## Transcript

[0:07] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Are you a big shark weak fans?
[0:11] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I was as a kid, but not in that world.
[0:14] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Sure, long time ago.
[0:18] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, I may not do it like the Discovery Channel thing, but I do love watching nature documentaries and, man, sharks are.
[0:27] \[SPEAKER_02\]: They're crazy.
[0:29] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I feel like there's such a, there's felt like there's such a, they're crazy.
[0:32] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You know, love of sharks.
[0:33] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Like there's like two metlidon movies, like three metlidons and I'm like, what's going on?
[0:37] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Why is this so much?
[0:38] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Wait, they're making a third Mac, the Mac move?
[0:40] \[SPEAKER_03\]: No, but I mean, there's been like, so there's a Mac, you got me.
[0:43] \[SPEAKER_03\]: So there's another Maclinon movie.
[0:45] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And I feel like it's just, why are we talking?
[0:47] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Well, there's always, I mean, sharks are great.
[0:49] \[SPEAKER_04\]: They're great to which you perked up about the concept of a third Mac.
[0:54] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Maclinon is surprising.
[0:56] \[SPEAKER_02\]: They're making a third Mac.
[0:57] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I like them make man.
[1:00] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You like make two with two makes?
[1:02] \[SPEAKER_02\]: No, it's actually called make to the trench.
[1:05] \[SPEAKER_02\]: We're great.
[1:06] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I'm pretty sure is it Oh my god the make to the trash I haven't seen those what I like.
[1:12] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Would you think I would like them, brain?
[1:15] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Um I think did you like um did you like uh?
[1:20] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Perana 3D.
[1:21] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I didn't see Perana either.
[1:23] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Oh, I have it.
[1:25] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I typically I have avoided a lot of these movies.
[1:30] \[SPEAKER_04\]: You saw Chrome because I I just saw Chris I just saw crawl for the first time.
[1:35] \[SPEAKER_04\]: But I avoid a lot of these movies because I think they're going to be like too hokey, you know.
[1:44] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Like I only subject myself to like to hokeyness when they're dinosaurs involved, which I guess the mega is adjacent.
[1:51] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Technically.
[1:52] \[SPEAKER_04\]: But it's like, it's like, I already watch enough of movies like that to where like certain genres.
[1:58] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I'm just like, I'm going to avoid like I'm going to avoid the monster movie.
[2:02] \[SPEAKER_04\]: But I, but you know, but if you like the lead and I don't know, that's amazing.
[2:06] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I did like, I did like the Meg.
[2:07] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I thought the second one wasn't was not as good, but I do like movies that are a little cheesy.
[2:13] \[SPEAKER_02\]: If they know that they're cheesy and they're doing it in the right way and it's fun.
[2:17] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I'm not somebody, though, who goes down the rabbit hole of these because there's a whole industry of this, of course.
[2:24] \[SPEAKER_02\]: We're just like people just make B movies, the movies that used to be on the sci-fi channel.
[2:29] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Now a lot of them are just like the shark natives, like I don't like not watching shark natives.
[2:35] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, I'm not, I'm not necessarily about those.
[2:38] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I like the ones that are like good enough to like go into theaters.
[2:47] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But they're still kind of hokey, like, I guess that's the say, I like when the special effects are good.
[2:54] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, right?
[2:55] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Because like, okay, that's absolutely 100%.
[2:58] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I guess that's the really the main difference.
[2:59] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And then the other differences that they'll get a couple of, you like, named actors in them, too, if possible.
[3:08] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But yeah, I think the creature features can get, I mean, they're ultimately, they get pretty redundant.
[3:17] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You know, you're just like, you know, they're and then ultimately you watch them and you're like, yeah, this is this is trash No This straight up trash That's bad.
[3:32] \[SPEAKER_03\]: That's a bad one, but this in the trash put this in the thrash.
[3:38] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Okay, we just let that go That's the this is start to show good.
[3:42] \[SPEAKER_03\]: That's bad.
[3:42] \[SPEAKER_03\]: That's bad
[3:44] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
[4:36] \[SPEAKER_02\]: We were just talking about you.
[4:39] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I believe is the next line.
[4:41] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It is.
[4:42] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Mr. Olson, we were just talking about you.
[4:44] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It's how they say it.
[4:47] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Guys, welcome, welcome, welcome.
[4:49] \[SPEAKER_02\]: For those of you who are listening for the first time, thank you so much.
[4:52] \[SPEAKER_02\]: We are a film review podcast.
[4:54] \[SPEAKER_02\]: We review the films of leading black actors.
[4:56] \[SPEAKER_02\]: We talk about them in the context of race and diversity in Hollywood.
[5:00] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And there are three of us who host this show.
[5:02] \[SPEAKER_02\]: The one you're listening to right now
[5:06] \[SPEAKER_02\]: is leaving immediately, if I get a hurricane warning.
[5:10] \[SPEAKER_02\]: That's real.
[5:11] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I'm not, I don't care about my house.
[5:14] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I don't care about my things.
[5:15] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I mean, I'll take some stuff, but I'm getting out of there.
[5:19] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You're not catching me and no hurricane.
[5:21] \[SPEAKER_02\]: That's real.
[5:23] \[SPEAKER_02\]: This way, is that a dry milligan?
[5:25] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And this voice has changed the third.
[5:27] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And today, we are reviewing the 2026 Netflix film thrash, some might call this a TV movie because, you know, that's just, I mean, that's kind of how movies are now, honestly, and it's that and that's what we're going to do.
[5:45] \[SPEAKER_02\]: This film is currently number two in movies on Netflix.
[5:51] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It premiered at number one with 37.7 million views, making it the third biggest movie opening on Netflix this year behind war machine and the rip.
[6:07] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But ahead of people we met on vacation and ahead of the
[6:15] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Currently has a 43% on Rotten Tomatoes, however, audience score, 24%.
[6:24] \[SPEAKER_00\]: That's worse, 24.
[6:31] \[SPEAKER_02\]: This film stars with the peak BB,
[6:42] \[SPEAKER_02\]: didn't to never.
[6:43] \[SPEAKER_02\]: The woman from Bridgetown.
[6:46] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, uh, did you mind Hans Sue?
