This week, James, Jerah, and Jon are getting back their unfinished discussion of The Burial (2023), directed by Maggie Betts, screenplay by Dough Wright and Maggie Betts, story by Doug Wright, based on “The Burial” by Jonathan Harr, starring Tommy Lee Jones, Jamie Foxx, Jurnee Smollett, Alan Ruck, Mamoudou Athie, Pamela Reed, and Bill Camp. Together, they cover their experiences with jury duty, their reluctance to fully talk about the movie, James tipping his rating for The Cause extremely early, seeing Jurnee Smollett across the room, and much, much more! ## Transcript

[0:07] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Have you guys ever served on a jury?
[0:09] \[SPEAKER_02\]: No.
[0:10] \[SPEAKER_03\]: No.
[0:11] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Or... No, yeah, no.
[0:13] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I was about to say.
[0:13] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I've never had to do jury.
[0:15] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Like, I've somehow always have, you know, luckily got out of jury duty.
[0:20] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I'm, I am.
[0:22] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I've gotten it a few times, but I've never had to, uh...
[0:25] \[SPEAKER_05\]: like to be on a jury, but I, you've got to record time I was on call.
[0:32] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I've gone to the courthouse, and then there was one time I was on call.
[0:35] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I did not have to go to the courthouse, but I had to keep checking in online.
[0:38] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I didn't really scare it.
[0:39] \[SPEAKER_05\]: That I didn't check in the last day.
[0:42] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Oh, and I didn't care about that apparently.
[0:46] \[SPEAKER_05\]: They do really care about the and then, and then I'm also nervous about
[0:50] \[SPEAKER_05\]: like I was in I said in Ohio address for the first like handful of years that I was in New York and I would keep getting like summons to those and I don't know if I like I'm remembering now I'm like everything was fine like I never got like no one was ever like you're going to jail but I'm like am I in trouble?
[1:10] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I like don't know, and I'm scared to check because I feel like once I check there you'd be like, yep, actually you're supposed to be in jail, you know what I mean?
[1:16] \[SPEAKER_05\]: And then they, they supposed to be in jail, actually, actually not only are you in trouble, but right over here, so, you know, I'm scared.
[1:27] \[SPEAKER_05\]: But I, you know, but I have gotten the summons and I typically do my due diligence.
[1:32] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, I've been to the courthouse twice, but I, I, I don't want it.
[1:38] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Oh twice.
[1:39] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, but I didn't I never had a serve like one time I was just I just like was there the whole day and then I never got called in and then the other time and that was in New York and then in LA I got I actually did get called in and I heard the like preliminary.
[1:56] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You know, like they tell they tell everybody what this case was about and then they asked us questions You know, but then when they started to do jury selection.
[2:07] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I was like The second or third person that was dismissed The prosecution was like we do not want this guy here.
[2:16] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I mean, I I like I've had friends get on like
[2:20] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Monique, Monique got on like a two week, two, three week case.
[2:26] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Like this is much pressure, man.
[2:27] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And there is no cases that go off our months.
[2:30] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I can't handle.
[2:33] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah.
[2:33] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Somebody's got to do it.
[2:34] \[SPEAKER_05\]: The first time I had to actually report down to a place, I was in New York for like three days before Adam loans everything was supposed to start.
[2:46] \[SPEAKER_05\]: So like I went I went through everything and I and they kept getting closer and closer and then they were like Is there anyone who can't do it?
[2:55] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And I was like Had to go like out into the hall and tell them like hey like my job starts next week or something They're like okay, all right Get out and get out of here see They told us though they were like they're like hey if you use an excuse just know that you're gonna be getting a jury summons like
[3:13] \[SPEAKER_02\]: three months from now like it's not an excuse you like we're going to get you yeah we're going to get you again and and you waiting this whole day to again and they're like are you waiting this whole time will count for nothing and everybody was like all right I'll gamble I'll risk it
[3:32] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I'll risk it like me I was I was one of those people.
[3:35] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I was like, you know what, dismiss my thing.
[3:37] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It's okay.
[3:37] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And then I was like that didn't call me.
[3:39] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I was like, yes, I've luckily moved every single time like I've, you know, I've moved like in New York and when I finally gotten it is for the wrong like district and I'm like up.
[3:52] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Can't do it.
[3:54] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Can't do it or like there was a couple of times when I moved the LA and I got them for New York and I'm like Not in the same country.
[4:01] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I mean on the same state and I got it got one like like James got I had to call in every single day and I didn't get this miss until Friday Wow, I think of course.
[4:13] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I'm not going to use this fuck yeah, but you didn't have to go into the courthouse
[4:17] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Oh, yes, sir, sir.
[4:19] \[SPEAKER_03\]: The call was okay.
[4:21] \[SPEAKER_03\]: The call was not convenient, you know what I mean?
[4:25] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah, it's online, I can do what I told me had to call.
[4:32] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Yeah, I mean, last time I had to go in person, they were playing Avengers in game.
[4:38] \[SPEAKER_05\]: What do you think about somebody had the DVD?
[4:40] \[SPEAKER_05\]: And I was like, this feels like maybe you shouldn't be playing.
[4:42] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Oh, they put their own DVD player like portable.
[4:44] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Yeah, it was just some DVD.
[4:46] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Well, it was, no, I mean, it was, it was the courthouses.
[4:49] \[SPEAKER_02\]: TV in the courthouse playing Wow, that was the last one.
[5:04] \[SPEAKER_02\]: That was it.
[5:06] \[SPEAKER_01\]: That did
[5:18] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Wait, you can't, I thought you was called the funeral.
[5:20] \[SPEAKER_05\]: What is this called?
[5:21] \[SPEAKER_05\]: It's called the burial, but you, yeah, yeah.
[5:26] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Oh, we got to set up the burial for the end of just this in America.
[5:32] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Shouldn't this be called like, right?
[5:35] \[SPEAKER_00\]: What's sad is that I've done this already.
[5:37] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I mean, I already see exactly what you did.
[5:41] \[SPEAKER_02\]: No, it's a different thing.
[5:42] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I did a different thing.
[5:44] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Oh, that's right, but you did do a burial transition.
[5:46] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah.
[5:47] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I mean, what's that look like we didn't do that episode?
[5:49] \[SPEAKER_03\]: So now it counts.
[5:50] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And now we're doing it.
[5:51] \[SPEAKER_02\]: All right.
[5:51] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So let's start the show.

[6:19] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It's a case Willie Great can win.
[6:21] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Yeah.
[6:22] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Yes, the only line I could remember, I don't remember this one.
[6:25] \[SPEAKER_05\]: So, we're going to watch this a week ago.
[6:27] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yes, you did.
[6:29] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You remember so much of it.
[6:31] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Welcome to our podcast.
[6:33] \[SPEAKER_02\]: This is Black My Can't Jump in Hollywood.
[6:35] \[SPEAKER_02\]: We're a film review podcast.
[6:37] \[SPEAKER_02\]: We review the films of leading black actors.
[6:41] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And we discuss them through the context of race and diversity in Hollywood.
[6:46] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And there are three of us that do this podcast, the one you're listening to right now that unequivably would have been the best lawyer of the three of us is Jonathan Braylock.
[7:06] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Oh my god, I'm a quick vehicle.
[7:07] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You know why he's a snitch?
[7:08] \[SPEAKER_03\]: That's why he even the best snitch Has nothing to do with it has nothing to do with it has nothing to do with it has nothing to do with it has nothing to do with it has nothing to do with it has nothing to do with it has nothing to do with it has nothing to do with it has nothing to do with it has nothing to do with it has nothing to do with it has nothing to do with it has nothing to do with it has nothing to do with it has nothing to do with it has nothing to do with it has nothing to do with it has nothing to do with it has nothing to do with it has nothing to do with it has nothing to do with it has nothing to do with it has nothing to do with it has nothing to do with it has nothing to do with it has nothing to do with it has nothing to do with it has nothing to do with it has nothing to do with it has nothing to do with it has nothing to do with it has
[7:27] \[SPEAKER_03\]: This guy actually studied pre-law and I did and I was an intern at the United States government affairs court and I was given my diploma by the judge which also very weird that he did that.
[7:47] \[SPEAKER_03\]: This guy who have what he'd be in a lawyer because for what?
[7:52] \[SPEAKER_03\]: For what?
[7:54] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I mean, for anything.
[7:55] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Did you see that man's in the first scene?
[7:58] \[SPEAKER_04\]: What did you see his watch in the first scene?
[8:01] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Did you see his jet?
[8:03] \[SPEAKER_03\]: This is my thing.
[8:04] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I always struggle with law like the stuff I cared about the people I cared about There was no money in that because you're defending like the little guy and I like the veteran affairs court was like you technically were like
[8:17] \[SPEAKER_03\]: trying to make sure like veterans actually got the respect and like what they need it so wasn't about money.
[8:22] \[SPEAKER_03\]: But then you still had to do the same amount of school for people who only cared about corporations and like making a lot of money and I was like this is a tough is tough, bro.
[8:32] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And those classes, uh, anyway, who knew?
[8:36] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Uh, this guy is drumming again.
