## Transcript

[0:07] \[SPEAKER_03\]: There's a little, there's a little Trojan Horses today, you know, because Jura was like, oh, here's a little fun.
[0:18] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Little Valentine's Day, little fun, Ramcon.
[0:20] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Swindle.
[0:23] \[SPEAKER_04\]: That's Swindle, that's Swindle.
[0:25] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Swindle.
[0:27] \[SPEAKER_04\]: The Swindle was real.
[0:28] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Swindle Pierce, that's what we're gonna call it.
[0:33] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I was, this was a swindle pierce.
[0:36] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I mean, it was definitely a swindle.
[0:37] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Do you know this is based on a real book?
[0:40] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Oh no.
[0:40] \[SPEAKER_03\]: This is a real book.
[0:41] \[SPEAKER_05\]: It's based on a book called Relationship Goals.
[0:44] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah, the full title is Relationship Goals.
[0:47] \[SPEAKER_03\]: How to win at dating, marriage, and sex.
[0:51] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You know what, once the movie started, I figured this was based on a book.
[0:55] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Like, really when the movie started, I was like, oh, this has, in this album, it's based on like a...
[1:01] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Sorry, they're just clarity before you continue, but it's based on like a How tube or like a it's based on the book to talk about in the movie.
[1:10] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah, yeah, yeah Okay, the book that they talk about the movie is real and the quotes that they're from the book are real And the guy who wrote it is the real person who wrote it.
[1:18] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Oh, yeah, okay, okay, sorry Yes, and the church that they go to is the real church
[1:24] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It was like, once they started listing stuff, and I'm seeing this pastor, this rich social media pastor pop up, nonstop, it started feeling like, um, uh, was that Steve Harvey book, I'm think like a man, I think like a man this started filming exactly like that and stuff for like the Christian version of thing like a man.
[1:45] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I haven't seen thinking like a man in so long, but just, but did that play like, like, like, did it play like, each scene was a, was a different lesson?
[1:56] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, so basically, like, so big, yeah.
[1:58] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So it was kind of like this almost to be honest, it's like a one point.
[2:00] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, I forgot one of the women, they get to book Steve Harvey, someone was watching T.D.
[2:06] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Steve Harvey is only talking about the book and then each,
[2:10] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Woman takes a different lesson from like I think it's I think it's archetype.
[2:14] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So it's like each woman takes on her archetype of a man Did they're trying to like break?
[2:20] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, they reference the but I think it literally at one point someone physically just holds up the book Like they just write Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, this is all this.
[2:28] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah, it's kind of like commercial and you know what?
[2:32] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Maybe some people will watch this movie then buy the book and then
[2:39] \[SPEAKER_00\]: post the picture of their loved one and say hash tag relationship goals.
[2:48] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And it'll be a beautiful thing.
[2:51] \[SPEAKER_00\]: And there it is.
[2:53] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Let's start the show wrong with that.
[2:55] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah, let's start it.
[2:56] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Let's just start.
[2:56] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Let's just go ahead and start the show.
[3:08] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Welcome to Black Men Can't Jump in Hollywood.
[3:22] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Hollywood City.
[3:23] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Thank you for your input, we have work in the morning.
[3:28] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Thank you for your input.
[3:29] \[SPEAKER_03\]: We have worked in the morning.
[3:31] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I was in fact my favorite line.
[3:33] \[SPEAKER_05\]: But she brought all of my favorite lines.
[3:35] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Great.
[3:36] \[SPEAKER_03\]: There is a line in this movie that I laughed out loud and thought it was one of the craziest things I've ever heard in my entire life.
[3:44] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And I don't remember it.
[3:45] \[SPEAKER_03\]: But I will.
[3:46] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I know when we talk about this, I will eventually remember what was said.
[3:51] \[SPEAKER_03\]: But it was one of the wildest things I've ever heard.
[3:56] \[SPEAKER_05\]: And it wasn't, and it, like, and I not, you don't expect a person to have said it or what, wild and what way, do you remember that?
[4:03] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It was like, it wild in the sense that like it was, it was said like it was, it was advice or said like it was something deep and it was just the craziest thing I've ever heard.
[4:12] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Which character said it?
[4:14] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It was either, it was either Robin Thitty or Annie Gonzalez.
[4:20] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I don't know which one of them.
[4:21] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It was one of the, one of the two friends.
[4:24] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah.
[4:25] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I will remember it.
[4:26] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Anyway, for those of you who are listening for the first time, welcome.
[4:35] \[SPEAKER_03\]: We are a film review podcast.
[4:36] \[SPEAKER_03\]: We review the films of leading black actors.
[4:39] \[SPEAKER_03\]: We talk about them in the context of race and diversity in Hollywood.
[4:42] \[SPEAKER_03\]: There are three of us that that host this podcast, the voice that you are listening to now that in 2012 would have 100% been
[4:54] \[SPEAKER_03\]: and would have been like, all over, just being like, yes, that's right, date with the purpose, date with the tension.
[5:04] \[SPEAKER_03\]: That's Jonathan Braylock.
[5:06] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You were thinking that in 2012?
[5:08] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Bray, he was on a home and don't do this.
[5:10] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Bray, Bray, he was out here in the street.
[5:12] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So like, I'm not even.
[5:14] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I'm not even.
[5:15] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Wait, wait, wait.
[5:16] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Hold on.
[5:17] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You went down here.
[5:18] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Hold on.
[5:19] \[SPEAKER_03\]: First of all.
[5:19] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, I say it when I say it.
[5:21] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I say it when I say it.
[5:22] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I say it when I say it.
[5:23] \[SPEAKER_03\]: 2012 is before 2014, which is when we met, which when I met you here, I was going to say this is not the period of time.
[5:33] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I like he like he read about relationships.
[5:36] \[SPEAKER_05\]: What?
[5:37] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Bray picked a specific year on purpose.
[5:40] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I'm not saying it is right now.
[5:42] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Bray must have read the books in 2012 and was like, not for me, and second of all that just like this character, just like met the man's character, you know, it's like, you know, you might not be messing up.
[6:01] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You might be messing up, but you still, you're trying to date with the intention.
[6:04] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Yeah, the options, you got the options are there.
[6:07] \[SPEAKER_05\]: What was it that he said?
[6:08] \[SPEAKER_05\]: He was like, I want to make sure that the person that I date.
[6:12] \[SPEAKER_05\]: is my future wife, right?
[6:14] \[SPEAKER_05\]: No, it's like so if we're dating, if I know I'm on this path with you.
[6:19] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But I remember the text message that popped up in the corrects in the middle of the car.
[6:25] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, in the middle of the car.
[6:26] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You know, he's like, I sure do.
[6:28] \[SPEAKER_05\]: This is that scene when I said this.
[6:32] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Big daddy.
[6:33] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I miss you big daddy's have not introduced yourself at all.
[6:37] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I don't need knowledge.
[6:37] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, I don't know.
[6:38] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Awesome.
[6:39] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, I don't know what's going on.
[6:41] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I mean, uh, this voice is at a draw.
[6:43] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Milligan.
[6:44] \[SPEAKER_05\]: This voice, who probably would have thought he needed to read a book like this, not in 2012.
[6:50] \[SPEAKER_05\]: By then, I was far gone, but in like maybe like
[6:53] \[SPEAKER_05\]: 2004, you know, like, quote, like, post, uh, I won't say what was going on in 2004, but it at a specific time, high school is fine.
[7:01] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I'm about to be 40.
[7:02] \[SPEAKER_05\]: You don't, I don't care.
[7:03] \[SPEAKER_05\]: 2004, leave it high school going into college.
[7:06] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I would have thought a book like this was necessary.
[7:08] \[SPEAKER_05\]: That voice is James III.
[7:10] \[SPEAKER_05\]: You just thought that in high school?
[7:12] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Yeah, I was very, I had a long time girlfriend at the, at the, at the time who was very religious.
[7:20] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I was also very religious at the time.
[7:22] \[SPEAKER_05\]: And like, I am now far from that person in terms of how my view of like religious practice, but for myself, but, um, but yeah, at that time it would have been like, yep, and you, and I probably would say some stuff like, and you aren't that person from me.
[7:38] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I probably said stuff like that to hurt.
[7:41] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Probably would have been on that path specifically at that time totally different now.
[7:47] \[SPEAKER_03\]: We are reviewing the film relationship goals to Amazon Prime original straight.
[7:53] \[SPEAKER_03\]: To video on demand, it stars Kelly Rowland and Cliff method man Smith.
[8:00] \[SPEAKER_03\]: That's right.
[8:01] \[SPEAKER_03\]: He used his full name.
[8:02] \[SPEAKER_03\]: He acted in he acted in he out here.
[8:05] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Also stars Robin Theed.
[8:08] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Theed is a deed or Theedy.
[8:09] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Robin Theedy.
[8:10] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It is Theedy, right?
[8:12] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And he can sound as Matt Walsh is in this.
[8:17] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Ryan Jamal Swing.