[6:53] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Uh, and some other people, and it is about her came five, uh, storm, decimating a town and it brings in a bunch of sharks, specifically bull sharks.
[7:09] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Which uh, I mean, guys, I mean, how much do we have?
[7:11] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Oh, I'm sorry, but I'm oh.
[7:14] \[SPEAKER_02\]: How much to be learned about blue sharks?
[7:17] \[SPEAKER_02\]: They were so hyped to say, bull sharks.
[7:19] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, they really loved it.
[7:21] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, I think that's, that's all, that's all there is to say there.
[7:26] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Obviously, no box office.
[7:29] \[SPEAKER_02\]: The comment clocking in at a nice crisp 86 minutes crisp, crisp 86 crisp.
[7:40] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Shall we do initial thoughts?
[7:42] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I can go.
[7:43] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I thought Whitney was in a drastically different movie than everybody else.
[7:47] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I thought like,
[7:50] \[SPEAKER_04\]: That's the thing everybody else.
[7:52] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I thought she was in a whole different.
[7:55] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I thought her and I guess the girl from Bridgetton Yeah, we're like maybe in the same movie, but even then there are certain scenes.
[8:00] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I'm like throwing it open in But you know it was and when it opened with her I thought we were in for a different type of movie because I'm like, oh, this girl click out of pt it like okay She couldn't do some shit right when this movie started
[8:12] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I was like, this is, I know y'all heard it, the rumors about Netflix having to repeat the same thing over and over again and how people watch movies in the background and I was trying to, while watching this movie, I watched it at a
[8:25] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You watch that background.
[8:26] \[SPEAKER_03\]: No, so I think I couldn't cause I was trying to watch it before I drove back for Vegas.
[8:30] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I watched it and a lot of other people started watching it with me because I watched it in like the Italy and the park in June.
[8:36] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And it was kind of fun because people all were kind of like asking questions about how I felt about it.
[8:41] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And I was like, oh, this feels like a Netflix TV movie and I was trying to figure out why to feel like that.
[8:46] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It's definitely the color palette.
[8:48] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It is definitely the repeating of things and it's definitely the acting style, which I think is is.
[8:54] \[SPEAKER_03\]: But does it?
[8:56] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I did not enjoy it.
[8:58] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I thought Whitney was good.
[8:59] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I guess the woman for, but also they, the script was so bad.
[9:03] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I thought the woman from Bridgetin.
[9:04] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I was like, why is she doing certain things?
[9:05] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Then I went point.
[9:06] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I was like, don't you go say it is white girl?
[9:07] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You could die.
[9:08] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I was like, I can't.
[9:09] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Don't let her guilt you into this.
[9:10] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I, I, I, I, man.
[9:13] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And then that other family really made her guilt her into it.
[9:17] \[SPEAKER_04\]: They really, like, like, that was the choice the movie made.
[9:22] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And no man, I am, I am thinking I'm getting tired of watching stuff and it's not like a black person under like 50 dude in it.
[9:30] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And I'm like, this just can fucking out of hand, yo.
[9:32] \[SPEAKER_03\]: That's another thing that's starting to bother me.
[9:34] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah, I just genuinely didn't care about that other, the kid family, while I got to focus on them.
[9:40] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Um, this movie felt so long.
[9:44] \[SPEAKER_03\]: So the here y'all say 85 minutes is crazy.
[9:47] \[SPEAKER_04\]: crazy, but yeah, it felt so ugly, but I understand what you are dying.
[9:57] \[SPEAKER_04\]: There was a point.
[9:58] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I actually had the opposite.
[9:59] \[SPEAKER_04\]: There was a point where I looked was like I paused it to go Maddie, Maddie woke up and I had to go get her and I was like, oh damn it's almost over.
[10:07] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Like That was the experience I had.
[10:11] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah, it's like, oh wow, but okay.
[10:15] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Sorry.
[10:15] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I mean in the rest.
[10:16] \[SPEAKER_03\]: No, that's how I'm done.
[10:17] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I'm done
[10:18] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Okay, I'll I'll go.
[10:19] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I'll go next.
[10:20] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Um, all right.
[10:21] \[SPEAKER_04\]: So I had a better time watching it.
[10:23] \[SPEAKER_04\]: That's what the genre did.
[10:25] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I don't think this is a great movie by by any strum.
[10:28] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I wouldn't call it great.
[10:30] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I, uh, it feels derivative of some of these other things that I think we've already kind of kind of talked about.
[10:36] \[SPEAKER_04\]: So those were the things that kind that throw me the most and like you start comparing scripts in that way like that thing dress at about like gilting her into it.
[10:45] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Like it feels like an active choice of the movie that she's gilted into into going to save her rather than any other kind of reasons she could have tried.
[10:53] \[SPEAKER_04\]: to go save or just witnessing it or blah, blah, blah, whatever, you know, I feel like the movie's biggest hurdle for me is like there is a lot going on.
[11:03] \[SPEAKER_04\]: There's like so much going on, like the ticking clock of the of the pregnancy, the anxiety, the the sharks, the great white shark, the
[11:15] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Everyone's kind of varying positions on the storm felt real and also I don't know I don't know there was just like a lot of like it felt like it was juggling more than it potentially needed to and this could be
[11:31] \[SPEAKER_04\]: All this is, say, this could be coming from having I saw crawl for the first time in October and really liked it and like I thought it was really well made and it's a very kind of straightforward simple story.
[11:45] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It follows one person dealing with a mess.
[11:50] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And so to me it was like four or five different tracks.
[11:56] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I was like, I don't even think I need, I didn't need, I didn't need to let alone for.
[12:01] \[SPEAKER_04\]: What else?
[12:02] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Oh, I was kind of surprised how much we like don't see like for for how good the sharks looked and for how good the water and everything looked like I was shocked at how like we kept pulling away every time in a tack happened like I thought that that was kind of potentially working to the movies detriment.
[12:22] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I don't know.
[12:23] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I liked, but I, but all that to say, like, I liked that, like, a meat truck explosion.
[12:29] \[SPEAKER_04\]: That's what brings all of this.
[12:31] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Like, just stuff like that was fun.
[12:32] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I thought I thought I got a little too funny towards the end.