[8:38] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Jura, I feel like you have probably said what you just said before, but every now and again, you'll say something about your past, on the podcast that reveals like, I side of you, I mean, I mean, that I feel like it was deeply hidden and like,
[8:55] \[SPEAKER_03\]: That's not what it is at all.
[9:07] \[SPEAKER_05\]: This voice is James at third.
[9:09] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Wow.
[9:09] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It took us a really long time to introduce ourselves.
[9:12] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And that's what we do here on this podcast is we take a long time to do everything.
[9:18] \[SPEAKER_02\]: uh no uh guys we're reviewing the film the burial uh this is an Amazon Prime film it stars Jamie Foxe and Tommy Lee Jones uh it also stars journey small
[9:35] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Somalie.
[9:36] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Somalie, who I recently have declared my official celebrity crush.
[9:41] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Dernie.
[9:42] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Also, Mama-do, Athee is in here and Alan Rock, freaking out from succession.
[9:47] \[SPEAKER_02\]: There's just people might know him.
[9:49] \[SPEAKER_05\]: The thing about Mama-do, Big fan, freaking out.
[9:52] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I know we keep talking about him, I know he's been close to getting parts.
[9:57] \[SPEAKER_04\]: No, not any more James, not close.
[9:59] \[SPEAKER_05\]: And I mean, he's done it.
[10:02] \[SPEAKER_03\]: He's done it.
[10:03] \[SPEAKER_05\]: He's done it.
[10:05] \[SPEAKER_03\]: He's got it.
[10:06] \[SPEAKER_05\]: He's also in a Jurassic Park and pretty in consequential in the movie.
[10:11] \[SPEAKER_05\]: He's playing a role that anyone could have played, but it went to him for some reason.
[10:15] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So in consequential enough.
[10:17] \[SPEAKER_05\]: So it is frustrating, you know, I feel like we all have our gripes.
[10:20] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I mean, yours are certainly more than mine, but he's in a dressing park, so I can be bad at him.
[10:25] \[SPEAKER_05\]: But I like him, I like him.
[10:27] \[SPEAKER_05\]: This is my, I'm a designer.
[10:28] \[SPEAKER_03\]: When I was in New York and every time I saw him, he was all, I think that was the issue.
[10:33] \[SPEAKER_03\]: He was always lovely and at a certain point, I mean, Jimmy, Jimmy at a certain point, if I ever walked in and it was just us too, I'd be like, laugh, fuck.
[10:44] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I really, it just, it, it happened the number one.
[10:48] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I was like, God damn it.
[10:51] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It happened one time after our, remember we would to like, uh, that's a new jam fail.
[10:55] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Oh, you're too much in favor, right?
[10:56] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah, bro.
[10:57] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I fell asleep in the damn way in room, winter time.
[11:01] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Cause we had, no, because I don't even remember we had JFL and I got this audition, they couldn't move.
[11:05] \[SPEAKER_03\]: So I had to drive back, but my dumbass dropped James off.
[11:08] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I dropped off like one of the people from the past podcast and that work.
[11:12] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And then I dropped the car off.
[11:14] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah, and I dropped the car off.
[11:16] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I get to the audition.
[11:17] \[SPEAKER_03\]: The audition is an hour and a half behind, and I'm fucking fall asleep.
[11:22] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Just in the waiting room in the way the room just zorks and did they wake you up.
[11:27] \[SPEAKER_03\]: They dare But they woke me up to go in the room They were like, Jura bro you're on was it was a man With a time what a time and Jason right man was in that room see that that that easily could have ended in a like and then I booked it But but it I'm I didn't
[11:45] \[SPEAKER_03\]: you know, no, it did not, it did not break, it's not going on.
[11:50] \[SPEAKER_05\]: But going on, but thinking about how Mama do even acts like there's no way like he was less sleepy than you.
[12:00] \[SPEAKER_02\]: That's okay.
[12:01] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I was gonna say your temperaments are pretty different.
[12:05] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Yeah, they're very different, but then if you go in tired, after he went in, you know, just his very kind of chill stately vibrations, you probably gave him a run for his money.
[12:17] \[SPEAKER_05\]: You don't even realize that you think you're like, oh man, I was asleep.
[12:20] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It was like, no, I was so tired.
[12:22] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It was one of the only two times I went up on my lines in person.
[12:25] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And I just couldn't that.
[12:26] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It was like,
[12:27] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I mean, I want to, like, twice, you know what I mean?
[12:30] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I'm going to go waste going up in my lines.
[12:32] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I never really did it like that.
[12:33] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I've done it twice, I've done it twice in both times for it.
[12:36] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Oh, I know we're not talking about this, but my, my, you know, addition story that haunts me is running out of air in the, in the middle of an hour, you should be here and I, and I just, because it's so important, because such an important, having your breath control for those things is so important.
[12:55] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Now, I feel like I used to be better at that.
[12:57] \[SPEAKER_05\]: And, and I was in that audition, it makes me say, I think I genuinely have night, I wake up and cold sweats, like,
[13:05] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I'm still catching my breath from the, from the audition.
[13:08] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You remember getting auditioned that happened and you're reliving it in your brain?
[13:11] \[SPEAKER_02\]: That, that actually happened when I'm reliving it.
[13:13] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Wow.
[13:15] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah.
[13:15] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Okay.
[13:15] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Well, they said you got a breath.
[13:17] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I know we really don't, I don't know why actually, but we seem to never want to talk about the burial.
[13:27] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But let's actually talk about the, let's talk about the movie because this movie, guess what?
[13:35] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Oh wait, did we already did this?
[13:36] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I said you guys will never tell you this up there, right?
[13:39] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It's 92%.
[13:39] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It's 92%.
[13:39] \[SPEAKER_02\]: 83%.
[13:41] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I'm not sure.
[13:43] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Journey, just in case you were curious, literally last week, Journey randomly post it, the trailer for this movie.
[13:50] \[SPEAKER_03\]: She did?
[13:51] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Last month.
[13:52] \[SPEAKER_03\]: March 12th.
[13:53] \[UNKNOWN\]: Yeah.
[13:54] \[SPEAKER_02\]: That is random though maybe yeah, that is pretty random actually 32 million dollar budget and of course it was released on Amazon so there is no box office
[14:08] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Uh, let's do initial thoughts.
[14:10] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Space on a true story.
[14:12] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Does that mean his guy was like this?
[14:14] \[SPEAKER_02\]: A lawyer that helps a funeral home, owner, save his family business from a corporate behemoth exposing a complex web of race power and justice.
[14:22] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, the guy was like, he definitely was like this.
[14:24] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I mean, he's a, he was a personal injury lawyer.
[14:26] \[SPEAKER_02\]: They're all like that.
[14:28] \[SPEAKER_02\]: All right, initial thoughts.
[14:30] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Should I go?
[14:31] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It sounds like you guys are you both are in real history.
[14:35] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah.
[14:36] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Oh, look, I thought it's break.
[14:37] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Oh, hey, break.
[14:39] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Sure head.
[14:40] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And you know, listen, I thought this film was so good down, brother.
[14:46] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I thought the real-life story is really
[14:56] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It's just like a weird case and a weird pairing and yet like it makes sense and the idea that you know people are like well the jury's going to be mostly black so you got to get this black lawyer, you know and then the people who are being sued that company is also like okay I guess we'll get our own black lawyer.
[15:19] \[SPEAKER_02\]: whole team you know and it just was just like.
[15:25] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I know that this stuff happens but to like see it play out in a film just reminds me of how kind of silly our justice system is.
[15:34] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And at the same time, I'm not saying that like, there are obvious like better just the systems out there.
[15:43] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Like, there is something about a jury of your peers that makes sense, but like when it's not actually like,
[15:50] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It just feels like the ideals of what we want at the law to be and how we want it to just assist them to work, like how it actually works, feels so far apart from each other, especially now it is like nowadays.
[16:03] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It just is like, you know, law is mostly about the atrics and convincing people of a story is just really funny.
[16:11] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I'll never get over it.
[16:12] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Anyway, that being said, I thought Jamie Fox was great, thought Tommy Lee Jones was serviceable.
[16:21] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You know, journey and mom do work, work, work good.
[16:24] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And the story was interesting.
[16:27] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And I mean, it was like the tone is a little, it's like a comedy more so than a legal drama.
[16:33] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Like it feels more like they're playing up the comedic moments of everything.
[16:37] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Which kind of works?
[16:39] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I could tell that they were, I was like, I feel like some of this must be.
[16:45] \[SPEAKER_02\]: you know, overdramatized screen, like I can't imagine it went this way.
[16:52] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But anyway, yeah, it's a solid film worthy of watching if you are into courtroom dramas, you know.
[17:07] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I'll go.
[17:08] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I am.
[17:11] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It wasn't that I didn't, it wasn't that dislike this movie when it first started.
[17:14] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It felt so paint by numbers that I wasn't enjoying it.
[17:18] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I mean, I also struggle with these kind of like bio, these like, what do you call these kind of movies?
[17:25] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Like, um, these period pieces like the happy ones that do it like race and all that stuff.
[17:30] \[SPEAKER_03\]: They always like look bright and like colorful.
[17:33] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I really struggle with that look.
[17:35] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Could they have a name?
