[0:16] Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome to Rewind with Karen and Georgia.
[0:21] Speaker 2: That's right, it's Wednesday, and that means we are here
[0:24] Speaker 2: recapping our old shows with all new commentary, updates and insights.
[0:28] Speaker 1: Today we're looking back on episode eighty six, which we
[0:31] Speaker 1: named Live at the en More Theater.
[0:34] Speaker 2: That's right, and we named it that because we are
[0:37] Speaker 2: in Sydney, Australia. This was one of the greatest live
[0:41] Speaker 2: shows we have ever done. I'm just going to say it.
[0:44] Speaker 2: The episode originally came out September fourteenth, twenty seventeen.
[0:48] Speaker 1: All right, let's listen to the intro of episode eighty six.
[1:22] Speaker 1: What's up Sydney. We finally got that right, We finally
[1:29] Speaker 1: did it right. Tonight's to night.
[1:31] Speaker 2: Oh shit, guys, DM, what's up? What's been up with
[1:37] Speaker 2: you guys lately?
[1:38] Speaker 1: What's your weekend?
[1:39] Speaker 2: How's things been going with you? Like, Oh, it's so
[1:42] Speaker 2: exciting to be here.
[1:44] Speaker 1: Have you ever had every single one of your triggers
[1:48] Speaker 1: triggered every one time? Cuz I have.
[1:55] Speaker 2: I'm gonna start this show by saying, this is my
[1:59] Speaker 2: favorite murdering a true crime podcast. That's that's also a
[2:10] Speaker 2: comedy broadcast, which is a difficult and complex combination.
[2:17] Speaker 1: And they're they're in there, we together.
[2:19] Speaker 2: And you simply must trust us that we're good people.
[2:28] Speaker 2: That's just for the newbies. That's just for the people
[2:31] Speaker 2: who are forced here or who saw something in the
[2:33] Speaker 2: newspaper and they were like, let's roll the dice.
[2:36] Speaker 1: Yeah, I love podcasts, this American Life. Love that podcast.
[2:40] Speaker 1: Let's go to this one.
[2:41] Speaker 2: Oh my god, Mark Maren, that's oh all right, I'll
[2:45] Speaker 2: go to a pot live podcast.
[2:47] Speaker 1: Yes, let's see what happens. Uh So we we wanted
[2:51] Speaker 1: to tell you guys what happened last night, just to
[2:54] Speaker 1: kind of address.
[2:55] Speaker 2: It, because at this point the rumors are so insane.
[3:01] Speaker 2: It's a little it's a little bit crazy. Georgia looked
[3:06] Speaker 2: on the way over here. Georgia looked her phone and
[3:07] Speaker 2: she goes, oh, now they're saying I walked off stage.
[3:10] Speaker 2: It's just like, hold on, what is happening.
[3:13] Speaker 1: I didn't I wanted to, never wanted to more my life.
[3:19] Speaker 3: Uh.
[3:20] Speaker 1: We started the show by talking about plucking chin hairs as.
[3:25] Speaker 2: You do, I mean, who doesn't do that?
[3:28] Speaker 1: Again?
[3:28] Speaker 2: Comedy, True crime, Comedy Live podcast, and then.
[3:33] Speaker 1: Karen did a great lighthearted murder that's how I do
[3:38] Speaker 1: it such a thing, and then I didn't. I was
[3:43] Speaker 1: doing this thing where like I did I did Jill
[3:47] Speaker 1: mar the night before. Yep, that's exactly what happened.
[3:50] Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[3:52] Speaker 1: So I was like, well, this time I'm going to
[3:53] Speaker 1: go in a different direction.
[3:55] Speaker 2: Oh, let me just stop you by saying that anyone again?
[3:59] Speaker 1: Who am be?
[4:00] Speaker 2: New? She did Jill mart And when we did our
[4:04] Speaker 2: meet and greet, which is where we get a lot
[4:06] Speaker 2: of feedback, and we love to hear feedback and people
[4:09] Speaker 2: tell us what they think, every single person was like,
[4:11] Speaker 2: I was so scared that you were doing that, and
[4:13] Speaker 2: you did it great, And it's obviously no, no, no, no,
[4:17] Speaker 2: it's okay.
[4:18] Speaker 1: But I mean, like, the one thing we talk about
[4:21] Speaker 1: all the time is that we're here to represent and
[4:24] Speaker 1: support the victims. A comedy is not around that. So
[4:28] Speaker 1: I think I'm okay with the way I did. But
[4:30] Speaker 1: then I I touched a Nerve's the next last night.
[4:36] Speaker 2: Yeah, and there was somebody in the audience who clearly
[4:39] Speaker 2: was having Where's Out for the weekend and made a
[4:44] Speaker 2: bad entertainment choice, you know what.
[4:47] Speaker 1: To know what I had that happened some fucking sweet
[4:50] Speaker 1: hardcore murdering. I was like, fuck, I have to work tonight,
[4:52] Speaker 1: Uncle Dave, listen, Aunt.
[4:56] Speaker 2: Julie to tickets.
[4:57] Speaker 1: You guys love horror movies, You're really a horror movies.
[5:00] Speaker 1: You guys love comedy. I feel like you might enjoy
[5:04] Speaker 1: this thing.
[5:04] Speaker 2: And that Murderina was wrong, Yeah, deeply wrong. Yeah uh
[5:11] Speaker 2: really at the end of the day, what happened is
[5:13] Speaker 2: and as a person who's done stand up comedy for
[5:16] Speaker 2: us right one hundred years, we just got heckled. I
[5:20] Speaker 2: mean that's at the long and the short of it.
[5:21] Speaker 2: It's there's been There's been a lot of words used
[5:25] Speaker 2: to describe what happened that I think are inaccurate, because
[5:28] Speaker 2: just it was a guy yelling this is shite. And
[5:31] Speaker 2: although it's rude and jarring and upsetting, it's still not
[5:36] Speaker 2: like AsSalt or anything, you know what I mean. Like,
[5:38] Speaker 2: it's just a person going fuck this. The only thing
[5:41] Speaker 2: was really Yeah, he was mad, and also he had
[5:45] Speaker 2: like the lungs of Pavarotti. He was the loudiest person
[5:51] Speaker 2: I've ever heard speak.
[5:52] Speaker 1: And if you can imagine, all these Murderinos were like
[5:55] Speaker 1: like this, what the you know, in their minds, what
[5:58] Speaker 1: the fuck? But we were all like what the fuck?
[6:00] Speaker 1: The fuck?
[6:01] Speaker 2: Everyone was like what the fuck for a while, yeah,
[6:04] Speaker 2: and and he It seemed like it went on for
[6:07] Speaker 2: twenty five minutes. It was probably twenty seconds, and then
[6:10] Speaker 2: they just tied tailed it out of there, and then
[6:12] Speaker 2: we had to like sit in it for a little while.
[6:16] Speaker 1: I did start crying that art is true.
[6:18] Speaker 2: Well, it was upsetting because he was yelling at her.
[6:22] Speaker 2: And also it was this moment where, like it happens
[6:25] Speaker 2: all the time in this podcast, we were talking about
[6:28] Speaker 2: something incredibly sensitive and then one of us fucks up
[6:31] Speaker 2: and the other one makes fun of that person, and
[6:34] Speaker 2: they interpreted that as us laughing at someone's death, which
[6:40] Speaker 2: makes sense logistically, you know what I mean. It's like
[6:43] Speaker 2: these these it's not we didn't argue it, you know
[6:46] Speaker 2: what I mean, because that's that was what was happening,
[6:49] Speaker 2: But it also was not what was happening in the
[6:51] Speaker 2: least so.
[6:52] Speaker 1: And then Karen, fuck I just looked at her and
[6:54] Speaker 1: I was like, what you fucking like a champ took
[6:58] Speaker 1: over and like said the most eloquent, wonderful thing, and
[7:01] Speaker 1: it was so nice. It meant so much to me. Listen,
[7:04] Speaker 1: I have to say, I'm so fucking happy you're on
[7:07] Speaker 1: my team, and I'm so lucky that you have my
[7:10] Speaker 1: back and.
[7:10] Speaker 2: It's me and I'm not pandering.
[7:12] Speaker 1: Look, I'm just Pandora.
[7:17] Speaker 2: I trained at the Improv Olympic for twenty two years now,
[7:22] Speaker 2: I'm just kidding.
[7:24] Speaker 1: Yeah, And it's.
[7:24] Speaker 2: Just like, you know what in my for me, I've
[7:28] Speaker 2: come from a family of incredibly loud yellers. So it
[7:31] Speaker 2: was like, oh my god, Thanksgiving again. I was just like,
[7:35] Speaker 2: are you done? Okay, we get your volume.
[7:39] Speaker 1: Anger. No, I'm not like that.
[7:42] Speaker 2: No, that's not her experience.
[7:43] Speaker 1: No. But yeah, So.
[7:47] Speaker 2: There's also people who were like, don't quit the podcast.
[7:50] Speaker 2: We're like, are you I just fucking quit my job.
[7:53] Speaker 1: I have to do this podcast.
[7:56] Speaker 2: I've I've painted myself into a corner.
[7:59] Speaker 1: Seriously, We're never gonna post that episode. I think we
[8:04] Speaker 1: should post the part that we whatever.
[8:08] Speaker 2: Anyways, Yeah, so I don't here that's ever gonna happen
[8:11] Speaker 2: out of context. People will be like, that was a
[8:14] Speaker 2: weird speech. That was a weird, quiet speech about how
[8:20] Speaker 2: hard life can be.
[8:21] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[8:24] Speaker 2: Yeah, that was just a magical select moment for us.
[8:27] Speaker 2: And the funniest part o the VIP, Oh my god,
[8:32] Speaker 2: there were people who would come up and be like,
[8:35] Speaker 2: it's so funny because I have anxiety disorder, and we're like,
[8:38] Speaker 2: oh shit, it's like the worst case scenario for people
[8:42] Speaker 2: who already like it was hard for me to come here.
[8:44] Speaker 1: And then the man started yelling. They were like, then
[8:48] Speaker 1: an angry man. We're like, this is and it's ninety nine.
[8:52] Speaker 1: Look around here, it's like all women here. Oh and
[8:55] Speaker 1: then you guys have to, okay, listen, don't tell anyone
[8:58] Speaker 1: we told you this. Don't tell me the retarde to this.
[9:00] Speaker 1: But they said to us, please don't tell Stidney about.
[9:05] Speaker 2: So they were really I mean, but here's the thing,
[9:11] Speaker 2: they were very embarrassed. Every single person that we met
[9:14] Speaker 2: in that VIP was so lovely to us. They were
[9:16] Speaker 2: so And then we had people part of what Georgia's
[9:20] Speaker 2: story about was a crime family who uh ambushed cops
[9:25] Speaker 2: and were trying to kill cops, and that was part
[9:28] Speaker 2: of the sensitivity. And about the fourth people who walked
[9:31] Speaker 2: up in the VIP line both worked for the Victoria
[9:34] Speaker 2: Police Department and one of the women was like, my
[9:38] Speaker 2: boss told me to listen to this podcast for the
[9:42] Speaker 2: health of my job. And we were like.
[9:45] Speaker 1: Are you just saying that again?
[9:49] Speaker 2: And then I was like, then in dinged in my head,
[9:51] Speaker 2: I was like, hey, there was a cop here last night.
[9:53] Speaker 1: She likes our podcast is so you know she gave
[9:57] Speaker 1: us a caution tape.
[9:58] Speaker 2: Yeah, little badge.
[10:00] Speaker 1: Yeah. But then Australia, you guys responded in the fucking
[10:06] Speaker 1: coolest way. That makes the coolest so fucking happy, and
[10:11] Speaker 1: you all get credit, you all get credit. We just
[10:15] Speaker 1: feel like the mascots of this podcast with I feel
[10:18] Speaker 1: like I have a like a tiger head on and
[10:20] Speaker 1: a murderino and like we're like cartwheeling, and then everyone
[10:25] Speaker 1: else is the football team. Yeah exactly, but that doesn't
[10:28] Speaker 1: make any sense here.
