jersey
[1:03:38] Speaker 1: you can't write, isn't it still illegal?
[1:03:41] Speaker 4: Oh?
[1:03:41] Speaker 10: Sorry, so you're asking.
[1:03:43] Speaker 4: Yes.
[1:03:43] Speaker 1: Sorry, I was like, wait a second, are you just
[1:03:46] Speaker 1: breaking the rules here every day?
[1:03:47] Speaker 10: I'm sorry, I've got it opposite there.
[1:03:49] Speaker 12: Okay, yes, have pumped my own gas, but only learned
[1:03:52] Speaker 12: when I went to college and went to other states.
[1:03:54] Speaker 2: Okay, that makes more sense.
[1:03:56] Speaker 1: Okay, that makes much more sense, because yeah, like I
[1:03:59] Speaker 1: I jump out of my car when I get to
[1:04:00] Speaker 1: Jersey and I'm like, oh, hey, I can't do this,
[1:04:02] Speaker 1: but I love it. When it's freezing cold, you have
[1:04:04] Speaker 1: to you open your like window a tiny little slit
[1:04:07] Speaker 1: and like slip your credit card through it, and it's
[1:04:08] Speaker 1: like here, fill it up.
[1:04:10] Speaker 2: Sorry okay.
[1:04:12] Speaker 12: And I'm also thinking that when I go to other states,
[1:04:14] Speaker 12: same situation. I'll sometimes sit there now.
[1:04:18] Speaker 1: Waiting for someone to come to you, and it's just
[1:04:20] Speaker 1: like nope, not happening, right.
[1:04:22] Speaker 12: But also I guess it's similar to you drive an
[1:04:24] Speaker 12: ev now and don't spend that much time at gas stations.
[1:04:27] Speaker 2: Yes, Times Square magical or a tourist trap.
[1:04:35] Speaker 10: Somewhere in between.
[1:04:36] Speaker 12: I still like to walk through Times Square every couple
[1:04:39] Speaker 12: of months to see some things that have changed. I live,
[1:04:41] Speaker 12: I work right in Times Square, so I have to
[1:04:43] Speaker 12: kind of trudge through it if I sometimes need to
[1:04:45] Speaker 12: get to the train station. But you know, it changes
[1:04:48] Speaker 12: every so often, and when of the changes are made,
[1:04:50] Speaker 12: it's fun to see them.
[1:04:51] Speaker 2: And have you ever been to the top of the
[1:04:53] Speaker 2: Empire State Building or is that just for tourists?
[1:04:56] Speaker 7: You know what?
[1:04:56] Speaker 10: I never have been to the top of the Empire
[1:04:58] Speaker 10: State Building.
[1:04:59] Speaker 12: I always wanted to because I grew up listening to
[1:05:02] Speaker 12: Z one hundred and.
[1:05:02] Speaker 2: I was yester. Yes, but like they.
[1:05:06] Speaker 10: Went I remember, I think it was like fourth grade,
[1:05:08] Speaker 10: like my school trip. They went on one and I
[1:05:10] Speaker 10: was sick that day.
[1:05:11] Speaker 12: They went to the top of the Empire Statement and
[1:05:12] Speaker 12: I've never done it, so I guess I should take
[1:05:14] Speaker 12: my kids.
[1:05:14] Speaker 1: Okay, quick story, I'm out of time. But so when
[1:05:16] Speaker 1: I was young, of course you one hundred from the
[1:05:18] Speaker 1: top of the Empire State Building. I finally make my
[1:05:22] Speaker 1: way up as a high schooler and I'm like, where's
[1:05:24] Speaker 1: this Z one hundred studio. They're like, kid, you got
[1:05:27] Speaker 1: to listen closely. They said broadcasting, not the studio. So
[1:05:32] Speaker 1: that's right. I that was like, oh my gosh, life lesson,
[1:05:35] Speaker 1: Joanna Stern, this has been so much fun.
[1:05:37] Speaker 2: Good luck with the book. What's it called?
[1:05:40] Speaker 12: The working title is chat but like but with two
[1:05:43] Speaker 12: t's at the at the end. So if listeners like that,
[1:05:46] Speaker 12: tell me let me know, hit me up on social
[1:05:48] Speaker 12: let me know.
[1:05:48] Speaker 10: If I should keep that or should keep thinking of
[1:05:50] Speaker 10: a new one.
[1:05:50] Speaker 2: All right, Joanna Stern, Wall Street Journal, thanks so much
[1:05:52] Speaker 2: for joining me today. Appreciate it.
[1:05:55] Speaker 1: Eight eight eight rich one oh one eight eight eight
[1:05:58] Speaker 1: seven four to two four one zero one. Welcome back
[1:06:00] Speaker 1: to rich on Tech. Rich Demiro here hanging out with you,
[1:06:03] Speaker 1: talking technology eight eight eight rich one O one eight
[1:06:07] Speaker 1: eight eight seven four two four one zero one. Find
[1:06:11] Speaker 1: me on social media. I am at rich on Tech
[1:06:13] Speaker 1: on Instagram. You could also go to the website rich
[1:06:17] Speaker 1: on Tech dot TV. Hit contact if you want to
[1:06:19] Speaker 1: get in touch. Let's go to Ron in Palm Springs. Ron,
[1:06:24] Speaker 1: welcome to the show.
[1:06:26] Speaker 6: Hi, good after me a long time listener. First time I'm.
[1:06:29] Speaker 2: Calling you, but uh well, thank you?
[1:06:33] Speaker 6: Using I was using Yeah, I've been using Microsoft Word.
[1:06:37] Speaker 4: We're writing. Writing a letter.
[1:06:39] Speaker 6: Yesterday was fine. I opened up my computer this morning
[1:06:42] Speaker 6: and now the spelling checker is in Spanish. How do
[1:06:45] Speaker 6: I get it back to English?
[1:06:46] Speaker 2: Were you writing in Spanish or English?
[1:06:49] Speaker 12: No?
[1:06:50] Speaker 6: English? And it asked it starting to say all my
[1:06:52] Speaker 6: words in the first sentence where we're incorrect. They gave
[1:06:55] Speaker 6: me some Hispanic alternatives. So then I wrote burrito and
[1:07:00] Speaker 6: it was correct. So figure I'm in Spanish spelling checker.
[1:07:03] Speaker 1: Oh okay, interesting, is burrito a Spanish? I guess it
[1:07:06] Speaker 1: is a Spanish word.
[1:07:07] Speaker 6: It didn't say it was wrong.
[1:07:11] Speaker 2: Okay, So here's the deal.
[1:07:13] Speaker 1: I so I actually went on my Windows computer to
[1:07:16] Speaker 1: try to see how to set the language and my
[1:07:19] Speaker 1: version of Office is expired, which I'm embarrassed to say,
[1:07:23] Speaker 1: but I think that's pretty common with a lot of people.
[1:07:25] Speaker 1: It's like, oh wait a second, but I'm looking here,
[1:07:28] Speaker 1: and have you tried going to set the language preferences
[1:07:32] Speaker 1: in the options?
[1:07:33] Speaker 2: Have you done that?
[1:07:34] Speaker 6: I haven't found that.
[1:07:35] Speaker 2: Okay.
[1:07:36] Speaker 6: I just got home.
[1:07:36] Speaker 1: So okay, now is this a new version or an
[1:07:41] Speaker 1: old version of Office?
[1:07:44] Speaker 6: It's the new three sixty five co pilot version.
[1:07:48] Speaker 1: Okay, so it looks like you can go into file
[1:07:52] Speaker 1: options and language and this will set the authoring, proofing
[1:07:57] Speaker 1: and display language. So file options language and that may
[1:08:03] Speaker 1: be set to Spanish, so you might want to just
[1:08:05] Speaker 1: make sure that's set to English and hopefully that should
[1:08:09] Speaker 1: fix it. The other thing you could do if that's
[1:08:11] Speaker 1: not working is I would you know, close it out,
[1:08:13] Speaker 1: reopen it, restart it and see if that you know,
[1:08:16] Speaker 1: and then go into the settings and make sure that
[1:08:18] Speaker 1: that's set. It's odd that it would just switch by
[1:08:20] Speaker 1: itself without exactly yeah, without but that, but that's the best.
[1:08:25] Speaker 1: You know, when tech does that, that's the best is
[1:08:27] Speaker 1: that you know, it just does things that we don't
[1:08:29] Speaker 1: understand why it does it. So try that. Yeah, and
[1:08:36] Speaker 1: do you see what what is it saying? Does it
[1:08:38] Speaker 1: say it's English?
