This week, James, Jerah, and Jon are joined by filmmaker, model, and (relevant for this week’s film) twin Jaylin Hodge (@jaylindhodge) to cover Is God Is, written and directed by Aleasha Harris, starring Kara Young, Mallori Johnson, Janelle Monáe, Erika Alexander, Mykelti Williamson, Josiah Cross, Vivica A. Fox, and Sterling K. Brown. Together, they discuss whether or not Bray forgot what the show is, the film’s disappointingly so-so financial performance, how grounded the film’s vision of twins felt, what might've changed between the stage play and the film adaptation, James' need for everyone to pick up his upcoming Aladdin comics, and much, much more! [0:07] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I saw a reading of this play at Rousseau's, the Rousseau Brothers company.
[0:15] \[SPEAKER_02\]: What?
[0:16] \[SPEAKER_02\]: How this happened was really great story.
[0:19] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But it's like, when this play came out, I guess like two, oh my, maybe like two, three years ago.
[0:24] \[SPEAKER_02\]: At first, I was asked to read in it, but then they cast someone else for the older brother.
[0:31] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And it was like, well, you two, oh, to play this person's younger brother.
[0:34] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And then what am I, good friends was cast to do that part.
[0:38] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And so I went to go see it.
[0:39] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It was really cool.
[0:40] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It had to actress who played.
[0:43] \[SPEAKER_02\]: She's in Batman.
[0:44] \[SPEAKER_02\]: She was in centers.
[0:45] \[SPEAKER_02\]: She was the woman that Sammy was dating.
[0:50] \[SPEAKER_02\]: She played the quiet sister and then the actress who plays Ironheart was like the reckless one.
[0:59] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And I always know him from
[1:08] \[SPEAKER_02\]: He played like the dad and it was a really cool.
[1:12] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It was really cool screen it.
[1:13] \[SPEAKER_02\]: There was no black people in the audience wait What do you mean screening?
[1:17] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Sorry, sorry in the reading.
[1:18] \[SPEAKER_02\]: He means reading.
[1:18] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Sorry.
[1:19] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah There was no black people in the audience and they had to have to party and all the black people were working So they were all like either in the cast or they were like working catering and All the other caterers had all black on but some reason I have a lot of white on
[1:35] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I'm hanging with the cast because again, we're the only black people there.
[1:39] \[SPEAKER_02\]: The director who's a white woman walks up is like talking everybody.
[1:43] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Mind you, I'm in the seat.
[1:45] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I'm in the circle.
[1:45] \[SPEAKER_02\]: We're all talking.
[1:46] \[SPEAKER_02\]: She joins the circle.
[1:47] \[SPEAKER_02\]: She has a drink and she just hands me her empty drink.
[1:50] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I'm wearing the white.
[1:51] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Mind you, everyone's talking and then I see, I look at it and then the cast looks at it.
[1:58] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And then she just like says hello and then walks away.
[2:01] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And then people are like, she just give you
[2:04] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Like, maybe she didn't know.
[2:05] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Like, whatever, maybe she didn't know.
[2:06] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Well, clearly she didn't know.
[2:08] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So, but this is against crazy.
[2:09] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah.
[2:10] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Our business, the reason of our short from Andrew was there, and he was like trying to introduce her to everybody.
[2:16] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And so she comes back again, and he introduces me as like a director.
[2:20] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And I see the shop on her face, because all the black people still realize what happened.
[2:24] \[SPEAKER_02\]: This white lady does not acknowledge what she did.
[2:28] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And almost pretend it like shit, never.
[2:30] \[SPEAKER_02\]: met me if for some reason the anchor in my soul was like this is a black plate is white lady did it she get mine do now here's what i'm here's what i'm here's what i'm here's what i'm here because i know the white woman that directed the plane she was the director of the reading for the reading sorry i know the woman that the white woman that directed played in 2018 and so now i'm just wondering is this
[2:52] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I mean, I mean, she, what do I want?
[2:54] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Is she older, I want it?
[2:55] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I mean, no, no, not older, no, no, no, she's like a way to like around our narrative of a description.
[3:01] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I mean, I don't remember her name.
[3:02] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I don't remember her name.
[3:03] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And I'm like, all right, I mean, this is like a, you know, it's a new play.
[3:07] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You don't know if they could have the same people at all.
[3:09] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But yeah, after you said older, I think she had to be an out of some she was like 50s, I think.
[3:15] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Oh, okay, no, not the same.
[3:17] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And then I remember our producer defended her like she didn't know I was like yeah, but then you apologize like that's crazy Like it's a black one you went.
[3:24] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Oh, let's let's let's figure out what you was wearing where you were Like oh
[3:34] \[SPEAKER_02\]: That people like the black people was like where you go and it's like all white it was it was a thing It was so much white.
[3:40] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It was a joke amongst them and every other black person had on all black people You're looking like freaking Morgan Freeman and Bruce Almighty Yeah, I mean humbled humbled is what that play is that it would have been better She came up to you and was like is God is
[4:00] \[SPEAKER_04\]: No, because you look like Morgan Freeman and Bruce Almighty and he was God.
[4:05] \[SPEAKER_04\]: So, you know, no, I don't understand.
[4:07] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And then like, but she was stuttering because she wasn't confident about it.
[4:11] \[SPEAKER_04\]: So she's like, what God?
[4:13] \[SPEAKER_03\]: She's got is and you said that is was definitively the end of the sentence.
[4:18] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Like, is end of the question.
[4:19] \[SPEAKER_04\]: She then she realized what I'm saying is ridiculous, so she stopped herself.
[4:23] \[SPEAKER_04\]: You know, so it was like, is God?
[4:26] \[SPEAKER_01\]: That's just that, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, mm,
[5:16] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Welcome to Blackman can't jump in Hollywood, Hollywood's today!
[5:20] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Torx aggressively on a roadside, that's my quote, she's gonna read, she's gonna read.
[5:28] \[SPEAKER_02\]: That was my transition, I think.
[5:38] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yep, I don't see anything so, we've given up, that's what this is.
[5:42] \[SPEAKER_02\]: We've all given up.
[5:43] \[SPEAKER_03\]: No, because I can I say, can I say, what I wanted to do was like, there was so many like fun things spoken in silence.
[5:52] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And I was like, well, I can't, I don't know how to do that.
[5:54] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And then I was like, and then I was like, well, I could describe that.
[5:57] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And then I thought, well, what's a more fun thing to describe, for working aggressively on the side of it?
[6:03] \[SPEAKER_03\]: So we're going to aggressively.
[6:04] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Thank you for picking the twerking.
[6:05] \[SPEAKER_01\]: OK.
[6:07] \[SPEAKER_01\]: It was a fun part.
[6:08] \[SPEAKER_01\]: It was a fun part in front of all the state science.
[6:10] \[SPEAKER_01\]: It was a good part.
[6:11] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yes, thank you.
[6:15] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Good God.
[6:16] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Well, for those of you who are listening for the first time, welcome.
[6:18] \[SPEAKER_04\]: This is a film review podcast.
[6:21] \[SPEAKER_04\]: We review the films that are being black actors in the.
[6:24] \[SPEAKER_04\]: That's right, context of diversity.
[6:29] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And what else?
[6:30] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Something else?
[6:31] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Great.
[6:32] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Great.
[6:32] \[SPEAKER_04\]: What's going on?
[6:34] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Race and diversity.
[6:35] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It's Hollywood, but I don't know if this is a bit, or if you really usually get really powerful.
[6:40] \[SPEAKER_03\]: She's great.
[6:40] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I'm not a function race and diversity to Hollywood.
[6:43] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I was like, I see this all the time, and then I started to forget.
[6:46] \[SPEAKER_04\]: We, uh, uh, he's broke.
[6:50] \[SPEAKER_04\]: He's broke.
[6:51] \[SPEAKER_04\]: He's broke it.
[6:51] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Listen, scallor, he's broke it.
[6:53] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Scallor, just remember.
[6:54] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Remember how Bray started this episode?
[6:57] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I actually thought it was pretty good.
[6:59] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I thought it was a pretty good transition.
[7:00] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I need a more.
[7:02] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Uh, listen, three of us host this podcast.
[7:04] \[SPEAKER_04\]: The person right now can't remember what we're doing.
[7:08] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It's Jonathan Braylock.
[7:12] \[SPEAKER_02\]: This is Dr. Milligan and this is James the third and we have a special guest today Yeah, right here's what you don't know again.
[7:19] \[SPEAKER_04\]: No, no, you hold on because the special guest is gonna get a real treat Instead of some broke ass drums.
[7:26] \[SPEAKER_04\]: They're gonna get some great
[7:29] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Great sound effect build up and you don't do this.
[7:33] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Okay, okay fine.
[7:34] \[SPEAKER_02\]: All right.
[7:35] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Okay, let me know what you're ready.
[7:36] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Are you ready?
[7:36] \[SPEAKER_02\]: See I'm gonna tell you I'm asking you if you ready.
[7:39] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Okay, you give it up for actress Hello, I am Jalen Podge and I'm pouring facts for today.
[7:54] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I'm also a twin
[7:56] \[SPEAKER_02\]: She is a twin part, she is a twin part.
[7:58] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Eight.
[7:59] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I want to dress up for that first.
[8:01] \[SPEAKER_02\]: A break.
[8:01] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah.
[8:02] \[SPEAKER_03\]: How did you like those drums, Jalen?
[8:03] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I don't like it.
[8:04] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I don't like it.
[8:05] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I love it.
[8:06] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Don't look you.
[8:07] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah.
[8:07] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Those are great drums.
[8:08] \[SPEAKER_03\]: They were great drums.
[8:09] \[SPEAKER_03\]: But hey, those are great.
[8:12] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah.
[8:12] \[SPEAKER_03\]: She's on.
[8:13] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You just take my baby down.
[8:14] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You just, we just don't know.
[8:15] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I just, I just wait and miss.
[8:17] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Just when people, there are certain people who got on the show, we want, we want to elevate, you know, the production value.
[8:24] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Wow, wow, because sometimes we, we forget that and it be embarrassed, you know, I thought that's what I'm just driving and keeping that going for years, but the way it's going to be keeping the lights on, okay, I like your drum, I like, I like the other
[8:50] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Oh, I'm amazing.
