Together, they discuss their own romantic obsessions, whether or not the film is commenting on sexism or enacting it, the level of discourse around the film happening on Threads.com, what a serious take on the film's subject matter might actually look like, Inde Navarrette clearly being a breakout star, and much, much more! ## Transcript

[0:07] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Here's the thing, James.
[0:08] \[SPEAKER_00\]: We never introduced the guest during a cold open, but that's right, we don't.
[0:12] \[SPEAKER_00\]: There's a little bit of synergy here because our guest is the host of a podcast, classroom crush and cause I kind of wanted to talk about,
[0:26] \[SPEAKER_00\]: You know, yes.
[0:27] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Have you ever felt like you've been like obsessed with someone like like a strong and we can do many episodes of the guest's podcast as our cold open.
[0:38] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I mean, I don't know how many because I'll get in there.
[0:41] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I'll be intrigued and I want to know more.
[0:46] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Okay, what's the most you've been because because I have, I have, I'm not, I don't know how much I'm going to talk about it, and I don't know how much I talked about it on your show.
[0:56] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You probably told me, I probably know all about it.
[0:59] \[SPEAKER_00\]: But yeah, like I have been like,
[1:03] \[SPEAKER_00\]: like, very infatuated with the person before, or short line obsession with somebody who ultimately never reciprocated that.
[1:17] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Not even a registration, really.
[1:19] \[SPEAKER_00\]: You know, and so familiar familiar territory, but I wanted to know if you guys have been, well,
[1:31] \[SPEAKER_02\]: That's correct.
[1:33] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Men first as they say.
[1:34] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Well, show.
[1:35] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Sure.
[1:36] \[SPEAKER_02\]: No one says as as out and I'm saying first, I'm pretty sure they're saying that's what society is.
[1:46] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I'm like, I'm here in it.
[1:47] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I'm seeing it in mirror.
[1:49] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Please, please.
[1:53] \[SPEAKER_01\]: And so you know, I, I'll, I think the, the, the clearest answer to this.
[1:59] \[SPEAKER_01\]: is yes, yes, I have, but I think the reality is they were, they're all people who, like, it wasn't that it never reciprocated.
[2:08] \[SPEAKER_01\]: It was that, like, either we tried something and it didn't, and then then that didn't work, reached its peak or expired.
[2:16] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Sure.
[2:17] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You know.
[2:18] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah.
[2:19] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You put yourself out there, you tried?
[2:20] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah, I tried.
[2:23] \[SPEAKER_00\]: But was there build up before the trying, I guess.
[2:27] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Yeah, I mean, like, you know, like it was, it, it, it, it's fully understand that like my that the like opening monologue of this like my heart and this and maybe they maybe they'll think it and maybe they and maybe they don't like I fully understand that but usually like I like I have had the like
[2:50] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I'm not I'm not I don't have the most game.
[2:52] \[SPEAKER_01\]: So like I can't like becoming out to be I'm like I'm scared To do stuff like that, but I fall in into relationships with those people You fall in into okay, I'm lucky him.
[3:04] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Hey To weigh yeah, men just falling into their dreams just
[3:10] \[SPEAKER_01\]: drape scene tripping into well like I said they didn't work out after where you know like I wasn't doing enough I I certainly wasn't vocal enough, you know I certainly wasn't expressing the right things at the right times and so when they were over it was like why do we say this
[3:29] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Well, yeah, why didn't you say, you know, it's your care so I'm a man.
[3:35] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Because I'm a piece of shit, man, I'll say it.
[3:38] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I'll fall in line and say that because and that will be the theme of that episode.
[3:42] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I don't think you guys know.
[3:45] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Indeed indeed, but or so, so we're about to have you have you had.
[3:50] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Have I been obsessed with work?
[3:53] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Have you been obsessed before?
[3:56] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Um, obviously listen, but here's the thing, but like, you know, there's, well, like, I see, I, I registered sometimes now.
[4:07] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I'm like, don't say it like that, where because little be like blah, blah, blah, but yeah, I mean, I'm pretty much obsessed with him, whatever.
[4:14] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And it's like, I'm not obsessed, actually, but it will, you know, like,
[4:22] \[SPEAKER_03\]: when it's so intense and then the moments the memories strike you in a way that well here's the thing also I only recently had a therapist so so so we're not talking cycles like you know the expensive analysis um that they cost thousands of dollars but I did do a classic ADHD assessment with a therapist recently of which I got the results of that made me laugh so much what was it um I keep forgetting it always makes me laugh
[4:51] \[SPEAKER_02\]: um, clinically, clinically significant, clinically significant results.
[4:57] \[SPEAKER_03\]: The results were clinically significant.
[5:00] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Oh, you see.
[5:01] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yes, they're likely to look at this.
[5:03] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I'm going to get into your voice.
[5:04] \[SPEAKER_02\]: They're like, they're significant.
[5:06] \[SPEAKER_02\]: They're significant.
[5:06] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Flying colors.
[5:08] \[SPEAKER_02\]: We got to tell the clinicians.
[5:11] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, when the feeling of a session comes over, I'm like, oh, it's actually because I'm, I'm like, a shagner of spicy.
[5:21] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Now they're all saying that and everybody loves it.
[5:24] \[SPEAKER_02\]: We're all saying it and everybody is it.
[5:26] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But no, I'm also just like, see.
[5:28] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Because my thing is am I obsessed or am I a visionary, right?
[5:34] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Am I obsessed or do I just do out am I a writer?
[5:37] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Okay, do I conjure an image quickly in my mind.
[5:40] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And we're still talking about romantic partners, right?
[5:43] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yes.
[5:44] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I'm like, well, like, like, okay, like I'll say, okay, this one I was obsessed with this one I will say this was kind of like, like I did have a sexual experience with a man in a time.
[5:57] \[SPEAKER_03\]: There was a moment of obsession because it was like, well, he's the father of my children, I think.
[6:02] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Like, where I'm like, I would have a flash of an image of him holding my unborn child against skin to skin, just because we had such what a wonderful time together.
[6:13] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And in that way, that was kind of obsession because I was obsessed with like,
[6:19] \[SPEAKER_02\]: What that that experience or whatever and like things that ultimately were never there, you know what I'm saying like this is where it's like True, we're dilulu and like I'm like, yeah, I can we could we can be married even if he doesn't like movies You know, I'm like laughing at myself He's like
[6:42] \[SPEAKER_03\]: everyone's different and for love, you know, but that's where I recall one of the best songs, no S.A.M.
[6:49] \[SPEAKER_02\]: or S.O.P.O.P.O.P.O.P.O.P.O.P.O.P.O.P.O.P.O.P.O.P.O.P.O.P.O.P.O.P.O.P.O.P.O.P.O.P.O.P.O.P.O.P.O.P.O.P.O.P.O.P.O.P.O.P.O.P.O.P.O.P.O.P.O.P.O.P.O.P.O.P.O.P.O.P.O.P.O.P.O.P.O.P.O.P.O.P.O.P.O.P.O.P.O
[7:00] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And now I bring them up and now I can't remember what they're called.
[7:02] \[SPEAKER_03\]: They're Spanish.
[7:03] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Fuck.
[7:04] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I've entoured.
[7:06] \[SPEAKER_03\]: They have incredible ad libs where they go.
[7:09] \[SPEAKER_03\]: They go something special, something flavor.
[7:13] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I've entoured.
[7:14] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And they have an amazing song about where he's he's talking about his love and whatever and then the girlie comes in with the with the chorus.
[7:23] \[SPEAKER_03\]: She says no
[7:29] \[SPEAKER_01\]: And this was a profound distinction to be grinding to talk about finding the class throw back to Jonathan's pattern crash cross promo and there I have a question about that also too right because like has now i'm starting to think like like Is are we talking like lust being in lust?
[7:50] \[SPEAKER_01\]: someone and obsession are they also the same thing or is there a distinction they're too depends on your gender or you depends on why you're gender.
[8:02] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I think that less on its own does not have to be a session, but like lust becomes a session when you can't get that thing off your mind.
[8:13] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah, or when it comes to the stress.
[8:17] \[SPEAKER_01\]: There's more people.
[8:18] \[SPEAKER_01\]: There's now more.
[8:18] \[SPEAKER_01\]: There's now more on that list.
[8:23] \[SPEAKER_01\]: The time for that kind of assessment.
[8:24] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Yeah, just social media.
[8:25] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Yeah.
[8:26] \[SPEAKER_01\]: You scroll in, you know what I mean?
[8:27] \[SPEAKER_01\]: You scroll in, you get you, and then you, and then there's certain you're like, oh, man, you mean, and then, you know, you're like, do I want to turn on notifications for this?
[8:34] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I'm not going to do that.
[8:36] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But do I want to do that?
[8:37] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But that's no, that's love.
[8:37] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But do you know what I mean?
[8:38] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Level of zest.
[8:39] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Now, now you want it a bit.
[8:41] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You know, that's true.
[8:42] \[SPEAKER_03\]: That's so sad.
[8:42] \[SPEAKER_03\]: There's a boundary that must be crossed because I'm like, I'm for love, okay, crush it up and like, and I think you can even be de-dreaming and delu-lu and a crush before it's become obsession, you know?
[8:55] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Obsession is now, now, what am I without it, empty?
[9:02] \[SPEAKER_03\]: This is what we have to consider.
[9:03] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Can you give me one second?
[9:04] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Cause I have to absolutely slide this door.
[9:06] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Oh yeah.
[9:08] \[SPEAKER_03\]: When you have a door open for the slide, for the slide door because of the wind, but then a man's being really loud and distracting you, what a metaphor for where we're also going to go into.
[9:21] \[SPEAKER_02\]: As I take over the podcast, I was saying, yeah, I've been distracted that whole time, even you could not even tell that men were trying to distract me.
[9:31] \[SPEAKER_02\]: This is how much multi women have to multi-pask and be multi-hifinits in this world daily.
[9:38] \[SPEAKER_01\]: But then that's why men need to be making a wishes because they can't read.
[9:43] \[SPEAKER_01\]: They can't tell what a woman is feeling.
[9:45] \[SPEAKER_01\]: So they can't make the wishes.
[9:47] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Instead, you're gonna say all the stinkers.
[9:51] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I'm just saying I understand why they'd be making the wishes.
[9:53] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I see what you're saying.
[9:54] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I see the connection you're making.
[9:56] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Because it's like a man, a man is so, he doesn't even know what's going on at all.
[9:59] \[SPEAKER_02\]: He's got to make a wish.
[10:00] \[SPEAKER_02\]: He can't tell.
[10:01] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Right.
[10:02] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Yeah, he's got to make the wish.
[10:05] \[SPEAKER_02\]: He tied it together.
[10:08] \[SPEAKER_00\]: be fun if usher made a song called this is my obsession.
[10:13] \[SPEAKER_00\]: No, I'm not going to accept that.
[10:15] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I'm going to accept that.
[10:17] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I'm going to accept that as a transition into that.
[10:19] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I'm going to accept either of this.
[10:22] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Denied, access.
[10:22] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Denied.
[10:23] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Maybe you have to try to get maybe you have to sing.
[10:28] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Okay, my last.
[10:29] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Yeah, okay, here we go.
[10:30] \[SPEAKER_00\]: What did it be fun if usher made a song cut?
[10:33] \[SPEAKER_00\]: This is my obsession.
[10:36] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It kind of still didn't work because of how the dude was the joke was only wouldn't and this is also going to come up in my notes because the joke was kind of wouldn't it be fun if you know what I mean I don't have a perspective beyond what if you know what I'm saying not to be hard on you.
[10:52] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I'm more projecting my early feelings upon the movie of which this is a little preview.
[10:57] \[SPEAKER_00\]: It sounds like somebody has an obsession with this movie.
[11:04] \[SPEAKER_01\]: What, what do we, yeah, what's like the show?
[11:07] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Woo!
[11:08] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I'm excited.
[11:09] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I'm excited.

[11:59] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Oh, the whole story.
[12:00] \[SPEAKER_00\]: The whole story.
[12:01] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Oh, my god.
[12:02] \[SPEAKER_01\]: That was crazy.
[12:04] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Uh, tape a like a monologue.
[12:05] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I'm tape a like a tape.
[12:07] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Tradition.
[12:07] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Okay.
[12:08] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I guess we hold how many people are going to be doing that as.
[12:11] \[SPEAKER_01\]: So I'm not a little girl.
[12:13] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Absolutely.
[12:14] \[SPEAKER_00\]: So many little girls.
[12:15] \[SPEAKER_00\]: It's going to be fun.
[12:16] \[SPEAKER_00\]: So guys, I'm very excited for this episode.
[12:21] \[SPEAKER_00\]: For those of you who are listening for the first time, welcome.
[12:24] \[SPEAKER_00\]: This is a film review podcast.
[12:27] \[SPEAKER_00\]: We review the films of leading actors of color.
[12:32] \[SPEAKER_00\]: We talk about them in the context of race and diversity in Hollywood.
[12:36] \[SPEAKER_00\]: There are three of us that's usually host this podcast.
[12:38] \[SPEAKER_00\]: One of us that's not here today, Jera, is I forgot what he's doing.
[12:42] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Working, something.
[12:45] \[SPEAKER_01\]: He's a, yeah, he's working.
[12:47] \[SPEAKER_00\]: He's working.
[12:48] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I think he like had a shoot or has a shoot or a man.
[12:51] \[SPEAKER_01\]: He was a prep day.
[12:53] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Whatever it was, it was, he's like not doing the exact thing right, but it's that he's either coming into the thing or coming out of the thing that he couldn't be here today.
[13:03] \[SPEAKER_03\]: He's a liminal space.
[13:05] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Yes, this voice, this voice that you're hearing right now is one that belongs to a man who
[13:13] \[SPEAKER_00\]: who realized, who saw thanks to an incredible amount of amazing women in his life, how he could have at one point diverged down the pathway of a bear.
[13:27] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And it's very glad.
[13:28] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And it's very glad.
[13:29] \[SPEAKER_00\]: It's very glad he did not.
[13:30] \[SPEAKER_01\]: That's the point.
[13:31] \[SPEAKER_01\]: It's still trying to break a piece of wood right now.
[13:32] \[SPEAKER_01\]: It's still trying to break a piece of wood right now.
[13:34] \[SPEAKER_01\]: It's still trying to break a piece of wood right now.
[13:39] \[SPEAKER_01\]: And then this, I'll say this voice who probably would have made of a really bad wish, who would have missed every sign, who would have missed every potential sign, who would have, who would have been handed an opportunity to just speak his mind, and then do the absolute worst possible thing he could do immediately after, because he didn't speak his mind that that voice is, is James.
[14:03] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Mmm.
[14:03] \[SPEAKER_01\]: First for sure.
[14:04] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Well, I think for sure.