[10:28] Speaker 2: And but what you want to be at midnight? Yeah,
[10:33] Speaker 2: two murderinos. It was Danica and.
[10:37] Speaker 1: Dan We have their names, Nadan, Dean and Danica. They
[10:41] Speaker 1: are social workers in Brisbane and they started basically, oh yeah,
[10:47] Speaker 1: campaign are.
[10:51] Speaker 2: Yeah, And so we had Stephen grab a still of
[10:56] Speaker 2: what the total of money raised for this having happened.
[11:00] Speaker 2: And can you see that, you guys? This was as
[11:06] Speaker 2: of six o'clock today. It's nine thousand dollars that are
[11:10] Speaker 2: going in so women's organizations in Brisbane in Melbourne and
[11:16] Speaker 2: in Sydney.
[11:20] Speaker 1: All right, thank you. We're fucking honored to have to
[11:25] Speaker 1: be even associated somewhat with that, and we know that
[11:29] Speaker 1: it's not it's this whole fucking thing is bigger than us,
[11:31] Speaker 1: and we appreciate it.
[11:32] Speaker 2: It's really what. We're gonna have a man come out
[11:35] Speaker 2: and yell at us every night and then and then
[11:38] Speaker 2: you're going to have.
[11:39] Speaker 1: To it'll be Ben's. If it's Ben's, I can fucking
[11:41] Speaker 1: deal with it.
[11:42] Speaker 2: My husbands like a mustache and a bowler hat, like
[11:45] Speaker 2: this is shite. He'll be like, oh, better raise money, give.
[11:50] Speaker 1: Us money, I think, can we say? Someone was like, well,
[11:55] Speaker 1: I hope they they thought the money was going to me.
[11:59] Speaker 2: Because it was like we we love George, we love
[12:02] Speaker 2: you Georgia. They must have just checked the website and
[12:04] Speaker 2: immediately gotten off without reading anything. So they were like, well,
[12:08] Speaker 2: I hope she gives at least some of the money to.
[12:10] Speaker 1: The hurricane victims.
[12:11] Speaker 2: Were like, lady, lady.
[12:14] Speaker 1: That's what That's what this guy did. He checked the
[12:16] Speaker 1: thing really quick and he was like, Okay, I know
[12:18] Speaker 1: the story. I'm gonna scream at you.
[12:21] Speaker 2: Shite, and look, sometimes we are completely shite I.
[12:26] Speaker 1: Was so I was so distracted I never plucked the
[12:30] Speaker 1: hair still there. Yeah, I'm going to keep it as
[12:33] Speaker 1: a reminder.
[12:36] Speaker 2: And grow it so long. Speaking of facial hair, Okay,
[12:42] Speaker 2: do you want to see your friend Steven?
[12:44] Speaker 1: Yeah?
[12:46] Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah, friend Stephen, Stephen, I just want to
[13:00] Speaker 3: tell you too, because I feel very emotional tonight, that
[13:03] Speaker 3: we appreciate you too a lot and human good than
[13:06] Speaker 3: you do.
[13:06] Speaker 1: I love you, guys, I love you too.
[13:08] Speaker 2: We love you Stephen.
[13:09] Speaker 1: Yeah, we're always kidding when we're meine. Did you guys
[13:12] Speaker 1: know that?
[13:12] Speaker 2: Right? It's fun to yell at Stephen, but Stephen does
[13:16] Speaker 2: a lot of shit for us all the time, all
[13:18] Speaker 2: the time. Yeah, you love the yelling.
[13:22] Speaker 1: Yes, perfect, It's the perfect relationship, Hi, Stephen? All right,
[13:29] Speaker 1: bye bye. Should we talk about spanks or should we
[13:37] Speaker 1: sit down? Oh?
[13:41] Speaker 2: Dare you shoul? It's gonna go into a fifteen minute
[13:44] Speaker 2: spank's chunk and now I can't No. I felt like
[13:48] Speaker 2: there was one other thing I was gonna say that
[13:50] Speaker 2: it was about more. Oh, I guess it's just no,
[13:53] Speaker 2: it's just if I eat one more, tim Tam, I'm
[13:55] Speaker 2: gonna fucking explode. Huh, I s it is out of control.
[14:01] Speaker 1: Next time we are going to another country. Instead of
[14:04] Speaker 1: saying on the podcast, everyone bring us all your your
[14:07] Speaker 1: Chalky's and lollies. Yeah, I have since learned is the
[14:10] Speaker 1: thing snacks sneaks.
[14:13] Speaker 2: I'm gonna say kiwi, that's kiwi.
[14:15] Speaker 1: I'm just gonna say, bring us money for the hurricane.
[14:17] Speaker 2: Instead, bring us money for the hurricane straight into Georgia's
[14:21] Speaker 2: pocket bags.
[14:23] Speaker 1: You can give trap it whatever you want.
[14:26] Speaker 2: My favorite is that you guys call them lollies and Chalky's,
[14:31] Speaker 2: but then also you call heroin Audicts smackies. That's so cute.
[14:35] Speaker 2: That's something we found out from our driver, Wally. That
[14:38] Speaker 2: was one of my favorite things I've ever heard anyone say.
[14:41] Speaker 1: He kept calling us a hunt and he said, no, no,
[14:45] Speaker 1: it's when we like people, we call them cunts and
[14:46] Speaker 1: we're like, okay, that's true.
[14:51] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[14:52] Speaker 1: Like that clearly fixed me. So well, that's my favorite word.
[14:56] Speaker 1: Love it Okay?
[14:59] Speaker 2: Now yeah, oh what kind of are these high challenge chairs?
[15:07] Speaker 3: You did?
[15:12] Speaker 1: I wow?
[15:20] Speaker 2: Levels?
[15:20] Speaker 1: Levels?
[15:21] Speaker 2: This is our new podcast, Levels tell me everything, Mommy, mommy,
[15:31] Speaker 2: May I have some murder? I don't want to be
[15:34] Speaker 2: that Well that's a little crazy. Should I just tell
[15:36] Speaker 2: briefly the story of when I broke the chair.
[15:38] Speaker 1: Yeah, because it's so similar. But I wasn't going to
[15:40] Speaker 1: bring it up because like, that's not cool to your
[15:42] Speaker 1: like to your friend, Like when I told my mom
[15:44] Speaker 1: in public she needed to shave her nose hairs. That's
[15:47] Speaker 1: not cool.
[15:48] Speaker 2: It's not cool, and it's rude. Now I can't remember
[15:55] Speaker 2: if it was the first or second night there was
[15:57] Speaker 2: the first night. We've been on the road now for
[16:00] Speaker 2: I think forty days, not a.
[16:02] Speaker 1: Bit, and now I'm sinking and I'm not even touching
[16:05] Speaker 1: any Yeah, I think we've broken the chairs.
[16:07] Speaker 2: Sorry, yeah, fuck here, I'll just sit up.
[16:14] Speaker 1: We're a regular Larry Mowen Early.
[16:18] Speaker 2: We love physical comedy. It's our new thing.
[16:21] Speaker 1: We told you guys are at the top comedy comedy,
[16:24] Speaker 1: all right.
[16:25] Speaker 2: The first night we got here, George and I are
[16:26] Speaker 2: doing our makeup in the mirror as we do, just
[16:29] Speaker 2: piling it on for hours before the show starts, and
[16:36] Speaker 2: from my perspective, the room started to slant to the right,
[16:40] Speaker 2: and I didn't know why. I thought maybe it was
[16:43] Speaker 2: jet lag or a seizure or I was finally going
[16:48] Speaker 2: to die. And right as I turned to Georgia to say, like, hey,
[16:52] Speaker 2: is the room slanting to the right to you too?
[16:56] Speaker 2: The chair that I was sitting in just bent like
[16:59] Speaker 2: these legs under and I, in fucking straight up slow motion,
[17:05] Speaker 2: fell to the ground in the chair to the point
[17:10] Speaker 2: where when I landed, I was stuck in it against
[17:13] Speaker 2: the wall like I had been, like I was being
[17:16] Speaker 2: eaten by a giant clam uh.
[17:23] Speaker 1: Yeah. And then I went after her. I went after
[17:26] Speaker 1: to save her. But I'm a human, so I was
[17:28] Speaker 1: fucking cracking up the whole time, because who doesn't laugh
[17:31] Speaker 1: when someone falls? But you're still a good person, so
[17:34] Speaker 1: you still try to help.
[17:35] Speaker 2: She's underlining. I'll say this is what the help looked like.
[17:40] Speaker 2: It looked like this, Now you know what I think
[17:44] Speaker 2: I did.
[17:44] Speaker 1: I went to hug you because I could tell you
[17:46] Speaker 1: weren't hurt, so it was just gonna be like, oh God,
[17:50] Speaker 1: like nobody wants to a chair to break. But then
[17:53] Speaker 1: I noticed that the chair had like literally been like
[17:56] Speaker 1: like masking taped. Yeah.
[17:57] Speaker 2: Together, that's the story we're going with, masking tape chair. Yeah.
[18:05] Speaker 2: So I've been afraid of chairs ever since. Look, it's
[18:07] Speaker 2: been a hard tour. We've gone through a lot of shit.
[18:10] Speaker 1: If I look like I've been crying, it's because I
[18:12] Speaker 1: have allergies.
[18:14] Speaker 2: Now I've been crying.
[18:17] Speaker 1: So this is the portion where we talk about merder. Yes,
[18:21] Speaker 1: so if anyone only likes comedy, you can there is
[18:24] Speaker 1: a door. Please don't yell at me. I don't mean that.
[18:29] Speaker 1: Please don't yelling.
[18:29] Speaker 2: They're like, we had nothing to do with it. How
[18:32] Speaker 2: dare you.
[18:35] Speaker 1: I go first tonight? Right there? I didn't mean it
[18:38] Speaker 1: like that. Can I tell you that I'm about your
[18:40] Speaker 1: ear rings that someone gave me? Please? They say one
[18:43] Speaker 1: says c K and the other one says FU, And
[18:46] Speaker 1: if you put those two together the other way, it
[18:49] Speaker 1: says fuck.
[18:50] Speaker 2: It's really funny because there's that. And then someone also
[18:53] Speaker 2: gave me a little enamel pan that's a heart with
[18:56] Speaker 2: an arrow through it that says fuck off.
[18:59] Speaker 1: It's like they know you.
[19:00] Speaker 2: It's just they know me so well. It's so it's
[19:03] Speaker 2: I want all my jewelry to be rude to everyone
[19:06] Speaker 2: for no reason.
[19:12] Speaker 1: Oh so great, Oh my god, we're back. I'm sweating
[19:16] Speaker 1: thinking about this. It fucked me up for a long time.
[19:19] Speaker 1: I'm not gonna lie like even into this path. This
[19:21] Speaker 1: recent tour it's always on my mind. Oh yeah, when
[19:25] Speaker 1: I go on stage, you.
[19:26] Speaker 2: Know, I mean that experience, you know, stuff that's happened online,
[19:31] Speaker 2: like the exposure level and the vulnerability level, especially when
[19:35] Speaker 2: we perform live is I don't think people will understand
[19:38] Speaker 2: it because it is we've seen some real shit and
[19:42] Speaker 2: on that At that show especially, it just was like
[19:46] Speaker 2: we didn't understand what was happening and it just kept
[19:48] Speaker 2: going and so then people it was like the other
[19:50] Speaker 2: people in the audience were upset. The guy that was
[19:53] Speaker 2: heckling was upset. It was just this weird kind of
[19:56] Speaker 2: combination of things and it was very unexpect because we'd
[20:00] Speaker 2: been on this crazy It burst our bubble.