[12:36] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Like, I liked some of the pops of humor, but I thought it was like, oh, this feels tonally drastically different now.
[12:42] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Like, now feels like now we're potentially in a full-long comedy versus where we were at the start.
[12:47] \[SPEAKER_04\]: So yeah.
[12:48] \[SPEAKER_04\]: No, those are my loose kind of thoughts and excited to talk about it more specifically.
[12:53] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah.
[12:54] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, I mean, look, I enjoyed my time.
[13:00] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I enjoyed my time.
[13:02] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Now is the movie good?
[13:05] \[SPEAKER_02\]: No, I mean, either we know that.
[13:08] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Everybody knew that already.
[13:09] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It's not good.
[13:11] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Script is bad.
[13:17] \[SPEAKER_02\]: wild.
[13:19] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But you know, the movie knows what it is.
[13:21] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And I think that's why people are watching it because it's just like, hey, I don't know.
[13:25] \[SPEAKER_02\]: We're just going to get some people killed by sharks.
[13:28] \[SPEAKER_02\]: There's like, okay, and it gets into it pretty, pretty quickly.
[13:32] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I thought both Phoebe and Whitney were like, like, it was a fun pairing.
[13:41] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I like that.
[13:44] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I like, like,
[13:45] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Thought like the Dissumon part was like a little it was weird.
[13:50] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I felt like He was in the movie more than I thought he was going to be like at first.
[13:55] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I was like, oh, they just like have him.
[13:57] \[SPEAKER_02\]: He's just going to do this small thing and then whatever But he was like kind of in the movie more than I thought and yet you like It felt his role still felt so small and kind of like yeah I'm just like I don't know.
[14:09] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I felt like you could have did a little bit more with that I also didn't quite understand the release ship they were trying to build like they were like
[14:16] \[SPEAKER_02\]: That was his, um, that was his niece.
[14:20] \[SPEAKER_02\]: That was his niece, but he's not sort of the father figure.
[14:24] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And he's the father figure, but they didn't say that until like she said her dad died.
[14:29] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And I was like, did she not like that?
[14:31] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I just saw him.
[14:32] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah.
[14:34] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, I mean, it was weird because she was like, she was like, he said something like, I don't know how to, sorry.
[14:39] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I don't know how to do this dad thing.
[14:40] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And I was like, what?
[14:41] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Like you're not her dad.
[14:43] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I don't know.
[14:43] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I don't know.
[14:46] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I'm just like, and also, like, I don't even understand, like, what is the parental thing that you're doing just making sure she's like, okay, like, I don't know.
[14:53] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Anyway, that didn't quite work, even though I enjoyed the fact that he was in the movie, because I just, like, him 100%.
[15:02] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And then, yeah, like, the white, like, the, I, I guess were they in Florida or were they?
[15:07] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I don't know.
[15:10] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Oh, South Carolina, yeah, yeah.
[15:12] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I just like the accents and maybe those are like real accents native to that place, but it was just like, it just felt so because nobody else had those accents, I was just like, what's going on?
[15:19] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Like, are they just doing that?
[15:20] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Cause they're like, they don't like, they don't like, they don't like, they don't like, they don't like, they don't like, they don't like, they don't like, they don't like, they don't like, they don't like, they don't like, they don't like, they don't like, they don't like, they don't like, they don't like, they don't like, they don't like, they don't like, they don't like, they don't like, they don't like, they don't like, they don't like, they don't like, they don't like, they don't like, they don't like,
[15:32] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I mean, I don't mind having like a guy, like a, you know, a couple that were like, we want to see these people die.
[15:39] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I was surprised we didn't get to see the reporters die.
[15:43] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I was like, I thought for sure you were setting up that these camera people were going to die.
[15:48] \[SPEAKER_04\]: The reporters says no matter what keep it rolling, no matter what happens, keep it rolling.
[16:02] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I can't believe it didn't do it, it's quite amazing that they didn't have him die.
[16:08] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I felt so cheated, that I would say, just like everything that happened in the movie, that was what upset me the most, I was just like, what the heck.
[16:17] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You know, it was tech, I got to say like, even though everything was so cheesy, there were still moments where I felt myself tense and up, you know, how are people getting
[16:31] \[SPEAKER_04\]: So I don't know is there anything else I'll just say off of what you just said that when I after I After I grabbed Maddie I can't ask like oh, how's the movie and I was like, you know, it's not good, but I am like invested like the to what you said about like their moments of being 10 stuff like that was how I That was genuinely how I felt to where I was like, oh, I'm I like care about like I want to see if this baby's gonna get born I want to see you know like I want to like see This stuff, but I'm also like
[16:59] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah, you know.
[17:00] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I didn't enjoy the line.
[17:02] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Hold on.
[17:03] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Mama's got to go kill a shark.
[17:05] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Mama's got to kill some sharks.
[17:07] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Hold on.
[17:08] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Mama's got to go kill some sharks.
[17:09] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I was like that's pretty good.
[17:12] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It was pretty good, but it made me mad, but here's the thing though, here's the thing.
[17:16] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I don't think that was the movie.
[17:18] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I don't think that was the movie.
[17:19] \[SPEAKER_02\]: No, what?
[17:21] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Right, that wasn't happening in the movie.
[17:23] \[SPEAKER_02\]: That wasn't at all.
[17:24] \[SPEAKER_02\]: This is the first time that it's happening in the movie.
[17:26] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And they did the like the thousand miles while they, while they get the dynamite.
[17:31] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And it was like, what, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, we were in a sudden shift in the movie was suddenly a different thing.
[17:37] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And it was like, click that's in between.
[17:40] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, it was kind of between them.
[17:42] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It also like made no sense.
[17:43] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Like that made no sense.
[17:44] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I was like, they saw the dynamite.
[17:47] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And I was like, I mean, whatever.
[17:49] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I don't movies like this get made, you know?
[17:51] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Like, like, and this is just, I need to know, because I got to make them.
[17:54] \[SPEAKER_03\]: This is the last thing, because I'm like, I, I, I watched this movie and I won't point.
[17:59] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And I was like, I think I said it all out.
[18:01] \[SPEAKER_03\]: The person I was driving with goes, we mean, I was like, I think so many movies.
[18:04] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I've seen every people's scripts that are so,
[18:08] \[SPEAKER_03\]: good.
