Fusion for Energy (F4E) and the ITER Organization (IO) are jointly strengthening their integrated approach to Risk and Opportunity Management (R&OM) in support of ITER project execution. In this presentation, delivered at the CERN Accelerate Project Management Workshop (26–28 January 2026), F4E and IO will outline how a shared culture, aligned methodologies, and coordinated resources are enabling a more coherent and effective management of project Risks and Opportunities across organizational boundaries. The first part of the contribution will describe the harmonized R&OM framework developed for the ITER Project. In particular for F4E and IO, this includes the convergence of processes, terminology, and tools; initiatives to reinforce a common culture of risk awareness; and the mechanisms used to ensure engagement from technical, managerial, and leadership levels. Emphasis will be placed on the practical steps taken to align the two organizations'practices—ranging from training and communication to the co-development of methods and data structures that support consistent identification, evaluation, and treatment of risks and opportunities. The second part will focus on the implementation of an integrated risk management approach. Key achievements and ongoing work will be presented, including the cleaning and consolidation of the Project Risk and Opportunity Register (PROR), joint review and assessment of major risks, and the establishment of the R&OM Board (ROMB) as a central governance body to steer decision-making and monitoring. The contribution will further illustrate how joint assessments conducted by integrated F4E-IO teams are improving the quality, transparency, and timeliness of risk information, ultimately enhancing the project's ability to anticipate challenges and exploit opportunities. By presenting concrete actions, lessons learned, and early outcomes, the session aims to share with the project management community how F4E and IO are advancing toward…
