De geringe lengte van de kling wijst erop dat dit een degen voor een jongeman of kind is. Ook de beugels voor de vingers zijn voor een volwassen man veel te klein. De term sier-degen is wat misleidend: een steek van een wapen als dit kon wel degelijk dodelijk zijn.
