[0:00] Thank you for tuning into this message by David Entry. Every true revival is a product of the strong preaching of God's word. May you receive a word from this message that will spark a revival in you.
[0:12] Acts chapter 24. After five days, Ananias, the high priest, descended with the elders and with a certain orator named Tertullius, who informed the governor against Paul.
[0:29] And when he was called forth, Tertullius began to accuse him, saying, seeing that by thee we enjoy great quietness and that very worthy deeds are done unto the nation by thy providence.
[0:48] We accept it always and in all place, most noble Felix, with all thankfulness.
[0:57] Notwithstanding that I be not further tedious unto thee, I pray thee that thou wouldst hear us of thy clemency a few ways.
[1:07] For we have found this man a pestilent fellow, a mover of sedition amongst all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sects of the Nazarenes,
[1:21] who also had gone about to profane the temple, whom we took and would have judged according to our law.
[1:29] But the chief captain, Lysias, came upon us and with great violence, took him away out of our hands, commanding his accusers to come unto thee,
[1:42] by examining him of whom thyself mayest take knowledge of all these things, whereof we accuse him.
[1:51] And the Jews also assented, saying these things were so.
[1:55] Then Paul, after that the governor had beckoned unto him to speak, answered,
[2:03] For as much as I know that thou hast been of many years a judge unto this nation,
[2:08] I do the more cheerfully answer for myself, because thou mayest understand that there are yet but twelve days since I went up to Jerusalem for to worship.
[2:21] And they neither found me in the temple disputing with any man, neither raising up the people, neither in the synagogue nor in the city,
[2:33] neither can they prove the things whereof they now accuse me.
[2:37] But this I confess unto thee, that after the way which they call heresy, so worship I the God of my fathers,
[2:47] believing all things which are written in the law and in the prophets,
[2:52] and have hope towards God, which they themselves also allow,
[2:57] that there shall be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and the unjust.
[3:03] And herein do I exercise myself, to have always a good conscience, void of offense towards God and towards man.
[3:14] Now, after many years, I came to bring arms to my nation and offerings,
[3:20] whereupon certain Jews from Asia found me purified in the temple,
[3:25] neither with multitude nor with tumult,
[3:29] whom ought to have been here before thee and object if they had ought against me.
[3:36] Or else, let this same here say,
[3:42] if they have found any evil doing in me,
[3:45] while I stood before the council,
[3:47] except it be for this one voice,
[3:50] touching the resurrection of the dead,
[3:52] I am called into question by you this day.
[3:55] And when Felix heard these things,
[3:58] having more perfect knowledge of that way,
[4:01] he deferred them and said,
[4:04] when Lycius, the chief captain, shall come down,
[4:07] I will know the uttermost of your matter.
[4:12] And he commanded a centurion to keep Paul and to let him have liberty
[4:18] and that he should forbid none of his acquaintances to minister or to come to him.
[4:26] And after certain days, when Felix came with his wife,
[4:30] Jusilla, which was a Jewess,
[4:32] he sent for Paul and heard him concerning the faith in Christ.
[4:37] And as he reasoned in righteousness, temperance, and judgment to come,
[4:43] Felix trembled and answered,
[4:44] Go thy way for this time.
[4:46] When I have a convenient season, I will call thee.
[4:50] He hoped also that money should have been given him of Paul,
[4:56] that he might lose him.
[4:58] Wherefore, he sent for him the orphaner and commuted with him.
[5:03] But after two years, Paul Shaw's festers came into Felix's room,
[5:09] and Felix, willing to show the Jews of pleasure, left Paul bound.
[5:15] Here ends the reading of God's word.
[5:17] Let's pray.
[5:18] Father, thank you.
[5:19] Holy Spirit, navigate us through the truth of your word
[5:23] and reveal Christ to us.
[5:25] Let us understand you better through your word.
[5:28] And let us end the service and this message with a pure revelation from Jesus
[5:36] concerning your word and your purpose in our lives.
[5:39] We thank you.
[5:39] Bless you in Jesus' name.
[5:41] Amen.
[5:43] As I taught last week, I tried to cover as much as possible beyond what I read.
[5:48] So we ended by understanding the fact that the Sadducees and the Pharisees
[5:53] started fighting among themselves.
[5:55] They would have turned Paul apart.
[5:57] But the centurion went in and took Paul out and kept him in the barracks.
[6:03] And then from the verse 11, the Bible says,
[6:06] At night, the following night, the Lord stood by him, Paul, and said,
[6:12] Be of good cheer, Paul, for you have testified for me in Jerusalem.
[6:18] So you must also bear witness at Rome.
[6:24] I think Acts chapter 19, verse 21, it says that when these things were accomplished,
[6:29] Paul purposed in his spirit when he has passed through Macedonia and Achaia to go to Jerusalem,
[6:35] saying, After I have been there, I must also see Rome.
[6:40] He's not going to Rome for tourism.
[6:42] So don't misinterpret the sea as sightseeing.
[6:48] He was not going for sightseeing.
[6:53] He just had to step in Rome.
[6:56] Romans chapter 1, verse 11,
[6:59] For I long to see you, that I may impart spiritual gifts,
[7:04] so that you may be established.
[7:06] So his purpose was to advance the work of God in the capital of the empire.
[7:14] The capital of the Roman empire was Rome.
[7:19] That's where the seat of government was.
[7:21] That's where the emperor was.
[7:24] Emperor Claudius was there at that time, followed by Nero.
[7:28] So if you can influence Rome, it's easy for the influence to spread across the whole region in the empire.
[7:38] So he said, I must go to Rome.
[7:40] Now it's interesting the conditions under which he got to Rome.
[7:44] Jesus appears to him.
[7:45] He went to Jerusalem.
[7:47] He was advised to go and do the rituals.
[7:50] He didn't finish.
[7:51] He was there.
[7:51] And then I think he was waiting for the priest,
[7:54] because you can't sacrifice without priests.
[7:55] Priests are ordained by God, appointed from amongst men to offer sacrifices, receive an offer.
[8:03] So in the Old Testament, you don't do sacrifices without priests.
[8:06] So if Paul was going to do something, he was waiting for the priest to come.
[8:09] And then the people saw him.
[8:11] The Asian Jews saw him.
[8:13] And there was a riot.
[8:15] He was arrested.
[8:16] Do you know why he was arrested?
[8:18] The captain thought he was the Egyptian.
[8:20] The Egyptians who had been causing problems.
[8:23] So he went in not to go and rescue him.
[8:26] First of all, remember this.
[8:27] The purpose was to kill Paul.
[8:30] The Bible says that when they were about to kill him, they wanted to kill him.
[8:34] And then the captain and his soldiers went in and seized Paul.
[8:39] They were not going to rescue him, but they were trying to calm the problem.
[8:44] Okay.
[8:44] So they went in to go and seize Paul.
[8:47] All right.
[8:48] He wanted to go and stop the commotion by taking Paul.
[8:53] Because Paul is the main reason by removing him from the situation.
[8:58] That's why he went.
[8:59] And then in chapter 21, I think verse 28, he said,
[9:04] I thought you were the Egyptian.
[9:06] Are you not the Egyptian?
[9:08] And he said, no, I'm a Hebrew.
[9:10] I'm not Egyptian.
[9:11] Let me, allow me to talk to the people.
[9:14] So the centurion, he didn't think Paul was a Roman citizen.
[9:18] Then in chapter 22, verse 24, verse 25 and verse 26.
[9:24] Verse 24 says that, chapter 22, verse 24.
[9:27] And the commander ordered him to be brought into the barracks
[9:31] and said that he should be examined under severe beating.
[9:37] Okay.
[9:38] So that he might find out what was wrong with this guy.
[9:41] Now look at the next verse.
[9:42] Then Paul lets them know he's a Roman.
[9:46] And as they bound him with their thorns, Paul said to the centurion who stood by,
[9:51] is it lawful for you to scourge a man who is a Roman, uncondemned?
[9:55] They said, ah, you really?
[9:57] So he went and told the commander that the guy is a Roman.
[10:01] Don't touch him.
[10:03] So watch this.
[10:03] The commander didn't come to rescue him because he found out he was Roman.
[10:08] Do you understand what I'm saying?
[10:10] This is very important to understand.
[10:12] Having understood that.
[10:13] So they took him.
[10:15] And he said the next day, the Sahindrin came to come and accuse him.
[10:20] So he brought Paul before the Sahindrin.
[10:23] Chapter 23.
[10:23] And Paul starts talking.
[10:25] He said, listen, I'm a Pharisee, son of a Pharisee.
[10:28] Why are you accusing me?
