[3:30] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Also Harold is in the Matrix sequels.
[3:33] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yes.
[3:33] \[SPEAKER_08\]: He's really good.
[3:34] \[SPEAKER_08\]: He's in both of them, right?

[3:37] \[SPEAKER_08\]: He's in both of them.
[3:38] \[SPEAKER_04\]: He's in both of them.
[3:39] \[SPEAKER_04\]: He's in both of them.
[3:40] \[SPEAKER_04\]: He's in both of them.
[3:41] \[SPEAKER_04\]: He's in both of them.
[3:42] \[SPEAKER_04\]: He's in both of them.
[3:42] \[SPEAKER_04\]: He's in both of them.
[3:43] \[SPEAKER_04\]: He's in both of them.
[3:43] \[SPEAKER_04\]: He's in both of them.
[3:44] \[SPEAKER_04\]: He's in both of them.
[3:44] \[SPEAKER_04\]: He's in both of them.
[3:45] \[SPEAKER_04\]: He's in both of them.
[3:45] \[SPEAKER_04\]: He's in both of them.
[3:46] \[SPEAKER_04\]: He's in both of them.
[3:46] \[SPEAKER_04\]: He's in both of them.
[3:47] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Oh, oh, we got Monica Calhoun.
[3:50] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Oh, yes.
[3:51] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Oh, and I'm in a very one from Melissa D. Sousa.
[3:54] \[SPEAKER_09\]: No, I don't I don't know her, but she's done a lot she's done a lot I think she's a just suck man cuz I'm like yeah, she's a great actress and just like how you will let you pick one
[4:06] \[SPEAKER_09\]: You get one famous by the way.
[4:08] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[4:09] \[SPEAKER_04\]: You get one highly berry.
[4:10] \[SPEAKER_04\]: You get like, you know, so the best man holiday came out in 2013.
[4:14] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I believe.
[4:15] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yes.
[4:16] \[SPEAKER_04\]: That is great.
[4:17] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It is a sequel to The Best Man, which was a very...
[4:22] \[SPEAKER_04\]: popular hit at least in the in the black community.
[4:25] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah, I think it made like 34 million out of like a nine million dollar budget I mean just yeah, yeah, and the best man holiday was 17 million dollar budget and it made 70 to The director is Malcolm D. Lee also wrote the film the screenwriter as well
[4:43] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Uh, and you know, it's basically, it's very simple.
[4:47] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It's just a bunch of friends are hanging out around the holidays and some drama in suit.
[4:52] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah.
[4:53] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Because you know, you know, the best man was about, uh, take the exes character.
[4:58] \[SPEAKER_09\]: He wrote a book about his group of friends in the book, though, had all these secrets.
[5:02] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Yeah.
[5:03] \[SPEAKER_09\]: And based like his best friend, more, it's just that it was getting married.
[5:05] \[SPEAKER_09\]: And in the book, he tells the story about how he slept.
[5:08] \[SPEAKER_09\]: with his fiancée right now.
[5:11] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I have a question about that because I didn't see the original Did when Tadeg slept with Morris Chessnets fiancée it was that when they were
[5:20] \[SPEAKER_04\]: because though he slept with the fiance because more it's just not actually cheated on his.
[5:24] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah, yeah, but this was like, this is how he hears years, years, years, previous and the other thing I was going to ask was was Tadeg's with Sonal, Nathan at the time when he slept with his no best friends.
[5:35] \[SPEAKER_04\]: No, right.
[5:36] \[SPEAKER_09\]: They like, Sonal, you never see how they meet, but like in the first movie she's there to begin and then she's there at the end.
[5:42] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Cause she's not like a big part.
[5:43] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Yeah, she's not like one of the friends.
[5:45] \[SPEAKER_09\]: She's like his fiance, right, right.
[5:47] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Right.
[5:48] \[SPEAKER_08\]: It's been a long time since I've seen them.
[5:50] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I've never seen them.
[5:51] \[SPEAKER_04\]: They give me a good recap if they're really good recap.
[5:53] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah.
[5:54] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I actually didn't even look to see what the first movie was until after I watched the best man holiday, but I followed the best man holiday pretty well.
[6:01] \[SPEAKER_04\]: The only thing that I wasn't 100% sure on was.
[6:06] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It wasn't fully explained that Morse Chestnut, like cheated.
[6:10] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It was like hinted at, but like it wasn't fully explained whereas the other stuff was, but then I was like, oh, okay, I get it.
[6:15] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I did realize that because they were like, they told T-Diggs, like, sorry, Monica's character.
[6:21] \[SPEAKER_04\]: This is gonna be a little confusing when we talk about this, is it?
[6:24] \[SPEAKER_08\]: Yeah, there's a lot of story, there's a lot of story, a lot of story, a lot of story, a lot of story, a lot of story, a lot of story, a lot of story,
[6:28] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It doesn't, it's not, it's not, it's not, it's not, it's not, it's not, it's not, it's not, it's not, it's not, it's not, it's not, it's not, it's not, it's not, it's not, it's not, it's not, it's not, it's not, it's not, it's not, it's not, it's not, it's not, it's not, it's not, it's not, it's not, it's not, it's not, it's not, it's not, it's not, it's not, it's not, it's not, it's not, it's not, it's not, it's not, it's not, it's not, it's not, it's not, it's not, it's not, it's not, it's not, it's not, it's not, it's not, it's not, it's not, it's not
[6:58] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Do you know how holiday films, holiday films, the for real, though?
[7:04] \[SPEAKER_04\]: This part of the list count.
[7:05] \[SPEAKER_04\]: So you got the Preacher's wife?
[7:07] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Preacher's wife.
[7:07] \[SPEAKER_04\]: That's the one I wanted to watch.
[7:08] \[SPEAKER_04\]: You got this Christmas.
[7:10] \[SPEAKER_04\]: You got this Christmas.
[7:11] \[SPEAKER_04\]: You got the perfect holiday with Morris Chestnut.
[7:14] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And then if you want to cheat, you got trading places.
[7:18] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Yeah, Friday after next Friday after next.
[7:21] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yep.
[7:22] \[SPEAKER_09\]: What's that one?
[7:23] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Um, it's a musical one with Queen of Teethas.
[7:25] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah, Queen of Teethas.
[7:26] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Oh, actually really like that movie.
[7:27] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah.
[7:28] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Um, and it's also something with holiday in it.
[7:30] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Right.
[7:31] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Like last holiday.
[7:31] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Last holiday.
[7:33] \[SPEAKER_09\]: She has to.
[7:34] \[SPEAKER_09\]: She has to.
[7:34] \[SPEAKER_09\]: She has another one.
[7:35] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Like I remember the last holiday, but she has a music is like a church.
[7:39] \[SPEAKER_09\]: It's joyful noise.
[7:41] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Yeah.
[7:41] \[SPEAKER_09\]: It's one more.
[7:42] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Hey, guys, if you know what I'm talking about, just to make sure I've seen joyful noise, but I can't really hate it.
[7:47] \[SPEAKER_04\]: But if you have it like Christmas, anyway, so I feel like for whatever reason.
[7:51] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Sorry, let's go into first impressions.
[7:52] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Let's go into first part.
[7:54] \[SPEAKER_08\]: I, I really enjoyed it.
[7:56] \[SPEAKER_08\]: I thought it was great.
[7:58] \[SPEAKER_08\]: Yeah.
[7:58] \[SPEAKER_08\]: I don't know what.
[7:59] \[SPEAKER_08\]: I don't know what I want to say.
[8:00] \[SPEAKER_08\]: I mean like it's now when you say great do you mean great for a Christmas movie or just like a great movie?
[8:06] \[SPEAKER_08\]: No like I think I mean I mean I wouldn't put it in like my top it wouldn't be on a top list but like but I really I didn't see it when it was out in theaters so and I and I like didn't go like I chose not to go you're like that but um but now after
[8:23] \[SPEAKER_08\]: After seeing it, I was like, oh, I'm going to go see this, the sequel to this, in the theaters.
[8:29] \[SPEAKER_08\]: I'm going to make sure that I go to see it because I enjoyed this one so much.
[8:35] \[SPEAKER_08\]: The story was so interesting and I usually don't like, I usually don't like those movies, those ensemble movies where it's like, we're going to weave all the stories to, you know, like, you know, we're going to follow all these.
[8:46] \[SPEAKER_08\]: I usually don't like those kinds of movies, but I really liked this one.
[8:50] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Nice.
[8:51] \[SPEAKER_09\]: You know what?
[8:52] \[SPEAKER_09\]: I remember texting you guys immediately.
[8:54] \[SPEAKER_08\]: Yeah.
[8:55] \[SPEAKER_09\]: It was really terrible.
[8:56] \[SPEAKER_09\]: I remember it.
[8:58] \[SPEAKER_09\]: And the thing is, how far into it?
[9:00] \[SPEAKER_09\]: I mean, like the first 15 minutes hurt me.
[9:01] \[SPEAKER_09\]: But the thing is, any one of these kind of movies, 15 minutes, and I'm like, oh, this is way too corny for me to even get into.
[9:08] \[SPEAKER_09\]: But watching it, I'm like, I really like this movie.
[9:10] \[SPEAKER_09\]: And then at the end of it, I was like, why do I hate what I thought to question that just like, why do I not want to see this movie at first, right?
[9:17] \[SPEAKER_09\]: And why do I automatically assume that I was going to hate it?
[9:19] \[SPEAKER_09\]: And the thing is, not in the thing is, it's a question.
[9:22] \[SPEAKER_09\]: I feel like, and I put most of them on myself.
[9:25] \[SPEAKER_09\]: I feel like sometimes even on this podcast, we talk about black films, the football films in a bad light.
[9:30] \[SPEAKER_09\]: And I'm like, is it, is it this weird pre-disposed thing of like, like, Hollywood?
[9:37] \[SPEAKER_09\]: And I'm not going to blame Hollywood.
[9:38] \[SPEAKER_09\]: But,
[9:38] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Blackfield, I think you can't put that inside this, but yeah, this thing of like this This negative stigma towards black 100% I mean it.
[9:50] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It's kind that's directly connected to why I didn't see it in the feet right I let me just I agree I agree with both of you because I thought honestly when the you want my real first impression of this movie was
[10:06] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Oh, this is the movie Tyler Perry keeps trying to make and fails that miss.
[10:11] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yes, yeah, that's literally what's my first impression.
[10:14] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I was like, oh, this is the movie Tyler, like these are, this is the, and the fact that matters, Tyler Perry movies are so popular in just the, like, not that people have even seen them, but just the idea of Tyler Perry movies are so popular that whenever we see a movie with a black cast,
[10:30] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Like you think of that now, it's not even Tyler Perry's fault.
[10:33] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Like honestly, we, I think we put too much with him on Tyler Perry.