[20:03] Speaker 1: It totally burst our bubble. Yeah, but I don't want
[20:06] Speaker 1: to say it like it was all negative because the
[20:08] Speaker 1: Melbourne Murderinos did some amazing work after that and donated
[20:13] Speaker 1: a bunch of money.
[20:14] Speaker 2: It was very sweet. It was like there was a
[20:16] Speaker 2: whole thing happened on social media because people heard what happened,
[20:19] Speaker 2: and then people are like, what we want to know
[20:21] Speaker 2: and we want to hear and it's like it's fine,
[20:24] Speaker 2: it's fine. We just had to be like the you know,
[20:26] Speaker 2: the parents of it all were like it's fine and
[20:28] Speaker 2: we're fine and don't worry.
[20:30] Speaker 1: But then they were like not in our city kind
[20:32] Speaker 1: of a thing, and I respect that completely, and I like,
[20:35] Speaker 1: we're not never going to go back to Melbourne if
[20:37] Speaker 1: we go on tour again, So it's not like.
[20:39] Speaker 2: No, it was just a kind of It was a
[20:41] Speaker 2: person who didn't know where they were at a show,
[20:43] Speaker 2: going what the fuck am I watching? But they just
[20:46] Speaker 2: yelled it and felt like they had the right to
[20:48] Speaker 2: yell it, and that was you know, but you experienced
[20:52] Speaker 2: something like that, that's a real low. And then this
[20:54] Speaker 2: show was basically everybody in Australia that cared about our
[20:58] Speaker 2: podcast being like we are going to make it up
[21:01] Speaker 2: to you with good times energy, Like it was hilarious,
[21:07] Speaker 2: How fun.
[21:07] Speaker 1: That show was. It really was so many memories.
[21:10] Speaker 2: Oh yeah, we can say it's it was Denisa and
[21:13] Speaker 2: Nadine who started a oh yeah campaign against the Heckler
[21:17] Speaker 2: and raised nine thousand dollars for women's organizations in Brisbane,
[21:21] Speaker 2: Melbourne and Sydney. So fucking cool, just like legendary, that's
[21:25] Speaker 2: what this this community has been doing stuff like that,
[21:28] Speaker 2: like representing us this whole time, wasn't our idea. It's like,
[21:31] Speaker 2: do you think.
[21:31] Speaker 1: We have a larger contingency of listeners than other podcasts
[21:36] Speaker 1: or comedy live shows that are epileptic because we've had
[21:40] Speaker 1: so many people listen.
[21:42] Speaker 2: I'm gonna say, shut the fuck. No, I'm just kidding. No,
[21:46] Speaker 2: it's just if you tour enough, that shit happens. I mean,
[21:50] Speaker 2: like any comic can tell you the medical emergencies, Like
[21:56] Speaker 2: at the Irvine Improv. I was there one night when
[21:58] Speaker 2: something really medical emergency ish happened in the audience, and
[22:03] Speaker 2: it was such a big club that I didn't realize
[22:05] Speaker 2: it was happening until like they were taking the person out.
[22:09] Speaker 2: It's such a it's just a weird thing. It does
[22:11] Speaker 2: happen a lot.
[22:13] Speaker 1: Epileptic Murderina's Unite. We support you.
[22:16] Speaker 2: Fainters and barfers, get up here, this is your podcast.
[22:20] Speaker 2: We love you.
[22:21] Speaker 1: All right, should we get into it, Let's do it.
[22:24] Speaker 2: This first story is Georgia's story about Aunt Sally Caroline Girls.
[22:36] Speaker 1: So which is what's really fun? After all that I have,
[22:40] Speaker 1: I get to go first tonight.
[22:41] Speaker 2: Yeah, so right back on. They love it, they want it.
[22:47] Speaker 2: They love it and want it.
[22:48] Speaker 1: I found an old one, so that nobody here remembers
[22:51] Speaker 1: it happening, or is is directly related to the people
[22:55] Speaker 1: it happened to. You don't know, I don't know.
[22:58] Speaker 2: Anything could happen. We're in a foreign country. Anything could happen.
[23:03] Speaker 1: It's true, it's true.
[23:05] Speaker 2: Also, these chairs are going down. I can tell.
[23:08] Speaker 1: Are we on the same Okay?
[23:11] Speaker 2: I think we are?
[23:11] Speaker 1: Yeah? This has starting to feel like a Charlie Rose situation.
[23:15] Speaker 2: Isn't it.
[23:16] Speaker 1: Yeah? All right, okay, yeah, this is the You know
[23:23] Speaker 1: what I keep doing is I keep writing the name
[23:26] Speaker 1: of the story in as the dock name, and I
[23:29] Speaker 1: forget to put it on the top of my paper.
[23:32] Speaker 1: So then I'm like, I guess this is the story
[23:34] Speaker 1: of anti anti Thally, Yeah, Anti Thally or poisoner. I
[23:41] Speaker 1: fucking gave away the beginning. All right, all right, Carolyn
[23:47] Speaker 1: Girls born in eighteen eighty eight. Should I pretend that
[23:50] Speaker 1: I don't know it's a poisoner?
[23:51] Speaker 2: Yes?
[23:51] Speaker 1: Okay, because you don't know.
[23:54] Speaker 2: I mean she could have been lying the whole time.
[23:56] Speaker 1: Yeah, Carolyn Girls born in eighteen eighty eight. So nobody
[24:00] Speaker 1: was her bff as a kid here.
[24:03] Speaker 2: You don't know.
[24:05] Speaker 1: Ballmainval Maine Valmaane you mean exactly how it's spelled. I'm
[24:14] Speaker 1: trying to get creative, and.
[24:15] Speaker 2: It's well right, because when it's spelled and it looks
[24:18] Speaker 2: like you know how to pronounce it, then you say
[24:21] Speaker 2: it and everyone's like it's bon day or whatever. That
[24:24] Speaker 2: fucking beach is called stupid just because it's internationally known
[24:30] Speaker 2: and insaneley famous and so gorgeous. When we flew in
[24:33] Speaker 2: on that plane this morning, I was like, ooh, it's
[24:36] Speaker 2: like wrong vacage.
[24:37] Speaker 1: I know, create a lot of homework, okay. April nineteen
[24:43] Speaker 1: oh eight, at eighteen, she marries Richard William Grills, hence
[24:47] Speaker 1: her last name. He's a laborer. They have five sons
[24:50] Speaker 1: and a daughter, and then in uh so she's a
[24:52] Speaker 1: bunch of kids. In nineteen forty eight, Carolyn inherited and
[24:56] Speaker 1: moved into her father's home in Bladesville. Thank you, thank you.
[25:03] Speaker 1: I'm like a kidner gardener and wants a plasma.
[25:07] Speaker 2: Peepees or whatever.
[25:10] Speaker 1: She's known as Anti Carrie by her extensive family. She's
[25:13] Speaker 1: a sure okay, here's howthing fucking I'll tell.
[25:15] Speaker 2: You later, okay, like backstage.
[25:18] Speaker 1: Yeah, she's an older one. She's an old woman because
[25:20] Speaker 1: sixty eight is old. Then, actually, let's have a photo
[25:24] Speaker 1: of her, because she looks this is her, I know,
[25:28] Speaker 1: kitty right, fun looks like your grandma.
[25:30] Speaker 2: She looks. God, she has great teeth, she really does,
[25:34] Speaker 2: really nice teeth.
[25:35] Speaker 1: Nice teeth. She looks like she could be my mom's mom,
[25:39] Speaker 1: and my mom is older than her. Because like, back then,
[25:42] Speaker 1: it was like you're done, yeah, like fifty.
[25:46] Speaker 2: Back then it was like you're seventeen, you have your
[25:48] Speaker 2: six children, yeah, and then you immediately look like that.
[25:52] Speaker 2: There was no preventative creams back then.
[25:55] Speaker 1: Cold cream all over the place. Yeah, okay, a lot
[25:59] Speaker 1: of dust. So she frequently visited her in laws and friends,
[26:04] Speaker 1: making tea cakes and biscuits for them. Uh oh, no,
[26:08] Speaker 1: don't say uh uh oh. Remember the poisoner at the
[26:11] Speaker 1: top of this thing. Guess who it is.
[26:14] Speaker 2: It's great teeth, Johnson bug.
[26:19] Speaker 1: Oh you know what her last name is Grills. She's
[26:22] Speaker 1: got a great grill. Thank you.
[26:28] Speaker 2: This is the joy of comedy. This is what it
[26:31] Speaker 2: can be like. Wait a second, is it grills like
[26:34] Speaker 2: bear grills? The guy that fucking climbs all over the place,
[26:37] Speaker 2: No survive.
[26:38] Speaker 1: No, why isn't he a why? Yeah, he is a grill,
[26:40] Speaker 1: like straight up grill.
[26:41] Speaker 2: Oh great, legit grill?
[26:44] Speaker 1: Yeah, no fucking round. Yeah. In nineteen forty seven, her
[26:49] Speaker 1: eighty seven year old stepmother, Christine Mickelson, becomes ill with
[26:53] Speaker 1: symptoms of hair loss, nervous disorders, progressive liness, and lost
[26:58] Speaker 1: the speech and eventually dies under Aunt Carrie's care. Throughout
[27:04] Speaker 1: nineteen forty one and forty two, various family members become ill,
[27:07] Speaker 1: including a bunch of family members, but all survive. Then,
[27:13] Speaker 1: in January nineteen forty eight, a relation of her husband,
[27:17] Speaker 1: Angela Thomas, also becomes ill and dies of the same symptoms,
[27:20] Speaker 1: followed by her husband's brother in law. So, I guess's
[27:24] Speaker 1: her brother in law?
[27:24] Speaker 2: Right, yeah, it would be her brother. Her husband's brother
[27:29] Speaker 2: in law is her brother?
[27:30] Speaker 1: No? Could it could be her husband's sisters sister's husband
[27:36] Speaker 1: right No, Okay, listen, nobody remembers us, so we're changing it. Yeah,
[27:42] Speaker 1: So whatever we want.
[27:44] Speaker 2: If you care, go on to ancestry dot com and
[27:47] Speaker 2: figure it out yourself.
[27:52] Speaker 1: Okay. John Lundberg he dies in late forty eight, and
[27:56] Speaker 1: one of her stepmother's friends and sister in law, I'm
[28:00] Speaker 1: not going to go there, Mary Ann Nicholson dies the
[28:02] Speaker 1: following year, but presumably Auntie Carrie goes on making cakes,
[28:08] Speaker 1: Auntie and shit until I wrote that cakes and tangent
[28:11] Speaker 1: until September nineteen fifty two. Yvonne Fletcher, a housewife and
[28:17] Speaker 1: mother of two from the Inner City, Inner sub Sydney
[28:20] Speaker 1: suburb of Newton, is charge new Town, new Town.
[28:27] Speaker 2: It's Newton.
[28:28] Speaker 1: We don't have him.
[28:29] Speaker 2: Can't turn into a call in response of town names.
[28:33] Speaker 2: It's insane. Cat cheer was insane.
[28:37] Speaker 1: Can I remind everyone that I got yelled at last
[28:39] Speaker 1: night and I cried, So I'm gonna be on edge
[28:43] Speaker 1: a little bit, and that includes pronouncing shit wrong. Let's
[28:46] Speaker 1: just pretend that that's why I'm doing that.
[28:48] Speaker 2: That's why they were like a fucking football stadium just
[28:51] Speaker 2: now cheering for that correct town name pronunciation.
[28:54] Speaker 1: I made peep in the potty. We supplor cakes and cheese.
[29:05] Speaker 1: New Town, you know, yep every time. Now was charged
[29:10] Speaker 1: and tried for the murders of Boat. So this chick
[29:12] Speaker 1: fucking turns out kills both of her husbands with this
[29:16] Speaker 1: poison called thallium. So it's a rat bait poison because
[29:22] Speaker 1: rats were fucking everywhere in Sydney after World War two.