[1:08:39] Speaker 6: Prefer English? It says preferred English proofing initiated? Okay, the
[1:08:45] Speaker 6: United States General preferred.
[1:08:47] Speaker 2: Okay, there you go.
[1:08:49] Speaker 1: So hopefully now when you write okay, when you when
[1:08:54] Speaker 1: you write click a word like when it gets a
[1:08:56] Speaker 1: little squigglies underneath, is it giving you suggestions in Spanish?
[1:08:59] Speaker 6: Arning, Yes, it's giving me Okay, now that I've done this,
[1:09:03] Speaker 6: I'm going to go back to.
[1:09:08] Speaker 1: So here's the other thing. So okay, so if you're
[1:09:12] Speaker 1: I mean every all the yeah, I mean all of
[1:09:15] Speaker 1: the options that I'm seeing are all under this uh
[1:09:18] Speaker 1: file options language. So the only thing I would say
[1:09:21] Speaker 1: is that perhaps you have you might have a global
[1:09:24] Speaker 1: option on your you know Windows PC that's uh this,
[1:09:27] Speaker 1: you know a similar option. So in that case, I
[1:09:30] Speaker 1: would go into your settings and search for language and
[1:09:33] Speaker 1: make sure that that's set to English, and are using
[1:09:36] Speaker 1: this through a web browser or through your or through an.
[1:09:39] Speaker 6: Appu through on a web on a web browser. It's
[1:09:45] Speaker 6: one of my one of the apps that I have
[1:09:47] Speaker 6: on my I came with the computer and it just
[1:09:49] Speaker 6: switched me to co pilot two days ago. So maybe
[1:09:54] Speaker 6: it's something new. But my options are propeller, propel and
[1:09:57] Speaker 6: propeller for property.
[1:10:00] Speaker 2: Oh my gosh.
[1:10:00] Speaker 1: Okay, well yeah, this is quite the quite the situation here, okay.
[1:10:06] Speaker 1: And even if you so, have you tried restarting and
[1:10:09] Speaker 1: then setting English as your language.
[1:10:11] Speaker 6: It happened last night and I said forget, I'm going
[1:10:14] Speaker 6: back to it this morning. It's still there.
[1:10:16] Speaker 4: Wow.
[1:10:17] Speaker 2: Okay, that's interesting.
[1:10:18] Speaker 1: The only other thing I would check is in your
[1:10:20] Speaker 1: web browser there's there's a section called preferred languages. So
[1:10:25] Speaker 1: if you go into your settings on your web browser
[1:10:28] Speaker 1: settings and then search language, you should see the preferred
[1:10:31] Speaker 1: languages there and that should be English. But my greater
[1:10:34] Speaker 1: advice ron without being in front of the computer, is
[1:10:39] Speaker 1: all like I would start at the local level and
[1:10:41] Speaker 1: keep working up and make sure, uh to go into
[1:10:44] Speaker 1: settings and just search for language and make sure everything's
[1:10:47] Speaker 1: set to English if that's what you want to use,
[1:10:50] Speaker 1: and again set it start at the browser, then you
[1:10:53] Speaker 1: can go up to you know, word or actually I
[1:10:55] Speaker 1: would start at word and then go to the browser
[1:10:57] Speaker 1: and then go up to the computer at large and
[1:11:00] Speaker 1: just search language and make sure they're all set to English.
[1:11:03] Speaker 1: That's an interesting one.
[1:11:05] Speaker 2: Wow.
[1:11:07] Speaker 1: Eighty eight rich one O one eight eight eight seven
[1:11:10] Speaker 1: four to two four one zero one. Uh coming up
[1:11:12] Speaker 1: if your word is expired. I've got the Office Suite
[1:11:15] Speaker 1: that's free. It's the alternative that you can download for free.
[1:11:19] Speaker 1: This is rich on Tech. Welcome back to rich on Tech.
[1:11:23] Speaker 1: Rich Demiro here hanging out with you talking technology at
[1:11:26] Speaker 1: eight eight eight rich one O one eight eight eight
[1:11:29] Speaker 1: seven four to two four one zero one. Website for
[1:11:33] Speaker 1: the show rich on Tech dot TV Jonas brothers from
[1:11:38] Speaker 1: New Jersey who who knew? I didn't until I was
[1:11:43] Speaker 1: coming up with today's playlist and uh picking some you know,
[1:11:47] Speaker 1: we didn't have any Connecticut. This is the Tri State area,
[1:11:50] Speaker 1: so probably should have had something Connecticut in there.
[1:11:53] Speaker 2: A couple of.
[1:11:53] Speaker 1: Headlines before we get to the phones. Rick, I see
[1:11:56] Speaker 1: you there. We'll get to you in just a moment.
[1:11:58] Speaker 5: Uh.
[1:11:58] Speaker 2: Libra Office. Libra Office.
[1:12:01] Speaker 1: This is a privacy focused alternative to sort of the
[1:12:06] Speaker 1: big you know, like the Microsoft Words of the world,
[1:12:09] Speaker 1: the Google docs of the world. So if you want
[1:12:11] Speaker 1: something that you can download that is completely free, they
[1:12:15] Speaker 1: have a brand new version of this Libra l I
[1:12:19] Speaker 1: b R Librale looks yeah, Libra, why can't I pronounce
[1:12:26] Speaker 1: this word anyway? Office twenty five point two now available
[1:12:31] Speaker 1: for Windows, mac Os, and Linux. It's got more polished UI,
[1:12:35] Speaker 1: better accessibility, and also works better with Microsoft documents. So
[1:12:40] Speaker 1: this is privacy focused. It's got an option, a new
[1:12:42] Speaker 1: option to remove all personal data from documents like time
[1:12:46] Speaker 1: stamps and author info. It's got a whole bunch It's
[1:12:50] Speaker 1: just a whole bunch of new stuff. So one thing
[1:12:52] Speaker 1: you do need to know. Support for Windows seven and
[1:12:55] Speaker 1: eight of this program is ending, so you got to
[1:12:59] Speaker 1: upgrade before version twenty five point eight, so that's coming soon.
[1:13:04] Speaker 2: I guess.
[1:13:05] Speaker 6: Uh.
[1:13:05] Speaker 1: But Libraoffice remains free and open source, and it supports
[1:13:10] Speaker 1: the uh ODF files and the Microsoft formats. And I
[1:13:15] Speaker 1: downloaded this yesterday just to kind of try it out
[1:13:19] Speaker 1: before I talked about it, and it's great. I mean,
[1:13:21] Speaker 1: it just looks like Microsoft Word and Excel in the
[1:13:24] Speaker 1: spreadsheet program, So I mean, why not. I personally use
[1:13:28] Speaker 1: Google Docs, But I understand if you're, you know, more
[1:13:31] Speaker 1: privacy centric, or you don't like big tech or something
[1:13:34] Speaker 1: like that, and you want to use something that's a
[1:13:35] Speaker 1: little bit more open source, then I would check this out.
[1:13:39] Speaker 1: The website is uh libra l I b R eoffice
[1:13:44] Speaker 1: dot org slash download and I will put that on
[1:13:48] Speaker 1: the website rich on tech dot TV. Meanwhile, if you
[1:13:52] Speaker 1: had an iPhone seven with the loop disease, you are
[1:13:57] Speaker 1: you might have gotten a payout. So I guess Apple
[1:13:59] Speaker 1: pay out thirty five million dollars in a class action
[1:14:02] Speaker 1: settlement related to this loop disease. I guess the software
[1:14:07] Speaker 1: was making it. Boot Loop payments are around two hundred dollars,
[1:14:12] Speaker 1: so if you got like an email that said, hey,
[1:14:14] Speaker 1: claim your two hundred bucks or your payouts coming, like, yes,
[1:14:16] Speaker 1: you should do it, but you know, obviously you should
[1:14:19] Speaker 1: confirm that it's legitimate because you know, whenever something like
[1:14:23] Speaker 1: this happens, these other people they scam artists. They will
[1:14:26] Speaker 1: look at that and say, ooh, let's try to figure
[1:14:28] Speaker 1: out how we can scam people. So no matter what,
[1:14:31] Speaker 1: let me see if I can find something on this
[1:14:35] Speaker 1: iPhone loop disease. So it was oh sorry, it was
[1:14:40] Speaker 1: degraded audio and call quality and listening to music caused
[1:14:44] Speaker 1: by users applying pressure on a certain part of the phone.