[8:51] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Oh, she was going to be happy.
[8:53] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I'll be happy, Bray.
[8:54] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Of course, today we are reviewing the film.
[8:57] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Is God is a written, produced and directed by Alicia Harris in her directorial debut.
[9:07] \[SPEAKER_04\]: She also wrote the play in 2018.
[9:13] \[SPEAKER_04\]: This film came out May 15th.
[9:15] \[SPEAKER_04\]: We didn't get a chance to review it at those five.
[9:19] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I know.
[9:19] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I mean, here's the thing.
[9:21] \[SPEAKER_04\]: May 15th.
[9:23] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It's not.
[9:24] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It's just like several weeks ago.
[9:28] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And yet in the world of movies today, because movies leave the theaters within two to three weeks, unless they're doing really well.
[9:37] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It's just crazy because like,
[9:39] \[SPEAKER_04\]: They're used to be a world where, yeah, if we did a movie a month late, people could still go see it in theaters.
[9:45] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And now you have to rent it on streaming.
[9:48] \[SPEAKER_04\]: So it is worth rent.
[9:50] \[SPEAKER_04\]: That's a lot to it.
[9:50] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I agree.
[9:52] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, I didn't realize it was rentable yet.
[9:53] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But I guess that makes sense today.
[9:54] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Just like a bracelet.
[9:55] \[SPEAKER_02\]: They just go so fast.
[9:57] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Yeah, it's been over a month, so it's on some crazy.
[10:00] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, that's so crazy.
[10:02] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It stars Kara Young and Mallory Johnson, as well as the K.A.
[10:08] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Fox and Sterley King Brown and Genelmone.
[10:11] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Genelmone.
[10:13] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Unfortunately, it's box office run wasn't great.
[10:17] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It wasn't.
[10:19] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Um, I read it backwards.
[10:21] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I read it back.
[10:21] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah.
[10:22] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It was a five million.
[10:23] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Two years.
[10:24] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah.
[10:26] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, it was a million.
[10:27] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It's kind of 14.8 million a little higher than you would think.
[10:34] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, okay, yeah, I mean, it's not that hot.
[10:37] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It's really not good.
[10:38] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Hi, though.
[10:39] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It's not.
[10:40] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It's not.
[10:41] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But I was like, that's a lot of money because it's not like big effects or anything.
[10:45] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So I was like, no, again, I don't know.
[10:47] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I'm not trying to shame to move anything.
[10:48] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I'm just like, that's just felt like a high number or something.
[10:52] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I just wasn't expecting when you said it.
[10:53] \[SPEAKER_02\]: That's all.
[10:56] \[SPEAKER_04\]: So it grossed approximately 5 million on a 14.8 million dollar budget, but the reviews are incredible.
[11:04] \[SPEAKER_04\]: 97% on rotten tomatoes, 89% popcorn meter, and yeah, I think pretty well received for those who did get a chance to see it.
[11:19] \[SPEAKER_04\]: That is the round-up show we just get into initial thoughts.
[11:23] \[SPEAKER_04\]: There's so much kind of to discuss.
[11:25] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Oh, I guess I'll say the log line is two, two twin sisters embark on an epic request for revenge, confronting a charged family history that will push them to extraordinary length.
[11:44] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, I mean, you know, I was basically a jail and we always like to ask like, you know, your first thoughts on the film, it says you are, I guess, would you like to go perverse, that's what I'm sure all good first, my initial thoughts is first of all, I always love a revenge tale, you know, like, let me go, you know,
[12:05] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I thought that like the dynamic with the sisters was both like incredibly touching, it was kind of like a fun portrayal of sisterhood as well as like with some dark twists, and also a little tragic, you know, and I thought that acting, I really enjoyed the acting.
[12:22] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Yeah.
[12:22] \[SPEAKER_01\]: The acting is what did it for me.
[12:24] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Like it's a very, I don't know, there to the storytelling, this fun, but the acting, I enjoyed the most.
[12:31] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I think that, I think that.
[12:32] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Yeah.
[12:34] \[SPEAKER_01\]: The $14 million is really interesting.
[12:36] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, a lot of money, but a lot of money.
[12:39] \[SPEAKER_02\]: What do I know?
[12:40] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah, I can go.
[12:42] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I agree.
[12:43] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I was mostly very moved by the acting above all.
[12:49] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I really thought that everybody did a fantastic job, the kind of revolving, like we're a lot of these Indies and a lot of new plays do revolving door
[13:01] \[SPEAKER_03\]: elder statesman actors was nice to like see them in their in their in their scenes and and all of that.
[13:09] \[SPEAKER_03\]: There was a point like maybe I didn't know about this the history of this.
[13:13] \[SPEAKER_03\]: So, you know, it starts to feel like a movie based on a play by like once like once a Vificate Fox showed up and it was like she was monologue and I was like, oh, this is a play, you know, and I started looking at it up
[13:29] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And there's there's like a point where I started going like oh I think I would like really like this play and then as it went on I was like oh I don't know I actually don't know how I would feel about it that's it's like it's a it's got wrenching you know on purpose yeah and and there's a and it gives you it gives you stuff to chew on it gives you stuff to think about but I'm like wondering like.
[13:53] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Like, in what way would it have hooked me as an actor, like, you know, like, oh, do I want to play?
[14:00] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Do I want to play these parts?
[14:01] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Am I interested in specifically like the depth that we're going to with this, you know?
[14:06] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And so I left, I left it, not sure.
[14:09] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You know, I left it not sure what my answer to that question is, but I totally get what makes this a successful play and there's so much,
[14:20] \[SPEAKER_03\]: there's so many fun things about it, you know, there's so much like there's so many cool dynamics and so many, you know, like I'm I'm I'm picturing like what the how the guy without the tongue talks and the play and and and if the twin talking element, you know, is that subtitles on the side and stuff like that and like and all that feels like
[14:49] \[SPEAKER_03\]: To let you know the telepathy of that was like really you know, it was really cool, but you know, but I, but I was by the end I was sort of like I'm not 100% sure how I how I feel which to me is part of why I don't follow American theater as closely as I used to because I was sort of leaving a lot of these plays feeling the way I just described so so for that.
[15:11] \[SPEAKER_02\]: majorly successful in that regard as well as you're not a big fan of modern um modern theater.
[15:19] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I have found myself turned off by some of the recurring themes that pop up in these things.
[15:33] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And like I said, like this particular race one's been race one.
[15:37] \[SPEAKER_03\]: No, not necessarily, but yeah, but sure, you know, but this didn't bother me from that perspective specifically, like I wasn't like, man, wow, Black plays got to be X Y and Z, like I wasn't feeling any of them.
[15:50] \[SPEAKER_03\]: But I mean, you know, but there's just kind of, I've just started to distance myself from from stuff like this.
[15:57] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Okay, so interesting.
[15:58] \[SPEAKER_02\]: That's interesting.
[15:59] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I think I understand.
[16:00] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I think we may be the exact opposite when it comes to how we like plays and how they black plays and how they address race in particular.
[16:10] \[SPEAKER_02\]: That's very fascinating.
[16:12] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Well, I know you don't like August Wilson, and yeah, you know, and I do No, I feel like it's how I would assume Some people could see a play like this and like the almost grimyness of it all, which I think I Personally kind of related it's more when I see a August Wilson play
[16:34] \[SPEAKER_02\]: and how usually his main male characters are portrayed and like the lowest me and like the world and the piano, like that stuff, I just never been able to connect with in a way, the piano.
[16:46] \[SPEAKER_02\]: No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
[16:59] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah.
[17:00] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Well, I can go.
[17:01] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I, yeah, I really enjoyed this film.
[17:05] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I thought the acting was incredible.
[17:07] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Like everyone has said, I like I really liked the directing out of this as well.
[17:13] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It was like really funny at times.
[17:16] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It was shocking.
[17:17] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It was, it was pretty, pretty dark and get into spoilers soon.
[17:24] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I thought the,
[17:26] \[SPEAKER_04\]: The end was interesting.
[17:28] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I'm like, I want to talk more about that.
[17:31] \[SPEAKER_04\]: There is some moments that took me a little out of it at times and yeah, like, there is something like,
[17:43] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I personally left with like a, I don't know how to describe the feeling.
[17:49] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Like it was somewhat dark or somewhat like depressed, you know, like kind of just like 100% you know, like how revenge can an anger and hatred kind of consumes and like burns everything in its path.
[18:05] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And so that was, and so like when they're, they, I think they tried to also instill some element of hope, but I, I, I couldn't take.
[18:14] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I was just like, no, yeah, I guess not enough, but yeah, I'm, I'm really sad more people didn't see this and I'm not exactly sure why outside of maybe just like,
[18:30] \[SPEAKER_04\]: the timing of when they released this movie was probably not great.
[18:34] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah.
[18:35] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I asked you to see a lot of life marketing where to do ideas.
[18:38] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I did not see it like barely anything.
[18:41] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah, yeah.
[18:42] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I saw little, you know, and these things are always it's so hard to know because I think that
[18:49] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I always feel like the marketing stuff is a little bit of chicken the eggs scenario like I don't know What comes first like I know that they do?
[18:57] \[SPEAKER_04\]: They you know They they track out how like the buzz for movies before hand and then they kind of like determine how much marketing How much money they're gonna put into marketing based on how well they think it's going to do and it's usually has nothing to do with how good the film is but more about like
[19:14] \[SPEAKER_04\]: you know, whatever, I guess whatever traction they get from their announcements and stuff like that, it's harder with these kinds of films.
[19:21] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Like this is a film that it came out in May, but it's more like, I mean, this is a film that can be, you know, up for Academy Awards or at least got them awards and things like that.
[19:33] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Like, so it's like, it's it's strange to put it out in May as opposed to like October, November, you know, and I know there's like a lot like,
[19:42] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It gets crowded, but like May is pretty crowded too.
[19:45] \[SPEAKER_04\]: You're like dealing with like the beginning of blockbusters.
[19:49] \[SPEAKER_04\]: You know, like there were this came out the same week as obsession, which wound up being a huge one.
[19:55] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, it did.
[19:56] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah, that's wild.
[19:58] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Wow.
[19:59] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Wild.
[20:00] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I mean, no obsession was going to be stealing.