[29:25] Speaker 1: They were one point two million rats just in Sydney,
[29:28] Speaker 1: woo and from and.
[29:30] Speaker 2: So give it up for red. And then.
[29:38] Speaker 1: So there was this rat bait and there was like
[29:39] Speaker 1: put it in put it in bread and sprinkle it
[29:41] Speaker 1: around your house and you'll kill.
[29:43] Speaker 2: Rats like babies are crying.
[29:45] Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, but it was this crazy poison and people
[29:49] Speaker 1: were like, oh, you can buy it at the store.
[29:52] Speaker 1: I'm pissed at my two husbands. And then they say
[29:55] Speaker 1: that at least fifty five people were poisoned by thalli,
[30:00] Speaker 1: kind of which died as far as they know, because
[30:03] Speaker 1: they weren't doing toxicology shit back then, right, because it
[30:06] Speaker 1: was almost untraceable you mean by her no, no, no, no,
[30:10] Speaker 1: like in general. And so this one case got really
[30:13] Speaker 1: big and m mmmm and then okay, okay, and it
[30:20] Speaker 1: caused symptoms or fallI and poisoning were loss of hair,
[30:23] Speaker 1: nervous disorders, progressive blindness, lost of speech, organ failure, and
[30:26] Speaker 1: eventual death. Remember that from the beginning, Yes, oh my god,
[30:31] Speaker 1: are you putting it together?
[30:32] Speaker 2: I kind of am. It feels like someone's a poisoner.
[30:36] Speaker 1: I think we have another photo just for the fuck
[30:37] Speaker 1: of it. Let's see. That's when she got arrested. Never
[30:41] Speaker 1: mind spoiler alert, that's that time she.
[30:46] Speaker 2: Put ah, look at that stressed Stephen.
[30:49] Speaker 1: I didn't tell you to put that up.
[30:51] Speaker 2: Wait was that hurt?
[30:53] Speaker 1: Yeah?
[30:54] Speaker 2: That was a good dress. I'm sorry.
[30:57] Speaker 1: Don't be sorry, be happy. Okay. Because of the widespread
[31:02] Speaker 1: media coverage, so this chick kills a bunch of people,
[31:05] Speaker 1: it gets all over the papers. A dude named John Downey,
[31:08] Speaker 1: who's related to Aunt our friend Aunt Carrie, read the
[31:12] Speaker 1: story in a newspaper and was like, hmm, those sound
[31:15] Speaker 1: like really familiar symptoms that I've had myself when I
[31:19] Speaker 1: hung out and ate Anti Carrey's cakes and shit. Uh
[31:22] Speaker 1: oh and his his aunt or something is a long
[31:29] Speaker 1: time ago. Evelyn Lundberg also had all these symptoms and
[31:32] Speaker 1: she had even gone blind. Wow.
[31:34] Speaker 2: So but she didn't die.
[31:36] Speaker 1: No, So on May eleventh, that's my birthday. Oh shit,
[31:40] Speaker 1: that's right, that's okay. We always have to do that,
[31:45] Speaker 1: even in the middle of them. Not this, but like
[31:46] Speaker 1: a like a word.
[31:50] Speaker 2: So when I said, Stephen, some horrible thing that had
[31:53] Speaker 2: a date on it the other day, it was like,
[31:54] Speaker 2: and this is the day this person was decapitate, and
[31:57] Speaker 2: he was like, my birthday.
[32:00] Speaker 1: You just can't help yourself.
[32:02] Speaker 2: You know, they got decaptated eighty eight years ago on
[32:04] Speaker 2: my birthday.
[32:05] Speaker 1: Yeah, I wonder what I was doing that day. Okay,
[32:10] Speaker 1: So he goes over to Aunt Carrie's house and is
[32:13] Speaker 1: like super suspicious of her. She's bringing tea and cakes
[32:16] Speaker 1: and stuff out, and he sees her takes something out
[32:19] Speaker 1: of her pocket and put it in the tea. So
[32:21] Speaker 1: he becomes a street magician and switches around switch witch
[32:25] Speaker 1: witch which which takes the tea that he saw her lace,
[32:30] Speaker 1: pours it in what I'm assuming is a bottle I
[32:32] Speaker 1: don't know, and fucking takes it home with him, brings
[32:35] Speaker 1: it to the police and they test it. Whoa vallely poison,
[32:39] Speaker 1: isn't it? Shocker? Shocking? Nobody saw that one coming. So
[32:47] Speaker 1: then they also take her beautiful house dress and there's
[32:51] Speaker 1: they find traces of famium in the pockets.
[32:54] Speaker 2: Oh so fucket, little belly.
[32:56] Speaker 1: Yeah, don't ruin house stresses for us, please, sole have
[33:01] Speaker 1: you can put so much shit in house dress? Oh
[33:03] Speaker 1: my god. A corner's inquest a bunch of witnesses recalled
[33:08] Speaker 1: her bringing them drinks and how eager she was to
[33:11] Speaker 1: help preparing food and I'll do it.
[33:13] Speaker 2: I got it, I got it. I want to kill everybody.
[33:17] Speaker 1: Nobody wants to help in the kitchen. It's the thing
[33:20] Speaker 1: you offer and hope people are like no, no, I
[33:21] Speaker 1: got it. Yeah, so you should be suspicious to someone
[33:24] Speaker 1: who is like, you know, it's like, no, you don't.
[33:26] Speaker 2: The game's on? What are you doing?
[33:28] Speaker 1: Yeah? Calm down, go eat? Uh what do they have?
[33:31] Speaker 1: They'll eat? Dip? Okay. So, at sixty three years old,
[33:36] Speaker 1: she's arrested in charge with the attempted murder of her
[33:38] Speaker 1: sister in law who's now blind and her daughter her
[33:42] Speaker 1: the sister in law's daughter niece both huh, thank you.
[33:49] Speaker 2: I'm I'm big picturing. You're in the details and I'm
[33:53] Speaker 2: out here watching all of it.
[33:55] Speaker 1: You didn't read eighteen articles and copy of sure did it?
[33:58] Speaker 3: No?
[33:59] Speaker 2: This is all new to me.
[34:00] Speaker 1: Yeah hmm okay. So she's arrested and they all investigators
[34:08] Speaker 1: also exhumed a bunch of those bodies from before, and
[34:12] Speaker 1: they found traces of thallium in two of them, and
[34:15] Speaker 1: the others had been cremated so they couldn't be tested.
[34:17] Speaker 1: So the corner found her, uh responsible for several deaths.
[34:22] Speaker 2: Can they do that that's how they used to do.
[34:25] Speaker 1: It, I think back then. Okay, yeah, she okay, there's
[34:29] Speaker 1: a book never mind she I know, I'm not gonna
[34:32] Speaker 1: remember it. It's called the Dictionary the Bible.
[34:37] Speaker 2: What's that book?
[34:39] Speaker 1: Uh?
[34:39] Speaker 2: Did Vinci code?
[34:41] Speaker 1: That's it?
[34:42] Speaker 2: That's there, it is.
[34:43] Speaker 1: She's charged with the murders and of Mary Michelson who
[34:47] Speaker 1: was sixty, Christina Michelson, who was eighty seven, and Angelina Thompson,
[34:52] Speaker 1: who was eighty four, and at her trial she professed
[34:55] Speaker 1: her innocence. She said police had pressured her relatives to
[34:58] Speaker 1: convict her the ones that were still living, yeah, and
[35:05] Speaker 1: that she quote, helped to live, not to kill. Yeah. Yeah,
[35:12] Speaker 1: I helped people live. I didn't kill them. Yeah.
[35:16] Speaker 2: And yet they're dead.
[35:17] Speaker 1: Yeah. And then she was laughing at half the trial.
[35:23] Speaker 1: She was just like a little nuts. Yeah.
[35:27] Speaker 2: She was excited to be out in her house dress.
[35:29] Speaker 1: Sure. And in the end the cases are dropped and
[35:34] Speaker 1: she's only convicted on the attempted murder of missus Lendbergh
[35:38] Speaker 1: So the woman who went blind in October nineteen fifty three.
[35:41] Speaker 2: Because they could basically only do what deal with what
[35:44] Speaker 2: it was happening to the survivors.
[35:46] Speaker 1: I guess yes, yeah, I'm sorry.
[35:50] Speaker 2: What was the time for? Like, was it over years
[35:52] Speaker 2: that she was doing?
[35:53] Speaker 1: It started in nineteen forty something, say seven, let's go seven.
[36:01] Speaker 1: I think forty one is when it started. But somehow
[36:05] Speaker 1: in nineteen fifty three okay, and so another one in
[36:08] Speaker 1: nineteen fifty three, Bob Lullam. He's an Australian rugby football
[36:13] Speaker 1: fucking player. But like Star, I was waving my arms
[36:19] Speaker 1: in the air. How did you get that referee?
[36:22] Speaker 2: You know?
[36:23] Speaker 1: No, like big this is big time, This is big
[36:26] Speaker 1: timer Star.
[36:27] Speaker 2: Okay, now I know.
[36:28] Speaker 1: Yeah, I just.
[36:29] Speaker 2: Have to say this if just as a sidebar. The
[36:32] Speaker 2: first day we got here, I turned the TV on
[36:35] Speaker 2: in my hotel room and there was a rugby game.
[36:37] Speaker 2: Oh my god? Yeah have you ever seen that shit?
[36:39] Speaker 2: You guys, Oh my god.
[36:42] Speaker 1: Yeah, they pulled each other, big.
[36:44] Speaker 2: Boys just pulling on each other.
[36:48] Speaker 1: It's crazy.
[36:50] Speaker 2: Yeah, hot stups. Mute that shit keeping on in the background.
[36:58] Speaker 2: That's nice. Congratulate sense you gets that all the time.
[37:02] Speaker 2: I'd never, I had never. I didn't realize I was
[37:05] Speaker 2: such a fan.
[37:08] Speaker 1: See it scared me, it did, Yeah, why because I'm
[37:11] Speaker 1: scared of everything everything?
[37:14] Speaker 2: How about a nice big thigh.
[37:24] Speaker 1: I know what that mine was kyles and thighs. So
[37:29] Speaker 1: much sweat.
[37:32] Speaker 2: That's bad for you.
[37:34] Speaker 1: Sweat and thighs not my thing. Yes, yes, and yes,
[37:39] Speaker 1: it's like we're two different people.
[37:41] Speaker 2: I mean we seem to be different.
[37:45] Speaker 1: Okay. So this dude's mother in law tried to poison
[37:48] Speaker 1: who he was having a sexual relationship with.
[37:52] Speaker 2: What reclarify this.
[37:54] Speaker 1: The mother in law is correct in this part. His
[37:58] Speaker 1: wife's hot mom. I wish I didn't. No, don't look
[38:03] Speaker 1: over there. His wife's hot mom and he were hooking up?
[38:08] Speaker 1: What and she tried to poison him. She was like,
[38:10] Speaker 1: you're cheating on my daughter. I'm putting poison you. I'm
[38:12] Speaker 1: making this part up. I'm guessing that's what the thing is. Yeah,
[38:16] Speaker 1: he was like, but also it's with me. I don't
[38:18] Speaker 1: know the logic here. Shit, yeah, everything, I mean thighs,
[38:25] Speaker 1: that's my present. He lives and uh soon afterwards Thallian
[38:32] Speaker 1: this band from sale. So the jury deliberated for our aunt,
[38:38] Speaker 1: our aunt over here. She sentenced to death and later
[38:41] Speaker 1: commuted to life in prison. She becomes known as Aunt
[38:43] Speaker 1: Thali in prison Anti Thallly in prison. It sounds like,
[38:49] Speaker 1: like in a loving way. I think the other inmates
[38:52] Speaker 1: liked her.