[10:29] And then there was confusion between the Pharisees and the Sadducees.
[10:33] So the confusion was so strong, the commander feared that they would actually tear Paul apart.
[10:40] So he quickly rushed in command, fearing less Paul might be pulled to pieces by them,
[10:46] commanded the soldiers to go down and take him by force from amongst them.
[10:53] All right.
[10:53] Now, Paul was taken back into the barracks.
[10:56] Then Jesus also shows up to Paul.
[10:57] He said, what you are going through, don't worry about it.
[11:01] I'm still with you.
[11:03] Jesus said, don't be discouraged.
[11:05] That tells you Paul was really getting tired now.
[11:09] Jesus told him that, be of good cheer, Paul.
[11:11] For us, you have testified for me.
[11:15] Let's go to the New American Standard Version of King James.
[11:20] Thank you.
[11:21] On that night, immediately following, the Lord stood at his right, at his side,
[11:27] and said, take courage.
[11:29] For as you have solemnly witnessed to my cause at Jerusalem, you must witness at Rome.
[11:39] Okay.
[11:40] On the day of Pentacles, Jesus, before the day of Pentacles, Jesus told them in Acts 1, verse 8,
[11:45] that you shall be endued with power after the Holy Spirit has come upon you.
[11:53] And you shall...
[11:56] You see, one of the main reasons why the Holy Spirit come, for God's work now, Acts 23, verse 11,
[12:01] you have been a witness to me in Jerusalem.
[12:04] You must be a witness to me at Rome.
[12:05] You have done the Jerusalem job.
[12:07] So, Jesus told them, you shall be...
[12:10] When the Holy Spirit comes upon you, what happens to you?
[12:13] You shall be witnesses.
[12:14] The Greek word, matus.
[12:18] Okay.
[12:19] Matus.
[12:20] It's the same Greek word that is translated matai.
[12:25] A matai is someone who is actually a witness,
[12:29] but will witness even if it means they will lose their lives.
[12:34] Witness to lose their life.
[12:36] So, there's no really...
[12:38] When he says that you are going to be witnesses,
[12:40] he's talking about, in spite of all the things that will come unto you,
[12:45] you will stand for me.
[12:46] You will testify of me.
[12:48] So, when Paul, in Acts chapter 22, in Jerusalem,
[12:53] when he was telling them the story,
[12:55] he said, I was in Jerusalem, verse 17, Acts chapter 22,
[12:59] and I was in the temple praying,
[13:01] and in a trance, the Lord appeared to me,
[13:04] and he said to me, Paul, lift down quickly.
[13:07] Lift down quickly, for they will not receive your testimony concerning me.
[13:15] And he said, no, no, Lord, I don't think you are getting this right.
[13:19] They know my story.
[13:21] And verse 20 says that, look at verse 20,
[13:24] they know my story.
[13:24] When the blood of your matus.
[13:30] So, he used that word.
[13:32] Stephen was your witness.
[13:34] And they saw me when I was there when we executed Stephen.
[13:38] I was part of the team.
[13:39] Because, now I understand what it means to be a witness.
[13:43] And they know my testimony.
[13:44] They can't fight against me.
[13:45] God said, Jesus said, just lift down.
[13:48] Now, he goes and then comes back to Jerusalem after a long time.
[13:53] And Jesus appears to him after he's been beaten and arrested.
[13:57] Jesus said, you have witnessed.
[13:59] You have been.
[14:00] Do you see where this thing is going?
[14:03] Witness.
[14:03] Witness.
[14:04] You have testified of me.
[14:05] Jesus said that you have solemnly, you have done it right.
[14:10] With the purity of your heart.
[14:12] With an entire being.
[14:14] You don't mind even dying.
[14:16] But you are not dying now.
[14:18] You have witnessed.
[14:19] He was killing the witnesses.
[14:21] Now, he became a witness for what he was killing the people for.
[14:26] He saw witness Stephen executed.
[14:31] He said, Lord, I understand what it means to be a true witness of yours.
[14:36] I'm going to stand as a witness.
[14:37] Even if they won't believe me, I'll stand as a witness.
[14:40] Now, when Jesus appeared to him again in the prison, in the barracks, he said, now you have witnessed to me.
[14:47] But interestingly, no.
[14:48] He was so bent on going to Jerusalem.
[14:51] But he didn't stay long in Jerusalem.
[14:52] The next day.
[14:54] Isn't he?
[14:56] He forgot him.
[14:57] Acts chapter 21 verse 17.
[14:59] Then he got to Jerusalem.
[15:00] The next day he went to see James.
[15:02] Right?
[15:02] The following day, Paul went to see James.
[15:06] And James advised him, go to the temple.
[15:09] So, he found himself in the temple.
[15:11] And he was in the temple for about seven days.
[15:16] Because the people who are going to the Nazarite ritual, they start for a month.
[15:21] But the last seven days, you go into the temple.
[15:24] And you stay in the temple for the six days.
[15:26] And the last day, you shave your hair.
[15:27] Sacrifice all the souls.
[15:28] So, he joined them when they got to their last seven days.
[15:32] Am I communicating something?
[15:33] Pastor, why all this detail?
[15:34] You get it.
[15:37] So, he joined them in the last seven days.
[15:41] And then, I believe, by the ending of those seven days, they caught him.
[15:45] He wasn't free again to live normal life.
[15:47] After following the advice, he finds himself in the temple.
[15:52] And from the temple, he was in custody the rest of his life.
[15:56] And then, he was in custody.
[15:58] And watch this.
[16:01] The officer, the commander, said, bring him into the barracks.
[16:05] But, whilst he was in the barracks, information got to him through his nephew.
[16:13] That, from verse 12, Acts chapter 23, from verse 12.
[16:17] About over 40 men have bound themselves together that we will not eat or taste anything.
[16:25] They've made an oath saying that they will neither eat nor drink till they kill Paul.
[16:30] This is serious, you know.
[16:31] I don't know what happened afterwards.
[16:34] Because Paul was not dying.
[16:35] So, what are you going to do?
[16:37] Did you hear that?
[16:38] You have made a vow that you will not eat and drink till we kill the guy.
[16:42] Okay.
[16:43] Then, you will die.
[16:45] Because the guy is not dying.
[16:48] So, when they made this, then they went to the chief priest and told him,
[16:53] Commander, commander, tell commander to bring the prisoner.
[16:56] As he comes, we will kill him on the way.
[17:00] So, Paul's sister's son was there.
[17:04] He heard it.
[17:04] How he heard it is supernatural.
[17:06] I explained the sovereignty of God.
[17:08] In fact, he went and told Paul.
[17:09] Because Paul was a Roman, he had liberty.
[17:12] People could come to him.
[17:13] So, the boy got access.
[17:15] He must have also been a Roman.
[17:17] Went and told Paul.
[17:17] And Paul, he calls the guard.
[17:20] Paul calls the centurion.
[17:22] One of the centurion said, come.
[17:23] Come here.
[17:24] Come here.
[17:25] Take this boy to the commander.
[17:27] When you are Roman, you enjoy some privileges, son.
[17:29] A prisoner.
[17:30] He was sending the centurion.
[17:33] He said, take this boy to the commander.
[17:35] The centurion said, okay, yes, I will do it.
[17:36] And he took the boy.
[17:37] Went to the commander.
[17:38] And the commander held the boy by hand.
[17:41] He said, come.
[17:42] And the boy told him what the situation was.
[17:44] And that very night, 9 p.m., that very evening, 9 p.m., he called two centurions.
[17:50] A centurion is a soldier who takes care of 100 soldiers.
[17:54] So, two centurions, 200 soldiers.
[17:56] He called two centurions, and he told them that, come.
[17:59] Tonight, I need you to take Paul from Jerusalem.
[18:03] You are taking him to Caesarea, where the governor is.
[18:07] So, take 70 horsemen and 200 men of sword, 470.
[18:15] Protect and provide him a beast.
[18:18] Some translations say horse, but it's believed it's a donkey.
[18:22] And let Paul ride and let them guard him all the way 60 miles away.
[18:27] So, they took Paul from Jerusalem.
[18:31] And the first set of 470, they took Paul all the way till they got to Antipatras.
[18:37] And when they got to Antipatras, the 400 left.
[18:40] And then the horsemen now took him for the rest of the gent.
[18:44] The next day, they left the horsemen to go on with him and return.
[18:49] So, they returned to their barracks.
[18:51] All right.
[18:51] So, now, that's the background to the story.
[18:54] And then, when he sent them, he wrote a letter.
[18:58] Let's look at it.
[18:59] Verse 33.