[10:35] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Tyler Perry is trying to do his thing.
[10:37] \[SPEAKER_04\]: You know what I mean?
[10:37] \[SPEAKER_04\]: We need more, and other people.
[10:39] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I laugh out loud at Tyler Perry moves.
[10:41] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah, there are some, there are some parts that are genuinely funny in Tyler Perry moves, there are some parts that are genuinely funny.
[10:47] \[SPEAKER_09\]: So, Tyler Perry make a dark skin, do the hero, screw, Tyler Perry, and if you've seen his movies, you know what I'm talking about, Tyler?
[10:53] \[SPEAKER_08\]: Yeah, I mean, yeah, okay.
[10:55] \[SPEAKER_08\]: No, but what what what you're saying I saw a talk in like 2009 maybe 2010 with Malcolm Lee who's the director of this movie and he said something very he said something similar about Tyler Perry movies that like that and I and I have said this in the past, but I don't think it has made it to the podcast But I've said this on the recording, but he has said that like
[11:18] \[SPEAKER_08\]: that because of exactly what you just said, the popularity of Tyler Perry movies, that is what the upper echelon at Hollywood views as being black movies, which is why and like, and because they really can't relate to that, it's a direct part of what is difficult
[11:40] \[SPEAKER_08\]: because they just assume they're going to be like those other moves that they don't care.
[11:45] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Because here's the thing, I think in early on, before Tyler Perry movies, whenever audiences would see a movie with an all black cast, Hollywood and people assumed that movie is just for black people.
[11:57] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Now they didn't assume the movie was bad, they just assumed that it was for black people and they don't have to watch it.
[12:02] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Now I feel like when people see an all black cast, they assume the movie is going to be bad.
[12:07] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Like you feel like people assume like when they see an alt black cast and it's marketed in this way Where you feel like it's a black quote unquote black film a fubu film.
[12:16] \[SPEAKER_04\]: They're like all that movie is probably not good But I would argue take the best man holiday put it up against
[12:24] \[SPEAKER_04\]: the holiday with like, you know, freaking jack black and I don't know.
[12:28] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Those people who you know what I'm talking about?
[12:30] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah, the one is, yeah, take that, take it, put it up against love actually.
[12:35] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I'm telling you, yeah, the best man holiday stands on its own and is arguably better.
[12:40] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I honestly, then I then love, I don't agree with that.
[12:43] \[SPEAKER_09\]: And actually life love actually is interesting because watching this movie and again, like starting off, I was like, man, I hate this.
[12:49] \[SPEAKER_09\]: I hate this.
[12:49] \[SPEAKER_09\]: But as I started going on, I'm like, man, the acting,
[12:52] \[SPEAKER_09\]: It's so good, it's so good, it's so good, it's so good, and the thing is, and again, I'm gonna keep Harper's on this good.
[13:00] \[SPEAKER_09\]: It was such a thing as like I honestly am ashamed that like this movie had to win me over.
[13:06] \[SPEAKER_09\]: You know what I'm saying?
[13:07] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Like it's true.
[13:07] \[SPEAKER_09\]: It's like anything is, it shouldn't have had to do that.
[13:09] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Don't watch this movie.
[13:10] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Like,
[13:11] \[SPEAKER_03\]: because all the actors are amazing all of a sudden we know that they're amazing.
[13:15] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It's not like we're not like sitting back here Thinking like I've never heard a T-Diggs everybody knows T-Diggs everybody knows more Everybody knows more.
[13:21] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Chestnut and Terence Howard is an Academy of like award not many more.
[13:25] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I mean you know nominee Yeah, you have I mean so now lathe and who's been incredible and love and basketball and all these other movies like Everyone is long has been so long
[13:35] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Great career, you know Regina Hall is amazing.
[13:38] \[SPEAKER_08\]: They're all they're all doing and not only are they amazing But in this film they're doing phenomenal.
[13:45] \[SPEAKER_09\]: And you know, well, yes, film shows you every Not every type but it shows you a vast range of black characters like you have you have like you know your social media chick who just wants to you know
[13:57] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Talks about something.
[13:58] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Not just a game character, it's just characters.
[14:00] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Yeah, but that's, but the, the original I said black characters because, you know, oftentimes in films and I know we talk about it sometimes.
[14:05] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Like, you see one type.
[14:07] \[SPEAKER_09\]: You had every, you had every, you saw us as humans in all different types of humans.
[14:11] \[SPEAKER_09\]: It was like, you had turns out who was still like, the frappable single dude, single dude, you know, you had more chestnut, the God loving man who cared about his family, like you had everything you needed in this film.
[14:24] \[SPEAKER_08\]: All right, this, like we have talked about this in the past and the relation, when we talked about barbershop and how those characters to us seemed too dimensional, these are, we see a variety of characters of different, I mean, obviously they grew up together, so they have a similar background.
[14:43] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah, they're, they're all middle class to upper class.
[14:46] \[SPEAKER_08\]: Yeah, but we see so many different people and they,
[14:50] \[SPEAKER_08\]: all are black and so we get to just see black people living and and thankfully there's another film that also gives more dimension to it right like a backstory that we get to see people living and it's a it's really an amazing thing.
[15:07] \[SPEAKER_09\]: And it's also interesting because this movie shows something that I think we do not see enough, which is strong, smart black women.
[15:14] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Like, for instance, Neil Long is a woman who's in charge of a network who wants to like, who wants to like, change that she's like, did she has a speech like when you first see her in the movie, she's on a call talking about trying to get diversity on a network.
[15:28] \[SPEAKER_09\]: You have, you know, you have the character that, you know, is on,
[15:33] \[SPEAKER_09\]: which is on, that was a desperate housewives or something like, oh, it was a, yeah, she's, uh, she's, uh, real high school housewives of Westchester.
[15:40] \[SPEAKER_09\]: But even her who could have been very want to mention though, like, you see her like, yes, she, she is sat she didn't get to do.
[15:46] \[SPEAKER_09\]: She wanted it.
[15:47] \[SPEAKER_09\]: You like, you see her actually at one point care about her daughter.
[15:49] \[SPEAKER_09\]: And you see her actually,
[15:50] \[SPEAKER_09\]: help out her ex and then the move and to her character in the first best man to cheat was a part of her history that she used to be a stripper as well but as she she wasn't stripper she wasn't okay she wasn't so that so that's something that's in the little backstory let me make sure I remember the characters names because it's so
[16:10] \[SPEAKER_04\]: So Regina Hall's character is Candace or Candy.
[16:14] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah, and then she used to be a...
[16:16] \[SPEAKER_09\]: So she used to be a stripper.
[16:17] \[SPEAKER_09\]: And technically she was the stripper at the bachelor party.
[16:21] \[SPEAKER_09\]: At the bachelor party.
[16:22] \[SPEAKER_09\]: So he fell in love with the stripper from the bachelor party.
[16:24] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Right, because he knew that.
[16:25] \[SPEAKER_04\]: So the he we're talking about is Harold Perennue, who plays the character Julian.
[16:33] \[SPEAKER_04\]: So Julian, in the first movie,
[16:36] \[SPEAKER_04\]: is with Shelby who's this desperate housewife type, right, but then she's like, uh, she's really mean to him.
[16:43] \[SPEAKER_09\]: She's mean to him.
[16:44] \[SPEAKER_04\]: So he makes nothing with her and gets with this stripper Candace who's like a stripper who's like the stripper with the heart of gold a little bit of that archetype.
[16:52] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah.
[16:52] \[SPEAKER_08\]: Um, but what I think is great about it is,
[16:55] \[SPEAKER_08\]: They, they really spend time dealing with what that is and what that would mean, right?
[17:02] \[SPEAKER_08\]: So like we see, we see everyone sort of like, we see specifically Terrence Howard making fun of it in this movie, right?
[17:11] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Well, to me, I think it's, I don't think tears, I was making fun of it.
[17:15] \[SPEAKER_09\]: To me, to me, to me, to someone saying, stop bitching, you married a strip of it.
[17:18] \[SPEAKER_09\]: He says, he's like, a medit deal with, he says it to him.
[17:21] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Well, deal with it.
[17:22] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Right.
[17:22] \[SPEAKER_09\]: That's her history.
[17:23] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Like, that's her history.
[17:25] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Except it's like, you can't pretend like it's not her history.
[17:28] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Which is kind of like what this guy is dealing with.
[17:31] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Which honestly, that, to me, was one of the most complicated in the, for me, like,
[17:36] \[SPEAKER_04\]: the storyline that I didn't I didn't I wasn't fully resolve like I was just like I was grappling with the most because on the one hand, you know, basically his whole storyline.
[17:46] \[SPEAKER_04\]: So these two he's a he's like a he's a headmaster of a school and she's like in charge of like admissions admissions and um uh
[17:57] \[SPEAKER_04\]: basically the donor they need donations obviously it's a private school so the one of the main donors says he's not gonna donate anymore because somebody found a video of his wife online when she used to be a stripper and like accepting money for like sex essentially.
[18:12] \[SPEAKER_04\]: So like, so he sees this video and he doesn't know what to do because one, he might lose out on this donation if he doesn't fire his wife.
[18:21] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And then two, it's seemingly that he has like, he does have like a problem with the fact that his wife, I mean, like, took my life or sex, which is different than shipping, right?
[18:32] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It's like, that's prostitution.
[18:33] \[SPEAKER_04\]: So he's like, I don't know what to do with this.
[18:35] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And basically, instead of going to his wife and confronting her about it, he's just showing all of his friends.
[18:40] \[SPEAKER_09\]: which is terrible, but I think it's like, I Francis Harold's character to me is like the kind of everyone in the movie, like he is kind and he is the most loving I feel like, like, like unadulterated, like he loves his wife, but is that thing of?
[18:54] \[SPEAKER_09\]: I mean, personally, that's why myself, like, I like the person who, like, was dealing with me and one of my friends, it has one of my friends we back in the day and that's some weird stuff to do with because it's like, it's hard.
[19:06] \[SPEAKER_09\]: It's a hard thing to do, like, absolutely.
[19:08] \[SPEAKER_04\]: So I don't, that's what I'm saying is that I don't blame him for not going straight to her and he shouldn't show to everybody.
[19:13] \[SPEAKER_04\]: He shouldn't have shown everybody, but also, but also, but so it was hard because at the end like, I, uh, it's better to just go to these storylines one by one and resolve them at the end basically.