[1:14:47] Speaker 1: I do not remember this when this happened, but that's interesting.
[1:14:51] Speaker 1: I was a while ago iPhone seven. That was a
[1:14:55] Speaker 1: real long time ago. Anyway, if you but here's the deal,
[1:14:58] Speaker 1: this this is over. So you had to make that
[1:15:00] Speaker 1: claim a long time ago. But up to three hundred
[1:15:03] Speaker 1: and forty nine dollars, that's pretty good.
[1:15:05] Speaker 2: All right, let's go to uh rick in uh Let's
[1:15:09] Speaker 2: see west Hill's Rick. You're on with Rich.
[1:15:14] Speaker 11: Hey, Rich, thank you for taking my call. So I'll
[1:15:16] Speaker 11: try to be quick. I just want to know if
[1:15:18] Speaker 11: I should purchase more Apple storage or buy an app
[1:15:22] Speaker 11: to help clean up my photos or back up to
[1:15:25] Speaker 11: my computer. And then the second part of the question
[1:15:28] Speaker 11: is if I do back up to the computer, I
[1:15:30] Speaker 11: don't know how that works because it keeps adding the
[1:15:32] Speaker 11: same pictures over and over again, does it? Anyway, those
[1:15:35] Speaker 11: are that's the question.
[1:15:36] Speaker 1: Okay, So first the first question is should you tell
[1:15:42] Speaker 1: me them again?
[1:15:42] Speaker 11: Oh, purchase more Apple storage. I purchased the fifty gig plans,
[1:15:47] Speaker 11: but I've already used one hundred gigabytes, so I'm not
[1:15:50] Speaker 11: obviously my phone is not backing up now.
[1:15:52] Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, So man, I so the thing about Apple
[1:15:56] Speaker 1: storage is so I'm on the I think I'm on
[1:15:59] Speaker 1: the five terabyte plan on Google. So I use Google Storage. Yeah,
[1:16:04] Speaker 1: I've got three I've got like three terabytes of photos.
[1:16:06] Speaker 1: So but you know, it's all my videos and stuff
[1:16:08] Speaker 1: from work. So it's like, I, you know, I'd rather
[1:16:10] Speaker 1: keep it than get rid of it. But the thing is,
[1:16:13] Speaker 1: so I would you could do two things. You could
[1:16:16] Speaker 1: either try to pare down the hundred gigs or you
[1:16:18] Speaker 1: said you have one hundred gigs on your phone, but
[1:16:20] Speaker 1: you have fifty available to you.
[1:16:22] Speaker 11: Yeah, so I bought the two night I think it's
[1:16:24] Speaker 11: the two ninety nine plan, So it's like fifty gigabytes
[1:16:27] Speaker 11: and do you.
[1:16:27] Speaker 2: Know how much of that? Do you know how much
[1:16:29] Speaker 2: of that is photos?
[1:16:30] Speaker 4: Yeah?
[1:16:30] Speaker 11: Photos is twenty eight.
[1:16:31] Speaker 1: Okay, so photos, So you're still like, even with that
[1:16:34] Speaker 1: twenty eight, that's a lot. I mean, you've got that's
[1:16:36] Speaker 1: a lot of you know, a lot of photos.
[1:16:38] Speaker 11: So iPhone and iPhone and iPhone, so they add.
[1:16:42] Speaker 2: Up, right. So there's a couple of things you could do.
[1:16:43] Speaker 2: You could.
[1:16:45] Speaker 1: You could try to pare down the twenty eight gigs
[1:16:48] Speaker 1: to get under the fifty with your backup of your phone,
[1:16:51] Speaker 1: but that's going to be really tough because you're going
[1:16:53] Speaker 1: to be spending a lot of time and it's just
[1:16:55] Speaker 1: going to be like, you know, you're just gonna be
[1:16:57] Speaker 1: pulling your hair out. The other thing you could do
[1:16:59] Speaker 1: is you could just not if money is not a problem, Like,
[1:17:02] Speaker 1: if you're not how much is the step up to
[1:17:05] Speaker 1: the next sire?
[1:17:06] Speaker 11: I'll shoot, I knew I should have wrote that down.
[1:17:07] Speaker 11: It probably like three ninety nine a month or something
[1:17:10] Speaker 11: like that or something.
[1:17:11] Speaker 4: It's that bad.
[1:17:12] Speaker 1: Yeah, So if that feels fair to you, then that's
[1:17:14] Speaker 1: probably the easiest solution. But what I would do in
[1:17:17] Speaker 1: once you upgrade to that is, I would pare down
[1:17:20] Speaker 1: your camera roll, get get some of the big videos
[1:17:22] Speaker 1: out of there that you don't need, or duplicate pictures
[1:17:24] Speaker 1: and all that kind of stuff. So that's the second
[1:17:26] Speaker 1: thing I would do. As for offloading to your computer,
[1:17:30] Speaker 1: that's my least favorite option because it's the most labor intensive. Yes,
[1:17:35] Speaker 1: your computer can figure out which like when you plug
[1:17:38] Speaker 1: your phone into your computer, let's say of a Windows computer,
[1:17:41] Speaker 1: it can it can import just the new pictures or
[1:17:43] Speaker 1: on a Mac it'll do this. It'll it'll figure out
[1:17:45] Speaker 1: which ones it hasn't imported, so it can do that.
[1:17:48] Speaker 1: But now you have to make sure that those pictures
[1:17:51] Speaker 1: are backed up somehow on your computer.
[1:17:53] Speaker 2: Right now.
[1:17:55] Speaker 1: There is an argument there that you can say, well, rich,
[1:17:57] Speaker 1: I've got my photo, I've got one copy on my phone,
[1:18:00] Speaker 1: and now I've got one copy on my computer, so
[1:18:02] Speaker 1: I'm good. And typically we would say you'd want one
[1:18:05] Speaker 1: copy on your computer, one copy on your phone, and
[1:18:08] Speaker 1: one copy in the cloud somewhere right just to make
[1:18:11] Speaker 1: sure you've got you know, everything covered. So those are
[1:18:15] Speaker 1: kind of your options. What are you leaning towards? What
[1:18:17] Speaker 1: do you feel like you want to do.
[1:18:19] Speaker 11: I'm leaning just buying that seems like the cheapest option.
[1:18:21] Speaker 11: But I don't know if the wife would like that.
[1:18:23] Speaker 11: She just she hates to spend money on things like that.
[1:18:25] Speaker 2: Yeah, oh that's and so it's a I totally get that.
[1:18:28] Speaker 1: And of course that's what Apple wants you to do, right,
[1:18:30] Speaker 1: I mean, that's why they that's why Apple does not
[1:18:32] Speaker 1: make it easy. Like if you told me, like if
[1:18:35] Speaker 1: you said, Rich, how do I find all the biggest
[1:18:37] Speaker 1: video files on my phone?
[1:18:39] Speaker 2: Right now? They don't make it easy to do that.
[1:18:41] Speaker 1: Like you can't sort like on a Samsung device or
[1:18:43] Speaker 1: on a Google device, you could just go in and
[1:18:46] Speaker 1: literally sort my largest videos and just get rid of them,
[1:18:48] Speaker 1: right if you say, oh, I ran my camera for
[1:18:51] Speaker 1: twenty four hours and forgot about it. But like on
[1:18:53] Speaker 1: the iPhone, it's really tricky. So there are some there
[1:18:57] Speaker 1: are some apps that will do this for you. Clean
[1:19:01] Speaker 1: my Phone is one of them. You can check that
[1:19:03] Speaker 1: out and see. But again, you know, it's it's going
[1:19:07] Speaker 1: to take a while to figure this stuff out, to
[1:19:08] Speaker 1: get to get this to a place where it's under
[1:19:10] Speaker 1: the fifty gigs, including your backups. I think you're right, Rick,
[1:19:15] Speaker 1: The other thing you could do is if you're a
[1:19:17] Speaker 1: member or do you have Amazon Prime. I do, okay,
[1:19:20] Speaker 1: so they have a free photos app that as long
[1:19:22] Speaker 1: as you're an Amazon Prime member, you can download this
[1:19:25] Speaker 1: photos app from Amazon and it will back up all
[1:19:29] Speaker 1: of your photos for free and unlimited at full resolution.
