The Valeta tunnel was part of the local railway Triest – Parenzo (Italian Parenzana, Slovene / Croatian Porečanka, German also Parenzaner Bahn). Rail operations opened in 1902 and were already shut down in 1935. The systems had a track width of 760mm (Bosnaspur).