[8:19] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And it is based off of this real, this real book, real pastor, like we said, currently M 23% on rotting to May 2's.
[8:31] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Wow.
[8:31] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Interesting.
[8:33] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I'm very intrigued by that as a popcorn meter, though, popcorn meter 42%.
[8:40] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Okay, and also intriguing.
[8:43] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I'm a tree still frankly still I'm still intrigued me still.
[8:46] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, still not great.
[8:47] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Still not this you low five tone I find both reviews a tree There's obviously no box of this for this and yeah, this book came out in 2020 and the movie came out February 4th
[9:03] \[SPEAKER_03\]: So that's all, there is to really say it's about, well, I guess we could say the premise, it's about a high powered brilliant producer who wants to be the first woman to run a
[9:29] \[SPEAKER_03\]: love ensues.
[9:31] \[SPEAKER_02\]: What's funny about this premise is that the premise is so interesting because Robin Thitty was the first black woman to show run in late night.
[9:41] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And so to have her in an even think of that connection.
[9:44] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah.
[9:44] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So to have her in this movie about black woman who's trying to be a showrunner and Dave Trump TV.
[9:51] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I was like, oh, so so interesting.
[9:53] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah.
[9:53] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And she was on camera presence in in this movie.
[9:58] \[SPEAKER_02\]: one of those done purposeful lady yeah potentially intentional should we do i mean i could do my initial thoughts um yeah i got you know you know i did not enjoy this movie but i will say as a person who likes romcom's i like that it exists and i mean that by um i can't i can't think of just a like this movie feels like a
[10:24] \[SPEAKER_02\]: like like those old like uh uh uh there's a difficult fox there's a difficult fox a more chestnut movie where it's like a rum come like this and she's like talking to the camera it's basically like the black version of like um like you know the main white comp uh rum comes
[10:49] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I was thrown off by all the religious undertones of it.
[10:52] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I think also when it comes to this particular pastor, that made me really feel weird about the movie too.
[11:01] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Just, you know, I don't want to condemn this man, but like, you know, that kind of pastor is very polarizing.
[11:09] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Like the mega church, the mega church, very famous.
[11:12] \[SPEAKER_05\]: But him in particular, like literally him, like this guy in particular is, you know, but there are, but when you're on that platform, you're going to get like, you're not going to have universal, you're not going to be universally below true.
[11:28] \[SPEAKER_05\]: That's pretty.
[11:28] \[SPEAKER_05\]: But particularly, you know, when you're when you're a pastor or I mean, I will figure.
[11:34] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I will say this, it did the one tangent is the juice keep it that does that deals with the three major passers and including him when he's dressed as him and he's like, I'm wearing, um, leave a tongs and I'm wearing red bottoms because I'm marching in the blood of Christ.
[11:50] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I haven't seen that.
[11:52] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I was waiting for three minutes.
[11:54] \[SPEAKER_02\]: The three major, so basically on social media is this guy.
[11:59] \[SPEAKER_02\]: There's another older pastor who has a rig where he flies into the audience.
[12:03] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Wow.
[12:04] \[SPEAKER_02\]: There's a video of the pastor James James.
[12:08] \[SPEAKER_02\]: J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J
[12:25] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So he doesn't make fun of TDJ in this video, it's the guy in this video, it's another old black man and it's one more passer.
[12:32] \[SPEAKER_02\]: There's one part.
[12:33] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Anyway, y'all watch it.
[12:34] \[SPEAKER_02\]: If you're going to take talk people like side by side how he copied the videos of like the real stuff they did.
[12:40] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And it's just like, oh my god, people did this.
[12:42] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Also, I think the thing I struggle with too.
[12:44] \[SPEAKER_02\]: is that I do love a rom-com.
[12:46] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I just don't think rom-coms have to be this silly.
[12:48] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Sometimes I think if you look back at the classics of, you know, when Harriet Messali, like, um, nodding hill, they do have a lightness to them, but I think people are like,
[12:59] \[SPEAKER_02\]: taking them serious like I like methamen so I'm not trying to get shanked by methamen but like methamen was doing the most like I felt like everybody was acting like we're in a TV romcom like from the headbop to the I mean we'd only had the queer best friend like methamen spoke to no mail at any point in the house out of the bus like he he spoke to nobody
[13:23] \[SPEAKER_02\]: there was a dance number in the middle of this movie that served no actual purpose.
[13:27] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I liked it.
[13:28] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I liked the dance number.
[13:29] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It was fun.
[13:30] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I thought they're at least going to pop out and have to make fun of them.
[13:33] \[SPEAKER_02\]: They just left.
[13:33] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Like, let it see.
[13:34] \[SPEAKER_05\]: They just like, I was expecting a pop out because it because that was what was funny about it.
[13:39] \[SPEAKER_05\]: It was funny that they
[13:41] \[SPEAKER_05\]: that there was nobody there and so that was why they did it like it was almost like oh this is I haven't seen this before and this is like this is a funny take on a middle of the movie dance number you know but then they didn't have the pop-out which I think which I think and it was so long that scene was like three to four minutes I was like what is happening um anyway again I'm happy it exists if it's not my cup of tea but um yeah like I'm truly
[14:08] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Yeah, if you have a lot to say, Bray, I'll go quick and then I'll pass it to you.
[14:13] \[SPEAKER_05\]: But, um,
[14:14] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Yeah, I, you know, this is not my favorite movie.
[14:19] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I appreciate the attempt for sure.
[14:21] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I thought that the talent was, I thought everybody was, was good, you know, I didn't, you know, I thought everybody did what they were supposed to do.
[14:31] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I mentioned to the guys off my guy auditioned for the assistant role.
[14:35] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I was not expecting to get it.
[14:36] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I thought this guy was great for what they were looking for.
[14:42] \[SPEAKER_05\]: And, and yeah, and I think I'll use the dance number to talk about one of my biggest, I had two big issues with it.
[14:49] \[SPEAKER_05\]: One is like, that it just really felt like the movie was trying to teach me.
[14:54] \[SPEAKER_05\]: And like, and I, and I don't, I didn't remember that about, think like a, like a man.
[14:59] \[SPEAKER_05\]: But I never saw the sequel to Think Like a Man and I wonder if that's potentially why.
[15:02] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Maybe I didn't like the first, like a man on the same level.
[15:06] \[SPEAKER_05\]: But I didn't like that it felt like every scene was like a lesson rather than just dropping me into this world.
[15:11] \[SPEAKER_05\]: And I can maybe like discern a lesson later.
[15:13] \[SPEAKER_05\]: And then the other thing I didn't like was the humor felt like just kind of undercooked and or reaching.
[15:20] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Like I don't know if I agree 100% with what you were saying about like how like,
[15:26] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Like being slaps sticky like I'm okay with a rom-com being slaps sticky.
[15:30] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I think that's okay But I just thought that some of the stuff here like didn't quite have all the things that need it like the like like the dance number not having the pop out of somebody being like Ladies please or would it or like people finally showing up and Dancing in the middle or would it like any kind of pop out and and having a comment on what we were just watching because I thought that the
[15:52] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I did the setup of it, I thought was was fun.
[15:55] \[SPEAKER_05\]: And so it was just a lot of stuff like that.
[15:57] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I did like the, you know, the friend group and like, and, you know, and they were like, they were making me laugh and stuff like that.
[16:06] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Oh, and then the last thing that just engine on a personal level that bothered me was I legitimately
[16:13] \[SPEAKER_05\]: got the Ike every time Robin Thitty got mad at the guy being into basketball because that was his career and he was retiring and like he's retiring from his career and she kept saying why why is everything about basketball because you and granted maybe
[16:36] \[SPEAKER_05\]: that was a problem like it was getting in the way of them of them connecting, but like at the end when when we're trying to reconnect, she kept saying, why is it about basketball?
[16:46] \[SPEAKER_05\]: And it's like, well, basketball is a big part of this man's life.
[16:50] \[SPEAKER_05\]: It was his career.
[16:51] \[SPEAKER_05\]: He's very tired from it.
[16:53] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I don't understand.
[16:54] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Like it worked for me when they then made the joke of like that better not be a championship ring.
[16:59] \[SPEAKER_05\]: It was like, oh, that's yes.
[17:00] \[SPEAKER_05\]: That's funny.
[17:02] \[SPEAKER_05\]: You know, like that's that's making a joke out of it, but the other parts I was like I don't think I Like how like if that's the person who's been in your life with and they built their financial Stability
[17:18] \[SPEAKER_03\]: on boys and sisters passion.
[17:20] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I mean, yeah, you're talking about specifically, he said, like, since we've been separated, like, I've been, I've been so depressed.
[17:29] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I have, I can't believe I have a sleep.
[17:31] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I can't even play basketball.
[17:32] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And she's like, why is everything about basketball?
[17:34] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And he's like, that's not what he said at all.
[17:36] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah, it's not, it's actually not what he said at all.
[17:39] \[SPEAKER_03\]: He's telling you all the things that he can't do because he's sad and she took a complete other direction.
