## Transcript

[0:07] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Welcome to Blackman can't jump on Patreon.
[0:10] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Patreon, sit at it.
[0:12] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Yeah, I mean, I'm trying to think what are the standout things from this?
[0:17] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Like, I know I don't normally do quotes beginning, but oh, I could do, um, I could just do like, uh, just for all times sake.
[0:23] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Blah, blah, blah, blah!
[0:24] \[SPEAKER_00\]: This for all times sake, because there's a really, there's a really, there's a really, there's a really, there's a really, there's a really, there's a really, there's a really, there's a really, there's a really,
[0:31] \[SPEAKER_00\]: No, there's just, there's a really prominent, uh, shooting.
[0:36] \[SPEAKER_00\]: That happens in this movie.
[0:37] \[SPEAKER_00\]: That's this, but, yeah, but.
[0:39] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And so, one really, one really, one really important.
[0:45] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I don't, I don't remember like exact lines, but there is something, there is something along the line of like, like, you grew, you grew tomato.
[0:58] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Yes, yeah, there is a line like that.
[1:00] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Yeah, there certainly is and then what is a little girl say like There are people in the water There are people yeah in the rain people in the rain people in the rain.
[1:12] \[SPEAKER_00\]: There's someone in the rain.
[1:13] \[SPEAKER_00\]: There's someone in the rain That sounds like a line for the movie.
[1:17] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I don't know if that is, but I bet it Let me try to think one more.
[1:22] \[SPEAKER_01\]: This will be the last house
[1:24] \[SPEAKER_00\]: All right.
[1:25] \[SPEAKER_00\]: That doesn't even.
[1:26] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Why?
[1:30] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Why, I'm not going to go on all day.
[1:32] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I'm not going to go on all day trying to guess lines from the movie.
[1:36] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Okay, so I just could have tried one more and this will be the last house.
[1:42] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Okay, all right.
[1:43] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Great.
[1:43] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Good.
[1:43] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Yeah.
[1:43] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Good.
[1:44] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Good.
[1:44] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Hopefully nothing will actually follow that.
[1:46] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Hopefully we'll stop right there.
[1:50] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Oh, what the heck?
[1:51] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I mean, we take this a quote at house, is what I'm talking about, like why?
[1:55] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Well, I'm trying to build, I'm trying to build this podcast, break, check my joke.
[2:19] \[SPEAKER_01\]: guys what do you what do we why are you listening to us now i'm just kidding uh this episode yeah and here's the thing it's because a lot of people saw this movie
[2:32] \[SPEAKER_01\]: You know what I mean?
[2:33] \[SPEAKER_00\]: That's true.
[2:34] \[SPEAKER_00\]: That's true.
[2:35] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Listen, we are a film review podcast.
[2:38] \[SPEAKER_01\]: We review the films of leading black actors and talk about them in the context of race and diversity in Hollywood.
[2:43] \[SPEAKER_01\]: We also sometimes review movies with leading actors of color, okay?
[2:48] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Maybe they're not black, but perhaps their Asian, perhaps their Latino, things like that, and this movie we got both, okay?
[2:56] \[SPEAKER_01\]: But the other thing is, we got both, you know, this is Patreon, okay?
[3:02] \[SPEAKER_01\]: We're gonna do whatever movie, okay, whatever movie we want.
[3:06] \[SPEAKER_01\]: And if you guys don't like that, let us know.
[3:09] \[SPEAKER_01\]: But I think you do.
[3:10] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I think you do.
[3:11] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I think you want to hear some of our opinions on movies that don't necessarily have a black lead because on the free podcast, we're still doing the black leads and on the patriots.
[3:20] \[SPEAKER_01\]: We're doing everything, okay?
[3:21] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Bring it on.
[3:22] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Bring it on.
[3:23] \[SPEAKER_01\]: All right, films.
[3:25] \[SPEAKER_01\]: We're doing Avengers doomsday.
[3:26] \[SPEAKER_01\]: We're doing doing doing part three.
[3:27] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Okay, I'm just guessing But I see those come out.
[3:31] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Oh, no, they don't come out.
[3:32] \[SPEAKER_00\]: You know, both those come out on the same day, and it's around Christmas, right?
[3:36] \[SPEAKER_01\]: So that you're coming out on the same day
[3:39] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Yeah, it's doing.
[3:40] \[SPEAKER_01\]: How did that, baby?
[3:41] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Dude, it's doing.
[3:43] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I think that's a great name, but also why would they ever?
[3:46] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Why did they?
[3:47] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Because I think I think what happened was Barbonheimer did so well that people have stopped caring about pitting.
[3:57] \[SPEAKER_00\]: to giant blockbusters against each other on the same day.
[4:00] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Like it used to be, if another highly anticipated movie was coming out, it would never come out on the same chair.
[4:08] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I just feel like those Barbie and Oppenheimer, the reason it worked because, and I understand this is a little reductionist, okay, and a lot of people, including us, right, saw both.