[1:19:32] Speaker 1: But yeah, well the caveat is two things. Number One,
[1:19:39] Speaker 1: you have to be a Prime member, So if you
[1:19:40] Speaker 1: stop paying for Prime, you know, they'll give you a
[1:19:42] Speaker 1: certain amount of time where you have to download all
[1:19:44] Speaker 1: your stuff before they kick you out, you know, So
[1:19:47] Speaker 1: that's number one. Number two is they don't give you
[1:19:50] Speaker 1: any story. They give you a tiny bit of storage
[1:19:52] Speaker 1: for videos, so it's not a solution for your videos,
[1:19:56] Speaker 1: but if you want, you know, you can use this
[1:19:58] Speaker 1: as another way of offloading these pictures. So I use
[1:20:03] Speaker 1: it personally as like a secondary backup and I just
[1:20:05] Speaker 1: turn off the videos completely.
[1:20:06] Speaker 2: I say, don't even back up videos. Which it's actually
[1:20:09] Speaker 2: nice that the app gives you that option.
[1:20:11] Speaker 11: Yeah, okay, I didn't know about that, so thank you.
[1:20:13] Speaker 4: I appreciate that.
[1:20:14] Speaker 1: But yeah, I mean, look the photos. If you look
[1:20:17] Speaker 1: at the earnings reports of all the major companies, whether
[1:20:20] Speaker 1: it's Amazon, whether it is Apple and Google. The number
[1:20:25] Speaker 1: one growth for these companies right now is in what's
[1:20:28] Speaker 1: called their service and cloud divisions. And why do you
[1:20:32] Speaker 1: think that is all the stuff that we are uploading
[1:20:35] Speaker 1: from our phones? And why do you think these phones,
[1:20:37] Speaker 1: you know they keep they shoot in four K, they
[1:20:39] Speaker 1: shoot and you know higher megapixels, they're all taken up.
[1:20:43] Speaker 1: This is this is where it's at, Like, this is
[1:20:45] Speaker 1: money that these companies will make forever based on us
[1:20:48] Speaker 1: being unorganized.
[1:20:51] Speaker 11: I was I was thinking Apple's not selling a phone,
[1:20:53] Speaker 11: They're selling storage.
[1:20:54] Speaker 1: Yeah, that's that's really what it comes down to. They
[1:20:56] Speaker 1: sell the phone they make. You know, people are holding
[1:20:58] Speaker 1: their phones for thirty nine months now, so that that
[1:21:01] Speaker 1: money you spend on a phone, let's say you spend
[1:21:03] Speaker 1: eight hundred to one thousand dollars.
[1:21:04] Speaker 2: Do the math.
[1:21:05] Speaker 1: But if you're spending I mean Apple iCloud storage starts
[1:21:09] Speaker 1: at ninety nine cents a month, three ninety nine, five,
[1:21:11] Speaker 1: ninety nine, ten dollars, I think I'm up to twenty.
[1:21:14] Speaker 1: I'm up to two hundred and fifty dollars a year
[1:21:16] Speaker 1: on my Google storage, Apple storage. I pay for the
[1:21:21] Speaker 1: ridiculous Apple one, which is another forty bucks a month
[1:21:24] Speaker 1: and then I pay for Dropbox. So I mean, you know,
[1:21:27] Speaker 1: but I don't want anything to go away. So I'm
[1:21:29] Speaker 1: I'm a little crazy in that way where I want
[1:21:31] Speaker 1: everything all at once, and you know, plus I test
[1:21:34] Speaker 1: this stuff out, so well.
[1:21:35] Speaker 4: Thank you.
[1:21:36] Speaker 11: I'm going to hopefully my wife Maria will allow me
[1:21:38] Speaker 11: just to get the cloud stuff and just fight the bullet.
[1:21:41] Speaker 1: Yeah, I would sit down and uh, you know, like
[1:21:43] Speaker 1: I say to my wife, you know, if we're spending
[1:21:45] Speaker 1: over you know, a certain amount of money, usually like
[1:21:47] Speaker 1: over one hundred bucks, it's like family meeting time.
[1:21:49] Speaker 2: We got to talk about this. We got to discuss
[1:21:52] Speaker 2: So sit.
[1:21:53] Speaker 1: Down, you know, maybe pour some wine, you know, just
[1:21:56] Speaker 1: get everyone a little bit relaxed, and you know, we
[1:22:00] Speaker 1: talk about this cloud storage thing.
[1:22:02] Speaker 11: Rick all right, say thanks for your time. I really
[1:22:04] Speaker 11: appreciate it.
[1:22:05] Speaker 2: Thanks for the question. Appreciate it.
[1:22:07] Speaker 1: Just one more example of the fact that none of
[1:22:10] Speaker 1: us are organized when it comes to our photos. I
[1:22:12] Speaker 1: will tell you this, at the end of the day,
[1:22:15] Speaker 1: sit down and go through your photo role. Just take
[1:22:18] Speaker 1: ten minutes a day, because that is the best way
[1:22:20] Speaker 1: I found to get rid of a lot of the clutter,
[1:22:22] Speaker 1: a lot of the things you do during the day,
[1:22:24] Speaker 1: you don't necessarily need it long term eight eight eight
[1:22:27] Speaker 1: Rich one O one eight eight eight seven four to
[1:22:30] Speaker 1: two Poor one zero one. This is rich on Tech.
[1:22:35] Speaker 1: Welcome back to rich on Tech. Rich Demiro here hanging
[1:22:37] Speaker 1: out with you, talking technology. You can find me online
[1:22:42] Speaker 1: at richon Tech dot tv. Coming up this hour, YouTuber
[1:22:46] Speaker 1: Jimmy is Promo is going to talk about the Samsung
[1:22:51] Speaker 1: Galaxy S twenty five and give some tips and tricks
[1:22:53] Speaker 1: if you have a Samsung device, and we'll get to
[1:22:57] Speaker 1: the phone lines in just a moment. But first couple
[1:22:59] Speaker 1: of items of no true caller. This app finally, finally,
[1:23:04] Speaker 1: finally brings real time caller ID to the iPhone and
[1:23:08] Speaker 1: I got my first call yesterday where I identified it
[1:23:12] Speaker 1: using this app. So iPhone for many many years has
[1:23:16] Speaker 1: had spam blockers and some level of caller ID, but
[1:23:19] Speaker 1: this is the first time that apps can take advantage
[1:23:22] Speaker 1: of a new feature in the latest version of the
[1:23:25] Speaker 1: iOS software eighteen I think eighteen point three or eighteen
[1:23:29] Speaker 1: point two rather and basically you can now see real
[1:23:33] Speaker 1: time caller ID for the first time. I'm not going
[1:23:35] Speaker 1: to get into it, but it used to be that
[1:23:37] Speaker 1: apps like True Caller were limited to like a small
[1:23:40] Speaker 1: database of phone numbers they stored on your phone, but
[1:23:43] Speaker 1: now it can actually look up using what's called live
[1:23:47] Speaker 1: caller ID when someone actually calls. So this is a
[1:23:51] Speaker 1: paid subscriber situation, so you do have to pay either
[1:23:54] Speaker 1: ten dollars a month or seventy five dollars for the year.
[1:23:56] Speaker 1: But if you've been looking for a solution on the
[1:23:59] Speaker 1: iPhone for actual caller ID and also spam blocking that
[1:24:04] Speaker 1: actually works, this might be the solution. And again, yesterday
[1:24:09] Speaker 1: I got my first call where the caller phone number
[1:24:11] Speaker 1: came up with the name and I was like, oh,
[1:24:13] Speaker 1: there it is. Wow, it works. So True Caller is
[1:24:16] Speaker 1: the app. They do have a level of free service,
[1:24:18] Speaker 1: but if you want this new premium real time caller ID,
[1:24:22] Speaker 1: you gotta get the paid Let's see what else here?
[1:24:26] Speaker 1: Oh this app I love. It's called Rosebud. This is
[1:24:30] Speaker 1: a journaling app and it uses AI. And I'm not
[1:24:34] Speaker 1: kidding you know, I'm not a huge journaling guy, but
[1:24:38] Speaker 1: this has made me journal because I love it. It's
[1:24:42] Speaker 1: so it's called Rosebud and basically you put an entry
[1:24:46] Speaker 1: into the app and then the app uses AI to
[1:24:49] Speaker 1: kind of read what you wrote and gives you either
[1:24:52] Speaker 1: questions back or insights on what you wrote. So if
[1:24:55] Speaker 1: you're having like a rough day at work, you write
[1:24:57] Speaker 1: in I keep having problems with gym at work. You know,
[1:25:00] Speaker 1: just it's on my case every day about this. It
[1:25:02] Speaker 1: will basically identify like how you think, patterns, and it
[1:25:07] Speaker 1: just learns about you over time. I mean, it's really good.