[20:02] \[SPEAKER_04\]: No, and no.
[20:04] \[SPEAKER_04\]: No, and I mean, like, I think, yeah, and that's the thing.
[20:08] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Like obsession also, like, I don't think obsession was
[20:11] \[SPEAKER_04\]: like marketed it.
[20:13] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It wasn't a lot.
[20:15] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It just kind of a lot.
[20:16] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah, I just kind of like I think it I think the trailers played in the front of people who saw horror movies and then And people saw those trailers and they were like, oh, that looks good and then the one side.
[20:27] \[SPEAKER_01\]: And also people who knew the play, you know, people who've seen the play.
[20:38] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I have seen a lot of that guy sketches, but I wasn't like, I wasn't like clocking what he was doing, but I feel like a good amount of people knew he had a movie coming out and was like, let's see, and in the work coming out, it was at Toronto, it was just massive.
[20:51] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Like wherever that movie got but, that shit was crazy.
[20:54] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But you know, I think this movie, I grew a break.
[20:57] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Anyway.
[20:58] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah.
[20:58] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Anyway, so yeah, that's a good head drawer.
[21:01] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And no, I think this movie was fantastic.
[21:02] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I think I think the directing of this movie was so cool because I struggle with plays, term movies that aren't musicals, because I feel like sometimes you're just watching people in a room.
[21:16] \[SPEAKER_02\]: doing the play, where it's like, for sure.
[21:18] \[SPEAKER_02\]: This was adapted for the screen.
[21:20] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And also, I haven't seen it, you know, you all let me know.
[21:24] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I haven't seen a movie that used the dialogue on screen in the way that it did.
[21:30] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Like, and I love that it did two things.
[21:33] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It still made it feel like theater, but also it showed like the twin telepathie, what I thought was so creative.
[21:41] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You know what's so interesting too is that this movie
[21:46] \[SPEAKER_02\]: The colors were saturated, man.
[21:49] \[SPEAKER_02\]: We had depth of feel like it was fun.
[21:52] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Someone else cuts like how she used the split screens and then like Francis, when it would jump to like I think them twirking outside of a car.
[21:59] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I was like, I enjoyed, I think every part of the movie, there are a couple of things I did in like,
[22:06] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I don't remember how in that play reading the dice.
[22:09] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I don't think it's about getting caught on fire.
[22:12] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And I don't think the youngest daughter dies.
[22:16] \[SPEAKER_02\]: We really, I don't think so.
[22:18] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Wow, right?
[22:19] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Let me make up the place.
[22:20] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Thanks.
[22:21] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Wow.
[22:21] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Wow.
[22:21] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Let me.
[22:21] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah, I'm.
[22:25] \[SPEAKER_01\]: How does this work?
[22:26] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Are we allowed to talk about spoilers?
[22:27] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Because I, I, the last two minutes.
[22:30] \[SPEAKER_01\]: We've never crossed into it.
[22:32] \[SPEAKER_03\]: We normally wait for, um, we normally wait for initial thoughts to start home up spoilers.
[22:37] \[SPEAKER_03\]: But, but since, dry was also the last initial thoughts.
[22:40] \[SPEAKER_03\]: We probably can't just just talk about it now, but that's actually surprising to me.
[22:45] \[SPEAKER_03\]: That was one of those moments for me watching where I was like, and this feels like what the play would do.
[22:52] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You know, it was like, it really felt like it was like, yeah, this is what the play was fully setting up this movie.
[22:58] \[SPEAKER_04\]: You know, I thought, I don't think she died in that play.
[23:01] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I'm gonna keep looking.
[23:02] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You guys keep going.
[23:03] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Uh, okay.
[23:05] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Yeah.
[23:06] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Also, I love the movie, all like consistently, I think what Dross said, like how it did it's, it was really creative.
[23:13] \[SPEAKER_01\]: And even when they were doing, um, is it been, uh, a fox about her name?
[23:18] \[SPEAKER_01\]: It's okay.
[23:19] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Yeah.
[23:20] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Yeah.
[23:20] \[SPEAKER_01\]: They look up.
[23:20] \[SPEAKER_01\]: When they were doing the cutscenes of her narrating and the flashback scenes, with the hair braiding, like I thought it was really cool and they still gives the whole movie's like consistent with like them.
[23:32] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Southern Gothic kind of vibe.
[23:36] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I thought like the texture of the film was fun.
[23:38] \[SPEAKER_01\]: It was very fun.
[23:40] \[SPEAKER_01\]: But the last two minutes was what I was like off.
[23:47] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Well, we really should figure that out.
[23:50] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I, so yeah, I definitely have just to jump off of what Jara said about it, because it definitely didn't feel like a play to me.
[23:58] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And that is usually not true of movies that are plays, which are, I don't mind so much.
[24:04] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Like sometimes I enjoy that.
[24:06] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I enjoy a good play movie, like, you know, like a one night in Miami or or a fat I really like fences and like even older ones like Glenn Gary Glenn Ross and things like that but like when I was a girl and I was a girl.
[24:22] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I think that typically because plays are pretty static and they don't have a lot of locations, you know.
[24:30] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And like this movie, like, wound up having a lot of locations and like, I'm sure some of the things like that were kind of just talked about in the play.
[24:39] \[SPEAKER_04\]: They decided to, like, re-enact, but they did so in a way that felt
[24:44] \[SPEAKER_04\]: real and didn't feel like like forced in, which sometimes that happens to.
[24:49] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And so like the beginning of this movie was like so great.
[24:54] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Like the first half was phenomenal though.
[24:58] \[SPEAKER_04\]: The kids.
[24:59] \[SPEAKER_04\]: So like yeah, like right?
[25:01] \[SPEAKER_04\]: They they introduce these kids.
[25:05] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And we see what they're like when they're
[25:10] \[SPEAKER_04\]: you know, one of them is a little bit more quiet and the other one has more of a a violent side to her.
[25:19] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Oh yeah, like the actual begin it like the right like does it it did it show the it shows it shows the very beginning is I'm sitting on the bench and then yet the younger sister getting up and like beat a lot of like whoever says it and then it cuts to
[25:37] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Right.
[25:37] \[SPEAKER_02\]: We don't see the flashback.
[25:39] \[SPEAKER_02\]: The first flashback.
[25:40] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I think until we get to live with the fox.
[25:41] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Oh, yeah.
[25:42] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Okay.
[25:42] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah.
[25:42] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Right.
[25:42] \[SPEAKER_02\]: They're at the job.
[25:43] \[SPEAKER_02\]: They're at there.
[25:43] \[SPEAKER_04\]: They're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're
[26:01] \[SPEAKER_04\]: All right, like, that everything has to be a fight.
[26:03] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I know.
[26:04] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Yeah, I like it because it shows the other twin senses.
[26:07] \[SPEAKER_01\]: She like has a twin sense.
[26:08] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Yeah, yeah, she like comes over, right?
[26:10] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Well, she was, but that's also so, so real and so real is like people.
[26:17] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You know, my stuff out of the group, like on growing up, he looks and moved this right kind of way.
[26:24] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And it became a thing that was so jarring that I remember at one point, I didn't care if you were a child.
[26:29] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I would like get mad at the child.
[26:31] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Then get mad at the parent for not checking the child for like staring or trying like you to explain this kid can't go staring at mother.
[26:37] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You know, um, so I love that part.
[26:40] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So she got to be on it.
[26:41] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Somebody got to, you know, she would that treat get on what happens as an at the early day drive because they got fired.
[26:51] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, and then we see them sleeping side by side.
[26:53] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Is that what it is?
[26:55] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah, and they get a the letter right.
[26:58] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Yeah, they go back to their apartment.
[27:00] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Right.
[27:02] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Oh, and they go back to their apartment.
[27:04] \[SPEAKER_01\]: And then it's the letter there.
[27:06] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Right, you know, it's something so interesting about James.
[27:10] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I know you saw it fresher than the rest of us, but there's something so interesting is this is when we start getting the the quick cuts and the kind of the mind-milled of the twins.
[27:20] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And James has your twin, like I'm very, I've always been very fast.
[27:23] \[SPEAKER_02\]: They do y'all truly have those moments of,
[27:27] \[SPEAKER_02\]: If one's in pain, another one feels, you know, it's like the rumor things that people believe twins have.
[27:33] \[SPEAKER_01\]: If I hit your sister, are you going to feel like?
[27:38] \[SPEAKER_01\]: It is, it is, it's weird because it's maybe not as like physical as that but like the I can feel my sister in terms of like there'll be times where I will just hit a ton of anxiety like I'll be living my life and for no reason at all and it it's not a parent asked why but I will feel anxious, I'll feel stressed and I'll feel tense.
[28:00] \[SPEAKER_01\]: And I'll be sitting there going like why am I feeling like this and like I'll call my sister up in a hundred percent of the times like if it's not if I don't have a reason why I'm feeling it it's not me feeling it I'll call my sister up.
[28:14] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Like she's either in a situation.
[28:17] \[SPEAKER_01\]: She's like in a thing, but I'm not immediately like, oh, that's Jella.
[28:21] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Like it feels like my own.
[28:23] \[SPEAKER_01\]: And then I have to be like, you know, kind of used like deduction to be like, why am I feeling this way?
[28:29] \[SPEAKER_01\]: And if I don't have logical reason why I'm like, oh, this has been mine.
[28:33] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Interesting.
[28:34] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I'm 100% believe though.
[28:36] \[SPEAKER_01\]: It's something where to happen to my sister like today right now Whereas like you know knock on wood the sheet.
[28:42] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I feel like I would know Like in my sister like this one wasn't here.
[28:45] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I feel like I would a hundred percent just like that's it Yeah, it's beer.
[28:52] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It's just a share of spears
[28:53] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Yeah, I think we do have like a little sliver of a share and I think too.
[28:58] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I love that how they showed like if they're in there There's a left of day like they could understand each other like they're having these conversations and I don't know if like me My sister we can't necessarily do it to that extent, but I know we could have whole conversation If I could look at her and like I know the vibe like we could communicate this a love are just like I'm I could already know the things that she will or will not like
[29:22] \[SPEAKER_01\]: You know, totally, our, like, what her response will be sometimes to certain scenarios.