[19:01] He wrote a letter in the following manner.
[19:04] Claudius, that's his name.
[19:07] The commander is called Claudius Lysias.
[19:11] Okay.
[19:11] It's believed that he was given certain privileges and favor by the emperor who was called Claudius Caesar.
[19:20] He said, Claudius Lysias.
[19:21] To the most excellent Governor Felix.
[19:25] Greetings.
[19:26] This man was seized by the Jews and was about to be killed by them.
[19:33] True or false?
[19:35] Coming with the troops, I rescued him.
[19:38] True or false?
[19:40] He rescued him.
[19:42] Having learned that he was a Roman.
[19:44] Is that why he came to rescue him?
[19:46] He's lying.
[19:47] He's a liar.
[19:48] Say that I rescued him because I thought he was an Egyptian.
[19:50] I came to take him because I really thought he was an Egyptian and for us to deal with him.
[19:57] Only to find out that he was Roman.
[19:59] And so, I mistakenly actually bound him.
[20:01] He didn't confess all that.
[20:04] He said, I came to rescue him.
[20:06] Having learned that he was a Roman.
[20:09] It's after they rescued him and they were about to beat him.
[20:11] That's when he was told the guy is a Roman.
[20:14] But everyone wants themselves to look good.
[20:16] So, they put their right foot forward.
[20:17] He didn't want to put himself in trouble anyway.
[20:19] So, he wrote a letter.
[20:20] Having rescued him, I brought him before their council.
[20:25] Right?
[20:26] So, he says that,
[20:28] I found out, verse 29,
[20:30] whom I perceived to be accused of questions of their law,
[20:34] but to have nothing laid to his charge worthy of death or of bounds.
[20:40] And when it was told me how that the Jews laid wait for the man,
[20:46] I sent straight away to thee and gave commandments to his accusers also to say before thee what they had against him by child.
[20:57] Verse 31 says that,
[20:59] Then the soldiers, as it was commanded them, took Paul and brought him to Antipatras.
[21:06] And then eventually they got to,
[21:08] Verse 34 says,
[21:08] And when the governor had read the letter, he asked of what province he was.
[21:14] And when he understood that he was of Cilicia, I will hear thee, said he, when thine accusers are also come.
[21:23] And he commanded him to be kept in Herod's judgment hall.
[21:28] And how many days?
[21:31] Five days.
[21:32] Five days.
[21:33] So, really, five days afterwards, don't forget this, okay?
[21:38] Five days afterwards, the high priest, he's an old man.
[21:42] He had to do a whole journey for about 60 miles.
[21:46] Simply, he shouldn't have done that journey.
[21:48] But he wants to kill Paul.
[21:51] When people are after you,
[21:52] they can inconvenience themselves so that they can mess you up.
[21:58] Especially when Satan enters their hearts.
[22:00] Don't underestimate someone into whose heart Satan has entered.
[22:06] They can do all kinds of unreasonable things just to hurt you and frustrate you.
[22:11] They can risk their jobs to promote somebody just to demote you.
[22:16] But they will all fall if God is with you.
[22:21] Now, the high priest came down with the eldest and a certain orator named Tertullius.
[22:27] They came with a prosecutor.
[22:29] They came with a barrister who was a narrator.
[22:33] When he speaks, he just will convince.
[22:36] These give evidence of the governor against Paul.
[22:38] Now, permit me to tell you something little about Felix the governor.
[22:42] Felix was one of the unique persons in history,
[22:49] in the history of the Roman Empire,
[22:51] who rose to the higher office in a very strange way.
[22:55] He used to be a former slave.
[22:58] A slave that does the lowest of society.
[23:01] And he rose to be a governor.
[23:03] How?
[23:04] A slave.
[23:05] A free slave.
[23:06] He had a brother called Pallas.
[23:09] Marcus Antonio's Pallas.
[23:11] His original, his full name is Marcus Antonio's Felix.
[23:15] And he had a brother called Marcus Antonio's Pallas.
[23:20] This is not in the Bible.
[23:21] This is extra-biblical information from history.
[23:25] And Pallas was a slave who became free with his brother.
[23:30] But he had the privilege of playing in the royal courts
[23:36] with this current, that current, Claudius Caesar,
[23:41] when he was a boy.
[23:43] So it was believed that when Caesar became Caesar,
[23:46] this guy had special privileges with Caesar.
[23:49] And much more.
[23:50] He also became very wealthy.
[23:52] Very, very wealthy through business deals.
[23:55] He became so wealthy, he was actually an advisor
[23:58] in the courts of Caesar.
[24:00] Because of that, he used his influence and access to Caesar
[24:05] to promote his brother.
[24:07] So his brother was sent to Judea to be the governor there,
[24:11] or that territory, to be the governor there,
[24:13] because that was a very rough area.
[24:16] But this guy, watch this.
[24:17] The reason why this history is important is
[24:19] a former slave who has become a governor was very cruel.
[24:23] You see, when people have never tasted power,
[24:27] and have been...
[24:28] People who have never been in power,
[24:32] when they get power...
[24:36] They can buy a car they can't afford
[24:39] just to announce that, listen, me to have arrived.
[24:45] Now, I might say it's not bad.
[24:47] I'm just trying to tell you that
[24:49] those of us who have not been financially privileged
[24:51] is likely to be trapped easily with monetary opportunities.
[24:57] Marcus Antonius Philips,
[25:00] when he became a governor because of his...
[25:03] He was known to be one of the cruelest governors in the...
[25:09] He created...
[25:10] He was killing people left, right, and center.
[25:13] The slightest thing will kill you.
[25:14] He was so evil.
[25:17] He was so dirty.
[25:18] He was known.
[25:20] In fact, and because in Caesar's palace,
[25:23] because he had an insider,
[25:24] he took the liberties to misbehave,
[25:26] and he knew that even if he's reported,
[25:29] his brother will silence everything.
[25:31] So he was really taking the liberties,
[25:33] killing people.
[25:34] He killed people who rose up against his authority.
[25:37] He will kill you.
[25:38] All mafias, he will kill you.
[25:40] If you are like a mafia, he will kill you.
[25:41] And at the same time,
[25:42] he will use the mafias to kill his enemies.
[25:45] He will pay...
[25:45] He's a rough guy.
[25:46] He killed one high priest called Jonathan.
[25:50] He killed...
[25:50] He murdered him.
[25:51] The guy was brutal.
[25:53] In his reign,
[25:54] he killed more people than anyone has killed.
[25:57] He made more crosses.
[25:58] He made educating people.
[25:59] That was wicked.
[26:01] He was known to be one of the cruelest.
[26:03] So the Jews hated him.
[26:06] It was before this, Felix,
[26:08] they took Paul,
[26:09] and Tertullius came to say that,
[26:11] we know you have been a good man.
[26:13] Tertullius.
[26:14] He was so cruel.
[26:16] That's why he was asking for bribe from Paul.
[26:19] He loved money.
[26:21] He married a woman called Drusilla.
[26:24] Drusilla was a teenager
[26:26] who was in her second marriage.
[26:30] Drusilla was in her second marriage.
[26:33] She was...
[26:33] Drusilla was such a pretty princess.
[26:38] She was the last daughter of Agrippa I,
[26:43] the one who killed...
[26:44] who wanted to kill Peter,
[26:45] killed James.
[26:47] Herod Agrippa I.
[26:48] That's his last daughter.
[26:50] Very pretty.
[26:52] He got married when he was a teenager
[26:54] and divorced and married a king,
[26:57] another king.
[26:59] And then when he married the king,
[27:01] Felix saw the girl and said,
[27:03] this girl is good.
[27:05] She must be mine.
[27:06] Meanwhile, he's married about twice already,
[27:10] Felix.
[27:11] He saw this lady and tried to win her
[27:15] from her husband
[27:16] and consulted some magicians and sorcerers
[27:20] to use their magical powers to win the girl
[27:24] and tell her,
[27:24] you are married to a wrong person.
[27:25] You are about to die.
[27:27] Felix.
[27:29] Felix eventually married Drusilla.
[27:32] He married her,
[27:35] who used to be somebody's wife,
[27:37] took her and married her,
[27:39] Drusilla.
[27:39] And at that time,
[27:40] she was less than 20 years
[27:41] when Paul was there.
[27:43] Less than 20.
[27:44] Third marriage.
[27:46] Pretty girls, watch out.
[27:47] Don't be distracted by your niceness.
[27:53] It's nice to be nice,
[27:54] but anyway,
[27:56] so she married into power.
[27:59] Felix was so dirty,
[28:01] corrupt,
[28:02] very corrupt,
[28:03] very brutal,
[28:04] very malicious.