[17:47] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, well also this movie was very alike.
[17:51] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You know, I'm not gonna lie to you.
[17:52] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I thought this movie going into it, cause I didn't watch the trailer or anything like that.
[17:56] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I thought it was gonna be more balanced.
[17:58] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I thought it would be like, maybe met the man and his friends and then like, sure, carry rolling in her friends.
[18:04] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I thought it would be more of a balanced film.
[18:06] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But low key to this movie was just like, man, we're a quick, not like, like, it was just, like, I mean, no, it was very geared towards women.
[18:15] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yes, 100%.
[18:17] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It was very,
[18:19] \[SPEAKER_03\]: But at the same time, okay.
[18:22] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah, no, I'm done.
[18:23] \[SPEAKER_03\]: So if you want to, this movie.
[18:26] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Like, I also did not like it.
[18:29] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I, I don't think I can say I'm happy it exists because I feel like.
[18:36] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Okay.
[18:39] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I come from this world, and so I sometimes feel like I want to defend this kind of, or I should say, I don't come from this world, this is a specific type, but I went to
[19:00] \[SPEAKER_03\]: We didn't, our pastor didn't like, I don't think we didn't write up that selling, you know, book that was like New York Times best sell or anything like that, but like these like super famous pastors who like give advice and then like, and then we hear the advice like I think my the my biggest cry with this movie is like
[19:22] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It is the thing that Kelly Rowland accuses Method Man of Doing when they do the interview.
[19:29] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Like this whole movie is that.
[19:31] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It's like it doesn't go deep at all, doesn't challenge the source material, doesn't explore it in any way.
[19:39] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Like all the advice it gives is so basic and like one of the things in Christian culture
[19:52] \[SPEAKER_03\]: advice that people give dating is like you have so many of these pastors because it's considered a good thing that people like married their high school sweetheart like you have good thing.
[20:04] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Thank you, Drew.
[20:05] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I don't know.
[20:05] \[SPEAKER_03\]: But like, that's what's because, you know why they think it's a good thing because there's like, there's a presumed innocence attached to it.
[20:13] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And there's also this like understanding of like, I didn't like, I wasn't going around sleeping with a bunch of people.
[20:19] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Like, I married like my first love, that kind of thing.
[20:23] \[SPEAKER_03\]: But like, threeality is like, these people have absolutely no business giving other people relationship advice.
[20:31] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Zero, they have no experience in it.
[20:35] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And like when it's like this guy was like, he's talking in the movie as himself being like, yeah, like I wasn't doing the right thing about blind.
[20:44] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Like we don't know what that is.
[20:45] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And like I remember our pastor before a scandal took him down would say the same thing.
[20:51] \[SPEAKER_03\]: He would talk about like something in his past, but it was so like, it was so obscure, like it wasn't, he was just like, oh, like I let my wife down
[21:05] \[SPEAKER_03\]: What does that mean?
[21:05] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Like, did you cheat on her?
[21:07] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Like, what did you do exactly?
[21:08] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Like, they're, they don't talk about what actually happens and they paint everything with this broad brush of like, if you just focus on God and like God will bring the person that you need into your life and don't settle for, for less, you know, and they're giving people all of these things to follow.
[21:25] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And yet you have, I mean, I remember like growing up in church, there is all of these lonely, like,
[21:33] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Aging women who are listening to this thing and then there's all these men who
[21:40] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I have to view women as these delicate flowers that you can't, you know what I mean?
[21:46] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Like, if you start dating them, it'd better be with the intent to marry, which puts so much pressure on relationships.
[21:53] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And so then, none of these relationships are healthy.
[21:56] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Like, not none, I shouldn't say none.
[21:57] \[SPEAKER_03\]: But so many of them aren't healthy.
[22:00] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And it's why the divorce rate in the church is just as high as the divorce rate in the world.
[22:05] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And yet... Yeah.
[22:07] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And yet, they keep making stuff like this.
[22:09] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Like, they keep making these things so that they're like, they're not saying anything.
[22:13] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Like, this dude being like, date with intention, like, it's a big thing, the analogy of, what was it?
[22:21] \[SPEAKER_03\]: What was the food?
[22:23] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Chicken nuggets?
[22:24] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah, I was like, what are we doing?
[22:27] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Also, what, first off, Jack, but break.
[22:30] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Go back to the world.
[22:31] \[SPEAKER_02\]: In what world has, in, I've never seen this.
[22:34] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And I'm about to be a 40-year-old man.
[22:37] \[SPEAKER_02\]: it's take a bunch of bites out of a chicken nugget and put it back into the best.
[22:44] \[SPEAKER_05\]: It doesn't even work as a concept.
[22:46] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It doesn't even work.
[22:48] \[SPEAKER_03\]: What are you saying?
[22:50] \[SPEAKER_03\]: What does that even mean?
[22:51] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Like, Nick, be better.
[22:53] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Because also it's like, it's also like any, any food is like a physical thing that you can completely consume and that it's not there anymore.
[23:01] \[SPEAKER_03\]: So like the idea that like your,
[23:05] \[SPEAKER_03\]: what virginity or your love or sex or any of that stuff is something that if you give some of it away, it's gone forever and you only have some finite amount of it to give out.
[23:20] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It's just a weird concept.
[23:22] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I'm not even talking.
[23:23] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I'm not even necessarily like,
[23:26] \[SPEAKER_03\]: really against the the concept of no sex before marriage.
[23:29] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I'm just saying like which is a concept that I fully believed in like I'm just saying like
[23:37] \[SPEAKER_03\]: If you are going to tell people, that's what they need to do, then you need to get deeper into like, how people are supposed to survive in this world, where people aren't getting married at 13.
[23:50] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Like when the Bible was written, they used people were getting married when they were teenagers.
[23:55] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And you're asking like 35 year-old, 40, like how will this Robin Thitty supposed to be in this movie?
[24:01] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Like you're asking like,
[24:02] \[SPEAKER_03\]: you're asking grown adults to be like, uh, you can't, you can't have sex.
[24:08] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You can't like, the people that you date, like, what's this, this woman's they, I mean, how a lot.
[24:14] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I mean, maybe it's just getting to it.
[24:15] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Yes, and what even really does date with intention mean, what does it mean?
[24:19] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Because because, because,
[24:20] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Do they doesn't mean with intent to marry or does it mean my intention is to learn how I am with another person Like what does your attention?
[24:28] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I think it's not to be it's too married I think that's what they're talking about Yeah, I think it's like either met your marionist person or you're not because which is absurd Robin Thedi talking about it, but then low key not low key.
[24:39] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I don't know I can say okay, but then Met the man that's his whole thing like his whole thing is this is it which I understand This is my thing I understand
[24:49] \[SPEAKER_02\]: being with someone for three years or something and saying, hey, where is this going?
[24:55] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I think that's a legitimate conversation.
[24:58] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yes, of course.
[24:58] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, a hundred percent, especially if you want, so if you want it to be somewhere.
[25:03] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, especially, so I understand it.
[25:05] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I just think the thing about this movie that's so hard is that it feels like there's no,
[25:12] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I think break you hit on this.
[25:13] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It just doesn't feel realistic.
[25:14] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It felt like it doesn't take in what Martin dating looks like now, like I was seeing as a person dating now, looks stressful because we live off of apps.
[25:23] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Even Instagram, even if you're not on the dating app, Instagram is your dating app.
[25:28] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You're looking at the best version of this person.
[25:30] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And the thing about it is we live in a world where there's always a new person.
[25:34] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah.
[25:34] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Quickly.
[25:35] \[SPEAKER_05\]: And frankly, it feels like it needed to a drag.
[25:40] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Like, I appreciated the scene, the text message scene that we've already talked about where, you know, the basic hits, the big daddy text blah blah blah and so we learn like he actually is still kind of seeing someone here and there, but he doesn't refer to that as dating like like apparently that is not.
[25:58] \[SPEAKER_05\]: dating to him and like the movie doesn't dive into what that even means to him if he is sort of going by this book, you know, what it means to have had a night with this person or a lunch with that person or whatever, like it refusing to explore that.
[26:18] \[SPEAKER_05\]: And maybe the book does explore it a little bit more, you know, I don't know.
[26:21] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I'm sure to explore this a little bit more, like the movie, like the movie.
[26:25] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Like the thing is, like, it's so hard hitting because, you know, we take it from, like, the top of it.
[26:31] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And you know what this is, movie plays in the tropes that again, I'm not sure if it's in the book or if they added it for the movie.
[26:36] \[SPEAKER_02\]: The fact that she has, like, a list.
[26:38] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Like this is a grown ass woman still to list like what a man and again, I wish we had a black woman on here because I'm like I listen in saying to have as a 40 something year old woman.
[26:50] \[SPEAKER_02\]: No, was that true?
[26:52] \[SPEAKER_03\]: No, no, I mean, look, I do think like not sure.
[26:55] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I think it's a Haitian version.
