Cottbus-Nord, a former lignite mine in the Lausitz region, operated by Vattenfall Europe Mining AG. Most of the visible area is located in the city of Cottbus; a smaller part touches the Spree-Neisse district. Coal was produced from 1981 until December 23, 2015. After production ended the mining area was rehabilitated. In addition to smaller areas for forestry, a large part of the open pit mine was flooded. With the future Cottbus Baltic it will be the largest lake in the Lusatian days Bause area.