[14:06] \[SPEAKER_00\]: We have an incredible guest with us today.
[14:09] \[SPEAKER_00\]: You've heard her voice already, but she is a writer and actress, the host of the podcast, Ashroom Crush, which I guess also, able to guest her.
[14:22] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Thanks for your time.
[14:24] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Mm-hmm.
[14:25] \[SPEAKER_00\]: You can see her shout-out online, you know?
[14:28] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And if you want, please welcome everyone, Rebecca.
[14:35] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Ooh, I did tell you to say that I was shutting online, but that I promptly forgot that I told you it's not a maybe one.
[14:42] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I can't remember.
[14:42] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Amazing.
[14:45] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Yeah, thank you so much for being here.
[14:49] \[SPEAKER_00\]: We are going to talk about the film obsession, which is undeniably a cultural touchstone movie.
[15:00] \[SPEAKER_00\]: has an incredible story and a lot of people I'm sure have heard of it because it kind of very famously was shot for budget of reportedly $750,000.
[15:12] \[SPEAKER_00\]: It currently has grossed $442 million.
[15:22] \[SPEAKER_01\]: in the box office.
[15:23] \[SPEAKER_00\]: So let's go.
[15:24] \[SPEAKER_00\]: It's currently streaming on peacock.
[15:27] \[SPEAKER_00\]: However, it is still in movie theaters and just this past weekend was number seven, you know.
[15:34] \[SPEAKER_00\]: So it's like people are literally still seeing it.
[15:36] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Hill in the top 10.
[15:38] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Wow.
[15:39] \[SPEAKER_00\]: It stars indie and then I'm not sure if I'm pronouncing her last name right, but no, never read there.
[15:46] \[SPEAKER_00\]: that's how I'm going to pay sounds good to me.
[15:50] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I like it.
[15:51] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I like it.
[15:51] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I'm listening as Nicky.
[15:53] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Indie is a mixed race Mexican and I think her father or mother, you know, her father is somebody's Australian her father is Mexican.
[16:06] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Her mother is Australian.
[16:08] \[SPEAKER_02\]: That's the way.
[16:09] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Okay.
[16:11] \[SPEAKER_02\]: All right.
[16:12] \[SPEAKER_02\]: We're going, well, I'm in a way.
[16:13] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I'm going to wait.
[16:16] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You're doing a thing.
[16:17] \[SPEAKER_01\]: You're doing your thing her birthday is March 3rd My birthday is famously March 2nd Famously March 2nd
[16:30] \[SPEAKER_00\]: It also stars Michael Johnston as Bear, Cooper Tomlinson plays Ian Cooper is a part of the sketch duo with the director, Curry Baker, who wrote and directed this film.
[16:47] \[SPEAKER_00\]: sketch, sketch duo.
[16:50] \[SPEAKER_00\]: So that's another part of the reason of the kind of lore of this movie.
[16:55] \[SPEAKER_00\]: We'll talk about other stuff, but just some other facts.
[16:59] \[SPEAKER_00\]: It is currently sitting at a 94% on Rotten Tomatoes.
[17:12] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And it first premiered actually at the Toronto Film Festival the last year and then it came out in May of this year and again it's still in theaters.
[17:22] \[SPEAKER_00\]: All right.
[17:24] \[SPEAKER_00\]: We're gonna go, and it is, and it is the talk of a lot of, down, I don't even know, I don't even think, I don't know if it's controversies the right word, but it is still to this day, I don't know if, I mean, I guess it's part of my own algorithm, but I still see the like tweets and threads popping up.
[17:42] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, it just scores.
[17:43] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Yeah, it just scores.
[17:44] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Discourse, a lot of discourse about this movie.
[17:49] \[SPEAKER_00\]: So Rebecca, you are our guest.
[17:52] \[SPEAKER_00\]: We're gonna do initial thoughts.
[17:54] \[SPEAKER_00\]: What are your initial thoughts of the film obsession?
[17:57] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Oh, oh!
[18:01] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Oh Now I'm just gonna say up top.
[18:03] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I'm sorry the burst enemy bubbles out here.
[18:06] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Okay This is I Okay, I'm gonna try to keep a brief you said by preliminary thoughts I'm so hard, but I have a lot of notes Okay, yo, but I'll say you just like I'll give you notes duck
[18:23] \[SPEAKER_03\]: it's a lot.
[18:24] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I'll give you the two.
[18:26] \[SPEAKER_03\]: How about I give you the two bolded ones that I kind of like I'm like, I'm like, I guess this is a thesis.
[18:31] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Okay, the one is I hate the genre of white male mediocrity that is just wouldn't it be crazy if question mark question mark with no perspective at all on life, no pondering, no questions.
[18:44] \[SPEAKER_03\]: That's my first one.
[18:45] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And my second one is the movie is
[18:52] \[SPEAKER_03\]: and you die a hero, never have to face what you've done, and isn't that a tail as old as time?
[18:58] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Oh, so yeah, my issues were...
[19:04] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Okay, this movie is bitches be crazy.
[19:05] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I, okay.
[19:07] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I get it.
[19:08] \[SPEAKER_02\]: This movie is bitches be crazy the movie and, and, and, and I am worth it about that.
[19:15] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But yeah, I was, was it scary?
[19:17] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Was I spooked?
[19:18] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Sure, I was spooked in some moments in the, in the, in the, the appropriate moments to be spooked.
[19:23] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Um, but was the trick always that, hey, man, this bitch is being crazy.
[19:27] \[SPEAKER_03\]: But isn't she being crazy in a way that's like hashtag relatable?
[19:31] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Boys don't you hate it when bitches be like, okay, I don't know how long I'm supposed to go.
[19:36] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But these are my, these are no, this is what's going to code the review of the analysis.
[19:45] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, I was shocked.
[19:46] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I was shocked that that's what the movie that that's what it was.
[19:50] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I mean, not shocked, but you know, but I was like, Oh, just this.
[19:53] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Okay, I'm sure.
[19:55] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I want to go.
[19:58] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Next.
[19:59] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Is that okay.
[20:00] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Because I'm glad you said this because I saw this movie like pretty like I don't think it's all opening weekend, but I saw it like in theaters like close to it's really it's probably like second weekend or whatever right.
[20:11] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And this is fresh and I was very fresh and I was very fresh and I'm assuming you haven't been engaging in the
[20:18] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Not really, like I saw a picture of the guy for the first time, like last week, I saw some stuff about the art department stuff, right, or like the the crew, the pace stuff.
[20:28] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Oh, yeah, but I haven't really seen it, yeah, I haven't really delved into the discourse because I haven't, yeah, great, haven't you're right.
[20:36] \[SPEAKER_00\]: That is a part of the discourse though.
[20:38] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Um, so it's so interesting that that so.
[20:43] \[SPEAKER_00\]: My read on the movie is different and I saw with my friend Matt and Kate if they're they're married and Matt and I were on the same page and we had a different read and Kate came out and was like Exactly what you said when we walk out the movie she was so she was so live it and she was like oh, this movie is about this and this and this and we were like oh
[21:07] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Yeah.
[21:07] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Wait, that's what you got from it.
[21:08] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Like, that's not what we got.
[21:10] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And so it's interesting to know that I like pay your not own girl.
[21:16] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah.
[21:17] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And I imagine that there is probably.
[21:21] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Uh, oh, actually, okay.
[21:22] \[SPEAKER_00\]: It's pretty, pretty Skylar felt the same way.
[21:27] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Hey, oh.
[21:28] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Okay, and that's great.
[21:29] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Okay, so the part of me was wondering if it was a gender thing.
[21:35] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Um, and maybe it is, yeah, maybe it's a skews more women's feet.
[21:37] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I'm sure on a scale, yeah.
[21:40] \[SPEAKER_00\]: My thing is though, and this is the conversation we had when we left the movie theater, it was, I was like, I was like, oh.
[21:47] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I understand why you feel like that's what the movie is saying, but I think the movie is literally saying the exact opposite.
[21:58] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Yeah, yeah.
[21:59] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I think Bear is a hundred percent not a hero in this film.
[22:03] \[SPEAKER_00\]: He is the villain.
[22:04] \[SPEAKER_00\]: No.
[22:05] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And that there are, there are, and I, because I got to rewatch it, I was like, it's like, I've, I've,
[22:13] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I'm almost positive that is the intention of the filmmaker.
[22:18] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Now we can talk about whether or not they executed it well enough for that to come out.
[22:22] \[SPEAKER_00\]: But I think that the reality of the society we live in, like to me this movie was a Trojan horse.
[22:30] \[SPEAKER_00\]: It was like coming, it was it was created in this form of like
[22:36] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Like, man, wouldn't it be crazed?
[22:38] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Wouldn't it be so scary if you wanted the girl that you loved to love you back?
[22:43] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And then she became so obsessed with you that she was a freaking crazy psycho and you have to deal with that?
[22:49] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And like so many moments in the movie, you think that's what's gonna happen.
[22:53] \[SPEAKER_00\]: But then,
[22:54] \[SPEAKER_00\]: in reality the movie is like kind of doing this underhanded subtle undercutting of it by being like, no, the person who is obsessed is him.
[23:04] \[SPEAKER_00\]: He's the one who is obsessed.
[23:06] \[SPEAKER_00\]: He makes this unethical, unethical wish.
[23:10] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Then he, you know, continues to show that he's horrible, horrible person by not wanting to take the wish, not really wanting to take the wish back.
[23:19] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Like the thing that he's upset about is not
[23:21] \[SPEAKER_02\]: She's not loving him the right way.
[23:24] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Is that she's being weird or whatever?
[23:26] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And it's like very much like a skewering of like in-sell ideology and culture and behavior and that kind of thing.
[23:34] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And like he like gets, he's like, he doesn't know what he wants.
[23:37] \[SPEAKER_00\]: So that being said, because I think it's told through the protagonist.
[23:42] \[SPEAKER_00\]: The protagonist is the white male, is the guy.
[23:46] \[SPEAKER_00\]: It feels like because in movies, we're supposed to be on the side of the protagonist.
[23:52] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And I think that maybe is where the intentions are being muddied.
[23:57] \[SPEAKER_00\]: But when I watch this again, thinking like, this is how what I got from the first time, I was like, oh, there's so many moments in here that it's so clear that he's the bad guy and that she's the,
[24:10] \[SPEAKER_00\]: victim and like he's not supposed to be a hero at the end.
[24:13] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Like even in his even in his moment where he's supposed to kill himself, you know, a spoiler alert.
[24:20] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Oh yeah.
[24:21] \[SPEAKER_00\]: By the way, we're going to be spoiling this film for people who haven't seen it on peacock.
[24:27] \[SPEAKER_00\]: So go watch it if you have, but also see it in theaters because it's still in theaters.
[24:31] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Yeah, see it in theaters.
[24:33] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Anyway, so all that said,
[24:39] \[SPEAKER_00\]: It's just, it'll save them specifically, specifically, I think that Indy like her performance in this movie kind of makes the movie and like is out of this world, I thought so that was my initial piece of incredible.
[24:56] \[SPEAKER_00\]: James.
[24:57] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Yeah, I'll just just going up with that.
[24:59] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Indies a huge star.
[25:01] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I cannot wait for every single thing she does.
[25:05] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I mean, I know she's done plenty before now.
[25:07] \[SPEAKER_01\]: And I watch some of Superman and let's see if I see some are already.
[25:11] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Okay.
[25:12] \[SPEAKER_01\]: But, um, but, and 13 reasons why I didn't watch that.
[25:16] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Oh, she's a reason for my own 13 after 13 reasons why I didn't watch 13.
[25:21] \[SPEAKER_01\]: She was in season four.
[25:22] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Oh, I was like, I was like, there's no way she's in the earlier seasons of that show.
[25:26] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I can't believe they made four.
[25:27] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Yeah.
[25:27] \[SPEAKER_00\]: She wasn't in that show.
[25:28] \[SPEAKER_02\]: That's crazy.
[25:30] \[SPEAKER_00\]: It's absurd.
[25:31] \[SPEAKER_01\]: But but I I loved it and I'm in the camp of bear is is a full unveiling like when she after she kills Sarah and she goes this is all your fault, I was like, yes, you know, and he doesn't
[25:49] \[SPEAKER_01\]: record, I don't think he recognizes ever that any of these things are in spault or ever like or even when he decides to kill himself after everyone is dead.
[25:59] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I mean, you know, does he, does he, does he wreck ever actually reconcile with with with that?
[26:06] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I'll just put it in the only context that I had for how the movie was going to go was my friend told me that it's a mean movie the movie's mean and I think it is me, I think it's pretty mean to it's pretty mean to indies character but everyone in all of the other kind of collateral damage around that though to me it's like is all
[26:29] \[SPEAKER_01\]: It is all to, to, to stoke the flame under what's going, what bear did.
[26:34] \[SPEAKER_01\]: And so for that, I appreciate it.
[26:36] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I had more fun watching it than I thought I was going to have.
[26:40] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Yeah, I, I, I love the shadow work.
[26:43] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I love like how much is done wins with shadows and and and indies like ability to shift on a dime from line to line like all of that kind of
[26:56] \[SPEAKER_01\]: of characterization was like was truly remarkable.
[26:59] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I don't know much.
[27:00] \[SPEAKER_01\]: She got paid for the so it was $750 budget, but like I just I genuinely like I'm so thrilled for whatever else happens after this for her.
[27:11] \[SPEAKER_01\]: That Clive did a Clive.
[27:12] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I keep want to say Clive Barker.
[27:14] \[SPEAKER_01\]: But Curry, Barker, different horror director.
[27:17] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Gary did a fun job.
[27:20] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I'm I'm having my thoughts about like you know these comedy directors directing horror and and like what that is doing and and and and I have my own kind of relationship to that as you know we're all kind of people here, but you know having my own relationship to how I feel about that, but
[27:39] \[SPEAKER_01\]: But like I was on the ride and I and I and I had a great time excited to talk about it more specifically.
[27:45] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I'm super interested in the the the bitches be crazy taken.
[27:50] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I got what I mean if I if I if I did miss something because like because like every time because in my read every time he goes Will you stop acting like that?
[27:59] \[SPEAKER_01\]: It's like what do you?
[28:01] \[SPEAKER_01\]: You're an idiot like, okay, what are you talking about you made this with all this stuff is happening because of what you do like it's so it's why it's what it's wild
[28:12] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Well, there's a thing like, I agree.
[28:16] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I don't disagree that he is like obviously the villain and like there are enough moments that are, well, that's a thing, enough is a, maybe I take that word back, but like there are moments that are like very explicitly, you know, him making the choice to, you know, like him being bad, you know, pretty pretty out loud at this guy's bad.
[28:38] \[SPEAKER_03\]: But my issue is the positionality of like, even though it's not painting him as a hero, he still does save her.
[28:50] \[SPEAKER_03\]: He saves her by killing himself.
