[0:15] Let's all turn our Bible to Acts chapter 9, reading from verse 8 to 31.
[0:20] It says that,
[0:50] And to him said the Lord in a vision,
[0:54] And he said,
[0:56] And the Lord said unto him,
[0:59] And inquire in the house of Judas for one called Saul of Tarsus.
[1:09] For behold, he prayeth and has seen in a vision a man named Ananias coming in and putting his hand on him
[1:18] that he might receive his sight.
[1:21] Then Ananias answered,
[1:53] How great things he must suffer for my name's sake.
[1:57] And Ananias went his way and entered into the house and putting his hands on him said,
[2:02] Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, that appeared unto thee in the way as thou comest,
[2:11] has sent me that thou mightest receive thy sight and be filled with the Holy Ghost.
[2:18] And immediately there fell from his eyes as it had been scales.
[2:23] And he received sight forthwith and arose and was baptized.
[2:29] And when he had received meat, he was strengthened.
[2:32] Then was Saul setting days with the disciples which were at Damascus.
[2:37] And straight away he preached Christ in the synagogues that he is the Son of God.
[2:44] But all that heard him were amazed and said,
[2:48] Is not this he that destroyed them which called on this name in Jerusalem
[2:54] and came hither for that intent that he might bring them bound unto the chief priests.
[3:02] But Saul increased the more in strength and confounded the Jews which dwelt at Damascus,
[3:11] proving that this is very Christ.
[3:16] And after that many days were fulfilled, the Jews took counsel to kill him.
[3:22] But their laying in a wait was known of Saul.
[3:26] And they watched the gate day and night to kill him.
[3:32] Then the disciples took him by night and let him down by the wall in a basket.
[3:39] And when Saul was come to Jerusalem, he assayed to join himself to the disciples.
[3:44] But they were all afraid of him and believed not that he was a disciple.
[3:49] But Barnabas took him and brought him to the apostles
[3:53] and declared unto them how he had seen the Lord in the way
[4:00] and that he had spoken to him and how he had preached boldly in Damascus in the name of Jesus.
[4:08] And he was with them coming in and going out at Jerusalem.
[4:12] And he spoke boldly in the name of the Lord Jesus and disputing against the Christians.
[4:19] But they went about to slay him, which when the brethren knew,
[4:24] they brought him down to Caesarea and sent him forth to Tarsus.
[4:30] Then had the church rest throughout all Judea and Galilee and Samaria
[4:36] and were edified and walked in the fear of the Lord
[4:41] and in the come of the Holy Ghost were multiplied.

[4:46] Father, we thank you for bringing us together for to hear your word.
[4:50] We pray that as your word is taught and as your word is preached,
[4:54] we pray that grant us access into yourself.
[4:57] We pray that let your word come with revelation,
[5:01] with the revealing of Christ.
[5:02] Let your word come to form Christ in us.
[5:05] Let your word come to prepare us for the days ahead.
[5:08] Let your word come to bring healing,
[5:11] to accomplish redemption,