[38:53] Speaker 2: It also sounds like they're trying to say Aunt Sally,
[38:56] Speaker 2: but they have a lisp, or they're a five year
[39:00] Speaker 2: old child in prison.
[39:03] Speaker 1: She in nineteen sixty. She died in of you know
[39:08] Speaker 1: old stuff, yep, less than seven years after her trial.
[39:13] Speaker 1: In the end, nobody fucking knows her motives, and people
[39:17] Speaker 1: thought it was revenge or envy or anger. And the
[39:23] Speaker 1: dude said seven people were recipients of charity and kindness
[39:27] Speaker 1: from Aunt Carrie and they all died or suffered the
[39:31] Speaker 1: nasty effects of thallium poisoning. She had maybe financial benefitsu
[39:36] Speaker 1: to games, sometimes none, and no one ever fucking figured
[39:38] Speaker 1: out her motives. Wow, so that's our friend Aunt Sali.
[39:41] Speaker 2: Wow, Aunt fallI Aunt Sally.
[39:44] Speaker 1: Thanks, yah man, I gotta get my allergies taken care of.
[39:55] Speaker 2: This sound guy almost shot his pants just now, Stephen,
[40:01] Speaker 2: Steve and you broke the mic. Well that was crazy. Okay,
[40:10] Speaker 2: we're back. Are there updates for this story?
[40:12] Speaker 1: There are no updates? And you know what else, Let's
[40:14] Speaker 1: just fucking get into your epic classic. This is a classic.
[40:19] Speaker 1: And then my favorite murder Marvel universe.
[40:22] Speaker 2: I was so afraid you had already found this story
[40:25] Speaker 2: and that you would like that. Basically, I was waiting
[40:28] Speaker 2: for when you were doing your story, hoping to god
[40:30] Speaker 2: it wasn't this story.
[40:31] Speaker 1: Just like then. And then they found and then Aunt
[40:33] Speaker 1: Sally found a shark. Oh that's right, an arm by
[40:37] Speaker 1: a shark. Okay, this is Karen's story of the shark
[40:41] Speaker 1: arm murder.
[40:49] Speaker 2: Mine is similarly old and similarly crazy. I'm gonna do
[40:56] Speaker 2: the shark arm murders.
[40:57] Speaker 1: Yeah, man, I was so bummed today when I text Steven, hey,
[41:03] Speaker 1: can I do the shark arm murders? Get out of
[41:05] Speaker 1: town and it's off limits? Sorry, And when you see
[41:08] Speaker 1: that when you're like, yes, such a bummer. Yeah, because
[41:12] Speaker 1: we have to check with him to make sure the
[41:13] Speaker 1: other one isn't doing it, because we don't know what
[41:15] Speaker 1: murders we're doing, except for tonight, when I know what
[41:16] Speaker 1: Karen's doing. Uh.
[41:18] Speaker 2: Well, it also the car. She goes, you're doing my
[41:20] Speaker 2: backup murder, just like it's my front up murder.
[41:25] Speaker 1: Girl.
[41:27] Speaker 2: You just make a list of twenty murders, you're like, sorry,
[41:30] Speaker 2: that's mine. You took it, that's mine. Well, this one
[41:33] Speaker 2: is I have to say, I think of all the
[41:36] Speaker 2: murders I've ever read or done, it just has so
[41:41] Speaker 2: much shit going on. That's so uh, it's it's beyond
[41:48] Speaker 2: And yet.
[41:49] Speaker 1: I actually I didn't. I just saw a shark arm
[41:52] Speaker 1: murder and I was like, com I do that, and
[41:53] Speaker 1: so I don't know a lot about it.
[41:54] Speaker 2: Oh really, Yeah, you just looked at the title.
[41:56] Speaker 1: So I'm gonna I'm gonna sit back then.
[41:59] Speaker 2: That wouldn't be if it do it. Oh, I'm gonna
[42:02] Speaker 2: sit back now and then tip it this way and
[42:06] Speaker 2: then fall, flatten it down, roll yourself up in the rug.
[42:14] Speaker 2: It's really funny because this somewhere along the line, this
[42:17] Speaker 2: rug got put into our writers, like this is the
[42:19] Speaker 2: stage design for us, and that means that everywhere we go,
[42:23] Speaker 2: somebody has to buy your rug. Yeah, and I'm like
[42:27] Speaker 2: carry it around all the time.
[42:28] Speaker 1: And someone gets like at the venue is like, well
[42:31] Speaker 1: we don't have a rug. We're really mad at us.
[42:33] Speaker 2: Yeah, We're like, we're sorry about the rug, and we're
[42:35] Speaker 2: just like, you don't care a fuck about the rug.
[42:40] Speaker 1: Anyway.
[42:41] Speaker 2: That was just a bit of a behind the scenes
[42:44] Speaker 2: It's for you tonight, rug.
[42:46] Speaker 1: Tonight, you guys get to know all the shit.
[42:48] Speaker 2: Tonight to night No okay, April seventeenth, Thank you, nineteen
[42:54] Speaker 2: thirty five. A fisherman hooks a small shark off of
[42:58] Speaker 2: what I'm imagining to be pronounced Coogie beach.
[43:03] Speaker 1: Now yeah, by the laughter, I'm gonna.
[43:07] Speaker 2: Guess no, Kuchi Kuci Beach. Could oh, I see this
[43:16] Speaker 2: is a sexy country Kucci beach.
[43:22] Speaker 1: All right, you guys said it.
[43:24] Speaker 2: I mean, okay, listen to this shit. This fisherman catches
[43:33] Speaker 2: a shark right kind of small, and as he's reeling
[43:36] Speaker 2: the small shark in, a huge shark jumps up and
[43:41] Speaker 2: eats the smaller shark. And so then the fisherman holds
[43:45] Speaker 2: the huge shark in a lie.
[43:47] Speaker 1: Wow, this is a ship that would go fucking viral
[43:50] Speaker 1: if he had.
[43:50] Speaker 2: A camera back then, can you imagine? Yes, that Kuci
[43:54] Speaker 2: Beach fisherman would.
[43:55] Speaker 1: Be Bill Janaire.
[43:56] Speaker 2: Yeah, he'd bet the YouTube convention. Yeah okay, so that alone,
[44:05] Speaker 2: we're in again. If this was a movie and that's
[44:08] Speaker 2: the first scene, you're not leaving that seat. You're like,
[44:11] Speaker 2: whoever this director is, you're my favorite artist of all time?
[44:14] Speaker 1: Like what that wouldn't happen? No?
[44:17] Speaker 2: Oh, oh my God, I can't believe I caught it
[44:19] Speaker 2: such a small shark. Holy shit, jaws is here. So
[44:24] Speaker 2: what they do is, it's almost it's coming up on
[44:30] Speaker 2: Anzac Day and Anzac Day in Australia is it basically
[44:36] Speaker 2: is honors all the soldiers that went off to World
[44:38] Speaker 2: War One from New Zealand and from Australia, and it's
[44:41] Speaker 2: a big holiday. It's a big holiday weekend. So in
[44:44] Speaker 2: nineteen thirty five, the Cuccie Aquarium baths. Oh do we
[44:51] Speaker 2: have the picture of the Cuchie Aquarium, Bass Steven, We do.
[44:54] Speaker 2: So they were like, uh, it was like a big
[44:58] Speaker 2: fancy complex.
[44:59] Speaker 1: Hold on, I see the word refreshments. Yeah, I see
[45:03] Speaker 1: the word rooms. I see the words boiling water.
[45:07] Speaker 2: Oh oh yeah. They had so much boiling water there.
[45:11] Speaker 2: What was awesome.
[45:14] Speaker 1: I wonder what the refreshments were.
[45:17] Speaker 2: It was boiling water. You could have all the boiling
[45:20] Speaker 2: water you could drink, but you had to drink it
[45:23] Speaker 2: right by the stove while it was boiling. So that's
[45:26] Speaker 2: why they weren't doing very good business. No, not really. Okay,
[45:32] Speaker 2: So there's ben shark attacks on all along the coast,
[45:37] Speaker 2: and in nineteenth thirty five, in the end of February.
[45:40] Speaker 2: In the beginning of March, three different young men were
[45:44] Speaker 2: killed by sharks on the coast, so they had people
[45:47] Speaker 2: out trying to catch and kill sharks all the time.
[45:50] Speaker 2: They were like, guys, just leave them alone, en, I mean,
[45:52] Speaker 2: number what what sharks?
[45:54] Speaker 1: Yes, stand fucking ocean. I love that where they're like,
[45:59] Speaker 1: we're going to take care of the shark problem by
[46:02] Speaker 1: killing three sharks or whatever. The like, there's so many more.
[46:07] Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly, you kind of it's it's a hard one
[46:09] Speaker 2: to solve when they've been around for eighty million years.
[46:12] Speaker 1: And they don't need to change because they're perfect fucking
[46:15] Speaker 1: mond killing machines, preaching.
[46:17] Speaker 2: They have so many rows of teeth. Oh my god.
[46:20] Speaker 1: Steve and I.
[46:21] Speaker 2: Started getting into this thing today. He started sending me
[46:23] Speaker 2: pictures the sharks with human teeth. Those it's the best
[46:28] Speaker 2: thing of all time because when they're a picture, No,
[46:31] Speaker 2: I don't think so you don't have one, Stephen. I
[46:33] Speaker 2: mean you could just imagine it's like a jar, like
[46:35] Speaker 2: it's a shark picture coming at you with the crazy
[46:38] Speaker 2: fucking pointed teeth. Rose Rose Rose. But instead of that,
[46:42] Speaker 2: it's like Taylor Swift's teeth. So it's like it's like,
[46:46] Speaker 2: oh my god, I need a se fucking hilarious. Anyway,
[46:50] Speaker 2: we had a great time guys. So anyway, the owner
[46:54] Speaker 2: of the Kouchi Baths was like, business is slow because
[46:58] Speaker 2: there's been these shark. But we've got this big holiday.
[47:02] Speaker 1: Weekend coming up.
[47:03] Speaker 2: I'm gonna get that big ass shark that that guy
[47:05] Speaker 2: just caught stick him in inside the baths. Can you
[47:09] Speaker 2: show the inside? It's still alive. So they decide they're
[47:13] Speaker 2: going to put it. So that's the baths. It's all
[47:15] Speaker 2: salt water. The salt water's coming in from the ocean,
[47:18] Speaker 2: and wh people go and swim in salt water. They
[47:21] Speaker 2: have the same thing in San Francisco's Sutro baths. It
[47:23] Speaker 2: was right on the coast. Okay, so steven. So they
[47:27] Speaker 2: take the shark and they put it in the in
[47:29] Speaker 2: the pool so people can come pay money and look
[47:32] Speaker 2: at the thing that's killing people in the water.
[47:35] Speaker 1: Can they say that with him?
[47:39] Speaker 2: You know, people just stood around and see he's pretty big.
[47:42] Speaker 2: He's pretty big. He was what you like to say
[47:46] Speaker 2: down here, uh four meters long and one ton with
[47:55] Speaker 2: two ends in an e what a measurement.
[48:00] Speaker 1: So this poor shark is.
[48:05] Speaker 2: So at first when he's there, he's there for a week.
[48:08] Speaker 2: In the beginning, he's swimming around, everyone's freaking out, paying money,
[48:10] Speaker 2: and everything's working out great. But after a week the
[48:14] Speaker 2: shark starts acting strangely. It's moving slowly, it seems disoriented,
[48:18] Speaker 2: it seems sick. And then on Anzac Day, at four
[48:22] Speaker 2: point thirty pm, there's a small crowd in the baths
[48:26] Speaker 2: watching the shark, and the shark goes into a frenzy.
[48:30] Speaker 2: And then, as it's quoted here, I got all this
[48:33] Speaker 2: information from the Sydney Crime Museum website and the Dictionaryofsydney
[48:37] Speaker 2: dot org, and of course our Wikipedia starts to go crazy.
