[0:19] So, we saw in our previous session how there's a young man called Apollos.
[0:26] But it was so nice that Paul, when he decided to end his second missionary journey to go back to Jerusalem,
[0:34] it was so nice that in Acts chapter 18, the Bible says that the people actually wanted him to stay longer.
[0:44] All right?
[0:44] And then verse 21 says that, verse 20 says that,
[0:49] Well, when they desired him to tarry longer time with them, he consented not.
[0:55] But he bade them farewell, saying,
[0:58] I must by all means keep the feast that cometh in Jerusalem.
[1:03] But I will return again unto you, if God will.
[1:09] And he sailed from where?
[1:12] Ephesus.
[1:13] Ephesus.
[1:14] So, he was in Corinth, and he left Corinth, went to Ephesus, and then from Ephesus, he sailed to Sincria,
[1:26] and then from Sincria to Jerusalem.
[1:29] His mission was going to Jerusalem.
[1:31] But it looks like Paul had this hat for Ephesus.
[1:35] So, he had to go through Ephesus, spend some time there, and then left Ephesus to Sincria.
[1:42] You know, Ephesus is in the territory called, old King James uses Achaia.
[1:49] So, I think chapter 19, verse 10, the King James here uses the word Asia,
[1:55] but in some of the places, you see Achaia, A-C-H.
[1:58] So, the verse 27 of chapter 18, he says that, and when he is disposed to pass through Achaia,
[2:05] all right, the brethren wrote to him talking about Apollos.
[2:08] So, Paul, initially, when he was going on his second missionary journey in Acts chapter 16,
[2:14] God didn't allow him to preach the word of God in Asia.
[2:18] That's when he ended up in Europe, if you remember.
[2:20] But when he now was returning from the second missionary journey,
[2:24] he went through Asia, Achaia, and he went through Ephesus.
[2:29] Paul had a very interesting heart for Ephesus.
[2:32] But the reason why I brought you to chapter 18 again is,
[2:35] verse 23 says,
[2:36] After he had spent some time there, he departed and went over all the country of the Galicia
[2:41] and Phrygia in order, strengthening all the disciples.
[2:46] And a certain Jew named Apollos, born at Alexandria,
[2:51] an eloquent man, mighty in the scriptures, came to Ephesus.
[2:55] Yes.
[2:56] You know, but what happened is, I think, is the verse, Acts 18, 18.
[3:00] And Paul, after he tarried there yet a good while,
[3:04] and then took his leave of the brethren,
[3:07] and sailed then into Syria,
[3:10] and with him Prisla and Aquila.
[3:14] So, they left Corinth, went to Syria,
[3:16] but Prisla and Aquila were with him, having shown his head at Syngria.
[3:21] So, but then he left Prisla and Aquila in Ephesus.
[3:28] He didn't go with them to Jerusalem.
[3:30] So, it happened that Apollos, this verse 24,
[3:35] Apollos came to, he was born, Alexandria,
[3:39] came to Ephesus.
[3:41] And in Ephesus, he was speaking so boldly,
[3:44] but what had happened was that Paul left Prisla and Aquila in Ephesus.
[3:50] So, in the next verse, chapter 18, verse 19, it said there,
[3:54] and he came to Ephesus and left them there.
[3:56] So, he left Prisla and Aquila there,
[3:58] and he himself went to the synagogue.
[4:00] So, Paul left Prisla and Aquila in Ephesus.
[4:03] Then Apollos came to Ephesus.
[4:06] It is very interesting that Prisla and Aquila
[4:08] were at the right place at the right time
[4:09] when Apollos came,
[4:11] because Apollos was an eloquent man,
[4:15] which means when he spoke to you,
[4:17] you are very likely to be convinced.
[4:19] He knew how to talk.
[4:20] He was a good speaker.
[4:22] And his advantage was that he was also raised in Alexandria,
[4:26] which happened to be one of the largest cities in those days,
[4:30] and well-educated.
[4:31] And he, as I told you the other time,
[4:33] he was mighty in scriptures.
[4:35] So, somebody who is mighty in scriptures,
[4:37] when they meet you,
[4:38] and you don't really know your way strongly in scripture,
[4:41] they are likely to convince you.
[4:43] And Apollos will convince you,
[4:45] and will be able to help you towards the ways of God,
[4:49] but not the complete ways of God.
[4:50] Apollos was mighty in scripture.
[4:55] Prisla and Aquila were there.
[4:56] Verse 25 says,
[4:58] and he was instructed of the Lord,
[4:59] being perfect in the spirit.
[5:00] He spoke and taught diligently.
[5:02] We spoke about it last week.
[5:03] Knowing only the baptism of John.
[5:06] Don't forget that.
[5:07] The next verse says that,
[5:08] 26,
[5:09] that he began to speak boldly.
[5:10] Whom when Aquila and Prisla had heard,
[5:13] they took him unto them,