[1:25:11] Speaker 1: I don't want to call this therapy, but it feels
[1:25:13] Speaker 1: almost like a mix of like therapy and life coaching
[1:25:17] Speaker 1: all in one. And it's again, I can't tell you
[1:25:21] Speaker 1: how good this is now. I know it seems a
[1:25:24] Speaker 1: little scary to have AI kind of like reading what
[1:25:27] Speaker 1: you're writing. But the guys who made this app, they
[1:25:30] Speaker 1: tell me everything is private, everything's encrypted, nobody's reading your stuff.
[1:25:34] Speaker 1: But I love this app. You type something in, like
[1:25:37] Speaker 1: the other day, I had a little thing at work
[1:25:39] Speaker 1: and I was like, oh, let me type this into Rosebud.
[1:25:41] Speaker 1: And the insights that it gives you about your life
[1:25:44] Speaker 1: are just like wow, it figures out, like it'll say, Rich,
[1:25:48] Speaker 1: here's how you think. Here's the pattern we notice over
[1:25:51] Speaker 1: and over. Here's what we notice you do over and over.
[1:25:53] Speaker 1: You say, over and over or how you react to
[1:25:55] Speaker 1: this situation over and over and it's really spot on.
[1:26:00] Speaker 1: So if you're looking for more like self awareness, self reflection,
[1:26:04] Speaker 1: maybe you just want to start a journal in the
[1:26:06] Speaker 1: new year, I would.
[1:26:07] Speaker 2: Check out this app. It's really really cool.
[1:26:10] Speaker 1: The website rosebud Dot app rosebud Dot app. It's available
[1:26:17] Speaker 1: for iPhone and Android, and I think, you know, if
[1:26:20] Speaker 1: you're looking to improve your mental health, you want that
[1:26:23] Speaker 1: kind of Like I told my wife the other day,
[1:26:24] Speaker 1: she was stressed out about something.
[1:26:26] Speaker 2: I said, did you journal about it?
[1:26:28] Speaker 1: Now that I'm mister journal And she, by the way,
[1:26:30] Speaker 1: is into like counseling and all that stuff, so she's like, no,
[1:26:33] Speaker 1: I haven't. I'm like, all right, well try that. And
[1:26:35] Speaker 1: I'm telling it just feels better to like write something
[1:26:39] Speaker 1: out and just get it out of your head and
[1:26:42] Speaker 1: onto somewhere else and then to get that. It gives
[1:26:45] Speaker 1: you a weekly report of like all the stuff that
[1:26:47] Speaker 1: happened and even figures out your mood. It'll give you
[1:26:49] Speaker 1: like a weekly like here was your mood during the
[1:26:52] Speaker 1: week based on how you wrote. So I really really
[1:26:54] Speaker 1: like this app rosebud And yes it's freemium, so there
[1:26:57] Speaker 1: is a free level of things you can do on it,
[1:26:59] Speaker 1: and of course a paid level. Kathy and Pittsburgh, welcome
[1:27:03] Speaker 1: to the show.
[1:27:04] Speaker 8: Hi. I'll warn you your listeners are going to be
[1:27:07] Speaker 8: bored and they're going to be laughing.
[1:27:09] Speaker 2: Okay, well are they listening to just me? Or is
[1:27:12] Speaker 2: that including what you're going to say?
[1:27:13] Speaker 8: No, that's what I'm going to say. First time. I
[1:27:15] Speaker 8: just heard you today, So thank you for taking my call.
[1:27:19] Speaker 8: Almost eighty years old, and I have been using Windows
[1:27:23] Speaker 8: eighty one on a desktop forever.
[1:27:26] Speaker 4: I love it.
[1:27:27] Speaker 8: But all of a sudden, I'm just getting delused with
[1:27:31] Speaker 8: must upgrade, you know, in order to access So I said, okay,
[1:27:36] Speaker 8: kicking and screaming. I'm trying to figure out what to get,
[1:27:41] Speaker 8: and I have to hardware everything in my house. But
[1:27:44] Speaker 8: here's two considerations. I recently was away from home for
[1:27:47] Speaker 8: a couple of weeks and had go to the library
[1:27:50] Speaker 8: to be able to access my emails, and such a
[1:27:51] Speaker 8: nice discuss to stop. So I'm looking for something that's portable,
[1:27:56] Speaker 8: and I don't know whether to go for a app
[1:28:00] Speaker 8: top tablet or what now. And I will mention because
[1:28:05] Speaker 8: I'm Wi Fi sensitive, I limit my use on my
[1:28:08] Speaker 8: cell phone. But I can put some protection and some
[1:28:12] Speaker 8: grounding to use.
[1:28:13] Speaker 2: A laptop or right, you can use a connection like
[1:28:16] Speaker 2: a wire.
[1:28:16] Speaker 1: I've got less than a minute, so I've got to Okay,
[1:28:18] Speaker 1: so here's my question for you, Kathy.
[1:28:20] Speaker 8: But what could you recommend for an old person that
[1:28:23] Speaker 8: doesn't really use their computer for much but emails than routes.
[1:28:26] Speaker 2: Okay, that's what I was going to ask you.
[1:28:27] Speaker 1: Do you want to accomplish work on this or you
[1:28:29] Speaker 1: just want to mostly consume?
[1:28:31] Speaker 4: No?
[1:28:32] Speaker 1: Okay, then I would say just get an iPad and
[1:28:34] Speaker 1: you can get you can get an adapter for Ethernet.
[1:28:37] Speaker 1: So if you want to, you know, a long cable
[1:28:38] Speaker 1: from your you know, your router, just connect it to
[1:28:41] Speaker 1: the bottom of the iPad. But that's the best thing
[1:28:42] Speaker 1: to get, because.
[1:28:43] Speaker 8: Do you have something other than an Apple product?
[1:28:45] Speaker 1: Oh yeah, go with the Samsung. Go with the Samsung
[1:28:48] Speaker 1: Tab S nine is their latest tablet. I would just
[1:28:52] Speaker 1: go with that. But you know, I will tell you
[1:28:55] Speaker 1: the apps are going to be way better on the iPad.
[1:28:58] Speaker 1: That's just the bottom line, because the iPad has the
[1:29:01] Speaker 1: most support for mobile apps.
[1:29:03] Speaker 2: So but the.
[1:29:04] Speaker 1: Tab, you know, the tab best nine will be great.
[1:29:06] Speaker 1: I think that it's gonna be a little bit more expensive,
[1:29:08] Speaker 1: but you know, it's gonna have a nice big screen.
[1:29:10] Speaker 1: It's gonna have all the Android apps, and you'll be
[1:29:12] Speaker 1: able to do all the stuff you want to do.
[1:29:15] Speaker 1: And then just get a little connector for the bottom
[1:29:16] Speaker 1: of the USB c to Ethernet to plug in your
[1:29:19] Speaker 1: Ethernet cable. Coming up, we're gonna talk to Jimmy is
[1:29:22] Speaker 1: Promo about Samsung right here on rich On tech Rich.
[1:29:27] Speaker 1: Welcome back to rich On tech Rich. DeMuro here hanging
[1:29:30] Speaker 1: out with you talking technology. What a show it's been.
[1:29:36] Speaker 1: First show in New York City. You know, don't forget
[1:29:38] Speaker 1: we're on other places and we're not going anywhere in LA.
[1:29:40] Speaker 1: We are staying put in LA as well. I know
[1:29:42] Speaker 1: I've gotten a lot of emails people saying, Rich, what
[1:29:44] Speaker 1: are you doing? No, No, we're We're now on both coasts.
[1:29:48] Speaker 2: What do they say? Both coasts best coast right? No, No,
[1:29:52] Speaker 2: one says that.
[1:29:55] Speaker 1: I've got a great guest here, YouTuber Jimmy is Promo,
[1:30:00] Speaker 1: always sharing tips and tricks and all things Samsung on YouTube.
[1:30:05] Speaker 2: Jimmy, welcome to the show.
[1:30:07] Speaker 13: Hey, thanks for having me, man, I appreciate it.
[1:30:09] Speaker 1: So Jimmy and I see each other once or twice
[1:30:12] Speaker 1: a year at the tech events, and he every time,
[1:30:16] Speaker 1: I'm just like, hey, can you wait, you could do
[1:30:18] Speaker 1: that on your phone. Wait what He's like, don't you
[1:30:20] Speaker 1: watch the channel? I'm like yes, But every time I
[1:30:22] Speaker 1: always pick up something new. So first off, I guess,
[1:30:26] Speaker 1: how did you get into like doing Samsung tips and tricks?