[28:05] It was this Felix,
[28:07] Tertullius,
[28:08] the orator was addressing,
[28:12] and you saw the way he addressed him.
[28:13] Let's look at it again.
[28:14] And then Tertullius,
[28:16] verse 3,
[28:17] chapter 24.
[28:18] And when he had called forth,
[28:20] Tertullius began to accuse Paul,
[28:22] him,
[28:23] Paul,
[28:23] saying that by thee
[28:24] we enjoy great quietness.
[28:26] Really?
[28:28] No,
[28:29] it's not true.
[28:31] By thee we enjoy great quietness,
[28:33] and that very worthy deeds
[28:34] are done unto this nation
[28:37] by thy providence.
[28:38] No.
[28:39] Unworthy deeds.
[28:40] So he's lying.
[28:42] He's in court.
[28:43] Lying.
[28:45] This is all politics.
[28:47] Just to defame somebody.
[28:50] Well,
[28:51] seeing that by thee
[28:52] we have unto that nation.
[28:54] Verse 3 says that
[28:55] we accept it always.
[28:57] It's not true.
[28:58] And in all places.
[29:00] Not true.
[29:01] Most noble Felix,
[29:03] with all thankfulness.
[29:06] So you have to big him up,
[29:08] lie to him,
[29:09] and everyone there,
[29:11] including Felix,
[29:12] knows that this guy is lying.
[29:13] Because,
[29:15] no,
[29:15] no,
[29:15] listen,
[29:16] Felix's cruelty
[29:17] was not secret.
[29:20] It's not secret.
[29:21] He will kill you.
[29:22] And everybody knew.
[29:23] So everybody there,
[29:24] including he himself,
[29:26] knew that this guy is lying.
[29:27] But let's get on with business.
[29:29] Then after saying all this,
[29:31] he turns on Paul,
[29:33] he said,
[29:33] not stand,
[29:34] then please bear us a bit,
[29:36] so I don't get you tired.
[29:38] I pray thee that you would hear us
[29:40] of thy clemency these few words.
[29:42] Then he turns on,
[29:44] for we have found this man,
[29:46] a pestilent fellow,
[29:48] a pestilent,
[29:49] pests,
[29:49] pests,
[29:50] pests.
[29:51] pests.
[29:53] You have to get some pesticides
[29:55] to clear these pests.
[29:59] We have found this guy,
[30:00] a pestilent fellow.
[30:02] He's creating problems.
[30:05] Paul never created any problem.
[30:07] Three charges.
[30:07] We found him,
[30:08] a pestilent fellow,
[30:10] a mover of sedition.
[30:11] That means that,
[30:12] stirring political riot
[30:14] against authority.
[30:16] Paul never got into politics.
[30:17] a mover of sedition
[30:19] amongst the Jews
[30:21] throughout the world.
[30:22] That means he's the one
[30:23] trying to overthrow
[30:24] the Roman government.
[30:26] And a ringleader
[30:27] of the sect
[30:29] of the Nazarenes.
[30:31] What's that?
[30:33] There's a difference
[30:34] between a Nazarene
[30:35] and a Nazarite.
[30:37] A Nazarite
[30:38] is someone who is
[30:40] undergoing a vow
[30:41] and some rituals
[30:42] to abstain from some things
[30:44] for spiritual
[30:45] or religious purposes.
[30:46] And Nazarene,
[30:48] according to Matthew 2,
[30:49] I think,
[30:50] verse 21, 22, 23.
[30:52] Let's look at it.
[30:53] I think that will help.
[30:54] Matthew,
[30:55] and arose and took
[30:55] the young child,
[30:56] that's Jesus Christ,
[30:57] and he came to Israel.
[30:58] The next verse,
[30:59] when he heard that
[31:00] Achilles did reign
[31:02] in Judea
[31:02] in the room
[31:03] of his father,
[31:04] Herod,
[31:05] he was afraid to go,
[31:07] notwithstanding,
[31:08] being one of God
[31:09] in a dream,
[31:10] he turned aside
[31:11] into the parts of Galilee.
[31:12] Verse 23 is the one
[31:13] I'm looking.
[31:13] And he came to dwell
[31:14] in the city called
[31:15] that it might be fulfilled,
[31:18] which was spoken
[31:19] of the prophet,
[31:20] he shall be called
[31:22] the Nazarene.
[31:23] So a Nazarene
[31:24] is someone
[31:24] who lives in Nazareth.
[31:27] Okay.
[31:28] So Jesus was not
[31:29] a Nazarite.
[31:30] He was a Nazarene.
[31:31] Now,
[31:32] in those days,
[31:33] Jesus,
[31:34] okay,
[31:34] or the original Hebrew
[31:36] is Yeshua.
[31:38] The English,
[31:39] we translate it
[31:40] Jesus,
[31:41] and it's the same
[31:42] as Joshua.
[31:43] Okay.
[31:44] So Joshua and Jesus
[31:45] is actually
[31:46] from the same
[31:47] Yeshua.
[31:49] Okay.
[31:49] Now,
[31:50] Jesus,
[31:52] there were a few guys
[31:53] called Jesus
[31:54] in those days.
[31:55] So,
[31:56] to distinguish
[31:57] which Jesus
[31:58] you are talking about,
[31:59] they called him
[32:00] Jesus the Nazarene.
[32:03] In most of our Bibles,
[32:05] you see Jesus
[32:05] of Nazareth.
[32:07] How God,
[32:08] Acts chapter 10,
[32:09] verse 37,
[32:10] 38,
[32:10] how God anointed
[32:12] Jesus Christ
[32:13] of Nazareth.
[32:15] Some translation
[32:15] will put Jesus
[32:16] the Nazarene.
[32:18] Silver and gold
[32:19] have I none.
[32:20] Such as I have
[32:21] chapter 3 of Acts,
[32:23] verse 6,
[32:23] give I the,
[32:24] in the name
[32:25] of Jesus Christ
[32:27] the Nazarene.
[32:29] Jesus Christ
[32:30] of Nazareth.
[32:31] Okay.
[32:31] So,
[32:32] if they are saying
[32:32] that it's a Nazarene
[32:33] sect,
[32:34] you can tell
[32:34] that it's actually
[32:35] from some bad guys,
[32:36] the bad guys
[32:37] from the ghettos.
[32:38] All right.
[32:38] So,
[32:38] now,
[32:40] they call Jesus
[32:40] of Isaac,
[32:41] he was called
[32:42] Jesus of Nazareth
[32:43] or Jesus
[32:43] by Joseph
[32:44] to show
[32:45] either they call
[32:45] you by your
[32:46] father's name
[32:47] or by where
[32:48] you are coming
[32:48] from.
[32:48] So,
[32:49] anytime you see
[32:49] Jesus of Nazareth,
[32:50] Nazareth is not
[32:51] his name,
[32:52] but just to
[32:53] distinguish the
[32:54] Jesus we are
[32:54] talking about.
[32:55] Now,
[32:55] what has that got
[32:56] to do with
[32:56] what we are
[32:56] talking about?
[32:58] Because of that,
[32:59] the followers
[32:59] of Jesus,
[33:01] they were
[33:02] following Jesus
[33:03] of Nazareth,
[33:04] but to use
[33:05] a derogative
[33:06] term to
[33:07] despise them,
[33:08] they said,
[33:09] this is a Nazarene
[33:11] cult or a Nazarene
[33:13] sect.
[33:14] And they said,
[33:15] Paul was the
[33:15] ringleader.
[33:18] It's a sect.
[33:20] A sect,
[33:21] a cult,
[33:21] they follow
[33:22] some doctrines
[33:23] that doesn't
[33:25] give people
[33:25] liberty,
[33:27] bind people,
[33:28] control people,
[33:29] and are
[33:29] intolerant.
[33:31] So,
[33:31] a sect,
[33:33] if you are
[33:34] in,
[33:34] you can't
[33:34] even be free.
[33:35] So,
[33:36] he said,
[33:36] they are a sect
[33:37] and they are
[33:38] not allowed.
[33:39] A Nazarene sect.
[33:40] This man we are
[33:41] talking about,
[33:42] he's not just
[33:43] a mover of
[33:44] sedition.
[33:46] He's not just
[33:47] a pestilent fellow.
[33:48] He is the
[33:49] ringleader
[33:50] of the
[33:52] sect of the
[33:54] Nazarenes.
[33:56] So,
[33:57] see the accusation,
[33:58] he has to
[33:58] make it look so
[33:59] bad.