[28:53] \[SPEAKER_03\]: When in, because that's how she is saved, that's how she is released, right?
[28:57] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Nikki, the girl like when she is freed is because he dies,
[29:03] \[SPEAKER_03\]: say he still gets to that's the narrative is he makes the choice to self-sacrifice when here's my thing and this is not to be fucking dark.
[29:12] \[SPEAKER_03\]: What do you disagree?
[29:14] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Yeah, I do do think she's do think she saved at the end because she did kill three What do you I don't think he makes the choice the kill him?
[29:23] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I think he was like going to do it and then he chickened out and then she makes the wish the wish right the the like she makes the wish that he would be obsessed with her
[29:34] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Right.
[29:34] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yes.
[29:35] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And that's, and that prevents him from saving himself, but that is what he was going to do.
[29:41] \[SPEAKER_00\]: He wasn't going to kill himself.
[29:42] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Like I think to me the read of that is like he was like, I think I had to do this, but then he was like, no, I'm going to do it.
[29:49] \[SPEAKER_01\]: He wasn't going to, you think that like that.
[29:51] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I agree he was having the doubt because he starts to, yeah, yeah, yeah.
[29:56] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah, no, 100% she makes the wish that's when he goes out to her.
[29:59] \[SPEAKER_03\]: That's even 100% that.
[30:02] \[SPEAKER_03\]: No, I think that that's my take of it, but my thing is like, okay, I don't know how to say it without like whatever is like dark, but like I do think it's true that like if you want to really question and interrogate and represent like this sort of in cell toxic culture, let's be fucking honest and let's be brave and I'll tell you the brave and honest thing is that if
[30:33] \[SPEAKER_03\]: This where if this were like true, if we were being really fucking honest about how a situation like this would go down
[30:39] \[SPEAKER_03\]: There's no way in fucking hell that he is not killing her before he even considers killing himself because let's be like I'm like domestic partner violence is like that shit leads into real violence.
[30:56] \[SPEAKER_03\]: There's the whole time I'm like this guy would just fucking shoot her.
[31:00] \[SPEAKER_03\]: He would kill her because no matter what, whatever the rule is, if she's dead, she's no
[31:07] \[SPEAKER_03\]: He would kill her and entitle me over her body.
[31:10] \[SPEAKER_03\]: He already entails, she's already been, and frankly, I'm like, he better rapist from the start.
[31:17] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Like, you know, you know what you're doing, like, like, this is, and that is where I'm like, this is a not, this is my issue when I talk about like white male mediocrity of what if when that I see a lot in the comedy world and then I see it bleed into other spaces,
[31:37] \[SPEAKER_03\]: They get close to examining the toxic max masculinity.
[31:42] \[SPEAKER_03\]: They think they're putting a mirror to it by showing just like the ugly, like what they think is ugly, like yelling and zero to sixty threshold or whatever or like this, like in cell obsession, like whatever.
[31:56] \[SPEAKER_03\]: But it never actually goes to where
[32:00] \[SPEAKER_03\]: For me, it is like art or impactful or for real.
[32:05] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And I'm like, does every fucking piece of art have to be about like abuse and domestic violence?
[32:09] \[SPEAKER_03\]: No, but if you want to step into these waters, and if you especially also want to, and this is like in this same line where I'm like, you can think you're having these spots and these, you know,
[32:27] \[SPEAKER_03\]: like points about toxic masculinity and like whatever.
[32:31] \[SPEAKER_03\]: But then when you also have like, here's just a shot of a naked, dead woman's body and her face is all fucking bashed up and here's her fucking full tits and bush.
[32:43] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You're doing the thing at the same time as you're trying to comment on it.
[32:49] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It's all a fucking decentralization to violence against woman and women, frankly.
[32:56] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And here's where I'm like, I don't want to be so serious about everything, but it just kind of is in my opinion, where I'm like, the context in which this movie is being put out into the world, the environment that we have, I'm like, I see it in the same way that I see fucking love island perpetuating abuse.
[33:15] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I'm like, these things are working in tandem, okay, we're normalizing a lot of really disgusting, vital stuff at the same time.
[33:25] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And, and this is what I'm like not to get in my bag about my supremacy all the damn time, but I'm just like But what does it also mean for fucking 21 year old curry barker whatever and I don't know the guy from beyond this.
[33:40] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I really I don't know his stuff
[33:43] \[SPEAKER_03\]: was a mean that this movie is being and this guy is being so loaded as a fucking genius that as the wave.
[33:56] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Because I'm just like, because you know it's so funny, even before I actually watch the movie.
[34:01] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And this was part of the reason I didn't even wanna watch the movie.
[34:03] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It was like, well, because I also am scared.
[34:06] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Because I'm, I'm scared you can't.
[34:08] \[SPEAKER_03\]: But, and it was scary.
[34:10] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Like, I do not deny the efficacy of the horror.
[34:13] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Like, that's not, I'm not denying any of that.
[34:15] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And,
[34:16] \[SPEAKER_03\]: and what they could do in the budget and everything.
[34:18] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Like all of that, the technical stuff is there for me.
[34:22] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And that's what always becomes so frustrating to me when it's like this fucking guy who thinks he's saying something, but I don't think he's fucking saying something because it's like, how do you respect woman in your movie?
[34:35] \[SPEAKER_03\]: How is your gaze being put on them?
[34:37] \[SPEAKER_03\]: That shot of the woman with the fucking dead bodies tells me everything I need to know, you know, especially because I know that girl got like,
[34:46] \[SPEAKER_03\]: to be to, here's my whole last body, you know what I'm saying?
[34:49] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And so when you have this and you're like, here is the pedestal and this is what we should aspire to, to me that is white, white guy who gets to talk about stuff with women stuff and, and, and, and, and because here, okay, and I will stop in a second because the whole, the whole time I'm watching this and not to be whatever, but,
[35:13] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Like I'm just like y'all don't even wanna see my version of this fucking movie because I'm like as I'm a woman who has been in an abusive relationship with a man who has self harmed and all of these certain way like dynamics quite similar all of these things and it's like bro if you if I made this movie from the woman's perspective like
[35:38] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It will be scary like do scary like scary in a bad way because it will be do fucking if it would be real It would be just real you know I'm saying and what do you say that what do you mean?
[35:47] \[SPEAKER_00\]: You're talking about you would see like literal physical violence against or what do you what do you mean?
[35:53] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You because the thing is is like it's just simply not that much of a fucking stretch.
[35:58] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It's not that much of a stretch
[36:01] \[SPEAKER_03\]: the way that her, the wish makes her do all of these things and be all this crazy when I'm like, this is just low key, a reality for many people and I will say abusive relationships across the board.
[36:19] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I think women can perpetuate abuse, but I think that men can also, and this is in the same way.
[36:24] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I'm like, yeah, when the boyfriend starts throwing stuff, that just happens.
[36:30] \[SPEAKER_03\]: That happened last year, you know, like, I doesn't need to be this fucking heightened whatever thing and if I wouldn't want to look at that honestly, like I wish that this guy looked at this shit honestly, yeah, would probably lead to like him fucking
[36:46] \[SPEAKER_03\]: actually hitting me, you know, and then it goes to the place and then it's fucking hard to what, and then it's not necessarily fun, you know, because because it's not fun anymore, because you've centered the victim of it, whereas we know conceptually she's the victim of this, but she plays the villain, we're running from her, you know what I mean?
[37:06] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And it's like a similar thing with like, you know, my shit would cop again, then shit, where I'm like, yeah,
[37:12] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It's very hard to make a show or make a media critical of the police that is centering and you're the protagonist or the empathizing whatever the music is swelling under what you're saying.
[37:22] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You know what I'm saying?
[37:23] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Like, yeah, I hear you.
[37:26] \[SPEAKER_00\]: So here's what this is.
[37:27] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And I'll cover.
[37:31] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Yeah, I wanted it like so I think and here is the ultimately artist artist tricky like Everybody's gonna have different opinions nobody's gonna feel the same way about something like artist artist objective
[37:48] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And it's a hard debate, and I'll just take it into the context of, for instance, like, harming against black bodies.
[37:57] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Like, there is a huge push in black communities to be like, like, stop showing it.
[38:03] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Is this really helpful to keep seeing slavery, movies about slavery?
[38:08] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Is it helpful to keep seeing movies about police violence against black people, you know?
[38:12] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And like, do we need to actually keep seeing these images perpetuated in our movies?
[38:16] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Like, we see them enough in real life.
[38:18] \[SPEAKER_02\]: That's not what we used to do.
[38:19] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Do we need to see this, you know?
[38:21] \[SPEAKER_00\]: At the same time, like, it's like, well, how do you balance that with also being like, but there's a reality of like, this thing is real.
[38:29] \[SPEAKER_00\]: So like, you're not
[38:31] \[SPEAKER_00\]: You it's like it's on the one hand people are like, I don't want to see that and then on this other on the other hand people are like, but if you don't show it, it's not real, you know, and so there's a there's there is like a hard place to live in that, but with this movie specifically though, I just wanted to say that like I think this movie is about in cells, but
[38:56] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I personally believe if you were to have there be indefensibly bad where he like is just clearly like hitting her and killing like killing her.
[39:12] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Like it kind of it takes away
[39:18] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And yes, is that a reality for women, of course?
[39:23] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Like those men exist, it happens, it happens more often than is reported, it certainly happens more often than is actually penalized by any justice system.
[39:34] \[SPEAKER_00\]: at the same time, like a part of the insult ideology is them believing that they are the nice guy, that they are the innocent people, that I'm not a guy, I'm not that guy, I'm not the guy who hits women, I'm not the guy who like treats women poorly and like curses them out or like,
[39:55] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Exactly.
[39:56] \[SPEAKER_00\]: It's like, oh, like, I'm nice.
[39:57] \[SPEAKER_00\]: So therefore, I'm owed you being you loving me.
[40:02] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And I, I, I feel like this mood, like the intention.
[40:06] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And I think that I, I feel like it was, it was executed well in the sense of, there's all there's.
[40:12] \[SPEAKER_00\]: This, like, kind of plausible deniability, he keeps trying to have throughout this entire movie of why he's a good guy and why he's not bad, while it's so it's so clear from the jump, like it's like no, you just want her to be your little sex slave and be normal.
[40:35] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah.
[40:36] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And you don't care about her or her feelings or her as a person at all.
[40:41] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Like he doesn't care about her.
[40:44] \[SPEAKER_00\]: He just wants her like her.
[40:46] \[SPEAKER_01\]: But then go, no, yeah, you said question becomes like my question.
[40:50] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Well, well, it might be different than what you're about to say.
[40:53] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Rebecca, my question becomes like, yeah, my question becomes like our in cells going to see this.
[41:00] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Okay.
[41:00] \[SPEAKER_01\]: And then see themselves and bear.
[41:02] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Is that what you're
[41:04] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It's a part of, it's a part of what I was going to say, but I do have a response to that.
[41:08] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I was just like, okay, and I agree, because that's the my, that was the thought that I had.
[41:13] \[SPEAKER_00\]: When Kate was like talking about this and I was like, oh god, like if it's not, if it's not, because you have to remember your smart person, you're a person who's coming here with it.
[41:22] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Well, no, no, no, like, like, no, I think this is really important where it's like not everyone is,
[41:30] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You have to account, especially when you're doing such bold stuff, I guess, like, I don't know and it's not the first fucking movie to do like violence against whatever, you know, to like to tap into this sort of cultural thing is like, there's a wide swath of people who are watching this film and a lot of them are not coming, a lot of them are walking away bitches be crazy a lot
[41:53] \[SPEAKER_02\]: They're main takeaway is like, but don't your girl doesn't your girlfriend say that.
[41:58] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I promise you.
[41:59] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I promise you.
[42:00] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I agree.
[42:01] \[SPEAKER_03\]: The lasting cultural impact is going to be like, but doesn't she always want to kiss before you leave the room or something?
[42:07] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yes.
[42:08] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Because she's so insecure or whatever, you know, blah, blah.
[42:11] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And while I agree with with that,
[42:14] \[SPEAKER_00\]: My caveat is, and this is what I was talking about.
[42:19] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Have you seen the discussion online?
[42:20] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And again, I don't know.
[42:21] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I don't know if it's just, and because algorithms, we all are... We're in a little trouble.
[42:27] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And who knows what everybody sees?
[42:29] \[SPEAKER_00\]: That being said, so much of what I've seen on threads, and it comes up, it comes up every couple of days, like I'll see a random person talk about,
[42:41] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I actually think that the bad guy in the movie is the man and people say it like people say it like like nobody else covered it like they just discovered it like nobody else has been thinking about it like and like people are you like but but I guess Mike what do you think that means yes it's there is a conversation because the movie has been successful commercially
[43:09] \[SPEAKER_00\]: You know, this rare, uh, financial and, you know, artistically, uh, successful fields, you know, whatever thing.
[43:20] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Yeah, it it it it forces people to have it does have it does have people like make people have these conversations and the people who didn't realize it are reading that and going like wait what and then they're having and then people are having arguments online like no sheet no she's bad because blah blah blah and then other people are like you idiot She hears all the things that and so I and to me ultimately
[43:48] \[SPEAKER_00\]: It's like, you unfortunately, this is like a human thing I think and this is why I love art is that I personally feel like the best art has to be a Trojan horse meaning like it has to come in the form where the people who don't get it are like I like it I like it because of because of the wrong reasons and then ultimately those people.
[44:13] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Like.
[44:15] \[SPEAKER_00\]: You're, you already said you liked it.
[44:16] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Well, here was actually the reality.
[44:18] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I mean, they can do that.
[44:19] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And then they're like, wait, what?
[44:20] \[SPEAKER_01\]: But you think that they need the bait and switch for like, they need to first perceive it in the way that they're going to perceive it.
[44:27] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Okay.
[44:27] \[SPEAKER_00\]: The reason I feel that way is because and I, I, I think it's been proof.
[44:31] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I think it's been somewhat proven in our society of like,
[44:34] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And people feel like your thing is just yelling at them and telling them why they're bad.
[44:40] \[SPEAKER_00\]: They're never going to watch it and they're going to be like, f you.
[44:43] \[SPEAKER_00\]: But if you make a movie where they're like,
[44:47] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Oh, actually, well, wait, I do something.
[44:49] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I do things a little bit like that, but if they ever feel like, there's no way I'm that guy as opposed to, oh shoot, like, have I been a guy like that at times?
[45:00] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Like, you know, but the other side of the coin is like the people that, like, the people that are like Darth Vader rules, or like the people,
[45:12] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Like the people that like have like ultimately fully misunderstood like there's some people you're never going to say.
[45:18] \[SPEAKER_00\]: That's just there's some people who are never going to change and they're bad.
[45:20] \[SPEAKER_00\]: You know what I mean?