[29:28] \[SPEAKER_01\]: So I'm, even while that was showing me my twin real looking at each other because we were like, oh, that's so fun.
[29:33] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Wow, that's so amazing.
[29:36] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, that's so amazing.
[29:37] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Yeah, I feel like with every sister dynamic now, even twins, but there's always going to be like the one that's like the talker and then the one that's going to be like, maybe a little reserved, you know?
[29:49] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Um, yeah, I don't know.
[29:50] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I don't know.
[29:51] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I think that stuff depends on between the two of you.
[29:54] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I feel like it depends what maybe you would be the more aggressive one.
[29:58] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I think maybe I don't know.
[30:01] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I think that stuff depends on between the two of you.
[30:02] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I feel like it depends on the day.
[30:04] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Yeah, it does depend on the day.
[30:05] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I feel like I'm more outwardly, but at the end of the day, I'm probably more sensitive.
[30:08] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, I think that's probably, I think that's very accurate.
[30:12] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah.
[30:12] \[SPEAKER_01\]: But at the time, my sister gives that point of aggression.
[30:15] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Oh, like, she's going to be evil.
[30:16] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yes.
[30:17] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yes.
[30:19] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, that's about right.
[30:21] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah.
[30:23] \[SPEAKER_02\]: This movie is interesting because I love when they get the letter from their mom and...
[30:29] \[SPEAKER_02\]: the difference of reactions.
[30:31] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And the fact that she's like, well, she knew he was going to be sensitive about it.
[30:34] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It didn't meet the mom and mom was like, well, I knew we're going to be sensitive about it.
[30:38] \[SPEAKER_02\]: No, no, like, and she ended up being really sensitive about it.
[30:42] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yes, she did.
[30:43] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And they were, and, and so the thing is that they didn't know, they thought their mom had died when they were children in the fire that burnt that kind of burnt them.
[30:53] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And
[30:54] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And they like hear that she's not like not only is she not dead.
[30:59] \[SPEAKER_04\]: She like knew about them and knew where they were, you know, and it was just like And then I guess the the twin did like know or she felt like, oh, yeah, she probably didn't want us to like see her.
[31:12] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Like in the state that she was in.
[31:14] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Yeah, regardless of the reasoning still.
[31:17] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, but that's wow.
[31:19] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You got let me know was a like, you know, like you got the say how to me mom say some I did I was interested in what the setup was because the mom basically had all those black women caretakers so I was wondering like,
[31:36] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I never quite understood who that was.
[31:38] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, like it looked cool as hell.
[31:40] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It did also I loved the idea of the mom.
[31:45] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I love them people did this.
[31:46] \[SPEAKER_02\]: The mom showing them what her body actually looks like.
[31:49] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And the maintenance of it, but we never see it.
[31:51] \[SPEAKER_02\]: We only see the reactions to it.
[31:53] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And the CD's two actresses like both tear up.
[31:56] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I'm like, yo, you're probably tearing up.
[31:58] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It's like a woman in sweatpants.
[31:59] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You know what I mean?
[32:00] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Like that's like,
[32:02] \[SPEAKER_04\]: You know, you mean the actor is right.
[32:04] \[SPEAKER_02\]: The actor's, yeah, like the the the the specification of that is is so beautiful.
[32:09] \[SPEAKER_04\]: But um, and so she basically kind of commissions them to go find their father and kill him.
[32:18] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yep.
[32:19] \[SPEAKER_04\]: because she's about to die and she wants to know that he's dead before she's dead.
[32:23] \[SPEAKER_02\]: That's real.
[32:23] \[SPEAKER_01\]: And she really only asks one of this, one of this, this is not a lie.
[32:27] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Yeah, she's telling me, like, nothing.
[32:28] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I want this to know.
[32:29] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I mean, they're both in the room.
[32:31] \[SPEAKER_03\]: She was like, she's like, you ain't got it.
[32:33] \[SPEAKER_03\]: But I said the letter that I didn't say the letter.
[32:35] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Yeah, she said one of you is more like your daddy than the other one.
[32:39] \[SPEAKER_02\]: She's like, the other one ain't got it in it.
[32:41] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But the other one is she's like, you ain't got it.
[32:43] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You ain't got it.
[32:44] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I know it at now, which is hilarious.
[32:47] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah, I was going to say we get the flashback here, too, right?
[32:52] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, which burrito so brutal man and again, they did something in this movie and I don't know how I feel about it.
[32:59] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Some very curious to know how you all feel about it.
[33:04] \[SPEAKER_02\]: They went with the casting of a
[33:07] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I think the director called him like, um, the epitome of a good black man, a black man, actor that we all know, a black man, to a safe around, like the epitome of a good black man.
[33:18] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And promising young woman to move it that came out, you know, a few years ago to the same thing.
[33:23] \[SPEAKER_02\]: The only one at the higher, the Emerald only one at like, the sweet guy from whatever show that people loved.
[33:30] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But for some reason, I think this movie didn't need
[33:36] \[SPEAKER_02\]: a good man.
[33:37] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I think this movie needed at least one who could play nuance to it.
[33:41] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Like somebody who like is a charming, I guess that's what they were going for.
[33:45] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I just struggle because I think like Sterling is so good and he's a really good actor, but like I understood the voice choice, but I was like, man, if you'd have like a Sam Jackson or somebody who is like a charming way to all.
[33:59] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I mean, yeah, but like I'm trying to track what you're saying to me reads more would read more villainous.
[34:13] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I think I wanted a more villainy, but also that charming devil.
[34:19] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I don't think I got the charming devil from I mean, but how long have you been following
[34:27] \[SPEAKER_02\]: That's what I remember him from.
[34:29] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And what?
[34:29] \[SPEAKER_03\]: The stuff I remember him from.
[34:30] \[SPEAKER_03\]: So on stage one, and then two supernatural.
[34:34] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I never had a match.
[34:35] \[SPEAKER_03\]: That's my idea.
[34:36] \[SPEAKER_03\]: He was on that for like three years as a full on like antagonistic, like he was like, it was literally, it was, it was essentially this role, but in the context of supernatural.
[34:50] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Like he was like supposed to be your buddy.
[34:52] \[SPEAKER_03\]: But then.
[34:53] \[SPEAKER_03\]: But he was worse than you like I don't know.
[34:56] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I've I've seen him do this I've seen him do this for a long time So I When he when it was him castes, this I was like yep That makes sense like I feel like he's more fillin isn't waves than he was in this, but maybe that's not honestly As a woman as a woman
[35:11] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Certainly came around was perfect, but he was a perfect cast because he isn't the Linus Offers.
[35:16] \[SPEAKER_00\]: That's the point.
[35:17] \[SPEAKER_01\]: That's how he had all those babies and students, all those women have first like he's so charming.
[35:22] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Like you wouldn't expect it.
[35:24] \[SPEAKER_01\]: He kind of has like, you know, he puts the walls down that like discernment kind of goes down.
[35:29] \[SPEAKER_01\]: And I think he had like even ample of how he talked and they kind of weird and murky like to play a little more villainous.
[35:40] \[SPEAKER_01\]: like that is and how we could flip it around and then show his nasty evil side.
[35:45] \[UNKNOWN\]: Yeah.
[35:46] \[UNKNOWN\]: Perfect.
[35:46] \[SPEAKER_02\]: That's a good one.
[35:47] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah, I felt like in this part of the opposite of how you viewed it.
[35:52] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Draw, but to me, it felt like the voice choice at the end was to cover how.
[35:58] \[SPEAKER_02\]: how if he would have just regularly said the lines it would have seemed like something was up to me I could not get to me and he just said the lines regular it would have been like no I'll trust yeah I'll trust you yeah that's real I can see that I can see that actually yeah I liked him too but we didn't get we yeah we don't get to him yet you know this whole the whole stuff with the decay fox was like
[36:20] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It feels surreal, but I really loved how it was filmed.
[36:27] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And then, you know, we're seeing, I guess, convinces her, what's the other friend, Anaya?
[36:34] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I see.
[36:36] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Oh, that's a name.
[36:37] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Oh, remember the name is Beyond.
[36:38] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah, yeah, Anaya and we're seeing.
[36:42] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah, I see.
[36:43] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Convinces and I, like, hey, just come with me.
[36:46] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Like, you don't have to do anything.
[36:48] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I'm the one who's gonna do it, just like, come with me.
[36:52] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And then they like, set off on this adventure.
[36:55] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I mean, a guy is very hesitant and reluctant to do it, but they go and set off.
[37:00] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And then, I mean, the scenes with the,
[37:04] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Like the feature, feature wife, I guess.
[37:09] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Oh, yeah, I think that.
[37:10] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, that's very clear.
[37:11] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I think, yeah, I think that holds.
[37:13] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Eric Alexander's not in the play.
[37:14] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I don't think that character's in the play.
[37:15] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I remember that part.
[37:16] \[SPEAKER_03\]: That was so funny.
[37:18] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah.
[37:18] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I think that is the fact that when everybody had the Holy Ghost and she was, or whatever it was, it was the devil.
[37:26] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And she was like, get out devil and then everybody collapsed.
[37:30] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I was floored.
[37:33] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I couldn't wait for whatever was going to come next after doing something like her alter to what this is so good oh my so good that to and that's not in the play you're saying I don't be that carried isn't there's nobody I remember it okay wow interview saying but was so isn't about
[37:53] \[SPEAKER_02\]: that character as well is that that family was so rotter die for him.
[37:58] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And I thought there was some interaction.
[38:00] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So she says she ain't seen a nigga and what 20 something years.
[38:04] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Like when does something crazy kid was born?
[38:06] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Now I was like 17.
[38:08] \[SPEAKER_01\]: The voice.
[38:09] \[SPEAKER_01\]: The song was like 17 or 18.
[38:11] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I was like, and it and I love the the young the shortness of the like just clocking it like wait.
[38:18] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Then again, coming back, like, what are you talking about?
[38:21] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Like, this is crazy.
[38:23] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And also, they're, man, they are in a all-white living room.
[38:28] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And she is eating fried chicken with two freaking fingers.
[38:32] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I was like, if this ain't the most southern shit I've ever seen.
[38:39] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Oh, my God, bro.
[38:40] \[SPEAKER_04\]: They find out they have a half brother.
[38:42] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Mm-hmm.