[33:59] And even to
[34:01] earth icing
[34:02] on the cake,
[34:03] he said,
[34:04] and he has,
[34:05] who also has
[34:06] gone about
[34:07] to profane
[34:08] the temple?
[34:10] Who we took
[34:10] and would have
[34:11] judged according
[34:12] to our,
[34:13] is it true?
[34:14] They are not
[34:14] going to judge
[34:14] him.
[34:15] They are going
[34:16] to kill him.
[34:17] We took and
[34:18] would have judged
[34:19] according to
[34:19] our law.
[34:20] But look at that.
[34:21] They said,
[34:21] police brutalities
[34:23] did not allow us.
[34:25] Is there?
[34:25] He said,
[34:26] the chief
[34:27] captain,
[34:27] Lysias,
[34:28] came upon
[34:29] us and
[34:30] with great.
[34:32] So,
[34:32] he even
[34:33] injured most
[34:33] of us.
[34:35] They were
[34:35] complaining about
[34:36] these guys
[34:37] were liars.
[34:38] He said,
[34:39] with great
[34:40] police brutalities,
[34:42] they came to
[34:42] seize him.
[34:43] We are just
[34:43] going to judge
[34:44] him.
[34:47] Hallelujah.
[34:48] Oh,
[34:49] liars.
[34:51] Commanding
[34:51] the accusers
[34:52] should come
[34:52] to thee by
[34:53] examining him
[34:54] yourself.
[34:55] You will have
[34:55] the knowledge
[34:56] of these things
[34:57] we accuse
[34:57] him of.
[34:58] The next
[34:58] verse says
[34:58] that,
[34:59] and the
[34:59] Jews
[35:00] assented.
[35:00] He said,
[35:01] yes,
[35:01] whatever he's
[35:01] saying is
[35:02] true.
[35:03] And then
[35:04] Paul was
[35:05] asked,
[35:05] the governor
[35:06] said,
[35:06] Paul,
[35:07] speak on.
[35:08] And then
[35:09] Paul answered,
[35:10] as much
[35:10] as I know
[35:11] that thou
[35:12] has been
[35:12] of many
[35:13] years a
[35:14] judge
[35:14] unto this
[35:15] nation,
[35:16] he's been
[35:16] there for,
[35:17] he was in
[35:18] Samaria for
[35:18] two years
[35:19] and Judea
[35:20] for five
[35:21] years.
[35:21] So,
[35:21] he's been
[35:22] there for
[35:22] seven years.
[35:23] But that's
[35:23] significant.
[35:24] And he
[35:24] was familiar
[35:24] about all
[35:25] the Jewish
[35:26] situation that
[35:27] is going
[35:27] on.
[35:27] So,
[35:28] Paul said,
[35:28] as much
[35:28] as I
[35:29] know you
[35:29] have been
[35:29] judge of
[35:30] this nation
[35:31] for many
[35:31] years,
[35:32] I do
[35:33] more cheerfully
[35:34] answer for
[35:34] myself.
[35:35] The next
[35:35] verse says
[35:35] that,
[35:36] because thou
[35:37] may
[35:37] understand
[35:38] that there
[35:39] are yet
[35:40] but twelve
[35:41] days since
[35:42] I,
[35:43] this is the
[35:44] twelfth
[35:44] day.
[35:45] So,
[35:45] he said he
[35:45] got to
[35:46] Jerusalem,
[35:46] less than
[35:47] two weeks,
[35:47] he was already
[35:47] in Caesarea.
[35:50] He said
[35:50] twelve days.
[35:52] So,
[35:52] verse one
[35:53] of chapter
[35:54] twenty-four,
[35:55] it says
[35:55] that after
[35:56] five days.
[35:57] So,
[35:57] that means
[35:58] seven days
[35:59] before.
[36:00] You understand
[36:01] that?
[36:01] Seven days.
[36:02] That's the
[36:02] time he was
[36:02] spending the
[36:03] time in the
[36:03] temple doing
[36:04] the rituals.
[36:05] However,
[36:06] after that
[36:07] day,
[36:07] I think there
[36:07] was another
[36:08] day.
[36:08] So,
[36:08] I think he
[36:08] spent about
[36:09] six days
[36:09] there about.
[36:10] So,
[36:10] he said
[36:10] twelve days
[36:11] ago,
[36:12] I've not
[36:12] been here
[36:12] for long.
[36:14] I don't
[36:14] stay,
[36:14] I don't
[36:15] live here.
[36:15] I've been
[36:16] away.
[36:17] Twelve days
[36:17] ago,
[36:18] I went up
[36:19] to Jerusalem
[36:20] to worship.
[36:21] Next verse.
[36:22] And they
[36:24] neither found
[36:25] me in the
[36:25] temple,
[36:26] disputing with
[36:27] any man,
[36:28] neither raising
[36:29] up the
[36:29] people,
[36:30] neither in
[36:31] the synagogue,
[36:32] nor in
[36:32] the city.
[36:34] Neither can
[36:35] they prove
[36:36] the things
[36:36] where they
[36:37] are accusing
[36:37] me.
[36:37] They can't
[36:37] prove.
[36:38] Well,
[36:38] it's all
[36:39] false,
[36:40] sir.
[36:40] It's all
[36:41] false.
[36:41] But I
[36:42] confess
[36:42] unto thee
[36:43] that after
[36:44] the way,
[36:45] say the
[36:46] way,
[36:47] which they
[36:47] call,
[36:48] see the
[36:48] way,
[36:49] some
[36:49] translation
[36:49] if you
[36:50] use capital
[36:50] W for
[36:51] the way,
[36:52] because that
[36:53] is talking
[36:53] about
[36:54] Christianity.
[36:55] Christians
[36:55] were not
[36:55] called
[36:55] Christians.
[36:57] Those days
[36:57] they were
[36:57] called the
[36:58] people of
[36:59] the way,
[36:59] people of
[37:00] the way.
[37:00] They were
[37:01] first called
[37:01] Christians in
[37:02] Antioch,
[37:03] and that was
[37:04] even a
[37:04] derogative
[37:05] term,
[37:05] I've explained
[37:06] that already.
[37:07] So,
[37:07] Bible says
[37:08] in Acts
[37:08] chapter 9,
[37:09] Paul was
[37:09] persecuting
[37:10] the way.
[37:11] Paul himself
[37:11] used to
[37:12] call it
[37:12] the way.
[37:13] And Ananias
[37:13] said he has
[37:13] come to
[37:14] persecute
[37:14] the way.
[37:15] Christianity
[37:16] was known
[37:16] as the
[37:17] way.
[37:17] What's the
[37:18] meaning of
[37:18] that?
[37:18] It's not
[37:19] just the
[37:19] way of
[37:20] life.
[37:20] Jesus
[37:20] said I
[37:20] am the
[37:22] way.
[37:23] Now,
[37:24] in what
[37:24] way is
[37:25] Christianity
[37:25] the way?
[37:26] It's the
[37:26] truths about
[37:27] God,
[37:28] the revelations
[37:29] of God,
[37:30] the visions
[37:31] about God.
[37:32] We have
[37:33] embraced the
[37:33] truth,
[37:34] the visions,
[37:35] the revelations,
[37:36] and not just
[37:36] the visions,
[37:37] the revelation,
[37:38] the truth.
[37:38] We have
[37:38] experienced
[37:39] and enjoyed
[37:40] Jesus.
[37:41] That's how
[37:41] to be in
[37:42] the way.
[37:42] Experienced
[37:43] and enjoyed
[37:44] Jesus,
[37:44] living the
[37:45] church life
[37:46] and preaching
[37:48] the gospel.
[37:49] That is the
[37:50] full spectrum
[37:51] of being
[37:52] in the
[37:52] way.
[37:53] So,
[37:53] Bible says
[37:54] that I
[37:55] worship God
[37:55] of our
[37:56] fathers,
[37:57] believing all
[37:57] things that
[37:58] are written
[37:59] in the law
[38:00] and in the
[38:01] prophets.
[38:01] Now,
[38:01] this is very
[38:02] important because
[38:02] the Jews were
[38:03] accusing him
[38:03] that he was
[38:04] a ringleader.
[38:05] Yeah,
[38:06] I'm a Jew.
[38:07] I'm not an
[38:08] Eastern.
[38:08] And he's not
[38:09] a different God.
[38:10] He's the same
[38:10] God of our
[38:11] fathers.
[38:11] And I actually
[38:12] believe not only
[38:13] in some.
[38:15] He said,
[38:15] believing all
[38:16] things which
[38:17] are written
[38:18] in the
[38:19] law and
[38:20] the prophet.
[38:20] That is the
[38:21] basis of
[38:22] Judaism.