[26:58] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I mean, what, yeah, exactly.
[26:59] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Like it's a high inversion of what, I do think some people do have in their mind like I want my person to be blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
[27:06] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And it's not just women men do that, too.
[27:07] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Like, I mean, the whole running joke on science field was there's always like something wrong with the woman, like, you know, whatever.
[27:15] \[SPEAKER_03\]: But the thing that's annoying is like, once again, we have this,
[27:19] \[SPEAKER_03\]: this very old annoying stereotype of a career business woman who has it all except she doesn't have a man and everybody's looking at her like you need a man in your life and she's like no I don't and then of course the end of the movie is like yes I do like oh my dear isn't fulfilling my life sucks like I'm not complete and whole until I get married and again
[27:43] \[SPEAKER_03\]: There's nothing wrong with wanting to be married.
[27:45] \[SPEAKER_03\]: There's nothing wrong with wanting a relationship.
[27:48] \[SPEAKER_03\]: But I hate that it's like you have to like teach like, mm-hmm, like every any woman who like values their career over relationship.
[27:56] \[SPEAKER_03\]: There's something wrong with them and they're not being honest with themselves.
[27:59] \[SPEAKER_03\]: The reality is they only want a man, right?
[28:02] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Like,
[28:03] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It's just, it's just like it's such an annoying, it's just such an annoying stereotype.
[28:09] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And it, and it, you know, patch your weights this idea that like everybody means to be in a relationship, which isn't even necessarily true.
[28:17] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And it's something about that conversation, where I'm like, if you had three people,
[28:23] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Even if even if you take the assistant best friend, I'm like, one of them could have had that perspective, but I'm like, I'm good.
[28:30] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Like, I'm dating, I'm good.
[28:32] \[SPEAKER_02\]: What does that look like?
[28:33] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And I guess that's not what this movie was about.
[28:35] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It's supposed to be about methamen and Kelly Rowland being ended up.
[28:39] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Also, you know what it was?
[28:41] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Is that methamen in this movie?
[28:46] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Started off the movie already fixed.
[28:48] \[SPEAKER_02\]: outside of that one text with the text.
[28:50] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So we didn't see like the only combativeness in this movie was just Kelly Rolling, being like, I don't trust him.
[28:56] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Like, there was one scene I watched towards the end as they hooked up.
[28:59] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And then she like kind of crashed out.
[29:00] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And I go, this crash out is crazy.
[29:03] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Like this crash out.
[29:04] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Like we've seen, because at that point, we've seen that we like each other montage.
[29:09] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Like we've seen them gush over each other in public at this point.
[29:13] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And to me, it's like I do understand of like,
[29:18] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You're probably trying to trick me, but at no point in this movie, at that point, it was hour and five minutes or hour and two minutes in.
[29:25] \[SPEAKER_02\]: He shows you, he was a different dude, like he took you to church.
[29:29] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yes.
[29:29] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Like he didn't backslide.
[29:32] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Again, he came next single, so like him getting a little risky text.
[29:36] \[SPEAKER_02\]: That wasn't even a spicy text.
[29:37] \[SPEAKER_02\]: If big daddy is the craziest text that man is getting, and you in the streets,
[29:44] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Like, you know what I'm saying?
[29:46] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Yeah, well, the whole movie is this brief window into Geraz, text message.
[29:50] \[SPEAKER_02\]: How is it saying?
[29:52] \[SPEAKER_02\]: If the wildest text, I'm being truthy on this.
[29:55] \[SPEAKER_02\]: The thing I struggle with sometimes when it comes to Christian movies, when it deals with like sex and relationships, is that it almost makes it seem like anything is bad.
[30:08] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And if that's a stand, remember like Talipirri had that one movie where,
[30:12] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Oh my god, I had Kelly Rowland in it.
[30:14] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It was the Kelly Rowland movie and then when she talking about the beginning of the movie, she goes, I heard you're a sexual deeming it.
[30:24] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You like the top people up.
[30:25] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And I was like, oh, handcuff, I was like, wait, that's.
[30:29] \[SPEAKER_02\]: This is out of every kind of crazy thing you're saying about sex.
[30:32] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Like this is the, this is the sexual deviant part of it.
[30:37] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Like this is the thing.
[30:38] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah.
[30:38] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I just feel like, I just feel like it's moving.
[30:40] \[SPEAKER_02\]: These aren't realistic in like, I thought what was going to happen was.
[30:44] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I thought when she said, you know, the state of Texas, I thought it was about to be like, like, wow.
[30:51] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And I thought he was going to have, or like, it's a company in a photo.
[30:54] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I thought it was going to be something a big daddy.
[30:56] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Big daddy, who is his big daddy for real?
[31:00] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I feel like the issue with, it's so funny because I didn't even consider what you're saying because you are correct.
[31:04] \[SPEAKER_05\]: The way that I read that scene was like, if somebody's calling him big daddy and it's a random person.
[31:13] \[SPEAKER_05\]: then it just implies that he's still in there.
[31:16] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, because he said any turn in my player card.
[31:19] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It's just still dating.
[31:20] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Like my thing is this like, like I, it's hard because I think when you're dating somebody say you're dating multiple people, those conversations get intimate and that doesn't like, right?
[31:30] \[SPEAKER_02\]: That's, it's, it's, so, so, so.
[31:32] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Could it be different if it was a montage of just like, you know, he went to a restaurant ran into somebody.
[31:38] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Oh my god, a one Texas made came through.
[31:40] \[SPEAKER_02\]: This message is from Cindy.
[31:42] \[SPEAKER_02\]: This message is from Lisa.
[31:44] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I'm like, that's different, but one person.
[31:46] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah.
[31:47] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Also, also James, he said that I haven't spoken to that person in a long time.
[31:52] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I actually don't think I actually don't think we were supposed to believe that he was doing anything wrong.
[31:57] \[SPEAKER_03\]: because the movie never, he'd ever apologize for that or a drip.
[32:01] \[SPEAKER_03\]: There's nothing that happens in the movie that is like the only, the literally the only thing that he apologized for is like competing for trying to jump with her, which is not a bad thing.
[32:13] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And they know that the audience also knows that.
[32:16] \[SPEAKER_03\]: So like,
[32:18] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I will have to say this too, because I didn't say my initial thoughts.
[32:21] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Like, I'm sorry, zero chemistry between these two.
[32:25] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Like, I do not, I was just like, every time they were like, whoa, like, whoa, what's going on between you two?
[32:32] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I was like, you guys have to say this because I'm not seeing it.
[32:36] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Like, yes, at a certain point, moments you're getting close to each other and you're like smiling whatever, but I like,
[32:42] \[SPEAKER_05\]: He was like, you're the one I love.
[32:44] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I was like, I don't believe this in the slightest.
[32:47] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I didn't.
[32:47] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So James, at that point to what you're embracing, I think that's the, that is what is like damned rom-coms.
[32:56] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I think the thing is, is that they didn't need to hand anything up.
[32:58] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I think like, I think Kelly went very much into, I'm a business woman.
[33:03] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I don't like this man.
[33:05] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And metham man went into very much.
[33:07] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I have to be extra smart.
[33:08] \[SPEAKER_02\]: He's smiling in almost every scene.
[33:11] \[SPEAKER_03\]: like he is like when he said that speech or talking about James I thought it was a bit yeah like I think I can say this because I have like method man and in other movies he's been in and he's also really funny like
[33:25] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I did not like him in this movie.
[33:26] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Like I didn't think he was, I didn't think he was good.
[33:29] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Like it was, it didn't, I can't, I can't confirm that because I'm scared of methamet.
[33:34] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And I just feel like he'd be like, I'm, I'm scared of the MET, HOD, man.
[33:38] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Then the big hit.
[33:42] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I just didn't, like it just, for whatever reason, like I didn't feel his, I didn't feel his attraction to Kelly Rollin' much.
[33:55] \[SPEAKER_03\]: everything felt like everything felt like by the numbers, like it, you know, basically what you were kind of saying drove, like he's smiling a lot, like the jokes weren't really landing the right way.
[34:08] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And like the moments where he was trying to be romantic and sexy was just like, okay, like, because the mere culpa thing, like for as crazy as a movie that was, I did think that like they had sexual.
[34:23] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Gordon, was it, yeah, my fault or whatever.
[34:26] \[SPEAKER_02\]: No, I do agree, but I also think you have black, I'm sorry, I need to look up his acting technique.
[34:32] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I also think he, I also think he played it differently.
[34:37] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I think, and again, I think that's the issue with a rom-com.
[34:40] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I, I want to say maybe they were directed to perform in that way where was very high in was very like, I mean, bro, at one point,
[34:49] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I remember her met the man standing in the in the in the bullpen and his head is just Bob it like it's just Bob in right he's trying like the lividies like jokes and stuff and I don't think you needed it.
[35:01] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I think you just needed to show that they were love and just let her friends be the funny ones.
[35:05] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You know what I mean?