[38:43] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Which...
[38:45] \[SPEAKER_04\]: You would think with like, there would be some sort of like, wait a minute, but it feels like nobody's interested, like,
[38:55] \[SPEAKER_03\]: They're not interested.
[38:55] \[SPEAKER_03\]: He's not interested.
[38:56] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I thought that was a funny recurring thing in it where no one cared about their half siblings.
[39:04] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Like nobody.
[39:06] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You don't know, you have like, I know, every no one knew the dad, like they knew the dad, like if you, your relationship with them don't have nothing to do with my relationship with them don't have nothing to do with her really, I thought that was funny.
[39:18] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah, it was, it's bizarre.
[39:21] \[SPEAKER_01\]: And it's kind of cool because like everyone had like the daughters called their mother God, right?
[39:26] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Like, his daughters, but then they go and meet all these other families where like the God of their lives is their dad are certainly here.
[39:34] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Yeah, yeah, no.
[39:35] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I believe they have an altar to him and they're like waiting for him.
[39:39] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, they're worshiping him.
[39:41] \[SPEAKER_01\]: It's a cool contrast, you know?
[39:44] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, so interesting too, like that.
[39:48] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Even they can hear everything bad about him.
[39:50] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I'm very fascinated by that.
[39:51] \[SPEAKER_02\]: When people can hear the worst things about somebody and I understand you want to give a person benefit of the doubt.
[39:57] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But the fact that they hadn't seen this guy in 18 years or whatever is like, you still, I mean, like, and then it's his power.
[40:06] \[SPEAKER_03\]: That's his power.
[40:08] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You know what that man's power.
[40:10] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You know what it is?
[40:11] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And I think he did it towards the end a little bit, which I remember I was been into there
[40:18] \[SPEAKER_02\]: The the tall daughter like kind of gave in and was like almost being like susceptible to his like charm almost wanted to see him like worked in magic.
[40:26] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I don't think we needed to see him.
[40:29] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But I wished because they had all those flashbacks.
[40:31] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I wish you could see like him saying the sweet nothings to everybody and like being the devil and a suit.
[40:38] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I don't know.
[40:38] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I think I think I need a little bit more of that.
[40:40] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But that's just me being one more.
[40:43] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I mean, I mean, yeah, but there is something that's too like
[40:49] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Like a part of the power for them are at least with divine and her son was like they built him up so much in their mind.
[40:57] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yes, you know, and it was like almost more legend than the directorial choice of like we only see his smile will occasionally see an arm move for blah blah blah like to me that was that was doing all of that.
[41:12] \[SPEAKER_03\]: for me.
[41:13] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Like, like, I didn't need to see how he behaved because it was like, they kept being like, look at this man's teeth.
[41:22] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You know, like, look at that.
[41:26] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It's an undeniable smile.
[41:28] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I don't know.
[41:28] \[SPEAKER_03\]: That was that move.
[41:29] \[SPEAKER_03\]: That moved it enough for me.
[41:31] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I think.
[41:32] \[SPEAKER_01\]: You know, sort of smoke in a cigar.
[41:34] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Our cigarette all the time.
[41:36] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah, that's real.
[41:37] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yes, and the sm- yeah, and the his- His contour as he's lean on the door.
[41:45] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It's the, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
[41:46] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I mean, no shouts for it.
[41:49] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Man, she crushed it.
[41:50] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Like, I generally speak in like, for her being a first time director and I was trying to figure out if she like directed any shorts or anything like that and I can, I can particularly find anything.
[41:58] \[SPEAKER_02\]: All right, this woman cooked.
[42:00] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Like, I'm just like, I just,
[42:03] \[SPEAKER_03\]: My God.
[42:04] \[SPEAKER_03\]: To that same end, you were talking earlier about the like, the texture of the movie.
[42:09] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Am I wrong or did it, does it shift?
[42:14] \[SPEAKER_02\]: when we get to the house like is there like a okay yeah I was like wow this is incredible like a genuinely felt like we were in a different world she does a thing I think most movies don't do and like again I've been posting a lot about it on like Instagram it's just like we have lost color in our world like if you look at our fast food places we just have lost it
[42:35] \[SPEAKER_02\]: and this movie is so full of saturation, like everything, everything.
[42:39] \[SPEAKER_02\]: In the only time that movie gets dull is when shit hits the fan, which is 90, James, to be very particular, it's technically not even when they get to the house is when the older son dies, like what he's dead in that whole, like music video, okay, situation changes.
[42:56] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Like, I don't know, I just thought like, it was such a choice.
[43:04] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You know, I just she deserve she deserve more people to see this movie.
[43:08] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, I mean genuinely.
[43:10] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Yeah, or even like some of the scenes where it shows them like in a dream, you know, sometimes more surreal and you wouldn't even know, though, as it blends almost, you know, seen this way, the rest of the film, these little components, all of it is kind of like dream like,
[43:30] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Do you remember is there is there a moment that feels too good to be true like like is there a two two good to be true moment in the play do you remember It's I know it's been a minute.
[43:39] \[SPEAKER_02\]: No, I mean, I don't remember if there's a two good to be true moment.
[43:42] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I feel like this is very accurate.
[43:44] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I think the only moment that felt safe is when They first were around a younger brother, which I think the movie still does a little bit when the when the brother and sister connect
[43:54] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Oh, no, I did that.
[43:55] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It did that.
[43:56] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, very soon.
[43:57] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And I was like, and I was the only thing that was different.
[44:01] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah.
[44:02] \[SPEAKER_02\]: No, actually, that note, I'm not different.
[44:03] \[SPEAKER_02\]: That's only thing that felt like a safe haven.
[44:06] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I thought this movie was very fun, especially.
[44:08] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It's really good.
[44:10] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Oh, yeah, good.
[44:11] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Well, you know, I was going to say we didn't talk about the scene with a McKelty Williams.
[44:16] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It like they had, they take this book.
[44:19] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yes, and they go and they
[44:23] \[SPEAKER_04\]: find his lawyer.
[44:24] \[SPEAKER_04\]: The lawyer is great.
[44:25] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah.
[44:26] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah.
[44:27] \[UNKNOWN\]: Yeah.
[44:28] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah.
[44:28] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I mean, like, even just think about this as a play or an adaptation of a play, like us getting the sea.
[44:36] \[SPEAKER_03\]: his infomercial version of him.
[44:39] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And then like, you know, I don't have a tongue now and I'm a hardened sad sack version of myself.
[44:48] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I thought this was superbly acted.
[44:51] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I was on the edge of my seat.
[44:53] \[SPEAKER_03\]: This entire scene, you know.
[44:55] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And the humor, the comedy of like,
[44:59] \[SPEAKER_03\]: But him like prepping for receiving pain, that's it.
[45:03] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah, that was one hit and immediately buckling under the pain of a rock to the face because how do you prepare to be hit and face with a rock like that was.
[45:16] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I was so funny.
[45:18] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But I love that the pre, oh, you have his eyes.
[45:22] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Like you have the intensity of his eyes.
[45:24] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Like set up immediately immediately.
[45:28] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And then we literally washed that character.
[45:30] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I honestly fucking haven't seen something like this.
[45:34] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Like almost since night crawler, like we watch a character just get worse and worse, but accept it alone the way.
[45:41] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Like is almost like every part of every action she knew what she was doing and easily justified it because she had to.
[45:48] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And I remember in night crawler like that dude starts trash.
[45:51] \[SPEAKER_02\]: He justifies every messed up thing he does and that didn't, I mean he succeeds, but do you mean the character justifies it or really hard?
[45:57] \[SPEAKER_03\]: He justifies it.
[45:59] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I think she does.
[45:59] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I think the character does.
[46:00] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I won't point.
[46:01] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Oh, totally.
[46:03] \[SPEAKER_03\]: No, she does.
[46:03] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I have mean the entire time.
[46:04] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah.
[46:05] \[SPEAKER_03\]: She depends herself the entire time.
[46:07] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah.
[46:07] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah.
[46:08] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah.
[46:09] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Kind of comes like more corrupted to it.
[46:12] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I see likes that.
[46:13] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah.
[46:14] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Right.
[46:15] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Yeah.
[46:16] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And then the, the, the, this, their, their half, their half brother tries to kill them or their first half brother or the first half brother they meet I should say, yeah.
[46:28] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Try to kill them.
[46:29] \[SPEAKER_04\]: This was like a crazy scene, but also very tense.
[46:32] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah.
[46:33] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It's that scene.
[46:34] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I was like, this is all right.
[46:36] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Like that's only when I was like, all right, is he going to come back at the end or something?
[46:40] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And I was like, what's to deal with this?
[46:42] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Uh, it was too much action for it.
[46:44] \[SPEAKER_02\]: They also played it for comedy, right?
[46:46] \[SPEAKER_02\]: For comedy.
[46:47] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Is that, I thought it was going to be subtle.
[46:48] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Like pay off of it, but I was like, no, I guess he just didn't like them trying to kill his dad that he hoped came back.
[46:54] \[SPEAKER_04\]: So I guess that's I think it's just like another example of the mess that this guy left in his
[47:02] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I don't know if this is what the movie is trying to or the play or anything trying to say, but there is this little thing of like does evil get passed from, you know, parent to offspring, you know, like, and you felt like it was certainly saying that, right?
[47:22] \[SPEAKER_01\]: It's certainly saying that also to me fair the brother he was just trying to kill them for like he's like Oh, you guys killed my twin like he's a twin.
[47:31] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Oh, yeah, I thought it was like vengeance on vengeance on vengeance That was at the end, but I met there.
[47:36] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I met the motorcycle one.
[47:38] \[SPEAKER_02\]: That's what I call this also worth it me having having just seen it
[47:45] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It also works as a, as an almost misdirect because in the last scene, we learn that there's twins out there.
[47:54] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It's like, oh, is this one of those twins, you know, as part of his, is I think part of the thing that's going on in your mind when you're watching this scene.
[48:01] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And then that means I looked closer and I was like, oh, no, he's wearing a, it was like he's wearing, but no, shirt from the last scene.
[48:09] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Like, well, okay, right.
[48:10] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You're clearly one of those guys.
[48:13] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Even that point too is like they didn't even kill him when they locked them up.