[19:24] \[SPEAKER_04\]: He, she finds out that she finds out that he's been showing people because his ex, you know, Shelby, this crazy desperate housewife character basically, like,
[19:34] \[SPEAKER_04\]: out there and then they get into a fight because she still has feelings for you know obviously so it's like this weird love triangle thing even though they both have kids and basically it results with one herald being like look shall be i'm not with you anymore this is over i'm not your boo like it's done we're done
[19:54] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And Regina Hall's character, his, you know, Harold's wife basically comes to him like after she kind of leaves and then she comes back and they have like they they make they make up and basically she's like look this is my life like I can't but that was my history I only did it once you know I need you to like support me in a very beautiful scene in a beautiful scene the way the scene of her says
[20:20] \[SPEAKER_09\]: I needed the money just, you know, and it's like, it's, so it's all crushing, yeah, but it's also that thing of like, it's me and John think you said as we first started it's like, you know, yes, if you were black, these aren't just like simple black characters, like that's something that I feel like
[20:35] \[SPEAKER_09\]: people who can relate to it's like how often have often has someone's past come up and it's like okay you know you can't judge or or hold that against them but it's like it does affect you in some way but the two of you have to figure out a way to get over this thing yeah and I thought that this movie handled the nuances of that so yeah yeah go ahead well just the the way that we
[21:01] \[SPEAKER_08\]: that we, they're, Jonathan mentioned the love triangles and how they still have kids and how they, but they don't harp on, they don't really harp on.
[21:11] \[SPEAKER_08\]: No one says I still feel this way.
[21:13] \[SPEAKER_08\]: Right.
[21:14] \[SPEAKER_08\]: No, no, no, no.
[21:14] \[SPEAKER_08\]: No one says never.
[21:16] \[SPEAKER_08\]: But.
[21:17] \[SPEAKER_08\]: you can feel it.
[21:18] \[SPEAKER_08\]: There's a feeling in the room.
[21:20] \[SPEAKER_08\]: There's a tension when those characters that still are kind of holding on to their past when they're together.
[21:27] \[SPEAKER_08\]: And it's so nuanced and it's so three to mention.
[21:30] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And there's these little like burps.
[21:32] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Like there's a little like moments where like Regina's like stripper past just comes up.
[21:37] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Like when she's the other look and it's like.
[21:40] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And like Candace's and Candace is embracing it right because she's on a show where that's who she has So she is yeah, so like she gets the just revel in it basically she's just like what is she like basically goes after Candace's character all the time, you know like oh like You're gonna be those out and the thing is like that's I don't know man.
[22:00] \[SPEAKER_09\]: That's what you do when you got to rival it It's like I'm so fun to do
[22:04] \[SPEAKER_04\]: So they like, they kind of like kind of go at it a little bit and people are like, uh, and then it comes back down.
[22:09] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It's like, doesn't just this really great way.
[22:11] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Oh, I mean, I mean, yeah, I mean, that story was great.
[22:14] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And I always think about, um, but all of the one thing I just want to say was that I think Candace though should have told.
[22:21] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah, her husband about that.
[22:23] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I think he shouldn't.
[22:24] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I mean, they've been going for for years.
[22:26] \[SPEAKER_08\]: But I'm saying strike, but you got to tell your husband, it seems to me, though, with that moment, it's one of those things that she is trying to, at that point in her life, had had already been trying so hard to
[22:41] \[SPEAKER_08\]: push back and to forget right yeah you get the you get the feeling that it only happened that one time which she then later says yeah and and this is a part of what's so great about the writing of this is that
[22:55] \[SPEAKER_08\]: That's how it came out.
[22:55] \[SPEAKER_09\]: It came out because he somehow found out and he would never ever And that's the hardest and the thing too is like it's interesting because if you think about the shot For some reason I'm really big on shots if you think about the shot when she says I Related to money.
[23:08] \[SPEAKER_09\]: She wasn't even looking at it.
[23:09] \[SPEAKER_09\]: She's not looking at anything Look at that.
[23:11] \[SPEAKER_09\]: It's a part.
[23:12] \[SPEAKER_09\]: It's the problem thing is like could you I mean?
[23:14] \[SPEAKER_09\]: And she didn't even want him near him like they're standing apart for the room like so much that the director made sure you saw just how much space imagine what she like don't get me wrong understand like he's I was imagine what she's going through and she said she's like I'm those girls mother Yeah, you know I'm saying and she's like I really needed that money and like imagine what she I'm saying like that's such a difficult situation like I don't know
[23:38] \[SPEAKER_09\]: If she could have told them, I don't think I would try to hold to my chest and never tell my wife.
[23:45] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Like, I mean, I don't know.
[23:46] \[SPEAKER_04\]: That's, I mean, that's debatable.
[23:48] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It's debatable.
[23:48] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah.
[23:49] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I guess the reason I brought it up though is good.
[23:52] \[SPEAKER_04\]: though what Harold did was messed up, you can't blame him that much.
[23:55] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And he didn't mean for his ex to find out.
[23:58] \[SPEAKER_04\]: She just knows how to.
[23:59] \[SPEAKER_09\]: That blamed for anything, I don't know.
[24:00] \[SPEAKER_04\]: But you know what I mean?
[24:00] \[SPEAKER_04\]: You can't blame him for going to his best friends and being like, I don't know what to hell to do with this.
[24:04] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Because that's a lot to drop on.
[24:05] \[SPEAKER_08\]: Yeah, yeah, which is why they come together.
[24:08] \[SPEAKER_04\]: All right, let's take a commercial break.
[24:11] \[SPEAKER_04\]: We'll be right back.
[24:14] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Next relationship.
[24:15] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Yeah, that's what.
[24:16] \[SPEAKER_09\]: So wait, we gotta really gotta who we got.
[24:18] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Do you want to do it?
[24:19] \[SPEAKER_09\]: We got one, do you want to do it?
[24:20] \[SPEAKER_04\]: First of all, real quick, though, let me just talk about Terence Howard because he's kind of floating on its own and in this whole movie.
[24:24] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Terence Howard is amazing.
[24:26] \[SPEAKER_04\]: He's so good in this.
[24:27] \[SPEAKER_04\]: He's so good in this.
[24:29] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Honestly, I was watching this.
[24:30] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I was like, it's so funny because it's like, this is, it's a little bit of a fluff movie because it's like this romance.
[24:35] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Even though it's dealing with these heavy things and does it really well.
[24:38] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah.
[24:38] \[SPEAKER_04\]: But like, it's still a comedy.
[24:40] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It's still like a romantic comedy in a sense.
[24:43] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Terrence Howard is like the comedic element because he gets just he just goes in and says like what nobody else can because he doesn't have anybody else to like he does has no relationship so he can just be like you married a stripper or like like Joe man you need money
[24:58] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah, dude, do you need money to tell money?
[25:00] \[SPEAKER_04\]: What is that?
[25:01] \[SPEAKER_09\]: The thing that's so good about that though is that his character was like, I mean, they say some of your life in like three words he says like money pussy getting hit, which like so crass, but there's instances with him and tell you digs and he's like, hey man, I'm your boy.
[25:14] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Tell me if you need money.
[25:16] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Yeah.
[25:16] \[SPEAKER_09\]: And it's such a gene with things like,
[25:18] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Like he is he's literally like he says he's the bad boy friendship really is a is a value that is in its life Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, he's said that or not.
[25:26] \[SPEAKER_04\]: You know it like oh he cares.
[25:27] \[SPEAKER_04\]: He cares He cares.
[25:28] \[SPEAKER_09\]: I mean, he's gonna line when you first see him.
[25:30] \[SPEAKER_09\]: He's talking about like I don't know why he's my people like let me tell them about people like yeah Take the end we're back
[25:34] \[SPEAKER_08\]: What's up, Monday?
[25:35] \[SPEAKER_08\]: Like, literally the conversation was like, I, and, and not having a strong memory of the first film, I thought they aged a character like that very well.
[25:44] \[SPEAKER_08\]: You know, where he seemed like he had grown up, but you can't, he had more money, yeah, but he had more money.
[25:53] \[SPEAKER_08\]: But he like couldn't divorce himself from like, right, from that attitude, right?
[25:59] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Because they're all, they're all those dudes, man,
[26:02] \[SPEAKER_09\]: I mean, I'm a single dude, man those dudes who just live and think it's yeah, I mean if you look at him throughout the movie He then says it's a very in spoiler alert The whole thing is like he's about to get married which I'm pretty sure it's gonna be the Shelby That's my theory and I think that kid of course.
[26:17] \[SPEAKER_09\]: I think Shelby's kid is his kid just don't it out there
[26:19] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Yeah, only because like the movie, this would be interesting.
[26:23] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It does hint at that stuff like where he's like, I'm not your mother.
[26:27] \[SPEAKER_04\]: He says that two Shelby's kid.
[26:28] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Right.
[26:29] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And there's that point when he's at the funeral.
[26:31] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Crying in the door to go.
[26:34] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Yeah.
[26:34] \[SPEAKER_09\]: But the thing is, he even says, I'm getting married.
[26:37] \[SPEAKER_09\]: It's about time.
[26:38] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Like two of us have to be like.
[26:39] \[SPEAKER_09\]: It's about time.
[26:40] \[SPEAKER_09\]: You know, and it's like, that's a nice arc right did to see the frappe man, frappe boy, settle and down.
[26:46] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And then so then you have, so we just talk about the Tadegs.
[26:50] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah, that's the main story line.
[26:53] \[SPEAKER_04\]: So you have Tadegs and Sonalathan and basically Tadegs is this author who in the first movie,
[27:01] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Like we said, it was about this book, but it was a book about his friend's secrets and his secrets that does really well.
[27:07] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It's a huge hit, but in this movie, he hasn't had a hit for like three years.
[27:13] \[SPEAKER_04\]: The book that he was working on for the past three years is a complete and utter bomb.
[27:17] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Nobody's gonna buy it.
[27:19] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And so he needs a new idea.
[27:20] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And basically his agent is like, you should write a biography of Morris Chess not this character, wait what's his name?
[27:28] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Lance Lance Williams Lance Lance Lance Lance Morse chest not Lance is this The one of the greatest running he's yeah, yeah, yeah, he's about to be a whole time Russian record all time rushing record and so
[27:44] \[SPEAKER_04\]: He's like, you should just he's your friend right at biography on him.
[27:47] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It's going to be amazing people want to hear about a biography and he's like, well, I don't write biographies.
[27:51] \[SPEAKER_04\]: He's like, who cares?
[27:53] \[SPEAKER_04\]: You need to do it money.
[27:54] \[SPEAKER_04\]: You have no money.
[27:55] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And NYU fired him.
[27:56] \[SPEAKER_04\]: He was working as professor for NYU and he got fired.
[27:59] \[SPEAKER_04\]: So he's running out of money.
[28:14] \[SPEAKER_04\]: doesn't fully blame so now they have them but like does believe that she was part of it because she was working the doctor said don't work and so they had a miscarriage and it's that you don't really know if her working was a direct cause but in his mind it kind of is basically I feel like his mind is just like go we got to just do everything perfectly right now perfect you know that's some situation too because oh yeah
[28:38] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And they do with that.