[1:30:30] Speaker 4: Yeah?
[1:30:31] Speaker 13: So it first originated quite a while ago. Was back
[1:30:34] Speaker 13: in twenty twelve. I was curious about, you know, what
[1:30:39] Speaker 13: is it like to upload a video? I was actually
[1:30:41] Speaker 13: in an AT and T store back then doing some
[1:30:44] Speaker 13: marketing and some promotions for what was brand new back
[1:30:48] Speaker 13: then was the original Note one Oh Wow, And so
[1:30:51] Speaker 13: I was showing off some of the tips on the
[1:30:53] Speaker 13: tricks and they're like, hey, take the phone home with you,
[1:30:55] Speaker 13: get used to it, play around with it, you know,
[1:30:59] Speaker 13: master that you're showing off, and I was like cool.
[1:31:01] Speaker 13: So I got home and pretty much at that time,
[1:31:03] Speaker 13: I was like, let's shoot a video. So I just
[1:31:06] Speaker 13: wanted to shoot something, and it was the same spiel
[1:31:09] Speaker 13: that I was doing in the stores, just showing off
[1:31:11] Speaker 13: all the brand new tips and tricks and the new features,
[1:31:14] Speaker 13: and basically I was curious of Okay, could I get
[1:31:17] Speaker 13: some views and where can it go? And so pretty
[1:31:20] Speaker 13: much it was mostly just based off of curiosity. So
[1:31:24] Speaker 13: I uploaded the first video. It actually did pretty well,
[1:31:26] Speaker 13: almost better than some of my videos today, but it
[1:31:29] Speaker 13: was I think that one got like a little over
[1:31:31] Speaker 13: three hundred and forty three hundred and fifty thousand views
[1:31:34] Speaker 13: pretty quick because there wasn't as many tech specific phone
[1:31:39] Speaker 13: related channels out there. Yeah, and so yeah, that's basically
[1:31:44] Speaker 13: how it started. So it came from the world of
[1:31:46] Speaker 13: marketing promotions showing customers how to use their phone, and
[1:31:49] Speaker 13: then it kind of moved into just doing it more
[1:31:53] Speaker 13: and more and more on YouTube. And then after I
[1:31:54] Speaker 13: figured out that it's actually a thing that I just
[1:31:56] Speaker 13: kept uploading. And then the name Jimmy is pro came
[1:32:01] Speaker 13: from the email that I created back way back in
[1:32:05] Speaker 13: the day doing promotional work tours promotions, and I was like,
[1:32:09] Speaker 13: I have to have an easy email that they would
[1:32:12] Speaker 13: go with and maybe something that's more professional than some
[1:32:15] Speaker 13: of the older emails that we had, and so Jimmy
[1:32:17] Speaker 13: is Promo just kind of stayed and that's just kind
[1:32:20] Speaker 13: of how I got that work. And then that's how
[1:32:23] Speaker 13: YouTube kept the name of Jimmy as promo. The only
[1:32:26] Speaker 13: change I did was put in the spaces between Jimmy
[1:32:29] Speaker 13: is promo.
[1:32:30] Speaker 1: And as they say, the rest is history. So now,
[1:32:32] Speaker 1: of course you have a channel on YouTube and you
[1:32:34] Speaker 1: know very successful. What do you think about the new
[1:32:37] Speaker 1: S twenty five series. I've been loving it. I think
[1:32:40] Speaker 1: it is the best phone.
[1:32:41] Speaker 2: Now.
[1:32:41] Speaker 1: I know you may have a different opinion because you
[1:32:43] Speaker 1: know the micro SD cards and the Bluetooth on the
[1:32:46] Speaker 1: you know, no Bluetooth on the stylist, But like, I
[1:32:49] Speaker 1: think this is overall the best Samsung phone I've ever used.
[1:32:53] Speaker 13: I mean, I'd say it's the best well rounded phone
[1:32:56] Speaker 13: I think. I'm and I guess pun intended with the corners.
[1:32:59] Speaker 13: I mean, I love the flag that you know, with
[1:33:01] Speaker 13: the S twenty four it was a rectangular device and
[1:33:04] Speaker 13: if you use it without a case, it was just
[1:33:06] Speaker 13: in your palm. Yeah, and so this is a comfortable
[1:33:09] Speaker 13: phone to hold, a comfortable phone to use. So with
[1:33:12] Speaker 13: the rounded corners you have a little bit better performance
[1:33:15] Speaker 13: than even the S twenty four Ultra. I mean, I
[1:33:17] Speaker 13: can tell the difference between the camera as well as
[1:33:20] Speaker 13: the sound, Like I feel like it sounds much better
[1:33:22] Speaker 13: than the S twenty four and then also Samsung one
[1:33:26] Speaker 13: UY seven Yeah, which is basically the skin that Samsung
[1:33:29] Speaker 13: uses on top of Android. It just it gives you
[1:33:32] Speaker 13: a really good experience, a whole bunch of really fun,
[1:33:34] Speaker 13: you know, packed features, and yeah, so far, it's definitely
[1:33:42] Speaker 13: one that I could tell the difference between the S
[1:33:44] Speaker 13: twenty four and for anybody who was holding onto any
[1:33:46] Speaker 13: phone of like the S twenty, the S twenty one,
[1:33:48] Speaker 13: the S twenty two, the S twenty three, they'll see
[1:33:51] Speaker 13: a huge difference for upgrades.
[1:33:54] Speaker 4: If you're maybe.
[1:33:56] Speaker 13: Moving or thinking of moving from the S twenty four
[1:33:58] Speaker 13: series to the S twenty five series, those are mostly
[1:34:01] Speaker 13: those who love the latest and greatest, who wants the
[1:34:04] Speaker 13: highest trade and value for the most recent phone. But yeah,
[1:34:07] Speaker 13: anybody that moves into it, I think is going to have,
[1:34:10] Speaker 13: you know, a really good experience with the device.
[1:34:12] Speaker 1: I'd say, even if you have the S twenty four
[1:34:14] Speaker 1: and you're thinking of it, go for it, because I
[1:34:17] Speaker 1: just think that just the design alone on the S
[1:34:20] Speaker 1: twenty five Ultra compared to the twenty four is like
[1:34:23] Speaker 1: it just feels perfect in your hand, like compared to
[1:34:26] Speaker 1: the old one, which was fine, but it wasn't as
[1:34:29] Speaker 1: easy to hold and manipulate as this one.
[1:34:31] Speaker 2: So yeah, that's my thing. Who's going.
[1:34:34] Speaker 13: I mean, you get a little bit better of a
[1:34:35] Speaker 13: camera set up like the Ultra wise a little bit better. Yeah,
[1:34:38] Speaker 13: and then even even the power efficiency is better, so you.
[1:34:41] Speaker 1: Thel the cooling is way improved because it's like the
[1:34:45] Speaker 1: vape what I mean. I know this is nerdy and techy,
[1:34:47] Speaker 1: but like that vapor chamber, it's like bigger, so it
[1:34:50] Speaker 1: keeps the phone cooler. Like I'm not kidding, Jimmy, I
[1:34:53] Speaker 1: was using the pixel of was the pixel fold. The
[1:34:56] Speaker 1: heat that that thing puts out compared to the Samsung
[1:34:59] Speaker 1: that does not heat up at all, is just it's
[1:35:03] Speaker 1: just night and day.
[1:35:04] Speaker 13: Yeah, I believe the vapor chamber, if I remember right,
[1:35:06] Speaker 13: they said it was forty percent larger in the S
[1:35:09] Speaker 13: twenty five Ultra versus the S twenty four Ultra.
[1:35:12] Speaker 1: So that means that your phone when it's being used,
[1:35:14] Speaker 1: if you're playing games or just using it a lot,
[1:35:16] Speaker 1: or even charging it, it's just not going to get
[1:35:19] Speaker 1: hot compared to the older model. And it to me,
[1:35:22] Speaker 1: I've never even felt this phone warm. I know it's
[1:35:24] Speaker 1: not the summer right now, but it's still pretty pretty good. Okay,
[1:35:29] Speaker 1: So I wanted you to touch upon one thing before
[1:35:32] Speaker 1: we get to some of your tips and tricks. But
[1:35:33] Speaker 1: easy Mode this is a really this is like a
[1:35:37] Speaker 1: nice hidden gem on the Samsung side of things. Can
[1:35:39] Speaker 1: you explain what that is?