[35:05] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Like I mean the montage of him singing throwmatic songs and her getting to know it felt very
[35:14] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It felt, I've never seen a lifetime movie, but I was like, if, but I'm like, just 100%.
[35:19] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I've been in one movie, a hundred percent.
[35:23] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And everything felt forced, like, okay, just maybe, yeah.
[35:27] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yes, home, home, home, home.
[35:28] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Okay, by the way, speaking of it, like, okay.
[35:32] \[SPEAKER_03\]: We have three women and they all have their, they all have problems, right?
[35:35] \[SPEAKER_03\]: That needs that the book needs to fix.
[35:38] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Kelly Rowland is that she needs to like unpack, what I forgot what the phrase that they were saying, but like she needs to like unpack her old stuff so that she can pack in the nearer.
[35:52] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Or something like that, like a new part of that was like letting go of her or actually mourning her mom.
[36:00] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Which oh my god.
[36:03] \[SPEAKER_03\]: There it is.
[36:04] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yes, I knew I would remember this.
[36:06] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I knew I would remember this.
[36:09] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Okay, the dad says, Hold on, I'm trying to get exactly right.
[36:14] \[SPEAKER_03\]: But they're talking it's that it wasn't either of those I was lying.
[36:17] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It was Kelly Rowland who said it.
[36:18] \[SPEAKER_03\]: The dad, they're having a conversation about the fat her mom died of.
[36:22] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Her mom died and the dad was like, oh, come to the, come to the grave with me.
[36:26] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I wish you would come to the grave with me, blah, blah, and then he says something to her, like, he says something about God.
[36:33] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I forgot what he says.
[36:35] \[SPEAKER_03\]: No, oh, oh, he says like, no, he says something about love.
[36:38] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Like, he's like, he's like, I, I know that you're so focused on your career, but I think
[36:45] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I feel like you need love in your life, like you need love in your life, and she's like, you had love in your life, and then mom died of cancer.
[36:54] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah.
[36:54] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I don't know that.
[36:56] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And a kitchen, I remember that.
[36:57] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Or a living room.
[36:58] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It's like...
[37:00] \[SPEAKER_03\]: What does that have anything to do?
[37:03] \[SPEAKER_03\]: What are we talking about?
[37:05] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Well, like, but she said, what she was trying to say there, because that comes way, you framed it as advice earlier.
[37:11] \[SPEAKER_05\]: But she's saying it as, like, I mean, you have to put all of this into it.
[37:16] \[SPEAKER_05\]: It's not really there on screen.
[37:18] \[SPEAKER_05\]: But she's saying, like, you know,
[37:20] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Why should I give myself to a person if I'm just going to lose them, right?
[37:25] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Like that's like that's essentially what she's true what they're trying to say.
[37:29] \[SPEAKER_05\]: So like that's like that has been motivating her this whole time and we didn't realize it.
[37:33] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You know, that is a good movie though.
[37:35] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Like right, what you're saying right now, if we were going through this movie, and we realized it like,
[37:42] \[SPEAKER_02\]: maybe, you know, after methamenable for methamen, like someone she dated passed away.
[37:46] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And that was the guy, you know, and like now all of a sudden, she is, because I under, but it doesn't have to be understood.
[37:53] \[SPEAKER_05\]: It doesn't have to be after methamen in my opinion.
[37:55] \[SPEAKER_05\]: It's like, it's that like the way that she treated methamen.
[37:59] \[SPEAKER_05\]: she'd never let him get close because she doesn't let anybody get close because why get close to people.
[38:07] \[SPEAKER_05\]: You know what I mean?
[38:07] \[SPEAKER_05\]: But they're not right that.
[38:08] \[SPEAKER_03\]: They're they which also doesn't really make sense though because her mom died like only a couple years ago.
[38:14] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, so the methamen thing happened before and it's true.
[38:17] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It's like, I'm not like the gravestone say that you want to do it.
[38:19] \[SPEAKER_02\]: One, yeah, yeah, yeah, it was sucks.
[38:22] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I think that's a really good story.
[38:23] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Like I understand that fear.
[38:25] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Well, when somebody that you care about gets sick, like there's nothing you can do.
[38:29] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Nothing.
[38:30] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And so for me, it's like that is such a relatable thing.
[38:32] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But nothing in this movie touched on that.
[38:34] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It was like, oh, it wasn't no.
[38:35] \[SPEAKER_03\]: He cheated on me once a year ago exactly and then I haven't trust the man since Yeah, it's literally what the movie was like he cheated on me 20 years ago and since then I've I've never dated men because I can't trust men.
[38:49] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Oh and so then that's where the advice comes in because it's sort of like Essentially she's like relationships don't work at all look at you look at you Just died of cancer a couple years ago
[39:00] \[SPEAKER_05\]: If anything, the mom should have just died after living most of her life.
[39:04] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It was literally like, I was like, well, yeah, everyone's going to die, honey.
[39:08] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Like, I understand, like, I understand she died like, like, a little bit younger than she should have, like, she was in her early sixties and that sucks.
[39:17] \[SPEAKER_03\]: But like, let's not pretend like he didn't get a bunch of years of marriage.
[39:21] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It was great with love.
[39:23] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Like, what the hell are we talking about?
[39:25] \[SPEAKER_03\]: What are you talking about?
[39:26] \[SPEAKER_03\]: What a crazy thing to say.
[39:28] \[SPEAKER_01\]: It was, it was an incident.
[39:29] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It was, it made no sense.
[39:31] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And I was just like, what are we?
[39:33] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And it was also the first time that we heard that the mom died of cancer.
[39:36] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And I was just like, what did insane way to give us this information in this scene?
[39:40] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah.
[39:41] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Which makes no sense.
[39:42] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Just like, you had a question.
[39:44] \[SPEAKER_02\]: If the mom would have left because the mom cheated on the dad, she could have been like, well, you a mom were married for 1 years and that would be different.
[39:53] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I mean, even, I'm not gonna lie.
[39:56] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I struggled, I struggled with a lot of the story, like the Robin D.D.
[39:59] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I understand, so I do understand this.
[40:02] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I've met a fact there was just like a times, crap, was it time?
[40:07] \[SPEAKER_02\]: They someone did a report recently, came out around Valentine's Day, and it was about people.
[40:13] \[SPEAKER_02\]: being scared to date because they didn't want to be the in-between partner.
[40:18] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Basically, I mean, in the partner that gets the person ready for the person they're going to marry.
[40:24] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And it had all these examples of people who were like, we were together for five years, and then the person went from this to this, and then a year later they were engaged.
[40:33] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And it was so many stories like that.
[40:34] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And I had that fear.
[40:36] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And
[40:37] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I even think it was going to go, I think if you're going to have that Robin Thitty storyline, I think you could have talked, we didn't talk about anything.
[40:45] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I think you could talk about what the fear of dating an athlete is.
[40:49] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You know, like to me, the Robin Thitty storyline was a very common, like I heard this a lot in both the church like Rupon and Hillsong.
[40:57] \[SPEAKER_03\]: This idea that like,
[40:59] \[SPEAKER_03\]: modern dating, you know, secular dating is not good because basically you are imitating all of the intimacy that you're supposed to only have in marriage and therefore people are a lot people are like.
[41:16] \[SPEAKER_03\]: They don't have to commit to you because you're giving them everything, a marriage, only a marriage is supposed to have.
[41:23] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And therefore, there's no need for them to marry you, right?
[41:28] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You're having sex with them.
[41:29] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You guys are living together.
[41:30] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You're like,
[41:31] \[SPEAKER_03\]: doing everything a married couple will do, but not married them.
[41:35] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And so like, that's why she was, and that's why the book is telling her to be like, no, I'm not going to have sex with you anymore.
[41:42] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I'm not going to live with you anymore.
[41:44] \[SPEAKER_03\]: We need to be separate and like, you have to court me.
[41:47] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You know, if you want to stay with me.
[41:50] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Um, now.
[41:54] \[SPEAKER_03\]: They've been living this way for so many years.
[41:56] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And she says, like, oh, our own, she says it really quickly in the beginning when she first tells them, like, you know, our own, all on this, like, it was me.
[42:04] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It was like, I pretend it that I was okay with this even though I wasn't.
[42:08] \[SPEAKER_03\]: But now I'm not okay with it.
[42:10] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And now I'm giving you an ultimatum.
[42:12] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And it's like, well, that's not loving.
[42:14] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And it's fine if you're like, Hey, I'm actually not comfortable doing some of these things anymore.
[42:18] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I'm going to start setting boundaries.
[42:20] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Okay, but don't act like this guy is a bad guy because you want to do something now that
[42:28] \[SPEAKER_03\]: you didn't say you need it or want it from this relationship.
[42:32] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And like if you want to even say if you're like all of a sudden you go from zero to a hundred and you're like I actually can't do any of this stuff until we get married.
[42:41] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Okay, set that boundary.
[42:42] \[SPEAKER_03\]: But don't act again, don't act like he's doing something messed up.
[42:46] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And like yell at hit.