[18:09] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And they don't get made.
[18:10] \[SPEAKER_03\]: They lose money.
[18:11] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And I look at this movie.
[18:12] \[SPEAKER_03\]: They have money for effects clearly.
[18:14] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And it's bad.
[18:16] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And people will accept that it's bad.
[18:19] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And it made it to like what number two or some shit.
[18:21] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And I'm like, I mean, everyone is not.
[18:24] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Not number one.
[18:25] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Number one.
[18:25] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It's first week.
[18:26] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah, first, first week, number one.
[18:27] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah.
[18:30] \[SPEAKER_04\]: to rock out so sad.
[18:31] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You can't see his face, but it's like, it's like, because we're joking about stuff that's bad about this movie.
[18:37] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Like, this movie is like, oh, you watch it.
[18:39] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And you forget about it.
[18:40] \[SPEAKER_03\]: But you watch it.
[18:41] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You're like, all right, that's cool.
[18:42] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You shook.
[18:43] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I'm entertained.
[18:44] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You know, you're like, you're like, you're voice gets squeaky.
[18:49] \[SPEAKER_03\]: you get a good actress like Whitney and this and I'm like I've seen so many movies with better scripts that don't get me that won't cost as much when is this one and I'm looking at this movie and I looked up this director no offense sorry and it's like how bro tell me tell me how you did it teach me yeah I mean there is a market for these types of films like this is like hey
[19:16] \[SPEAKER_02\]: people want to see movies where sharks eat people.
[19:20] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And then it's like, cool, I wrote a movie about sharks eating people.
[19:25] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And they're like, great, we want to make that.
[19:31] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So if you are okay with making a movie that's not good, that is the subject matter is redundant and derivative
[19:47] \[SPEAKER_02\]: The great white shark, killing the bull shark, is just the Jurassic Park moment that we've already seen, Jurassic Park be derivative of in its own franchise.
[19:59] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And other movies have also done that of just like, I mean, this movie is just complete rip off of crawl.
[20:04] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Like, this movie is crawl.
[20:07] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It's just replacing
[20:09] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Gators with sharks.
[20:11] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It's like the same exact movie.
[20:14] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And Carl is much better, clearly.
[20:17] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Much in the characterization is better and the justification, all that stuff.
[20:22] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But like people are like, hey, this work, can you make something that's just like this?
[20:27] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And if you have no shame, you go, yeah, I'll do that.
[20:30] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And then you just find, I don't know, somebody, but one of these production companies that's willing to make it.
[20:35] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I mean, here's a funny thing about it, though,
[20:38] \[SPEAKER_02\]: For instance, there's another shark movie on Netflix right now and it's just another shark movie and like that movie is not going to do as well as thrashed it and there's no there's not going to be a real reason for it's not it's not like people can be like oh like
[20:55] \[SPEAKER_02\]: No, this one is better because it's just like, no, it's the same garbage, but for some reason this one hit at the right time, I don't know, I just like, then Netflix push it and people were like, yeah, great.
[21:09] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, I'm like, well, apparently Stephen King, I think tweeted about it.
[21:16] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I think that was part of it too.
[21:18] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Oh, hell yeah.
[21:18] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I don't know.
[21:20] \[SPEAKER_04\]: got that Stephen King endorsement?
[21:22] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Okay.
[21:23] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I will say, I do think smart idea to go, please Kelly, there's smart idea to, I mean, I get a baby being born during this.
[21:39] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I do think that added threat.
[21:40] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Like that was like good state.
[21:42] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It was like, oh, yeah, baby's has to be born, yeah.
[21:45] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And then like her like in the water
[21:49] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Just bring a water.
[21:50] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Okay.
[21:50] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Okay.
[21:51] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You know what, Bray?
[21:52] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You know what did this movie better?
[21:54] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You remember?
[21:56] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I saw what you a freaking quiet place.
[21:59] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Let me tell you why a quiet place did a better because the circumstances made sense.
[22:04] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And in this movie, I'm like, okay, you know what, blood in the water?
[22:07] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Perfect.
[22:08] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You're gonna build it up to I didn't even notice when it was pregnant they had one quick shot when the water was coming up and I was like Oh, is she pregnant or is that like the water going under her sun dress?
[22:16] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I can't tell and then at one point she goes, I'm pregnant and I'm like, okay Oh, you weren't paying attention.
[22:21] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Oh, was it?
[22:22] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Okay, because I earlier the movie she called her mom and she was like
[22:26] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Okay, baby is coming.
[22:28] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Okay, I missed it.
[22:29] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Okay, that's right.
[22:30] \[SPEAKER_03\]: But yeah, by the time she gets in the water, I'm mixing up again, I'm not saying this needs to be like a bloody movie or something.
[22:36] \[SPEAKER_03\]: But the whole point, the whole fear is that when you have a baby, you know what's going to happen.
[22:40] \[SPEAKER_03\]: The blood in the water, the sharks are going to come.
[22:42] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And I felt like.
[22:44] \[SPEAKER_03\]: there wasn't a blend of water when that baby came out of baby was perfect and I'm like that like because you would have had the shot of like any of those movies like you see like the blood kind of floating the water wasted sharpness distance to come back yeah they did do that they did have yeah they had like over-head shot they had an overhead shot of all the blood spilling out and she's like in the water swimming the baby came out of the blood because the baby was born and I could probably just because the baby was born in the water
[23:14] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah, they did a big overhead shot, and it was like, there was so much water.
[23:18] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It did take the sharks much longer than I thought it would.
[23:22] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah, it took them forever.
[23:24] \[SPEAKER_03\]: That's what I mean.
[23:26] \[SPEAKER_03\]: That's what I mean.
[23:28] \[SPEAKER_03\]: That's what I mean.
[23:29] \[SPEAKER_03\]: That's what I mean.
[23:32] \[SPEAKER_04\]: But yeah, the, the, the, the, the, quite please did do it better though.
[23:36] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Well, here's the thing that I'm in.
[23:37] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I, I did want to talk about this whole like, okay, they set up Whitney's character as somebody who has a gorephobia, so she's afraid of the outside.
[23:47] \[SPEAKER_02\]: She hasn't left her house in a really long time because her mom died.