[6:03] It's always nice to be in church.
[6:06] And it's always fantastic to get to hear the word of God in church.
[6:10] So, from the text and from previous sessions,
[6:15] we saw how Saul was bent on stamping out anyone who attempts to call on the name of the Lord
[6:23] and closing down churches, not only in Jerusalem,
[6:26] but wherever the church was spreading to.
[6:28] He made it his godly vision, godly ambition to shut down churches.
[6:33] Little did he know that he was going to be the one to open more churches.
[6:37] And on his way to Damascus to go and carry out that mission,
[6:41] he encountered the Lord himself from what we saw in our last sessions.
[6:46] And the Lord said,
[6:48] it is difficult for you to kick against the gods,
[6:51] which implied there was something he was fighting against.
[6:56] Not just closing the churches,
[6:59] but there was something that was obvious to him,
[7:02] which he was intentionally trying to deny.
[7:04] When people come into contact with God's word,
[7:07] they know it's true.
[7:08] Let me say it again.
[7:10] When you come into contact with the gospel,
[7:12] you know the gospel is true.
[7:14] But you choose not to believe.
[7:17] Unbelief is a choice.
[7:19] It's not emotional.
[7:21] It's not feelings.
[7:23] And it's certainly not a strong intellectual positioning.
[7:27] Unbelief is a condition of the heart.
[7:29] So, he says that Jesus said,
[7:32] when the Holy Ghost comes,
[7:33] he will convict the world of sin.
[7:36] John chapter 16, verse 8 said,
[7:38] when he comes,
[7:39] he will convict the world of sin and of righteousness.
[7:42] Verse 9.
[7:43] Verse 9 says that,
[7:44] of sin because they did not believe in me.
[7:47] That is the sin that sends people to hell.
[7:50] Not behavior.
[7:53] Even though our behavior will count as well.
[7:55] Our behavior will validate our punishment.
[7:58] But what sends people to hell
[8:02] is our rejection of Christ.
[8:05] And what makes people suffer,
[8:07] what validates the punishment of people in hell
[8:11] is our behavior.
[8:14] Our sinfulness.
[8:15] So, people will be punished in hell
[8:17] for their sinfulness.
[8:19] But the only way you can escape from hell
[8:21] is not because of your sinlessness.
[8:23] The only way anyone can escape from hell
[8:27] is believing in Christ as their Savior.
[8:32] And so, he went about trying to stop people.
[8:37] Meanwhile, he had heard the full gospel.
[8:41] Saul, Shaul, had already heard the full gospel.
[8:44] That's why he was fighting against them.
[8:48] Like they said,
[8:49] you have filled Jerusalem.
[8:51] In Acts chapter 5, verse 28,
[8:52] we told you not to preach in his name.
[8:54] You have filled Jerusalem.
[8:56] If you lived in Jerusalem,
[8:57] the chances are that you knew about Jesus Christ
[9:00] being the Messiah and the Savior.
[9:02] But now the choice was yours to reject it.
[9:05] You remember,
[9:06] when Stephen preached the message,
[9:08] the full gospel to them,
[9:11] they nashed their teeth against him
[9:12] and killed him.
[9:14] So, Saul was there killing him,
[9:16] knowing the gospel.
[9:18] He knew the gospel,
[9:20] but he chose,
[9:21] I won't accept this kind of gospel.
[9:23] And then, on his way to Damascus
[9:25] to stop the spread of the gospel,
[9:27] he met Jesus.
[9:28] And Jesus said,
[9:30] why do you persecute me?
[9:32] And he said,
[9:33] who are you?
[9:34] He said, I'm Jesus,
[9:35] who you are persecuting.
[9:37] It is difficult to kick against the ghost.
[9:39] Verse 6, arise.
[9:40] Somebody say arise.
[9:41] Arise.
[9:42] So, verse 6 says that the Lord told him,
[9:44] arise in the city you are going,
[9:46] keep going there.
[9:47] Arise and go there,
[9:49] and you'll be told what to do.
[9:51] I won't tell you what you're supposed to do.
[9:52] You ask me what to do.
[9:54] You'll be told what to do.
[9:55] Why?
[9:55] Because of the importance of the body of Christ.
[9:58] Everybody must be part of the body
[10:00] if you are in Christ.
[10:03] 1 Corinthians 12, verse 13 says that,
[10:06] by one spirit,
[10:07] will we all baptize into how many bodies?
[10:09] One body.
[10:10] In Ephesians chapter 4,
[10:13] verse 4 and 5,
[10:16] it talks about there is one body,
[10:19] one spirit.
[10:20] So, there are not several bodies.
[10:22] In 1 Corinthians chapter 12,
[10:24] verse 12,
[10:26] it says that,
[10:27] for us the body is one
[10:29] and has many members.
[10:31] How many of us here have
[10:33] more than one body?
[10:34] So, the food you are eating matters,
[10:37] please.
[10:38] Because you have only one body.
[10:41] You can't abuse your body
[10:45] and expect to go and use somebody as this body.
[10:50] We can have organ transplant,
[10:52] but no body transplant.
[10:53] There cannot be body swap.
[10:55] So, the body is one.
[10:58] So, he said,
[10:59] as the body is one,
[11:00] but has many members.
[11:02] So, sometimes you can transplant some members
[11:04] from one body.
[11:07] But as from when we talk about
[11:08] an actual body,
[11:09] an actual body is just one.
[11:12] So,
[11:12] but has many members.
[11:15] But all the members of
[11:17] that one body,
[11:19] being many,
[11:20] are one body.
[11:22] Many,
[11:23] but one body.
[11:25] We are many.