[28:39] \[SPEAKER_04\]: So it's not like it's not another none of all this stuff.
[28:43] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It sounds so melodramatic when you just kind of boil it down, but it's real life and they're not doing it in a melodramatic way.
[28:50] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Not at all.
[28:51] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It's done so musically.
[28:52] \[SPEAKER_08\]: Don't linger on any.
[28:53] \[SPEAKER_08\]: I've said this before, but they don't linger on any.
[28:56] \[SPEAKER_08\]: No, so you were just watching life happen.
[29:00] \[SPEAKER_09\]: I mean, they had a conversation which was so crazy, just in the bed.
[29:04] \[SPEAKER_09\]: And she's like, you blame me.
[29:05] \[SPEAKER_09\]: You don't think I can guess myself.
[29:07] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Yeah, you don't think I don't think I'm terrified.
[29:10] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I mean if we had a woman on this show, she'd be going off of that.
[29:14] \[SPEAKER_09\]: And as a man, there's nothing we can do but support.
[29:18] \[SPEAKER_09\]: You know, like, and the thing is, it's also silly, but in that instance, it's like, you could just see that character, her character, asking for just that.
[29:26] \[SPEAKER_09\]: She's like, I have to carry this.
[29:28] \[SPEAKER_09\]: I know what it was like.
[29:29] \[SPEAKER_09\]: I felt what it was like to lose the first baby.
[29:32] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah.
[29:37] \[SPEAKER_09\]: destroyed her child like she sees her it's it's it's deep man all the while she's at a reunion like at this reunion where we're technically near long who could be you know the questions is that the love of his life the best you know that's my sister
[29:53] \[SPEAKER_04\]: You know, right, is there who's powerful, who has money, who like, you know, who's coming up, who knows him or so near little not more, but Neil Long's character in the first movie, uh, and what's her name is Jordan, right?
[30:07] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Yeah, and I think they've always had like this, this history, you know, right?
[30:11] \[SPEAKER_04\]: This history, they've had this history in the first movie, they like have a kiss, yeah.
[30:16] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And basically, let, yeah, like
[30:20] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It was like that could it could of what a shadow maybe kind of moment, but then Tadex goes what's an olive.
[30:26] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And so anyway, so there's still like that that tension is still there.
[30:30] \[SPEAKER_08\]: And still there and I again, so well ridden makes sense in it.
[30:34] \[SPEAKER_04\]: No, like they both, they both, it's still there.
[30:37] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It's, it's there, but it's not really there like they're both looking at each other.
[30:41] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And they're like, oh, we know we share this history.
[30:43] \[SPEAKER_04\]: But we both are like, no, this isn't going to be, but.
[30:47] \[SPEAKER_04\]: But the jealousy is still prevalent because you know the history.
[30:52] \[SPEAKER_08\]: Yeah, the jealousy is there.
[30:53] \[SPEAKER_08\]: You can, you can see it and looks, you see how friendly they are together.
[30:58] \[SPEAKER_08\]: They know each other because they know each other that well, and it's, it's so good.
[31:04] \[SPEAKER_08\]: And the thing too is, is, yeah, screw you love actually.
[31:06] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Honestly, screw you love.
[31:08] \[SPEAKER_04\]: No, honestly, because you're like, you have, honestly, though.
[31:10] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Honestly, because you know why love actually is in the top 10 Christmas movies of like so many freaking lists Love actually is touted as one of these great movies.
[31:18] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It has it's New Year's Eve Valentine's Day It's because of love actually this movie does the same thing it has a bunch of storylines They're all these dramas whatever these really great actors and it doesn't in such a great way But nobody talks about the freaking the best man how they why because it's all black cast man.
[31:35] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Yeah
[31:35] \[SPEAKER_09\]: School of actually honestly screw love actually I mean it's just I mean when you think about it It's just sad man because it's like this movie was great
[31:43] \[SPEAKER_09\]: It was.
[31:44] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It was.
[31:46] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It was.
[31:46] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It really is.
[31:47] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I didn't want to like it.
[31:48] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I didn't either.
[31:49] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I honestly didn't even want to like it.
[31:51] \[SPEAKER_04\]: When we first started in draw text with me, I was like, yeah, this one is terrible.
[31:54] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And I started watching it.
[31:55] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And I was just like, it's not.
[31:56] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I was like, for one, I don't care about romantic comedies.
[31:58] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I wasn't really in that into it.
[32:00] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Two, I was like, oh, God, like all these storylines going to be melodramatic and all these things.
[32:04] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I literally found myself laughing at, I didn't want to, I
[32:07] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I wasn't like stopping by, I found myself laughing out loud, being surprised, being all by the acting, being like invested in these storyline.
[32:17] \[SPEAKER_09\]: I care.
[32:17] \[SPEAKER_09\]: And I think it was, and it wasn't for, you know what I was, anything's I do like love actually.
[32:22] \[SPEAKER_09\]: But the thing is when I watch it, I know what, but when I watch it, it's like, that is for like, it's fluff.
[32:27] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Like, and no offense to that movie because I do watch it, I own it, it's very fluff.
[32:31] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Whereas this had a lot of heart,
[32:34] \[SPEAKER_09\]: I mean, the thing is, when I think about how it describes the movie, I was like, this movie had a lot of heart, you know, saying they cared.
[32:39] \[SPEAKER_09\]: I mean, the instance that they could of the one thing, Neil Long's character is dating a white guy, which, which, the first, like, the first time.
[32:48] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Tate eggs, he cracks like a little joke.
[32:50] \[SPEAKER_09\]: You know, which I do sometimes do my ex things a white boy.
[32:52] \[SPEAKER_09\]: And of course, I crack a little joke, but when that, when that white guy comes to the house, no one makes fun of him for being white.
[32:59] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Yeah, if he came a little bit it's what I was a little bit.
[33:04] \[SPEAKER_09\]: It's not even a tease.
[33:06] \[SPEAKER_09\]: It's like It's like what a good question.
[33:08] \[SPEAKER_09\]: It's a legit question.
[33:09] \[SPEAKER_08\]: Yeah.
[33:10] \[SPEAKER_08\]: It's like and it's also you know you would rag on and in
[33:14] \[SPEAKER_04\]: If if it were a family reunion or any kind of family event and then there's a new person there That's the person you got a check the new person right See what they say they accept them totally in fact totally parents our like at one point While they're all talking they have like this man conversation like the men are all together the men are playing pool and while they're playing pool like
[33:38] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Turns out that one point is like I like this guy.
[33:40] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Yeah, too.
[33:41] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I'm like I like this guy Like he like they at they talk about their values and everything like they just ask him one question They're like is so what turns out is like so is this your first for a into the jungle or what's going on like Yeah, basically are you only dating her because she's black and you wanted like just taste like a black and then he was basically like no I mean like look I've dated a bunch of different women like I'm good

[36:04] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Yeah, and also the greatest of you said at the particular friend.
[36:06] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Who is this dude?
[36:07] \[SPEAKER_09\]: You know, it was like, no matter what color that guy would have been.
[36:10] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Yeah.
[36:10] \[SPEAKER_09\]: So I'm like, hey, what's your intention?
[36:12] \[SPEAKER_09\]: It's just been a phrase.
[36:12] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Right.
[36:13] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah.
[36:14] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I would just say like, real life situations.
[36:17] \[SPEAKER_04\]: If it was like, with my dad, I mean, I mean, I love my mom's family.
[36:22] \[SPEAKER_04\]: He's great.
[36:22] \[SPEAKER_04\]: My mom's going to be so welcoming, except thing, I'm interested to know, I've never even asked him.
[36:28] \[SPEAKER_04\]: He's probably listened to this podcast.
[36:30] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I've never even asked him like how it felt the first time he went to,
[36:34] \[SPEAKER_04\]: You know an all-white family.
[36:36] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Where's your mom from like where's he?
[36:37] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Here Jersey.
[36:38] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Oh, Jersey.
[36:38] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Cool.
[36:39] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah I say she's so they're all Italian Italian Irish, you know what I mean?
[36:45] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Yeah, I say that about the South he probably was gay it that's sure that's that's definitely
[36:51] \[SPEAKER_04\]: up like it there's same class you know what I mean uh but uh because you imagine like black like so that I wonder what that would be like so you have the one black person going to this family kind of friendship things all white people like yeah
[37:04] \[SPEAKER_04\]: You know, and you're telling me they're not going to ask about black stuff.
[37:08] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Yeah, I mean, interesting man, like, I mean, I, you know, most of my wife friends will always say, like, like, you know, sometimes you have these conversations, people just want to learn and just understand.
[37:17] \[SPEAKER_09\]: And to me, that stuff was great.
[37:19] \[SPEAKER_09\]: And like, even in this movie, you know, the fact that he asked that white boy that one question is so indicative that it's never addressed about his race again.
[37:26] \[SPEAKER_09\]: You know what I'm saying?
[37:27] \[SPEAKER_09\]: He's like, he's just based on that conversation, he became one of them.
[37:30] \[SPEAKER_04\]: He's one of them and so much so that when the women are talking they're basically telling Neil Long Jordan like hey, so are you gonna marry him or what and she's like oh, well, no, and they're like why not He's great.
[37:43] \[SPEAKER_04\]: He's great.
[37:44] \[SPEAKER_04\]: You love him like stop pretending you don't need anybody Well, so that's their whole that's her whole storyline is like you know at one point.
[37:51] \[SPEAKER_04\]: He's like, oh, sometimes you act like you don't need me like without skipping a beat She's like I don't
[37:55] \[SPEAKER_09\]: because the business savvy is like, I care about you.
[37:59] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Independent, independent female.
[38:00] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Like, you don't even mean that's what she's going on.
[38:02] \[SPEAKER_04\]: She's a strong independent woman and she's like, I don't need you.
[38:05] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I don't need a man.
[38:06] \[SPEAKER_04\]: But that's not what he was talking about.
[38:08] \[SPEAKER_04\]: He wasn't saying you need a man to provide for you and all this stuff.
[38:10] \[SPEAKER_04\]: He's like, partnership.
[38:12] \[SPEAKER_04\]: We're human beings.
[38:13] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Right.
[38:13] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Both men and women like, like, we crave partnership.
[38:17] \[SPEAKER_09\]: And I think it's that question of sometimes you don't want someone to need you, you want someone to want you.
[38:24] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Because the thing is need is such a thing of like obsession.
[38:28] \[SPEAKER_09\]: You know what I'm saying?
[38:29] \[SPEAKER_09\]: But what is like a strong woman in particular?
[38:31] \[SPEAKER_09\]: I feel like especially this day and age and we're on entertainment.
[38:34] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Like most of the women we know are very outspoken, very proud of themselves.