[42:47] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Like that part of it, I was just like this is
[42:50] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Gosh, she tried to say, I realized, I think she even tried to say, I know I agreed to something I didn't like, so that's what I mean.
[42:58] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But this is where I'm at now.
[43:00] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So I guess you said that in the beginning.
[43:02] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah.
[43:02] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So I don't understand if you give me that ultimatum, that's what it is.
[43:05] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It's like now everybody's cars are out.
[43:07] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You give them a chance to do a thing.
[43:09] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I think what's hard about it is is
[43:12] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Is that his response was, hey, I'm worried about retiring.
[43:17] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Can I just get through the season and then we can figure things out?
[43:20] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Right.
[43:20] \[SPEAKER_02\]: For me, and I maybe, I don't know if this is a man mindset, but I'm like, to me, that sounded like a true response.
[43:26] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Like, hey, I hear what you're going through.
[43:28] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I am sure this is what you're talking about.
[43:29] \[SPEAKER_05\]: And it may also be a man thing, but yeah.
[43:31] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It could be, but I'm like, I, who I am as a person as a man is changing and will be changing soon, like it will be, but every thing about it, if you're actually like we're all, I just comedians like the moment one of us makes the big thing is like, oh, and you're like, his whole life has been towards this and I feel like it was never, I think I struggle with she didn't care about it at all.
[43:53] \[SPEAKER_02\]: She didn't talk to him.
[43:54] \[SPEAKER_03\]: She didn't help him with it.
[43:55] \[SPEAKER_03\]: She wasn't like, yeah.
[43:58] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It was kind of just like it was just like either marry me or I'm not talking to you anymore.
[44:04] \[SPEAKER_02\]: What?
[44:04] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So I, I struggle with the movie because of that.
[44:07] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And I do understand we live in a world where like, you know, the best thing that I can give you is as a black person.
[44:14] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I am trying my best to be aware of how much I will shade white man or white women when they complain about problems.
[44:23] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Because I'm like, you still get to be white.
[44:26] \[SPEAKER_02\]: We do live in a world where like it is almost easier to shade a man because he's a man and men, you know, you know, we have a sort of kind of power, but watching this movie was tough for me because I'm like I'm looking at these two dudes.
[44:42] \[SPEAKER_02\]: All like Lily later cars on the table in the women they're speaking to just does not they do not address it like it right like in any way shape or form like they don't address it and it's Like that one scene with the basketball player it is passed over so quickly.
[44:56] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yes, like throughout the whole movie met the man is telling you how he's grown how he's trying to do this how he's trying to do that and every single moment is undercut every time he says it and I think until Met the man quits the job
[45:10] \[SPEAKER_02\]: does it like, oh, you have changed.
[45:11] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And even in, even in is question.
[45:14] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And I'm like, I don't know what you like, I don't know how to show nuance and growth if it's okay to bash one, just because of the exists.
[45:24] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Like, I don't know, I struggle with that kind of,
[45:29] \[SPEAKER_02\]: All or nothing with like all men suck, all gen D suck, all millennial suck, you know what I'm saying?
[45:34] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Like this is just a very tough thing.
[45:37] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Well, okay, this is all of this stuff is dealing in like stereotypes and you know, they all get together with these with these.
[45:46] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I mean, those two get their men and those relationships work in the end, and it's because they are committed to marriage and God, you know, that's what they say.
[45:56] \[SPEAKER_03\]: But the problems in between, they don't work, it's like a movie makes it like, okay, and this works out like a movie, but that's my, I think a huge problem with modern relationships is that everybody consumes movies so much, they try to imitate movies, they try to think
[46:14] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Life and their relationship should be like a movie.
[46:17] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You know what I mean?
[46:18] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Like they even like they're giddy at the like the end of this movie Is them literally being giddy and being like like I've seen Rob coms.
[46:25] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You should run like you got to run to him Instead of being practical like and I get it It's a movie it has to be entertaining and yet at the same time This is how people are consuming this is how people get relationship advice right and like
[46:40] \[SPEAKER_03\]: for a movie that wants to give relationship advice to not talk about that, you know, like, I don't know if this person, if those past they're talked about that in his book, he should have, and it should have been a movie.
[46:55] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Like, it should be, it should be talking about like, hey, like,
[46:59] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You know, don't set unrealistic standards for your partner that you yourself could never live up to, cause that's a part of what people do and they look at these movies.
[47:10] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Especially these rom-coms that are geared towards women, they're like, market it to women, you know, and then that's part of the reason of like the men being bad and then like learning their ways and apologizing and then professing their undying love.
[47:25] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I also thought it was crazy by the way that the other character, okay, uh, what was her name?
[47:31] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Uh, uh, uh, any of the the best friend?
[47:35] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah.
[47:37] \[SPEAKER_03\]: the other friend, uh, trees, trees, that I said.
[47:42] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Anyway, any good Zales is character, uh, trees.
[47:46] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Looks like.
[47:47] \[SPEAKER_03\]: So her dating life is a mess because she apparently dates like too many people.
[47:53] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Uh, that this is what she says.
[47:55] \[SPEAKER_03\]: She's like, oh, I date too many people, like the thing that she reads in the book is like, oh, I, she's the, she's the person who's just giving out her chicken nuggets and let everybody touch them or whatever.
[48:04] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And yet the only scene we see with her dating is she's sitting down with a very nice gentleman who says something about marathons and she lies.
[48:19] \[SPEAKER_03\]: and says, I love Marathon's too, she doesn't.
[48:22] \[SPEAKER_03\]: She goes, yeah, 40 miles, 60 miles, whatever.
[48:24] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And this guy is like, oh, this woman's just lying to me right now, I'm gonna pay for my drinks and leave.
[48:29] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And he goes, Sarah now, now was that a nice thing to do?
[48:32] \[SPEAKER_03\]: No, he could have just, we live in a world where people don't like conflict.
[48:38] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And so we have ghosting and something like this of just like leaving, it's not nice.
[48:43] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And yet at the same time, it is a first date.
[48:46] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And the reason he left is because you were just lying.
[48:49] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And we don't address that at all in the movie.
[48:52] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It's never her problem is just that she's dating too many people.
[48:56] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And it's like, how about her problem is she's not being herself or truth or honest with the people she's dating?
[49:04] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Like what?
[49:05] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah.
[49:06] \[SPEAKER_03\]: We didn't see the fact that she's just dating too many people or giving herself over to just anybody.
[49:12] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You know, I do like, I will say this and I agree with this kind of advice.
[49:17] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I do think people should be honest, and this is, this is like, over the Robin Thiti thing too, honest about what they want.
[49:23] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I think in dating at, because in dating at culture, people are not honest about what they want, and women, especially because they're, you know, society kind of teaches them this is what they should be doing of being like,
[49:35] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You need to be a go with the flow check or whatever and so they're like, oh, I'm not looking for anything serious I'm not looking for anything serious, but they are looking for something serious and so you do get in these kind of situations where people are Having sex early Even though they don't really want to and then they expect and then certain expectations come with that and yet all of these things are unwritten rules And so people get upset then people feel like they were taken advantage of even though they actually
[50:01] \[SPEAKER_03\]: didn't say like this is my expectations for if we're going to go this far that this is what I expect from you or whatever any of that stuff.
[50:10] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You know, I think I've said this before, but like one of the things that when I first started to test of that, like, maybe feel like, oh, this is a different type of person was like, she was like, oh, just so you know, like, I'm dating other people right now.
[50:24] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And I was like, oh,
[50:26] \[SPEAKER_03\]: which in my, up until that point, literally no one had ever said that, even though I know other people I had gone against with, we're also dating multiple people.
[50:36] \[SPEAKER_03\]: But it was just like, it just was like, oh, this is somebody who's just like upfront, like not embarrassed about it or whatever, and just like wants to be honest about what's happening and that was like the quality of person that just felt so different than what I was used to.
[50:52] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And even what I, in my self was,
[50:55] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You know, so like I do think that's a good advice like her going hurt that little montage of her being like, hey, this is what I want from the relationship and all the all of the men being like.
[51:07] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Not for me, I'm out.
[51:09] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I was like, this is beautiful.
[51:10] \[SPEAKER_03\]: There was a part that had to be played for comedy, but I was like, oh, I hope people take what is happening here.
[51:19] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It's like a good thing.
[51:19] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It's good that she's saying this is what I want.
[51:22] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And it's good that the men are like great.
[51:23] \[SPEAKER_03\]: If that's what you want, that sounds great for you and it's not what I want.
[51:27] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And so I'm not like, let's not continue this.
[51:29] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Perfect.
[51:30] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You know, and I love that they threw in a polyamorous curfew than you know, they were making fun of them.
[51:35] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I still thought that was cool, too, because it was like, this person was like, hey, I'm all about that.
[51:39] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I'm all about love intentions and blah, blah, blah, blah.
[51:41] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I just do it multiple people.
[51:42] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And she's like, whoa, well, that's not for me.
[51:44] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Great.