[17:40] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Like this isn't a biopic, but it kind of like, you know like, um, yeah, whatever historic historical dramas or whatever drama, but this one doesn't even feel hot brow, it feels like
[17:52] \[SPEAKER_03\]: cute.
[17:52] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You know what I mean?
[17:54] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Yeah, I'm not sure sure.
[17:55] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And so it wasn't that about it in David.
[17:57] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I will say, I felt very emotional when they finally won.
[18:00] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And I was like, that's good.
[18:01] \[SPEAKER_03\]: But also think because Tommy Lee Jones reminds me of like, even though he's white like, my granddad, those like hard working dudes who are just trying to...
[18:11] \[SPEAKER_03\]: We're just trying to do right by everybody and trying to, it's, it's, you know.
[18:16] \[SPEAKER_03\]: But yeah, I mean, I can't, I will tell you this.
[18:19] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I would watch this movie with my parents, but I don't know about what ever watched this movie again though.
[18:25] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Just, that's how I feel.
[18:27] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It's like, my parents wanted to watch it.
[18:28] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yep.
[18:29] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It came down to me.
[18:30] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Not even.
[18:31] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Not even.
[18:35] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Yeah, I, I, I, I didn't know that this was based on a true story, even, maybe it even doesn't start with based on true events.
[18:43] \[SPEAKER_05\]: But anyway, thanks so most of it.
[18:45] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Okay, well, I missed that card because it's with it.
[18:48] \[SPEAKER_05\]: But yeah, yeah, I was watching the movie and I was like,
[18:52] \[SPEAKER_05\]: It's like, why is this tone so strange?
[18:55] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Like, why are they grounding this character that's clearly a cartoon?
[19:00] \[SPEAKER_05\]: You know, like, I was like, so good.
[19:03] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I was so confused by that.
[19:04] \[SPEAKER_05\]: And then at the end, when you like see the pictures and everything, I was like, oh, you know, like there was like a point later where they were like 1993, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
[19:13] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I was like, oh, okay, this must be real.
[19:15] \[SPEAKER_05\]: This must be,
[19:16] \[SPEAKER_05\]: That's been based on something real, that's why it's been that's why they've like, you know, they're playing up the humor, but they aren't why they're trying to be so grounded.
[19:25] \[SPEAKER_05\]: But that was confusing to me for I think entirely too long in the in the move like that it just felt weird.
[19:40] \[SPEAKER_05\]: everything just sort of felt like reaching for stuff, like it felt like reaching for race stuff, like forcing race into it.
[19:47] \[SPEAKER_05\]: And then it just... And because it was a... Because that's essentially what happened.
[19:55] \[SPEAKER_05\]: With the trial, that's why it feels that way, but I think not knowing that it's based on a true story.
[20:01] \[SPEAKER_05\]: First of the way, that bad.
[20:03] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Yeah.
[20:04] \[SPEAKER_05\]: It just didn't know, I didn't know, I didn't know until it.
[20:08] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I thought it was just some movie, you know what I mean?
[20:11] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I thought it was just, oh, you don't know what it was like.
[20:13] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Well, why would it, why would it, why would it set in the past, why would you?
[20:16] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Yeah, exactly.
[20:16] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Well, except, that's what I'm saying.
[20:17] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Like, I don't even think I would leave.
[20:19] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You're like, why don't they randomly set this in the night?
[20:22] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I think I realized that it was even 91 until, until.
[20:26] \[SPEAKER_05\]: There's like a point at the, like, when they read the verdict or something, I think they have the year.
[20:30] \[SPEAKER_05\]: And they probably have had, had the year so now.
[20:33] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Oh, God.
[20:34] \[SPEAKER_05\]: They referenced OJ.
[20:35] \[SPEAKER_05\]: They referenced Johnny Carter.
[20:38] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Yeah, but they just, but sure, but you referenced, okay, you guys, okay, I didn't just let me see, but it was like going on, I guess, or had just happened.
[20:48] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah, I think they were watching it or something, right?
[20:51] \[UNKNOWN\]: Or.
[20:52] \[SPEAKER_05\]: And then again, all of that makes way more sense when you know, but I just thought that it was just like, you know, the referencing those things, the way you might reference them to anyway, to anyway, so that colored a lot of like my experience watching watching the movie, but I once all of that stuff started to come together with for me towards the end, it was like, okay, all right.
[21:17] \[SPEAKER_05\]: You know, I, all of this makes, makes more sense now.
[21:20] \[SPEAKER_05\]: And I think a black woman directed this, which is cool.
[21:24] \[SPEAKER_05\]: So that's good.
[21:25] \[SPEAKER_05\]: You know, yeah, you know, black, you know, I'm just going to say right now, black fist.
[21:30] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Hey, oh, you need to.
[21:31] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Wait, wait, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I
[21:46] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Why would that be a sabotaging He's just trying to end the podcast already.
[21:52] \[SPEAKER_02\]: All right.
[21:53] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I'm just I'm just in advance letting y'all know how where I What's side of history.
[22:00] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I'm on with this particular podcast episode in this film.
[22:05] \[SPEAKER_05\]: You know, so let's get into it.
[22:07] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Let's start, let's, let's, let's, let's, let's hold my good.
[22:13] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I'm not gonna lie to you.
[22:14] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I was making fun of you for not remembering this movie.
[22:18] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Anyway, you just said, yeah, how does movie start?
[22:22] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I do not remember like I'll tell you this is starts with him preaching a sermon And I thought this man was a preacher and then I was like and then they cut to him being a lawyer And I was like well, hold on wait Jamie Foxx is preaching.
[22:37] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Yes, he's like give me he's either It's pretty shing in the beginning.
[22:40] \[SPEAKER_02\]: He's I don't know.
[22:42] \[SPEAKER_02\]: He's preaching.
[22:43] \[SPEAKER_02\]: He's preaching.
[22:43] \[SPEAKER_02\]: He's clearly added church preaching
[22:46] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And it's very strange.
[22:48] \[SPEAKER_05\]: They pan to his arm when he and we see his watch as he says, you know, we in the black church, and I genuinely thought we were starting a completely different where the movie goes is not where I thought it was going from from from from that I was like, oh, cool.
[23:01] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Yeah, the burial bubble, blah, blah, maybe somebody in his life dies and he's he's going to stop showboding or whatever.
[23:06] \[SPEAKER_05\]: You know, like, I had no, he's going to stop showboding.
[23:11] \[SPEAKER_03\]: No, I see a lot of public.
[23:16] \[SPEAKER_03\]: But I went to a church recently, not recently.
[23:20] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I guess it was the beginning of the year.
[23:22] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I want some friends to a church and we look outside of the church.
[23:25] \[SPEAKER_03\]: There's like, like two of the nicest like binge trucks sitting up like outside the door, just outside the door and I was like, I remember making a
[23:34] \[SPEAKER_03\]: and a joke of like, man, who's that?
[23:36] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Like, chrome wheels and like, someone goes, oh, that's the, I think the pastor walked up and was like, hey, I don't, oh, that's me.
[23:42] \[SPEAKER_03\]: That's me, that's me.
[23:44] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And then maybe like two weeks later, cause I was like, you know what I can go back or you two weeks, you know what I was saying?
[23:48] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I admit to that my friend goes, hey, just so you know, that pastor is like, either he being sued or something came up where I like, he's taken money from the church and I was like, oh, no.
[24:01] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It's like the most obvious thing.
[24:03] \[SPEAKER_05\]: He held a cop dirty into the next week.
[24:05] \[SPEAKER_05\]: He held a cop dirty into the... That reminds me of Crephalo Dollar.
[24:09] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Y'all heard a Crephalo Dollar?
[24:10] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I'm in the Crephalo.
[24:11] \[SPEAKER_03\]: He's still up there.
[24:12] \[SPEAKER_03\]: He's still up here, Hustling.
[24:13] \[SPEAKER_03\]: No, Crephalo Dollar, that'd be in jail.
[24:14] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I'd have to look at my side.
[24:15] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I'm sorry.
[24:16] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I'm sorry.
[24:17] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I'm sorry.
[24:18] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I'm sorry.
[24:18] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I'm sorry.
[24:19] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I'm sorry.
[24:21] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Your name cannot be Crephalo Dollar.
[24:24] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Do you understand what I'm saying?
[24:26] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Crephalo Dollar.
[24:28] \[SPEAKER_03\]: crefload dollar.
[24:29] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Oh no crefload dollar is still good.
[24:31] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah, of course.
[24:32] \[SPEAKER_03\]: He's still out here.
[24:32] \[SPEAKER_05\]: People still love crefload dollar with a been in jail crefload dollars still making a rain on crefload no offense Wow, no fits the crefload in his teachings
[24:42] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You know what he gathered at a sushi was a polo shirt now.
[24:45] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Okay, Crafall, I'll see you, I'll see you, I'll see you.
[24:48] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah.
[24:49] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Sorry, the beginning of the movie.
[24:51] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Okay, so yeah, so the beginning of the movie, he is preaching and I thought he was a preacher.
[24:54] \[SPEAKER_05\]: And then the next scene, the next scene, I think, he is him winning the case.
[25:03] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Or maybe even there might have even been,
[25:07] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Maybe immediately after that, we see the clip package, the TV clip package.
[25:12] \[SPEAKER_05\]: That's like, this man has a jet.
