Altar of the Heiliggrabkapelle, Monastery Endowment of the Holy Grave, Heiligengrabe, Brandenburg, Germany The Holy Sepulchre Chapel belongs to the Cistercian convent, which was founded in 1287. As early as the 14th century, a “Holy Sepulchre” is mentioned at this location, which gave rise to the name Heiligengrabe (Holy Sepulchre). The present late Gothic chapel was consecrated in 1512 and built around 1520 on the site of earlier, more modest predecessor buildings. The building is a four-bay, star-vaulted hall structure made of brick with striking stepped gables. It is considered a masterpiece of North German brick Gothic architecture.