[51:45] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You know, like, that part, I thought was like the healthiest part of the film.
[51:51] \[SPEAKER_03\]: But then, that doesn't go anywhere.
[51:53] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I was actually so disappointed that they like,
[51:57] \[SPEAKER_03\]: They they wind up doing this other scene that made no sense like her bringing home the gay assistant to her family and pretending it was a boy friend I was like what is this like we haven't heard anything about her family like this is a random like it'd be different if like we had a phone call with the mom and a mom was like someone was pressuring her or something and it was like it felt like.
[52:19] \[SPEAKER_02\]: even when she gets home and talks to the mom, who by the way, that show mama, um, like, at one point I was like, she said, mom, I was like, is that your mom and your sister?
[52:28] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Like I was very confused for her, I said, great.
[52:31] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Wait, was it the mom or was it the sister?
[52:32] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It was the mom?
[52:33] \[SPEAKER_02\]: That was the mom.
[52:33] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It was the mom.
[52:34] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It was the mom.
[52:35] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It was the mom.
[52:36] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Okay.
[52:37] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Um, all right.
[52:38] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But was it?
[52:39] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Was it to me?
[52:39] \[SPEAKER_05\]: All of this stuff that Y'all had talked about to made it feel like at the end when she named her dog boyfriend that made me go I don't think this is necessarily good right like like it's good that she's like accepting that she's like I don't want to be with anybody right now and I also think it would be perfectly fine for someone to name their pet boyfriend
[53:02] \[SPEAKER_05\]: But given what they showed us on screen, it was like, no, this is sort of implying an obsession with an idea that I don't think she has fully figured out for herself, you know, you know what I mean?
[53:14] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah, where we supposed to set up, we're like, where we supposed to believe that she was actually okay with not dating anybody and she didn't want to date anyone.
[53:25] \[SPEAKER_03\]: or we supposed to think that she was like, I have decided not to date anybody until unless our goals are aligned and they also see this as an intentional dating that is going to lead to marriage.
[53:42] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Yeah, I thought it was the former that she was fine by her self and did not want to date anyone.
[53:50] \[SPEAKER_05\]: But then she also had a pet named Pum,
[53:56] \[SPEAKER_05\]: which again, I don't have a problem with separately, but being gradients that I've now been looking at, makes me think a specific thing about this person.
[54:05] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah, I guess I like, I just, I didn't buy it because I, yeah, she was just somebody who was like talking about, like she kept talking about method men, how attractive he was, and other, but you know, I just, I wasn't buying the fact that she like,
[54:21] \[SPEAKER_05\]: But the only relationship arc I bought the whole movie was Robin Theed and and and and her man.
[54:29] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Yeah.
[54:29] \[SPEAKER_05\]: That was the only one I bought.
[54:30] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Yeah.
[54:31] \[SPEAKER_05\]: The other ones, the everything that I saw made me think something else was going to happen at the end and they were like, actually it's this and what?
[54:40] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Like if she would have found somebody and then and then Kelly Rolden would have been like I actually I am I'm not gonna date anyone.
[54:47] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I'm fine.
[54:49] \[SPEAKER_05\]: That would have made more sense to me with what the movie was Yeah, but instead they showed the other thing, you know Yeah, yeah Yeah, I don't even else have said about it.
[55:02] \[SPEAKER_02\]: We knew how to move it with your hand
[55:06] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah, I mean, if I was the basic beats, it's like, it's so, oh, the other thing that was so freaking annoying and stupid was like, they do this interview, you know, there, there's a, you know, relatively amusing fighting and happening in the booth on the microphone around me,
[55:33] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You know, we don't want to grill this person, this isn't.
[55:38] \[SPEAKER_03\]: you know, whatever, I forgot what he called at 16 minutes or whatever the hell.
[55:43] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And then like, she's like, this shouldn't be a puff piece, which is ironically what the movie is.
[55:51] \[SPEAKER_03\]: But then like, then we like get into like the editing bay and they're like giving the editor notes.
[55:56] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And I literally was like, I'm sorry, how many notes could you possibly be getting this editor
[56:05] \[SPEAKER_03\]: But there was like that much to freaking at it, but also but then of course we get this thing of like I have notes I have a set of notes, and she's like I have a set of notes, and then they're like they're probably contradictory and then later the editors like they were actually complementary They both go together.
[56:24] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I was like stop it bro.
[56:25] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Like it's so funny.
[56:26] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I've been in edits like that.
[56:28] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I've been in I've been in one edit
[56:30] \[SPEAKER_02\]: where there's a very famous couple who own, I won't say that name, cause I don't want them to be mad at me, but it's exactly who you're talking about.
[56:37] \[SPEAKER_02\]: There's a very famous couple.
[56:39] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And like the husband comes in, he gives notes.
[56:44] \[SPEAKER_02\]: he leaves his wife comes in and his wife has like the opposite notes and her notes are drastically better and then we're sitting in the edit and at date and she leaves in the net and I go well who do we listen to because you're at that point where like that's what does happen.
[56:59] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I think the hardest part for me is like when they started liking each other
[57:03] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And now to just open this learning and just all behind the edit.
[57:07] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I was like, first of this is the HR, I like this.
[57:09] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah.
[57:10] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And then this is my thing.
[57:11] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Also like why like why in that moment that they saw all of a sudden, she, why did she finally just drop her guard?
[57:17] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It didn't make any sense.
[57:17] \[SPEAKER_03\]: There was nothing happening in that moment that made, it just was like the movie needed it to happen then.
[57:22] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, and that's the point when they get to the end and they have that big blow up.
[57:25] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I'm like, there's been 30 to 40 minutes of you guys actually liking each other.
[57:30] \[SPEAKER_02\]: We are seeing it.
[57:31] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Like, we have seen it.
[57:33] \[SPEAKER_02\]: If this was like a courtship, the courting has happened.
[57:37] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You know what I mean?
[57:37] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So to me, it's like you knew not you knew, but I'm like, Y'all are in it.
[57:42] \[SPEAKER_02\]: The moment this man leans to you and then you lean the rest.
[57:45] \[SPEAKER_02\]: We'll Smith taught me in a hitch.
[57:48] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You go 90, she comes 10 and when you wash that scene, methamen lazin' and then she comes right face to face and I'm like, bro, what, what do we,
[58:01] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Look at notting hell, man.
[58:03] \[SPEAKER_02\]: People who people not know what, look at notting hell.
[58:05] \[SPEAKER_02\]: All right, which is one, to me, a Ramcom that does it perfectly.
[58:10] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It just look at notting hell.
[58:12] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It's funny, but it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's not, not, not everybody can be, not everybody can be the best one of the best.
[58:19] \[SPEAKER_02\]: What does, oh, give me, give me, give me, give me, like, like, give me, give me brown sugar.
[58:26] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Brown with sugar I think plays into like people like say people you're you were just your time on not in hell people are gonna say brown sugar
[58:36] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It's one of the best rom stuff like that's that's my plan like this is well because I feel like brown sugar's a better Com because brown sugar does have funny moments, but there's stakes and people play it real like his wife She's on him.
[58:50] \[SPEAKER_02\]: What do we celebrate tonight?
[58:51] \[SPEAKER_02\]: My divorce and it's so not doesn't know she doesn't know So that was she's in the awkward spot and we're playing things real even
[59:00] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Anyway, so yeah, but they, you know, everybody lines up together, she also gets him frisk by like the TSA, which was dangerous and crazy.
[59:15] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I know, that happened to me in November, but that happened to me and that's what I got first at the airport.
[59:22] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I was mad that I was like, that is funny.
[59:25] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I don't like that because it's like she essentially got him assaulted, you know, like, for no like it, but I was like, how else is she going to get him up?
[59:38] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You could have just said, hey, he literally was right there.
[59:42] \[SPEAKER_03\]: She could have just stopped it and he would have been like, oh, yeah, I can just come here.
[59:48] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Oh, I'll just jump under this little rope.
[59:50] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I'll step on a line and I'll just step on a line and come right and he had to even gone through the security.
[59:55] \[SPEAKER_05\]: No, so you're just in the line.
[59:58] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Hey, hey.
[1:00:01] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Text them.
[1:00:01] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I'm going to hedge it.
[1:00:02] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I love it that the way that they got, they got over the texic stuff is just them being like, no, you got to follow the rock.
[1:00:10] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You got to follow the rock.
[1:00:11] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I'm true.
[1:00:11] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You can't just text them.
[1:00:14] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I was like, okay, geez, I thought this movie was painfully unfunny at times.
[1:00:21] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Painfully unfunny.
[1:00:22] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I really, I was just like, it's just, guys, this movie was only an hour 32.
[1:00:28] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And I had an hour I had a stop because I was like, I need a break.
[1:00:32] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I need a break.
[1:00:33] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I stopped at 105.
[1:00:34] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I stopped at 105.
[1:00:35] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I'm not like, how much is love?