[25:14] \[SPEAKER_05\]: He has a this and then they probably said he was a lawyer there.
[25:17] \[SPEAKER_05\]: But I was like, yep, they're talking about the super church guys.
[25:22] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Yeah, I'm still thinking it's super church guy.
[25:24] \[SPEAKER_05\]: And then we cut to him, we cut to him, getting like closing arguments or something.
[25:29] \[SPEAKER_05\]: And I was like, okay, I don't know.
[25:30] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I don't know what's going on.
[25:32] \[SPEAKER_05\]: reviews.
[25:33] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Sure.
[25:34] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It is confusing that he, I think the movie was trying to show that he borrowed from, yes, the culture of black churches, and he put that into that kind of stuff.
[25:47] \[SPEAKER_02\]: No, they're going
[25:48] \[SPEAKER_02\]: into his, you know, yeah, but but it was confusing because I was like, is he a pack like I at first I thought I thought he was a pastor just like a rich pastor and that a lawyer then I was like, was he just a guest speaker anyway, but when he that scene in the beginning, I mean Jamie Foxx is so perfect for this role, like he's so good at doing what this guy.
[26:10] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, you know, he was a lot.
[26:13] \[SPEAKER_02\]: He was doing a lot, which was great.
[26:15] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And like him being like, like my client is not a good man.
[26:20] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Like, you know, he was drunk.
[26:23] \[SPEAKER_02\]: He was drunk.
[26:24] \[SPEAKER_02\]: He was drunk.
[26:26] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You know?
[26:27] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I do love that part.
[26:28] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And he did that.
[26:29] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And he's like, he's not good.
[26:30] \[SPEAKER_02\]: He's not, he's no good.
[26:31] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Good for none.
[26:32] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But the one thing my client did have.
[26:35] \[SPEAKER_02\]: He had a green line.
[26:37] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah.
[26:38] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah.
[26:39] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I, I didn't write my.
[26:43] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Must have that used to watch court TV or the court channel.
[26:48] \[SPEAKER_03\]: What is it?
[26:48] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Court TV?
[26:49] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Court TV, yeah.
[26:50] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Court TV.
[26:51] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And like you, sometimes you would see one of those like fast talking lawyers, says something up and just do a freaking twist.
[26:57] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And I'm like, wait, you know what?
[27:00] \[SPEAKER_03\]: He got it because he ain't wrong.
[27:02] \[SPEAKER_03\]: He's not on trial for being drunk.
[27:04] \[SPEAKER_03\]: He's on trial for cause and accident.
[27:06] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And maybe it's a tomato tomato two plus two equals 75.
[27:10] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You know what I'm saying?
[27:11] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But yeah, I mean, this is such a f- it was like, we meet Tommy Lee Jones and he's like, you know, celebrating his 75th birthday and he's like, got all these grandkids and they're and he's like, oh, like, I'm living a good life.
[27:34] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But then all of a sudden, like, somebody's like, you know, his lawyer's like, hey man, you ain't got no money.
[27:42] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You got to sell some of these shots.
[27:44] \[SPEAKER_02\]: These funeral homes because you got no money.
[27:47] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I'll set something up for you and they do this deal with this It's called the low low in group with this guy who seems who's like explains the reason you want to get into funeral
[28:01] \[SPEAKER_02\]: homes is because all of the baby boomers are going to die soon.
[28:08] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And so that pisses us going to be booming.
[28:11] \[SPEAKER_05\]: His blood is just about this was really blowing my mind.
[28:15] \[SPEAKER_05\]: He was just like, I want to monopolize death to his face.
[28:19] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Oh my god.
[28:20] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Well, he just thought he was talking to another
[28:25] \[SPEAKER_02\]: No, I like actually like care about like That's when the deal was done right there.
[28:28] \[SPEAKER_03\]: They're like, oh, you care about these people All right, we can't like that's weird stall them out stall them out.
[28:34] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Oh, oh, so you're a bad business man.
[28:36] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah.
[28:36] \[SPEAKER_02\]: No, that's not that that's not how that's not how we do business in the world That's not what gets rewarded in this world Not this one either and he's like, I don't know.
[28:47] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I've like think about somebody like Donald Trump He'll probably be preceded one day
[28:52] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Don't vote him in twice.
[28:54] \[SPEAKER_02\]: All of these lines are in the movie.
[28:56] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Come on man, come on man.
[28:59] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Apparently in the real thing, they actually, he actually sued these people earlier and they settled, but then he felt like they breached the settlement and so he sued them again.
[29:13] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Oh, oh.
[29:15] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, which I understand why they didn't put that, that's a little too confusing.
[29:20] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And the other thing is that the low-end group, their team were all black men.
[29:26] \[SPEAKER_02\]: They did not have.
[29:27] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Journey Smela's character was fictional.
[29:31] \[SPEAKER_02\]: There was no black woman.
[29:32] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You know what, put her in everything.
[29:34] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You know what, I think, you know what, I think, you know what, I'm pretty sure.
[29:37] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But I thought she was a great, I thought she was a great foil to Jamie Fox in the film.
[29:42] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Took too long to show up if you ask me.
[29:44] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I would read five minutes, 45 minutes.
[29:47] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I was something like that.
[29:49] \[SPEAKER_05\]: too long, I agree.
[29:51] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Bring her in up to that to top.
[29:53] \[SPEAKER_03\]: If anything, if anything, we should have focused on what she had to do to get there.
[29:58] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I need to see Jamie and him suits.
[30:00] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I need to see her being the face of like, them trying to have her be the sell out against her own people and her be a little bit cool to see, because we got to see, I know the story is about this man, but we got to see real bad.
[30:16] \[SPEAKER_05\]: But we got this picture a while now.
[30:18] \[SPEAKER_05\]: This is a victim of who didn't exist.
[30:20] \[SPEAKER_05\]: But we got it.
[30:21] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Got it.
[30:21] \[SPEAKER_05\]: You get jerseys doing some doing some doing some doing some lyron.
[30:26] \[SPEAKER_05\]: We could have seen her doing some lyron.
[30:29] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Well, I mean, we saw her do some lyron in the courtroom.
[30:32] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I'm talking about the phone.
[30:34] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Brady, that's the first time I was at the event.
[30:36] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And I saw Jenny Smellette from across the room.
[30:40] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And I was like, you know what?
[30:42] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I'm going to say hello.
[30:45] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It was like a movie where it just across the room, across the room, the amount of people that were in between me and getting across the room.
[30:54] \[SPEAKER_03\]: By time I got to that side of the room, she was gone.
[30:58] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It was like, yeah, she disappeared on you.
[31:00] \[SPEAKER_05\]: It was like, it was like, it was like,
[31:02] \[SPEAKER_05\]: The or a layer was emanating and it was bring it was pulling it up.
[31:08] \[SPEAKER_05\]: What the fuck?
[31:10] \[SPEAKER_05\]: You out of the way.
[31:11] \[SPEAKER_03\]: We're only winners come from.
[31:14] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Everybody want to talk about that with us.
[31:21] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Ah, they didn't play music.
[31:24] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I don't know why.
[31:26] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Woo, how many moves barbacks do you all need in here?
[31:30] \[SPEAKER_03\]: God, I just had to say that before.
[31:32] \[SPEAKER_05\]: And I was like, ah, damn, they're good for you for making the be lined up.
[31:38] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I try.
[31:39] \[SPEAKER_03\]: This is my thing.
[31:40] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I feel like nowadays I at least want to say hello to a person.
[31:44] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Like it doesn't need to be like,
[31:46] \[SPEAKER_03\]: you know, on like, you know, I'm in love with you, whatever.
[31:49] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It's just like, I, you know what I'm saying?
[31:52] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I want to say hello, because you do not know them.
[31:57] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Hey, Jordan, I'm in love with you.
[32:00] \[SPEAKER_03\]: There was a guy to just see, it was a guy who proposed the Kiki Palmer at Soppa Southwest.
[32:06] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I mean that's embarrassing.
[32:09] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Her response was, sir, I don't know.
[32:12] \[SPEAKER_02\]: All right.
[32:12] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Do you not know you?
[32:15] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Oh, please put that ring away.
[32:17] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Anyway, I, it was very, but like, I love this.
[32:22] \[SPEAKER_02\]: A initial scene with Tommy Lee Joe's, what he comes in.
[32:24] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And there's like,
[32:26] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Uh, so what's the case?
[32:27] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And he's like, it's, uh, contract law and he goes contract law.
[32:31] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I don't do that.
[32:32] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I don't personally do that.
[32:33] \[SPEAKER_02\]: That's why I told him.
[32:34] \[SPEAKER_02\]: All right.
[32:34] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Let's go.
[32:34] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And my mom just like, well, like, wait, wait, wait.
[32:38] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And then they're like, tell him the case and Jamie Fox doesn't want to take it.
[32:42] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But mom and do does this.
[32:44] \[SPEAKER_02\]: They leave, but then mom and do comes back and he does this whole speech about how, you know, hey, this could like really put you on the map and he's like, bro, I got a private jet and he was like, I know, but like,
[32:56] \[SPEAKER_02\]: you could be respected, you could be Johnny, the next Johnny Conqueror, you know, that's how you get him.