[23:52] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And so this is also the reason why she's staying put in the hurricane, even though there's an evacuation notice.
[23:58] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And they obviously like utilize it in this first scene where she like Lee used to try to go save her, which I, which again, like, okay, you're adding like some stakes to this, but then like.
[24:10] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It kind of like once she broke it, then it was like, it just never came back and then it didn't feel like the magically tied into anything.
[24:19] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You know what I mean?
[24:19] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It was just like something they did for stakes for like one moment and then they did that.
[24:24] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Where she was like, oh, scared to like go out, but then she did it.
[24:27] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And then I was also like, did we need the stakes of that?
[24:30] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Because like being afraid of sharks because you literally saw like,
[24:34] \[SPEAKER_02\]: two to three people died.
[24:36] \[SPEAKER_04\]: That's what I struggled with it.
[24:40] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Why it felt like it was too much because it was like you wouldn't want to go outside period.
[24:46] \[SPEAKER_04\]: There's also a hurricane out there.
[24:51] \[SPEAKER_04\]: There's like a tie could sweep you away, you could drown any number of reason to not leave.
[24:57] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And then, so I texted y'all like this movie is trying me or whatever, was that texted?
[25:03] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It was this part because we also see her slip immediately when she gets out and it's just like, you expect me to believe she's not only gonna have this much trouble getting out, she's gonna also expertly get this woman,
[25:19] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Cut a freaking tree branch and get her out of the car and then help her because she would need help Getting over a thing that you already struggled slipping out.
[25:32] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I mean like and then just cut to her climb them climbing in fine Like I was like, okay, all right.
[25:37] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I don't know what this movie wants me to do, but they are really trying me Meanwhile the other two like adult men who try to help her like got killed by sharks immediately instantly instant death
[25:50] \[SPEAKER_03\]: gruesome death gruesome death.
[25:52] \[SPEAKER_03\]: My man was like face towards the car against the glass death.
[25:58] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah.
[26:00] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah.
[26:01] \[SPEAKER_04\]: We've got to do try to try to get out the um try to get out the meat truck dead instantly.
[26:06] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Dead instantly.
[26:11] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Oh, man.
[26:12] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Also when you get some.
[26:14] \[SPEAKER_03\]: What, you know, I don't want crap on this movement and movie got made, but let's let me loose the director's name.
[26:19] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Tommy.
[26:22] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Written and directed by, right?
[26:24] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Written and directed by.
[26:26] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Honestly good for them.
[26:27] \[SPEAKER_04\]: He's good for them.
[26:28] \[SPEAKER_02\]: He's known for dead snow, too.
[26:33] \[SPEAKER_02\]: No red versus dead.
[26:37] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Or dead.
[26:38] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I guess he made dead snow.
[26:41] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Oh, he wrote the, he wrote, Hansel and Greta will witch hunter.
[26:46] \[SPEAKER_02\]: He directed that too.
[26:47] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Do you remember that movie?
[26:48] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Okay, all right.
[26:50] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Okay, this person.
[26:51] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Hansel and Greta will go, I didn't see it, but I remember it.
[26:54] \[SPEAKER_04\]: What happened to Melissa, what sounds familiar?
[26:56] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yo, yes.
[27:00] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Oh, I don't know what's weird, but I saw it.
[27:06] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Oh, I didn't see it.
[27:07] \[SPEAKER_04\]: What happened to Monday?
[27:08] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Let me see.
[27:09] \[SPEAKER_04\]: The movie about the their clones.
[27:11] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah.
[27:13] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Oh.
[27:15] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Oh, is that one?
[27:16] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, and they all have a day.
[27:18] \[SPEAKER_02\]: That's their day.
[27:18] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Oh, right.
[27:20] \[SPEAKER_02\]: He also directed, uh, Thailand Monday.
[27:24] \[SPEAKER_02\]: That's the Santa.
[27:24] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Oh, I liked violent night.
[27:27] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I liked violent night.
[27:28] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Okay, all right.
[27:29] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I'm cool.
[27:30] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Oops.
[27:32] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I'm cool.
[27:33] \[SPEAKER_04\]: This could have been handled differently.
[27:34] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I'm just going to say that.
[27:35] \[SPEAKER_04\]: That's all I'm going to say.
[27:36] \[SPEAKER_04\]: You like Violin Knight?
[27:38] \[SPEAKER_04\]: This one could have been handled differently.
[27:40] \[SPEAKER_02\]: No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no
[28:01] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Oh, and the other is about the quest of Simon the Seaman and his friend to reach the golden gold the egg.
[28:10] \[SPEAKER_02\]: What's it?
[28:10] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It's about a white redhead dude in a black girl pregnant.
[28:14] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Oh, my.
[28:21] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Holy hell holy crap.
[28:26] \[SPEAKER_04\]: This is crazy, but see all of this, all of this is all of this that I'm learning though, is helping is making me understand that this person knows that this could have been funnier from the beginning, I'll just say that off break, could have been funnier from the beginning.
[28:44] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And like, and also knows how to structure like like, like, like, why is there so much happening to where we lose the agrofobia thing.
[28:58] \[SPEAKER_04\]: You know what I mean?
[28:58] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I mean, Granted, she also has to like, fuck it, I'm gonna go out there and get the blah, blah, blah, which took her a second to kind of overcome too, but it's like, you know what I mean, like, you know how to make a, you know how to make a movie, you don't need all that stuff.
[29:11] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I put it on.
[29:12] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I put it on.
[29:13] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I will say, I did feel similar to Drought when like, she was like, please, you gotta go.
[29:20] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Gotta go, she's like, okay, fine, I'm just like, damn, why she gotta do everything for you.
[29:25] \[SPEAKER_04\]: You don't even know you don't even know you did not have to it didn't have to be Like that that part didn't even need to be spoken You know like she didn't need she didn't need to say I will not
[29:40] \[SPEAKER_04\]: let my kid die.
[29:42] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Meaning you have to come get me.
[29:44] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Like, that didn't have to be uttered.
[29:47] \[SPEAKER_04\]: You know, for why is it in there, you know, there's she's sought from the beginning, you know, she was watching for the beginning.