[48:44] Speaker 2: And then it starts vomiting copiously, is the quote. And
[48:49] Speaker 2: out of its stomach come a rat, a rat, a rat,
[48:54] Speaker 2: a bird, the remains of the smaller shark that he
[48:58] Speaker 2: ate earlier. And then a big surprise, a severed human arm.
[49:05] Speaker 2: So those people standing around at the Kuci bath, they're okay,
[49:09] Speaker 2: there's the arm.
[49:11] Speaker 1: No, yeah, but look at his dukes, his tattoos dukes
[49:15] Speaker 1: are up.
[49:15] Speaker 2: Well, here's the thing. The arm has a very distinctive
[49:18] Speaker 2: tattoo of two boxers warming up together, two boxers boxing arm.
[49:25] Speaker 1: We need to each get that. Should we get it?
[49:28] Speaker 2: I get one boxer and you get the other? Or
[49:30] Speaker 2: should we get a tattoo of a severed arm with
[49:32] Speaker 2: boxers on the arm?
[49:34] Speaker 1: You know someone has that somewhere, I hope.
[49:36] Speaker 2: So Okay, So now I'm only halfway down the first
[49:42] Speaker 2: page of the story. That's all I'd like to say.
[49:45] Speaker 2: Right now, We've already got a double shark attack. And
[49:49] Speaker 2: then the shark barfs in front of everybody, a paying audience,
[49:53] Speaker 2: which I would have loved. Ann he barfs up a
[49:57] Speaker 2: human arm. So they call the police. They get the
[50:00] Speaker 2: arm out of the pool, they take it to inspect it,
[50:05] Speaker 2: and they notice that it is not the remnants of
[50:09] Speaker 2: the shark having eaten a person, because the arm has
[50:13] Speaker 2: been severed, not bitten.
[50:14] Speaker 1: I didn't know.
[50:15] Speaker 2: Yeah, So now they know something's going on and they
[50:19] Speaker 2: have to look into it.
[50:20] Speaker 1: Okay.
[50:20] Speaker 2: So then they take the arm down to the police station.
[50:24] Speaker 2: I'm assuming I'm not. They fingerprint the hand of the arm.
[50:27] Speaker 1: Oh my god, huh, and.
[50:31] Speaker 2: They find out that it belongs to a Billiard former boxer,
[50:38] Speaker 2: Billiard's Tall owner and small time criminal Jim Smith, who
[50:41] Speaker 2: had been missing since April seventh?
[50:44] Speaker 1: How long was that.
[50:47] Speaker 2: To? April twenty fifth is Anzac Day? So you do
[50:51] Speaker 2: the math. I can't. Smith also lived in bal Main.
[50:57] Speaker 4: Hey, look, listen, look and listen and spell your cities correctly.
[51:12] Speaker 2: We just I think everywhere we go we're gonna have
[51:14] Speaker 2: to sit down with a native for like two hours
[51:18] Speaker 2: before we go out on stage.
[51:19] Speaker 1: Two minutes. Really, I mean, we don't need to take
[51:23] Speaker 1: that much time. We get to ask a person at
[51:26] Speaker 1: the front desk of the hotel.
[51:27] Speaker 2: Cut into that mascara time for just a little bit,
[51:30] Speaker 2: how do we say this word?
[51:32] Speaker 1: Okay, got it? And then we do things correctly at
[51:35] Speaker 1: the show.
[51:36] Speaker 2: Listen, Jim Smith lived in that town with his wife
[51:39] Speaker 2: and child, and we're just going to start saying. That
[51:42] Speaker 2: town and his billiards hall, as they were back then,
[51:46] Speaker 2: was a quote seedy type of place where vice flourished.
[51:50] Speaker 2: Sounds fun, fun, lots of rugby. So Jim Smith was
[51:56] Speaker 2: also a police informant or what they call a fizz
[51:59] Speaker 2: gig or fizzer that's you, guys, is not precious like okay.
[52:04] Speaker 2: So they look into his situation and they find that
[52:10] Speaker 2: either it is Billiard's Hall or the other place he works,
[52:12] Speaker 2: which was called the Tattersalls Club. He had fell in
[52:16] Speaker 2: with a criminal, doing business with a criminal named Reginald Holmes.
[52:20] Speaker 2: Let's take a look at Reginald Homes. He's a classic
[52:23] Speaker 2: kind of oh no, fuck, good day, good day to you, sir,
[52:28] Speaker 2: everything about him. Reginald has a whole box of pinky rings.
[52:32] Speaker 2: He keeps on his dresser.
[52:35] Speaker 1: Those teeth have to be put in every morning and
[52:38] Speaker 1: taken out every night, for sure, I don't kind of.
[52:42] Speaker 1: And sometimes when he talks when he's drunk.
[52:43] Speaker 2: They come out like for sure though they just slip
[52:46] Speaker 2: down a tiny bit or at least.
[52:47] Speaker 1: The two front teeth, you know how they what do
[52:49] Speaker 1: they call this anyways? Clippers? Anyways?
[52:52] Speaker 2: Also, I think Stephen needs a pencil thin mustache. Oh
[52:56] Speaker 2: I think that needs to be the next direction he
[52:58] Speaker 2: takes it. Yeah, it's a fact, div okay, all right.
[53:01] Speaker 2: So that's Reginald Holmes. And he was from a family
[53:06] Speaker 2: of very successful boat makers and he was rich. He
[53:11] Speaker 2: had a big mansion at McMahon's point. His business was
[53:14] Speaker 2: in Lavender Bay, all your favorite places. And he has
[53:19] Speaker 2: a wife, two children. He's a regular at the Royal
[53:22] Speaker 2: Sydney yacht club. He's a pillar of the local Presbyterian church.
[53:25] Speaker 2: But he was also a smuggler and a fraudster as
[53:30] Speaker 2: as they call him. Yes, So what he would do
[53:32] Speaker 2: was he hired men to drive motor boats out to
[53:35] Speaker 2: sea that would pick up packages that sailors would throw
[53:40] Speaker 2: off of boats. And the packages would be full of cocaine,
[53:43] Speaker 2: or they would be full of cigarettes, or they would
[53:45] Speaker 2: be full of other things that you weren't allowed to have.
[53:47] Speaker 1: This some straight fucking boardwalk empire shit right here. Yes,
[53:50] Speaker 1: guys seeing this. This guy's nookie, He's watch it. It's
[53:55] Speaker 1: a fucking great show. Rich.
[53:58] Speaker 2: So Jim Smith drove one of those boats. So that's
[54:02] Speaker 2: how they all kind of know each other. And so
[54:04] Speaker 2: that's the cops are starting to find all of this out,
[54:06] Speaker 2: and they also find out that the two Redge and
[54:10] Speaker 2: Jim had started a racket with a convicted forger named
[54:14] Speaker 2: Patrick Brady. Here's Patrick Brady. Not I wouldn't say as
[54:19] Speaker 2: much of a classy gent as Regg. Probably didn't go
[54:23] Speaker 2: to the yacht club that much. Just this is very superficial.
[54:27] Speaker 2: But old Pat Brady I think was like the whiskey
[54:32] Speaker 2: And though I think he was good at drawing because
[54:39] Speaker 2: he was a forger. Oh yeah, so he's probably smart,
[54:43] Speaker 2: real sharp, but I did he had a foul mouth,
[54:46] Speaker 2: all right. So the three of them are doing this
[54:50] Speaker 2: thing where Patrick Brady makes checks and he would get
[54:56] Speaker 2: they would get the name of Regge's fancy friends and
[54:58] Speaker 2: the people that he would make it's for, and they
[55:01] Speaker 2: would make fake checks and then I believe Jim Smith
[55:04] Speaker 2: would go cash those checks. And so they were in
[55:08] Speaker 2: that a ring of deceit and deception. I don't know
[55:13] Speaker 2: what I'm saying, but apparently in the police find out
[55:17] Speaker 2: that Jim started blackmailing Reginald Holmes, and obviously was not
[55:22] Speaker 2: a good idea. So on April seventh, nineteen thirty five,
[55:26] Speaker 2: Jim Smith tells his wife that he's going to go fishing,
[55:29] Speaker 2: but instead he went and played cards with Patrick Brady
[55:32] Speaker 2: at the Cecil Hotel in Crenula. Fuck.
[55:36] Speaker 1: Yes, good job, Yes, good job, Thank you so much.
[55:41] Speaker 2: It felt good. It was like I just didn't think
[55:43] Speaker 2: about it. I just was like, I'll just say it.
[55:45] Speaker 2: I don't want to overthink.
[55:47] Speaker 1: It, because you get we were starting to get like
[55:49] Speaker 1: scared of saying places.
[55:51] Speaker 2: I'm scared of words and letters I.
[55:53] Speaker 1: Mean numbers stun't getting started.
[55:55] Speaker 2: Oh my god, maps, I can't even Okay, So he lies.
[56:00] Speaker 2: This is their love. He lies to his wife, says
[56:03] Speaker 2: he's going to go fishing, and said he goes and
[56:04] Speaker 2: play his cards. Wow, yeah, roll those dice.
[56:08] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[56:10] Speaker 2: So Patrick Brady had a rented cottage nearby where they
[56:15] Speaker 2: were drinking and playing cards, and that comes into play later.
[56:19] Speaker 2: So a taxi driver testifies that he picked up Patrick
[56:24] Speaker 2: Brady from Canola and he drove him to a Reginald
[56:28] Speaker 2: Holmes house at three Baby Street in mcmhon's point apparently
[56:32] Speaker 2: very nice area, and or was in nineteen thirty five,
[56:36] Speaker 2: and on the same day that Jim Smith went missing.
[56:40] Speaker 2: And the cab driver said, quote, he was disheveled. He
[56:44] Speaker 2: had a hand in his pocket that he wouldn't take out.
[56:46] Speaker 1: What do you think it's in there like an.
[56:49] Speaker 2: Arm because his hand was holding down an arm. No,
[56:55] Speaker 2: I don't know what if he cut the bottom out
[56:57] Speaker 2: of his pocket, he was holding hands with the arm. No, No,
[57:03] Speaker 2: this is a criminal. You have to think like a criminal.
[57:08] Speaker 1: Okay.
[57:10] Speaker 2: So, uh so Patrick Brady's arrested. So they get that testimony.
[57:15] Speaker 2: They arrest Patrick Brady on May sixteenth, they charge him
[57:18] Speaker 2: with the murder of Jim Smith. When the police bring
[57:21] Speaker 2: in Reginald Holmes to question him because they know he's
[57:25] Speaker 2: in the circuit, reg says he's never met Patrick Bady.
[57:28] Speaker 2: He doesn't know who they're talking about. So he ends up.
[57:31] Speaker 2: They ends up letting him go there. They don't have
[57:33] Speaker 2: anything to hold him on, so he leaves, goes home.
[57:36] Speaker 2: Four days later, May twentieth, he goes into his boat
[57:40] Speaker 2: shed and attempts suicide by shooting himself in the head
[57:43] Speaker 2: with a thirty two. Reginald does, Reginald does, Richie, Richie
[57:48] Speaker 2: rich Reginald. Okay, But here's the thing. The bullet flattened
[57:53] Speaker 2: against the bone in his forehead, and so he was
[57:57] Speaker 2: merely stunned.
[58:00] Speaker 1: What did you make that up?
[58:07] Speaker 2: I wish I did. It would be such good writing.
[58:12] Speaker 1: Wow, that SuDS. That's some forehead.
[58:16] Speaker 2: I mean, that's like a fucking plate. Yeah, it's so
[58:21] Speaker 2: he stuns himself by shooting himself in the fucking head.
[58:27] Speaker 1: Stunning. It is stunning. It's stunning. It is stunning.
[58:32] Speaker 2: He falls in he's like in his boat or whatever.
[58:35] Speaker 2: He falls into the water. He falls into the water.
