Beauchamp Falls in Great Otway National Park, Beech Forest, Victoria, Australia Efforts to protect Great Otway National Park began in the early 1900s, when the first areas of lush rainforest and coastal landscapes were placed under protection. In 1967, the park was officially established as Great Otway National Park to preserve its diverse ecosystems, including dense eucalyptus forests, waterfalls, and coastal areas. In the following decades, the park’s area was significantly expanded through the merger of several protected areas. The park is also significant to Aboriginal culture, whose people have lived in the region for thousands of years and whose traditions and connection to the land are honored and protected within the park.