[4:21] \[SPEAKER_01\]: But it was a little bit like,
[4:23] \[SPEAKER_01\]: one for the fellas and one for the guys.
[4:28] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Yeah, here's a little bit of, here's a little bit of comedy.
[4:31] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Here's a little bit of drama, right?
[4:33] \[SPEAKER_01\]: It's like there's so, so movies are so drastically different.
[4:36] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Yeah, they're so different.
[4:37] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Like even if it's not down to what you to that, it's they are so different that they can do well, you know.
[4:43] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Correct.
[4:44] \[SPEAKER_00\]: But you expect them to learn the right lesson?
[4:47] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Yeah.
[4:48] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Yeah, it's like them to learn to me, any two and part three and doomsday are that's the same bucket where it's literally the same bucket.
[4:57] \[SPEAKER_01\]: We're in sci-fi.
[4:58] \[SPEAKER_01\]: We're in freaking, you know, massive blockbuster trilogy, you know, are not trilogy for Avengers.
[5:05] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Yeah, fourth one.
[5:05] \[SPEAKER_00\]: But, you know, you would have a lot of people saying, I, I see a net shit.
[5:10] \[SPEAKER_00\]: It's also the, it's the fifth of
[5:18] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Right, it's the fifth one right because I just forgot age of electronics is this and it's like and it's really like they're doing like this is yet another third beat Something that they ended like I Using the word phase right because they've no it's still do it
[5:40] \[SPEAKER_01\]: They're pretending now they're pretending when they're pretending when they're pretending when they're pretending when they're pretending when they're pretending when they're pretending when they're pretending when they're pretending when they're pretending when they're pretending when they're pretending when they're pretending when they're pretending when they're pretending when they're pretending when they're pretending when they're pretending when they're pretending when they're pretending when they're pretending when they're pretending when they're pretending when they're pretending when they're pretending when they're pretending when they're pretending when they're pretending when they're pretending when they're pretending when they're pretending when they're pretending when they're pretending when they're pretending when they're pretending when they're pretending when they're pretending when they're pretending when they're pretending when they're pretending when they're pretending when they're pretending when they're pretending when they're pretending when they're pretending when they're pretending when they're pretending when they're pretending when they're pretending when they're pretending when they're pretending when they're pretending when they're pretending when they're pretending when they're pretending
[6:08] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I guess we're making money for Gerard and he's making money for Gerard and we're making money for Gerard and Gerard.
[6:15] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And that is what this is about.
[6:18] \[SPEAKER_00\]: That's why we're doing it.
[6:21] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Wait a minute.
[6:23] \[SPEAKER_00\]: We want to make sure we put money in that man's pockets.
[6:25] \[SPEAKER_00\]: That's what we're trying to do.
[6:26] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Okay, we help each other out.
[6:28] \[SPEAKER_01\]: And the voice you're listening to now.
[6:31] \[SPEAKER_01\]: That.
[6:34] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Honestly,
[6:36] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I don't know if I would ever give up trying to break out of the house.
[6:39] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Oh, really.
[6:40] \[SPEAKER_00\]: You would never give up trying to break out of the house.
[6:41] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Out of that clearly locked like never like.
[6:46] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I just couldn't believe it.
[6:49] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I just would feel like there's just no way.
[6:52] \[SPEAKER_01\]: There's just no way.
[6:54] \[SPEAKER_01\]: And you and you would have been correct.
[6:56] \[SPEAKER_01\]: You would have been correct.
[6:58] \[SPEAKER_01\]: They did figure it out.
[6:59] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Years away.
[6:59] \[SPEAKER_00\]: There was a way to get out.
[7:02] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Years later they figured it out.
[7:06] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Um, all right.
[7:07] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Well, uh, that's the aim of that.
[7:08] \[SPEAKER_01\]: My name is Jonathan Braylakis, but I'm trying to say.
[7:10] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Okay.
[7:11] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Yeah, and this voice who would have died just whenever the period of time.
[7:15] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Wait, whatever the period of time we ran out of food.
[7:17] \[SPEAKER_00\]: You ran out of food or you, you know, you haven't had enough clean water or whatever that period of time that a person can live.
[7:23] \[SPEAKER_00\]: That's probably around when I would have expired.
[7:25] \[SPEAKER_00\]: That voice is James at that now.
[7:28] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Just, you know, we're gonna get into initial thoughts and cut it off for you free listeners.
[7:33] \[SPEAKER_01\]: But before that, before that, I just am curious, James.
[7:37] \[SPEAKER_01\]: You said you would have died then, would you have a let yourself die of dehydration and or starvation?
[7:44] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Or would you be like, this is over, let me try to find a way to take my own life.
[7:51] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Ooh, what I have taken my own life.
[7:55] \[SPEAKER_00\]: because I just feel like dehydration is good.
[7:57] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Such a hard way to die, but maybe it's not, I don't know.
[8:02] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Obviously, I just feel like
[8:05] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I guess it would depend, I guess, yeah, that is actually a great question.