[38:38] \[SPEAKER_09\]: And it's like, you know what?
[38:39] \[SPEAKER_09\]: I don't need anything from any of you guys.
[38:42] \[SPEAKER_09\]: I am choosing
[38:43] \[SPEAKER_04\]: you and I'm saying like I am choosing to want you and I'm choosing for you to beat my part well I think there's something to be said about choosing to need somebody too like just in the terms of because not that not saying that if they break up like she's gonna fall apart but uh
[39:01] \[SPEAKER_04\]: there's something about giving your whole self to somebody and being vulnerable.
[39:05] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Like that's what I think love ultimately takes, right?
[39:09] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Like if you want to really love and commit yourself fully to someone you need to be vulnerable, you need to let your guard down.
[39:16] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And basically she wasn't doing that.
[39:17] \[SPEAKER_04\]: She was like, that's what he was kind of addressing.
[39:20] \[SPEAKER_04\]: He was just like, you're not letting me fully in.
[39:22] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I could tell, like I'm your arm candy, you're the good thing, but like at a drop of a hat,
[39:27] \[SPEAKER_04\]: you wouldn't feel bad if I left which means you're not fully letting me in.
[39:31] \[SPEAKER_08\]: And I think that vulnerability is something that's addressed in this.
[39:37] \[SPEAKER_08\]: And this man, as it relates to us, just not scared to add Morris Chess and that's character.
[39:42] \[SPEAKER_08\]: Who is so
[39:45] \[SPEAKER_09\]: He's a man, he's such a, yeah, he's a man, he's a man, he's a man, he's a man, he's a man, he's a man, he's a man, he's a man, he's a man, he's a man, he's a man, he's a man, he's a man, he's a man, he's a man, he's a man, he's a man, he's a man, he's a man, he's a man, he's a man, he's a man, he's a man, he's a man, he's a man, he's a man, he's a man, he's a man, he's a man, he's a man, he's a man, he's a man, he's a man, he's a man, he's a man, he's a man, he's a man, he's a man, he's a man, he's a man, he's a man, he's a man, he
[40:14] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Morris Chessnut lands his wife, Monica Calhoun's character, who's, what's the name, Mia, is dying of cancer.
[40:27] \[SPEAKER_04\]: You kind of find this out in the middle of the movie, but she's dying of cancer and they haven't told anybody.
[40:33] \[SPEAKER_04\]: The reason that Tay Diggs first finds out is because she's coughing up blood.
[40:36] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah, they were like crazy.
[40:38] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It's like
[40:38] \[SPEAKER_04\]: like some bad walks in on it and he walks in on it and he's like oh my god what's and you know she has to tell him and then later she like fainting and then everybody finds out and basically Lance has you know kind of put up this wall of faith which is oh man like as a as a Christian I like could get into this this is a whole other topic of like how sometimes people use faith as a way of not
[41:05] \[SPEAKER_04\]: recognizing or dealing with real things that are happening because the fact in the matter is you know, and this is what happens in movies and kind of what Tadex says at the end, which is like
[41:16] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I believe God has a plan, but I don't understand this.
[41:19] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It just makes sense.
[41:21] \[SPEAKER_04\]: This plan seems stupid.
[41:22] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah.
[41:23] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And he's mad.
[41:23] \[SPEAKER_04\]: You know, he's like, I don't understand this plan even if I believe it, right?
[41:28] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And the thing is Lance is basically refuses to believe that his wife has cancer.
[41:32] \[SPEAKER_04\]: He hasn't dealt with it because he's just like, no, no, no, God is going to save her without actually
[41:37] \[SPEAKER_04\]: understanding, well, maybe he won't, and that's a part of the plan.
[41:41] \[SPEAKER_08\]: Right.
[41:41] \[SPEAKER_08\]: And it's such a, it's such an ambiguous thing.
[41:46] \[SPEAKER_08\]: God, it's in God's hands, is a thing that he's saying over and over.
[41:49] \[SPEAKER_08\]: It's in God's hands.
[41:51] \[SPEAKER_08\]: And what the exact result is, is something that he never says out loud, right?
[41:55] \[SPEAKER_08\]: You know, and we, and we kind of hear the others dealing with that, but he is so removed from it.
[42:02] \[SPEAKER_09\]: But it's also that old school thinking of like,
[42:06] \[SPEAKER_09\]: as a man, and as a black man, it's like, again, I can't speak every race, but I know growing up as a black man, it's like, you are supposed to protect, provide, and be there, and be strong.
[42:21] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Yeah, grab everybody.
[42:22] \[SPEAKER_09\]: And if you want to break down, no one can see you.
[42:24] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Nobody.
[42:24] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Yeah.
[42:25] \[SPEAKER_09\]: And because that's, because that's not what you do, you know, and it's, it's so interesting to see a black man go through that and you're like, do.
[42:34] \[SPEAKER_04\]: You just doesn't need to be like this, but when people are like trying to hang a little personal, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry but I honestly, I'm trying to remember, but I am pretty sure I've never seen my dad cry.
[42:50] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Now I don't think I can't remember here's the thing though.
[42:57] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I didn't go to when his grandmother passed away.
[43:00] \[SPEAKER_04\]: My great grandmother I didn't go to that funeral and thankfully think yeah both of your grandparents my grandparents are still with us
[43:11] \[SPEAKER_04\]: my mom's parents are now with us, but I can't, I'm thinking right now, maybe I have, and I just haven't, I just can't remember it, but I don't remember, and myself, I can count for you the number of times that I've cried in front of somebody, all my hand, for sure.
[43:30] \[SPEAKER_04\]: like not as not as a child of course, but like as an adult and there is that and I've thought I've talked to my girlfriend about this of like I do there is that feeling of like I'm a man I need to be strong for like the people that are in around me, you know what I mean?
[43:48] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And so more is chestnut like I relate to that so much.
[43:50] \[SPEAKER_04\]: He wasn't he wasn't wrecking that he wasn't dealing with anything the only thing that he showed was anger.
[43:55] \[SPEAKER_04\]: You know what I mean because it was like the strong and it was like the hot of it.
[43:59] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah, it was a righteous anger Which is like that kind of God like fearing like no, I'm right you're wrong And I can I'm allowed to be angry because this is a righteous anger and it's tricky too because this that thing of
[44:13] \[SPEAKER_09\]: missed that thing a pride.
[44:15] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Yeah, it's so much pride.
[44:18] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It's pride.
[44:19] \[SPEAKER_09\]: It was too different versions that same pride.
[44:22] \[SPEAKER_09\]: If you compare more chestnuts pride to take this, say digs in his money.
[44:27] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Yeah, I think it's the same thing.
[44:29] \[SPEAKER_09\]: And two, two different types of men going through almost the same internal like
[44:35] \[SPEAKER_08\]: Like, I'm a man I got about what would it mean about what would it mean about them as a person as a man to admit to it to admit any of that I'm scared.
[44:43] \[SPEAKER_04\]: What would it be just man to admit that I'm scared that I'm going to lose my wife?
[44:46] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah.
[44:47] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Well, that I'm afraid of what's going to happen, that how am I going to raise my kids by myself?
[44:53] \[SPEAKER_04\]: How am I going to live without this person that I love?
[44:56] \[SPEAKER_04\]: What does that mean?
[44:57] \[SPEAKER_04\]: If I show weakness, if I show doubt, you know what I mean?
[45:00] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah.
[45:01] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Like what does it mean as a man if I show that I am failing to provide for my family For my baby who's about to come into this world.
[45:08] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah, but I lost my job But I can't I can't do it.
[45:11] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I need help.
[45:12] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I need assistance from somebody else And you know what I mean, and these these are grown men to have it as grown men These are grown men grown black men because here's the thing about it the reason that I keep emphasizing it about the black isn't just because of culture But it's also because of the way that our society is like look black people had to be dependent
[45:30] \[SPEAKER_04\]: on white people for so long because I mean like they were being oppressed but they literally had to be dependent because like they were it's just like whatever you give me right because like they can't provide for themselves because it's made that they couldn't and so a part of the whole black movement civil rights whatever it was like we are going to provide for stuff we don't need white people and everyone and all of the characters in the film are
[45:59] \[SPEAKER_08\]: Harper and Lance, Lance being, they used to be best friends and Lance is like in a mansion, you know, having to, having to deal with, um, oh, I don't, I can't provide for my family and here I, and I want to ask you for help.
[46:15] \[SPEAKER_08\]: This, I want to ask you someone who used to be my friend, and it just seems like such a heavy thing.
[46:20] \[SPEAKER_08\]: Yeah, it's, I mean, it is, it's just, it does,
[46:25] \[SPEAKER_08\]: another time when someone admitted something or felt very vulnerable, but didn't look at the person they were talking to was when T-Diggs admits that he needs the money and it's so so yeah so there are two basically we didn't talk about it but there are two moments one T-Diggs admits to Terrence Howard that he needs the money and he cries he does and he misses twice and what he had missed it was wife he's like I'm scared
[46:48] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Oh, he missed who's white that he's oh my god, he missed He doesn't look at her.
[46:51] \[SPEAKER_04\]: He doesn't look at her and he kind of doesn't look at Terence Howard either when he's like He's like I do I need money and he's like and the end and Terence Howard's like it's cool man Just call me daddy That would you do to the other thing and then the other time is what is
[47:09] \[SPEAKER_04\]: at it's like at the funeral as the cast is being like everybody else is leaving Tay Dicks is kind of leaving and turns around and he sees Lance is just starting finally.
[47:18] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Oh my god.
[47:19] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It was amazing moments.
[47:20] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Now he's most dramatic moment.
[47:21] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It's him.
[47:22] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It's like I didn't mind it.
[47:23] \[SPEAKER_04\]: His fist is being clenched.
[47:24] \[SPEAKER_04\]: His fist is clenching.
[47:26] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And then you see it like kind of just uncleanches and shakes a little bit and you see like he's releasing everything He's releasing all the stress fear Oh, my God too.
[47:36] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I got you and then he just starts breaking down just slowly slowly Seeing crumble in it.
[47:42] \[SPEAKER_04\]: We say somebody's doing it right over and they just and it's just these two black men No, I mean, homophobia is so prevalent in the black community, right?
[47:49] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Like we just admit it, right?
[47:50] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It's there.
[47:51] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Oh, yeah There's two black men who are straight
[47:53] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Hugging each other as soon as possible to him and they are on the ground, but now let's talk It's like we got to get his director so much props Because he did something that I feel like it's never done Especially when it's like we do get to give you a result man.
[48:12] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Come on.
[48:12] \[SPEAKER_09\]: So man
[48:13] \[SPEAKER_09\]: But, and, and, and the more just the acting ability, the camera or more just the space is there as you slowly breaks down.
[48:22] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Come on, man.