[33:01] \[SPEAKER_02\]: That's how you get him, that's how you get him, that's how you get everybody.
[33:05] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I'm wondering, this whole thing about the other black, like how it became a case about how the low hand group was like doing racist stuff.
[33:17] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Like I wonder if they when they found that out because it feels like that would be the thing that brought That's what I think the lawyer in initially not that he's not that that was something they discovered later on, you know?
[33:29] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Cause it is something to I agree with you because his whole thing of hey, most of my clients are black.
[33:35] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I don't have white clients you would have needed some type of ace to like get them there.
[33:39] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You know what I mean?
[33:40] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Like, hmmm.
[33:42] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yes, interesting.
[33:44] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Also, I'm not gonna lie.
[33:47] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I struggled with, maybe this is an eternal black thing.
[33:52] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I struggled with the presentation of Jimmy Foscarida because he was so cocky, because he was talking so much, because he like something about it felt like at a certain point it was that volged of humanity at one point, I guess until later in the movie, then we realized, oh, he was a, you know, a caring dude, but I'm like, this dude just feels like
[34:15] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Well, I don't know if he specifically felt that way to me, but to your point, it felt like a menstrual show.
[34:22] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Oh, maybe I can tell like something.
[34:24] \[SPEAKER_05\]: And because of everyone's the reason the black people are there,
[34:32] \[SPEAKER_05\]: is because the white people are like, we need some black people to dance for us.
[34:38] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I mean, it was like, yes, they're getting paid and like, yes, they're job, but it was, it is literally like, well, we better get these menstruals.
[34:47] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Yeah, yeah, that's what the black is.
[34:48] \[SPEAKER_05\]: And, and that's how the movie starts.
[34:52] \[SPEAKER_05\]: And then that to me hovered over the, the whole,
[34:54] \[SPEAKER_05\]: thing.
[34:55] \[SPEAKER_05\]: And I mean good for this man because he where he goes after this is it's I mean this really potentially was the the thing that's that skyrocketed him to to all these other bigger um right uh jobs too but like it uh I it was hard for me to shake that right it was really bothered me I agree in the sense that it made me not it took a lot it took a long time for me to care about them winning this case
[35:24] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, initially, I was kind of like, you know, there was a part of me that was like, I understand like this is like the little, the quote unquote little guy versus like the big corporation, but I was just like, I was looking at timely Jones character and I was like, oh, no, I mean, the student is,
[35:43] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Like they said the stuff about like how he when he was a mayor, he like ran out the KKK and so I was like, okay, both like was that real, was that real?
[35:54] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Cause they was a part of me that I was like, the job, the job, do the hidden figures thing where like we couldn't have, like you know what I mean?
[36:02] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Like we had to rewrite him so he's like a sweet, old white man, but all of a sudden, most of his friends are good old boys and he doesn't know they're all good old boys.
[36:09] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Like that.
[36:10] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Roya is one of his best friends and that dude is a literal good old boy didn't it but didn't it also that story though also sort of seemed like there were sides to it that
[36:24] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You know, there were sides to it that like just weren't being expressed like they were like, yeah, we can frame it like this, but maybe it's here, you know, that's the only good thing we can say or what Like without knowing any of what the real story is or whatever, like what I will say is The type of character he was playing felt like somebody who's like a rule of rule follower.
[36:45] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And the KKK does exist outside of the rules.
[36:50] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So just because you're against the KKK doesn't mean you're not racist.
[36:53] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It just means you're like, no, I don't agree with.
[36:57] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You know, I mean, I don't know if they, I don't know if they, if he would have considered the cake a cake a terrace group, he maybe would have considered them vigilantes.
[37:07] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You know what I mean?
[37:07] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah.
[37:08] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I don't agree with that kind of just this like we, we have a society of rules, you know, but he's also a person if there's a racist law in existence, he'd be like, it's the law.
[37:18] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It's the law.
[37:19] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah.
[37:20] \[SPEAKER_05\]: How do you, do you ever remember how journey turned that against him?
[37:26] \[SPEAKER_05\]: that he ran out the cake.
[37:28] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Okay, but then journey spun it on him.
[37:32] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Well, it was about his lawyer and his, all right, forgot, just like, they made it because I thought that was separate.
[37:40] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I thought it was like, they got your right.
[37:41] \[SPEAKER_05\]: That was separate because then, yeah, but I can't remember what it was.
[37:44] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It was, but yeah, yeah, right, because he said he wasn't prepared.
[37:53] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I forgot they were saying something about somehow he wasn't like a good like I mean they were choose definitely talking about his debt right yes and how he just wasn't a good business man I feel like that was a big part of it it was
[38:15] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Oh, yes, I got it.
[38:18] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I got it.
[38:19] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It was that he had business deal with with a convicted felon.
[38:23] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And even though the guy was convicted afterwards, he was like, they were like, you did.
[38:29] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Like, the reason you're in this mess is because you, uh, when apart, you know, even though he was really just a victim of the same scam,
[38:44] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Right, not race-related.
[38:45] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It was business-related.
[38:46] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It wasn't really-related.
[38:47] \[SPEAKER_02\]: The race stuff was on the other lawyer.
[38:50] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Mm-hmm.
[38:50] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah.
[38:51] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Who... Also, look, man.
[38:54] \[SPEAKER_02\]: That was a good reveal.
[38:57] \[SPEAKER_02\]: With the other-with-all-right, we're-we're-we're-we're-they're like- He was like, oh, man, he was like, son?
[39:02] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Come here, and then you see this, like, 50-f-eight-year-old black man come over here.
[39:07] \[SPEAKER_02\]: He was like, oh, my god.
[39:10] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Man, that, well, that's the episode tough because I get nervous when I meet, um, when I was in college, I had a, I was like the only black dude on the floor, and, for my roommate, his,
[39:24] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah, grandpa, pop-up, whatever the fuck came to visit in pop-up.
[39:30] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It was something like that.
[39:31] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It was like, something like that.
[39:34] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I knew he was from the south and I knew he was white.
[39:36] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And I was like, I remember being so nervous, his, his, his, uh, uh, pop-up, what are you saying?
[39:45] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Um, you're fine.
[39:47] \[SPEAKER_03\]: He tried to get it right as solid.
[39:49] \[SPEAKER_03\]: He has the nickname right.
[39:51] \[SPEAKER_03\]: He has said, um,
[39:53] \[SPEAKER_03\]: he said two things casually and it was so far and you can tell he meant nothing but he was like somehow he called he said boy he was talking to me and said boy like but but but I didn't knew I even knew and it had you saying it I was like oh he he must be talking about the youth because I thought he said um
[40:13] \[SPEAKER_03\]: He caught like my friend something as well, but it wasn't boy, but I was black.
[40:17] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And then, and then, he almost said, like, colored or something like that.
[40:24] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And I was like, yo, this dude.
[40:27] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Like, he might not have been, how old was he?
[40:32] \[SPEAKER_03\]: At the time he was late 70s.
[40:35] \[SPEAKER_03\]: This was like,
[40:36] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I mean, I, the colored thing I would give people a pass on because they're, you know, people used to We just was the accepted track people.
[40:43] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, I'm a call themselves color.
[40:45] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah, and I'm a CEP.
[40:47] \[SPEAKER_02\]: That's that being said, I remember I,
[40:52] \[SPEAKER_02\]: maybe I've said this already on the, I'm sure I have on the podcast at some point.
[40:56] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But I was a waiter at this like weird Irish restaurant in New York at one point and I worked Thanksgiving, which was awful.
[41:05] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And I, I will never forget like, there was this family there, white, obviously, white, um, and obfios.
[41:14] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And one of the the older white men like not that much older, by the way, he's like maybe a 50s, whatever.
[41:20] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And he was like, oh, my kids love your hair.
[41:25] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And I was like, yo.
[41:27] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I was like, thank you.
[41:29] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And then he was like, is it a, like, is it American Negro?
[41:32] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Oh, no.
[41:33] \[SPEAKER_01\]: And I was like, what?
[41:37] \[SPEAKER_05\]: It's a bit of a marriage.
[41:38] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Also, I say that, and I've never heard anyone else say that.
[41:41] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And that sounds way crazy.
[41:43] \[SPEAKER_05\]: But it just, but it doesn't just in this context, doesn't make sense.
[41:46] \[SPEAKER_05\]: It's like, it's like, it's like, America is a miracle.
[41:50] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And I literally was just like, uh, my dad's black, my mom's white.
[41:55] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And he was like,
[41:57] \[SPEAKER_02\]: He was like, oh, okay.
[41:58] \[SPEAKER_01\]: How old were you?
[41:58] \[SPEAKER_01\]: How old were you?
[42:00] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I was like excited about it.
[42:02] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I don't know, like 23 year, somebody.
[42:05] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Is it American Negro?
[42:06] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Wow.
[42:09] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I was just like, what the heck?
[42:11] \[SPEAKER_05\]: And this person was, was not, it was not I didn't know.
[42:17] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I didn't know, I, I, maybe they were.
[42:21] \[SPEAKER_02\]: some European.
[42:23] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I don't know.
[42:23] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I don't remember them into anything.
[42:25] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I don't remember them having an accent, you know, but they could have, they could have been, you know.