[5:16] and expanded unto him the ways of God more perfectly.
[5:18] You know what I like about Apollos?
[5:21] He was a teachable man.
[5:23] But usually,
[5:24] when you have information,
[5:25] and you are well-learned,
[5:26] sometimes you can be so pompous,
[5:29] it's difficult to teach you.
[5:30] Bible says that,
[5:31] knowledge puffs up.
[5:33] 1 Corinthians 8, 1.
[5:34] Knowledge puffs up,
[5:36] but love builds up.
[5:39] So, usually,
[5:41] sometimes it can be very difficult
[5:42] to explain things to people who believe they know.
[5:46] When people believe they know,
[5:47] they are in their know,
[5:48] it's hard,
[5:49] especially when they are religious.
[5:52] And they believe in some deep things
[5:54] they think you don't know.
[5:56] But Aquila and Prisla
[5:57] took Apollos to their side.
[6:00] They took him unto them,
[6:02] and expounded.
[6:04] They explained.
[6:07] He knew the way of the Lord,
[6:08] but not completely.
[6:09] So, they explained,
[6:11] expounded the way of the Lord to him perfectly.
[6:13] perfectly.
[6:13] Perfectly.
[6:14] And,
[6:14] he received it.
[6:16] That's the beautiful thing about
[6:17] a genuine,
[6:19] godly person.
[6:21] A genuine,
[6:21] godly person
[6:22] doesn't struggle to receive
[6:23] God's word genuinely.
[6:25] even though it might not be what they expect.
[6:30] Once they know that this is what the scripture is saying,
[6:32] and this is what the word of God is saying in truth,
[6:34] they are easy.
[6:36] They are more open to embrace it and receive it.
[6:39] So,
[6:40] they expounded to him
[6:41] more completely.
[6:43] Then,
[6:44] he decided to go to
[6:45] the other parts of,
[6:47] let's look at the New King James,
[6:48] verse 27.
[6:49] And so,
[6:50] when he had desired to pass through Achaia,
[6:52] the brethren wrote,
[6:54] and exhorting the disciples to receive him,
[6:58] and when he arrived,
[7:00] he greatly helped those
[7:01] who had believed through grace.
[7:03] So,
[7:04] he became a great blessing
[7:05] to the church,
[7:07] and we saw how he disputed
[7:09] in the synagogues
[7:10] and proving that Jesus,
[7:12] proof from scriptures,
[7:13] he proved from the scriptures.
[7:15] The scriptures are unambiguous
[7:16] about Jesus,
[7:18] who Jesus Christ is.
[7:20] But sometimes,
[7:21] if you are not well taught,
[7:22] you will miss that.
[7:23] You will be able to see.
[7:24] So,
[7:25] he proved to them
[7:26] from scripture,
[7:27] not just from his opinion
[7:29] or his knowledge
[7:30] or academia,
[7:31] but from scripture.
[7:34] The strength of our Christianity
[7:35] must be built
[7:37] on scripture,
[7:39] what we understand
[7:40] from scripture.
[7:42] So,
[7:42] then,
[7:43] chapter 19 comes in.
[7:45] He says that it happened
[7:46] while Apollos was at Corinth.
[7:50] So,
[7:50] he had moved
[7:51] from Ephesus,
[7:54] Achaia,
[7:54] and he was in Corinth.
[7:56] That's Paul.
[7:57] That's the third missionary journey
[7:58] of Paul.
[7:59] Okay.
[8:00] Did you notice
[8:00] Paul's interest in Ephesus?
[8:02] Paul's interest in Ephesus,
[8:05] when he started
[8:06] his third missionary journey,
[8:07] he's been to Jerusalem,
[8:08] now he's traveling again.
[8:10] He comes to Ephesus.
[8:12] In the first instance,
[8:13] I told you,
[8:14] the second missionary journey
[8:15] wanted to go through
[8:16] Ephesus,
[8:17] Asia,
[8:18] but Asia Minor,
[8:19] but the Holy Spirit
[8:20] did not permit him.
[8:21] When he was returning,
[8:23] he went through Ephesus.
[8:24] Now,
[8:24] when he was going
[8:25] to the third missionary journey,
[8:27] he went to Ephesus again.
[8:30] So,
[8:31] he says that
[8:31] it happened
[8:32] while Apollos
[8:34] was at Corinth
[8:35] that Paul,
[8:36] having passed
[8:37] through the upper regions,
[8:40] came to Ephesus.
[8:42] Where did Priscilla and Aquila
[8:45] meet Apollos?
[8:46] Ephesus.
[8:48] So,
[8:48] Ephesus
[8:49] was the second largest city.
[8:52] Ephesus
[8:52] was the capital
[8:54] of the Roman government
[8:57] in Asia.
[8:58] Asia.
[8:59] the Roman government
[8:59] So,
[9:00] in Asia.
[9:01] Asia was a very important
[9:03] territory.
[9:04] Asia and Africa
[9:05] during the Roman Empire.
[9:07] Asia and Africa
[9:07] was a very important
[9:09] territory
[9:11] for the Roman authorities.
[9:13] So,
[9:13] Asia was so important
[9:15] and the capital
[9:16] of the Roman rule
[9:17] in Asia
[9:18] was Ephesus.
[9:20] So,
[9:20] that told you,
[9:21] Ephesus
[9:21] was a very important
[9:22] city.
[9:24] and not just that,
[9:26] Ephesus
[9:27] was also
[9:27] wealthier city
[9:29] than Corinth.