[48:23] \[SPEAKER_09\]: This isn't one of those like random TV cries.
[48:26] \[SPEAKER_09\]: My great uncle always talks about when a person sings when a person cries.
[48:29] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Your face becomes the most unattractive thing.
[48:32] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Because, because, at that point, they don't, they're not thinking about their appearance.
[48:36] \[SPEAKER_09\]: They let everything, his face ripples up.
[48:39] \[SPEAKER_08\]: It's like oh my god, he's doing and it's like it feels like a crane shot.
[48:43] \[SPEAKER_09\]: It swoops up Yes, it takes in the background as it runs runs runs He literally runs back to his boy.
[48:51] \[SPEAKER_09\]: It's to me and that's what I hold him that's what I will say Hold him about black man, yo
[48:57] \[SPEAKER_09\]: like so much has happened especially now in the area we live in today we're like our lives are more threatened in America than probably any other race in America we're shocked sometimes but you know what black men do do no matter they stand together whether you think about like the the low level of like oh he's going to get us back on the ground if you think about that that is still a neighborhood backing a neighborhood you know what i'm saying
[49:26] \[SPEAKER_09\]: That was a two-prayer's whole niche up.
[49:28] \[SPEAKER_09\]: I'm not saying I don't know, but I'm not going to condone Black.
[49:31] \[SPEAKER_09\]: I'm not gonna condone Black.
[49:32] \[SPEAKER_09\]: I'm not gonna condone Black.
[49:33] \[SPEAKER_09\]: No one is, but I'm trying to play double advocate because someone will be black.
[49:36] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I don't know.
[49:36] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I don't know.
[49:37] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I don't know.
[49:37] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I don't know.
[49:38] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I don't know.
[49:38] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I don't know.
[49:39] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I don't know.
[49:39] \[SPEAKER_04\]: But yeah.
[49:40] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Oh my goodness.
[49:41] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Anyway, so that was like... Boo!
[49:45] \[SPEAKER_04\]: So yeah, but here, the thing we do have to talk about though.
[49:48] \[SPEAKER_04\]: We gotta talk about, before we talk about this world.
[49:52] \[SPEAKER_08\]: Oh yeah, I have some stuff that I want to talk about before talking about before this world.
[49:56] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah, so one, I need to talk about the fact that there is this moment in the movie where a bunch of sex scenes are happening at the same time.
[50:05] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And you see, uh, it's like, oh, yeah, not late then and all the men it was like more it was I can't you more for women than for men Yeah, because it's mostly all the men with like their shirts off like like Tade digs looks great right and then you see more it's chestnut and Monica and then And then Uh, you kind of you see Sharon's hour like pines.
[50:26] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry.
[50:27] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I'm trying to make it.
[50:29] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I'm trying to make it.
[50:30] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I'm trying to make it.
[50:31] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I'm trying to make it.
[50:32] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I'm trying to make it.
[50:32] \[SPEAKER_08\]: I'm trying to make it.
[50:33] \[SPEAKER_08\]: He did.
[50:34] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I can't remember about that.
[50:36] \[SPEAKER_08\]: I can't remember about that.
[50:36] \[SPEAKER_04\]: He's like a long shot, long shot.
[50:38] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah.
[50:39] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And then says it too.
[50:40] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Shelby.
[50:41] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Shelby.
[50:42] \[SPEAKER_04\]: But what I did notice very well was that the one swirl in this movie, you know, which, uh, Navigina, um, Neilau.
[50:51] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Neil Long with the white man, uh, he left.
[50:55] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah.
[50:55] \[SPEAKER_04\]: He wasn't there.
[50:56] \[SPEAKER_04\]: So there's no, so there's no swirl this.
[50:58] \[SPEAKER_04\]: There's no swirl in the movie.
[51:00] \[SPEAKER_04\]: There's no actual set because they showed all of these different sexings happening, but it didn't show that.
[51:06] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Yeah, I got some for that.
[51:06] \[SPEAKER_09\]: You go, but do you get?
[51:07] \[SPEAKER_08\]: Well, what I want to say kind of relates to the swirl as well.
[51:11] \[SPEAKER_08\]: I mentioned a couple podcasts ago about how.
[51:15] \[SPEAKER_08\]: I struggled in my writing, writing, writing white character for the every man character.
[51:23] \[SPEAKER_08\]: And I think it connects the Hollywood.
[51:25] \[SPEAKER_08\]: We talked about how strong these female characters in this movie are.
[51:30] \[SPEAKER_08\]: But the reason that we need to make, and I'm all for the swirl because that shows equality.
[51:35] \[SPEAKER_08\]: But the reason why we need to make more movies like this is because
[51:40] \[SPEAKER_08\]: I don't think that we realize how much our types or who were into relationship wise are influenced by the what we see.
[51:50] \[SPEAKER_08\]: Oh, yeah, oh, yeah, and I, I'm currently dating a girl.
[51:54] \[SPEAKER_08\]: She's, she's half Chinese, half Jewish, and have frequently dated white women in my past.
[52:05] \[SPEAKER_08\]: And I think that it has a lot to do with just what I
[52:08] \[SPEAKER_08\]: and used to seeing on television and seeing what I'm growing up around a lot of white people also.
[52:16] \[SPEAKER_08\]: But I do think that we, what's beautiful about this movie is that they show, they show black people loving black people.
[52:24] \[SPEAKER_08\]: I think that's a beautiful thing.
[52:27] \[SPEAKER_08\]: And I think that,
[52:29] \[SPEAKER_08\]: We need to see we need to see more of these movies and I think I talked about how they're we don't also see like other races blending together a lot We need to just see people loving each other on films so that we can promote love around the world
[52:47] \[SPEAKER_08\]: Like we need more movies like this and we need more movies with swirls of all kinds so that we can So that we can just educate each other that we're all people and we're all beautiful Honestly, every time a Romeo and Juliet production is put on
[53:03] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It should always be two different races.
[53:05] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah, you can always be two different races always like it's funny You tired of freaking too white Romeo and Juliet.
[53:12] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Yeah, honey.
[53:13] \[SPEAKER_09\]: There's a theater house here in New York City Which is auditioning for exactly that.
[53:17] \[SPEAKER_09\]: I think it's going to be um, no I mean I mean movies, though.
[53:20] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah, yeah, yeah, theater has done it theater.
[53:23] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I'm blue.
[53:23] \[SPEAKER_04\]: He's a theater He's doing it, but for you can movies come on now
[53:28] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Enough of this movie.
[53:29] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Yeah, movies man.
[53:30] \[SPEAKER_09\]: I don't know why it's such a hold-up.
[53:32] \[SPEAKER_09\]: So I don't I don't I don't know why we don't have more female director to understand why you know Let's get into this work.
[53:38] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Yeah
[53:41] \[SPEAKER_09\]: So, there is a swirl in fact in this movie, then, yes, Neil Long and her boo, her bay, her bay is the play I think is that, we don't see the sexy, but it's referenced, like, the morning he leaves, she's like, I'm, I was nervous, we're going to wake up the house, that's true.
[54:04] \[SPEAKER_09\]: So it is referenced,
[54:05] \[SPEAKER_04\]: But that's not that isn't that even more doesn't that make you even more like why didn't we say why did we see that this is a rated R movie Yeah, why isn't it that's not even a PG13 movie.
[54:15] \[SPEAKER_09\]: This is a rated R movie and I'm gonna do this world and this is where I've never done before
[54:20] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Um, I actually I guess I have with a black woman in a white man.
[54:24] \[SPEAKER_09\]: I'm gonna use me along in her bed.
[54:26] \[SPEAKER_09\]: All right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all
[54:41] \[SPEAKER_09\]: All right, and it could have been two scenes.
[54:43] \[SPEAKER_09\]: All right, the first scene is after Tara's Howard comes up.
[54:45] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Uh, Tara, I mean, Tadeg's comes to the office, right?
[54:47] \[SPEAKER_09\]: He comes to the office.
[54:47] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Oh my goodness.
[54:47] \[SPEAKER_09\]: You date, you date, you date, you date, you date, you date, you date, you date, you date, you date, you date, you date, you date, you date, you date, you date, you date, you date, you date, you date, you date, you date, you date, you date, you date, you date, you date, you date, you date, you date, you date, you date, you date, you date, you date, you date, you date, you date, you date, you date, you date, you date, you date, you date, you date, you date, you date, you date, you date, you date, you date, you date, you date, you
[55:00] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Okay, okay, don't get a twist it.
[55:02] \[SPEAKER_09\]: No, don't get a twist it.
[55:03] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Keep the white because the white guy definitely knew this is the X.
[55:05] \[SPEAKER_09\]: And everyone knows when you are there with like your, your, your, your, your woman or your man in the X's day, you gotta show up.
[55:13] \[SPEAKER_09\]: You know, you got your fresh suit on.
[55:15] \[SPEAKER_09\]: You looking your best and you're head of proof.
[55:18] \[SPEAKER_09\]: No, he can't.
[55:18] \[SPEAKER_09\]: No, that white dude kills her in the mouth.
[55:21] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Longingly, in front of Tate Dicks, the pruba point, and that's for her, but that's a man thing.
[55:26] \[SPEAKER_09\]: She's with me now, brother.
[55:28] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Get out.
[55:29] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Okay, I guess I'm on that.
[55:30] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Just a pruba.
[55:31] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Do you know what happens?
[55:32] \[SPEAKER_09\]: I'm such a man.
[55:33] \[SPEAKER_09\]: I have money.
[55:34] \[SPEAKER_09\]: She has a huge office.
[55:35] \[SPEAKER_00\]: You know what?
[55:35] \[SPEAKER_00\]: We'll have friends here.
[55:37] \[SPEAKER_09\]: On her desk with the windows of the world to see this swirl.
[55:40] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Okay?
[55:41] \[SPEAKER_09\]: For the world to see, and you knew it just went down.
[55:43] \[SPEAKER_09\]: So go one out, Tate Dicks.
[55:45] \[SPEAKER_09\]: The second swirl is at the house.
[55:47] \[SPEAKER_09\]: at the house, after the conversation with his boys in the basement.
[55:51] \[SPEAKER_09\]: He's like, you know what, man, I don't see race, you know, stuff, white men say most of the time, like, I don't see things, you know, stuff, white men, what is stuff, I don't see race, you know, he kills upstairs, he probably says something like this.
[56:04] \[SPEAKER_09\]: my newbie ain't got it.
[56:05] \[SPEAKER_09\]: You know what I'm saying?
[56:06] \[SPEAKER_09\]: He probably says something like that, and you know it, you know what I want them to rub?
[56:10] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Because this is a thing.
[56:11] \[SPEAKER_09\]: This thing, women, and you know, black women in particular need to feel honored.
[56:16] \[SPEAKER_09\]: You know what I'm saying?