[38:23] I'm not
[38:23] against the
[38:24] people.
[38:24] I've not
[38:25] done anything
[38:25] wrong.
[38:26] And then he
[38:26] said,
[38:27] for the hope,
[38:27] the next
[38:27] verse says
[38:28] that,
[38:28] and I
[38:29] hope in
[38:30] God,
[38:31] which they
[38:32] themselves also
[38:33] accept that
[38:34] there will be
[38:35] a resurrection
[38:36] of the dead.
[38:37] What's the meaning
[38:37] of that?
[38:37] That's from
[38:38] Daniel chapter
[38:38] 12.
[38:39] Whether you
[38:40] are good or
[38:41] you are bad,
[38:42] when you die,
[38:42] you resurrect.
[38:43] So,
[38:44] resurrection is
[38:45] not only for
[38:45] believers.
[38:47] But this
[38:47] resurrection,
[38:49] the resurrection
[38:49] you're talking
[38:50] about,
[38:50] some will be
[38:51] resurrection
[38:51] unto
[38:52] damnation,
[38:54] and others
[38:55] into glory.
[38:56] It says,
[38:56] I think,
[38:56] in John
[38:57] chapter 5,
[38:58] Jesus,
[38:59] from verse 26,
[39:00] 27,
[39:01] 28,
[39:02] Jesus talks
[39:02] about,
[39:03] said,
[39:03] most shall I
[39:04] say unto you,
[39:05] the hour is
[39:05] coming now,
[39:06] is when the
[39:07] dead will hear
[39:07] the voice of
[39:08] the Son of
[39:08] Man,
[39:08] and those who
[39:09] hear will
[39:10] live.
[39:10] Let's go
[39:11] to the
[39:11] verse 28.
[39:13] Verse 28,
[39:14] do you not
[39:14] marvel,
[39:15] for the hour
[39:15] is coming,
[39:16] in the which
[39:16] all who are
[39:17] in the grave
[39:18] will hear
[39:19] the voice.
[39:20] Everybody,
[39:21] all,
[39:21] everybody,
[39:22] do you know
[39:22] what?
[39:23] This is moving
[39:24] very close
[39:24] to Felix.
[39:27] Because he was
[39:28] a very bad
[39:28] guy.
[39:29] Now,
[39:29] Paul is saying
[39:30] that all
[39:30] will resurrect.
[39:32] This is the
[39:33] hope of
[39:33] Judaism,
[39:34] that both
[39:35] the righteous,
[39:36] and then what
[39:36] Jesus was
[39:37] saying,
[39:37] let's read
[39:37] verse 29,
[39:38] what Jesus
[39:38] was saying,
[39:39] that all
[39:40] will rise,
[39:40] John chapter
[39:41] 5,
[39:42] he says
[39:42] that,
[39:43] and come
[39:43] forth,
[39:44] those who
[39:44] have done
[39:45] good,
[39:45] to resurrection
[39:46] of life,
[39:47] and those
[39:47] who have
[39:48] done evil,
[39:49] to the
[39:49] resurrection
[39:49] of condemnation.
[39:50] Everybody
[39:50] rise.
[39:51] So,
[39:52] he says
[39:52] that,
[39:52] I am
[39:52] saved,
[39:53] this is hope
[39:53] that we
[39:54] all believe,
[39:55] that both
[39:55] the just
[39:55] and the just
[39:56] shall
[39:57] resurrect.
[39:57] Now,
[39:58] the next
[39:58] verse,
[39:59] verse 16
[39:59] says that,
[40:00] this being
[40:01] so,
[40:02] I myself
[40:02] always strive
[40:04] to have a
[40:05] conscience
[40:05] without
[40:06] offense
[40:06] towards God,
[40:08] and I strive
[40:09] because I know
[40:09] one day there's
[40:10] going to
[40:10] a resurrection.
[40:12] I may get
[40:12] away with it,
[40:14] people might not
[40:15] notice it,
[40:16] the Lord might
[40:16] not catch me,
[40:18] but resurrection
[40:18] is coming.
[40:19] So,
[40:20] because of that,
[40:21] I strive to
[40:22] have a
[40:22] conscience,
[40:24] a void
[40:24] without offense
[40:25] towards God
[40:26] and man.
[40:27] The next verse
[40:27] says that,
[40:28] now,
[40:29] after many years,
[40:30] I came,
[40:31] that's,
[40:31] he's been living
[40:32] his life,
[40:32] I came to
[40:33] Jerusalem to
[40:33] bring arms
[40:34] and offering
[40:35] to my nation.
[40:36] Okay,
[40:37] that's,
[40:38] it sounds
[40:38] politically good,
[40:39] so I'm bringing
[40:40] arms,
[40:41] I'm not coming
[40:41] to,
[40:41] but that was
[40:42] true anyway.
[40:43] For many years,
[40:43] I came to
[40:44] give arms
[40:44] to my nation.
[40:45] In the midst
[40:46] of which some
[40:47] Jews from Asia
[40:48] found me
[40:49] purified in
[40:50] the temple,
[40:51] neither with
[40:52] a mob,
[40:53] nor with
[40:53] a timult.
[40:54] This is very
[40:55] interesting.
[40:56] Watch this,
[40:57] watch this.
[40:58] It says that,
[40:58] they ought
[41:00] to have
[41:01] been here
[41:02] before you.
[41:03] Those who
[41:04] came to me
[41:05] in the temple
[41:07] should have
[41:08] been here.
[41:09] Their witnesses,
[41:10] that's how
[41:10] law works,
[41:12] where are the
[41:12] witnesses?
[41:14] Said they ought
[41:15] to have been here
[41:16] before you
[41:17] to object
[41:18] if they had
[41:19] anything against
[41:20] me.
[41:21] But interestingly,
[41:23] you know what
[41:23] occurred to me?
[41:25] Where was
[41:25] James?
[41:27] Where were the
[41:27] team of
[41:28] brethren?
[41:29] Who were
[41:30] there?
[41:30] You see,
[41:31] they're all
[41:31] managed to.
[41:33] They said,
[41:33] I think their
[41:35] brethren,
[41:36] including James,
[41:37] should have
[41:37] made an
[41:37] appearance and
[41:38] stood, you
[41:39] know, when
[41:39] you're going
[41:39] to court,
[41:40] they stand
[41:41] by you.
[41:43] Paul was
[41:43] left alone,
[41:44] but thank
[41:44] God,
[41:45] Jesus said,
[41:46] be of good
[41:46] courage.
[41:48] Paul was
[41:49] left alone.
[41:49] He said,
[41:50] my supporters,
[41:52] they didn't
[41:52] come, and
[41:53] my accusers
[41:54] are also not
[41:55] here.
[41:56] He said,
[41:57] where are
[41:57] they?
[41:58] Where are
[41:58] they?
[41:59] The next
[41:59] verse,
[41:59] he said,
[41:59] and even
[42:00] those who
[42:00] are accusing
[42:00] me now,
[42:01] or else,
[42:02] let those
[42:02] who are
[42:03] here themselves
[42:05] say if they
[42:06] found any
[42:06] wrongdoing in
[42:07] me whilst I
[42:08] stood before
[42:09] the council.
[42:10] Let them
[42:10] accuse me.
[42:12] Innocent.
[42:14] Unless it
[42:14] is in this
[42:16] one statement
[42:16] which I cry
[42:17] outstanding
[42:18] amongst them
[42:18] concerning the
[42:19] resurrection of
[42:20] the dead,
[42:21] I am being
[42:22] judged
[42:22] before you.
[42:25] God,
[42:26] God,
[42:26] he is telling
[42:26] the governor,
[42:27] you,
[42:29] concern
[42:29] resurrection of
[42:30] the dead,
[42:30] I am being
[42:30] judged before
[42:31] you.
[42:33] Do you
[42:34] sense the
[42:34] sarcasm there?
[42:36] The wisdom?
[42:38] He was not
[42:39] only,
[42:39] watch this,
[42:40] he was not
[42:41] only defending
[42:42] himself,
[42:42] he was
[42:42] testifying,
[42:44] and he was
[42:44] trying to reach
[42:45] out to this
[42:46] evil governor.
[42:49] I am standing
[42:50] before you about
[42:51] resurrection.
[42:51] Remember,
[42:53] everybody
[42:53] will resurrect.
[42:58] Praise the
[42:59] Lord.
[43:00] But when
[43:01] Felix had
[43:02] these things,
[43:02] having more
[43:03] accurate knowledge
[43:04] of Christianity,
[43:06] he was aware
[43:07] of them.