[42:29] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah.
[42:30] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Absolutely.
[42:31] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Absolutely.
[42:31] \[SPEAKER_05\]: It just feels like such a like the even just like for as much as that with throw me to just say, yeah, it was so crazy.
[42:39] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It was amazing.
[42:40] \[SPEAKER_05\]: It was American Negro.
[42:42] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, you're here.
[42:44] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Not my kids like.
[42:46] \[SPEAKER_03\]: They love your hair.
[42:47] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Isn't it American?
[42:48] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Also, the way you say it like that, is it American Negro, makes it sound like you can just buy it?
[42:53] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Like, oh, my kids, my kids have been looking for new hair.
[42:55] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Is that a, is that a, is that like, is this a, is it a feels weird American Negro?
[43:01] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah, when you get that from him, or is that authentic, ethype hair?
[43:07] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah, like what do you do with that?
[43:09] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Wow, American Negro.
[43:11] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I genuinely hate it, it's actually Brazilian Negro.
[43:18] \[SPEAKER_02\]: This is that new news, okay.
[43:20] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It's actually Brazilian Negro, any who.
[43:22] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, this, yeah, I agree.
[43:26] \[SPEAKER_02\]: The, but I think that's the whole thing is that the race stuff is weird in real life.
[43:31] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You know what I mean, the weirdness that we were feeling is the weirdness that was up, that was what was happening.
[43:37] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And yet they stumble upon this bigger thing, you know, that this group really was taking advantage of black people.
[43:46] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You know, and so it became, it almost like, at least in the way that the movie told it, it like became about, it does become a race, a case about race, even though initially it felt like race was just being used as a play as just some tactic to win voter, win the jury members over.
[44:05] \[SPEAKER_02\]: That's what they always trying to get us.
[44:08] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Which I guess ultimately, that is what it was because it's not like the black people who got screwed where they weren't about to get money.
[44:18] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Now I think afterwards, you know, in the end credit, it's we see that they did apparently donate a lot of a large sum to black families that were screwed by this company, which is very nice.
[44:33] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But.
[44:34] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But in reality, it was just like this dude that got rich.
[44:37] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I mean, he won $500 million.
[44:39] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, that's insane.
[44:45] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I thought you'd $1,000,000 bro.
[44:48] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I was like, and he was only trying to get what?
[44:50] \[SPEAKER_03\]: The dude only won it seven, but what did he actually do?
[44:52] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Initially, he only won it.
[44:53] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, initially, he only won it like six point something.
[44:56] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I think.
[44:56] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah.
[44:56] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Eight would have, he would have broke even with eight or something.
[44:59] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Like eight times worse.
[45:04] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And early on, they were like, we're not gonna settle.
[45:06] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Apparently in the real life, the real Willie, what's his name?
[45:12] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Gary.
[45:13] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Really great, really.
[45:14] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Oh, is it Gary?
[45:14] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Gary, Willie, Gary, that's not all that.
[45:17] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Yeah.
[45:17] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Willie, Gary.
[45:18] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Gary.
[45:19] \[SPEAKER_02\]: The real Willie, Gary did offer a settlement.
[45:22] \[SPEAKER_02\]: He offered a settlement of 125 million.
[45:25] \[SPEAKER_02\]: The low hand group turned it down.
[45:28] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And then they went to trial.
[45:29] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And then when they were in trial, they're like,
[45:34] \[SPEAKER_02\]: No, 500 million is crazy.
[45:36] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I actually think that's like I would have liked that beat to be in the movie.
[45:42] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Same.
[45:42] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Because I mean, because it is clear that once they want to do a settlement, it's clear that they're desperate at the end.
[45:48] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Right.
[45:49] \[SPEAKER_05\]: But I think it would highlight how desperate they are even more if they would have initially turned down 125 million and then then come back later like when they're like, we'll give you hug just 25 million.
[46:03] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I mean, when he got the dude who got hit, who said he was like, this dude was drunk, but he had a green light and they were like 75 million.
[46:20] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I was like 75 million.
[46:23] \[SPEAKER_02\]: This dude would never have made 75 million.
[46:25] \[SPEAKER_03\]: This entire life.
[46:26] \[SPEAKER_03\]: How much how much how much money?
[46:29] \[SPEAKER_03\]: How much did Tracy Morgan get?
[46:32] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Didn't he get 100?
[46:34] \[SPEAKER_05\]: And someone passed away from me to say 25, which might have been crazy.
[46:37] \[SPEAKER_05\]: No, I think I got up there.
[46:39] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But Tracy Morgan, you can make a case is like he can make a hundred million.
[46:43] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You know what I mean?
[46:44] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Like you can, I feel like you can make it a bigger argument that like, this is somebody, you know, when you take away years of their, even though, of course, he's making it.
[46:53] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah.
[46:54] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I literally have never thought about it, though, as just that, though, like, like, it's always like the emotional damage, the blah, blah, blah, like, you know, these sort of things.
[47:05] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Yeah, I mean, that is quantify.
[47:07] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Right.
[47:08] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Exactly.
[47:09] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You're my life.
[47:10] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Yeah.
[47:12] \[SPEAKER_05\]: You know, I, you know, I now have a distrust of everyone around me because of the wool you pulled over my eyes or whatever, you know, and like right that I'm getting $250 million.
[47:24] \[SPEAKER_05\]: That's just the $250 million of.
[47:30] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Right, because it starts off as as a number and then they add something for four damages or whatever, like it's something else that's just sort of.
[47:40] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Yeah.
[47:41] \[SPEAKER_02\]: conceptual payment and then you get this for it's such a, it is such a crazy thing that happens and I don't really care that much about corporations losing lots of money especially when they're just clear evil corporations and let's just be honest most corporations now, I mean, like these big conglomerates that are buying that own different kinds of businesses is just like it is kind of just inherently evil, but
[48:11] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It's wild how much money people can care for you know what I mean like I just just like what I know I saw it crazy because it's like I don't want anything bad to say to me say this is like you know I right and and think about most people probably don't get the money Yeah, just get screwed.
[48:33] \[SPEAKER_03\]: All right don't get me that's take it back.
[48:34] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I take it back.
[48:35] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I take it back.
[48:35] \[SPEAKER_05\]: They had to they ended up
[48:38] \[SPEAKER_05\]: getting it down from 500 million, at the end, and I can't remember what that number was, but it still was a significant amount of money, but it's like, 100 million in compensatory damages and 400 million in punitive damage.
[48:57] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Oh, okay, so that's on them.
[48:59] \[SPEAKER_05\]: They're like, and this is for you.
[49:02] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And this is like so that you never do this again.
[49:09] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And then he's like, well, we need to fight this because I want to do it again, and apparently this company went bankrupt, right, right, I remember that that like he did destroy the company.
[49:23] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Filed.
[49:24] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Riled.
[49:26] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Why do you think this movie didn't get any like.
[49:30] \[SPEAKER_02\]: No, I guess big, yeah, nations big nominations or anything.
[49:34] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I don't think anybody really has.
[49:37] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Like from an acting standpoint, I don't think anybody really has like any like big turns anybody, I don't think anybody has something where you're like, that's the Oscar moment or whatever.
[49:51] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Sure.
[49:52] \[SPEAKER_05\]: And I thought it was, I thought it was.
[49:55] \[SPEAKER_05\]: The directing was fine, but like I was so confused.
[49:59] \[SPEAKER_05\]: As somebody who was probably a second screening it, potentially.
[50:03] \[SPEAKER_05\]: But I was confused.
[50:04] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Like I should have known allheartedly, it was 1990, whatever.
[50:09] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, I do think that's fine.
[50:10] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I should have known a little bit.
[50:11] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Good day, I am.
[50:12] \[SPEAKER_05\]: That's on them.
[50:13] \[SPEAKER_05\]: That's on them, right?
[50:15] \[UNKNOWN\]: Yeah.
[50:15] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I feel like you were in fully paying attention, maybe.
[50:18] \[SPEAKER_05\]: But I don't know, but I, okay, so fine, that aside.
[50:20] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Maybe I didn't watch it as closely as I could have.
[50:28] \[SPEAKER_05\]: But yeah, I mean, it just doesn't feel like it had any kind of big sweeping moments.
[50:32] \[SPEAKER_05\]: You know, it doesn't really have like even their closing arguments don't feel don't they like kind of skip around them like they've like kind of feel which is weird.
[50:42] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I was like man you're not even going to show it like this guy's closing argument.
[50:45] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Like isn't this the big thing that he does?
[50:47] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah, you made it big me a lot of it before or two.
[50:50] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Right.
[50:51] \[SPEAKER_05\]: We got to see his clothes just cut it for some holy different thing.
[50:55] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah.
[50:57] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah, it's very strange.
[50:58] \[SPEAKER_03\]: movie was, you know, not funny.
[51:01] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It was directed interestingly, but you know, also wait, wasn't he married?
[51:04] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Why he keep flirting?
[51:06] \[SPEAKER_05\]: We're gendered.
[51:06] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Interest.
[51:07] \[SPEAKER_05\]: So broken.
[51:07] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I was so confused.
[51:09] \[SPEAKER_05\]: So openly.
