[0:00] Speaker 1: Good Things. Good Things.
[0:02] Speaker 2: With Brent Lindeke. And wrapping up for us, as always,
[0:06] Speaker 2: Brent Lindeke, the Good Things guy. Happy Friday, Brent.
[0:10] Speaker 1: Happy Friday, Nan, and happy Friday to all of the
[0:12] Speaker 1: 702 and Cape Talk listeners.
[0:15] Speaker 2: So you've got some fabulous stories for us this week,
[0:18] Speaker 2: as always. Firstly, tell us about the Durban security officer
[0:21] Speaker 2: who used his last hundred bucks in his pocket to
[0:24] Speaker 2: help a stranded family.
[0:25] Speaker 1: Sure. What a story. So his name is Goodson. which
[0:29] Speaker 1: is just so apt. And he was walking home from
[0:32] Speaker 1: work and he saw a mom and her two daughters
[0:36] Speaker 1: were stranded. They'd run out of fuel and he felt
[0:38] Speaker 1: that it was at a dangerous bend in the road
[0:41] Speaker 1: and he wasn't too happy about it. He only had
[0:44] Speaker 1: a hundred rand on him and it was his last
[0:46] Speaker 1: hundred rand that he had. And he gave it to
[0:49] Speaker 1: that family so that they could put petrol in. The
[0:52] Speaker 1: mom offered to give the petrol back or to give
[0:54] Speaker 1: the money back, and he refused. He just said that
[0:57] Speaker 1: he wanted them to be safe and he wanted to
[1:00] Speaker 1: do a kind thing. His story has since gone viral
[1:03] Speaker 1: and his company, Accelerate Security, today had a massive celebration
[1:08] Speaker 1: at their offices where they just You know, applauded him
[1:12] Speaker 1: and thanked him and celebrated him for being such a
[1:15] Speaker 1: kind South African. His story has inspired so many South
[1:18] Speaker 1: Africans that have read it. Sometimes the smallest things we
[1:22] Speaker 1: do are actually just the biggest things, really.
[1:25] Speaker 2: Now, this guy, Jason Van Porpel, we first heard about
[1:30] Speaker 2: him with his skateboarding adventures. Now he's coming back to
[1:32] Speaker 2: South Africa again.
[1:34] Speaker 1: Yeah, this is such a great story as well. So
[1:37] Speaker 1: for the listeners that might not remember or maybe haven't heard,
[1:40] Speaker 1: he in May was traveling from Uganda to Cape Town,
[1:44] Speaker 1: trying to raise money to build a skate park in Uganda.
[1:48] Speaker 1: And his story sort of went unnoticed while he was
[1:51] Speaker 1: on his way to South Africa. But when he arrived
[1:53] Speaker 1: in South Africa, cities, towns, They all came out in
[1:59] Speaker 1: thousands to sort of celebrate him and wish him well
[2:02] Speaker 1: on his way. Everybody was following him on social media.
[2:04] Speaker 1: Kids were let out of school early in order to
[2:07] Speaker 1: go to the side of the road just to cheer
[2:10] Speaker 1: him on. It really did unify South Africa. The stories
[2:14] Speaker 1: that were written about him just showed the beautiful side
[2:17] Speaker 1: of our country. And he's decided to come back now
[2:21] Speaker 1: in mid-November. He's partnered with the Winnie Mbasa Foundation, and
[2:25] Speaker 1: they're going to be raising funds to give gifts to
[2:28] Speaker 1: underprivileged kids around the country. But he's going to travel
[2:31] Speaker 1: to all of those towns and cities that he previously visited.
[2:34] Speaker 1: And actually now, because he's not skateboarding through, he's going
[2:37] Speaker 1: to spend time with all the South Africans that were
[2:39] Speaker 1: there for him on his original trip. So just another
[2:42] Speaker 1: really lack of story.
[2:43] Speaker 2: Oh, that's brilliant. And then tell us about the forgotten
[2:46] Speaker 2: set of keys, the handwritten notes and some very lack
[2:49] Speaker 2: of Metro police officers.
[2:51] Speaker 1: Dr. Michael Moll. He went viral last weekend. So he
[2:54] Speaker 1: went to a Stormers versus Sharks game at Greenpoint Stadium
[2:59] Speaker 1: and he was running a little bit late. He was
[3:01] Speaker 1: on his Vespa, he parked it, he ran into the
[3:04] Speaker 1: stadium and he started watching the match. And about at
[3:06] Speaker 1: the 70th minute, he put his hand in his pocket
[3:10] Speaker 1: and he realized he didn't have his keys. And I
[3:12] Speaker 1: could only imagine you think the worst. You kind of
[3:14] Speaker 1: like left your keys in your vest, but it's going
[3:16] Speaker 1: to be gone. He ran back to his bike. And
[3:19] Speaker 1: when he got there, there was a note from the
[3:22] Speaker 1: Metro police cops who had found his keys in the bike.
[3:25] Speaker 1: And they said, please call us. We have your keys.
[3:28] Speaker 1: And when he did call, they arrived to his bike.
[3:30] Speaker 1: They scolded him, but with a nice way, a bit
[3:34] Speaker 1: of a smile, telling him not to do it again.
[3:35] Speaker 1: And then they actually asked him to post that photo
[3:38] Speaker 1: onto social media because it was a really, really kind
[3:41] Speaker 1: moment and he enjoyed it. And South Africans have been
[3:44] Speaker 1: loving that story as well.
[3:45] Speaker 2: Well, Brent, as always, thank you so much for bringing
[3:47] Speaker 2: us such good news stories and making us smile on
[3:50] Speaker 2: a Friday.
[3:51] Speaker 1: We absolutely need it. And as I say every Friday
[3:54] Speaker 1: to all of the listeners, wishing you only good things.
[3:57] Speaker 2: Only good things, Brent Lindekuh, the good things guy, wrapping
[4:00] Speaker 2: up the week for us.
