Liudgerhaus (left), Diözesanbibliothek (right), Überwasserkirche (background) in Münster, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany The Liudgerhaus in Münster is the central education and conference center of the Diocese of Münster. It was built in the first half of the 20th century and named after Saint Liudger, the first bishop of Münster († 809). To this day, the building serves as a place for church education, training, and meetings. The Liudgerhaus is closely linked to the Diocesan Library of Münster, one of Germany’s most important specialized theological libraries. Its origins date back to the time of the diocese; it preserves an extensive collection of theological literature, historical prints, and church documents. Parts of the facilities were damaged during World War II, but were later rebuilt and modernized. Today, the building complex combines tradition with contemporary educational work. It is an important place for ecclesiastical scholarship, pastoral training, and cultural remembrance in the diocese of Münster.