[29:56] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And if she's dealing with her anxiety, this could have been instead of a monologue between the dialogue between the two of them.
[30:04] \[SPEAKER_04\]: She could have gone away and talked herself up or blah, blah, blah, or whatever.
[30:07] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Like, that could have
[30:10] \[SPEAKER_04\]: You better come save me, you know, like I just don't understand, I just don't get why make that choice.
[30:18] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It didn't need to happen.
[30:20] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, what did you guys think about that?
[30:23] \[SPEAKER_02\]: What did you guys think about?
[30:25] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Did you want to pursue talking about his backstory, which was the reason he's into sharks?
[30:30] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Because in his where he grew up, there were river hippopotamus and that was the scariest thing.
[30:40] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And then he saw a river hippo was going to maybe kill him.
[30:44] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But then it got scared and it was scared of a bull shark, which I didn't quite understand why the bull shark didn't go after him.
[30:51] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But anyway, and then the guy was like,
[30:54] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Okay, and then what did you do?
[30:55] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Did you go home and get your spear?
[30:58] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah.
[30:58] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah.
[31:00] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And they didn't just say, home, we said, did you go back to your hut and get your spear?
[31:04] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Grab a spear and then he's like, oh, I went back to my apartment and used my phone to call the cops.
[31:11] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And then ordered a pizza or something, did he say like, oh, keep it with like that I like.
[31:16] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah.
[31:16] \[SPEAKER_01\]: That was literally like, what is this joke?
[31:21] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah.
[31:22] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I saw somebody tweeted that before I seen the movie.
[31:26] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I didn't know where it was from.
[31:27] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I was like, oh, that's weird.
[31:28] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And then we could do that part of the movie.
[31:31] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And it's like, oh, they didn't have that guy die.
[31:34] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I just was, I was like, how is it?
[31:36] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Because to me, guy who literally says, make sure you fill my death, that's his line.
[31:43] \[SPEAKER_04\]: His line is you better make sure that camera's on.
[31:46] \[SPEAKER_04\]: While I'm getting malled to death by sharks, he says that verbatim.
[31:54] \[SPEAKER_04\]: sets that verbatim and then he says this racist joke and then and then he doesn't die.
[32:01] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Like do we think that it got cut for like money or something?
[32:05] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Like that was in the original script and then they were like we would have time for this.
[32:09] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I don't think he wrote it.
[32:10] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I don't think he wrote that.
[32:11] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I don't think he wrote the response to that.
[32:14] \[SPEAKER_03\]: That's crazy.
[32:15] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I don't think he knows.
[32:16] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I think he thought it was a funny joke and I think that was enough.
[32:19] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I was disappointed.
[32:20] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I was also really disappointed
[32:23] \[SPEAKER_02\]: because I wanted it to be more than just that one thing.
[32:25] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Because you thought you were doing up to like the big boss, the whole movie like, oh, shit, she's coming.
[32:31] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And then she just ate the other shark and we never.
[32:34] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I mean, I'm fine with like, if you want to just recreate the dress apart moment, but the thing is, in order to recreate that moment, we need the other moment in Jurassic Park, which is, they are getting chased by a T-Rex, like, they have like the great white shark should also be a threat to them as well.
[32:52] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yes, why wouldn't it be?
[32:54] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Why did it just swim under her legs?
[32:57] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Why would it just swim under her legs?
[33:01] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Why would it just eat her?
[33:02] \[SPEAKER_01\]: They eat people if we know this.
[33:05] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Try at least try it.
[33:07] \[SPEAKER_01\]: We know great white sharks eat people.
[33:10] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I don't.
[33:12] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It didn't make any sense.
[33:13] \[SPEAKER_02\]: They didn't make any sense.
[33:17] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Oh man.
[33:19] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Also, like these bull sharks just like hung around in this area.
[33:21] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Anyway, um, it was the meat.
[33:24] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It was the meat.
[33:25] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It was the meat that I guess would have certainly to when it got eaten in the meat and then like dipped most of me was gone.
[33:32] \[SPEAKER_04\]: No, because it's because it's because it's
[33:34] \[SPEAKER_04\]: because I even wonder if there was meat still in the water, but I think it was like the thought, it's like the smell smells in there, you know?
[33:42] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It's what, it's what they're just feeding.
[33:45] \[SPEAKER_02\]: They just like killed so many humans around there, they were like, oh yeah, there's a lot of food around here.
[33:50] \[SPEAKER_02\]: There's a feeding ground.
[33:51] \[SPEAKER_02\]: A feeding ground?
[33:53] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, the hurricane stopped being a like a problem as well.
[33:58] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I guess that's not true.
[33:59] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I guess like the water was rising in the house collapse.
[34:01] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So that was part of it.
[34:02] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah, the water keeps rising throughout, but the like the storm barreling down becomes less less issue.
[34:12] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And like, I mean, and, you know, like, sort of once it was sort of like everyone was sort of stuck in one spot like what like what crawl has that works for is the like the kind of there are like
[34:30] \[SPEAKER_04\]: This had missions, but like you have various locations that you like, you know, we have to get from here to here and now we have to get from here to here and now you have to get and sometimes it's doubling back and blah, blah, blah.
[34:40] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And like while this had that, it was sort of like,
[34:43] \[SPEAKER_04\]: it was mostly just like one room and the water and that was all you had and that and that to me I think made it feel stagnant in a way.
[34:52] \[SPEAKER_04\]: You know, I think that's part of why I, it's part of why I when I paused it and thought there was so much more left.
[35:00] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It was like, oh no, the movie's almost, the movie's almost, and then almost shortly after that is like right when like the comedy and the like the wrap-up humor starts.
[35:10] \[SPEAKER_04\]: starts.
[35:12] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Um, because they were like, oh, I guess we have to in this, you know, you know, to meet like, like, it's absolutely.
[35:17] \[SPEAKER_02\]: There are so few set pieces.
[35:19] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Like, the kids are like trapped in that house in their house, like the whole time.
[35:24] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Oh, kids.
[35:25] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It's like, it's not that interesting.
[35:27] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And also, like, the other thing that was weird, the other thing that I mean,
[35:36] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I liked the guy coming back.
[35:37] \[SPEAKER_02\]: That was a surprise.
[35:38] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, that was surprising.