[48:16] \[SPEAKER_02\]: They were like, bro, what's your pro like they were like why you'd be like, what is this screaming in your brook?
[48:21] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Was he like was he calling his father god at that or what was he saying what was he screaming when they left them?
[48:28] \[SPEAKER_04\]: He didn't I don't think he said god.
[48:31] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Oh, he was like he repeatedly said you think you can kill him him
[48:36] \[SPEAKER_03\]: him.
[48:37] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah, I felt like God to me, I think.
[48:41] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I took it as such.
[48:43] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I mean, that's what they were doing.
[48:45] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I mean, that is what they were doing for sure.
[48:47] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Also, something interesting because it was kind of that thing of, um, this movie started off until we, we see the younger sister, the shortest sister I need to remember the names of those are her interaction with Jeno Monet, something about this movie was
[49:06] \[SPEAKER_02\]: black man can be one of the most harmful things to black women.
[49:10] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It's like the dad literally tries to kill.
[49:15] \[SPEAKER_02\]: purposely his wife, and as he tries to explain, didn't expect the kids to like, whatever.
[49:20] \[SPEAKER_02\]: No, I don't like that.
[49:21] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I think you see the sun try to do it.
[49:23] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You see the sun's eventually try to do it.
[49:27] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And I'm like, is something very particular about like, almost every, every black dude they interact with except for the lawyer who's already been kind of like, unique to accept his punishment.
[49:39] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, they all try to kill these black, but try to kill a black woman at a certain point in his movie.
[49:44] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Um, yes, but before this, they themselves kill a black woman.
[49:49] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Which, which I.
[49:51] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I mean, if y'all would have just asked her, like, like, this woman finally got a favorite, they leave.
[49:59] \[SPEAKER_03\]: No, they work in, because that's how cat night cat I watched with cat and the whole scene, we were like, oh man, this woman don't deserve it.
[50:07] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Like we know, you see it coming.
[50:09] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You know what's coming.
[50:11] \[SPEAKER_03\]: But then she goes, y'all bitches need to, like whatever it is that she says.
[50:17] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Y'all need to be better than it but us.
[50:19] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I call him in her head and I say, they will, well, I, okay.
[50:23] \[SPEAKER_01\]: She's very, she's very, she will.
[50:27] \[SPEAKER_01\]: She was very happy.
[50:28] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And I don't deserve to be spit in my face.
[50:31] \[SPEAKER_01\]: That's true.
[50:33] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Yeah.
[50:33] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah.
[50:34] \[SPEAKER_04\]: She, she didn't need to do all that.
[50:36] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I was like, now they're going to kill you.
[50:38] \[SPEAKER_01\]: You, you literally just have to say that.
[50:40] \[SPEAKER_04\]: The thing that I really didn't understand about this moment was, I was just like,
[50:45] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Do you have no fear of like, I just don't understand.
[50:49] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Like, you're trying to get away.
[50:51] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Like, you're, you're trying to leave this all behind.
[50:53] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Like, you're literally at the precipice of leaving all of this.
[50:57] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And like, just say, like, this is what rich people are supposed to do.
[51:01] \[SPEAKER_04\]: You just,
[51:02] \[SPEAKER_04\]: say yes yes yes until you get away and then you're worried about it but then you get away and then you're good yeah but now she had a runner mouth and she died so that said when this happened I was like right when that happened I was like hmm I don't think this twin can live
[51:18] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, like you knew what you knew was too far at that point.
[51:20] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I didn't agree.
[51:21] \[SPEAKER_03\]: That's when you thought she couldn't live.
[51:23] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah.
[51:23] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I thought it was too far because I was like, she ain't living.
[51:26] \[SPEAKER_01\]: It was like her killing her man.
[51:28] \[SPEAKER_01\]: It was for killing another woman.
[51:29] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yes, agree.
[51:30] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Agreed.
[51:31] \[SPEAKER_03\]: So for me, most of my thing that was made it hard is I felt like she was going die when she was ready to kill the lawyer.
[51:43] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It was like, it was like, because she was so, uh, like the dad, you know, and granted that's what, you know, this is about stories about him, blah, blah, whatever, but I was like, there's no way, if this is going to continue.
[52:02] \[SPEAKER_03\]: that that we're going to end in a certain kind of way.
[52:05] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And this was one of those, this is what I was talking about before, like, oh, there's certain plays that I'm just kind of like, I don't know if I can blah, blah, blah.
[52:12] \[SPEAKER_03\]: That's one of those things where it's like, when you, when you know someone is dead early, because of like, 10 minutes of American theater or whatever, I was just like, ah, it just made me a sin and because the lawyer and things like that.
[52:26] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It could, to me, it could have went one or two ways.
[52:28] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It could have been, yes, she could go down.
[52:30] \[SPEAKER_04\]: The wrong path and die, but she can also turn back, you know, and be like, you don't have to be like him, you know.
[52:36] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yes, I mean, I don't make the right choice, but then of course, of course, she doesn't.
[52:43] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And so it's not a surprise that she then kills the twit to kills the first twin brother.
[52:50] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Wait, did she kill him?
[52:51] \[SPEAKER_02\]: She did, but she did.
[52:52] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah.
[52:54] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, well, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no
[53:14] \[SPEAKER_03\]: No, no, no, she said to, she said to Janell Monet, you lucky my sister here after she's come here.
[53:21] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Me dead.
[53:23] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Now Monet is clearly dead on this side of the room.
[53:26] \[SPEAKER_03\]: She's like, you lucky my sister here.
[53:28] \[SPEAKER_03\]: That's crazy.
[53:28] \[SPEAKER_03\]: She crazy.
[53:29] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Oh, she got it.
[53:30] \[SPEAKER_04\]: She wasn't.
[53:32] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I also don't like genel monays death felt so brutal that I kind of wanted brutal I was like I didn't want her to have the I didn't want the only black woman to die to have the most brutal one like I felt like the brothers weren't that bad as her
[53:49] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And I guess Sterlands was bad, but like to know more nays like we just watch her just like wailing and more and more blood splatter and more and more blood splatter and it's just like and she's literally covered in blood and I'm like man, I just
[54:03] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I said, again, I just wish they were like, hey, where are you going?
[54:06] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So do you know, but just be like, this dude is abusive to me, too.
[54:08] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Like, that's like, I just wish to have it, and you know, I don't know.
[54:13] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I know, but she didn't care, she wasn't trying to relate.
[54:17] \[SPEAKER_04\]: She didn't care about them.
[54:18] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah, as real.
[54:38] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Right, it's it is.
[54:39] \[SPEAKER_03\]: That would have been a whole other conversation between Anaia and Racine.
[54:45] \[SPEAKER_03\]: We're still killers.
[54:46] \[SPEAKER_03\]: No, I would have been like, Oh no, she's fine.
[54:48] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I said blah blah.
[54:49] \[SPEAKER_02\]: That's real, that's real.
[54:51] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I knew the moment that the old that I don't know.
[54:54] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I'm sing older that the more Jack twin was like, ooh, dad sent them.
[54:59] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I knew immediately he thought they were like,
[55:03] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Stripers, workers, or strippers, and I was like, oh my god, this is, these are your half-sisters.
[55:09] \[SPEAKER_04\]: You don't even know.
[55:10] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Yeah, I know, I'm like, oh, no.
[55:12] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Yeah, that part was a little uncomfortable.
[55:13] \[SPEAKER_01\]: That part was a little uncomfortable because it was like, oh, you're like, that's the thing over here.
[55:17] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Yeah.
[55:18] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And then it wasn't to be like, hey, dude, you got to do.
[55:21] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Let's get, you know, I was like, oh, no.
[55:23] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And then it was so awkward, but it's okay.
[55:25] \[SPEAKER_04\]: So this moment where they actually, they're like, oh, and they start to do, they dance.
[55:29] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It's like, it's such a strange moment because
[55:32] \[SPEAKER_04\]: there's obviously the audience dramatic irony part of you that's like this is this is gross and also like why are they doing it because they know but like you know they're just doing it but then like it seems like they're having a little bit of fun and like it's almost like I felt so like I felt so bad because I I was like man this you know especially the uh what's your name um
[56:00] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And I like, like, like, a Naya was so like starved for people recognizing her beauty that like this moment meant so much to her that she could feel sexy and like.
[56:17] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And like, oh, even though it's like, it's just a bunch of guys in a freaking living room, just like oddly over them stripping, but that, like, it meant something to her.
[56:26] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And then when that was like stripped away, because like, they're, they start laughing at her or they tell her like, you know, turn around or I forgot what they said exactly, but.
[56:35] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah, turn her face the wall face the wall like he went to go like so I don't know if he had to go, but yeah, it's what her man says to her right.
[56:47] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, that was like a repeat of yeah, I will say I, I, I, I think I think if you can be cast in the movie, it is wonderful and everyone deserves it, oh,
[57:02] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I think the two brothers might have been my least favorite part of the movie.
[57:09] \[SPEAKER_03\]: What was one of the brothers?
[57:10] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Okay.
[57:12] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I.
[57:12] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Okay.
[57:12] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Has anyone noticed that Jura has not like all the black men in the film?
[57:16] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Where's my thing?
[57:17] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Where's my thing?
[57:18] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I think.
[57:19] \[SPEAKER_02\]: That's your mouth.
[57:20] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I think.
[57:21] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Again, if it was not like certainly I understand what he was doing.
[57:23] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I just don't know if that was.
[57:25] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But I was expecting.
[57:26] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I think I was like, I understand it.
[57:28] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And I think, you know, if I see it again, like I totally understand like he was a dude who like wore boat shoes and slippers, but we'll say it even though I got, I got understand that.
[57:37] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I think that again for me is like, if you watch like, even though the movie's very problematic, promising and woman, how they addressed evil, good men and even how obsession of dresses, evil, good men.
[57:49] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I think I was just more on board with.
[57:53] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Whereas like it was something about
[57:55] \[SPEAKER_02\]: These two actors not necessarily a young kid son, but that older son I was like a little too down the middle I was like I'm watching this.
[58:02] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I was like I'm watching this dude act I got felt it.
[58:05] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I was like I'm watching this dude Pretend to be a suburban dude who was acting super hard Because I think when I saw the reading everybody it just the dude just felt cocky like I think the actor He's on something now.