[43:07] He adjourned
[43:08] the proceedings
[43:09] and said,
[43:11] when Lysias,
[43:12] the commander,
[43:12] comes down,
[43:13] I will make
[43:14] a decision
[43:14] on your
[43:16] case.
[43:17] And he
[43:17] commanded that
[43:18] they shouldn't
[43:19] prevent people
[43:19] from visiting
[43:20] Paul,
[43:21] giving him
[43:21] liberty.
[43:22] So,
[43:23] it's believed
[43:23] that Paul
[43:24] was actually
[43:25] living with
[43:26] Philip,
[43:26] the evangelist,
[43:27] because he
[43:27] was at
[43:27] Caesarea.
[43:29] Philip left
[43:30] Jerusalem
[43:30] because of
[43:32] Paul's
[43:33] brutalities.
[43:34] Many years
[43:35] later,
[43:36] he was the
[43:36] one hosting
[43:37] Paul in
[43:38] Caesarea.
[43:40] God has a
[43:40] sense of
[43:41] irony,
[43:41] you know.
[43:43] He has a
[43:43] sense of
[43:43] irony.
[43:44] He went
[43:44] and was
[43:45] with Philip
[43:45] in Caesarea
[43:46] and people
[43:47] were visiting
[43:47] him.
[43:48] Someone
[43:48] learned
[43:48] something.
[43:50] Yeah.
[43:50] After
[43:51] some days,
[43:51] when Philip,
[43:52] watch this,
[43:53] when Philip
[43:53] came with
[43:54] his wife,
[43:55] you know
[43:55] this girl?
[43:58] This girl,
[43:59] Drusilla.
[44:00] When you
[44:00] are described
[44:01] as a
[44:01] Drusilla,
[44:02] he's not
[44:02] a nice
[44:02] one.
[44:04] The only
[44:04] nice thing
[44:05] about
[44:05] Drusilla is
[44:05] she was
[44:06] pretty.
[44:07] Pretty.
[44:08] He sent
[44:09] for Paul
[44:09] and heard
[44:10] him concerning
[44:11] the faith
[44:11] in Christ.
[44:12] You see
[44:12] what's
[44:12] happening?
[44:13] You see
[44:14] what's
[44:14] happening?
[44:15] The guy
[44:15] was getting
[44:16] convicted.
[44:16] God
[44:17] sent him
[44:17] there for
[44:18] a purpose.
[44:19] He was
[44:19] on his
[44:19] way to
[44:20] the top.
[44:21] So he
[44:21] has dealt
[44:21] with the
[44:22] Jews.
[44:22] He has
[44:23] dealt
[44:23] with the
[44:23] Sahindrin,
[44:24] the authorities.
[44:25] Now he's
[44:26] gone to the
[44:27] Roman commander.
[44:28] They've seen
[44:28] what was
[44:29] happening.
[44:29] Now he's
[44:29] at the
[44:30] governor
[44:30] level.
[44:32] Testify
[44:32] before the
[44:33] governor.
[44:33] So after
[44:34] some days,
[44:35] when Philip
[44:35] came with
[44:36] his wife
[44:37] Drusilla,
[44:37] who was
[44:38] Jewish,
[44:39] he sent
[44:40] for Paul
[44:40] and heard
[44:41] him concerning
[44:42] the faith
[44:43] in Jesus.
[44:44] Paul
[44:46] going to
[44:51] Jerusalem.
[44:53] For this
[44:53] most cruel
[44:54] governor in
[44:55] the Roman
[44:56] authorities,
[44:58] to be given
[44:59] the privilege
[45:00] to hear about
[45:00] the faith
[45:01] concerning
[45:01] Jesus,
[45:02] it must
[45:03] take a
[45:03] Paul.
[45:05] James
[45:05] won't do
[45:06] it.
[45:07] Peter
[45:07] won't do
[45:08] it.
[45:09] It must
[45:09] take a
[45:09] Paul.
[45:10] And
[45:10] Bible
[45:11] says,
[45:11] let's
[45:11] go to
[45:11] the next
[45:12] verse 25
[45:12] says that,
[45:13] he wasn't
[45:17] shouting.
[45:18] He wasn't
[45:18] doing.
[45:20] Because when
[45:21] you get to
[45:21] some places,
[45:22] they are not
[45:23] interested in
[45:23] that.
[45:24] They are not
[45:24] interested in
[45:25] that.
[45:26] As he
[45:27] reasoned,
[45:28] let's all
[45:28] say reason.
[45:30] Let's say
[45:30] reasoned.
[45:32] That means
[45:32] you must have
[45:33] some intellectual
[45:34] prowess.
[45:36] What you are
[45:36] talking about,
[45:37] you must know
[45:37] it.
[45:38] It's not
[45:38] every Sunday
[45:39] people go,
[45:39] that's why
[45:40] thank God for
[45:41] the day of
[45:41] Pentacles.
[45:42] We have
[45:42] prayed for
[45:43] the sake
[45:43] of
[45:43] everything.
[45:45] Even if
[45:46] you are
[45:46] not
[45:46] interested,
[45:46] I will
[45:47] preach the
[45:48] word.
[45:49] Do you
[45:50] understand that?
[45:51] Sometimes
[45:51] people must
[45:52] be,
[45:52] Christians must
[45:53] know what
[45:54] the text
[45:55] says.
[45:57] I feel
[45:57] like
[45:58] preaching.
[46:00] I said
[46:00] I feel
[46:01] like
[46:01] preaching.
[46:03] So,
[46:05] verse 25
[46:05] says that,
[46:07] as he
[46:07] reasoned
[46:08] about
[46:09] righteousness,
[46:09] righteousness,
[46:11] what?
[46:12] Righteousness,
[46:13] this guy was
[46:13] too brutal.
[46:15] Someone must
[46:16] talk to me
[46:16] about righteousness,
[46:17] doing what
[46:18] is right before
[46:18] God.
[46:19] Self-control is
[46:20] too lustful.
[46:22] Somebody's wife,
[46:22] you've gone to
[46:23] marry her and
[46:25] use a magician
[46:26] to deceive the
[46:27] girl to marry her.
[46:30] Sir, you need
[46:31] self-control.
[46:34] So, do you
[46:35] get what Paul
[46:35] was saying?
[46:35] Look at
[46:38] somebody,
[46:39] say self-control,
[46:40] control.
[46:42] He didn't
[46:42] preach
[46:43] righteousness,
[46:44] he reasoned.
[46:47] He didn't
[46:48] preach self-control,
[46:49] he reasoned.
[46:52] And guess
[46:52] what?
[46:53] The judgment
[46:54] took us.
[46:56] Can you
[46:57] imagine what
[46:58] Paul was doing
[46:59] to this man?
[47:00] He called
[47:01] Paul.
[47:01] And Paul
[47:03] went with
[47:04] precision,
[47:06] targeted
[47:07] message,
[47:09] reasoned
[47:10] of
[47:10] righteousness,
[47:12] self-control,
[47:13] and
[47:15] just in case
[47:16] you don't
[47:16] do that,
[47:17] the judgment
[47:18] coming.
[47:20] What
[47:21] happened to
[47:21] Felix?
[47:25] Now you
[47:26] understand why
[47:26] I have to
[47:27] tell you who
[47:27] Felix was.
[47:28] He was
[47:30] afraid.
[47:30] and answered,
[47:32] go away
[47:33] for now,
[47:34] for now,
[47:34] it's okay.
[47:35] Pastor,
[47:36] stop preaching
[47:36] for now,
[47:37] it's okay,
[47:38] please,
[47:39] it's too much,
[47:39] it's too much
[47:40] for me.
[47:40] Go away
[47:41] for now,
[47:42] I don't
[47:42] want to
[47:42] have high
[47:42] blood
[47:43] pressure,
[47:44] just go
[47:44] away for
[47:44] now.
[47:45] He asked
[47:46] the preacher,
[47:46] stop preaching,
[47:47] go away
[47:48] for now,
[47:48] when I have
[47:49] a convenient
[47:50] time,
[47:51] I'll call
[47:51] you back.
[47:54] You see,
[47:54] having understood
[47:55] who Felix
[47:55] was,
[47:56] all this
[47:57] can now
[47:57] make sense.
[47:59] And you
[47:59] can understand
[47:59] why Paul
[48:00] had to
[48:01] reason
[48:01] concerning
[48:02] righteousness,
[48:03] reason
[48:03] concerning
[48:04] self-control,
[48:05] reason
[48:06] concerning
[48:06] the judgment
[48:07] to come.