[1:00:38] \[SPEAKER_05\]: for the thing that you're rushing about how everything was played so big or like played for jokes, it is a shame that it was so not funny for them to all be kind of delivering it like it's, you know, the big bank theory, but without the, without the laugh.
[1:00:53] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Can I say, and I'm sorry because if this person was listening to this podcast, they certainly stop.
[1:00:59] \[SPEAKER_03\]: They certainly stopped by now, but Ryan Swain, who played the assistant, I thought he was so good.
[1:01:08] \[SPEAKER_03\]: He was so good.
[1:01:09] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I thought he was so funny.
[1:01:10] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And he was the only person who like every time he came up on screen, I was like happy to see him.
[1:01:16] \[SPEAKER_05\]: He was great.
[1:01:17] \[SPEAKER_05\]: a genuinely when it started because I have already mentioned that was part when it started and he's speaking his lines, I was like, this is so authentic and real and funny and like and you just believe everything he said and then the end of the assistance, the assistance thing that was one of the audition scenes that crashed.
[1:01:35] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It was perfect, and also like he did a thing like them like doing the little like movements together like all that other stuff that was in the movie I thought was so corny, but like when he did it with Kelly I was like this is really fun like I believed it I believed it I thought like it was fun like all of that so he really knocked it out of a park So hopefully we'll move this early
[1:02:03] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Well, Kelly, where do you think this is the clip?
[1:02:06] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah, just just use this as a clip.
[1:02:08] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Ryan was freaking, he was great as Roland crushed it.
[1:02:12] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah, he'd be great.
[1:02:15] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Anyway, I got another say.
[1:02:17] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Thank God.
[1:02:19] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I had very little to say, period, so here we are.
[1:02:21] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I know, it's time for the cause.
[1:02:23] \[SPEAKER_03\]: We're rating review films not based on how much we liked it.
[1:02:27] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It's whether or not it helps the cause of more leading black actors in Hollywood.
[1:02:32] \[SPEAKER_03\]: So if it fully helps the cause, we give it a back fist.
[1:02:37] \[SPEAKER_03\]: If it's someone helps the cause, we give it a hug.
[1:02:39] \[SPEAKER_03\]: If it doesn't help the cause at all, we don't give it anything.
[1:02:42] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Oh man.
[1:02:44] \[SPEAKER_03\]: This is the integrity of the cause rating.
[1:02:50] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Ryan tomatoes.
[1:02:51] \[SPEAKER_03\]: This isn't Ryan tomatoes.
[1:02:53] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Do you want to post it a little rotten score?
[1:02:55] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You go on arties.
[1:02:56] \[SPEAKER_02\]: That's so funny.
[1:02:57] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I literally had that same feeling of like, ah, she realized at the same time.
[1:03:07] \[SPEAKER_00\]: All right.
[1:03:08] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Oh, three.
[1:03:10] \[SPEAKER_00\]: One, two, three.
[1:03:30] \[SPEAKER_05\]: That's all I got.
[1:03:31] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I almost gave it a poem to, but I wasn't going to give it nothing, but I almost gave it a poem to the ratings are low, but I think Robin Phoedie have an apart that large in a film.
[1:03:45] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Plus, you know, the guy we were just talking about, who I haven't seen anything, I don't have as I am true.
[1:03:49] \[SPEAKER_05\]: He might be doing other stuff.
[1:03:51] \[SPEAKER_05\]: But I think that specifically, that alone is pretty significant, and then you know, it obviously has Kelly and Matthew men in the lead and Matthew men doesn't lead a lot of movies like that.
[1:04:04] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I mean, he's in a ton of movies and he's been acting forever.
[1:04:08] \[SPEAKER_05\]: He doesn't like.
[1:04:09] \[SPEAKER_05\]: You know, it's not like and method man or method man is top build a ton either.
[1:04:13] \[SPEAKER_05\]: So, you know, so for the for the two of them, I think that's great to and I think, you know, for every issue that we had with the subject matter of the like what the lessons of the book were, I think that like these types of adaptations and things are.
[1:04:32] \[SPEAKER_05\]: It's like doing more stuff like that will also further build, we'll further build more black actors in Hollywood and build the sort of the infrastructure necessary for, you know, because this person getting one movie made based off of their book means they could make more movies based off the book which could which could mean more more black actors
[1:04:55] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Okay.
[1:04:56] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It's three.
[1:04:57] \[SPEAKER_03\]: That's why I gave this movie that I truly do not like.
[1:05:01] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I think it's really, really bad on like on a multitude of levels.
[1:05:06] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Uh, skits a black fist because, yeah, like, I mean, it's, it's wild Kelly Rowan is having a reticence for.
[1:05:14] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah.
[1:05:15] \[SPEAKER_03\]: short lived acting career.
[1:05:17] \[SPEAKER_03\]: But now all of a sudden I'm just like she might be leading more things.
[1:05:21] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You got met that man and then I do think people watch this like even if they didn't love it.
[1:05:27] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And I think it like a lot like the means other black actors can get leads and movies like I don't know sometimes movies don't need to be good.
[1:05:39] \[SPEAKER_03\]: anyway.
[1:05:40] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Thank you guys so much for listening.

[1:06:12] \[SPEAKER_03\]: There's a lot there to listen to Yeah, like we just reviewed goat the new animated film Yeah, is number one is it number one this week?
[1:06:21] \[SPEAKER_03\]: No, it was, oh, this week.
[1:06:24] \[SPEAKER_03\]: This weekend.
[1:06:24] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Oh, interesting.
[1:06:25] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I don't know.
[1:06:26] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Did we're throwing heights drop?
[1:06:27] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah, because it was number two last week and it's over.
[1:06:33] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You're right.
[1:06:33] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It's number one.
[1:06:34] \[SPEAKER_03\]: If you don't want to leave it, number one.
[1:06:37] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, number one.
[1:06:38] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, should it cast a black.
[1:06:39] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Which we did say this because animated films use 10 to have a lower drop.
[1:06:47] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And yeah, we're the right side of 56% drop and go had a 37% drop.
[1:06:51] \[SPEAKER_03\]: So it is now number one at the 8 million.
[1:06:54] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I can only imagine two, number three.
[1:06:57] \[SPEAKER_03\]: That's a Christian movie.
[1:06:59] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Hey, I'm only imagined.
[1:07:01] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Let's go.
[1:07:01] \[SPEAKER_05\]: This is this, is this Christ's resurrection?
[1:07:05] \[SPEAKER_03\]: This is not, but this is a story.
[1:07:06] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I mean, we're in, we're in, we're in Lent, right?
[1:07:09] \[SPEAKER_03\]: We're in Lent.
[1:07:10] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah, we're in Lent.
[1:07:11] \[SPEAKER_05\]: This might very well be the resurrection.

[1:08:37] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Why is it date?
[1:08:37] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And I think you said 17th to me.
[1:08:40] \[SPEAKER_02\]: No, it is another one.
[1:08:41] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You tell my son and I am, yeah, I am doing bad.
[1:08:45] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Okay, so myself and Carl Foreman are doing a show, which is basically like kind of stand-ups versus character actors.
[1:08:54] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It's called the switch up.
[1:08:55] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Our first show is going to be at the hit theater.
[1:08:59] \[SPEAKER_02\]: On Saturday March 9th at 9, just got the link so I'll put that up in my bio with that.
[1:09:07] \[SPEAKER_02\]: If you're in LA, March 9th hit theater.
[1:09:10] \[SPEAKER_02\]: We got some dope standup, some dope character actors, and it's going to be super fun.

[1:09:17] \[SPEAKER_02\]: If you're in New York or March 17th at 9 p.m., I am doing the JFail new faces showcase in Midtown.
[1:09:27] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You can go on the New York comedy club to get tickets.
[1:09:30] \[SPEAKER_02\]: That is the house.
[1:09:31] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Please, it is literally the house.
[1:09:34] \[SPEAKER_02\]: hours before I turn 40 so I probably will be on stage when I'm 40 and after that I will be extremely lit so come have a good time because I can tell you this right now no matter what I will.
[1:09:50] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And those are the the shows I got mapped out.
[1:09:52] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Oh, also there's an open mic.
[1:09:54] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I am a hosting in Los Angeles on March 11th at who goes there.
[1:10:01] \[SPEAKER_02\]: That's an easy stand up.
[1:10:03] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You can do stand up.
[1:10:05] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You can do spoken words.
[1:10:06] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You can do music.
[1:10:07] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You can do characters.
[1:10:08] \[SPEAKER_02\]: We had a freaking magician in there.
[1:10:11] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You can do whatever you can five minutes baby.
[1:10:14] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So come do your act, test some stuff out, have fun, that's all I got.
[1:10:21] \[SPEAKER_05\]: All right, that's it, right, that's everything.
[1:10:23] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, that's it.
[1:10:24] \[SPEAKER_02\]: No, no, sorry, y'all.
[1:10:25] \[SPEAKER_02\]: That was fun.
[1:10:26] \[SPEAKER_02\]: See y'all later.
[1:10:27] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Please.