[58:17] \[SPEAKER_02\]: He just felt like a cocky like whatever whatever
[58:19] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Who happened I guess be more urban where I don't know.
[58:22] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It was just something about that dude.
[58:23] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I was like, I was just wasn't I don't know.
[58:25] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I don't know.
[58:26] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I was struggling with him.
[58:27] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Yeah, honestly, I hear you.
[58:30] \[SPEAKER_01\]: My biggest warped in like with all of it is that they had passed it all these twins, but they didn't pick any two actors that even looked alike.
[58:38] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I didn't know I know that.
[58:39] \[SPEAKER_01\]: But especially in the boys, I was like, oh, they're not even brothers.
[58:42] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, and I was like, why do you twins?
[58:44] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I was like, these firemen twins.
[58:46] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Like, that part was weird.
[58:48] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It felt like fresh prints.
[58:50] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It felt like, oh, we got Will and we got Carlton.
[58:52] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Which maybe that was the point.
[58:54] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Also like, why do they... Like, I feel like movies used to find twins.
[58:59] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Like, there are twin actors.
[59:00] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Like, why can't you just find real twins?
[59:02] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yes.
[59:03] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Literally.
[59:04] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Is it not?
[59:04] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It's not hard.
[59:05] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It's not hard.
[59:07] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It's considered a specialty.
[59:09] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Like, it's a specialty skill.
[59:11] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And like, you know, nothing against fraternal twins, but like, there's a difference, you know?
[59:17] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Like, they're, I can say it, they're not real twins.
[59:19] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Oh yeah, you can say it, you can say it.
[59:21] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I can say it, I don't know, it's on the court.
[59:23] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Well, I mean, especially in this day and age, where so many of fraternal twins are because of IVF or, you know, something that we're doing to help people get pregnant as opposed to,
[59:37] \[SPEAKER_04\]: just like the random national currents of twins.
[59:40] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Anyway, I don't know.
[59:41] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I'm a real, I didn't know fake twins was a thing.
[59:44] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It's not a thing.
[59:45] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I mean, I know that maternal versus Jaylon just said they're not real.
[59:50] \[SPEAKER_01\]: So the girl, she's like, they're twins, but they're not real twins.
[59:55] \[SPEAKER_04\]: They're not twins in the sense that we think of it, which is sharing the same DNA.
[1:00:03] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It's, yeah, there's just, they just happen to both have different eggs and the mothers move the same time.
[1:00:11] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Oh, anyway.
[1:00:14] \[SPEAKER_04\]: But yeah, I think that, yeah, I agree.
[1:00:17] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It would have been nice if they were like, they even look remotely.
[1:00:20] \[SPEAKER_03\]: If they looked remotely like this, especially the brothers, because what the sisters have is the, at least to make up, and obviously they're different heights.
[1:00:30] \[SPEAKER_03\]: So we're gonna be dealing with that the whole time, but the make-up was doing a lot.
[1:00:35] \[SPEAKER_03\]: But then, but then the brothers, it was like, well, there's no,
[1:00:38] \[SPEAKER_04\]: You don't have a makeup thing for the little girl twins looked very similar.
[1:00:43] \[SPEAKER_02\]: They look like twins.
[1:00:44] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah.
[1:00:45] \[SPEAKER_04\]: They're probably twins.
[1:00:45] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah, exactly.
[1:00:48] \[SPEAKER_02\]: They probably are twins.
[1:00:49] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But again, I think when it comes to this this movie, I think it was interesting.
[1:00:53] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Once we of course saw the the younger quote unquote.
[1:00:56] \[SPEAKER_02\]: We've a total multiple times a sweet brother.
[1:00:58] \[SPEAKER_02\]: that tends to kill the sweet sister.
[1:01:01] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I'm sorry, sorry, the the mean sister.
[1:01:03] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I don't see that fight was kind of crazy, because that low nigga was strong.
[1:01:07] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It was the sweet sister, wasn't it?
[1:01:09] \[SPEAKER_02\]: He would have, so he would have to the sweet sister, but then the, oh, you mean the net, then the next part.
[1:01:13] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah, the net, the net, the net, the net, the net.
[1:01:15] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, and then when like, you know, yeah, and the sweet sister had to kill him.
[1:01:19] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And it's interesting because,
[1:01:22] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I guess maybe I did like certainly a little bit.
[1:01:24] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Whether something about like, them hiding under that table is certainly no one instantly or like, bro, I was an insurance.
[1:01:31] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yes, we have a lot to talk about.
[1:01:33] \[SPEAKER_04\]: But also his entrance, not just homely walking by the dead bot, like a float, the dead floating body of his son and a pool with blood everywhere.
[1:01:45] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And then coming into the house and stepping over his dead son's under his other son's body.
[1:01:51] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And then you're like taking off his shoes and putting on his slides.
[1:01:54] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And I was just like making a sandwich, I was like, you're like, oh, this guy is a true psychopath.
[1:02:01] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And then he asked Tommy, like, well, you come up here and it wears his wife and she was like, she's dead, then they get it and make a face.
[1:02:07] \[SPEAKER_04\]: He just took a breath and I was like, yo, this, niggas, crazy and it's like, he's upset not because of any emotional ties to the people to his wife or his offspring.
[1:02:20] \[SPEAKER_04\]: But because of what it means about his pride and like his belongings, you know, yeah, exactly, yeah, I was working on that.
[1:02:31] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You messed it up.
[1:02:32] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah, I was working on this.
[1:02:35] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Jesus.
[1:02:35] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It's like a statement.
[1:02:37] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It's crazy.
[1:02:38] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I mean, I will say I did like, to you guys at this point, having a person like Sterling.
[1:02:44] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Be such a welcoming face like watching the daughter slowly.
[1:02:50] \[SPEAKER_02\]: When he's like, hey, you have my grandson.
[1:02:54] \[SPEAKER_02\]: That's all I got now, it's us.
[1:02:56] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And he's like slowly like tries to hug her and like, you see her, lean in.
[1:03:03] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I find that data went nuts.
[1:03:04] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Like, bro, girl, what you doing?
[1:03:08] \[SPEAKER_02\]: What you doing?
[1:03:10] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I do like to fight it then.
[1:03:11] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I thought that fight was very real.
[1:03:13] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It's it was like he's still with the energy, but they like I like to rock coming in again.
[1:03:17] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah.
[1:03:19] \[SPEAKER_02\]: The fire thing I just was not expecting her to die just like so.
[1:03:23] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah.
[1:03:24] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah.
[1:03:24] \[SPEAKER_02\]: The effects were really bad.
[1:03:26] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah.
[1:03:26] \[SPEAKER_02\]: The effects were weird on that part.
[1:03:27] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Oh, I was like, the thanks for that.
[1:03:30] \[SPEAKER_00\]: This song's very little.
[1:03:31] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah.
[1:03:31] \[SPEAKER_02\]: The fight to fight was a little.
[1:03:33] \[SPEAKER_00\]: The song's very little.
[1:03:34] \[SPEAKER_02\]: too many quick cuts, man, too many quick cuts.
[1:03:37] \[SPEAKER_02\]: They were a little what, they were a little what?
[1:03:39] \[SPEAKER_00\]: They were like, there's one thing too where I saw a punch, like, get thrown and not even hit.
[1:03:44] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Just listen, you just treat this.
[1:03:46] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah, I felt a little bit of that.
[1:03:48] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I felt a little bit of that in this scene and also in the, um, the biker scene too, but then that felt on purpose, like in the, the biker scene, it felt like they were like intentionally, like never being, yeah, yeah, clumsy with it, but then also,
[1:04:03] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Had a time work This was I was like bro is it it was it was it was a middle of the day it was like so bright and shiny and then all of a sudden It's a night time in like a split second.
[1:04:17] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I was like how's it nighttime and then after they kill him and they broke out How's it some dawn?
[1:04:22] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I was like what the damn again?
[1:04:23] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I was like, were they just here for 14 now?
[1:04:25] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah Wow, wow Wow, yeah, I was like what was the time?
[1:04:33] \[SPEAKER_04\]: So anyway, I'm sure that was, you know, there was some production things that happened there that they just couldn't fix.
[1:04:40] \[SPEAKER_04\]: But I literally, I was like, it was sad because you didn't notice any of this stuff, like any of like, then not having a lot of money, you didn't notice into the mayor hand and then it was like, they ran out of money.
[1:04:53] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Yeah.
[1:04:54] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It was like, oh, this guy kind of crazy.
[1:04:55] \[SPEAKER_02\]: They ran out of time and money.
[1:04:56] \[SPEAKER_00\]: It was the last two minutes to show that.
[1:04:58] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I was like, oh, this is this is real quick.
[1:05:01] \[SPEAKER_00\]: When he pulled her into the fire, he was like, you get survived.
[1:05:06] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Your mom could have survived a whole fire.
[1:05:08] \[SPEAKER_00\]: You're telling me you couldn't kick him off.
[1:05:10] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I know.
[1:05:11] \[SPEAKER_00\]: The student is fully on fire.
[1:05:14] \[SPEAKER_04\]: How is he reaching over like freaking Freddy Kruger and pulling her in?
[1:05:19] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Yeah, and you say that's your tweet and you too like this and you're just ran away like legit rent just ran straight out the house.
[1:05:25] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I was like, okay, okay.
[1:05:28] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, I'll just move in this movie to.
[1:05:29] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, I'm like we just we just had to give up.
[1:05:31] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, to get out of here.
[1:05:32] \[SPEAKER_02\]: That's what that was we had to get out of here real quick.
[1:05:36] \[SPEAKER_02\]: That's hilarious.
[1:05:37] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, man.
[1:05:38] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Oh, I guess that's it.
[1:05:40] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I mean, we how does it end is her.
[1:05:43] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It's her waiting for the bus and then we see her holding her daughter with a baby saying that she's going to rea holding her baby.
[1:05:49] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Right.
[1:05:50] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And she's going to tell her no tell her about her aunt.
[1:05:53] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Got it.
[1:05:54] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Got it.
[1:05:54] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Got it.
[1:05:54] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Got it.
[1:05:54] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Got it.
[1:05:55] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Got it.
[1:05:55] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Got it.
[1:05:55] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Got it.