[45:21] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I agree.
[45:22] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I so listen.
[45:23] \[SPEAKER_03\]: So I agree with most of what you're saying.
[45:27] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Here's like this is what I want to go back to something you said earlier that I think is really central to all of this.
[45:32] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You're talking about like, you know, the conversation around like the depiction of black like pain and and that.
[45:40] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I think this whole conversation ends up being solved by the question of, but who gets the tell these stories?
[45:51] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And this is where I'm like, I do not deny the conversation being valuable, but I'm like, in probably not 21 year old white boys' hands,
[46:03] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Things might be a little bit different.
[46:05] \[SPEAKER_03\]: If most movies weren't in fucking white male hands, that have, you know, because I'm like, I see what your, about our Trojan Heart or whatever, but I'm like, but I also look around and I'm like, things are really fucking bad.
[46:18] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I'm like, things need people need to have boom, boom, boom, open up to a lot of stuff a long time ago.
[46:24] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And there's a reason they have it.
[46:27] \[SPEAKER_03\]: There's a reason that curry barkers are going to continue to get all of the opportunities to attempt to tell these stories and present these ideas and you can't and whatever I'm not even I'm like not he's he's not the number one villain, but I think he's a young man that doesn't understand women and stuff and stuff, you know, I think there's an and and and and how that things are depicted and how.
[46:51] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Because I'm like, are you, he's nothing about women watching this movie, fuck no, I promise you that I promise you that and what you think about who is being centered, you continue to center that same demographic and I just think the conversation could be a lot further if it were in different hands like same thing with with with with the history of black people and trauma has like yeah, most of those depictions you're talking about is 100% you know, I mean,
[47:19] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And that's that also literally becomes my issue because I do think I do think.
[47:25] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It's like, I agree that you can't always be shouting and I do be shouting.
[47:30] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I do be shouting, and that's the thing I have to do.
[47:33] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It's okay.
[47:34] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It's okay.
[47:35] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I acknowledge that.
[47:36] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I'm a shouter, so I'm, you know, but I think, like, and I think, you know, we need people to be shouting and we need people to be talking in very kind voices.
[47:46] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I think we need the spectrum of it, but I think when I think it's,
[47:53] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Like I was asking myself, I'm like, okay, what on what scale of propaganda is this propaganda to me, you know what I mean, and I'm like
[48:03] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And I think, it's on a scale, everything's on a scale, right?
[48:07] \[SPEAKER_03\]: The packaging of it, this guy's a genius.
[48:10] \[SPEAKER_03\]: That's propaganda, all right?
[48:11] \[SPEAKER_03\]: That's not all organic.
[48:13] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Let's be fucking real.
[48:13] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Let's be fucking real.
[48:15] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Let's be real.
[48:15] \[SPEAKER_03\]: They want this status code to continue that the autores are 21 year old white men.
[48:19] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Let's be fucking real.
[48:21] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And they get to, and they get to skyrocket off of literally the bodies of women.
[48:25] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I'm so sorry.
[48:26] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It's so annoying.
[48:27] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Anyways, that's propaganda in and of itself, the whole conversation, he's a genius.
[48:33] \[SPEAKER_03\]: approval.
[48:34] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I was about to call it operation.
[48:35] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Um, that.
[48:39] \[SPEAKER_03\]: The thing is, it looks like does this movie do anything to actually really fucking question and, and, and, and, and, and, and topple in any way with patriarchy?
[48:52] \[SPEAKER_03\]: No, no, no, it's given.
[48:54] \[SPEAKER_03\]: No.
[48:55] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It's given boy.
[48:56] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It's given bad boy friends.
[48:57] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And you're
[49:03] \[SPEAKER_00\]: you're saying that in the sense of the larger conversation, the larger, like the success of this guy, you're not necessarily just talking about what the film is.
[49:14] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah, I'm saying the whole thing of it.
[49:17] \[SPEAKER_03\]: That's where I'm like, I don't, I feel that I'm being sold this thing and it just is very, and I'm like, is it capital P propaganda?
[49:28] \[SPEAKER_03\]: on purpose.
[49:29] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Well, there are people doing to be a stuff, of course, in every corner of everything.
[49:32] \[SPEAKER_03\]: But I'm like at the very, very, very, very, very least, it is highly convenient for a message like this to be a little machima vague, or not vague.
[49:46] \[SPEAKER_03\]: But you know what I mean?
[49:46] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Like,
[49:47] \[SPEAKER_03\]: it's it's it's convenient when it comes to certain dynamics that we're not being extra super incredible clear because I promise you most people walk away from that movie and they're not like well yeah he's a rapist they're like they're like well she said it you know what I'm saying
[50:04] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I think that's arguable.
[50:05] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I think that's arguable, but I think it's possible.
[50:09] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I think it would be if anything if you were like it's 50 50 I'd be like probably right, but I do think like I do think like there are going to be people who
[50:20] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I guess my, again, my question is, how many of those people who walked away not realizing he's rapists?
[50:26] \[SPEAKER_01\]: We're ending a real life.
[50:28] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Listen to our podcast or watch a, you know, or like see some recapping or read a review or read the conversations we hear.
[50:39] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Yeah, but go ahead, James.
[50:41] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Well, I mean, I, you know, this movie is not from the, from the female perspective.
[50:47] \[SPEAKER_01\]: No, it's not going to be, and I, and, and like, and that is the, the problem.
[50:53] \[SPEAKER_01\]: It seems like, you know, from Rebecca's perspective, right?
[50:56] \[SPEAKER_01\]: And so like, there's, I don't think there's any getting around that specifically, but then the question that I now have, because I did like it, yeah, is I think the strongest moment of, I'm going to compare it to get out now, but I think the strongest moment of get out,
[51:10] \[SPEAKER_01\]: is like the cops show up at the end and we think, oh no, it's going to get worse.
[51:17] \[SPEAKER_01\]: And I think everyone thinks that every person that watched get out thinks, oh no, now it's worse.
[51:26] \[SPEAKER_01\]: And then we get the reveal that it's, does this movie have a moment like that?
[51:29] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Like does this movie have
[51:35] \[SPEAKER_00\]: on on like from every perspective that you have let's get this my you know what I'm saying go ahead my answer to that is yes, but again, it's I don't know if you guys agree with my interpretation of the film but my answer is yes in the sense of what Rebecca was saying of like
[51:54] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Oh, no, like to me, it's like as a moviegoer.
[51:56] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Oh, no, you're going to make him have a hero moment.
[52:00] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Like, oh, no, like ultimately at the end of this thing, he's going to do the right thing, but then he puts his fingers in his mouth and it's like, no, no, no, no, I'm not going to do the right thing.
[52:10] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I don't want to die.
[52:11] \[SPEAKER_00\]: My life is worth more than this person, but but then she, but then he, he gets killed not because
[52:19] \[SPEAKER_00\]: not because of his own doing, but because of this thing that he, you know, it's like, yeah, anyway.
[52:26] \[SPEAKER_00\]: So like, and then she and then she gets to live.
[52:28] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And so she gets free and she gets to live.
[52:31] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And so the real hero of the movie, or I mean, she's really just like, who is the hero?
[52:37] \[SPEAKER_00\]: She's more of the victim, I think you know.
[52:39] \[SPEAKER_03\]: She has no agency, that's a thing.
[52:42] \[SPEAKER_03\]: There's nothing, she get, there's nothing.
[52:45] \[SPEAKER_03\]: That's kind of my favorite moments.
[52:46] \[SPEAKER_00\]: We're in so far moments.
[52:48] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Right, right, which is like, that's so awesome.
[52:51] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Love that, but that's kind of my issue.
[52:55] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It's like, even if he's like, if we know he was about to back out of it, this is still the reality that you have chosen.
[53:03] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You could have, you could have done anything, anything in the whole world is your movie.
[53:08] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You've still decided that the only way that she is free is because
[53:18] \[SPEAKER_00\]: But you did it because she did it.
[53:22] \[SPEAKER_00\]: She used the one who broke the thing, made the wish.
[53:25] \[SPEAKER_03\]: But the wish still being about the wish was well, I guess that's the question is where do you think the wish came from from the real Nikki or the obsessed Nikki?
[53:36] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Is that your question?
[53:37] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah.
[53:38] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I think either fucking way, this movie, the way that it like, I really, I think the ending
[53:47] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Let the bad taste in my mouth something about that music over her like screams and cries.
[53:53] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I'm like
[53:54] \[SPEAKER_03\]: This man doesn't understand nothing about nothing.
[53:57] \[SPEAKER_03\]: He doesn't know the pain.
[53:59] \[SPEAKER_03\]: No, because it might as well have been fucking curb your enthusiasm.
[54:02] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Dude, dude, dude, she's crying like, oh, and isn't that, and here, you know, that's the thing.
[54:09] \[SPEAKER_03\]: There's a, there's a, there ultimately feels like there's a cavalierness to kind of all of it in a way that I just don't appreciate.
[54:18] \[SPEAKER_03\]: In a way that to me is not impactful, all right.
[54:21] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You know, I'm not saying that things have to be so fucking serious, and this has to be a documentary about abuse, right?
[54:27] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Like, I don't want that to be wonderful, you know, but I think there's a challenge.
[54:32] \[SPEAKER_03\]: That's where I'm like, because I'm just like, I know, I don't deny that there's something here.
[54:38] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Like the idea, like I get it, you know?
[54:40] \[SPEAKER_03\]: But I'm just like, I truly think in more capable experience.
[54:44] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah, maybe somewhat, like I truly would love to see what, like a woman's perspective.
[54:50] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Even the same, it could have been the exact same setup, you know what I mean?
[54:53] \[SPEAKER_03\]: But it's about that interpretation of these things.
[54:58] \[SPEAKER_03\]: That to me, I'm like, I can tell you, you're a 21-year-old plug-in boy, you know?
[55:04] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I agree with with literally every single word you've said.
[55:09] \[SPEAKER_01\]: The one thing I struggle with is is that he saved her at the end because like, yes, she's no longer in whatever plane of existence she was in.
[55:18] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I just don't think like she's walking out of this.
[55:21] \[SPEAKER_01\]: No, she's fucked for life.
[55:23] \[SPEAKER_01\]: And yes, yeah, so like like while she's not in the supernatural presence, she was just in like it's it's still is like a a horror ending to me.
[55:35] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Yeah, yeah, and I and the I think you're I think potentially the the well I guess maybe definitely the fact that he like at the end was still trying to stop him.
[55:48] \[SPEAKER_01\]: So is that
[55:53] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Yeah, I mean, you know, I did not, I did not go into this movie thinking about it, like, like, um, like, oh, man, what would it be like if I were a woman with the existence?
[56:04] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I wish I could have seen it.
[56:05] \[SPEAKER_01\]: It's great.
[56:08] \[SPEAKER_01\]: And I'm just like, man, this is great.
[56:10] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Oh, look at this terrible guy.
[56:11] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Oh, and look, and she's doing all this.
[56:12] \[SPEAKER_01\]: And now he has to deal with that.
[56:14] \[SPEAKER_01\]: And it's like, oh, but I guess, well, okay.
[56:16] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I mean, this is the last thing I'll, this, well, not the last thing I'll say, but this is, this is the thing that I want to say about this point.
[56:23] \[SPEAKER_00\]: because while I understand, I, okay.
[56:28] \[SPEAKER_00\]: The larger context of this is, and this is how I felt, this is how I felt this way about other, like when we talk about movies about race, all this podcasts, about directors who are white, making certain films or things like that, who gets to play what role or things like that.
[56:46] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And when I'm like, I like this movie, but then they're like, well, why did this person get to do that?
[56:51] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And why wasn't this person casted this?
[56:53] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And I'm like, yes, like, in the larger context of Hollywood and cinema, it is it really sucks, it really, everything's still bad.
[57:03] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Oh, I mean, certainly everything's still bad.
[57:05] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And it really sucks.
[57:06] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And I wish more people understood what you were talking about the propaganda of the pushing of the
[57:21] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I'm not actually going to go into this, but this is kind of like my opinion about going to it.
[57:25] \[SPEAKER_00\]: About going to it.
[57:27] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I was just going to say, like, look, there's a whole like Caitlin Clark debate stuff and it was just it's just like it's just that she has always been drama going on and the thing is so I guess is what I want to say.
[57:40] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I don't fault Curry Baker for the propaganda of Hollywood, turning him into a white male entrepreneur because it's like that really has nothing to do with him and he and now he's going to benefit from it and it's a little bit of like okay and so what are you going to do with this kind of stuff?
[58:00] \[SPEAKER_00\]: No, are you going to consider whatever because like it's funny, Sean Bakers
[58:11] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But sometimes people do.
[58:12] \[SPEAKER_00\]: As an answer sometimes, sometimes people do.
[58:16] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And it will be interesting to see what he does.
[58:18] \[SPEAKER_00\]: But, or put it a whim, or whatever.
[58:20] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But this is my talent.
[58:21] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I'm peer-pushing and I'm like, pass it to black people.
[58:23] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Yeah, you should know what.
[58:25] \[SPEAKER_00\]: You should.
[58:26] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Tag him in a way.
[58:27] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I'm not saying he will, but he should.
[58:29] \[SPEAKER_00\]: But this is my thing is that it's separate.
[58:32] \[SPEAKER_00\]: That is, that is, unfortunately, it's, I understand why it's in my marriage.
[58:37] \[SPEAKER_00\]: But it really is separate from the film and to me,
[58:41] \[SPEAKER_00\]: the reason that I actually think it, like, I am not that interested in the
[58:51] \[SPEAKER_00\]: The woman's version of this specific idea is because this specific idea is not the key.
[58:58] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Okay, I agree.
[58:59] \[SPEAKER_00\]: He probably doesn't know anything about women and to me.
[59:03] \[SPEAKER_00\]: He wrote a movie knowing that he doesn't know anything about women.
[59:07] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Because he was like, I'm going to write a film where I'm not trying to under.
[59:10] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I'm not trying to understand which her perspective or whatever.
[59:13] \[SPEAKER_00\]: My whole, what I'm trying to do is show how men like me.
[59:19] \[SPEAKER_00\]: think of themselves this way and are not.
[59:22] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And I need to do a movie that shows that shows that that takes them on this journey of you thought this guy was the hero and I'm slowly going to show you why he's actually the villain.
[59:33] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And like the movie is about a young white male like that like he is the person that this movie is about and this movie is not up it's it's not about the female perspective.
[59:43] \[SPEAKER_00\]: It's about
[59:45] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And it is more, it's creative more importantly.
[59:47] \[SPEAKER_00\]: These, well, you're the thing to do it.
[59:50] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Does it have to be, do you have to have a female perspective to write about a woman?
[59:55] \[SPEAKER_03\]: No, right, and I understand what you're saying.
[59:57] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I know what you're saying.