[51:10] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Like, oh, it's like we're on a date.
[51:12] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Boy, if you don't shut.
[51:14] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Yeah, that was so confused.
[51:16] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You know, that's so about.
[51:18] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I was like, are you like, yeah, what are you doing?
[51:22] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, I didn't understand that.
[51:24] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I mean, it didn't go anywhere, but it was, it was like aggressive.
[51:28] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And I was also like, why is Mama do not flirting with Journey?
[51:31] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I thought that was coming up too.
[51:34] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But it never happened.
[51:35] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Did they even interact?
[51:38] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Wait, did they?
[51:39] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I don't think so.
[51:39] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I feel like they never really did.
[51:41] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Oh, so.
[51:43] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And Mama was like not even like a real lawyer in the thing, like he was just like one of the people who's like
[51:52] \[SPEAKER_05\]: just so that it could seem like it wasn't this white man's idea to have a black man dance for them.
[51:58] \[SPEAKER_05\]: And Mama do is not an actual character at all.
[52:01] \[SPEAKER_04\]: They just put it in the eye.
[52:02] \[SPEAKER_05\]: They put it in the eye.
[52:05] \[SPEAKER_03\]: They put it in the eye.
[52:06] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Oh my god.
[52:07] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And my picture is feelings about this.
[52:09] \[SPEAKER_03\]: No, I don't want to think that.
[52:11] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I don't want to think that I will go back and watch only one simple thing which is the end credits that tell you what everybody did later on and if they don't mention Mama do at all that man ain't real okay wait apparently he is real okay but it looks like his youth was greatly exaggerated
[52:39] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Oh, because he is only the real person, how dark it is only three years younger than Willie Garry.
[52:47] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Oh, and so they keep making all these jokes about how he's a child and stuff.
[52:50] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Right.
[52:51] \[SPEAKER_05\]: But, but that wasn't.
[52:52] \[SPEAKER_03\]: But how much younger than, um, Garry was he?
[52:55] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Three years.
[52:56] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Just three.
[52:57] \[SPEAKER_00\]: All errors.
[52:59] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But in the movie, he's like 20.
[53:00] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Yeah, then I'm listening.
[53:06] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Yeah.
[53:06] \[SPEAKER_00\]: All errors.
[53:10] \[SPEAKER_00\]: fine.
[53:11] \[SPEAKER_00\]: You know, it was very like, even now we're talking about it.
[53:15] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I'm like, yeah, you know, I could put this on on the Sunday.
[53:24] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Well, my, my um, you know, 92 year old aunt and we have a good time.
[53:31] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You know what I mean?
[53:32] \[SPEAKER_00\]: She have a good old time.
[53:34] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Yeah.
[53:36] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I, you know, this is one of those movies that
[53:41] \[SPEAKER_02\]: it keeps like a very clear good and bad guys.
[53:46] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It doesn't feel like too messy with race.
[53:49] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Like you get the fun stuff of like them like going up to like, you know, a timely Jones is lawyer and being like, do you have a problem with black people?
[54:01] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You know, like, like, you get all these moments at, but like, Tommy Lee's singing, um, these good
[54:10] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah, seeing a timely Jones, seeing Tony Tony, Tony, Tony is her, Larry's, her, Larry's.
[54:20] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Time to be jealous, man.
[54:23] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Still making movies.
[54:25] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Less is hard.
[54:27] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Yeah.
[54:28] \[SPEAKER_03\]: This feels like very short episode, but is there anything else we want to... Is it even sure I can't see any loading thinking like,
[54:40] \[SPEAKER_03\]: What's up with the Oscars?
[54:41] \[SPEAKER_05\]: What's up with the Oscars?
[54:44] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I was like, I was like, well, you know, I just said while my mic was, while my mic was off though, I will add, I will add this one 15 seconds, which is we gotta be careful what we seeing on the pot because, I mean, you know, this ain't gonna go viral in the same way, but did you all see that that comedian that sang the circle of life on Godfrey's podcast?
[55:04] \[SPEAKER_05\]: uh... is getting sued for twenty seven million dollars wait why is that not real what it is uh... so that is what it's it i mean those lines are essentially in move faster i think we talked about it will be reviewed with us like that's based that it is basically like
[55:22] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Look, it's a lion, like that's, like, I think specifically in Mufasa, it's like, here comes a lion.
[55:27] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I think it's, yeah.
[55:27] \[SPEAKER_05\]: But that's basically the same.
[55:29] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I don't think there's very much difference in interpretation from look and here comes, but.
[55:35] \[SPEAKER_05\]: When they're swimming him for what?
[55:37] \[SPEAKER_05\]: For making fun of it?
[55:38] \[SPEAKER_05\]: For, for misrepresenting the lyrics.
[55:42] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Wait, I didn't find a lyrics, uh, um, lyrics to that lion.
[55:49] \[SPEAKER_05\]: But it it it it made me laugh because people kept sending me that the original clip and I kept being like it goes even farther those lines are in move fast like like it was like, oh, this is funny people are just now realizing this, but like, but it's in the mood it's in the movie.
[56:06] \[SPEAKER_05\]: The same what and it's it does make you think about the song differently when you when you realize that those are that those opening words are just hey.
[56:15] \[SPEAKER_05\]: There's a lion over here, it's like, no, just, it just doesn't feel as these lyrics are crazy.
[56:22] \[SPEAKER_03\]: These lyrics are crazy.
[56:25] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Wait, oh, oh, and it also makes me mad when you think about it because you don't see a lion for the first, like, minute of the song.
[56:32] \[SPEAKER_05\]: So the so it opens with, like, here comes a lion, but you don't see it yet.
[56:38] \[SPEAKER_05\]: And it makes me mad that they're singing about a lion, but you don't see my goodness.
[56:44] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Look, there's a lion.
[56:46] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, that's so funny to me.
[56:54] \[SPEAKER_03\]: That's so funny.
[56:56] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Look, there's a lion.
[57:01] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I was reading about different facts between what was real and what was it.
[57:05] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Oh, somebody did that though?
[57:08] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Okay, wait, what wasn't real?
[57:14] \[SPEAKER_02\]: talked about it's it's mostly just journey was the biggest one and then the age difference seems like a lot of the other stuff was real they had that racist ass lawyer yeah okay didn't get him on the stand like that because damn I don't know if they got him on the stand like that but he was apparently actually racist
[57:38] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And also when when this verdict came in for $500 million, it was the largest, oh, you know a amount awarded in the state of Mississippi, the previous was 18 million.
[57:52] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Wow.
[57:54] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It's also crazy 500 that went to just one family, not even like, hey, we heard this happen to all the black families.
[58:00] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And I know you can't do that in a court case.
[58:02] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I know.
[58:03] \[SPEAKER_03\]: They got that dude was like, I guess kind and nice.
[58:07] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Cause.
[58:08] \[SPEAKER_05\]: And they donated.
[58:09] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah, you could have kept it.
[58:10] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Because it would be one thing of like, if him being an 80 something your own man was like, well, I don't need this money.
[58:15] \[SPEAKER_03\]: But his kids can probably like, hey, we need all of this.
[58:18] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Dad, you know what I'm saying?
[58:20] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Come on, Paul.
[58:21] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, any who.
[58:26] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It's time for the cause.
[58:26] \[SPEAKER_02\]: We're going to review films that based on how much we like them, but whether or not it helps the cause of leading black actors at Hollywood.
[58:31] \[SPEAKER_02\]: We feel like it fully helps the cause.
[58:33] \[SPEAKER_02\]: We give it a black fist.
[58:34] \[SPEAKER_02\]: If it's someone helped the cause, we give it a white pump.
[58:36] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It doesn't really help the cause at all.
[58:37] \[SPEAKER_02\]: We don't give it anything on the count of three.
[58:38] \[SPEAKER_02\]: We'll all raise our ratings.
[58:40] \[SPEAKER_00\]: One, two, three, two.
[58:46] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Thanks.
[58:46] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And one night.
[58:50] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I gave it a white palm, but because I don't this movie helped anybody except for the director.
[58:58] \[SPEAKER_03\]: So I was like, except, because I was going to credits to like, like, journey makes movies, what would you make movies, Jamie will make movies?
[59:06] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I mean, I mean, journeys and movies, she just had, like, she just had an Apple show that did really well.
[59:12] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You know, how when we used to say journey makes movies, and then the first thing you reference is a TV show.
[59:19] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Well, because she black, not a lot of black people make movies.
[59:22] \[SPEAKER_03\]: What exactly?
[59:23] \[SPEAKER_03\]: When working in movies, and she's full black, she just likes it.
[59:27] \[SPEAKER_03\]: If she was half like she might be working, but she's full black.
[59:29] \[SPEAKER_03\]: So, you know, Joshua, not right now, um...
[59:35] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah, because she's like, she's not half.
[59:38] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Because you know, like, like, there's like, there was this article that came out about, um, what's considered like an entrepreneur that minus a person, a black woman, and most quote unquote, an entrepreneur in the last 10 or whatever years have been like mixed 20 something year old black girls.
[59:52] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Which is fine, it's just, you know, there's rarely like outside of a theater which was,
[59:58] \[SPEAKER_03\]: 2011, 2011.