[9:33] you invariably
[9:34] will affect
[9:35] more territories.

[9:37] when a letter
[9:38] was written
[9:38] to Asia
[9:39] from heaven,
[9:40] Jesus in Revelation
[9:41] chapter 1
[9:42] verse 11,
[9:43] it mentions
[9:43] some seven churches.
[9:45] All these churches
[9:46] were cities
[9:46] and the churches
[9:47] were named
[9:48] after the cities.
[9:49] So,
[9:49] he said,
[9:49] write these letters
[9:50] to the churches
[9:51] that are in Asia.
[9:52] Then,
[9:52] he starts with
[9:53] Ephesus.
[9:54] To Ephesus,
[9:55] to Spina,
[9:56] to Pergamos,
[9:57] Titeria,
[9:57] Sardis,
[9:58] Philadelphia,
[9:59] Laodicea.
[10:00] And there were
[10:00] other cities
[10:02] as well,
[10:03] but these were
[10:03] seven major ones.
[10:05] The other cities
[10:05] there were
[10:06] Hierapolis
[10:07] and Colossae.
[10:09] Colossae was also
[10:10] part of all
[10:10] those territories.
[10:12] Now,
[10:12] Ephesus
[10:13] was a chief city
[10:15] in those times.
[10:16] So,
[10:16] if you can
[10:17] take Ephesus,
[10:18] you are going
[10:19] to have a bigger
[10:19] influence because
[10:20] a lot of
[10:21] commercial activities
[10:23] were all
[10:23] going towards
[10:24] Ephesus.
[10:25] That is why
[10:26] certain religions
[10:27] have major
[10:28] appetites,
[10:29] not just for
[10:29] UK,
[10:30] but for London.
[10:32] There's a reason
[10:33] why God
[10:33] placed us here.
[10:35] If the revival
[10:36] can kick off
[10:37] in London,
[10:37] all the other
[10:40] major cities
[10:41] of the United
[10:42] Kingdom and
[10:42] Europe
[10:43] will follow
[10:43] suit.

[11:12] become a
[11:12] major hub.
[11:13] That's where
[11:14] Paul's missionary
[11:15] journey was
[11:16] launched from.
[11:17] And then they
[11:17] went back to
[11:18] Antioch.
[11:19] So,
[11:19] Antioch became
[11:20] a major hub.
[11:20] But I submit
[11:21] to you,
[11:21] after a while,
[11:23] Ephesus became
[11:23] the next hub.

[11:25] it was usually,
[11:26] it was actually
[11:27] Jerusalem.
[11:28] Then it became
[11:28] Antioch,
[11:29] and the gospel
[11:30] started spreading
[11:30] from Antioch.
[11:31] And now it
[11:32] became Ephesus.

[11:34] started spreading
[11:35] throughout the

[11:36] from Ephesus.

[11:38] Ephesus was
[11:39] such a very
[11:40] significant
[11:40] and important
[11:42] territory and
[11:43] city.

[11:44] it probably
[11:45] would explain
[11:46] why Paul
[11:47] had an eye
[11:48] and major
[11:49] interest in
[11:50] Ephesus.
[11:51] And in
[11:52] Ephesus,
[11:53] Paul,
[11:54] theologians
[11:54] believed that
[11:55] he actually
[11:56] lived in
[11:56] Priscilla and
[11:57] Aquila.
[11:58] Because Priscilla
[11:58] and Aquila
[11:58] was quite
[11:59] successful
[11:59] business people.
[12:01] And they
[12:01] had a house
[12:01] because there
[12:02] was a church
[12:02] in their
[12:03] house.
[12:04] And Ephesus,

[12:07] taught about
[12:08] Dubai
[12:08] or UAE

[12:12] you visit

[12:17] people don't
[12:17] go there

[16:19] the fables,
[16:21] things that
[16:22] really would
[16:23] not edify
[16:23] quickly.

[16:25] about certain
[16:26] things that
[16:26] were going
[16:26] on in
[16:27] certain parts
[16:28] of the
[16:28] world.
[16:29] Some
[16:29] pastors,
[16:31] they challenge
[16:32] each other.

[16:33] more powerful
[16:34] than you.
[16:34] My church
[16:35] is bigger
[16:35] than your
[16:36] church.
[16:36] They can
[16:36] go on
[16:37] radio and
[16:37] insult who
[16:38] does he

[16:43] guys Christians