[59:58] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah.
[1:00:00] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I do think that, and this is where I'm talking about highly convenient, right?
[1:00:05] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Cause, you know, to platform this, this baked of a brain rather than a brain baked of such a longer and much experience and nuance and whatever, is I'm like, yes, what you're saying is true, but there becomes a responsibility.
[1:00:26] \[SPEAKER_03\]: When you're depicting, I think violence against fucking women, I just think it's true because the way that violence against women in so many different forms, whether self inflicted the way that she, you know, or women on women, whatever is.
[1:00:42] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It is so normalized and we are so de-sensitized to it and this is where I'm like, unfortunately, everything's political.
[1:00:52] \[SPEAKER_03\]: These things do have implications, like the culture and what we are seeing culturally and how we are accepting it and the fact that, and this is where it's like, it isn't the movie's fault, the wider propaganda that I'm sort of talking about,
[1:01:13] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You think the powers that be of white supremacy in patriarchy don't also understand that a lot of people are gonna walk away from this movie not with the, the enlightened sort of understanding and just with like all of these other new depictions of like, like this sort of violence.
[1:01:31] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And the thing is is like, I do think that the movie gives him way too many moments, honestly.
[1:01:39] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Like, there's enough moments of like him being like,
[1:01:42] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It's not you, you know, and like having because to me that that's a little bit also where there's the blur of the intentions or at least like how you can take it of him being a villain because I'm like, yeah, you could take it the way that we do I think there's also the one where you can take it where it's like,
[1:02:02] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah, he regrets it because she because he really did just want the real her and it's not the real her.
[1:02:09] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It's this crazy bitch and so so yeah now now now all of this I mean he's still gonna and here at okay and here's also my my thing is like there becomes so much where he is sort of like
[1:02:30] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It's not even like, do you know, I don't know what I'm saying.
[1:02:33] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I'm trying to say here, like,
[1:02:35] \[SPEAKER_03\]: The reactionary nature of like the way that he is remains trapped in this sort of thing like it's still externalizes the issue where it's like, but it's this crazy version of her that like that's that's the problem my problem is because and of course that's still the villainous thing that he wants to wish for still her love in the end, but even that like like like
[1:03:01] \[SPEAKER_03\]: The more honest thing would, because he said, I want her to love me like a friend again, our word at whatever, like whatever, his like final attempt at a second wishes, you know.
[1:03:10] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It's still, I think, does pose him as the nice guy, kind of, you know, in that way.
[1:03:15] \[SPEAKER_01\]: That bothered me too a little bit.
[1:03:17] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Like it bothered me that like that, like he, he does want her to be in behavior, a certain way.
[1:03:25] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Um, but they're what, in terms of at least the rendition of it in the movie, it's not coming from like someone who's like, like, appears to be a controlling.
[1:03:36] \[SPEAKER_01\]: A controlling, manipulative person, you know, and it is almost almost always seems reactionary to someone.
[1:03:45] \[SPEAKER_01\]: He's scared of it.
[1:03:46] \[SPEAKER_00\]: He's doing.
[1:03:46] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Yeah.
[1:03:47] \[SPEAKER_01\]: And, and I do think that the movie could have certainly handled that for as much as I did like it.
[1:03:53] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I think that the movie could have handled that way, way better.
[1:03:56] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Well, I want to talk about some specific elements.
[1:03:58] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I think about how the insults come in.
[1:04:00] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah, go on.
[1:04:00] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Go on.
[1:04:01] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Because I do.
[1:04:01] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I guess like part of me.
[1:04:04] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I mean, we've talked a lot.
[1:04:06] \[SPEAKER_00\]: We're not going to talk about much about about the specific thing.
[1:04:09] \[SPEAKER_01\]: We've had plenty of episodes like this also.
[1:04:11] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Yeah, where are we mostly?
[1:04:12] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And honestly, I actually think it's better when we like don't like it's been the entire plot right because again we're hoping that people have seen this and if you have and that's fine actually we haven't spoiled that much yet, but I I want like to go through this specific moments for me that likes stood out right well yeah okay.
[1:04:30] \[SPEAKER_00\]: So with this movie starts with this guy like practicing a speech of like telling this woman how much he loves her and his friend is so fun on some on you know this waitress and his friend is like this is grow like this is too much it's grow she's going to be weirded out by it.
[1:04:49] \[SPEAKER_00\]: You know, and he's like, oh, and he's like, I'm trying to say my true feelings.
[1:04:51] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Now to me, like on this rewatch, I realize, oh, this is an indication to show that this guy, like, pretence like this guy is very practiced at, like performing what he thinks he's supposed to perform to get the thing that he wants.
[1:05:08] \[SPEAKER_00\]: So in this beginning of this movie, he's littered in the beginning of the film, he's literally performing like he's literally practicing a performance of like I'm going to say this loving like whatever and like reality is is like has nothing to do with his actual feelings.
[1:05:23] \[SPEAKER_00\]: It's certainly has nothing to do with her.
[1:05:25] \[SPEAKER_00\]: You know what I mean?
[1:05:26] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I'm just going to say I know it doesn't have to be a tangent, but I'm just going to say I think I think
[1:05:30] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I think I think you're very generous on a thing.
[1:05:34] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I think I truly believe that this is the intent.
[1:05:36] \[SPEAKER_03\]: No, I think I think that this is the crux of it is that worse, smarter, you're smart.
[1:05:42] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I think that everyone having conversation about this movie is smarter than the guy that did it.
[1:05:47] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I promise that is, maybe I think that's what it means.
[1:05:49] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Sometimes.
[1:05:50] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And that can be fine.
[1:05:51] \[SPEAKER_03\]: But I'm just like, yeah, that would be a great intention of that scene.
[1:05:55] \[SPEAKER_00\]: as it was.
[1:05:59] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Sometimes you sometimes, uh, people write something not even necessarily in, like, consciously intending that thing.
[1:06:07] \[SPEAKER_00\]: But I think thematically, they were so, so much that they actually did intend it without without being able to verbalize that.
[1:06:16] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And that's what critics are for, and that's why we're here.
[1:06:19] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Anyway, for us, I didn't even answer that.
[1:06:21] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I just don't realize.
[1:06:22] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I just don't know.
[1:06:23] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I hear you.
[1:06:24] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I hear you.
[1:06:25] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I just saying, like, it does work thematically within the, in the front.
[1:06:28] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Yes, yes, that's it.
[1:06:29] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I'll use it.
[1:06:30] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I'll use it.
[1:06:31] \[SPEAKER_01\]: the hopeless romantic of it all of it all too.
[1:06:34] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Like it does, it, it, it, it reveals this aspect of him that he is pining for her that he's feeling this like this movie, ask romance, feeling for this person.
[1:06:47] \[SPEAKER_01\]: And then homeboy who's sleeping with her is or slept with her is getting in his head Tell him not to tell him not to trust his own damn feelings.
[1:06:55] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I didn't love this opening right well He's well, here's the thing.
[1:07:00] \[SPEAKER_00\]: He's he's actually accurately pointing out like bro like what the That's weird.
[1:07:04] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Don't say that you're you're a creep right and which is which is again This is the insult dynamic.
[1:07:11] \[SPEAKER_00\]: They're in the person who's like but I
[1:07:13] \[SPEAKER_00\]: love this person and I love her for the right reasons and that guy over there who's making fun of me is the douchebag guy and he's the one who gets to sleep with her.
[1:07:22] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Why not me?
[1:07:22] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Yeah, I'm the one that's good person.
[1:07:25] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I'm the nice guy.
[1:07:26] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Because I wrote this ever.
[1:07:28] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Jonathan's episode of Clashroom Crush is called a nice guy like me.
[1:07:32] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Check it out.
[1:07:35] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I hate it.
[1:07:36] \[SPEAKER_00\]: It's good.
[1:07:37] \[SPEAKER_00\]: What now?
[1:07:37] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I mean, I mean, I mean,
[1:07:39] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I could have, I could have went down the street for sure.
[1:07:42] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And this is why I do value your insight.
[1:07:45] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And same, and same.
[1:07:46] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And then like, okay, so then we get to this thing.
[1:07:48] \[SPEAKER_00\]: They're at the trivia night and he's like, I'm gonna tell you, he doesn't, he doesn't do it.
[1:07:52] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Why, he's a chicken.
[1:07:53] \[SPEAKER_00\]: He's a coward.
[1:07:54] \[SPEAKER_00\]: He's a coward.
[1:07:55] \[SPEAKER_00\]: He can't say it.
[1:07:56] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I can relate to wanting to say something and being too scared.
[1:08:00] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Why, he's afraid.
[1:08:01] \[SPEAKER_00\]: He's a co-man.
[1:08:02] \[SPEAKER_00\]: He's afraid of rejection.
[1:08:04] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And that's the other thing about this is like,
[1:08:07] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I think it's like the villain up her, him being afraid of her later on when she's literally going psychic like crazy.
[1:08:15] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I think it's supposed to be like this heightened version of this fear of rejection.
[1:08:20] \[SPEAKER_00\]: He keeps repeating throughout the movie.
[1:08:22] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Like, but do you like me?
[1:08:24] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Do you actually like me?
[1:08:25] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Like does she like me?
[1:08:26] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Does like the real her like me?
[1:08:28] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Because for the, for the insell community, the worst thing in the world that can ever happen is the girl that you like
[1:08:37] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And as if all of human entity in praise is not like living in the same world.
[1:08:42] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Here's a thing.
[1:08:43] \[SPEAKER_00\]: If you get rejected, that hurts emotionally, fine.
[1:08:47] \[SPEAKER_00\]: It's not her fault.
[1:08:49] \[SPEAKER_00\]: It's not your fault.
[1:08:50] \[SPEAKER_00\]: You move on because you're an adult.
[1:08:52] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And that's what happens.
[1:08:53] \[SPEAKER_00\]: We don't always get what we want.
[1:08:56] \[SPEAKER_00\]: They said, man, white men think they live in the society where they've been told like they should get what they want if they are the night right person that do the nice things or whatever so like he's this guy doesn't get really gone.
[1:09:11] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And then we, and then he, okay, then his, his romantic gesture is to like get her a freaking little crystal like you know what I mean like this guy is not romantic.
[1:09:21] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Yeah, he's a loser.
[1:09:24] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Yeah, like, like, but the, the wish is a boy, the wish thing is for her to the ultimately, right?
[1:09:30] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Like he wanted to.
[1:09:31] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Well, yes, then he's like, Oh, this is a fun thing.
[1:09:33] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I'll give it to her.
[1:09:34] \[SPEAKER_00\]: But then he doesn't give it to her because he's afraid of rejection.
[1:09:38] \[SPEAKER_00\]: He's he's afraid.
[1:09:39] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Yeah.
[1:09:39] \[SPEAKER_00\]: He's because because he doesn't give it to her because he says I have something for you and her response was, ooh, why does that make me feel weird like nervous and he's like, I don't know.
[1:09:50] \[SPEAKER_00\]: That's a weird response.
[1:09:52] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Yeah.
[1:09:52] \[SPEAKER_00\]: The reality is she said it like that because she
[1:09:56] \[SPEAKER_00\]: clearly knows that this guy likes her.
[1:09:59] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And then she's a little, she's like, oh, uh oh, and then he knows that she might be feeling that right.
[1:10:05] \[SPEAKER_00\]: So he's just afraid of rejection.
[1:10:07] \[SPEAKER_00\]: He winds up again, not saying his feelings because he's a coward.
[1:10:12] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And then he does display that that they do get the opportunity every opportunity every time.
[1:10:19] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Right.
[1:10:20] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You know, he got the exact opportunity to say it.
[1:10:22] \[SPEAKER_01\]: The red carpet was roll platter on platter, man.
[1:10:27] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Silver, the most silver is still platter.
[1:10:30] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Silver is still platter.
[1:10:31] \[SPEAKER_02\]: At least that is a bad as a representation of white supremacy.
[1:10:34] \[SPEAKER_01\]: War broke Walter's 60 minutes.
[1:10:37] \[SPEAKER_01\]: If you have feelings for me, then just tell me.
[1:10:40] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Tell me right now.
[1:10:42] \[SPEAKER_00\]: No.
[1:10:42] \[SPEAKER_00\]: No.
[1:10:44] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Oh, okay.
[1:10:46] \[SPEAKER_00\]: This is the thing that I like is that I'm just gonna skip forward ahead because he makes this wish She immediately comes back to the car.
[1:10:53] \[SPEAKER_03\]: That was scary.
[1:10:55] \[SPEAKER_00\]: It was definitely scary, right?
[1:10:57] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Our movements are scary.
[1:10:58] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Her facial expressions like this woman is incredible.
[1:11:02] \[SPEAKER_00\]: This actress, she crushed it.
[1:11:03] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And it leads to him like being like, okay, okay, like even when he's already made this wish and she clearly likes him,
[1:11:11] \[SPEAKER_00\]: He's still too scared of rejection.
[1:11:14] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I think he has to literally do everything.
[1:11:18] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And then he finally gets to make out with her and then everything's great, right?
[1:11:21] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And then we get the montage of him being like, yeah, I got the thing that I wanted.
[1:11:26] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Baba Blah, you know, then his friend did he montage?
[1:11:30] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Yeah, the very day, yeah, yeah.
[1:11:32] \[SPEAKER_01\]: And she and she snaps out of it twice, at least at the point, before the,
[1:11:39] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Oh, no.
[1:11:40] \[SPEAKER_01\]: God, those moments were true.
[1:11:41] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Yes.
[1:11:41] \[SPEAKER_00\]: It's a indicator to him.
[1:11:42] \[SPEAKER_00\]: That's something killing.
[1:11:43] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But yeah, he's choosing to be.
[1:11:45] \[SPEAKER_02\]: He's choosing to ignore it.
[1:11:47] \[SPEAKER_00\]: He's choosing to ignore it.
[1:11:49] \[SPEAKER_00\]: His friend kind of said like basically like straight up is like
[1:11:53] \[SPEAKER_00\]: What the hell are you like she's acting really she's acting really weird you know whatever he like oh, maybe she was on drugs or whatever that scene where she comes back to the house and he was like, she's like, oh, yeah, he told me I'm sorry.
[1:12:08] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I wasn't drugs.
[1:12:09] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I'm sorry, but I just want to and then I just want to let you know like.
[1:12:13] \[SPEAKER_00\]: You know, I don't think you did anything wrong.
[1:12:15] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And he's like, what?
[1:12:16] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I did, I did, now in this moment, all he cares about is not that he did something wrong, just that there is a perception that he did something wrong.
[1:12:25] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Right.
[1:12:26] \[SPEAKER_00\]: He keeps acting like he's.
[1:12:27] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah.
[1:12:27] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Yeah.
[1:12:28] \[SPEAKER_03\]: But I was like, I'm like, I think such a percentage of matter like, yes, it is so scary.