[11:25] And he says that,
[11:26] so,
[11:28] also,
[11:29] it is a church.
[11:31] It is a,
[11:32] so also is a church.
[11:33] So also is Christ.
[11:36] Christ has many members,
[11:38] but still one body.
[11:39] So, you are asking me what to do?
[11:41] Go.
[11:42] There are members of the body
[11:43] who are ready to assimilate you
[11:45] as one fellowship.
[11:46] For the sake of koinonia,
[11:48] I won't tell you.
[11:50] For the sake of one body,
[11:51] interaction,
[11:52] participation,
[11:54] joint fellowship,
[11:55] I can't tell you.
[11:57] Because I don't operate like that.
[11:58] So, he said,
[11:59] go,
[11:59] and you'll be told what to do.
[12:01] And then verse 7 says that,
[12:03] when you go,
[12:03] this is very funny,
[12:04] verse 7,
[12:04] a very interesting text.
[12:06] It says that,
[12:06] and the man who journeyed with him
[12:07] stood speechless,
[12:09] hearing the voice,
[12:10] but seeing no man.
[12:12] But Paul saw somebody,
[12:14] but they didn't see any man.
[12:15] But look at the next verse.
[12:17] That's where he started today's reading from.
[12:19] Then Saul arose from the ground,
[12:21] and when he opened his eyes,
[12:25] and when his eyes were opened,
[12:30] he didn't see anything.
[12:31] He opened the eyes.
[12:33] When you are told,
[12:34] open your eyes,
[12:35] that means you have to look at something.
[12:37] But he attempted to look.
[12:38] It wasn't like his eyes were closed.
[12:42] When he fell,
[12:43] the eyes were closed.
[12:44] After all that,
[12:45] he got up,
[12:46] opened his eyes,
[12:47] and he didn't see.
[12:49] When you open your eyes,
[12:50] you always see.
[12:51] But this gentleman opened his eyes,
[12:54] and he didn't see.
[12:55] He said,
[12:55] he saw no one,
[12:58] but was led,
[12:59] I'm sure he told the guys,
[13:00] I'm supposed to go to Damascus.
[13:01] Let's keep going.
[13:02] He said,
[13:02] should we go back?
[13:03] If this is the way,
[13:04] as we got close to Damascus,
[13:06] if this is what is happening,
[13:07] then what's going to happen?
[13:08] If we get there,
[13:09] when we enter.
[13:10] So I'm sure they might have wanted him
[13:12] to have gotten back or something
[13:13] about the mission.
[13:15] But he said,
[13:16] no,
[13:16] let's go.
[13:16] I've been told to go there.
[13:19] I have to obey.
[13:20] So they brought him to Damascus.
[13:23] And then,
[13:24] in Damascus,
[13:25] and he was there for three days
[13:27] without sight,
[13:29] and neither eat nor drink.
[13:33] He didn't eat,
[13:34] he didn't drink,
[13:35] he couldn't see.
[13:36] What was he doing?
[13:38] What was he doing?
[13:38] What was he doing?
[13:39] He didn't eat,
[13:40] he didn't drink,
[13:41] he didn't see.
[13:43] Maybe he was talking to people,
[13:45] but what he has seen,
[13:47] the experience he had had,
[13:48] was so wild.
[13:50] The things he decided
[13:51] he was going to spend
[13:52] all his life fighting,
[13:54] he has realized
[13:55] that he was very wrong.
[13:56] And as I submitted to you
[13:59] last week,
[14:00] it's not just finding out
[14:02] how wrong he was,
[14:03] that would have been
[14:04] more graphic to him.
[14:06] What would have been
[14:07] more graphic to him
[14:08] was not his eyes
[14:09] that couldn't see,
[14:10] not the voice he had,
[14:12] but the personality
[14:14] he realized he was dealing with.
[14:16] He encountered
[14:17] the body of Christ.
[14:19] He realized that
[14:20] I'm dealing with a body
[14:22] I don't know.
[14:23] I'm dealing with a personality
[14:24] I didn't know.
[14:26] That was the greatest thing,
[14:27] so it was a radical shock
[14:29] because Israel
[14:32] was a reflection of the church
[14:34] in the Old Testament.
[14:36] So when you study
[14:37] the Old Testament,
[14:38] there are imageries
[14:40] or portraits,
[14:42] portraits that God used,
[14:44] the Bible used
[14:45] to depict Israel.
[14:47] For instance,
[14:49] Israel was called
[14:49] a household.
[14:50] Israel was called
[14:52] the people of God.
[14:54] Israel was also called
[14:55] a family.
[14:57] So a household,
[14:59] a family,
[15:00] a kingdom,
[15:01] a people of God,
[15:02] the chosen ones.
[15:04] These were all
[15:05] the congregation of God,
[15:06] the assembly.
[15:07] So Bible calls them
[15:08] the church in the wilderness.
[15:11] So they were even,
[15:12] so if we are called a church,
[15:13] there was a church
[15:14] in the wilderness.
[15:16] You know,
[15:16] it was an imagery,
[15:17] it was portraits.
[15:18] So these are different portraits
[15:21] the Bible used
[15:22] for Israel.
[15:24] And these same portraits
[15:25] were used for the church.
[15:27] So the church
[15:28] is the household of God.
[15:29] The church is the family of God.
[15:31] The church is the chosen of God.
[15:33] The church is the flock of God.
[15:34] Israel,
[15:35] we didn't first call God
[15:36] our shepherd.
[15:38] David said,
[15:38] the Lord is my shepherd.
[15:40] God was shepherd over Israel.
[15:42] But the church
[15:42] is also a flock.
[15:43] It says,
[15:44] Acts chapter 20,
[15:45] verse 28,
[15:45] take it to yourself
[15:47] and to the flock
[15:48] over which the Holy Ghost
[15:50] has made you a shepherd,