[8:09] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I guess it would depend on whatever, either one of those things was doing to me mentally, you know.
[8:16] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Like, I don't think I would have a, I would have a problem with not being able to leave.
[8:20] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I guess maybe I'm not thinking about what it would mean to not think that I can leave at any moment, but I don't think that that would have bothered me as much.
[8:31] \[SPEAKER_00\]: as like yeah, like whatever point I start getting delirious from the food or delirious from the right, from the water.
[8:38] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Then maybe, yeah, maybe I would take matters in my own hand.
[8:43] \[SPEAKER_01\]: The last house.
[8:44] \[SPEAKER_01\]: All right, right before we do initial thoughts, let's just talk about this.
[8:47] \[SPEAKER_01\]: This is a Netflix film.
[8:49] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Okay, came out, um, several weeks ago, it's been, it's been doing, um, amazing.
[9:00] \[SPEAKER_01\]: you know minutes watch which I don't I don't really understand the the system but Netflix releases like they're like hey here's our most watch top 10 movies and it's been in the top five for like the entire month of August that came out August 7th it stars
[9:26] \[SPEAKER_01\]: We do we do know he's in the secret most most boring.
[9:31] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I think most famously or most recently the secret agent Which that did pretty well.
[9:37] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I got nominated for a few and did he wind up getting nominated or did he get snubbed?
[9:43] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Let's thank you guys the awards Words
[9:48] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Yeah, there's a lot of award nominations, but they're all things that I don't write.
[9:52] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Yeah, golden gold.
[9:53] \[SPEAKER_00\]: International.
[9:54] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Yeah, he was nominated for the best actor in the Golden Club, but he didn't wind up getting that Academy Award nomination thing.
[10:00] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Anyway, I think a lot of people know him from Narcos.
[10:03] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Probably.
[10:03] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Ah, OK.
[10:05] \[SPEAKER_01\]: He was also in Civil War.
[10:06] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Yeah.
[10:08] \[SPEAKER_01\]: He's been around.
[10:08] \[SPEAKER_01\]: He's a Brazilian actor, and then incredibly obviously, you know, incredibly, right, but most of this year, he did get it.
[10:18] \[SPEAKER_00\]: He did get one.
[10:19] \[SPEAKER_00\]: This year, yeah, it looks like it.
[10:21] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Oh, he was not made.
[10:22] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Okay.
[10:23] \[SPEAKER_01\]: He was not made for the secret agent.
[10:24] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Yeah.
[10:25] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Okay.
[10:25] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Okay.
[10:26] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Yeah.
[10:28] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I know there was like a couple of people who were on the fringe.
[10:31] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Okay.
[10:31] \[SPEAKER_01\]: He did get nominated.
[10:32] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Great.
[10:33] \[SPEAKER_01\]: So, you know, they got two actors who've been in prestigious films.
[10:39] \[SPEAKER_01\]: And then they decided to do the last house.
[10:42] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Yeah, yeah, the order was they were like, they put them on hold for something.
[10:51] \[SPEAKER_00\]: They got those actors first.
[10:53] \[SPEAKER_00\]: They were like, what do we?
[10:55] \[SPEAKER_00\]: What do we want y'all to do?
[10:56] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Um, okay.
[10:57] \[SPEAKER_01\]: So the last house.
[11:00] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Do you want to take a guess at the ride to me to describe me?
[11:03] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I'm a go with not sure.
[11:04] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I'm a go with.
[11:07] \[SPEAKER_00\]: this is okay.
[11:08] \[SPEAKER_00\]: I don't know how rude I should be in what I guess.
[11:11] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I'm going to guess 50s.
[11:15] \[SPEAKER_01\]: You're aiming high.
[11:15] \[SPEAKER_01\]: It's 22%.
[11:16] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Damn.
[11:18] \[SPEAKER_00\]: That is lower than I would have said.
[11:20] \[SPEAKER_00\]: That's lower than I would have said.
[11:21] \[SPEAKER_01\]: And maybe lower than I.
[11:23] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Maybe lower than I think.
[11:24] \[SPEAKER_01\]: 27% popcorn meter, which is.
[11:27] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Whoa.
[11:30] \[SPEAKER_01\]: You don't want it to be that, yeah, you don't want it to be that low over the audience as well.
[11:35] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Like the critics, you understand the audience.
[11:37] \[SPEAKER_00\]: The same, that's the same.
[11:39] \[SPEAKER_01\]: You know, I do think that the premise of the film is so strong that people, and maybe the marketing that people saw it.
[11:47] \[SPEAKER_01\]: So it's a family of four suddenly sealed inside their home.
[11:52] \[SPEAKER_01\]: with no way out.
[11:54] \[SPEAKER_01\]: They must work together to survive against both their Dwindling resources and the mysterious looming threat that is keeping them trapped.
[12:04] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Yes.
[12:05] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Uh, yeah.
[12:06] \[SPEAKER_01\]: So shall we, uh, you want to get into initial thoughts?