[35:40] \[SPEAKER_02\]: That was surprising.
[35:41] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And then they had the scene, I guess, where he like, he's eating, like the shark's eating him.
[35:46] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So he goes like down, he swims down to the basement to try to get a gun and then the shark's down there.
[35:51] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And that's like, you know, a little action piece, I guess.
[35:55] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But like,
[35:56] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I don't know, how did I feel about those kids all together?
[35:59] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I mean, I mean, there it was just.
[36:00] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I feel like today's certain date.
[36:02] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Like, what they did not bother me at first.
[36:07] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I didn't start having an issue with them until, until, uh.
[36:13] \[SPEAKER_04\]: until he came back like like it was fun that he came back but then once he came back I was like what is this sequence like it like like it was like oh we're gonna it felt at first if I like we're just kind of getting world building and we'll kind of see where this goes right but it was but but then it was it it
[36:32] \[SPEAKER_04\]: you know, and I kept starting, you know, I'm, you know, writing the movie in my head.
[36:36] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And so I could take you like, well, who are our sacrifices going to be?
[36:39] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And who are we going to lose?
[36:40] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And where are these moments for like, you know, and like, it felt like there was more interesting stuff they could have done than just bring him back and have to me.
[36:48] \[SPEAKER_04\]: No, okay.
[36:50] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But there was no like a motion.
[36:52] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Oh, there's clearly no emotional story line.
[36:54] \[SPEAKER_02\]: That was really happening between these three kids.
[36:56] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, there wasn't anything like if there was something about like this older, the older boy being like he's an adult now and he's going to be their guardian or like, you know, I don't know.
[37:08] \[SPEAKER_02\]: There could be something there.
[37:10] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Like, yeah, there could have been something with like one of the kids is like, can't swim or I don't know.
[37:15] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I just felt like we could have got anything.
[37:17] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And instead it was just like,
[37:19] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It was pretty much nothing, and then they find the dynamite, and then they do the thrashing thing to blow up the shark.
[37:27] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But it's like, it's only blowing up one shark or worth a bunch of sharks there.
[37:31] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And also, I don't know.
[37:35] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It was also, I don't know this is so small, but it was really funny to me that they throw the dynamite, they get behind a table, and then the blood splatters, but it splatters on them, and I was like, wait a minute.
[37:48] \[SPEAKER_02\]: How was the blood splattering on them?
[37:50] \[SPEAKER_02\]: They're behind it.
[37:51] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Like, I was just like, that doesn't make any sense.
[37:53] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Like, physically, like the blood is coming over.
[37:56] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Like, I could understand if it was dropping on them, but it like splatters on them, literally like if the blood was in front of them, which it wouldn't be because they were getting behind the table to protect themselves from this dynamite blast.
[38:09] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Mm-hmm.
[38:10] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I know that's so small, but I was just like, this is like, this is so lazy, like,
[38:16] \[SPEAKER_02\]: That part was so crazy to me.
[38:19] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I think I, yeah, I feel like the story between the two women was kind of the only storyline I cared about at all.
[38:28] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And I guess I wanted to do something heroic and I feel like they just came.
[38:34] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Like he was just like, we got the deal.
[38:37] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Um, and so I was a little disappointed in that like I want it there to be like I'm glad she had her like they both both women had a her oath moment one literally stabs a shark with a piece of wood in the gut and then Whitney got to shoot the spear gun at the at the right time, but yeah.
[38:54] \[SPEAKER_02\]: She got to use that lesson she learned from her mother.
[38:57] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah, honestly, this is one of those movies where they did a lot and I.
[39:03] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I don't always notice this, but you know, isn't movies that we love and watch.
[39:07] \[SPEAKER_03\]: But at one point, she's telling the other woman about sharks or whatever.
[39:15] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And she goes, oh my uncle studies them, he taught me blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah,
[39:36] \[SPEAKER_02\]: creative and like innovative sequence of the movie was her putting a bunch of vibrating vibrating things and plastic bags putting those out and then her like slowly swimming and seeing those bags go down one by one.
[39:49] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I thought that was like yeah it was probably only like the only thing in this movie that didn't feel like it was just completely ripped from another movie or just absolutely ridiculous and dumb because you're absolutely right dry completely forgot that uh
[40:05] \[SPEAKER_02\]: in a quiet place that she's pregnant and she has to baby at the end of the time.
[40:09] \[SPEAKER_03\]: But also, like that is just so much build up because you see like, sometimes we have to, we establish you can't talk.
[40:14] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Didn't you see them building the the thing to make it so the baby's quiet, totally.
[40:20] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And I noticed when we she didn't have that plan.
[40:22] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And again, I guess I missed a blood in the water.
[40:25] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It was just even at one point when she first went with any first
[40:35] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I've never had a boat just one random sharks like I know what to do.
[40:39] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I'll just hit this bokeh And then up at one point.
[40:43] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I was like why didn't I get on top of the boat?
[40:47] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah I was I will point.
[40:48] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I was eight the boats right, but then I was like maybe I missed him trying to climb up it and I was like Why don't I climb up the boat?
[40:57] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah, not they did.
[40:58] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Well, but then also though, like that happens and almost immediately the birth is happening.
[41:05] \[SPEAKER_04\]: No, no, homeboys on his way, right?
[41:07] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Because it's capsized after it's capsized after the baby's born and then they, and then they, oh yeah, the animal shark is, yeah, yeah, right.
[41:16] \[SPEAKER_04\]: They pan over and, and you know, the rescuers are here.
[41:21] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah.
[41:23] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Like like thousand miles really made me mad.
[41:26] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It like made me mad.
[41:27] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Like I was like It just made me mad and then I was just sort of mad for the rest of the rest of the rest of the Even though like if I can if I can divorce myself from what I had been watching up until that point It's very funny
[41:44] \[SPEAKER_04\]: But within the context of what I had been watching, I was just like, man, that's not what this, you know, like, like, I thought like people could have died, sacrificial deaths, like that was sort of the movie that was set up, like, there could have been genuine.
[41:57] \[SPEAKER_04\]: They're seemingly where genuine stakes and, you know, and people could have, we could have really going on like a kind of deeper emotional journey, and so I was frustrated when that happened.