[1:12:34] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Don't you don't isn't consent confusing isn't it scary?
[1:12:38] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You know, I'm really relatable.
[1:12:41] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I agree.
[1:12:42] \[SPEAKER_00\]: This is subtle and they're and I am sure most people aren't catching it, right?
[1:12:47] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And I don't even know if I, I definitely didn't think this guy was great, but I don't know if I was fully catching that
[1:12:55] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Like, I just kind of just thought we have to be back.
[1:12:56] \[SPEAKER_01\]: He's already manipulating her.
[1:12:58] \[SPEAKER_01\]: He's already manipulating her.
[1:13:00] \[SPEAKER_01\]: That is already essentially making us.
[1:13:02] \[SPEAKER_00\]: For me, the moment of this dude 100% is a villain, like 100%.
[1:13:06] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Like, no doubt about it was the restaurant scene where his friend is like, Hey, like, this whole thing was made up.
[1:13:17] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Her dad doesn't really have cancer.
[1:13:18] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Basically throw it out.
[1:13:20] \[SPEAKER_02\]: He decided exactly then.
[1:13:22] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And he was fine.
[1:13:23] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Right.
[1:13:24] \[SPEAKER_00\]: He asked her.
[1:13:25] \[SPEAKER_00\]: He was like, and then he goes, do you love me?
[1:13:27] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Yes.
[1:13:28] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Do you love me more than any person in the world, which is what his wish was?
[1:13:31] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And she repeats.
[1:13:32] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Yes.
[1:13:32] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I love you more than any person in the world.
[1:13:34] \[SPEAKER_00\]: He knows without a doubt, 100%.
[1:13:36] \[SPEAKER_00\]: This wish thing is real.
[1:13:37] \[SPEAKER_00\]: It's not the fact that her dad had cancer.
[1:13:39] \[SPEAKER_00\]: There wasn't this weird movie magic moment at like the wish is real.
[1:13:44] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I
[1:13:45] \[SPEAKER_00\]: forced her to love me and the the thing she goes the things she says next is does that matter because she's talking about in the classics of her cancer the dancing cancer what is that matter but like in the reality though the movie is saying to this guy does it matter that she is that she no longer has free will and he goes no
[1:14:06] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Well, it is cuts that I'm having sex and he's reaping her.
[1:14:11] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, that's the thing I put.
[1:14:12] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I said, okay, and rape and then rape, you know, and that's correct.
[1:14:16] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And that is 100% right.
[1:14:17] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Well, and the thing that's interesting, though, is like, is the shift and this kind of guy is talking about it with the reaction, right?
[1:14:23] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Because it's like, how funny and whatever blah blah blah, where I'm like, no, truly it is a male fantasy to date pretty much child is to just kind of kind of dominate like a being, you know, it's a kind of foundation where we are and and what's what's funny, what's funny and true is like it's it's like, well, that's cool and chill basically until this bitch starts acting weird and starts acting a little cuckoo.
[1:14:45] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And that is where I'm like, but when are you challenging it before she starts getting kuku?
[1:14:50] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And my issue a little bit is that, first of all, is a little bit bad?
[1:14:54] \[SPEAKER_00\]: When are who chap, what do you mean?
[1:14:56] \[SPEAKER_03\]: The movie sort of like super challenging, like him, you know, like showing him to be like, pussy and like, and pretty much, and like what we're saying, how we're doing, right?
[1:15:07] \[SPEAKER_03\]: The villain, because I'm like,
[1:15:09] \[SPEAKER_03\]: i think that we know that that was rape i think it could have been a little bit a little bit clearer that that's like once i think yeah don't you think that they shot cause
[1:15:20] \[SPEAKER_00\]: There's her face above, yeah, yeah, because like there's a way to be made like if she if she's supposed to love him than she should then she should enjoy having sex and that sexing could have been like her being super into it and like even if she was even if she didn't feel physical pleasure Performing the fact that she's doing it, but I thought it was the movie like the director's choice to have her kind of literally look like she's being like date raped
[1:15:44] \[SPEAKER_03\]: But that's where it's hard because I'm like, but then how normalizing is that?
[1:15:49] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Sort of like when you have that so early in the movie, you're like, you're buying into this sort of thing.
[1:15:56] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And just the way that I think is like a little bit careless and
[1:16:01] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And my other issue also with the movie on like a actual horror element, and this is sort of, this is kind of why I feel like we're smarter than this guy is because the movie has one trick.
[1:16:15] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It only hyens how this bitch be crazy.
[1:16:18] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Like there's no other way that it explores how it might be bad for him to be a rapist and like only have a relationship in which he's like a free-use porn
[1:16:31] \[SPEAKER_03\]: the only repercussions for that ends up being this bitch be crazy, you know, and I'm just like a smarter guy was sort of think of other because because I kept looking for a way that it was going to be different that, but it just heightens how crazy this bitch be, you know, and by the way, can you kind of do you like, like, how the lesson or, you know,
[1:16:55] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Like, what could it have been?
[1:16:56] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I guess I'm saying.
[1:16:57] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah, like, what are the, what are the, there's, there's so many different ways that I feel like.
[1:17:05] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Well, that's the thing.
[1:17:06] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I, I think it's, it's tough because it's the movie's trying to show him.
[1:17:13] \[SPEAKER_03\]: end up being trapped by the situation sort of like that's his perspective is he's like trapped in it.
[1:17:20] \[SPEAKER_03\]: But if we're also interested in viewing him as the perpetrator of this harm of which he is, the only way that he as a character is getting and this is sort of like I guess it's indicative of the world that we live in of like
[1:17:34] \[SPEAKER_03\]: There is no accountability.
[1:17:36] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Like he has no accountability.
[1:17:37] \[SPEAKER_02\]: He gets to just die.
[1:17:38] \[SPEAKER_02\]: There's no like he doesn't got to deal with any of this.
[1:17:41] \[SPEAKER_02\]: He doesn't got to deal with the fact that he raped this bitch or fashion, say raped this bitch.
[1:17:45] \[SPEAKER_03\]: That's a horrible way to say it, but you don't have to think like he just kind of gets to die and she is left in this health of her her memory and in that same way, it's like, yeah, the only way that he deals with
[1:17:57] \[SPEAKER_03\]: The fact that his wish was bucked up is just that she starts kind of acting a little crazy and scary and and violent.
[1:18:06] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You know, I just wanted it to be any like it just it just kind of said kept being to me the same thing over and over and over and look and like that.
[1:18:15] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Maybe that is just what horror is.
[1:18:17] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I don't know, but I feel like it certainly what this a little bit.
[1:18:22] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Yeah, I think it has a lot to do with the fact that he is a sketch comedian and like that that's what sketch is right sketches is one idea and then you height in it and so this movie is and I almost think it literally is a sketch idea made into a film, yes, which is something that was in percent.
[1:18:41] \[SPEAKER_00\]: that we wish we could do and probably we'll help you.
[1:18:44] \[SPEAKER_00\]: You know what?
[1:18:45] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Okay.
[1:18:45] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Sorry.
[1:18:46] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Sorry.
[1:18:46] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Sorry.
[1:18:47] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I'm just kidding at that.
[1:18:48] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It just came to me because you're asking me like, what are other things that could have been explored?
[1:18:52] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You know, like, if we want a foot like.
[1:18:56] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I guess that's the crux of the thing is that it's like her obsession, right?
[1:18:59] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And I'm like, I guess all of the stuff will come from that, but the way that it was so coded to me as like, like, this is an insecure girl who like needs you to be fulfilling her thing, like, and that was the only place it was ever coming from, whereas I'm like, what if what if she, like,
[1:19:21] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Could fucking confront the fact like if you loved me so much then why did you fucking rape me?
[1:19:28] \[SPEAKER_00\]: You know, or like there's like a lot of like they like she could get you're saying we could get in here more of of the real person
[1:19:35] \[SPEAKER_03\]: There's so many ways that she could be expressing a rage towards him in a way that is frightening that is not bill that is not born of her insecurity of like their attachment because that's what it always comes down to is like not her like you're talking to her not meet like it's all the insecurity it's all the jealousy like there could be a lot of different forms of rage I mean it is in it.
[1:19:59] \[SPEAKER_03\]: when you're in love with someone and they can't fucking treat you like right there's a lot of different ways to be enraged about that you know it's not always about am i good enough and that is the sort of subtle shit that it's like no matter how much you're talking about this guy he's bad one her violence comes from but choose me
[1:20:21] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And it really, and I'm like, I got a question like any narrative and this is where I'm like, I joke about it, but I literally talk about this with Love Island where I'm like, it's a dangerous message to continue to say to like the most sort of dangerous thing as a woman unchosen.
[1:20:38] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You know what I mean?
[1:20:38] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Like that is kind of a little bit also.
[1:20:40] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Sure.
[1:20:41] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It's giving.
[1:20:41] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I mean, and it's from him, of course.
[1:20:44] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Does that make sense?
[1:20:45] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Does that make sense?
[1:20:46] \[SPEAKER_00\]: It doesn't make sense.
[1:20:48] \[SPEAKER_00\]: It's kind of different angles.
[1:20:50] \[SPEAKER_02\]: you know.
[1:20:51] \[SPEAKER_00\]: It's like it's the kind it's like it's like the to me it's both the beauty of the film and why it is so successful and why it's worked and and the downfall and the inherent downfall and shortcoming of of this idea which is like you can only kind of it's like
[1:21:09] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Her insecurity is really, really his insecurity.
[1:21:13] \[SPEAKER_00\]: That's literally been placed into her.
[1:21:15] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Right.
[1:21:16] \[SPEAKER_00\]: She's throwing it back at him being like, and it's kind of like, this is who you are, like, you're this.
[1:21:20] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Yeah.
[1:21:21] \[SPEAKER_00\]: But I'm doing it in the, again, the Trojan Horse of, like, yeah, women are crazy.
[1:21:27] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Well, but it's, but it's interesting because you're saying like,
[1:21:30] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Like why do because they have that moment where like the real Nikki comes through when she's sleeping right and she's like, please just kill me And I'm like see so that shows like and he says yeah what is he says something horrible What's wrong with being with me?
[1:21:50] \[SPEAKER_00\]: So who it's to me to me, personally, the spirit that appears into the curious moment of the film is terrible saying that it's terrifying.
[1:22:00] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It's terrifying, but it does go, I'm like, but I do wonder, I'm like, why couldn't they use that more, like, like, I think that there was really Nicky's rage should have come through more and she shouldn't have been like,
[1:22:19] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah.
[1:22:20] \[SPEAKER_00\]: In the, in the, because I do think he would hurt him his feelings.
[1:22:24] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Well, that was what I was going to say.
[1:22:25] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I was going to say, like, okay, we do get a, we do get a little bit of this moment, but it's not, it's not like pressed hard.
[1:22:32] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And, but like we do get this moment when he's in the car with this friend before right before the party where the friend is like, dude, like, I think you're taking advantage of her.
[1:22:42] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And he's like, no, I'm not, and he's all defensive, even though he literally knows he literally taking advantage of her, he knows exactly how he's doing it, like, but, but he's like, no, no, no, like, she's obsessed with me.
[1:22:54] \[SPEAKER_00\]: She's obsessed with me.
[1:22:55] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And like that, again, I think that's the film, the script trying to show the
[1:23:00] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Yeah.
[1:23:01] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Yeah.
[1:23:02] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Hey.
[1:23:02] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Hey.
[1:23:02] \[SPEAKER_00\]: But imagine.
[1:23:03] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Yeah.
[1:23:04] \[SPEAKER_03\]: But imagine.
[1:23:05] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I'm sorry.
[1:23:07] \[SPEAKER_03\]: But just like the issue of how this, this woman character truly does have no agency really could be solved in moments like that.
[1:23:15] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Where it's like,
[1:23:17] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Right.
[1:23:17] \[SPEAKER_03\]: What if she fought to, yeah, like to include the real person and let her and let her rage of being violated be fucking scary because what scary is how she just want me me me, but you know what, maybe the lesser should be you should be a scared of women who don't want to be violated.
[1:23:34] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You know what I'm saying?
[1:23:35] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Yeah.
[1:23:36] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I mean, like every time she breaks through, she stabs herself instead of stabbing him.
[1:23:43] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I mean, like, that's the, like, if it would have, she could have just turned the knife on, or it's the creature trying to stop the Nicky side, but there's no, there's no understanding what is what?
[1:23:55] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Yeah.
[1:23:56] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Yeah.
[1:23:56] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Well, I think the self,
[1:24:01] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Uh, when she stabs herself, that's before he says that that's, no, no, that's before he said the line why it was so bad about being with me, right?
[1:24:10] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Yeah.
[1:24:11] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And does she try to put him parmer herself out?
[1:24:13] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Because I guess what I was going to do.
[1:24:15] \[SPEAKER_02\]: What does she do?
[1:24:16] \[SPEAKER_00\]: What I was going to do, what I was going to suggest.
[1:24:21] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I don't know if this is true.
[1:24:21] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I don't know if this actually lines up with the movie.
[1:24:23] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Is that the reason she's trying to kill herself is because she doesn't know that it's hit.
[1:24:27] \[SPEAKER_00\]: She doesn't, the real hurt doesn't know that it's him that that costs this.
[1:24:30] \[SPEAKER_00\]: She's just all of a sudden one day is trapped inside of her own body.
[1:24:35] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And there's this.
[1:24:36] \[SPEAKER_00\]: There's this entity that loves you.
[1:24:37] \[SPEAKER_00\]: What do I mean?
[1:24:38] \[SPEAKER_00\]: So it's like, she's like, I'm trapped that I'm in pain and like when the dude on the phone loved that scene by the way.
[1:24:45] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And that's the, yeah, that's pretty good.
[1:24:47] \[SPEAKER_00\]: But that's his voice.
[1:24:49] \[SPEAKER_00\]: But like him.
[1:24:50] \[SPEAKER_00\]: It's a great.
[1:24:50] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, like this is like, that's like, oh, you want to cancel your wish.
[1:24:55] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And the first thing he's like, no, no, no, no, no.
[1:24:56] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
[1:25:06] \[SPEAKER_00\]: That made, that made a little too crazy.
[1:25:08] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I want freaky, sneaky, but not that freaky.
[1:25:10] \[SPEAKER_00\]: So, my anyway, that was driven.
[1:25:14] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Line up that like her, the reason she's not hurting him is because she doesn't know that it's his fault.
[1:25:19] \[SPEAKER_00\]: She just thinks that she's trapped and so that's why she's trying to kill him.
[1:25:22] \[SPEAKER_00\]: So that's why she asked him to kill her because she's trapped and she doesn't.
[1:25:25] \[SPEAKER_00\]: She doesn't know that there's a way out of it.
[1:25:27] \[SPEAKER_01\]: We know some dude.