[56:16] \[SPEAKER_09\]: You need to feel respected.
[56:17] \[SPEAKER_09\]: And that's one thing I think for the most part that black men have been slipping on.
[56:21] \[SPEAKER_09\]: All right.
[56:22] \[SPEAKER_09\]: I think we've been slipping on that.
[56:23] \[SPEAKER_09\]: I feel like we've forgotten who are queens up.
[56:26] \[SPEAKER_09\]: And now in the most of the world today, a lot of white men are dating black women because
[56:32] \[SPEAKER_09\]: They're there for them.
[56:33] \[SPEAKER_09\]: You know what I'm saying while most black men are looking for like the next life's can't girl the next Federation with it, but they do it
[56:48] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Yeah, he was like that has to be the sexiest thing anyone This black this muscular To like man with this Given her foot rub And you know And this this is why the white man would have taken a little bit further because he knows he's going to get Because he even talked about she can't give up what her fears you know big black, you know Start he starts coming He starts coming ahead
[57:14] \[SPEAKER_09\]: He hopes her out.
[57:15] \[SPEAKER_09\]: That's him.
[57:16] \[SPEAKER_09\]: No, hear me out.
[57:17] \[SPEAKER_09\]: I didn't see you on the note.
[57:19] \[SPEAKER_09\]: No, no, this is so demon.
[57:20] \[SPEAKER_09\]: He's showing how much he cares.
[57:21] \[SPEAKER_09\]: You get a foot rub.
[57:22] \[SPEAKER_09\]: You plan our hair, make her feel loved.
[57:25] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Then you roll massive.
[57:27] \[SPEAKER_09\]: I mean, if you go back to Creed, when I saw this movie, I saw this movie in DC.
[57:31] \[SPEAKER_09\]: And then Creed, he is hoping her take out her brain.
[57:34] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Yeah.
[57:34] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Every black woman in there,
[57:36] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Wow, so I had to go in that because that's right there a black woman's hair is so important to them.
[57:42] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Oh, I'm gonna help you I'm gonna give you a little bit of effort and you know what happens the white man ended up winning I think that's some stuff
[57:51] \[SPEAKER_08\]: Ain't bad some he got here.
[57:53] \[SPEAKER_08\]: He just it all swirl with the white man with he won We let it happen.
[57:59] \[SPEAKER_04\]: All right, well, it wasn't in the movie so I'm very confused now, but okay, okay, well Yeah, we lost me alone.
[58:07] \[SPEAKER_08\]: Okay.
[58:07] \[SPEAKER_08\]: This is great Something's been on my mind that I don't I almost don't even want to bring this up, but what's up?
[58:13] \[SPEAKER_08\]: After earth?
[58:13] \[SPEAKER_08\]: I mean don't think good is after earth good because how after earth?
[58:17] \[SPEAKER_08\]: What, what, you are ruining Christmas, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
[58:35] \[SPEAKER_04\]: all right.
[58:36] \[SPEAKER_08\]: Well, that's what they have in the movie.
[58:37] \[SPEAKER_08\]: You know, it's got your own dumb.
[58:39] \[SPEAKER_08\]: It's future.
[58:40] \[SPEAKER_08\]: Future.
[58:40] \[SPEAKER_08\]: Everything about that.
[58:41] \[SPEAKER_08\]: It's dumb.
[58:43] \[SPEAKER_08\]: But I'm just saying it's about family.
[58:44] \[SPEAKER_08\]: It's.
[58:45] \[SPEAKER_08\]: They struggle so much with, uh, with, with, Jaden and, uh, all right, man.
[58:50] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Hey, hey, so, uh, let's wrap this up, uh, Jaden has a system.
[58:53] \[SPEAKER_08\]: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[58:54] \[SPEAKER_08\]: The system.
[58:55] \[SPEAKER_08\]: Or is it, or is it is?
[58:56] \[SPEAKER_08\]: Yeah, he loves baby baby baby.
[58:58] \[SPEAKER_08\]: She gets she gets killed.
[58:58] \[SPEAKER_08\]: She's like she's like Steve, right?
[58:59] \[SPEAKER_08\]: It's just it's just right.
[59:00] \[SPEAKER_08\]: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
[59:12] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Okay, all right.
[59:13] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It's time for the cops.
[59:14] \[SPEAKER_07\]: Okay, great.
[59:15] \[SPEAKER_07\]: Put up that man move.
[59:16] \[SPEAKER_08\]: I'm just I'm just wondering So you're doing a Christmas for me.
[59:19] \[SPEAKER_08\]: I'm sorry everybody.
[59:21] \[SPEAKER_08\]: It was in the back of my mind the whole time.
[59:22] \[SPEAKER_09\]: I'm watching happy holidays It feels a spill a little bit of egg yolk for James.
[59:26] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Yeah, he's about to get murdered after
[59:29] \[SPEAKER_04\]: So it's time for the cause, of course, if you do not know the cause, we rate movies not based on how great or bad we think they are, but how they help the cause of leading black actors or leading people of color in Hollywood.
[59:46] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It may as your most in pictures, major motion pictures.
[59:50] \[SPEAKER_04\]: All right, we either give it a black fist, a white palm or nothing.
[59:54] \[SPEAKER_04\]: You guys ready?
[59:55] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah.
[59:57] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Let me think about this for one second.
[59:59] \[SPEAKER_09\]: I feel like I know how this is gonna go down.
[1:00:00] \[SPEAKER_09\]: All right, here we go.
[1:00:02] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Three, two, three, out, up, trates.
[1:00:05] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Three, two, one.
[1:00:09] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I don't know.
[1:00:11] \[SPEAKER_03\]: All right.
[1:00:12] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Oh, no.
[1:00:13] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I tell you, you go first.
[1:00:13] \[SPEAKER_04\]: You go first.
[1:00:14] \[SPEAKER_04\]: All right, I have to tell you.
[1:00:15] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I gave it, okay, we got three black fists.
[1:00:16] \[SPEAKER_04\]: We got three black fists.
[1:00:17] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Three black fists.
[1:00:18] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yes.
[1:00:19] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Here's why it has to tell you.
[1:00:21] \[SPEAKER_04\]: hesitate it because and has nothing really has nothing to do with the movie okay it has everything to do with the perception of the movie and whether or not this really helped these people's careers interesting I have a good point on it because here's the thing this movie did really well like I said honestly I haven't I like I really did like love actually a lot when I saw it
[1:00:44] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I'd have to go back and watch it again.
[1:00:46] \[SPEAKER_04\]: But like this movie, I'm sure if I compare it to all these other romantic comedy, especially ones around holidays and stuff like that.
[1:00:54] \[SPEAKER_04\]: This movie is definitely one of the best.
[1:00:56] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It's really good.
[1:00:57] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It's really good.
[1:00:59] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And the acting in it is superb.
[1:01:01] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It's amazing.
[1:01:01] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It's great acting.
[1:01:02] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Now look, we didn't talk about this, but there are a couple of mellows or manic moments.
[1:01:06] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Then I'm trying to deliver the baby in the car, a little bit cliche.
[1:01:09] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I want to talk about that.
[1:01:10] \[SPEAKER_04\]: There is, you know, they have like the soundtrack, you know, there is a lot of like very like wink, wink kind of soundtrack moments like, so there is just some things that were done that I was like, okay, this isn't, this is still a romantic comedy, it's not like breaking the mold or anything, it's still within the mold, but it's doing it really well and it's doing it with an all black cast, you know what I mean?
[1:01:34] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And it's just really good.
[1:01:37] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Uh, so that's why I gave it a fist because I feel like in terms of what the movie does to promote the cause, like I can go and be like, have you actually seen best man holiday and people gonna know and they go, well watch it and when you watch it, you realize Black people are making just as good movies.
[1:01:52] \[SPEAKER_04\]: and they're super popular.
[1:01:53] \[SPEAKER_04\]: So how about you can market it for all audiences and stop pretending like only black people want to see this.
[1:01:59] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Everybody want to see this.
[1:02:00] \[SPEAKER_04\]: The way that they talk about the hint at African-American culture like a little bit, but it's not that prevalent where like white people would be like, what's happening?
[1:02:09] \[SPEAKER_04\]: They would understand completely.
[1:02:11] \[SPEAKER_04\]: They would understand everything that's being talked about.
[1:02:14] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Also, personally, I like that they dealt with religion in a way that felt very respectful for sure, you know, and like they didn't shy away from him praying and stuff, they didn't also harp on it either, making it like, you know, there are some movies that are purely evangelical, which we'll talk about.
[1:02:31] \[SPEAKER_04\]: that at a moment but like there was there was something about that which I like I like that he was a man of faith that one of the ending moments was him like getting down and praying and like really not knowing what's you know and and trusting and that yeah so all that was cool the only thing that I have to say though is that my man like more just not
[1:02:51] \[SPEAKER_04\]: is not known to the white community.
[1:02:53] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I feel like outside of women, outside of women who know that he is sexy.
[1:02:57] \[SPEAKER_04\]: He's not the leading man that he should be in this movie.
[1:03:01] \[SPEAKER_04\]: He was amazing and Taydic's too.
[1:03:04] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And Tay was Howard too, actually.
[1:03:06] \[SPEAKER_04\]: They all were them because they're even, yeah, even Harold, because,
[1:03:09] \[SPEAKER_04\]: They're all really great, they're playing these different characters, they're acting well.
[1:03:13] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It's not just their personalities, they're really playing nice, well-rounded characters, and they're not getting the only movies, and maybe it's the part of their choice, I don't know, but it feels like the only movies these people are in are movies with all black cast, and then for whatever reason, the movies with all black cast are put into this one demographic, so it sucks, and in terms of that, I almost gave it a pop, but I didn't because the movie did what it was supposed to do, so I'm done.
[1:03:41] \[SPEAKER_08\]: You want to go use it, guys?
[1:03:42] \[SPEAKER_08\]: You can do it, man.
[1:03:43] \[SPEAKER_08\]: OK, yeah.
[1:03:43] \[SPEAKER_08\]: I gave it a fist, and I was ready to give it a fist after I saw it last night because this movie is great.
[1:03:49] \[SPEAKER_08\]: It's, I've been saying it throughout, but it's a movie about people being people, and these people happen to be black, and I think it's a beautiful thing.
[1:03:58] \[SPEAKER_08\]: The melodramatic moments, I,
[1:04:00] \[SPEAKER_08\]: loved.
[1:04:01] \[SPEAKER_08\]: I loved that.
[1:04:02] \[SPEAKER_08\]: But you love terrible movies.
[1:04:04] \[SPEAKER_08\]: Well, that's true.
[1:04:05] \[SPEAKER_08\]: But I win when there's parts of this movie that you can get ahead of them.