[42:09] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You know, it really does make me think, like,
[42:14] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Because this is not a well-made film, and we know this.
[42:20] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And viewers, then critics know it.
[42:22] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And viewers, you know, you can't put too much stock into like popcorn meter, but I find it genuinely fascinating that the popcorn meter for this film,
[42:35] \[SPEAKER_02\]: is so low 24% and like, okay, I want to make it so it's five out of 10, which is like, not quite 24% but it's still bad.
[42:43] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Like, most people who are watching this movie are like, I don't think this movie is good.
[42:49] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And, and yet it's like the number one movie and so there's a part of me that's like, is this like, how much of the algorithm is just like
[43:04] \[SPEAKER_02\]: proclaiming that like it's like, well, you're pushing it to the forefront.
[43:09] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So people are clicking on it because they're constantly being advertised it and then if it's anything remotely in the area of like a subject matter that people might want to see then they're going to watch it because they're like, I don't know, I guess it's good because it's the number one movie on Netflix.
[43:27] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah, I mean, the movies after this that were in the suggestions.
[43:30] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I mean, I don't think Jurassic is up there in their top, but, you know, the new Jurassic is there and a condo was there.
[43:38] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Right.
[43:38] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And a couple other movies that were that are like big that like that are that are big enough that like if this is suggested after all of those, you know, even if someone's not watching.
[43:52] \[SPEAKER_04\]: each of those movies enough people are watching those movies that then they might go oh I don't want to see Jurassic I I'll check out thrash or I don't want to see an account I'll check out thrash you know what I mean like yeah it it's it's it was positioned in a way that and those are just the only ones that I could think of but they were they were they were all like all of the titles like jumped out at me it's like interesting titles that you know this really had a good push behind it.
[44:20] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I don't know what's good or bad anymore.
[44:22] \[SPEAKER_03\]: This movie is proving it.
[44:23] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I don't know anything.
[44:24] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I don't know.
[44:27] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I mean, again, most people agree that the movie is bad, but doesn't mean that they don't want to watch it.
[44:34] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And I think that's the interesting.
[44:36] \[SPEAKER_02\]: part.
[44:37] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah.
[44:38] \[SPEAKER_04\]: All right.
[44:38] \[SPEAKER_04\]: When when we were picking the movie, and you were like these are the movies, I had just seen the thrash poster.
[44:45] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And I was like, oh, I think I want to see that.
[44:49] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I got to be on us.
[44:50] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I think I was going to watch this movie, even if we didn't pick it, because I was just like, oh, yeah, it looks like Carl.
[44:58] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I liked Carl.
[44:59] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I think that's literally what my my same
[45:07] \[SPEAKER_02\]: All right, it's time for the cause.
[45:09] \[SPEAKER_02\]: We're rating review films not based on how much we like it, but whether or not it helps the cause of leading black actors and Hollywood.
[45:14] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So if you feel like it fully helps the cause, we give it a black fist.
[45:18] \[SPEAKER_02\]: If it's someone help the cause, we give it a white palm, doesn't help the cause at all.
[45:22] \[SPEAKER_02\]: We don't give it anything.
[45:23] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And a three will lift up our ratings for a thrash.
[45:28] \[SPEAKER_02\]: One, two, three.
[45:33] \[SPEAKER_02\]: All right, one black fist and two, play thought.
[45:36] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I mean, okay.
[45:38] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Are you on duty first?
[45:39] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I made the reason I gave it a black fist, honestly is because 37 million people.
[45:45] \[SPEAKER_02\]: 30, like 37 million views is crazy and that's worldwide and also like, and it's also like,
[45:55] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, so I know that woman from what Bridgetton was also like the co lead, but like, you know, she's like a huge part of this movie had got hero moments, you know, I mean, she was the hero.
[46:06] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And I think it's like the familiarity and like being like, yeah, was yeah, this wasn't a good movie, but like.
[46:14] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I think these are one of these movies where actors can claim like, but, but people like me in it, you know, and maybe, I don't know, it does some, it does some some, so, that's why I get a fist.
[46:28] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Um, I gave it a poem because Whitney was in it and she had a good acting part, but nope, that's why I gave it, I'm sorry, that's why I gave it a poem, that's why I gave it a poem.
[46:42] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah, same.
[46:43] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I mean, like, I think it's being watched, and I think what he's great in it, and I think, but I don't, but I also kind of have some problems in terms of like, like, yes, she's the co-lead, but I think they spend a long time with homegirl in a way that I was like, I don't know if I'm...
[47:07] \[SPEAKER_04\]: If I appreciate that, so yeah, so I gave it a poem for that reason.
[47:12] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I think it's going to keep doing number.
[47:15] \[SPEAKER_04\]: So, you know, it's certainly helping to cause that way.
[47:19] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I guess so.
[47:27] \[UNKNOWN\]: Yeah.
[47:27] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I mean, I can.
[47:27] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I mean.
[47:28] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I don't know how to learn it.
[47:28] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Like, but also, but then what you want to make.
[47:31] \[UNKNOWN\]: Yeah.
[47:33] \[SPEAKER_04\]: This is gonna keep doing numbers.
[47:35] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It being bad doesn't doesn't doesn't matter, right?
[47:39] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I mean right if it's doing the numbers.
[47:42] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I don't know.
[47:44] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Is it doesn't mean more to work and make good work?
[47:47] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I don't know.
[47:48] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Because not working isn't fun, but maybe you make work that gives me.
[47:52] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And worry about the quality of the work later.
[47:55] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Is your work in?
[47:57] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah, all right, well, this film Berkshire off and really did, it's just like I see these movies and like I feel like people put it on in the background and like we're all okay with it being very mid and
[48:20] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It's like, how do we okay with mediocrity?
[48:23] \[SPEAKER_04\]: There is definitely a place for mid-movies, definitely, you know, and like, and like, this one sticks certain landings, not a lot, but certain landings that I think might stick, keep getting people, keep having people watch.
[48:41] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I think, you're not wrong, you're not wrong.
[48:45] \[SPEAKER_02\]: All right, well, thank you guys so much for listening.

[51:00] \[SPEAKER_03\]: No.
[51:00] \[SPEAKER_03\]: That was a fun.