[1:25:29] \[SPEAKER_01\]: We're right.
[1:25:30] \[SPEAKER_01\]: What is what kind of demon?
[1:25:33] \[SPEAKER_01\]: casually chatting on the phone, you know, let me throw this out there.
[1:25:38] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I don't really have that many thoughts about it.
[1:25:39] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I remember seeing one person try to suggest that the friend, the other, like, his, Sarah, who like really likes him, like, they were like, I don't know if she's, like, they were like, I saw somebody say, like, I don't know if she's great either.
[1:25:54] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And I was like, huh, like, to me, I just love that she was just a pure victim in the, in the, in the film.
[1:25:59] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Oh yeah she's just an underdeveloped girl.
[1:26:02] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Okay.
[1:26:02] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Yeah, it's just like she's just like yeah she well that's the thing is like
[1:26:07] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I do, and I, again, I think, yes, he doesn't know, I do agree.
[1:26:12] \[SPEAKER_00\]: He doesn't know women, and I think that he knows that about himself and that's why he doesn't try to write that much, but he has to go to his film because it's part of the thing.
[1:26:19] \[SPEAKER_00\]: But like, I feel like he was trying to show, well, here's the female side of unrequited love of like sitting on like, I like this person who doesn't like me back, and her,
[1:26:35] \[SPEAKER_00\]: What the friend is trying to do the whole time before she even finally professes her love is like, she's like, I think you're being used.
[1:26:44] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Like I think she doesn't cheat you right or whatever.
[1:26:47] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Like she cares and she, whether we're supposed to take it on face value or not, she does care about his feelings in a way that we never see him even attempt to really care about her feelings.
[1:27:00] \[SPEAKER_00\]: You know what I mean?
[1:27:01] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Yeah.
[1:27:02] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Even when he believed this lie that her dad had cancer and he was like, and he like throws out like how is your dad?
[1:27:08] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And she's like, I don't want to talk about it.
[1:27:10] \[SPEAKER_00\]: He doesn't press.
[1:27:10] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Because I think he doesn't really want it.
[1:27:12] \[SPEAKER_00\]: He doesn't care.
[1:27:13] \[SPEAKER_00\]: He doesn't care.
[1:27:14] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Yeah.
[1:27:14] \[SPEAKER_00\]: He's actually wants to use that.
[1:27:16] \[SPEAKER_00\]: He says, I don't.
[1:27:17] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah.
[1:27:17] \[SPEAKER_02\]: That's the fantasy.
[1:27:19] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I don't deal with all that.
[1:27:20] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I don't want to deal with any of your humanity.
[1:27:23] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah.
[1:27:23] \[SPEAKER_01\]: He knows that she wants to write, um, but we don't know that she's writing a book until randomly in the middle because they don't have any conversation like they talk to each other.
[1:27:33] \[SPEAKER_01\]: They don't.
[1:27:34] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Right.
[1:27:34] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Well, because he knows that it's not.
[1:27:35] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It hasn't been her this whole time.
[1:27:38] \[SPEAKER_03\]: That's the thing.
[1:27:38] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I, I argue that he's, uh, he's known that it's not right from the fucking job, you know, like, and in that way, I'm like, yeah.
[1:27:48] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And the rest of our hearts are smart.
[1:27:50] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah.
[1:27:50] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah.
[1:27:51] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Exactly.
[1:27:52] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Yeah.
[1:27:53] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Oh, man.
[1:27:54] \[SPEAKER_01\]: That reading of that.
[1:27:55] \[SPEAKER_01\]: The reading of that.
[1:27:56] \[SPEAKER_01\]: The reading of that.
[1:27:57] \[SPEAKER_01\]: The reading of that.
[1:27:57] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I mean, I'm getting up and trying to share back.
[1:27:59] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I'm just standing up and being like.
[1:28:02] \[SPEAKER_02\]: That was crazy, no, every time they did have like incredible every time they held on any one of her faces I was like no, I don't I literally was like this.
[1:28:12] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I'm like She, but she wanted to scare like she wouldn't be looking at these.
[1:28:16] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I know I literally look at you still image Yeah incredible she didn't have so many times.
[1:28:23] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Oh, man.
[1:28:24] \[SPEAKER_01\]: That was spooky
[1:28:26] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And I knew that friend was going to die when they were in that car.
[1:28:28] \[SPEAKER_00\]: But I just didn't know when I was just like, oh god, and then it was so violent.
[1:28:33] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I really saw it.
[1:28:34] \[SPEAKER_00\]: It was terrible.
[1:28:35] \[SPEAKER_03\]: So terrible.
[1:28:36] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It was a lot.
[1:28:36] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It was a lot.
[1:28:38] \[SPEAKER_01\]: It was a lot.
[1:28:39] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Did you like the billion at the end of the billion?
[1:28:42] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I wish it had dollars and that was pretty funny.
[1:28:45] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I can't, you know, like, that was probably real estate.
[1:28:48] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Ha ha ha.
[1:28:49] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Oh man, come on.
[1:28:50] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I got a billion dollars.
[1:28:53] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Oh, yeah, that's good.
[1:28:55] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Very good.
[1:28:56] \[SPEAKER_00\]: All right.
[1:28:57] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Well, yeah, and then we talked about the end.
[1:29:00] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I mean, I'm looking at my notes making sure if there's anything really important that I need to say.
[1:29:06] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I feel like the obsessed version, the obsessed version of him, would have known to keep trying to throw up the pills.
[1:29:15] \[SPEAKER_01\]: The obsessed version of him would have.
[1:29:18] \[SPEAKER_00\]: You mean?
[1:29:19] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Well, because you can't be with that interview.
[1:29:24] \[SPEAKER_01\]: You're dead.
[1:29:26] \[SPEAKER_01\]: So once the spell kicks in, it's not just a complete shift.
[1:29:31] \[SPEAKER_01\]: You know, it's a, no, I'm going to duck like it's a, like I've got to get the thing out or my.
[1:29:36] \[SPEAKER_01\]: This vessel's going up right.
[1:29:39] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I guess they did show though that her memory was a little bit like jumbled in that beginning Remember it so like maybe that's the part of it the lore is like he didn't remember that he just did that Because like when she came back she said something like oh like I'm sad like you know I'm sad my catchest diet and he's like what you're a cat dog.
[1:29:58] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, the deep the demon is like just what
[1:30:08] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I also thought the moment, the moment of him going back to the shop and being like, where is it?
[1:30:14] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Like, where is it?
[1:30:15] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And then what are you talking about?
[1:30:17] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And then she's like, I'm just kidding.
[1:30:18] \[SPEAKER_00\]: It's right here.
[1:30:18] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I was like, that's the way the shop owner in the beginning.
[1:30:21] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I also thought was incredible.
[1:30:23] \[SPEAKER_01\]: And like the call forward to what we were going to see.
[1:30:25] \[SPEAKER_01\]: But that a lot of people complain that woman was fantastic.
[1:30:28] \[SPEAKER_01\]: It was the most like, because she felt like a regular person but then that dialogue was like actually it's very mysterious and you aren't going to die like it like all of those kind of for boating.
[1:30:41] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I really thought it.
[1:30:42] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Yeah.
[1:30:45] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Um, yeah.
[1:30:46] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Did you find anything anything else you wanted to say?
[1:30:49] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Um, no, I feel like I'm like, I kind of, I can't, I can't, I can't, I can't, I can't, I can't, I can't, I can't, I can't, I can't, I can't, I can't, I can't, I can't, I can't, I can't, I can't, I can't, I can't, I can't, I can't, I can't, I can't, I can't, I can't, I can't, I can't, I can't, I can't, I can't, I can't, I can't, I can't, I can't, I can't, I can't, I can't, I can't, I can't, I can't, I can't, I can't, I can't, I can't, I can't, I can't, I can't, I can't, I can't, I can't, I can't, I can't,
[1:31:08] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Yeah, I was just going to say that really really sucks that we don't that young women and young people of color.
[1:31:18] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I mean especially young
[1:31:20] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Uh-huh, women of color, like do not get these opportunities in the way why people like it's just it's like no I don't even know and like a hundred to one like is that is that a fair range of like It's worth the never before there are graphs.
[1:31:35] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Yeah, our graphs and they're bad number of times because like this movie is a long sketch essentially
[1:31:42] \[SPEAKER_01\]: And it's not even like the idea of it.
[1:31:44] \[SPEAKER_01\]: There are things about it that are prescient and in the zeitgeist right now.
[1:31:47] \[SPEAKER_01\]: But like the idea of like a monkey's ball type situation or even like a fatal attraction or whatever, we've seen this before.
[1:31:56] \[SPEAKER_01\]: You know, so it's not even like an original idea, but like had any of us pitched this.
[1:32:04] \[SPEAKER_01\]: And to anyone, we wouldn't have got to get a thumbnail.
[1:32:08] \[SPEAKER_01\]: And if you got the money, that's the thing is that.
[1:32:10] \[SPEAKER_01\]: And he got the money.
[1:32:11] \[SPEAKER_00\]: He was funded this from a company.
[1:32:13] \[SPEAKER_00\]: They gave him, you know, a million dollars.
[1:32:16] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Apparently he shot it for 750,000, which I'm sure they love.
[1:32:19] \[SPEAKER_00\]: But like, he was funded this month.
[1:32:21] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And it's like, yeah, which is all.
[1:32:24] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Yeah, but like.
[1:32:26] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Unfortunately, like I joke about my version of this movie, but I'm like, oh, I have one you think I don't have a horror movie about like crazy man.
[1:32:34] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I have it and the thing is it's like
[1:32:38] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Unfortunately, too, where's your pregnancy patriarchy?
[1:32:41] \[SPEAKER_03\]: My movie is not sexy, okay?
[1:32:43] \[SPEAKER_03\]: This movie is sexy.
[1:32:45] \[SPEAKER_03\]: This is sellable because, unfortunately, like, yeah, which would be crazy even just on a trailer level, or, you know, like, that does sell.
[1:32:53] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And the note that I, and here's the thing, and sometimes it's vibes, right?
[1:32:58] \[SPEAKER_03\]: The note that I've just found that I, that I was like, oh, yeah, I do have to actually say this is, the thing is is sometimes you can just tell
[1:33:08] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Like I can just tell that Sean Paul respects women.
[1:33:13] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Do I, you know, Sean Paul, the Sean Paul?
[1:33:15] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yes, I've said this three years.
[1:33:18] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Exactly.
[1:33:19] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And I'm a, and, and you don't want to get me started.
[1:33:22] \[SPEAKER_03\]: But I've said this for years.
[1:33:25] \[SPEAKER_03\]: There are some things that are elusive, but you just know, I'm like, Sean Paul respects, oh, woman.
[1:33:30] \[SPEAKER_03\]: He does.
[1:33:31] \[SPEAKER_03\]: He loves the woman.
[1:33:32] \[SPEAKER_03\]: He loves her body, loves her brain.
[1:33:34] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Okay.
[1:33:34] \[SPEAKER_00\]: He definitely loves her body.
[1:33:36] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Yeah.
[1:33:36] \[SPEAKER_03\]: That's not the key loves her spirit.
[1:33:39] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Okay.
[1:33:40] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Joe and Rebecca, he's calling her by name.
[1:33:43] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Okay.
[1:33:44] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Okay.
[1:33:45] \[SPEAKER_01\]: He's going Vim by name, and he knows her name, and he knows her name, and he knows her name, and he knows her name, and he knows her name, and he knows her name, and he knows her name, and he knows her name, and he knows her name, and he knows her name, and he knows her name, and he knows her name, and he knows her name, and he knows her name, and he knows her name, and he knows her name, and he knows her name, and he knows her name, and he knows her name, and he knows her name, and he knows her name, and he knows her name, and he knows her name, and he knows her name, and he knows her name, and he knows her name, and he knows her name, and he knows her name, and he knows her name, and he knows her name, and he knows her name, and he knows her name, and he knows her name, and he knows her name, and he knows her name, and he knows her name
[1:34:06] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It's just I wish I could get the same vibe from this guy in this movie.
[1:34:09] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, I wish I was like the shop for a vibe.
[1:34:12] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I felt that was important to say, because sometimes a woman knows, and I know, and I know that's why you asked me to be on the pod.
[1:34:19] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Yeah, yeah, and it is.
[1:34:20] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And it is.
[1:34:22] \[SPEAKER_00\]: It's 100% actually really good.
[1:34:23] \[SPEAKER_02\]: No, this is my impression of Jonathan.
[1:34:26] \[SPEAKER_02\]: When he texted me yesterday, we should have a lady on this pod, probably.
[1:34:30] \[SPEAKER_02\]: We should have, we should get a woman's perspective.
[1:34:33] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Oh fuck.
[1:34:34] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Just so you know, just so you know, we decided this is the movie we were going to review, probably I would say an hour before I texted you.
[1:34:43] \[SPEAKER_00\]: So I just want to know that that's better than I was last minute, but the last minute is a bit of also us choosing what movie we're going to review.
[1:34:52] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It wasn't like you had this on the deck for a month and then you were like, what's it like, I should have a woman.
[1:34:57] \[SPEAKER_00\]: In fact, the opposite, we kept being like, there's no way we're gonna review obsession because like, we're like, it's a white meat.
[1:35:06] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah.
[1:35:07] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Oh, and it's like, whatever.
[1:35:08] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And then we were also kind of like, yes, this is a woman of color.
[1:35:13] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I put that in parentheses, not, not because it's like, she's Latino, but she's half Mexican, she looks white.
[1:35:20] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And I don't know if that Mexican side is white Mexican.
[1:35:22] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And I think there's white, and white Mexican is no one.
[1:35:27] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, do do do do do do when he when you said that in the beginning.
[1:35:30] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I don't know if you saw, but I started laughing because I because I was like, oh, wait, those were the diversitys of this movie, and I say that and I say that, I think it's a white Latina, you know what I mean, like I
[1:35:43] \[SPEAKER_03\]: But it's like, yeah, that would be I'm like, it's just what I see that.
[1:35:48] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I'm like, oh, yeah, that's what we're taking.
[1:35:50] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It's the white Mexicans.
[1:35:51] \[SPEAKER_03\]: They really get them all.
[1:35:52] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And hey, good for you guys.
[1:35:53] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Your ladies go, yeah.
[1:35:54] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Go get them.
[1:35:55] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You know?
[1:35:55] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But I'm like, but I'm like, dang, when that's the diversity.
[1:35:58] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Woo.
[1:35:59] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I don't want to talk.
[1:36:01] \[SPEAKER_02\]: We're in a tough spot.
[1:36:03] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Yeah, there are no other because there's no one in this.
[1:36:08] \[SPEAKER_02\]: There's one black.
[1:36:09] \[SPEAKER_02\]: There's a black friend in the, in the, in the, Oh, sorry, sorry.
