Telecom networks increasingly rely on highly accurate time distribution to support mobile fronthaul, critical infrastructure synchronization, and emerging 5G/6G use cases. To address these needs, telecom standards define PTP High Accuracy Links, opening the door for sub‑nanosecond timing techniques traditionally associated with research and fintech environments. This presentation discusses the applicability of White Rabbit PTP technology in telecom networks, in the context of ITU‑T G.8275 timing architectures—including cnPRTC deployment scenarios, and ITU‑T G.8271.1 PTP High Accuracy Time Transfer. In particular, the talk explores the observation that PTP High Accuracy Links, as defined by telecom standards, may in practice correspond to White Rabbit links. The session examines how White Rabbit syntonization, synchronization and calibration align with telecom timing requirements. A dedicated focus is placed on calibration challenges, especially when White Rabbit is deployed over existing telecom fiber infrastructure and installed equipment, rather than greenfield networks. The presentation discusses the possibility and limitations of upgrading the existing PTP install base to support White Rabbit PTP. Practical deployment considerations and interoperability aspects between traditional telecom PTP profiles and White Rabbit are highlighted. The goal is to provide a realistic, standards‑aware view on how White Rabbit can be positioned as a high‑accuracy timing technology applicable to telecom transport networks, highlighting both its potential benefits and the practical considerations associated with deployment on existing infrastructure.