[1:05:56] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Got it.
[1:05:56] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Got it.
[1:05:56] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Got it.
[1:05:56] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Got it.
[1:05:57] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Got it.
[1:05:57] \[SPEAKER_02\]: All right.
[1:05:57] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Well, that was sweet.
[1:05:59] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I apparently the play.
[1:06:01] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You get to see the moment where Naya interacts with her mom again at the end, which I think is missing from this movie.
[1:06:12] \[SPEAKER_03\]: The whole thing was do this and bring something back to me and like, and we hear them were, they refer to that a few times to the point where like to not have it, that's another indication of like, oh, they couldn't pay Vivekan on the day, you know, or whatever.
[1:06:26] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know.
[1:06:29] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Vivekan was like, I want my money, want my money yet.
[1:06:32] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah, she was like, I'm doing one scene.
[1:06:33] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Wait, wait, wait, it's not a news.
[1:06:36] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You know, if I'm leaving another scene, I'm kidding.
[1:06:39] \[SPEAKER_00\]: You're saying I'm right in my hair, too.
[1:06:40] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah, like, where is this money?
[1:06:44] \[SPEAKER_03\]: They're only in that scene because they're actually bringing that money.
[1:06:48] \[SPEAKER_03\]: That wasn't scripted.
[1:06:50] \[SPEAKER_02\]: That's so funny.
[1:06:51] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Honestly, probably true.
[1:06:53] \[SPEAKER_02\]: We joke, probably 100% true.
[1:06:55] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Oh, yeah.
[1:06:57] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I don't even know what to say about this movie.
[1:07:02] \[SPEAKER_03\]: this ending meant, you know, that's the part that I think that I struggle with the most ultimately, because you know, I think we're landing on, she's going to try to pass on something else to her child, right?
[1:07:18] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Like this is this is what's been passed on.
[1:07:21] \[SPEAKER_03\]: We're watching that the whole movie.
[1:07:22] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And then I'm going to not pass on a on a new thing.
[1:07:25] \[SPEAKER_03\]: But to your point, or what you were saying earlier, Bray, it's so miserable.
[1:07:31] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It's so miserable that like it feels hard to latch on to that hope, but I guess I mean, but I mean, maybe that's the power of the play you know
[1:07:41] \[SPEAKER_03\]: the power of the play is that they're like they're offering or the of the of the story is that they're offering up one last and here's that no matter how hard it gets here's that hope you know like let's put aside the reality of there's that the her blood is in there and they go find a hundred percent yeah I was like let's put it right there are four dead bodies or five
[1:08:12] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It's just like, I don't know how you're getting away with any of this, but alone, okay.
[1:08:18] \[SPEAKER_04\]: But like, even putting that aside, I'm like, you murdered some, but like, you murdered someone, you were two people, I guess you could say, they have your sock.
[1:08:29] \[SPEAKER_01\]: You know what, you're stuck with the rock.
[1:08:31] \[SPEAKER_04\]: But like, even just like emotionally, you murdered two people and witnessed your twin sister burn to death in front of you,
[1:08:40] \[SPEAKER_04\]: you have no family like you have a baby that you're going to raise by yourself.
[1:08:44] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Like I just felt like I was like I don't know.
[1:08:46] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And I so I would literally was like am I supposed to feel hope in this moment because it feels like oh now this poor child is about to experience the same pain and hurt that this that she has to go through and like this cycle isn't going to end.
[1:09:02] \[SPEAKER_04\]: That's how I felt, but I don't think the movie wanted me to feel that way.
[1:09:05] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It's just was like, I was like, I don't know how I'm not supposed to feel this way.
[1:09:08] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It wants you to feel like there's the possibility that the cycle can it.
[1:09:13] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Right.
[1:09:13] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Maybe not that it is definitely over, but that it can end.
[1:09:17] \[SPEAKER_03\]: What you're getting, I think, is actually, you know, if I, if I divorce myself from how miserable I felt that this movie and just think about that, I'm like, oh, great.
[1:09:26] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You know, sure.
[1:09:28] \[SPEAKER_03\]: But I struggle, because I was literally, it was like, so the darker the darker recene got, the harder it was to watch for me.
[1:09:38] \[SPEAKER_03\]: For me.
[1:09:39] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Like it then.
[1:09:40] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I can do it.
[1:09:42] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I feel like it ending with the Naya, though, the sensitive one right and like the one that had kind of more of a moral code the one that was wanting love this has like a lot of love to give like I feel like it ending on her and like presumably, since it didn't show the mother again, you're just like all of these this pain and all of this anger and hate and violence is like.
[1:10:01] \[SPEAKER_01\]: is done.
[1:10:02] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Everyone else has died and stopped and like the only one left was the sensitive loving one that's now a new mother.
[1:10:08] \[SPEAKER_00\]: So it's like kind of just like a new.
[1:10:10] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And he does leave hope for like a new generation of this like intergenerational trauma and pain to be like over.
[1:10:17] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I like that evil is no longer it's like a butt of hope.
[1:10:20] \[SPEAKER_00\]: But yeah, she's in a tough spot because you've gone to jail.
[1:10:22] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I don't know.
[1:10:29] \[SPEAKER_00\]: She definitely going to jail, I mean, she has to, like, she, yeah, you know, yeah, man, yeah, Well, last closing point and other questions I float around my head watching this movie, I was like,
[1:10:45] \[SPEAKER_00\]: They were walking a lot once I was stressing out was when that car got destroyed.
[1:10:50] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Just that was not a shame.
[1:10:51] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I don't know how I don't know.
[1:10:53] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Oh, I guess they took a bus.
[1:10:54] \[SPEAKER_04\]: They took a bus, didn't they?
[1:10:56] \[SPEAKER_04\]: They did.
[1:10:57] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And then they just kept walking.
[1:10:58] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It was so funny.
[1:10:59] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I was like, there's a bus stop just right outside.
[1:11:01] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Right outside.
[1:11:02] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Well, the bus.
[1:11:03] \[SPEAKER_03\]: The bus is close enough for her to walk back to.
[1:11:06] \[SPEAKER_03\]: But it's, but it's certainly not on the property got it.
[1:11:09] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah, it's, it's supposed to be a bit of a walk.
[1:11:11] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Okay.
[1:11:12] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah.
[1:11:13] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Also, Bray, we had to keep the movie going.
[1:11:16] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So we sure did.
[1:11:19] \[SPEAKER_04\]: We read in review films not based on how much we liked it, but whether or not it helps the cause of leading black actors in Hollywood.
[1:11:29] \[SPEAKER_04\]: That's right, it's time for the cause.
[1:11:31] \[SPEAKER_04\]: So the way this works is that we're gonna throw up either a black fist to say that it fully helps the cause of leading black actors in Hollywood.
[1:11:40] \[SPEAKER_04\]: A white palm to say it's someone helps the cause or nothing to say it doesn't help the cause at all.
[1:11:46] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yep, and before you even count down, I'm putting up twin black fists.
[1:11:51] \[SPEAKER_02\]: That's what I'm doing right now James James First account before you even count him down You got a you know before the floor does not recognize That's not the whole works James You're gonna confuse five two one
[1:12:11] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And they back All black things are bad.
[1:12:13] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You don't get to in black fist James.
[1:12:17] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I'm doing twin black Like I'm sorry that I appropriate a jayland you Jayland why'd you give it a black feel?
[1:12:34] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Why don't I give it a black discuss?
[1:12:36] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I just also think black stories like the fact that this went from a black playwright from the stage And was adapted into a movie.
[1:12:44] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I think like I love that I think we need more of that and think we need more stories I can beat down by both.
[1:12:50] \[SPEAKER_00\]: It was the first time director and I still think she did great I think overall and it was a good story
[1:12:57] \[SPEAKER_00\]: It's a fun story, you know, was it done perfect?
[1:12:59] \[SPEAKER_00\]: No, but was it creative?
[1:13:01] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Yes, I was there so a lot to take away.
[1:13:04] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Yeah, so she had a black fist.
[1:13:05] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I dig it.
[1:13:05] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Hmm.
[1:13:06] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I dig it.
[1:13:07] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Uh, I can go, I agree.
[1:13:09] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I don't say I just concur.
[1:13:10] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I think.
[1:13:11] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, I think that's exactly why it deserves all the goods.
[1:13:14] \[SPEAKER_04\]: So yeah, I just agree agree as well.
[1:13:17] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And I think that the performances of these two actually says are really standouts.
[1:13:23] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And even if the movie didn't do well at the box office, the hope is because it did so well, critically that people will, you know, the movie industry Hollywood.
[1:13:35] \[SPEAKER_04\]: would see it and give these actors other chances and hopefully this filmmaker and other chance too because I think it was a great directorial debut and you know occasionally they don't you know care about how well you did at the box office it was really good and you know you maybe get another chance I don't know if that's going to happen but hopefully oh she does man I really
[1:14:01] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah, I mean, 100% echo everybody's sentiments.
[1:14:04] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I know Carl from way back.
[1:14:05] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And it's just cool to see how her star is climbing.
[1:14:10] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And I mean, and then, and even, and everybody in this, I thought did a fantastic job, but I liked everybody.
[1:14:16] \[SPEAKER_03\]: But, but specifically like the fact that they let her, this, this playwright direct her play a lot.
[1:14:23] \[SPEAKER_03\]: like kudos to everybody on on the above the line who was like you know what we're going to make this we're going to make this happen because that's like good job I'll tell you.
[1:14:33] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah, you know what he said.
[1:14:36] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I think they did.
[1:14:37] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Oh, wow.
[1:14:38] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It was Tesla Thompson's company as well.
[1:14:40] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Oh, never mind.
[1:14:41] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I'm wrong.
[1:14:42] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It's Orion.
[1:14:44] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Oh, yeah, Ryan and that's who did the lot.
[1:14:47] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah.
[1:14:48] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Oh, wow.
[1:14:48] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I forgot to write.
[1:14:49] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I'll say it was a real.
[1:14:50] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Um, yeah.
[1:14:51] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And so like sincerely like that's that's that's cool as hell, but y'all that y'all and she knocked it and then on top of that she knocked it out of the park.
[1:14:59] \[SPEAKER_03\]: So yeah, black fist all around to black fist twin black fist