[58:39] Speaker 2: The water revives him from a bullet to the head,
[58:44] Speaker 2: and he comes to He gets into his boat and
[58:46] Speaker 2: he's he starts driving around Sydney Harbor. He disrupts the
[58:51] Speaker 2: ferry services. Do you think he's just screaming, Yeah, the
[58:55] Speaker 2: futs don't work on my head. You come at me,
[59:02] Speaker 2: Your son's a bitch. Yeah, m hmmm. He does this
[59:08] Speaker 2: for four hours. Shit, I mean, what would you do, right,
[59:12] Speaker 2: come among us but.
[59:14] Speaker 1: Lose their shit?
[59:16] Speaker 2: Who among us is right? He finally takes out of
[59:21] Speaker 2: the harbor, goes two kilometers out to see and he
[59:24] Speaker 2: finally just stops. He allows the police to come on board,
[59:28] Speaker 2: and he says, uh, to the police, Jimmy Smith is
[59:33] Speaker 2: dead and there's only another left. If you leave me
[59:36] Speaker 2: until tonight, I will finish him.
[59:39] Speaker 1: Oh okay. Cops are like sure.
[59:42] Speaker 2: So it's like we suspect we're the police, and we
[59:45] Speaker 2: suspect you of being involved in a murder. And then
[59:48] Speaker 2: you're like, look, I don't know that guy, but if
[59:52] Speaker 2: you just give me a day, I'll kill him. Yeah. Yeah, Rich,
[59:58] Speaker 2: get your shit together.
[59:59] Speaker 1: Yeah, what'd you what'd you get the fucking concussion when
[1:00:02] Speaker 1: you shot yourself in the head?
[1:00:04] Speaker 2: What did that? Somehow affect you mentally that you shot
[1:00:07] Speaker 2: yourself right in the fucking head. Okay, so there's an
[1:00:12] Speaker 2: empty bottle of brandy in the boat. Of course could
[1:00:15] Speaker 2: have had something to do with it, but also it
[1:00:17] Speaker 2: could have been a bullet to the head.
[1:00:20] Speaker 1: Uh.
[1:00:20] Speaker 2: So Detective Sergeant Frank Matthews questions reg and he says, uh,
[1:00:28] Speaker 2: he spills it. He says, Patrick Brady killed Jim Smith,
[1:00:31] Speaker 2: dismembered his body, put it in a trunk, and threw
[1:00:34] Speaker 2: it into Gunna Matta Bay.
[1:00:37] Speaker 1: Fucking nobody knows what that is.
[1:00:39] Speaker 2: I know, like, we don't have that here. You got
[1:00:43] Speaker 2: that from the wrong article.
[1:00:44] Speaker 1: Yeah, we go to a different bay.
[1:00:47] Speaker 2: That's not our by, it's not our bae. They call
[1:00:51] Speaker 2: that putting a body onto a trunk and throwing it
[1:00:53] Speaker 2: into the bay. They call that a Sydney send off.
[1:00:55] Speaker 2: Oh my god, it's not an accusation.
[1:00:59] Speaker 1: I got it.
[1:01:00] Speaker 2: I got it from Sydney dictionary.
[1:01:02] Speaker 1: Dot org.
[1:01:04] Speaker 2: Wow, not dot even dot com. That's a dot org.
[1:01:07] Speaker 2: So they know what they're talking about.
[1:01:08] Speaker 1: Slash aut slash e du Okay, so go on tell
[1:01:17] Speaker 1: me this is fucking crazy. It's insane.
[1:01:21] Speaker 2: So then he claimed that Patrick Brady came to his house,
[1:01:25] Speaker 2: showed him Smith's severed arm.
[1:01:27] Speaker 1: Me check your on, but I did back in the pocket.
[1:01:32] Speaker 2: And then hmmm mmm, oh my god, and then threaten
[1:01:41] Speaker 2: Holmes with murder if he did not immediately receive five
[1:01:45] Speaker 2: hundred dollars.
[1:01:49] Speaker 1: Oh hey, I have the earrings on two IoT?
[1:01:55] Speaker 2: Go on, Hi, what does doesn't this story have that
[1:02:01] Speaker 2: you're not completely focused on everything? I can't give you
[1:02:06] Speaker 2: more than this. No story will ever be more interesting.
[1:02:10] Speaker 2: And you're fucking touching your ear rings.
[1:02:15] Speaker 1: Listen like cats span about three year old right here?
[1:02:20] Speaker 1: Go on, I'm sorry. Oh no, no, no, I'm here
[1:02:23] Speaker 1: with you. Please, I'm supporting you.
[1:02:26] Speaker 2: Okay. They they start up a Corner's in quest in
[1:02:30] Speaker 2: my mind as well as yours. Okay, that's how I
[1:02:33] Speaker 2: knew what one was. Okay. So the day before the
[1:02:37] Speaker 2: Corner's in Quest, reg Holmes withdraws five hundred dollars from
[1:02:41] Speaker 2: his bank account, and in late in the evening, he
[1:02:44] Speaker 2: tells his wife that he has to go meet someone.
[1:02:46] Speaker 2: They lie to their wives so much nineteen thirty five.
[1:02:49] Speaker 1: Maybe if you were honest to your wife, you wouldn't.
[1:02:53] Speaker 2: His wife's like, get out of here. His forehead is
[1:02:56] Speaker 2: so hard yeah, you can go anywhere you want, get
[1:03:01] Speaker 2: away from me. Yeah, lie to me, You're like a monster.
[1:03:06] Speaker 1: Okay.
[1:03:08] Speaker 2: Early the next morning, which is the day of the Corners.
[1:03:10] Speaker 2: In Quest June eleventh, ninety thirty five, reginal Holmes is
[1:03:13] Speaker 2: found dead in the driver's seat of his nash saidan
[1:03:16] Speaker 2: with three gunshot wounds to the chest. And he is
[1:03:20] Speaker 2: the inquest star witness. He wasn't invincible, he isn't well.
[1:03:24] Speaker 1: They didn't get him.
[1:03:25] Speaker 2: Hair right, but he was never offered police protection, so
[1:03:30] Speaker 2: he so but so, there's a guy named Alex castlesho
[1:03:35] Speaker 2: was a professor and he wrote a book in nineteen
[1:03:37] Speaker 2: ninety five called The Shark Are Murders, which everyone should read.
[1:03:40] Speaker 2: I definitely am going to just to see if it's
[1:03:43] Speaker 2: actually real. It would be amazing if, like the Sydney
[1:03:47] Speaker 2: Dictionary dot org was just a prank website and it's.
[1:03:50] Speaker 1: Like and everyone here knew it.
[1:03:52] Speaker 2: Yeah exactly.
[1:03:53] Speaker 1: It's like she fucking fell for it.
[1:03:55] Speaker 2: That's my little brother, Are you stupid? But Professor Castle's
[1:04:02] Speaker 2: believes that Reginald Holmes took out a contract on his
[1:04:07] Speaker 2: own life because to spare his family the shame of
[1:04:11] Speaker 2: him be going to jail. Oh that's his theory, okay,
[1:04:16] Speaker 2: because the crime scene was made to appear like Holmes
[1:04:19] Speaker 2: had committed suicide, except for there were three bullet wounds
[1:04:23] Speaker 2: in his chest. Yeah, that would You'd have to really
[1:04:27] Speaker 2: be fucking dedicated. Yeah, just one more.
[1:04:31] Speaker 1: Yeah, He's like, I've tried this before, didn't work. I'm
[1:04:33] Speaker 1: going to triple down on this one.
[1:04:35] Speaker 2: I'm just really going to focus and I'm going to
[1:04:38] Speaker 2: just set my intention. I'm going to do some slight
[1:04:42] Speaker 2: yogic breathing.
[1:04:45] Speaker 1: Okay.
[1:04:45] Speaker 2: The police have no doubt that he's been murdered, right
[1:04:48] Speaker 2: because uh tis well, yes, And but also they find
[1:04:56] Speaker 2: out that Jim Smith, they believe that Jim Smith was
[1:04:59] Speaker 2: killed by Patrick Brady on the orders of gangland figure
[1:05:03] Speaker 2: Eddie Wyman, who was arrested while attempting to forge a
[1:05:07] Speaker 2: check in nineteen thirty four the year before, and the
[1:05:10] Speaker 2: reason he got arrested was because of a tip that
[1:05:12] Speaker 2: Jim Smith had given to the police because he was
[1:05:15] Speaker 2: a Phis Gig informant. Fine, listen, that's fine.
[1:05:21] Speaker 1: We're on the same wavelength.
[1:05:26] Speaker 2: So when that happens and Jim Smith is exposed as
[1:05:30] Speaker 2: a police informant, all of the Cee the Underworld, Billiard's
[1:05:35] Speaker 2: Hall Dennison's know that he's a stool pigeon, and he
[1:05:39] Speaker 2: basically has a target on his very soft forehead. Yes,
[1:05:44] Speaker 2: right at the top of his arm. Okay, so here's
[1:05:48] Speaker 2: the thing. The inquest starts on June twelfth, nineteen thirty five,
[1:05:54] Speaker 2: but the case against Patrick Brady falls apart because there's
[1:05:57] Speaker 2: no evidence. So Brady's lawyer of it actually claimed there
[1:06:01] Speaker 2: was not enough substance to even begin the inquest. He
[1:06:05] Speaker 2: argued that an arm quote does not constitute a body,
[1:06:08] Speaker 2: which is you can't argue with that, it's just part,
[1:06:13] Speaker 2: and that Jim Smith Minus's arm could very well be
[1:06:16] Speaker 2: alive somewhere else, which is true totally.
[1:06:19] Speaker 1: Ooh, what if he was like, oh, buddy, they're gonna
[1:06:22] Speaker 1: come after me, take my arm. I'm gonna get the
[1:06:25] Speaker 1: fuck out of here. Yeah, you keep this, you show
[1:06:28] Speaker 1: them my arm.
[1:06:28] Speaker 2: Yeah, then do a bunch of other crazy shit and
[1:06:32] Speaker 2: do whatever the fuck you want. Do what you want,
[1:06:35] Speaker 2: you'll take. I never like this tattoo anyway. It's kind
[1:06:38] Speaker 2: it's too big, and it doesn't obvious. I'm not that
[1:06:41] Speaker 2: into boxing. I was drunk and my friend made me
[1:06:44] Speaker 2: do it. Yep, Brady is found guilty and acquitted. I
[1:06:48] Speaker 2: mean sorry, not guilty and acquitted. That's the craziest part
[1:06:52] Speaker 2: of the story. He's found guilty and immediately acquitted.
[1:06:56] Speaker 1: So for the next.
[1:06:57] Speaker 2: Thirty years, Patrick Brady steadfastly maintained he was in no
[1:07:00] Speaker 2: way connected to the murder of Jim Smith. And he
[1:07:03] Speaker 2: died in Sydney on April eighteenth, nineteen sixty five, at
[1:07:07] Speaker 2: the age of seventy six. Reginald Holmes was cremated on
[1:07:11] Speaker 2: June thirteenth, nineteen thirty five, and he left an estate
[1:07:14] Speaker 2: valued it over thirty four thousand dollars in nineteen thirty five,
[1:07:18] Speaker 2: which today is millions of dollars.
[1:07:22] Speaker 1: That would be a millionaire back then. Yeah, not really,
[1:07:26] Speaker 1: I'll just be like doing okay, just tell her how
[1:07:30] Speaker 1: much money I know, right, well, I'm giving it all
[1:07:34] Speaker 1: into a fucking hurricane. So what did I just threw
[1:07:39] Speaker 1: it into a hurricane. I hope they're giving some money
[1:07:43] Speaker 1: to the hurricane. Here, pay off the hurricane. Get out
[1:07:48] Speaker 1: of hair.