[15:52] or overseer,
[15:53] to shepherd the church of God.
[15:54] The church is a flock.
[15:56] So there are several portraits
[15:58] in the scriptures,
[15:59] in the scriptures
[15:59] of the New Testament
[16:00] that were applied
[16:01] to the church,
[16:02] which were similarly applied
[16:04] to Israel
[16:05] in the Old Testament.

[16:08] there was one
[16:08] that was never applied
[16:10] to the Old Testament,
[16:11] to Israel
[16:12] in the Old Testament,
[16:13] which was the body.
[16:15] the body.
[16:17] So,
[16:17] if you are
[16:18] a Jewish rabbi,
[16:20] you knew
[16:21] that,
[16:22] well,
[16:22] the people of God
[16:23] could be represented
[16:25] as a special group
[16:26] of people.
[16:27] The people of God
[16:28] could be represented
[16:29] as a congregation.
[16:31] The people of God
[16:31] could be represented
[16:32] as a family,

[16:35] But you never,
[16:36] because it's not,
[16:37] it's not until Paul
[16:39] met Jesus,

[18:23] kind of movies
[18:24] and the bad guy
[18:25] goes to kidnap somebody
[18:27] and they didn't know
[18:28] they had been kidnapped,

[18:30] I won't follow you.
[18:31] Then they show him
[18:31] the gun.
[18:32] No one showed.
[18:34] It's hidden.

[20:55] doesn't meet natural mind about Christ.
[20:58] You can't intellectualize,
[20:59] you can't be educated enough to know it.

[21:04] That's why I said,
[21:05] man does not teach me this.
[21:07] It says that,
[21:08] if you read,
[21:08] you will understand,
[21:10] you will get,
[21:10] you will read,
[21:11] you may understand my knowledge
[21:13] in the mystery of Christ.
[21:15] Verse 5,
[21:16] look at this,
[21:17] which in other ages,
[21:18] was not made known to the sun.
[21:20] Man couldn't know it.
[21:22] Was not made known to the sun.
[21:23] The earth is now being revealed
[21:24] by the Holy Spirit
[21:25] to his holy apostles and prophets.
[21:26] Verse 6,
[21:27] that the Gentiles should be fellow heirs
[21:29] of the same body.
[21:32] He's dropping it down.
[21:34] He's beginning to drop it.
[21:35] He said,
[21:35] we are talking about a body matter.
[21:39] In Ephesians chapter 2,

[21:41] he himself is our peace.

[21:46] and broken down the middle wall of separation.
[21:48] The next verse says that,
[21:50] having abolished in his flesh,
[21:51] the enmity,
[21:52] that is the law of commandment,
[21:53] contained the ordinance,
[21:54] so as to create in himself
[21:55] one human from the two
[21:56] that's making peace.
[21:57] Look at the next verse.
[21:58] Verse 16,
[21:58] he said,
[21:59] that he might reconcile both,
[22:01] that's the Jews and the Gentiles.
[22:03] He might reconcile both Jews and Gentiles
[22:06] in,
[22:07] I can't hear you,
[22:08] in,
[22:09] in,
[22:11] our body.