[48:09] If you
[48:10] don't
[48:11] give regard
[48:11] to righteousness
[48:12] and you
[48:13] also disregard
[48:14] self-control,
[48:17] girl,
[48:18] I know your
[48:18] emotions are
[48:19] always getting
[48:20] in the way,
[48:20] but self-control
[48:21] is necessary.
[48:23] Self-control,
[48:24] don't do that,
[48:26] don't do that,
[48:27] don't do that.
[48:27] righteousness
[48:29] fails,
[48:30] self-control
[48:31] fails,
[48:32] you will
[48:32] meet the
[48:32] judgments.
[48:34] That's why
[48:34] everybody is
[48:35] going to
[48:35] appear before
[48:36] the judgment
[48:37] seat of
[48:37] God,
[48:38] everybody.
[48:40] So he
[48:40] said,
[48:41] believers
[48:41] will appear
[48:42] before the
[48:42] judgment
[48:42] seat of
[48:43] Christ
[48:43] to receive
[48:44] our crowns
[48:45] and our
[48:45] award.
[48:46] So he's
[48:46] raising with
[48:47] him,
[48:47] the guy
[48:48] shook.
[48:50] This
[48:51] Felix guy,
[48:52] a slave
[48:52] who has
[48:52] become a
[48:53] governor.
[48:55] He was
[48:55] born slave,
[48:56] slave.
[48:56] It wasn't
[48:56] like he
[48:56] was sold.
[48:57] He was
[48:58] born a
[48:58] slave.
[49:00] And so
[49:00] he grew
[49:00] up in
[49:01] that kind
[49:01] of mediocre
[49:02] environment,
[49:03] unfortunate,
[49:05] with vendetta
[49:06] in his
[49:06] heart,
[49:07] and now
[49:08] he becomes
[49:08] a governor.
[49:09] Became so
[49:10] brutal,
[49:11] Paul said,
[49:11] listen,
[49:12] righteousness
[49:12] matters.
[49:14] Listen,
[49:14] sir,
[49:14] with all
[49:15] humility.
[49:16] Paul would
[49:16] not withhold
[49:17] back.
[49:18] He spoke
[49:19] the truth
[49:19] as he
[49:20] was.
[49:20] He said,
[49:21] self-control
[49:21] matters.
[49:24] Self-control.
[49:25] Watch this.
[49:26] discipline is
[49:28] never localized.
[49:31] Lack of
[49:32] discipline is
[49:33] also not
[49:33] localized.
[49:35] If you
[49:36] lack
[49:37] discipline
[49:37] here,
[49:38] it's an
[49:39] indication that
[49:40] all the
[49:41] other places
[49:42] are also.
[49:43] So,
[49:44] if you
[49:45] are
[49:45] overgrowing,
[49:48] first of
[49:49] all,
[49:49] it's likely
[49:50] your prayer
[49:50] life has
[49:51] taken a
[49:51] hit.
[49:52] Not because
[49:53] you
[49:54] are
[49:54] disciplined.
[49:56] !
[49:56] because
[49:57] once you
[49:57] are disciplined
[49:58] in one
[49:59] area,
[49:59] it begins
[50:00] to affect
[50:00] all the
[50:01] other.
[50:01] So,
[50:02] those of
[50:02] us who
[50:03] keep saying,
[50:03] I want to
[50:04] go to
[50:04] gym,
[50:05] I'm not
[50:05] going to
[50:05] gym,
[50:06] it's a
[50:06] sign that
[50:07] other areas
[50:08] in your
[50:08] life are
[50:08] also still
[50:09] suffering.
[50:09] it's
[50:12] cascades,
[50:13] it affects
[50:14] your even
[50:14] level of
[50:15] purity,
[50:15] it affects
[50:16] your prayer
[50:16] life,
[50:17] your distance
[50:17] in reading
[50:18] the Bible,
[50:18] the way
[50:18] you treat
[50:19] your wife,
[50:19] the way
[50:20] you treat
[50:20] your husband,
[50:21] the way
[50:21] you treat
[50:21] when you're
[50:22] angry.
[50:22] A lot
[50:23] of things
[50:23] begin to
[50:24] also,
[50:24] because
[50:25] lack of
[50:26] self-control
[50:26] in one
[50:27] area affects
[50:28] a lot of
[50:29] other areas.
[50:30] If you
[50:31] are a
[50:31] student and
[50:33] you keep
[50:33] failing your
[50:34] exam,
[50:35] it means
[50:35] that certain
[50:36] aspects of
[50:37] your Christian
[50:37] life are
[50:38] likely to
[50:39] also be
[50:39] wanted.
[50:40] What I'm
[50:41] trying to
[50:41] say,
[50:41] I'm
[50:42] finding out
[50:43] that once
[50:43] you are
[50:44] beginning to
[50:44] lose the
[50:45] battle in
[50:45] one area
[50:46] of self-control,
[50:47] one area
[50:48] of chocolate,
[50:52] it begins
[50:52] to affect
[50:53] other areas
[50:54] of even
[50:55] the way
[50:55] you show
[50:56] honor,
[50:57] because honor
[50:58] requires
[50:58] discipline,
[50:59] forgiveness
[50:59] requires
[51:00] discipline.
[51:01] I'm telling
[51:02] you.
[51:03] So one
[51:04] area of
[51:05] lack of
[51:05] self-control
[51:06] is the
[51:06] reflection
[51:07] that the
[51:08] other areas
[51:08] are also
[51:09] following
[51:09] suits.
[51:11] Not every
[51:11] area,
[51:12] but many
[51:12] of the
[51:12] areas.
[51:14] So when
[51:14] he raises
[51:15] this area,
[51:15] the man
[51:16] was,
[51:16] let's finish
[51:16] the text,
[51:17] let's finish
[51:17] the text,
[51:18] quickly.
[51:18] Verse 26,
[51:19] please.
[51:19] Meanwhile,
[51:20] Felix,
[51:20] he hoped
[51:21] that money
[51:22] would be
[51:22] given to
[51:22] him by
[51:23] Paul.
[51:24] This guy
[51:25] doesn't
[51:25] have shame.
[51:26] He was
[51:27] hoping that
[51:27] money would
[51:27] be given
[51:28] to him
[51:28] by Paul,
[51:29] that he
[51:29] might
[51:29] release
[51:29] him.
[51:30] Therefore,
[51:30] he sent
[51:31] for him
[51:31] orphaned to
[51:32] converse
[51:33] with him.
[51:33] Why?
[51:34] Not because
[51:34] of the
[51:34] gospel,
[51:35] money.
[51:36] That's how
[51:36] bad that
[51:37] guy was.
[51:38] And the
[51:39] next verse,
[51:40] the next
[51:40] verse,
[51:40] but after
[51:41] two years,
[51:44] he kept
[51:44] him,
[51:45] if Paul had
[51:45] given him
[51:46] money,
[51:46] he would
[51:46] have
[51:46] released
[51:47] him.
[51:48] After
[51:48] two years,
[51:50] Paul's
[51:50] first
[51:51] succeeded
[51:52] Felix,
[51:53] and Felix,
[51:54] wanting favor
[51:54] from the
[51:55] Jews of
[51:55] Deuteronvita,
[51:56] left Paul
[51:57] bound,
[51:57] even though
[51:58] he knew
[51:58] Paul was
[51:59] innocent.
[52:00] For two
[52:01] years,
[52:01] he kept
[52:02] him,
[52:02] but the
[52:03] secret is
[52:03] that keeping
[52:04] him for
[52:04] two years
[52:05] was not
[52:05] working
[52:05] against
[52:06] Paul.
[52:06] It was
[52:07] working
[52:07] the
[52:07] purpose
[52:08] of
[52:08] God.
[52:08] Paul
[52:08] was
[52:09] busy
[52:09] writing.
[52:12] Busy
[52:12] writing.
[52:14] Busy
[52:14] writing.
[52:15] Look at
[52:15] how much
[52:16] the body
[52:16] of Christ
[52:16] has
[52:16] benefited
[52:17] by the
[52:18] letters
[52:18] God
[52:19] poured
[52:20] through.
[52:21] It was
[52:21] scripture
[52:21] God used
[52:23] through
[52:23] Paul,
[52:23] but he
[52:24] couldn't
[52:24] be
[52:24] roaming
[52:25] around.
[52:26] He
[52:26] had to
[52:26] sit
[52:26] down,
[52:27] and
[52:27] God
[52:27] used
[52:28] him
[52:28] to
[52:28] pen
[52:29] out
[52:29] scripture.
[52:30] Did
[52:30] you
[52:30] receive
[52:30] something?
[52:32] Let's
[52:32] give
[52:32] Jesus
[52:33] praise.
[52:33] Hallelujah!