[1:35:41] Speaker 13: Yeah, so easy Mode it's actually even easy to find.
[1:35:45] Speaker 13: So it just changes your display so you still have
[1:35:49] Speaker 13: a very powerful phone. But when you go inside your
[1:35:52] Speaker 13: display settings, you have an option for easy Mode. And
[1:35:56] Speaker 13: what it does is it makes it easier to use.
[1:35:59] Speaker 13: It is limiting basically what is shown on the screen.
[1:36:03] Speaker 13: It also has larger print. It only comes with three
[1:36:06] Speaker 13: home screens initially, so on the left hand side, if
[1:36:10] Speaker 13: you swipe to the left, that is where you're gonna
[1:36:12] Speaker 13: have all of your quick contacts. So like you have
[1:36:15] Speaker 13: I believe it's nine or twelve. I think it could
[1:36:16] Speaker 13: be nine contacts and you tap on them so in
[1:36:19] Speaker 13: this way you can either call them or text them.
[1:36:22] Speaker 13: Then you have your main home screen that you can
[1:36:23] Speaker 13: move your applications wherever you want them to go. You
[1:36:26] Speaker 13: have your camera, the Internet, and then your next screen
[1:36:29] Speaker 13: is just whatever you want there, like if you want
[1:36:32] Speaker 13: a couple of widgets, you know, on the right so
[1:36:34] Speaker 13: pretty much, it's like if you don't need all the
[1:36:39] Speaker 13: bells and whistles, but you still want it, you can
[1:36:42] Speaker 13: basically tone it down.
[1:36:43] Speaker 2: And that's really what easy mode does.
[1:36:45] Speaker 1: Yeah, it just makes the phone like just simpler. I mean,
[1:36:47] Speaker 1: look in general, like you if it's like someone that's
[1:36:50] Speaker 1: a little bit more elderly or a senior that you
[1:36:53] Speaker 1: know may not want everything or just want something simple,
[1:36:56] Speaker 1: or even the fact that I was looking at it
[1:36:58] Speaker 1: and it says it increases the touch and hold delay,
[1:37:01] Speaker 1: so that means that like you know, some people like
[1:37:04] Speaker 1: they may hold things or touch their screen longer and
[1:37:06] Speaker 1: like now they're like, oh, something just happened. I don't
[1:37:08] Speaker 1: know why I didn't do anything. Well, that's because you're
[1:37:10] Speaker 1: touching stuff randomly and it's activating stuff. So this actually
[1:37:14] Speaker 1: makes that delay longer so that you're not like triggering
[1:37:17] Speaker 1: random stuff all the time, which I know you know
[1:37:19] Speaker 1: is a common problem. So any tip you want to
[1:37:23] Speaker 1: offer for the Samsung phones, anything that you think people
[1:37:25] Speaker 1: should look into if they have one of these things.
[1:37:29] Speaker 13: I mean, first off, when it comes down to you know,
[1:37:32] Speaker 13: let's say like the camera. Pretty much for the camera,
[1:37:36] Speaker 13: you're able to play with your Galaxy Log if you
[1:37:40] Speaker 13: want to create like a really nice video shot where
[1:37:44] Speaker 13: you're able to notice if you're shooting something that's overexposed,
[1:37:48] Speaker 13: so you'll have like just a really clean shot, so
[1:37:52] Speaker 13: you'll be able to play with the Galaxy Log a
[1:37:54] Speaker 13: couple of things too, Like one of the newer ones,
[1:37:56] Speaker 13: it's features called now bar, And if you're into sports,
[1:38:00] Speaker 13: if it's NBA or baseball, basketball, football, doesn't matter what
[1:38:04] Speaker 13: it is. They actually have a new now bar that
[1:38:07] Speaker 13: is called Live Sports and pretty much it's associated with
[1:38:11] Speaker 13: your Google and it's actually very easy to set up.
[1:38:14] Speaker 13: I've actually shown videos showing off like the best tips
[1:38:18] Speaker 13: in the tricks, some of the hidden features, some of
[1:38:21] Speaker 13: the settings can change immediately, you know, on my channel.
[1:38:25] Speaker 13: And also if you create, you know, some of the
[1:38:27] Speaker 13: simple stuff. If you create something on your calendar and
[1:38:29] Speaker 13: you notice it's on the wrong day, you can do
[1:38:31] Speaker 13: a simple drag and drop rather than editing, so you
[1:38:35] Speaker 13: can just drag it and drop it to the correct
[1:38:36] Speaker 13: date and then that's all you would have to do.
[1:38:39] Speaker 13: And then you can, if you want, fully customize your
[1:38:41] Speaker 13: lock screen and your home screen.
[1:38:44] Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean that's I think that's the biggest I mean,
[1:38:46] Speaker 1: I guess I should ask you this, why do you
[1:38:48] Speaker 1: like Samsung and Android over iOS?
[1:38:51] Speaker 6: Yeah?
[1:38:51] Speaker 13: So, I mean one of the reasons would be a
[1:38:54] Speaker 13: lot of the customizations. I mean, there's just so much
[1:38:56] Speaker 13: you can do with it. And actually, yesterday I played
[1:38:59] Speaker 13: with the new and upcoming Samsung Home Up application. It's
[1:39:05] Speaker 13: where you can fully free form set up your entire
[1:39:09] Speaker 13: home screen however you want. You can diagnoalize anything, make
[1:39:13] Speaker 13: any application bigger.
[1:39:16] Speaker 2: You can also.
[1:39:18] Speaker 13: Change your animation, so some people love the animations of
[1:39:21] Speaker 13: Samsung phones. You can actually completely change how the animation looks,
[1:39:24] Speaker 13: how it bounces, how fast or how slow it goes.
[1:39:27] Speaker 13: So I'd say the number one would be a customization.
[1:39:30] Speaker 13: Other than that, I mean, Samsung is you know, if
[1:39:32] Speaker 13: you're looked in that security reasons, Samsung is just as
[1:39:35] Speaker 13: you know, just as or more secure than Apple, Especially
[1:39:38] Speaker 13: when it.
[1:39:38] Speaker 2: Comes down to Samsung Knox.
[1:39:41] Speaker 13: I think personally, just because my home has so many
[1:39:44] Speaker 13: Samsung products that I feel they have a bigger ecosystem
[1:39:47] Speaker 13: because not only do they have you know, Samsung has
[1:39:49] Speaker 13: the phones, the watches, the tabs, the earbuds, they have
[1:39:52] Speaker 13: the TVs, the washers, the dryers, the refrigerators, the robot vacuums, everything,
[1:39:57] Speaker 13: so you can just connect everything together. And then lastly,
[1:40:01] Speaker 13: I'll say the camera. So I know that I have
[1:40:05] Speaker 13: a few friends that have Apple iPhone devices and if
[1:40:09] Speaker 13: I'm with them, they'll say, hey, Jimmy, just take the photo.
[1:40:12] Speaker 13: And it's sometimes just because they know that I can
[1:40:14] Speaker 13: sometimes create a better shot.
[1:40:17] Speaker 2: Than what they can.
[1:40:18] Speaker 13: So I don't know if it's a big main thing
[1:40:19] Speaker 13: out there, but in my world out here, some of
[1:40:22] Speaker 13: my iPhone friends asked me to take the photos. Which
[1:40:24] Speaker 13: is funny because within Samsung phones and Apple phones, they
[1:40:29] Speaker 13: both use sensors that are coming from either Sony or Samsung.
[1:40:35] Speaker 13: It just kind of depends on some of the processing
[1:40:37] Speaker 13: after the fact. Interesting, So I love the camera and
[1:40:41] Speaker 13: the security and the ecosystem and the customizable you know, customizability.
[1:40:46] Speaker 2: Yeah, that's really what it comes down to. I mean,
[1:40:47] Speaker 2: obviously it's a personal preference, and you know there's always
[1:40:50] Speaker 2: till the end of the world there will be a
[1:40:52] Speaker 2: debate of iPhone versus Android.
[1:40:53] Speaker 1: But that's what makes this stuff fun. Jimmy is promo
[1:40:57] Speaker 1: search them up on YouTube, subscribe to his chance if
[1:41:00] Speaker 1: you want to take your Samsung to the next level.
[1:41:03] Speaker 1: I mean, this stuff, it's just like you sit there
[1:41:06] Speaker 1: in like every little setting that you go through, every
[1:41:08] Speaker 1: little customization feature, it's all there and you do a
[1:41:12] Speaker 1: great job.