[1:04:11] \[SPEAKER_08\]: You know, when we find out that Mia is sick, then you immediately look at tonight's life and it's pregnant belly and you go, there's going to be a death and a birth.
[1:04:19] \[SPEAKER_08\]: You know that.
[1:04:20] \[SPEAKER_08\]: And you know it's going to happen at the same time.
[1:04:22] \[SPEAKER_08\]: But when it happens, it's beautiful.
[1:04:24] \[SPEAKER_08\]: It's great.
[1:04:25] \[SPEAKER_08\]: I think it's handled extremely well.
[1:04:27] \[SPEAKER_08\]: And I love that that Lance has to deliver the baby because now they both have been intimate with the other's wife.
[1:04:37] \[SPEAKER_08\]: Yeah, right?
[1:04:37] \[SPEAKER_08\]: Yeah, not thought that that was like, I thought that that was so funny.
[1:04:41] \[SPEAKER_08\]: And they treat it lightly, you know, they, they, they, because he tries to make it joke.
[1:04:44] \[SPEAKER_09\]: He tries to make it, I'm gonna go with it.
[1:04:47] \[SPEAKER_08\]: I'm gonna go with it.
[1:04:47] \[SPEAKER_08\]: I think that's what he said.
[1:04:48] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It's so dead, Pan.
[1:04:49] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah, he's just like, I'm gonna go with it, you know?
[1:04:51] \[SPEAKER_09\]: I think I think it's so funny and I love that that gets to happen at around the time that they're trying to reconcile They're just sorry, but the music the the the bait like the birth if you remember his daughter More chestness daughter was a stillborn baby as well came out.
[1:05:06] \[SPEAKER_08\]: He was and he has that he has that memory and that understanding which I don't know how successful
[1:05:11] \[SPEAKER_08\]: a berth like that in the backseat of a car would actually be.
[1:05:15] \[SPEAKER_08\]: But, but they they you have a good deep even deeper connection with that.
[1:05:19] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah, they're baby came out of these first.
[1:05:21] \[SPEAKER_04\]: They have a dramatic moment when they pull off.
[1:05:23] \[SPEAKER_04\]: They're like rushing.
[1:05:23] \[SPEAKER_04\]: They pull up to the hospital and then it would you know how it gets out and runs around the car and then opens the door and it's just like it's a girl.
[1:05:31] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah.
[1:05:31] \[SPEAKER_08\]: Yeah, I mean, it's just like all right, but but he says it's a girl on the night that his There's still Christ No, I have to wait, but has been there and then and then I just want to say this thing I didn't say it earlier, but about about what you were talking about J.B. about the race Connection and how people view this movie.
[1:05:51] \[SPEAKER_08\]: There's a there's a blog that I encourage everyone to go out and read on half-po
[1:05:55] \[SPEAKER_08\]: By this woman who appears in her black and white picture to be a white woman Olivia Cole and it's titled Why the best man holiday isn't race themed and what sets her off is a tweet by USA today That says hashtag breaking holiday nearly beats Thor so Thor.
[1:06:11] \[SPEAKER_08\]: I think two was out or maybe that yeah Thor too was out at that time Wow as as it almost beats it as Race themed films sore So wow yeah, how is the
[1:06:24] \[SPEAKER_08\]: That was what we tweeted that, but that was it today.
[1:06:26] \[SPEAKER_04\]: USA today and Ray themed racing and she has nothing to do with her.
[1:06:32] \[SPEAKER_08\]: Exactly and that's her and her whole thing is why are why are we saying it's race.
[1:06:37] \[SPEAKER_08\]: Wow and and she's she's saying exactly which is saying why doesn't movie with all why I just has romantic comedy source, you know, why does have to be raised and I encourage you all to read why I didn't reread it for for this podcast so I can't give any quotes and also
[1:06:54] \[SPEAKER_08\]: But I encourage you to check it out so I don't have pro her name is Olivia.
[1:06:56] \[SPEAKER_08\]: Yeah, let's read it out.
[1:06:57] \[SPEAKER_08\]: Yeah, and you should definitely check that out.
[1:07:00] \[SPEAKER_09\]: I mean, I...
[1:07:01] \[SPEAKER_09\]: And I like this movie a lot, man, and the thing is, the reason is, he just says, I hate this, man.
[1:07:07] \[SPEAKER_09\]: And I think that's a difficult thing, because to me, like, this movie calls me to question myself.
[1:07:12] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Because it did because it was a all black film, it was like, I immediately didn't want to, I can, right now as I talk to you guys, I can think of being on a subway and seeing the poster and being like, ugh.
[1:07:24] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You know it's so weird about it too.
[1:07:30] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Is that anybody who I know who saw the movie told me it was good And I never heard people say like I saw it wasn't that good everybody who saw it was like, oh man It's actually really good.
[1:07:40] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I've actually I heard a lot of people would say the same thing.
[1:07:42] \[SPEAKER_04\]: They'd be like they go You know, I you know best man Hollywood is actually a good movie like they would be they're surprised
[1:07:49] \[SPEAKER_04\]: is like, we're all surprised.
[1:07:51] \[SPEAKER_08\]: And people listening to this movie, new things to this podcast might be like, why are these men surprised?
[1:07:57] \[SPEAKER_08\]: I don't know, I don't know, so it's good.
[1:07:58] \[SPEAKER_09\]: It's like, it's, of course, it was good.
[1:08:00] \[SPEAKER_09\]: It's important.
[1:08:01] \[SPEAKER_09\]: It's important is, you know what?
[1:08:02] \[SPEAKER_09\]: This to me is like, like, hey, man, I'm not, I'm not sleeping on Black movies no more.
[1:08:07] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Like, I'm not, I'm not by the say, like, Black films with the, like, if I, I admit it, like, I, I used to say Black films would be like, a black movie because it felt, because it felt like,
[1:08:16] \[SPEAKER_09\]: It felt like belittling because, you know, of course, in a call all white movies, white movies.
[1:08:22] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Right.
[1:08:22] \[SPEAKER_09\]: So it had this stigma to it.
[1:08:24] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Yeah.
[1:08:24] \[SPEAKER_09\]: You know, and the thing is like, I played into it.
[1:08:27] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Well, you know what it is.
[1:08:28] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I played into that stigma.
[1:08:29] \[SPEAKER_04\]: The stigma to is that.
[1:08:31] \[SPEAKER_04\]: We think the movie is only going to deal with the black culture, and that all the jokes will be inside jokes and that if you were white you wouldn't understand it you wouldn't you couldn't you couldn't see yourself as a protagonist therefore you couldn't relate to it that it's such a lot and like I'm not saying that some films do I because I do do do do do feel like some films do that and also there's the idea that because it's a black movie because the quote unquote black movie that it doesn't have to be as good
[1:08:56] \[SPEAKER_04\]: because black people just want to see themselves on screen and therefore the quality doesn't need to be that good and some films will live up to that like we talk about Tyler Perry films but the fact of the matter is some films don't but nobody ever gives them the chance to or we go into it with such negative thinking in our head that it takes the film has to be so much better.
[1:09:16] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Black films are like black people, y'all.
[1:09:18] \[SPEAKER_03\]: That's what I mean.
[1:09:18] \[SPEAKER_09\]: That's what I mean.
[1:09:20] \[SPEAKER_09\]: And it's so interesting because like watching this movie and, and Bray, you touched on this.
[1:09:23] \[SPEAKER_09\]: That scene at the end.
[1:09:26] \[SPEAKER_09\]: When like more just in the, it's about to break.
[1:09:28] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Ooh.
[1:09:29] \[SPEAKER_09\]: And his boy runs up to hold him.
[1:09:32] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Oh man.
[1:09:32] \[SPEAKER_09\]: And then he's like, like, whoop.
[1:09:35] \[SPEAKER_09\]: I almost cried, but I didn't cause I'm a black man.
[1:09:37] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Ha ha ha.
[1:09:38] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Like honestly.
[1:09:39] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Yo, the thing is like, man, that was such a deep moment because
[1:09:43] \[SPEAKER_09\]: You don't see that often.
[1:09:45] \[SPEAKER_09\]: That's what that to me.
[1:09:46] \[SPEAKER_09\]: That's one thing you don't see.
[1:09:48] \[SPEAKER_09\]: You may see like black men, you know Chopping it up talking dabbing to the but you never see a broken black man We talked about it held we talked about it and creed that yeah, also Keegan talked about you know Will Smith and Assume it's favorite moment ever
[1:10:04] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Because like you never giving us because we have to be so tough because because you know black men or people of color period Let's say people of color period you have to be technically quote unquote better just to be comparable to a white counterpart So like you see this man this actively who now has proven his worth and broken the Russian record He is now in the legitimately the best of his time in his sport.
[1:10:27] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Yeah, his loss is wife and has to be held by his friend and to me like
[1:10:31] \[SPEAKER_09\]: That's all you want, man.
[1:10:32] \[SPEAKER_09\]: And I think that that right there is past color.
[1:10:34] \[SPEAKER_09\]: And I think this movie is so great, because it has made me question how I view black people and movie spirit.
[1:10:41] \[SPEAKER_08\]: And then talking about this movie being past color, I wrote down all the references to race in the movie.
[1:10:47] \[SPEAKER_08\]: And I realized that about 20 minutes in, I had stopped writing those.
[1:10:51] \[SPEAKER_08\]: And I was just watching people, because they only do like a cup, you know, they do the,
[1:10:55] \[SPEAKER_08\]: We got to get rid of the inward joke and then they make, you know, they make a couple about me along and her a man and then like I think Terrence Howard also makes like a light-skinned joke.
[1:11:02] \[SPEAKER_08\]: And then all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right,
[1:11:17] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Like, think about the amount of times like some weird niche like thing in white culture, not even, and I'm saying white culture as like the majority, but not even just white culture like, uh, like whatever some nerd thing is mentioned in some movie or like some, or a movie talks about some like weird like music thing that like only a certain amount of people know.
[1:11:33] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And nobody sits up there and goes, oh, this movie is only if you belong in X and so category, never, nobody ever thinks that, but you make three references to being black and now it's a racially down there.
[1:11:47] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Whoo!
[1:11:47] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Best man holiday.
[1:11:49] \[SPEAKER_04\]: More chestnut, take the eggs!
[1:11:50] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Drink that, y'all, drink it out.
[1:11:52] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Seriously.
[1:11:53] \[SPEAKER_04\]: So, uh, yeah, that is our episode, man.
[1:11:57] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Guys, if you didn't... Rit that movie, go back to it.
[1:12:00] \[SPEAKER_08\]: Honestly, yeah, you go buy it.
[1:12:01] \[SPEAKER_08\]: I watch it.
[1:12:02] \[SPEAKER_08\]: Watch it.
[1:12:03] \[SPEAKER_09\]: Merry Christmas, y'all.
