By reading and also working through the exercises the student in their third or fourth year of a physics major will learn of the broad outlines of our modern conception of the cosmos. Subjects covered include space curvature, space expansion, redshifts, cosmological distance measures, Newtonian gravitational dynamics in an expanding universe, the contents of the cosmos including dark matter and dark energy, and observable relics of the hot and dense universe of 14 billion years ago.