[1:07:51] Speaker 2: You guys may have already read this, but this is
[1:07:53] Speaker 2: something like on our Twitter that everyone's retreating because you
[1:07:56] Speaker 2: may have known this, but the State of Florida actually
[1:07:59] Speaker 2: had to put out a warning to its citizens not
[1:08:03] Speaker 2: to shoot at the hurricane.
[1:08:04] Speaker 1: Yeah, that's where we live. Can someone can we live here? Please?
[1:08:14] Speaker 2: You can yell at us all you want, just as
[1:08:16] Speaker 2: long as no one shoots us. And even though the
[1:08:22] Speaker 2: Navy and the Air Force searched Port Hacking and Gunna
[1:08:25] Speaker 2: Mada Bay, the thing you deny.
[1:08:27] Speaker 1: Exists but I insist is real.
[1:08:30] Speaker 2: They never found the rest of Jim Smith's body, so
[1:08:33] Speaker 2: he could be but they don't know. That's it. That's
[1:08:37] Speaker 2: the arm Shark Shark Arm murder.
[1:08:41] Speaker 1: That crazy fun full of twists and turns, nothing too controversial,
[1:08:50] Speaker 1: you know for a true crime podcast.
[1:08:53] Speaker 2: Yeah crazy, Okay.
[1:08:59] Speaker 1: We're back. And any updates on this legendary story there are,
[1:09:04] Speaker 1: It's just.
[1:09:04] Speaker 2: This one, which is in twenty twenty, a book called
[1:09:07] Speaker 2: Shark Arm, A colon, a shark, a tattooed arm, and
[1:09:11] Speaker 2: Two Unsolved Murders was published about this case. The authors,
[1:09:16] Speaker 2: Philip Rupe and Kevin Meager, are the people who put
[1:09:20] Speaker 2: that book together. So if you want to know all
[1:09:22] Speaker 2: the details and have it all laid out for you,
[1:09:25] Speaker 2: I would get Shark Arm colon a Shark a tattooed
[1:09:28] Speaker 2: arm and two unsolved murders.
[1:09:29] Speaker 1: And then also the Dollip did that. I can't remember
[1:09:32] Speaker 1: it was before or after us. It was before, Yeah,
[1:09:34] Speaker 1: that's what I thought.
[1:09:35] Speaker 2: I used to call Dave when they did good stories
[1:09:38] Speaker 2: and I'd be like, so, since that one was a murder,
[1:09:40] Speaker 2: I'm gonna have to probably take salla or he would
[1:09:44] Speaker 2: text me and be like, we just covered this, you
[1:09:45] Speaker 2: have to do it.
[1:09:46] Speaker 1: Yeah, Oh that's not fair. He's any sense to his notes.
[1:09:49] Speaker 2: He's like, just read this.
[1:09:51] Speaker 1: Gareth calls me and he's like, I don't have notes
[1:09:52] Speaker 1: because I don't actually do any homework. God damn it.
[1:09:56] Speaker 2: He really figured it out.
[1:09:57] Speaker 1: Okay, should we get into the hometown. Yes, let's hear
[1:10:01] Speaker 1: the hometown about John Wayne Glover the Granny Killer. Do
[1:10:08] Speaker 1: we should we?
[1:10:10] Speaker 2: Yeah?
[1:10:10] Speaker 1: We can we.
[1:10:11] Speaker 2: Yeah, we're gonna do at home. Let's do some hometowns.
[1:10:17] Speaker 1: But take a bow.
[1:10:19] Speaker 2: What if I just threw up immediately? Oh my god,
[1:10:21] Speaker 2: it's over.
[1:10:22] Speaker 5: Thank God.
[1:10:25] Speaker 1: I don't I let Karen choose.
[1:10:27] Speaker 2: Well, but oh right, we we got a fun tweet

[1:10:53] Speaker 1: you don't have to do it. I can see you.
[1:10:54] Speaker 1: Are you? Are you here?

[1:11:07] Speaker 2: Some kind of action so that you.

[1:11:36] Speaker 1: Amazing?
[1:11:37] Speaker 5: Does it wig?
[1:11:38] Speaker 1: Does it work? Is it on? Yeah? If you're going

[1:11:44] Speaker 1: thanks David, it was working?
[1:11:45] Speaker 2: Does that one work?
[1:11:46] Speaker 1: Yes? Okay, listen, if you don't need a microphone a moonwalk,
[1:11:50] Speaker 1: So let's go ahead.

[1:11:59] Speaker 6: I said that I'm super good at me walking if
[1:12:01] Speaker 6: you get tired.

[1:12:25] Speaker 3: Yeah, I see it. I did it.
[1:12:30] Speaker 2: No, that was super good.
[1:12:32] Speaker 1: That was great. That was amazing. Do you then? We
[1:12:36] Speaker 1: were like, do you have a home? Now it's not
[1:12:38] Speaker 1: gonna work here.
[1:12:39] Speaker 2: Wait, yeah, that wouldn't work.
[1:12:40] Speaker 1: Okay, do you have a hometown or do you have

[1:13:06] Speaker 6: I'm from originally from French as Forest, which is near
[1:13:09] Speaker 6: where this hometown is.
[1:13:11] Speaker 1: And where is that?
[1:13:13] Speaker 2: Oh yeah nearby here?
[1:13:15] Speaker 4: Sure?
[1:13:16] Speaker 2: Well, I mean or insertainy compared to Florida.
[1:13:21] Speaker 1: Okay, okay, there was.
[1:13:23] Speaker 6: This was when I was I look really young for
[1:13:25] Speaker 6: my age.
[1:13:26] Speaker 5: Oh, just out of high school in the late eighties?
[1:13:32] Speaker 1: You do? Did you hear the gasps? They're buying They're

[1:14:46] Speaker 2: I was.
[1:14:47] Speaker 1: I was kind of shitty because.
[1:14:49] Speaker 2: Yeah, anyway, did I miss a lot of ship? I
[1:14:52] Speaker 2: know I missed. Julian Assange was in it, and I
[1:14:55] Speaker 2: didn't say that.
[1:14:56] Speaker 1: Yeah, no he was, Yeah I didn't.
[1:14:58] Speaker 5: And have you seen photos of her now?
[1:15:00] Speaker 2: Yes?
[1:15:02] Speaker 1: Her hairline, yes, no, we saw that one thing just because.
[1:15:05] Speaker 2: She got so many face lifts that her face now
[1:15:08] Speaker 2: starts back here. That's rude. She's very old and dying, okay,
[1:15:14] Speaker 2: but she's a bad person. Yeah, great dresses, Oh my god,
[1:15:20] Speaker 2: such good clothes.
[1:15:22] Speaker 1: So Randicula, we've.
[1:15:25] Speaker 5: We there'd been a couple of old women killed. And
[1:15:30] Speaker 5: in Mossman, which is very ritty suburb.
[1:15:33] Speaker 2: This is all north Shore where everyone's really up tied.
[1:15:39] Speaker 6: And John Wanglove I hated his mother and then he
[1:15:43] Speaker 6: got a stepmother, a mother in law that he also hated, and.
[1:15:46] Speaker 5: He worked as a pie salesman. Prospect like meat pies.
[1:15:52] Speaker 1: Oh oh yeah, I know what a meat pie is, delicious, savory, pastry,
[1:15:56] Speaker 1: got it.
[1:15:58] Speaker 6: But like door to door or a nursing home to
[1:16:02] Speaker 6: nursing home, I don't know.
[1:16:06] Speaker 5: Old ladies sells pies to their nursing homes.
[1:16:10] Speaker 1: You think he'd be like, I'm going to get another job.
[1:16:12] Speaker 1: I'm going to do something different. And old ladies.
[1:16:17] Speaker 5: Started to die in the nursing homes he delivered to.
[1:16:19] Speaker 5: But no no connection. And he even got in trouble
[1:16:22] Speaker 5: a couple of times for.
[1:16:25] Speaker 6: He just wandered through the nursing homes and just feel
[1:16:28] Speaker 6: old ladies up.
[1:16:30] Speaker 2: He was gross, but.
[1:16:31] Speaker 1: Still no connection.
[1:16:33] Speaker 6: Why would a pie salesman need anything interesting to happen?
[1:16:36] Speaker 1: In music?
[1:16:37] Speaker 2: What? Sorry? What year was this again?
[1:16:40] Speaker 5: Nineteen eighty nine?
[1:16:42] Speaker 2: Yeah, oh, you said at the beginning, because you're so young,
[1:16:44] Speaker 2: you're so beautiful.
[1:16:45] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[1:16:48] Speaker 6: And he would see old ladies coming home from doing
[1:16:52] Speaker 6: their shopping and follow them back to nearly their front door,
[1:16:56] Speaker 6: and then as they were opening the front door, hit.
[1:16:59] Speaker 2: Them in the back of the head with a no
[1:17:01] Speaker 2: and then take them inside.
[1:17:02] Speaker 6: And he wouldn't he'd often still just like one hundred dollars.
[1:17:06] Speaker 5: But he'd leave their jewelry.
[1:17:09] Speaker 6: And he was basically just saying that, you know, he
[1:17:13] Speaker 6: doesn't really know how he does it. He just hates
[1:17:15] Speaker 6: old ladies and can't control himself. But we were we
[1:17:18] Speaker 6: wanted to go, my beautiful twin sister and I we
[1:17:23] Speaker 6: wanted to go to.
[1:17:26] Speaker 5: We're invited to two parties one weekend.
[1:17:28] Speaker 1: Wow, I know.
[1:17:29] Speaker 2: Yeah, that's how it is when you're young.
[1:17:35] Speaker 6: Uh, And we weren't allowed to go to the nearby
[1:17:38] Speaker 6: one because someone killing old ladies.
[1:17:41] Speaker 1: We were young, though, you are you aging backwards and
[1:17:44] Speaker 1: you looked really old. Done. Yeah, gotta gotta got.
[1:17:47] Speaker 6: It, yes, And so he went to the other party
[1:17:51] Speaker 6: in muss Men and that night he killed someone imossible.
[1:17:56] Speaker 6: That afternoon he had but we hadn't heard from it
[1:17:57] Speaker 6: yet because nineteen eighty nine we were watching Countdown the News.
[1:18:02] Speaker 2: That's a really cool show, is it.
[1:18:03] Speaker 6: Yeah, And eventually he got they made the connection between
[1:18:10] Speaker 6: pies and feeling up old ladies and hitting them on
[1:18:13] Speaker 6: the head. And it would also just steal like one
[1:18:15] Speaker 6: hundred dollars but nothing, no jewelry, and he just go
[1:18:17] Speaker 6: to the nearby r s L.
[1:18:19] Speaker 2: That's it.
[1:18:20] Speaker 1: Like it's no.
[1:18:24] Speaker 2: He said, no, we can't accept any more new information
[1:18:28] Speaker 2: about this country. I'm sorry we maxed out.
[1:18:31] Speaker 1: If I don't understand, it's not true.
[1:18:34] Speaker 5: He'd play the Pokey's with old ladies money.
[1:18:36] Speaker 1: Poky's is the thing you do at a place.
[1:18:40] Speaker 2: Do you a lot of smackies? Play pop? Yeah?
[1:18:43] Speaker 1: How many lots? If it's sort of one or the other.
[1:18:45] Speaker 1: But got it, got it? Got it?
[1:18:50] Speaker 5: Hello and yeah?
[1:18:54] Speaker 1: Oh yeah.
[1:18:57] Speaker 6: And when he got caught, uh he apparently in jail
[1:19:01] Speaker 6: he just did anything to attract attention, and so he
[1:19:05] Speaker 6: killed himself in two thousand and five.
[1:19:06] Speaker 5: But all his all the fellow inmates.
[1:19:09] Speaker 6: Thought he did that for attention and accidentally actually died.
[1:19:14] Speaker 6: So because he would do lots of things to just say,
[1:19:17] Speaker 6: oh poor me, But he's now.
[1:19:22] Speaker 2: Amazing.