[1:00:00] \[SPEAKER_03\]: She was the last, I said it on genu, and if you think about her career, LaPita doesn't get the start.
[1:00:04] \[SPEAKER_03\]: We've been on LaPita kick before.
[1:00:06] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Anyway, but she was the last black, like darker skinned, like what she was going to say.
[1:00:13] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I don't believe it like on genuves and things that nature, but she was
[1:00:16] \[SPEAKER_03\]: the last in one of the only dark skin on genu that we have had in Hollywood.
[1:00:22] \[SPEAKER_03\]: But I think for her to have been a true on genu is that Hollywood would have had to truly embrace her and she would have had a hat to have had chances to truly lead films and projects in live action because she did do a good amount of like
[1:00:36] \[SPEAKER_03\]: you know, see John other type of characters, but in live action.
[1:00:39] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Right.
[1:00:39] \[SPEAKER_05\]: But you're, but you're like, Zinday as an on-genoo and she's in days an on-genoo.
[1:00:43] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You listen to her, you listen to her, you listen to her, you listen to her, you listen to her, you listen to her, you listen to her, you listen to her, you listen to her, you listen to her, you listen to her, you listen to her, you listen to her, you listen to her, you listen to her, you listen to her, you listen to her, you listen to her, you listen to her, you listen to her, you listen to her, you listen to her, you listen to her, you listen to her, you listen to her, you listen to her, you listen to her, you listen to her, you listen to her, you listen to her, you listen to her, you listen to her, you listen to her, you listen to her, you
[1:01:03] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I guess I'm only saying because journey like journey definitely don't give me wrong.
[1:01:08] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Everyone needs what work.
[1:01:09] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I'm just saying when I think like if it's a movie that I don't necessarily like love I'm like okay to this movie put someone new on or is this movie like like I don't think she was in this movie a turn um I don't think her part was like super meaty in any type of way yeah I don't know anything
[1:01:32] \[SPEAKER_03\]: or his wife was I don't know and then like mama do clearly as in movies like he's in the news and day of movie like he's chilling yeah those came after this wouldn't that mama do was doing fine before this but he was he was he was in Jurassic Park wasn't Jurassic Park before this
[1:01:49] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Yeah, like mama was fine.
[1:01:51] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Like you're like, if anybody, yeah, no, I mean, I wouldn't say that this, this movie didn't elevate any of its elevate, propel any of its cast, right?
[1:02:00] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Well, I mean, it had a 92% on rotten tomatoes.
[1:02:03] \[SPEAKER_05\]: So I don't know, so I don't know if I can say that.
[1:02:05] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I think that's why I hope the director.
[1:02:06] \[SPEAKER_03\]: That's why, that's why I gave it for like the director, because I feel like if anything like the director, but you don't hope it is more shots.
[1:02:13] \[SPEAKER_05\]: The right.
[1:02:14] \[SPEAKER_05\]: And so they might my one question to you then and it's fine.
[1:02:17] \[SPEAKER_05\]: You gave it a poem because it only helped one member of the of the team, but to me, it's like a black woman director writer because she also co-wrote movie.
[1:02:30] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I probably as a director as doing her director pass or we're having you, but you don't think that that counts.
[1:02:37] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Substantially like that's but that's why I get like that's why I gave it a poem because I didn't Yeah, you want to be even giving it up.
[1:02:43] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Yeah, like he is nothing but a woman Yeah, she's the reason it's kidding.
[1:02:47] \[SPEAKER_05\]: She's the reason it's getting done for me It would this would get nothing if this was like a if it were a black man I mean if it would have been a new like it was like Yeah, but this would have been like I don't know
[1:03:02] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Or why do I do I got nothing at all in the middle of it.
[1:03:04] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Okay, I mean, okay, all right, that's all I was I just wanted to it wasn't even questioning you, it was just trying to figure trying to understand.
[1:03:11] \[SPEAKER_03\]: No, no, yeah, I mean, listen, you know, I can't, I can't, I can't talk about shit.
[1:03:19] \[SPEAKER_04\]: So I'm just saying, you know, that somebody just give us just a couple mil.
[1:03:26] \[SPEAKER_04\]: We don't need that many mil.
[1:03:27] \[SPEAKER_04\]: We just need just like a good.
[1:03:29] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It's good to give us like a couple of meals.
[1:03:31] \[SPEAKER_03\]: So, the rock can direct something.
[1:03:32] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Please, let me just, can I be in a movie?
[1:03:34] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Well, literally, I was talking about buddies and everyone has been in a movie and I was like, oh, yeah, make us been in movies.
[1:03:39] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I was the only nigga, not in a movie.
[1:03:42] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I never had them in the auditions for movies, but anyway.
[1:03:44] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I mean, technically I've been in... Ray's been in several movies.
[1:03:48] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah, I was in three minutes.
[1:03:49] \[SPEAKER_05\]: He's been in multiple films.
[1:03:50] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Specifically.
[1:03:51] \[SPEAKER_05\]: That is multiple.
[1:03:52] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Hey, bro.
[1:03:53] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Is it not fake?
[1:03:54] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Is it not multiple films?
[1:03:56] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Is it multiple films?
[1:03:56] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It's more than one.
[1:03:57] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Now, the movie's somewhat in GoC in theaters.
[1:04:00] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And I'm like, my voice is, both of these are movies.
[1:04:03] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah.
[1:04:03] \[SPEAKER_05\]: If you have a program that can take layered voices in a way,
[1:04:09] \[SPEAKER_05\]: You can pull my voice out in good burger.
[1:04:13] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Good burger, too.
[1:04:14] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I'm in.
[1:04:15] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I'm in that.
[1:04:17] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Oh, your voice is in good burger, too.
[1:04:19] \[SPEAKER_05\]: My voice is.
[1:04:20] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I count it.
[1:04:21] \[SPEAKER_03\]: That count.
[1:04:22] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You can do you?
[1:04:23] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Listen.
[1:04:25] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I ain't been near a movie.
[1:04:26] \[SPEAKER_03\]: So I like it.
[1:04:27] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Look.
[1:04:28] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I'm here.
[1:04:29] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I ain't been near a movie.
[1:04:31] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I think the last audition after a movie was for a white part.
[1:04:35] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And then it ended up going to a white dude.
[1:04:37] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And I was like, you know what?
[1:04:39] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I tried to break down on the color barrier.
[1:04:41] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And it didn't work, maybe.
[1:04:43] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Nice try.
[1:04:43] \[SPEAKER_03\]: But I like that.
[1:04:44] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It was still fun though.
[1:04:46] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Well, I gave this a black fist because I, you know, I mean, yes, like Jamie foxes there, whatever, but I still think this is again, it's like reminds people, Jamie fox, like this dude's got it reminds people about Jeremy, like, yeah, she's great.
[1:05:04] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And Mama do, yeah, come on now.
[1:05:07] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So, yeah, it's got, it's got them black leads.
[1:05:10] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Wow.
[1:05:11] \[SPEAKER_02\]: People like, he's trying to, like, really scary his.
[1:05:14] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Can we find another, let's try to find another story like this and put more black people in the forefront.
[1:05:21] \[SPEAKER_05\]: All right, James?
[1:05:24] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Oh yeah, I mean same, same.
[1:05:26] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I thought, I, when I saw that this was a black woman director, I was like, okay, this movie gets everything for me, that they're not, so I made that decisions.
[1:05:33] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Some, the movie ended and I checked, and I checked, I was like, oh, Maggie, and then I had to look, and I was just like, yeah, this is,
[1:05:40] \[SPEAKER_04\]: This is black fat.
[1:05:41] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And I said that's the top of the pot, black fists, black woman, black fists, black woman.
[1:05:46] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Black fists, this, that's how it goes.
[1:05:49] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Oh, it's very good.

[1:09:13] \[SPEAKER_05\]: He backed.
[1:09:14] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I'm only back if this show is fun.
[1:09:17] \[SPEAKER_05\]: If next week's show is fun, I do improv again.
[1:09:22] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Okay, okay.
[1:09:23] \[SPEAKER_05\]: If next week's show is not fun, then it was a one and done.
[1:09:26] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Lord.
[1:09:27] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Oh, good.
[1:09:28] \[SPEAKER_05\]: All right.
[1:09:29] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Well, also, if you rain review us on iTunes, give us five stars.
[1:09:33] \[SPEAKER_02\]: We'll read your review on the air.
[1:09:34] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I stop saying it because people have stopped reviewing, but now I'm feel like it's like a chicken and the eggs scenario.
[1:09:41] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And so, Jay, guys, give us a five star rating on iTunes and we'll read your review on the air.
[1:09:47] \[SPEAKER_02\]: All right.
[1:09:48] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Thank you guys so much for listening.
[1:09:49] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I had that people have used that as an opportunity to shade us.
[1:09:53] \[SPEAKER_05\]: And so, which is a good one.
[1:09:54] \[SPEAKER_05\]: But you have to give us five stars.
[1:09:56] \[SPEAKER_05\]: You've got to go to five stars and then the shade can begin.
[1:09:58] \[SPEAKER_02\]: All right.
[1:09:59] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Well, thank you all so much for listening.
[1:10:01] \[SPEAKER_02\]: We'll see you in two weeks.
[1:10:02] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Peace.