[1:36:13] \[SPEAKER_02\]: He's the one.
[1:36:13] \[SPEAKER_02\]: He's the one.
[1:36:13] \[SPEAKER_02\]: He's the one.
[1:36:14] \[SPEAKER_02\]: He's the one.
[1:36:14] \[SPEAKER_02\]: He's the one.
[1:36:15] \[SPEAKER_02\]: He's the one.
[1:36:15] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Next Nick.
[1:36:20] \[SPEAKER_02\]: None of them are good friends.
[1:36:21] \[SPEAKER_02\]: None of them intervened.
[1:36:22] \[SPEAKER_02\]: No, I'm a good friend.
[1:36:24] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Well, it's so funny.
[1:36:25] \[SPEAKER_00\]: They told, they were like, go get her and she's just sitting there.
[1:36:28] \[SPEAKER_00\]: This is my other thing.
[1:36:29] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I was that moment.
[1:36:30] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I was like, this dude doesn't care about her at all.
[1:36:32] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Like, I don't know.
[1:36:33] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And I think, again, I don't, I do think it's too subtle.
[1:36:37] \[SPEAKER_00\]: You're right that it is too subtle for people to notice.
[1:36:39] \[SPEAKER_00\]: But again, hopefully they listen to podcast, they review whatever.
[1:36:42] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I think that moment is intentional, you can read that as he's just frozen and he's like his, his, you know, trauma responses to freeze, but I'm reading that as he is embarrassed.
[1:36:55] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, and it which is about him all he doesn't care that she's harming herself.
[1:36:59] \[SPEAKER_00\]: It's just all it's just about him.
[1:37:01] \[SPEAKER_00\]: He doesn't care about her.
[1:37:02] \[SPEAKER_00\]: He doesn't care that the real her has freaked out so much that she literally wants to kill herself.
[1:37:07] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Right.
[1:37:07] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And he doesn't care about that.
[1:37:09] \[SPEAKER_00\]: He later on in that night the yells that he's like he's basically yelling at here.
[1:37:13] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Why could he be saving with rage?
[1:37:16] \[SPEAKER_00\]: He's saving with rage.
[1:37:17] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And the rage is at her for being weird instead of like oh my god I trapped this woman in the literally the worst situation possible.
[1:37:27] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And the only way out of it is for me to kill myself.
[1:37:30] \[SPEAKER_00\]: You don't think like anyway
[1:37:32] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But man, but, but, but, but hey boys ain't it such a drag when your lady wants to come to boys night?
[1:37:43] \[SPEAKER_01\]: It wasn't even boys night.
[1:37:44] \[SPEAKER_01\]: It was a lie.
[1:37:45] \[SPEAKER_01\]: It was a lie.
[1:37:45] \[SPEAKER_01\]: It was a lie.
[1:37:46] \[SPEAKER_01\]: It was a lie.
[1:37:46] \[SPEAKER_01\]: It was a lie.
[1:37:47] \[SPEAKER_01\]: It was a lie.
[1:37:47] \[SPEAKER_01\]: It was a lie.
[1:37:47] \[SPEAKER_01\]: It was a lie.
[1:37:48] \[SPEAKER_01\]: It was a lie.
[1:37:49] \[SPEAKER_01\]: It was a lie.
[1:37:49] \[SPEAKER_01\]: It was a lie.
[1:37:49] \[SPEAKER_01\]: It was a lie.
[1:37:50] \[SPEAKER_00\]: It was a lie.
[1:37:50] \[SPEAKER_00\]: It was a lie.
[1:37:51] \[SPEAKER_00\]: It was a lie.
[1:37:51] \[SPEAKER_00\]: It was a lie.
[1:38:00] \[SPEAKER_00\]: But whether it helps the cause of leading actors of color and so for instance, if it fully helps the cause of leading actors of color and film, we give it a black fist, if it's somewhat helps the cause of we give it a white palm, if it doesn't really help the cause at all, we don't give it anything.
[1:38:21] \[SPEAKER_00\]: So it's not about it's artistic merit, it's not about whether we liked it, it's that like what it's the cause of this.
[1:38:27] \[SPEAKER_00\]: All right, and I know exactly what I'm like
[1:38:30] \[SPEAKER_00\]: on the count of three, like what I'm about to get.
[1:38:33] \[SPEAKER_00\]: One, two, three.
[1:38:36] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Okay.
[1:38:37] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Okay.
[1:38:38] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Okay.
[1:38:38] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Spain, you're so James James.
[1:38:40] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Keep it a palm.
[1:38:41] \[SPEAKER_00\]: We're back and I gave it nothing.
[1:38:43] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Wow.
[1:38:43] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Yeah, both gave it nothing.
[1:38:45] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Yeah.
[1:38:45] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Nothing.
[1:38:46] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And I, in fact, it reminded me that I had other things to say.
[1:38:49] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I had other things to say and forgot almost forgot.
[1:38:52] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Okay.
[1:38:52] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Well, I can't put it.
[1:38:53] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Okay.
[1:38:53] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Well, I'm letting you go first.
[1:38:55] \[SPEAKER_00\]: No, no, no, no, please.
[1:38:56] \[SPEAKER_00\]: No, you have to explain yourself first.
[1:38:59] \[SPEAKER_01\]: No, I would like to hear your thing go well, just for it, just for Andy, that's why, that's why, okay, yeah, I would love to give it any more, you know, that's why I don't like that I gave it a poem, I would love to give it any more because I do think that she's a stand out.
[1:39:14] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Like it's just like a game of 2014 type of performance in this but that's you know, that's sort of it and you know, you know, she's half Mexican and she's my presenting and all that stuff.
[1:39:27] \[SPEAKER_01\]: So so that's the that's why it's not more, but but but but a game of palm.
[1:39:35] \[SPEAKER_01\]: All right.
[1:39:37] \[SPEAKER_03\]: He did it.
[1:39:38] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Rebecca.
[1:39:40] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Well, what I did, I thought that I did have at some point during this movie is like, imagine, could you imagine this movie with two black leads?
[1:39:52] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Can you imagine them doing this movie ever with two black leads?
[1:39:55] \[SPEAKER_03\]: No, with so many, for a black woman and a black man, for so many movies.
[1:40:03] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Maybe some movie would be on say that was close to this.
[1:40:08] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I feel that.
[1:40:09] \[SPEAKER_01\]: But let me say it.
[1:40:10] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Idris.
[1:40:12] \[SPEAKER_03\]: How much, but I don't know.
[1:40:14] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I don't know.
[1:40:15] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I'm not familiar of that one.
[1:40:16] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I don't know, temptation.
[1:40:18] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Oh, temptation.
[1:40:19] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Oh, yeah, temptation.
[1:40:20] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It's not the same at all.
[1:40:21] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It's not the same at all.
[1:40:22] \[SPEAKER_01\]: It's not the same at all.
[1:40:23] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I, I just, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't,
[1:40:29] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I think any time I just pose that little like question to myself of like, could imagine X, Y, Z with only black people.
[1:40:38] \[SPEAKER_01\]: And the ways that it's like so vehemently say, I'm so sorry, this movie is called Obsessed.
[1:40:45] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Obsessed.
[1:40:45] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Obsessed sounds familiar, but it's not in it.
[1:40:49] \[SPEAKER_01\]: And Beyonce, Beyonce is in it, but it's not the crazy person.
[1:40:53] \[SPEAKER_01\]: It's Sally.
[1:40:53] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Isn't it Jennifer?
[1:40:55] \[SPEAKER_01\]: It's who?
[1:40:55] \[SPEAKER_00\]: No, it's Beyonce and Idris.
[1:40:58] \[SPEAKER_01\]: if you aren't saying it just, but the person that's obsessed I think is Ali Larder.
[1:41:03] \[SPEAKER_01\]: So it's fine.
[1:41:04] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yes, right, right, right, right, it's not even.
[1:41:07] \[SPEAKER_01\]: It's not even.
[1:41:09] \[SPEAKER_01\]: It already was not the same movie, but.
[1:41:11] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Right, well, that's the thing.
[1:41:12] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It's like when I know when I know that like the, because like, let's be real, like the way I know that a black man could not be this character and do these same things like.
[1:41:29] \[SPEAKER_02\]: it's done it's done negative things for the black community here and in this in this sense of like whatever you propose that and it's so obvious like obviously no and and yeah I think it's it's like I've said I think it's a Trojan Hartford horse for actually white supremacy patriarchy and many ways when you think about it
[1:41:46] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Because those are, I mean, how can we sit?
[1:41:48] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Because ultimately, those are the things I'm seeing on screen.
[1:41:51] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And in our way, yeah, it does not.
[1:41:53] \[SPEAKER_01\]: There's going to be people who's going to be like, oh, look at, look at you.
[1:41:55] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Representation matters.
[1:41:57] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Like, it's absolutely.
[1:41:58] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Like, there's going to be people, they're going to, they're going to paint people in a, they're talking about that.
[1:42:04] \[SPEAKER_02\]: That's the girl on her period.
[1:42:05] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I know it.
[1:42:06] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I know they're doing it all the time.
[1:42:08] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And that's where I'm scared.
[1:42:10] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It's spooky scared about consent.
[1:42:12] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Also where it's like, isn't it crazy where sometimes a girl's feeling it?
[1:42:14] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And then she acts like she's not, but then she kind of keeps going with it.
[1:42:17] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Like, you know, like those little moments where it's like, and then no, and it's like, isn't it weird how the girls do that?
[1:42:23] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And then we keep doing it and we're not questioning it.
[1:42:25] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Anyways, I won't get into consent back anymore.
[1:42:28] \[SPEAKER_03\]: But but yeah, no, it's it has not helped.
[1:42:31] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And if anything, I'm like, and this, she's great.
[1:42:35] \[SPEAKER_03\]: She's great.
[1:42:35] \[SPEAKER_03\]: This, indeed.
[1:42:37] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And like everyone, it's not their, their, their faults, but I'm like, oh my god, when we're pushing the, the, the straight brown hair.
[1:42:47] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It's like simply being a brunette is diverse to be brunette is diverse now.
[1:42:52] \[SPEAKER_03\]: This is horrible.
[1:42:53] \[SPEAKER_02\]: This is a horrible thing to be pushing.
[1:42:55] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And we really need to be good.
[1:42:57] \[SPEAKER_00\]: She's great.
[1:42:58] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I hope Greg's for her, but she's also like one of the most conventionally attractive people.
[1:43:02] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Right.
[1:43:02] \[SPEAKER_00\]: It's like freaking me girl.
[1:43:03] \[SPEAKER_00\]: She's like, yeah, she's like, she's like, yeah.
[1:43:04] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, she's like, she's like, yeah, she's like, she's like, she's like, she's like, yeah, she's like, she's like, she's like, yeah, she's like, she's like, yeah, she's like, she's like, yeah, she's like, she's like, yeah, she's like, she's like, yeah, she's like, she's like, yeah, she's like, she's like, yeah, she's like, she's like, she's like, yeah, she's like, she's like,
[1:43:12] \[SPEAKER_00\]: It's not always a tour de force performance, I'm just going to say no, I'm just going to say no, I'm just going to say no, I'm just going to say no, I'm just going to say no, I'm just going to say no, I'm just going to say no, I'm just going to say no, I'm just saying no, I'm just saying no, I'm just saying no, I'm just saying no, I'm just saying no, I'm just saying no, I'm just saying no, I'm just saying no, I'm just saying no, I'm just saying no, I'm just saying no, I'm just saying no, I'm just saying no, I'm just saying no, I'm just saying no, I'm just saying no, I'm just saying no, I'm just saying no, I'm just saying no, I'm just saying no, I'm just saying no, I'm just saying no, I'm just saying no, I'm just saying no, I'm just saying no
[1:43:35] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I don't, it probably won't cause horror, but like, you know, they've done it a little bit here and there, um, and then especially if they stick around like best supporting category, which they might because they're like technically you're half Mexican, um, and so that's where you guys go in the supporting category.
[1:43:50] \[SPEAKER_00\]: So yeah, but.
[1:43:53] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I couldn't give it a, I couldn't give it anything because it's a little bit of my vindizo thing, it's a little bit of my like when somebody is so fair skinned that like no one would know that you are a, you know, a person, a person of all.
[1:44:13] \[SPEAKER_02\]: When it's so ambiguous.
[1:44:14] \[SPEAKER_00\]: It's so ambiguous.
[1:44:15] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Like somebody has to tell you.
[1:44:18] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Yeah, weapons, of course.
[1:44:19] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Thank you.
[1:44:19] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Thank you.
[1:44:19] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Scott got a win for best supporting actor actually.
[1:44:24] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I mean, oh, yeah, perfect.
[1:44:25] \[SPEAKER_00\]: But I do think that like.
[1:44:28] \[SPEAKER_00\]: It wouldn't have worked if she was, if she was like darker skin.
[1:44:32] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Like if she was brown, even.
[1:44:34] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Not even, I'm not even saying brown.
[1:44:35] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Like if she was brown, I do think that people would have been like, well, there would be any other conversation that that would not be equipped to have, you know?
[1:44:42] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Right.
[1:44:43] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Exactly.
[1:44:44] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And so it's hard to say that this will, you know, I don't know if he, I don't know.
[1:44:49] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I hope she gets more roles great, but like, I, I don't know, it's tough.
[1:44:53] \[SPEAKER_00\]: These things are tough for me.
[1:44:54] \[SPEAKER_00\]: So I don't give it anything, sorry.
[1:44:57] \[SPEAKER_00\]: But I went white palm.
[1:44:59] \[SPEAKER_00\]: That being said, I liked the film.
[1:45:02] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I did like the film.
[1:45:03] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Anyway, uh, thank Rebecca.
[1:45:06] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I'm sorry.
[1:45:06] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I'm sorry.
[1:45:07] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I'm sorry.

[1:45:16] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I'm sorry.
[1:45:16] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I'm sorry.
[1:45:17] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I'm sorry.
[1:45:17] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I'm sorry.
[1:45:18] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I'm sorry.
[1:45:18] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I'm sorry.
[1:45:19] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I'm sorry.
[1:45:19] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I'm sorry.
[1:45:20] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I'm sorry.
[1:45:20] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I'm sorry.
[1:45:20] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I'm sorry.
[1:45:21] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I'm sorry.
[1:45:21] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I'm sorry.

[1:45:22] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I'm sorry.
[1:45:23] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I'm sorry.
[1:45:23] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I'm sorry.
[1:45:23] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I'm sorry.

[1:46:12] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Sometimes it's simply about abolishing the police.
[1:46:14] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But that is the spectrum of life.
[1:46:17] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And some people say Rebecca, what if you had to?
[1:46:19] \[SPEAKER_03\]: What if you focused?
[1:46:20] \[SPEAKER_03\]: What if you focused?