[1:41:12] Speaker 2: Jimmy, thanks for joining me today. Thank you man, I
[1:41:15] Speaker 2: appreciate it.
[1:41:16] Speaker 13: Thank you so much for having me on the show
[1:41:18] Speaker 13: and taking up some of your time.
[1:41:20] Speaker 2: Absolutely all right.
[1:41:21] Speaker 1: Coming up next, we're going to open up the feedback,
[1:41:24] Speaker 1: get into some of the emails this week, and I'll
[1:41:26] Speaker 1: tell you about the web browser that wants you to
[1:41:28] Speaker 1: take a break from the Internet. This is rich on Tech.
[1:41:33] Speaker 1: Welcome back to rich On Tech. Rich Demiro here hanging
[1:41:35] Speaker 1: out with you, talking technology. You know, I didn't think
[1:41:41] Speaker 1: that I would like a new web browser, but I
[1:41:43] Speaker 1: got to tell you this Opera Air. It's a brand
[1:41:46] Speaker 1: new web browser that I'm kind of loving. And it's
[1:41:50] Speaker 1: called Opera Air. It's made by Opera company out of
[1:41:55] Speaker 1: I think they're Scandinavian, and you know, Opera's been around forever.
[1:41:59] Speaker 1: But this new web browser is all about mindfulness and
[1:42:02] Speaker 1: well being. So a couple features that are really neat.
[1:42:05] Speaker 1: Not only does this web browser look really cool, it's
[1:42:08] Speaker 1: like very like nice like kind of a almost like
[1:42:10] Speaker 1: a I don't know if I want to say a
[1:42:12] Speaker 1: green design, but it just looks like very modern and
[1:42:14] Speaker 1: like fresh. But it's got two special modes take a
[1:42:18] Speaker 1: break mode, so it's got it reminds you to take
[1:42:21] Speaker 1: a break, so if you've been on the internet for
[1:42:23] Speaker 1: too long, it'll say, hey, take a break, and then
[1:42:25] Speaker 1: you can do these breathing exercises, meditation and body scans.
[1:42:29] Speaker 1: Then it's got this Boosts feature, which features binaural beats
[1:42:34] Speaker 1: to enhance relaxation, focus, and creativity. So they've got a
[1:42:37] Speaker 1: creativity boost and energized focus, deep relaxation, mental clarity, analytical thinking,
[1:42:43] Speaker 1: and peak concentration. Now I use the I wrote my newsletter, which,
[1:42:47] Speaker 1: by the way, you can subscribe to Rich on tech
[1:42:49] Speaker 1: dot tv. Sign up there for free. But I use
[1:42:52] Speaker 1: the energized focus yesterday while I wrote my newsletter. I'm
[1:42:56] Speaker 1: not kidding, it might be my best newsletter yet. Now
[1:42:59] Speaker 1: they go into these things. Theta six hurts, Alpha twelve hurts.
[1:43:04] Speaker 1: I don't know what that means, but it's like something
[1:43:06] Speaker 1: in the beat, the vibration. I don't know, but it's
[1:43:09] Speaker 1: just these are great and they're built in. It's like
[1:43:11] Speaker 1: background music. Then it also has CHATCHYBT in the sidebar,
[1:43:16] Speaker 1: so you can surf and got CHATCHYBT to your left.
[1:43:19] Speaker 1: It blocks ads and trackers in the settings. It's not
[1:43:22] Speaker 1: on by default, but you can toggle it on and
[1:43:24] Speaker 1: you can even get Chrome extensions. So I'm like, I'm
[1:43:27] Speaker 1: almost ready to switch to this web browser to try
[1:43:30] Speaker 1: it out because I'm trying to figure out what the
[1:43:31] Speaker 1: downside is. Oh, there's also a VPN built in, so
[1:43:35] Speaker 1: again it's called Opera Air. It's brand new. It's all
[1:43:37] Speaker 1: about mindfulness.
[1:43:38] Speaker 2: I don't know.
[1:43:39] Speaker 1: I would check it out. It's pretty nice, all right,
[1:43:41] Speaker 1: Let's open up the feedbag. This is a feedback plus
[1:43:45] Speaker 1: the mail bag mixed into one. These emails, the comments
[1:43:48] Speaker 1: and the questions I've gotten from you. If you want
[1:43:50] Speaker 1: to submit yours, go to Rich on tech dot tv
[1:43:52] Speaker 1: hit contact. Jeff writes in about the language issues we
[1:43:56] Speaker 1: had with our earlier caller. He said, if you're having
[1:43:59] Speaker 1: trouble with the language on Windows, try pressing Windows key
[1:44:03] Speaker 1: plus space to quickly switch between languages. You said the
[1:44:07] Speaker 1: shortcut works if you have multiple languages installed, and of
[1:44:09] Speaker 1: course you also said settings time in language, language and region,
[1:44:14] Speaker 1: make sure the right language is set there hope that works.
[1:44:16] Speaker 2: Thank you, Jeff.
[1:44:18] Speaker 1: Jay writes in, I was listening to your podcast from
[1:44:20] Speaker 1: last week about the Samsung Galaxy S twenty five and
[1:44:23] Speaker 1: whether an mv and O would offer the satellite feature.
[1:44:26] Speaker 1: I just got a Samsung S twenty five and was
[1:44:28] Speaker 1: thinking about switching from Verizon to Visible, but Visible told
[1:44:31] Speaker 1: me they don't offer the feature, even though the phone
[1:44:33] Speaker 1: is capable, I'd have to stay with Verizon to use it.
[1:44:36] Speaker 2: That is a great point.
[1:44:38] Speaker 1: All these mv and o's that offer inexpensive coverage or
[1:44:42] Speaker 1: inexpensive monthly service, you may not get that new satellite
[1:44:46] Speaker 1: texting if your phone doesn't have that capability. Like with Apple,
[1:44:50] Speaker 1: it's built in with the pixel, it's built in. What
[1:44:52] Speaker 1: was Samsung? They are relying on the cellular carriers to
[1:44:56] Speaker 1: offer satellite, so I haven't heard a word about these
[1:44:58] Speaker 1: mv and os offering that great great point, Jay, let's see.
[1:45:03] Speaker 1: Eric writes in via Facebook, Facebook dot com slash rich
[1:45:06] Speaker 1: on tech, thanks for covering Netflix plans. The Netflix standard
[1:45:09] Speaker 1: with ADS plan at eight bucks a month does allow
[1:45:12] Speaker 1: downloads right now, Netflix is the only streaming service that
[1:45:15] Speaker 1: lets users download content on an AD supported plan. I
[1:45:18] Speaker 1: was surprised you didn't mention this. I appreciate the clarification, Eric,
[1:45:22] Speaker 1: I did not realize that Netflix added downloads to this plan.
[1:45:26] Speaker 1: When it first came out, it was streaming only. They
[1:45:29] Speaker 1: did not have offline viewing, so I'm glad they changed that.
[1:45:33] Speaker 1: And you know what, eight bucks a month?
[1:45:36] Speaker 2: Why not? Let's see.
[1:45:39] Speaker 1: Ferlan writes in just listening to your last show heard
[1:45:41] Speaker 1: you mentioned Michael and Kentucky asking about the car tablet Promax.
[1:45:45] Speaker 1: I bought the model from Amazon. Installation takes some work
[1:45:49] Speaker 1: if to mount the review mirror. I run the audio
[1:45:51] Speaker 1: through the auxport on my twenty twelve forward focus. I
[1:45:54] Speaker 1: really wanted a backup camera. I love it. CarPlay works great.
[1:45:57] Speaker 1: Then unit records constantly, which is great in case of
[1:45:59] Speaker 1: an accident. Great for an old car that doesn't have
[1:46:02] Speaker 1: car Player Android Otto. Okay, there you go, let's see.
[1:46:06] Speaker 1: Robert writes in bottom Line. I'm almost seventy. I'm not
[1:46:08] Speaker 1: tech savvy and still do most things manually, including running
[1:46:11] Speaker 1: my fifty year old business. I keep someone on retainer
[1:46:14] Speaker 1: for tech help. But you've always answered my questions, and

[1:47:14] Speaker 1: there are some people that help on this show, but
[1:47:16] Speaker 1: all the other stuff is just me.
[1:47:17] Speaker 2: Uh, including the newsletter.
[1:47:19] Speaker 1: That's going to do it. For this episode of the show.
